A Few questions about Future Tech Role Playing (OOC Thread)

Ok I have a few questions for all you Future tech players out there.
1) What do you do about population? Do you use your nation states pop? This would make no sense since most FT players that I've seen claim more than one planet. So how do you determine your population?
2) Is there a certain number of starships you can have?
3) What kind of starships can you have? Can you make your own?
4) How do you know how much money you have in FT? Is it you NS GDP?
5)Hows this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=539538) look.
This is all I have for now. As I think of more I'll post them. Feel free to ask any questions of your own in this thread.

Population is equal to the number on your NationStates page. Boosting it is frowned upon by a decent chunk of the community. As for claiming more than one planet, there's no rule stating that each and every one has to have seven billion people. After all, up until the 19th century, the world's population could be measured in the millions. Out of my five (populated) worlds, four have roughly a billion each and one has two billion.
Some people, however, do engage in population wank. I'll still RP with them (usually, terms and conditions apply ;) ), but I generally invoke the Anime Ninja Rule (see below) when I get involved.
2) Is there a certain number of starships you can have?
There's no universal rule, but a good rule of thumb is 1000 ships per billion pop. Using more or less ships in your entire fleet essentially allows you to tweak how powerful they'll be viewed as. The anime ninja rule at work, pretty much: The more ninjas there are on screen, the easier they are to kill.
3) What kind of starships can you have? Can you make your own?
Anything you want. There's people out there using SW stuff, Star Trek stuff, 40K stuff, Cultureverse stuff, BSG stuff (old and new), Dr. Who stuff.... The list goes on. A good chunk of the population (IE, me) makes their own unique ships that better fit their nation.
4) How do you know how much money you have in FT? Is it you NS GDP?
Money's not too important in a post-scarcity economy that a lot of FT nations can feasibly possess, but that would be a good point to begin with.

Hmmm this will be tricky since I only have 36 million pop. Guess I'll have to stick to a more character based rp until my population grows. I have a few Ideas though. Thanks a million!!!!!!
Generally, it's ALWAYS a good idea to stay away from wars until your pop is up, no matter the tech level. ;) Oddly enough, I've still managed to avoid violence in MT... Must fix that...
Right now, I'd personally suggest sticking to one solar system at the moment. Keeps things from becoming horribly spread out, and leads to interesting colonization RPs in the future.

Hows this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=539538) look.
This is going to be more a character based RP. Reclaiming my home world when my pop is up. It also gives m something to do until then. Any comments on it?

Hmmm...Looks good. That is actually pretty good idea to wait for your pop to go up and then when you reach a certain level, reclaim your homeworld. Hell I join in any RP you wish to do
PS Hey Otagia! Any news on the Biovore model?
Looks pretty good, although rather unfactbookish. :D Reads a rather lot like a screenplay, what with the names of characters in italics. Almost expect to see the words "enter stage left"...
Not that that's a bad thing. Some of my favorite books happen to be in screenplay form (Storm of the Century).

No clue. I might be on the team over at the Tyranid mod, but it doesn't really give me much insight into what Kavey is doing...

Statistics on your FT nation are more or less up to you. The NS system was designed around nations on a planet and thus is not suitable for use in an FT RP environment.

Well if you wish, I will create a race just for this RP (my other race isnt exactly a good race hehe) and we can do an RP where pirates of my race attack the prison ship and steal her for money and see where it goes from there.

O well its all good. I just can't wait to see the Carnifex :)

haha, sry, I already have some plans for her. I have another section for that story board, introducing my 2 other main characters, then I'm going to start a closed story RP to tell the rest of the story. Thanks anyways.

I (used to) use my current popultion, but there's no limit to the amount of planets you have technically, as long as you RP them well
2) Is there a certain number of starships you can have?
Depends on population in your military
3) What kind of starships can you have? Can you make your own?
Any. FT has no real bounds
4) How do you know how much money you have in FT? Is it you NS GDP?
Gah, yesish
any help?
