In the small sphere of Avalas' immediate influence, one of the few Triumph class vessels in service has been prepared in ceremonial and festive fashion. An otherwise dark, looming, and disturbingly Gothic structure has been painted a bright gold pattern framed in majestic lines of red; and delicate, swept, frostings of white. Iron-clad hallways are decked with ribbons and carpet, swaying softly beneath a fantastic, arched, ceiling.

Here, Tintibulus funds and oversees the preparations for the first International Convention of Technology; a bold diplomatic event that bodes all distantly neighboring nations come to showcase their finest in commercial (or simply unpatented) technologies and compare notes with others of the same mind.

Several notable public officials are said to be on-board, though no names have been released to-date. All visitors, however, are clearly welcome - and docking and service is provided to even passerby travelers as the titan of a vessel crawled towards the heart of the Milky Way.

A ship from the Commonalitarianism heads toward this lofty gothic structure. It is dubbed "The Lady Luck", painted on its bow are a pair of dice, a wheel of fortune, three women-- a young human, a middle aged canid, and an elderly worm queen, there is a flag wtih a tortoise on it. The ship itself appears to be a strange amalgam of privateer, salvage ship, and free trader.

A simple hail is sent from its captain, one Sargent Smithers, a neo-canid, "We wish to approach and commence visiting your esteemed establishment." A thin stream of smoke is coming from the cigarillo in his left hand. He is wearing a bright blue tri-corner hat.

A Wasp class Cruiser pops into space near the Triumph class vessal. It halts smoothly, it's crew not even registering the stop. The other ship was hailed:
Greetings, we are the Xiscapians, here to attend the I.C.T., as hosted by Avalas. We will be sending a shuttle with a diplomat and a few more with Techs and Scientists for the Confrence. Is this acceptable?

OOC: They'd want it anyway. They're desperate for new technology.

All surrounding vessels are hailed with a similar message in the common Trade tongues.

"You are free to dock at your leisure. All bays should be reported as open. Please ask for assistance towards the main Lobby if you require it." Accompanying this is, should the other ships be capable of reading it, is a small map indicating a portion of the deck leading to the Main Lobby.

Sargent Smithers comes out of the Lady Luck with his assistant Marcus Ohyes. Sargent is a neocanid in a tricorner hat, bandolier, and kilt, Marcus is dressed rather foppishly in tall boots, black velvet pants and shirt, a purple coat, and a green hat with a tall purple and orange plumed feather sticking out of it. Marcus is leading a strange looking creature on a leash, a Musean Dug-- a cross between a guard dog and a very big beetle. Behind Marcus and Sargent is a large flat floating plate with various boxes and cases on it, that is following directly after them.

They are walking leisurely into the main lobby.

The two shuttles (http://www.revell.de/starwars/reqRessources/img/produkte/abb_imperialShuttle.jpg) docked at the closest docking bay, the Cruiser hovering nearby. The first shuttle lowered it's ramp and the Xiscapian Ambassador walked down the ramp, flanked by four Black Guards (http://web.nafcs.k12.in.us/users/galena/Classrooms/Fifth/student51_Smith_Web/TANNER/Tannerpix/Shadow%20trooper%20II.jpeg). This is Vanadict (http://photobucket.com/mediadetail/?media=http%3A%2F%2Fi196.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faa203%2FTempest_King%2Fkitsune0.jpg&searchTerm=kitsune&pageOffset=10). She is the top Ambassador in all of Xiscapia or her colonies, and the Emperor's close friend. Her non-nonsense attitude and ability to cut to the chase has earned her many friends- and enemies. The next shuttle spilled out 10 scientist's and techs (http://www.gamestar.cz/starwars/jkjo/postavy%5Cimp.gif), all ready and eager to view and try out new technology. Behind them came a fifth Black Guard, effortlessly pushing an anit-grav cart piled high with all sorts of technology. Using the map given to her in the ship, Vanadict led her party to the Lobby, where they saw Marcus and Sargent. Vanadict is too polite, and the guards are too disiplined, by the scientists and techs crack up at the sight of the outlandish clothing worn by the two men. Vanadict silences them with a glance. "This is the main Lobby, yes?" She says in flawless Terran, if not flawless grammer.

The dug starts making sharp clicking sounds "click-hiss-click-click" as Sarge and Marcus move further into the lobby. They call central and ask a basic question.

Marcus says, "Is there a place where we can set up our stand. We would like to start fairly quickly."

Sargent places his hand on an ornate hilt of what looks like a sword in its scabbard, there is a large artificial red gem at the back of the hilt. He takes several more puffs from his cigarillo, it gives off a strange greenish smoke, and smells faintly of mint, nothing like any earthly plant. He wonders about the laughter, thinking --Aliens have such strange ideas---.

Both Sargent and Marcus appear to be armed with both sword and pistol.

