A solitary figure slowly climbed the pine-studded cliffs upon which the reclusive Imperial residence was situated. Clad in black battledress, designed for night combat, the figure ascended several meters, hammered in a bolt anchor to the crag, attached a harness, weaved his nylon rope through the clip, proceed upwards, and repeated the process all over again. Slung around his shoulder was a silenced assault rifle that jostled with the rest of the man's equipment.

As he reached the top, the figure, ostensibly a Calizorinstani operative, donned a pair of night vision goggles issued by his real, though highly clandestine employers, the Ministry of State Security. Through the green lenses, the agent could see a dozen or so uniformed soldiers, all in formal uniforms, rigidly marching around the perimeter of the castled palace. Like clockwork, he thought. Lethal, well-armed clockwork. I wonder what a clock that could fight would look like...

Clearing his mind of irrelevant thoughts, the agent withdrew a tranquilizer pistol from the holster on his belt. A few depressions of the trigger, and, within moments, every guard blocking his path was down for the count, incapacitated by short acting anxiolytic chemicals - the MSS agent did not expect to take very long. The agent quickly ran to the servants' entrance, his footfalls lightly hitting the moss-covered soil. He withdrew a small sliver of steel, and deftly picked the lock. He was in, though he was not aware of the silent alarm triggered by his illicit entry. All that was left was navigating to the bedchamber of Empress Cecilia II Wellington.

After a few false turns and consultations of the building schematics, the agent reached the gilded wooden doors of the Imperial bedchamber, an ornate room decorated with some of the finest artworks available. Giant marble busts of past empresses, most notably Victoria I, dominated the corners of the room, and patriotic murals covered the walls. The empress' bed, a plush, purple, silk affair, was in the center of the room, and Cecilia II herself was nestled amongst the luxurious blankets and pillows. The agent hoisted his rifle, cocking it and releasing the safety cache. His orders were to be as sadistic as possible while delaying death for several minutes, and the agent would execute them spectacularly. He fired a one shot burst, releasing a single bullet into the empress' abdomen. She woke up with a gasp of pain, disoriented, confused. The empress looked down at her stomach, where a pool of blood was forming around her, soaking the silk bedcover. She looked at the agent with blankly, tacitly suggesting that he either get on with the murder or that he choke. The agent was more than willing to oblige, but just as he was about to fire off a couple dozen rounds into her left ventricle, he was tackled by a muscular soldier who wrested the gun away from him, knocked the agent unconscious, and dragged him off the premises.

Calizorinstani attempts to murder Empress Cecilia II Wellington

Late last night, a lone Calizorinstani spy opened fire on the Londinian empress in her estate nestled within the Sabæan Mountains.

The empress was rushed off to a private hospital nearby, where imperial physicians have declared her status as "stable" and have announced that Cecilia II "ought to make a full recovery".

The Ministry of State Security took the assassin into custody immediately, where, under interrogation, he revealed that he was in the employ of the Calizorinstani military and was acting under orders to murder the sovereign in order to destabilize the Commonwealth.

Further analysis of the man's equipment, demeanor, customs, and the like confirmed the assassin's claim of Calizorinstani allegiance. The enemy agent, whose name will not be disclosed by the Ministry, is currently under media blackout in a MSS detention facility, where he will await prosecution for espionage, attempted homicide, and violation of imperial sacrosanctitas by a special tribunal. Many expect the man to receive execution by firing squad within the next few days.

In the meantime, the Londinian government has not taken kindly to this atrocious act undertaken by the Calizorinstanis.

"Her Majesty's Government is disgusted by this horrific act undertaken by the nation of Calizorinstan," Foreign Minister Belladini stated in a press conference earlier this morning. "And we expect full reparations forthwith, or the Calizorinstani people face war."

Whilst the government was unwilling to state what constituted "full reparations", Andrew Stark, director of the International Affairs Institute, a Londinian think-tank, believes that "the Calizorinstani government would be well advised to give certain sections of California to the Commonwealth (probably the coast stretching from Monterey to San Francisco), in addition to issuing a formal apology immediately."

The Londinian government has also refused to comment on any increase in military readiness, though it is thought HMNB Monterey has been placed on full alert.

The President announced today that a so-called citizen of Calizorinstan, attempted to assasinate the Empress Cecilia II Wellington, but he says the CIA has no knowledge of such event. President Arnold said "We will give them a response in a month from now, we have to review our options on this matter. We don't want to spark a war, nor lose our territory, so worst comes to worse, we do not have our final decision at this time. I would kindly ask them to go pound on our neighbors to the north Khilistan, as it is highly likely that the man was a Calizorinstanian military man at one point, but was a Khilistanian terrorist."

He continued "I hope that our allies will stand firm and true to our side if it comes to war, I call upon the UFAN to delegate a peace conference that we will hold in San Diego, that both parties can agree on proper "reparitions" that do not cost an arm and a leg."

"I will do what is right, what is right is sometimes hard and viewed as foolish. I would be willing to have the man executed as a reparition, and maybe 2.5 trillion dollars to British Londinum. We are not sure on the territory issue on this time. We would be bothered to have territory in a potential hostile's hands, that could be used against us."

