"This is Joanna Kessler of EPS channel 14, Cardinal News. I'm here live at Cyvils, Perimeter Defense, where Directress N. Adrianna Cain, leader of the Grand Unified Federation of Perimeter Defense, is about to make a speech concerning recent events, both local and international. As we all know, today marks the 25th year since Andersen Lederman died in Questers (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=534546), and through her sacrifice gave the world a true, honest glimpse at the true effects and events within a warzone, and more importantly a civil homefront. A fresh wound within our society also is the explosion at the AERF plant near New Gallante. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=538889) With a death toll now pegged at 420,000 and final property damage established at $15 billion, this painful incident remains a powerful testament to the dangers of the new, almost mystical technologies of mankind.

These are among the possible topics that may be covered in Directress Cain's speech - here she comes now. This has been Joanna Kessler, reporting for Cardinal News. We'll be giving a live feed now to cover the Directress's speech.

*Directress steps up to podium, looks left, looks right* "I woke up this morning, finding myself unable to parse the speech that I had written, and for which I had been preparing for the past week. This speech was to cover a sort of State of the Nation Address, dictated in the PD constitution as necessary for an annual timeframe. It was generated based on the principles of the late ruler Kadath Purion of the Lassitrian nation, of which Perimeter Defense used to be a constituent.

*Directress pauses for a moment* "Perimeter Defense, however, is no longer part of Lassiter. I am not Purion, I do not share his values, and I am not obliged to fulfill a legacy of an older nation that did nothing to shape our newer - in fact, Perimeter Defense, as we recall it, was created specifically as a sort of iconoclasm against Lassitrian leadership; the figurative 'destruction' of the 'icons' of Lassiter, in this case core ideals and ideologies, represented the emergence of our own new paradigm. Additionally, we already have a SONA scheduled sometime in the near future, and I did not see it necessary to introduce one that would simply be followed by an updated other.

"Finally, the contents of this speech did not satisfy me. I was to talk about such things as the growing threat of hostile Bigtopia to the west, and the matter of Midlonian affairs growing in possible opposition to our own operations. Alas, these two topics - and the various others that should have followed - all came to be the negative impacts of international movements. *Directress shakes her head* We have enough local tragedies as it is. One of which is sufficient to last us the next five or so years, I should say.

"Which brings me back to where it all should matter most - back home. I won't speak entirely of tragedies, but variably of analogous testimony to our resilience as a nation, of the people, the very individuals who comprise the foundation of our sovereignty and glory, and perhaps even a spattering or two of the topics that had been marked for deletion. Importantly, though, integrated into each idea will be, again, the very heart of it all - Perimeter Defense herself.

"I don't think I've ever been a good extemporaneous speaker. But I speak from the heart, and using the knowledge of my soul, when I say that I am proud of this nation, this collective entity of unified spirits that will stand, united or divided, but never distraught and defeated. You, Perimeter Defense who have shown love of neighbor beyond the call of duty, when the tragedy of AERF occurred and relief and even personal help came pouring down the support funnel, you, Perimeter Defense whose education and culturing have output such minds and hearts as Andie Lederman and James Gardner Scott, you, Perimeter Defense who have stood by your nation in her decisions as a whole, who have been loyal and lifted her up to otherwise unattainable heights by means of your undying support regardless of questionability - Perimeter Defense, I salute you! I am the Directress of Perimeter Defense; that is what they call me. But what do I direct if not the flow of strength and passion that is supplied by you?

"I am not an extension of you, the people. No; nothing as impersonal as a separate adjunct. You are the will, and I am the hand that moves in accordance with that will. And it is good will that I follow."