Sargent makes a sharp barking command, what looked like two boxes unfold from the float plate into two burnished steel worker droids.

Vanadict was somewhat put off by the human's rudeness. She simply shrugged her shoulders, a human gesture she picked up from being around humans often. Most human gestures (aka rolling eyes, shrugging, sighing, ect) are done with the Xiscapian fox ears or tail. They moved on over to the Lobby desk. "Excuse me, but is there a place where we can set up our equipment and technology for convienient viewing?"

Then a ship six miles long, and two and a half miles wide drops out of hyperspace. The ship is the size of a city and on it is inscribed the word, Prethenon.

Out of the ship flies a shuttle, the shuttle hails the vessel.

The Main Lobby has been decorated in the manner of a fantastic cathedral; with panes of stained glass stretching the entire width and breadth of the room. A quiet, maroon, ambiance is tastefully offset by the soft brass borders of the room. Many well-dressed and carefully-kept men and women are busying themselves in the room, laying out tables primed with refreshments and helping newcomers set up stalls and rooms throughout the vessel. Various signs were also being prepared as applicants came and left. For the most part, however, the convention was only just beginning - and most of these areas remained empty.

OOC: Galaxy one member? I forget names, sometimes.

There's a very brief alarm amongst the crew as the gigantic ship arrives all-of-a-suddenly and without warning, but no true disruption is to be had, and a monotone, effeminate voice, radios the shuttle - "Permission to dock granted. See port S at your leisure."

Sargent simply says Pattern S to the droids, pointing out the area to be set up.

He stands around taking some more puffs from his Cigarillo. The droids set up a self-inflating couch, some folding chairs and tables, several very large soft pillows, a green rug with a tortoise, a holodisplay, put out a simple brochure with basic information on the Commonalitarianism, various binders with pictures and holopictures in them. Not knowing what is safe for aliens to consume, they leave out little self-chilling bottles of water in large bowl.

On display on the central table is a very large clear box containing samples in miniature of a variety of products, little salvage space ships, civilian submarines, solar power satellites, industrial cloning vats for producing biomaterials, a paraterraformed asteroid, and various other things.

The binders are rather interesting, each set of binders contains a map of a particular ecology, plants, animals, microbes, insects, and other fauna from a number of worlds, Ganoxa, Gnome, Muse, Paradise, Bluff, and a few newly explored worlds. Apparently they are selling complete ecologies of various types for terraforming, or paraterraforming operations.

A man dressed in a particularly trim royal blue robe made his way to a podium raised in the center of the lobby, one surrounded by tables heaped with platters and condiments, and ringed in turn with rows of stools. He raises his arms, calling for a muted light to fall about him as he speaks to the hushing room. "Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the first bi-annual International Convention of Technology. I'm sure everybody is here for their own agenda, but we're happy to provide the exchange you're after. If you need directions, feel free to ask the staff at our kiosks, and don't forget to help yourselves to the buffet while you're here. If you need private rooms for your exchanges, don't be afraid to ask!"

He smiled happily at the crowds, and descended into the throng of people to tend one of the Avalan stalls. Worm holes or tears are slightly unpredictable, you could always end up halfway across the galaxy, or not anywhere at all. With hyperspace, the worst that could happen is an Indirector Cruiser pulls you out of hyperspace. I've heard about an intresting jump drive called the Infinite Improbibility Drive. "Ah. Of...Course. And how does Hyperspace work, anyhow? What is it?"
"Well, in layman's terms, it's simply this: A alternate region of space co-existing with our own universe which may be entered using an energy field (i.e. a hyperdrive). A "route" so to speak, is scouted out by ships and established in a string of coordinates. That was sometime ago, though, and now we just need to put in a string of coordinates and end up in the right place. Naturally, they have to be percise, otherwise you may end up inside a star or black hole or something. The lower the hyperdrive number, the faster the ship. For example, our fighters are a "class 1" meaning that they can go faster than, say, a civilian freighter, which would be a class 4. The fastest is classified, but I imagen it's well below a 1."

The best part is that is shuts down systems inside the ship, so if you need to board no automated security systems will attack you. Once the Dominion booth was set up, it was a formidable sight indeed. The latest in portable sensors were set up and scanning a virtual envirnoment, plasma cannons and torpedoes were arrayed in one corner, and at the center of it all was a massive machine labeled: Dominion SRG Mark X Artificial Wormhole Generator.

There were racks of infantry weapons and a static model of an antimatter torpedo. The real thing wasn't there for obvious reasons. A suit of standard DDF armor was set up behind force fields. Massive holoscreens projected the technical data and specifications for the equipment as well as the latest theories proposed by the Science Ministry. Periodically, it would show footage of many of the weapons in action. A chart was set up on a flatscreen monitor showing the going rates for a number of warships, meaning the shipyards were producing a high enough output to begin opening Dominion ship technology to the galactic marketplace.