We cannot cede any of our territory to anyone, it was written in our consitution "Thy land that ye have added to Calizorinstan, shall not be taken or used by anyone but the sovereign owners that is us. We are authorized to defend the land", so we have several legal issues with this, I am sure we can pay money instead. It probably is a third party, trying to set BL and Calizorinstan at war.

We request neutrals to investigate this matter more throughly, we don't want to cede the California province, which has our capital in it. I say again, money, and land leasing to the Londininans would be acceptable, but permenant land ownership no.

While waiting for word from the conference in Granate, it seemed that yet another peachy little situation had seen fit to raise its head for old Christine Friedrich to deal with. Well, not "old" in appearance thanks to her slowed aging due to traversing a twenty-year metaphysical rift before returning to the world like her entire country had, but she could feel it at times; sixties by her years even if looking no older than her early thirties.

Reading the Londinian statement as it came in from the State Security OBSAT feed, she pursed her lips, the suspicion growing. "Well, while this makes somewhat more sense than that... goose chase involving Greston, it still seems off somehow. But then again when there is only one suspect, one plaintiff, and scarce evidence, one must first adress the matters in reverse order." Sighing heavily, she set to typing her statement on this matter as head of Calizorinstan's (arguably) main alliance...

We cannot agree more with our Soviet comrades than we do in this matter. While the attempt on Empress Cecilia II's life is of course deplorable, especially in time of peace and of generally better comport by the Londinian Nation on the international stage, rushing to war unless completely unspecified 'reparations' are paid is hardly much better. So, yes, but not by a great amount; and it does us all discredit. We are civilized nations here, and I trust that we shall act accordingly.

In trust of Londinian truthfulness and goodwill, and aside from any premature talk of 'ceding Western California' or such nonsense, we agree with the Fordockian and Calizorinstani proposals in toto. Before any talk of military action is brought up again, let there be an official combined investigation and mediation conference in San Diego, with full access to all pieces of evidence in any relevant party's possession. Prior to his execution per Londinian law, we would deem it proper for a neutral authority to interrogate the suspect; be it the independent Fordock, a Soviet Commonwealth nation, or perhaps a UFAN nation other than Calizorinstan. This would not permanently exempt him from his due reckoning with Justice, merely postpone it as required for all investigating parties to come to a fair consensus.

The Marines ran to and fro in the city builiding up their air to air and ground defenses, they activated the Skynet Surface to Air Missile stations. Then the Wilhelmsborougians stationed at North Island should surely be warned of an attempted strike. The soldiers gripped their XM-8s tightly as they watched barbed wire and M-2HB machine gun postions put on the beaches of San Diego, Pacific Beach and Oceanside beaches.

The Air Force units at Miramar were on high alert, across the nation, some odd 5,600 fighters had scrambled to patrol the skies of Calizorinstan, and the navy was well aware, their 6th Fleet was stationed just outside of San Diego Harbor, with the 5th fleet near San Francisco.

F/A-15 Cardinals were taking off of the U.S.S George Washington carrier to do hourly patrols, and thus make sure that any invading fleet got a hello from the Calizorinstanians.

Who are you to war-monger and try to solve all problems with your violence. Why do you insist on not investigating when a little bit of your time could insure better answers and make for less lives lost? There are only 2 reasons possible. Either you are a tyrannical dictatorship who doesn't care about its people and spends them like coin or you are a war-mongering imperialists who merely seeks another colony no matter what the justification is. We are offended that their are still countries likes this in the world. It is enough to make you doubt evolution. When you grow some sense and stop abusing people for your benefit you will take the time to save lives and confirm suspicions or realize the truth of the matter might be a third party.

However, noting the ramifications of any verdict, and wishing for no question of this man's guilt, the Commonwealth shall permit select observers from UFAN and Soviet Commonwealth countries to examine the individual.

In the meantime, continued Calizorinstani disregard for the consequences of their actions is extremely displeasing to Her Majesty's Government; as an expression of this displeasure, all trade between the Londinian Commonwealth and Calizorinstan is hereby suspended until further notice, and all personnel and naval vessels within HMNB Monterey are hereby placed on full alert. Additionally, the two superdreadnoughts under construction for the Calizorinstani Navy are being seized by the War Ministry for usage by the Royal Navy.

Until Calizorinstan apologizes for their attempted assassination of Empress Cecilia II Wellington, and complies with the proposal made by Mr Stark of the International Affairs Institute, the nation will continue to be penalized.

Shakal Communication

The Shakal government hates the overall idea of Regicide and is happy that Londonian officials have captured the Calizorinstani agent responsible for the crime. We however are not so welcoming to the using of there government vessels for use in the Royal navy. Such an act is not one of any responsible government.

Inresponse to this matter the Shakal government is readying its Kriegsmarine for a standoff with those of the Royal Navy. This measure will only be called off if the two Super Dreadnaughts are returned to there rightful oweners.

I find your threats mildly amusing. The Davidson-class superdreadnoughts currently under construction in HMNB Monterey are the intellectual property of the Commonwealth, and until such time that the vessels leave our possession, they are ours to do with as we please.

