An Open letter from the Government of St. Sebastiansberg to the United Nations of the World:
Our greetings and admirations go out to all your peoples. Our own state, so small and insignificant, may have escaped your notice these few scant months we have enjoyed of independence. Following the wide collapse of the Haargravian Empire, several of their former possessions have been granted Independence, and our own City and It's people were one of these fortunates. Over the last four months we have been busy organizing a government for our people and attending to urgent problems of law, order and infrastructural maintance. As a result, a formal celebration of independence and coronation have yet to occur, and we would like to invite any countries interested in a new trading partner to send representatives to attend these events, with a series of trade meetings to occur with governmental officers and corporate lords being arranged over the week following. Any country wishing to establish a permanent embassy will be granted a parcel of land for this purpose. Diplomatic personnelle merely wishing to attend the pageantry of the celebrations, without any interest in long term relations will of course be welcomed, as would any visiting Head of State or Royalty.

St. Sebastiansberg is a small country on a northern latitudes island, consisting largely of one very large city at the southern end. The Northern edge of the triangular island is an imposing mountain range, and most of the rest is cultivated farmlands. Saint Sebastiansberg was until recently part of the Haargravian empire, being a primary manufacturing complex. The country has no mining industry, though numerous mineral resources are believed to exist in the only partly surveyed mountains. Food production is sufficient for the current population, but produces almost no export revenue. St Sebastianberger technology is of a high calibre, particularly in the electronics, light machinery and mettalurgical industries. The city has never been famed for large scale production, or of cheap goods, but for small to medium volume output of highend products it was the leading centre of the empire.

OOC notes: The Haargravian empire I just made up. Any resemblance in name or charachter to anyones existing nationstate is entirely co-incidental, and I apologise for it. I just didn't want my nation to appear out of nowhere. I have ran a couple of NS nations earlier, but didn't want to ressurect the last one, which died nearly a year ago. St Sebastiansberg is a differntial tech nation, being on average slightly ahead of modern technology levels, but behind in some aspects. In particular, the possess space travel technology left behind by the collapse of Haargrave, which at present they lack the manufacturing power to construct more of. If you are not comfortable in a situation where futuretech is occasionally in use, it is best to ignore my nation.
I plan to start the actual roleplay of negotiations and independence parades etc. in this thread in about two days, depending on interest. till then, use this as a letterbox for any formal or informal RSVP's to the invitation above.

The world is a difficult place for small nations such as yours but there are ways to strengthen yourselves. The Commonwealth hereby extends you an offer of Protecorate status. The benefits of being a Protectorate of Tolvan are considerable. That said, we would be pleased to deploy a portion of the 12th Constantinya Grenadier Guards to assist in the training of your troops. The 12th is assigned to guard some of the most sacred sites in Dontgonearthere, as such we ensure that they get plenty of combat experience, both in traditional and asymmetric warfare.
The current rotation is set to take place in two weeks, so you may expect troops fresh from combat. We are quite sure they will find training duty more pleasurable than standing guard.

There is no need, the Grenadier Guards themselves are quite well paid and Dontgonearthere itself is wealthy enough and quite well provisioned with troops. The Guards are invaluable of course, but we will not miss them for a few months.
As to the exotic weapons systems, is there a particular field of interest your generals wish to explore? Less-Lethal/Incapacitating weapons, area denial weapons, assassination devices, EMP, exotic ammunitions for small arms, bio-chemical, nuclear, etc. etc.? Or perhaps a unique project for your nations use? For a minor expendature we would be pleased to develope something specifically for use within your nation, or against an expected enemy.
As an example, our own nation is composed largely of desert areas. With a little brainpower we have developed several systems designed primarily to operate in a desert environment, the FLASH tank, for example, with its extremly low body and wide treads.

We are interested in discussing possible trade agreements between the Federation of Caelapes and St. Sebastiansberg. A deputation stands in the arrivals lounge at Saint Christopher International Airport, watching the rain beat against the great glass observation windows in their sharply pointed arched alcoves. The group consists of about a dozen men in top hats and black, longtailed coats, three women in elegant gowns, twenty soldiers of the second infantry battallion in inky blue uniforms and fourteen younger men in chauffeurs uniforms.
"I hope the weather is a bit less.... typical tomorrow when we have the independence parade." says the youngest of the besuited men, who looks to be around twenty years of age, where most of them are in their late fifties.
" I'm sure it shall be, your Highness, after all the forecast is for fine weather all weekend."
"Still, not much of a greeting for our foreign guests, is it?"
The conversation falters, and the men return to watching the runway, waiting for the plane that will soon be bringing the first of the foreign dignitaries to Saint Sebastianberg.
The airport's tarmac displays several of St. Seb's own passenger aircraft, which look quite bizzare to any outsider that sees them, featuring multiple wing surfaces, poorly streamlined body shapes and being mostly driven by large propellor engines. Landing lights create bright flickering sparkles through the rain along the runway's 2000 metre length.
A couple of the soldiers begin to dice at hazard with one of the Chauffeurs, the unit's sergeant studiously ignoring them.