The Announcer from earlier seems to fill the role of the classic nicety of the noble-class. Flitting from stall to stall, the man politely inquires of each display; prolonging their interest in the affair, and jotting down notes when deemed necessary.

Coming to the Dominion's area, however, briefly threw him off guard. Eying the 'generator', he strides quickly up to whoever happens to look in-charge. "Good evening - What do we have here?"

Meanwhile -

Small cameras and bugs had been layered throughout the ship. Those attempting to move deeper into the vessel were discreetly monitored, and all open displays were silently observed.

OOC: The private room was still secret, however.

Marcus Ohyes took a light repast, cucumber sandwiches, a cup of glorp juice, and some strong Musean coffee. Then he went back to his booth to check in with Sargent Smithers, the neocanid, who had taken a few minutes to readjust the furniture, droids never got everything absolutely right in Smithers mind.

Afterwards, he strolled over to the Ruthless Slaughter booth. He watched the theories scroll down from the Science Ministry. He was interested in the latest thing of course. He did not say anything at all yet. His clear recording contacts fed the information by wireless into one of the rings on his fingers.

The scientist who had gotten the booth set up strolled over to the Avalas representative, "And a fine evening to you as well good sir. I am Professor Michael Hendrics of the Science Ministry, pleased to make your acquaintance. What you are now looking at is the culmination of Dominion faster-than-light travel: an artificial wormhole generator. Necessity being the mother of invention, we needed a way to get vessels from one side of the galaxy to the other. Wormholes were always around, but never stable and rarely let you out at the place twice. We found a way not only to generate them, but factored out the variables and found a way to open a temporary, site to site jump corridor."

He positioned himself so that both the Avalas and Xiscapian representatives would be able to see it and that he made sure he faced forward toward them, out of respect.

"Gentlemen, this just one of the many marvels of a civilization that once spanned a galaxy and you are the first in history to have it made available to you. Before I continue, does anyone have any questions?"
Xiscapia
05-10-2007, 23:59
"I have two questions;" said the tech, his voice mechanical though his helmet. "Firstly, is that wormhole technology for sale, commercially or otherwise? Secondly, what is the ratio of destruction of that," he pointed to the antimatter torpedo "to your average proton torpedo?"
Ruthless Slaughter
06-10-2007, 00:15
"The wormhole technology is indeed for sale, though the only available commercial model at the moment would be advisable for use in capital ships and up, possibly a heavy cruiser. Otherwise we've found it becomes space prohibitive on smaller vessels, not to say you couldn't do it. We're working on a smaller model that should be in production later this year."

He smiled, "As for the torpedo, the warhead is antimatter, canceling out matter in 1-1 ratio. However, by canceling out the matter, namely, causing it to cease to exist, it creates a cataclysmic breakdown of matter in a target area. The more antimatter you load, the larger the yield. We estimate it has the power to severely cripple a ship with full shields and it is confirmed to completely obliterate one with none, having no defense against the breakdown. We only had twenty of these in existence and they are not for sale. Five of them were on our flagship during the final battle at Homeworld when it-,"
He stopped for a second, clearing his throat before continuing,

"Let's just say their destructive capabilities led us to only have a small number made for safety reasons. They are a bit of a double-edged sword: while their power can easily destroy an enemy vessel and severely damage those near it, it does not discriminate should a hit cause conmtainment failure while they are still aboard your vessel. We only carry them aboard capital ships and even then a select few that are modified with extra precautionary measures such as individual shielding for the torpedo rooms as well as incredibly thick armor."
Avalas
06-10-2007, 00:32
"With your device - are you suggesting that, in theory, a small enough ship /could/ mount it, if it provided the necessary energy? As well, where is the ship while it is in 'transit', and can it interact with others in similar states?
Commonalitarianism
06-10-2007, 00:42
Marcus Ohyes, "Basically two questions. What kind of internal energy field are you using to maintain the integrity of the wormhole? What is your power source for maintaining the wormhole opening?"
Ruthless Slaughter
06-10-2007, 00:43
"Indeed it would be a power drain on a smaller ship, though it is possible. While in transit, the vessel is in subspace, unable to interact with anything in real space. It can, however, pull out of the jump at any given time with minimal drain on the shields. It is fully capable of interacting with other vessels along the same jump corridor, though we usually never do anything more complicated than ship to ship communication or transferring inanimate objects between vessels. Though it appears stable enough to do so, we do not advise transporting people while in subspace."
Avalas
06-10-2007, 01:13
"What happens if a vessel leaves the 'corridor', but doesn't pull into 'real' space?'
Ruthless Slaughter
06-10-2007, 14:38
"Upon leaving the corridor, you should be pulled back into real space. At least we haven't had any incidents to the contrary. It will, however, put you somewhere between your original starting and ending points. This could be quite a large distance to cover depedning on where you were going.
We do not advise it, though, because while you no longer have to worry about plotting a clear course around stellar bodies, exiting prematurely could cause you to reappear inside one depending on where you drop out. Wormhole travel usually takes so little time that you would have little need of dropping out of the corridor. We can span a galaxy in matter of hours with it."
Avalas
06-10-2007, 16:26
He nodded. "I see. And can a wormhole loop upon itself?"
Ruthless Slaughter
06-10-2007, 21:58
"You mean being able to go back the way you came or setting a wormhole to open at the point in which it started? You can always reverse course though once again, I wouldn't be sure why you would want to or whether or not your vessel could handle it. Generally they're one way. Theoretically if your ship could handle the immense stresses of turning around at faster than warp speed it would be possible, yes. Personally, no ship I know of can. You would have to wait until you hit point B and open another going back the way you came to safely get back.
As for setting one to open at its point of origin, it is possible, but a waste of power in my opinion. I suppose tactically you could wink out of existence at the point of a weapon hitting and reappear to avoid it."