Furthermore, the sale of these powerful naval weapons were contingent upon continued good relations with Calizorinstan. Surely you do not suggest that we build vessels that will be used against us by a nation of regicidal belligerents?

If, and only if, Calizorinstan complies with our demands - which are not unreasonable - will the superdreadnoughts be built for Calizorinstan. Until then, they are Londinian, and your Kriegsmarine will be insufficient to dissuade us of this view.

President Justin Gannon rose from the breakfast table and strolled into his office. The paper was sitting on his desk, but he would not be able to read it right away. There was much to be done: state visit applications, laws to be signed, press conferences to give. It was all in a day's work for the President. As he sat down and began tackling the ordered stack of forms placed on his ornate oak desk, the paper's headline caught his attention. "ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT IN BRITISH LONDINIUM" the paper's large-print headline screamed. Reading on, Gannon's shock turned to anger. "What the flying fuck were they thinking?!?!?," he shouted, slamming his large palm down on the desk. Regaining himself, he picked up the phone and dialed his secretary. "Jill, cancel all my arrangements for today. I've got an international crisis to solve." "Yes Mr. Gannon," came the reply. "Now, to try and spare the Calis destruction. Last thing I need is to be thrown between an ally and a nation I've been trying for four years to smooth things over with.."

We don't care about those two dreadnaughts anyway, and what you view as disregardment is really our protection of our rights. You have no buisness to burst into our sovereignty, because I did not order that. I believe that a third party did to get you and I to fight each other. I am sure that you will regret your actions Dr.Davidson, you will regret causing a loss of lives on both sides.

I don't think we will miss the loss of trade. I hope you expect us to go down fighting if you so declare war, and I hope you will admire our bravery. We have allies in the wings ready to come out on this very issue.

I dearly hope a peaceable resolution can be found that does not involve taking away our land and giving it you, we need that land!

I say this for my people, that we do not want a war, and yet we cannot give away our own land, for it is folly to use that for reparitions, for is a life of a person worth taking away freedoms of people in that land? Is it really the right thing I must ask you? I will do as I must, to protect my country from foreign nationals that would seek to destroy our nation.

Zoingo finds that the assasination attempt is horrific, non needed, and stupid. However, British Londinium at this stage should not "jump to conclusions" and assume that the government of Calizorinstan planed the entire incident. At this point, anyone could be behind the attack, and a 3rd party may indeed be behind all of this. If the government of Calizorinstan has denied claims of being the ones behind this, they at least deserve a chance. The third party investigations should go under way, and all full investigation should go as planned. We also find it suspicious that British Londinium is demanding land as an apology.

However, British Londinium at this stage should not "jump to conclusions" and assume that the government of Calizorinstan planed the entire incident. War is a fickle thing. Many lives are lost, and within a normal span of the average world spending, a life lost loses 100,000 in terms of revenue. For every life lost, you lose 100,000. A pricey proposition. As such, it is imperative that you should not put your citizens in such a danger. As an offer of goodwill and an attempt to prevent your strained economy from becoming the shackles that it will be, the 97 Crowns will be more than ecstatic to launch a defensive contingent to ensure the survival of your people in case of enemy force projections.

Of course, this is addressed to the Calizorinstanians, or however you address your people who are living in the dangers of the fringes in war. If you so desire, I may give you one of the crowns of Jenrak to assist you in the protection of your people. After all, it is quite expensive to replace a life. And troublesome as well.

Madness this is indeed. An attempt is made on the life of the British Londinium empresses. The agent is thought to be of Calizorinstan. However we have no proof of that has no NON-BIASED neutral investigation is to be allowed. The same people at British Londinium then make territorial demands as punishment instantly. Calizorstan backs down but then decides not to? The only reason is because he either received support , or British Londinium was plotting with him. The first is more likely. We applaued all of the nations involved in the conflict that are trying to settle this diplomaticly, instead of going to war. One of our diplomats will attend the meeting that will be held. We were going to offer the Presidental Palace of Zoingo as a meeting place and a thread instantly created, but the "space elevator" of Axis Nova has already been chosen. We will be interested in this meeting. We also would like to remind Fordock that war takes way longer than a simple diplomatic meeting between nations. I think I should leave this at that, leaving Alaska to British Londinium is now not a bad thing after all. Why is your nation so hostile to us? Tensions ease in Calizorin-Commonwealth crisis

As Londinian forces sweep through the newly acquired Berincia province, relations between the Londinian Commonwealth and Calizorinstan are returning to normal - if strained - levels.

"Whilst the attempt on the empress' life is inexcusable, the Commonwealth is not so unreasonable as to maintain wartime footing with Calizorinstan," a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman said in a press conference. "We hope that this most unfortunate incident will remain behind us."

Trade and travel prohibitions on Calizorinstan have been lifted, though a new seven-percent tariff on Calizorinstani goods has been enacted by Kensington, to serve as "a continuing reminder of the crimes of the Calizorinstani government."

The assassin, who to this day refuses to disclose a name besides "Arnold", has been spared execution and has, instead, been sentenced to three consecutive life sentences in a maximum-security penal institution within Tasmania.