The Vetalian plane, an exceptionally luxurious private model commissioned specifically for the Ministry of Trade, taxied towards the delegation and stopped. Several moments later, the door opened and out stepped an aide dressed in a black business suit with a silver badge. To those familiar with the Vetalian government, he was a clerk, the lowest rank in the civil service but still a quite high paying position, especially in the Ministry of Trade. Judging by his attention to every aspect of his duties, he was also angling for promotion to Lictor. This man quickly opened an umbrella and held it over the head of the man who stepped out behind him, a slim, sallow, middle aged man dressed in a finely tailored dark charcoal suit, olive green shirt, and intricately woven silk tie in a patterned shade of copper. A ring glistens on each hand and on the consul's left, a watch worth untold thousands of rubles ticks off the seconds through its seemingly perfect mechanisms. All in all, a portrait of exceptional wealth meant to show the foreign delegation his status and power within the country.

Carefully holding the umbrella to ensure not a single drop of rain hit the Consul's suit, the aide was oblivious to the water soaking his own suit, which was clearly of fine make but still inferior to the clothing worn by the consul. As they approached the honor guard, a group of Vetalian security personnel followed and took up positions around the plane, ensuring the security of all involved. Other personnel set to work unloading suitcases, clothing racks, and other supplies the Consul needed during his stay, carrying them off for airport personnel to inspect and pass through customs.

Once this was done, the security personnel followed the Consul and his aide in to the building. A total of six people, the Consul, the clerk carrying the umbrella, and four security staff entered the building and prepared to meet with the foreign officials.

As the Vetalian Consul and his staff enter the airport building warm dehydrated air is briefly blown down onto them from vents hidden above the door, removing the worst of the water from the clerks suit. The soldiers have already lined up at parade ground attention in two columns flanking the door, during the planes taxiing manouvers. As the prince and other members of the reception comitee bow to the consul, doffing their hats to do so, these soldiers snap their weopons up towards the ceiling at a sharp angle.
"Fire salute one!" bawls the sergeant. Crack! "Fire salute two!" Crack!
As the guns discharge with a curiously muted sound wafts of purple smoke discharge from both the weapons brech mechanisms and barrel vents.
The prince straightens up from his bow, placing his shiny top hat back onto his head, with it's long flaming red hair. The remainder of the group follow suite.
It is easy to notice that, like the visiting delegation, the clothing worn by all is of exquisite quality, and mostly silk. The men wear elaborately patterned and coloured silk waistcoats beneath the sober black tail-coats, with white lace cravats at the neck. The pants appear to be very close fitting, and are worn with mid calf leather boots. The arrival lounge itself is surprisingly opulent, featuring thickly woven swirled crimson carpeting throughout, plaster friezing on the ceiling and elaborate brasswork on all the fittings, including the mechanisms of the automatic door.
"Welcome to Saint Sebastiansberg, Your Lordship. I am Stephen Tatarian,
one of Her Majesties privy councillors, and this is His Highness Prince Vanya. I hope you will enjoy your time in our country, and that our countries will enjoy close relations in perpetuity." The speaker is the oldest of the men in the group, with curled grey hair and a hooked nose.
"Welcome to my country" quips Prince Vanya "The weather isn't always this bad."

Meanwhile the security personell are startled to find that absolutely no customs checks are carried out on the luggage, it merely being carefully loaded into the boots of three long hooded limosines that are there awaiting such a cargo.

As our private Jet lands at the Saint Christopher International Airport and our delegation of 32 disembarks we are greeted by Her Majestys' greet and meet party, headed by His Highness Prince Vanya himself, our delegation vows at the presence of the tall, young handsome, charismatic Prince Vanya.

Her Majesty's privy councilor Stephen Tatarian, has a bus ready for us to take us to our domicile, our interior minister intelligence chief Abelardo Colome Ibarra informs us that a high level 16 member delegation from the Hispanic Republic of Miami Jai-Alai will also be attending the festivities.

We informed the privy councilor of the first diplomatic problem for Saint Sebastiansberg security agents, our delegations do not like each other and must be kept apart at all times, we must not meet.

The privi councilor informs us they will do all they can to keep us apart but cant promise a chance encounter will not happen.