"And the starting bid is-?"

07-10-2007, 03:00
"I have been instructed to ask for exchanges of technology before moving to credits. However, the base is price at around one billion for the unit itself. Very steep, but then again the technology is incredibly complex and difficult to engineer. We'll include production rights and schematics free of charge plus assistance in setting up the production facility."

The scientist was stunned, I was aware we were the only civilization that had unlocked this technology, but I had no idea it would be in this high demand to everyone else...One could start their own civilization with these bids if this keeps up!

Another attendant in the booth typed into a console, opening up a line to the central government.
"Please, put me through to the Finance Minister. Yes, I'm aware we don't normally use currency I'm a citizen too! We have the wormhole generator up for auction and the bids are high enough that I don't feel comfortable with just us delegates from the Science Ministry presiding over this. An example? You'd like an example of how high the bidding is? Try this."

He forwarded the latest Xiscapian and Avalas bids.

"Exactly, please send someone experienced in these matters. We're researchers here to supply information about the technology and make sales, but this higher than we intended."

Amidst the furious bidding, the attendant approached the chief scientist, whispering into his ear, "We've got a delegate from the FM en route to take over, he'll be here shortly."

Nodding and slightly relieved, the scientist diverted his full attention back to the two delegates before him.

"Son of a bitch." The man sighed a little, closed his eyes, and peered thoughtfully up at the ceiling before speaking - "Twenty Billion, Five Factory-Moons, Three thousand out of five in stock of our premiere company in GDP - That is, mining - , Fifteen Commercialized Glory carriers, free permissions to travel through Avalan space, one thousand frigates, two thousand fighters, blueprints on the "Flachette" round, and working examples of finite field manipulation. This stacks, of course, with all other prior technological offers - and...A radio telescope off of the Observatorium."

He took a deep breath, filling his lungs after the long-winded offer, and glanced over to the opponent bidder, scarcely able to keep himself from sneering.

"Included with this will be a net shipment of six-hundred nuclear cold-fusion generators, scaled towards space installations and city-work, three billion tons of raw iron ore, and temporary access to refining facilities to make use of it. Anything we can't pay up front, we'll sign off whatever you want as capital."

He blinked as the chip was dropped into his palm, and looked up from it only in time to see Marcus walking away. Not thinking much of it, however, it was pocketed - and he turned to the technician.

"Of course. We'll send you a document at your convenience. Now, as far as transport goes...Certainly, once installed, it can be removed, should we wish to store it, yes?"

Meanwhile, gears turned furiously in the man's head. Hundreds of temporary economic reforms were being written and erased every passing moment. The military that was losing its ships would need to be reassigned to picking up the leading company's losses. They'd have to put it under soon, too, for risk of having it being bought out by the foreigners. He wasn't sure how the ministration would handle the sale of property, but he felt it wouldn't be an issue - for now.

OOC: It's important we do some on the fly history, for something i'm thinking of. Would they have had, at any point, a chance to jack and study a large-scale Avalas-made battery in the past? For ships, that is. When the transfer is made, their primary 'battery' (an obscene, potentially mythic <as will soon come to the factbook> invention), will be replaced with an extremely high-quality, yet otherwise normal, grid.

Also, on the map, we could probably add some 'rings' to represent the moons a good ways 'northwest' of Avalas.

OOC: Being new to the galaxy, the Dominion hasn't had time to observe the tech of most anyone, with their main priority being to resettle and gear up for an incursion back into their former space.
IC:
"Of course," the scientist nodded, "When not actively in use it shuts down to prevent constant drain on a ship's power. As long as you don't activate whil you try to remove it, you should be fine. It has an internal battery that holds necessary power for opening a corridor and stores it until activation. You can manually drain that and pipe the power back into the system for when you remove it."
