History
With the eruption of war in 1964, the nations of Greece and Macedonia soon became locked in a power struggle. When the government of Greece was overthrown in a coup towards the end of the fiscal year, Macedonia declared victory of the Greek intruders.
After the new government began to reform the military arm, they once again invaded Macedonia, leaving a bloody trail of destruction behind them. The war was brutal for both countries, and while Bulgaria first remained neutral, they eventually sided with Greece as the war dragged on. With enemies surrounding them, Macedonia eventually accepted Greek domination with the signing of the Treaty of Athens in November of 1964.
Western Turkey, Istanbul to be correct, was badly bombed during the beginning of the third world war. Decimated to mere cinders, the city never fully recovered, and this left Turkey on the brink of starvation, and with their government in shambles. With the Macedonian War still on their minds, the Greek Senate took this to their advantage, invading Western Turkey and establishing their rule there as well.
Bulgaria, afraid of Greece's rising power, attempted to assasinate the Greek leaders, which was successful. Once again, with Greece in turmoil, the Bulgarians marched into the peninsula and burned Athens. After a month, the remaining Greek political figures met in the remains of classical ruins, near the city of Corinth.
It was there they established the Corinthian Protocol, which created the socialist Corinthian Coalition. While mainly just a figurehead for the recreated Greek nation, it served mainly as a center of progressiveness. In a land ripe with such wars, the concept of socialism attracted many followers, and soon, the Greek people accepted the protocol. Macedonia and Western Turkey were the next signees, with Bulgaria accepting it at the beginning of 1965.
