1st IBIS Committee Meeting

Pinguinum
30-09-2007, 21:27
For the attention of: Alfegos, Damirez and Kirav.

*Committee members were each invited to attend the first meeting of IBIS inside the Culture Center of Avie.
There the men stood waiting...

2 minutes later...

The doors of the chamber opened and outstepped one Mr Kieth Wetfoot smiling to all. With an out-stretched hand, he greeted the four the representatives of Damirez (Vice-President), Kirav (Secretary) and Alfegos (Treasurer).*

Welcome Gentlemen, to the committee room. Please take a seat.

First item today is to brainstorm a constitution and policies for the society. We already have a rough idea of what this society should be about.
Any ideas...?

Of course, the nations of the committee were busy men and didn't have much time for international issues beucase most of them were trying to sort out their own environmental crises.

The Kiravian representative, Odin Brownforest, began making notes rapidly on a piece of carbon paper.

The Alfegos rep. Elli Ilis, wearing a bright purple stola, shuffled her notes and looked at the finance sheets.

"Currently, we have quite a bit of money at our disposal. I think that we should start with a crisis that has occured recently: the suspected dumping of nuclear waste by Kroando.

We have already had washed up nuclear waste containers on the Los'vi'exa weather and communications station, on the far northwest of Alfegos, about 400 miles from the nearest Nova nation."

*Keith Wetfoot smiled and poured a glass of water before passing it to his secretary and noted how important Kirav's job is going to be.*

You are going to be in control of organising society events and will act as the spokeperson.

I trust that you will endeavor to find more members to join.

We need a constitution.

It's good to see our budget is in line. I'm sure you Alfegos will do a remarkable job. As it's the first meeting, I haven't much to talk about. It's a rather drafting stage at present.

" We have looked at the funds, and have worked out our spending power: we have at least $1 million dollars, that will allow us to pay for expenses in all of our headquarters in every country for the next year, and for about 2 large conventions.

We also need to work out the funding we will receive from other IBIS members: so far, only my nation has stated the amount of money it is sending us: 1 million dollars in total.

We need that sorted before we can work out what we can afford for this year."

Our governemnt appears to wasting money so I will get the government (who is concerned with environmnetal issues) to fund this.

I'm not sure of the exact amount. I will check the figures.

Kirav, how about you. We shall need to decide on membership fees. The IBIS website is only a guide at present. It can be easily changed.

Brownforest looked up from his notes, "It depends on what we plan to be doing. Are we going to simply be a scientific forum, or will we begin ornithological expeditions and rehabilitating injured endangered avians? THe former would require little money to operate, while the latter would require considerable sums. As for a constitution, I move that it should contain a clause requiring member nations to put more funding into bird conservation and the like."

Well, We may indeed need to conduct such scientific studies but for the moment, I suggest that the society concentrates on creating working environments for the safe habitat and for the rescue of birds in danger. We shall need to define a set of rules. Each individual nation needs to create an poortunity to create educational experiences for their general public in the form of specialist conventions and bird-related events.

Odin, I trust that you will help me with engaging the interest of more nations or individuals so that they soon join.

I agree with you on your idea about the constitution, I shall let you discuss the details of that Odin.

Elli, we shall need to talk about Membership fees.
The founding members shall not need to contribute anything for the first term.

Keep me posted on the status of membership please Odin.

Don't forget to mention the website. That should be an important tool for members.
And with that, I thereby end this meeting until December.
