The Exploratory Scout Service is a special arm of the government in the Commonalitarianism. It offers people a second chance, a new body and training for the very old if they spend five years exploring dangerous alien territory.

The Ecotechnics Institute is a special institution, it studies the relationship between ecology and industry. Specifically it does paraterraforming, designs life support systems, space farms, cleans up industrial accidents, and develops clean technology.

Recently the Ecotechnics Institute and the Exploratory Service have joined together to do biological surveys of alien worlds, mapping out the ecology of these worlds as a free service to whoever asks.

Realizing the inherent danger in these operations, they will not hold you responsible for death of any scout member by alien life form.

OOC: Basically we are looking for descriptions of the ecology of alien worlds from you in your civilization. We are searching for useful biologicals which we will share with the host civilization. Feel free to describe how the scout service people die or face danger as they survey your world. They are danger puppets.

Olaf Cruonian, "We will send a scout team to Waste of Space 4, however because it is at extragalactic distances it may take some time to get there."

Naomi Ohyes, "We are getting an extragalactic signal sir?"

Ralph Cruon, "What? an extragalactic signal, so there is life in other galaxies? We must inform the scout service about this?"

At the offices of Olaf Cruonian, Assistant Director "We will prepare our experimental transwarp ship, it combines a hyperspace drive with warp speeds in hyperspace. Still, travelling to another galaxy is a daunting task. Prepare the cold sleep pods, it will still take six months for the trip."

At the scout service, bring out the XZ-01 experimental scout craft, are the scouts ready. Ahmed Ohyes, "Yes, sir they have been pumped full of hiberzine and placed in cold storage tubes. They will awake at their destination."

"All checks out with 007 the ships resident AI, right."

007, the resident AI, "I wish I could call you Miss Moneypenny, Ahmed. Well, we're off to danger and excitement in a new galaxy. Warp bubble check, cryogenically cooled antimatter power chamber check, shields check, life support systems, oh well why am I listing everything, it all works."

ah, ok. Don't survey my planet then;)

After six months, a strange ship appears over Waste of Space 4. The AI, 007, hails you, "This is 007, reporting as requested kind sophonts. We are the scout service ready for survey. Our crew is going through the wake up cycle."

The ship looks a bit battered after six months in hyperspace. It is not a particular large ship about the size of a Corvette. Various dishes and antennae are scanning the planet below. There is a picture of a large tortoise on a flag on the right side of the ship.

The crew is waking up from cold sleep. Apparently something went wrong with one of the sleep training programs, one of the crew believes he just came back from Barsoom, and is ready for more adventure on the planet below.
