Expanding the Union (OOC FT Recruitment thread)

Okay, I recently 'signed up' for an RP with certain amongst the FT community involving the fall of someone's empire and the creation of a few new states. It looked like it was gonna be pretty cool, but then it went and fell through and I'm left with not a lot to do.

I was once an FTer of dubious skill but plenty of enthusiasm, but I left NS and came back a few months later to join a group of MTers called AMW. At any rate, I've gotten pretty used to good, quality RP with intelligent people, and I really enjoy it. So I'd ask that if you decide to join this RP, you be prepared to read long posts and write with quality. I know you're out there, so let's do this thing.

I'm open to whatever kind of scenario you want, so long as it gives me the opportunity to expand my small space nation (I'm starting off with a planet or two) into something a little grander. A nice turf-war, if you will. So suggest something, I'll RP it!

I've got three requirements (or perhaps requests) regarding RPing details, and here they are:
1) That we use some variant of the Alderson Drive, which requires us to hop from system to neighbouring system rather than across all space and time. A corollary to this is that we respect the rules of physics just a little bit. I won't demand that we use hard-SF, but I'd prefer to stay away from outright magic, truly absurd weapons (plasma guns, for example!) and all things WH40k. Now, I'm willing to be flexible, but I'd still like some realism, thanks.

2) That we not have shields. Shields are silly. Let's not use them.

3) No star wars or WH40k, if it can be helped. They've been done to death!

I'm willing to negotiate here on anything, but those are my big points. If you have a major objection (and are a good RPer/present your objection intelligently) I'll be perfectly willing to work with you. I just want to have some fun, preferably without tearing my eyes out at seeing absurd wankery.

I'd also like to keep this small, one or two other people. Something quick and fun that we can sink our teeth into, but not eat up all of our time or get crazy out of control. I'm a senior in high school, which means college apps, physics class and Life In General, so I don't really have time coming out of my ears. For all you employed-people, it's probably worse.

EDIT: Here's the quick-and-dirty factbook that I made for the previous RP.

It's not a hard and fast rule, I'm just stating a preference. But it doesn't look like much is happening here anyway, so...

Humm. Some sort of colonisation thing might be fun. Though I am of course very (and yet very-not) 40K.

I'd be willing to play along, though I'm quite rusty with freeform RP. If you could give me a few days to build up a planet and background for it, I'd be willing to join in.

If you want, since my nations (I'll be using this and my puppet) are so small, we could run a small first contact with you expanding into my system possibly.

I know this is fairly old (well, under a week old, but still), but I'm also interested. The Fenarine Empire (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=540106) has just collapsed (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=13112856), which has led to a fair bit of chaos. There are a few habitable worlds on the edge of what was formerly Fenarine space that have gone largely uncolonised, and any war with one of the Fenarine Houses would be exactly that - a smallish war confined to one or two Houses.

And considering some of the Houses are diehard merchants, they might be willing to sell off the rights to an outlying world or two in return for you pledging your military support, or perhaps offering them lucrative trading contracts.

Oh, and..

(1) At present, my drives can only be activated a certain distance outsystem (depending on the size of the sun and the size of the ship, and, naturally, its engines), and require a gravity well of significant size to stop. Couple this with the fact that it's a fairly inaccurate drive, which makes bypassing systems a risky affair at best, and a suicidal one at worst, and it fairly-well duplicates the effects of the Alderson Drive.

(2) Yup. Shields = teh noez. Mainly because I'm trying to instill a certain sense of vulnerability in my nation which implies the rather fragile political balance is upheld only by the fact that unless one side has overwhelming power or surprise, lots and lots of people are going to die due to bombardment.

(3) No 40k/SW here, thankee.

So if you're not already engaged with Guryeon, I'd like to RP with ye.

I don't think he's going to be available, so feel free to set something up. I'll be busy for the next day or two, but if you start the thread (and TG me so I can find it) then I'll respond as soon as I can.
