Spy!: Operation Ice Breaker

Istanbul, Turkey (The 60's)

The midday sun lazily shinned across the blue sky. Below, the harbor bustled with fishing ships as well as commercial ships, criss-crossing the familiar water-ways to sell their catches in the local markets. A particular fisherman moved across the bow of his fishing vessel, a small boat with faded and chipping white paint with a Turkish flag flowing in the wind. He tied off some lines and jumped over a pile of rope and surveyed the scene ahead. It was still business as usual as he tipped up his hat and wiped several beads of sweat from his brow. He was a strong, tall man with blue eyes and cropped blonde air, unusual for a Turk, maybe because he was not a Turk.
"Kurtz, what do you see?" asked a voice from behind. Kurtz turned to see a lean man wearing overalls, his hair black and interesting hazel eyes. Kurtz took out a pair of binoculars and focused in on a ship off in the distance.
"A freighter off starboard, Claude" Kurtz replied as he set down the binoculars. Claude made his way to the bow and looked off in the distance to see a freighter passing through, ready to bypass between the dividing parts of the city. It was blue-hulled and of typical design, rather small in comparison to other vessels. What stuck out were the yellow letters CCCP stenciled along the side of the hull towards the bow. AS Claude breathed in the air and closed his eyes, a buzz and an audible beep awoke him from his trance. He pulled up his sleeve to reveal a watch with a blank screen with a blinking light along the side. He depressed a button and an image popped up. A shadowy figure sat before him, masked in secrecy.

"Agent Claude, report" the phantom said with an eery calm, with s subtle hint of forboding.
"We have the target in sight, permission to engage?" Claude asked as he took off his sunglasses, revealing a very noticeable sunburn.
"Wait, did you use some sun block?"
"No, Leader...we forgot to bring some." Claude admitted embarassingly.
"I told you to bring some, it's field work and I want to ensure my people are protected." Leader said in a concerned tone.
"I apologize, Leader. We'll remember next time"
"There may not be a next time if you fail on this mission!" Leader bursted suddenly with anger, clenching his fist and slamming it against the arm of his chair.
"We will not fail you" Claude replied with a note of determination.
"Good, check in once you've completed the mission" Leader said and moved for a button on his armchair to cut the feed. After depressing the button several times, he became frustrated.
"Dammit, I think I broke the consul during my rant" Leader cussed aloud "Can we get someone in here to look at this?" he turned from camera sight, his voice trailing. "...Okay, thanks" and the feed suddenly died.

Igor Sergejevits Zaitsev standed on a deck of a small blue vessel, with yellow letters CCCP on it. He had short, orange hair this week, and he was putting some sun lotion on his face.
"I miss Siberia, there never was a sun like this in there. Luckily I have this lotion from DDR, helps to prevent sunburns", he thought.
Then he turned around, looking at the captain of the ship.
"Are our contacts nearby?", he asked
"We are supposed to meet at a small pub at the harbour. We will be there in 20 minutes, at 1400 hours", the captain replied. It was usual that the agents never knew before by the last moment their mission. This of course causes taking wrong flights, packing sun lotion for a trip to Greenland or shooting a contact person, and other mistakes, but these all are a part of the work of a KGB agent.
Zaitsev looked down at the shiny, clean deck and asked: "Hey, do you know how to play curling...?"

Jose Diez was jumping for joy in his hotel room in Turkey, much to the displeasure of the people below him, for this was his first real assignment. No more walking around Havana looking for "suspicious gringos" or such. No this was for real, he would serve Castro by meeting up with a few Russians. His bags were thrown about, no sunscreen though, Cubans don't burn. he pulled out the small pistol, aimed in in the mirror, "Me llamo Diaz, Jose Diez"

a knock on the door scared him, he nearly crapped himself,

"quien esta" he asked, then upon realizing hes undercover as a cuban-American with spanish as a SECOND language he said "Who is it?"

"Mr.....uhhh...Muntanta, people below have complainer, please stop noise"

not sure of what the clerk on the other side of the door said he responded "OK"

((OOC: really sorry about slow posts, this is a catch up))

"Mmm mmm mmm." Rob made good use of his binocular's X-ray technology ability by watching the women who were sunning themselves on the beach, tailing missions had never been better.
Rob grinned as one of the little hunnies he watched rolled over on to her back, "Oh you go girl..."
His grin was quickly whiped off his face as something smacked him in the back of the head, spuring his spy instinct into action, he rolled off the lounge chair and reached for his... sunblock as he saw who his assailent was... a small boy who was chasing after a soft, multicolored beach ball. Damn civilians, never knew how close they came to death when he thought his cover had been blown. With a sigh, he went back to work, straddling his lounge chair and watching his target, a suspected Cuban spy named Jose Diez.

jhang zhou was sitting in his hotel room its was his first overseas assignment and to his pleasure. It would be more action filled than sitting in a Chinese-American montoring station on the Sino-Russian border. he walked over to his suitcase were he had all his paper work and intelligence equipment. he pulled out a American 1911 pistol and loaded a full clip in it and tucked behind his shirt althought he never really like to use guns he would rather use his hands. He could be walking in a trap so he knew he might want to begin it. He walked down stairs into the Hotel bar it had sort of Moorish theme to it. He sat down at a table and a man in a T-Shirt walked up to him. he was american waiter and asked he asked jhang a question.

what kind of drink would you like said the American waiter

Vodka said jhang

about 3 minutes later the waiter came back with a envelope under his towel and the Vodka and said

here's your Vodka and have a nice day said the waiter and he slipped him the envelope under the table.

jhang left the Vodka sitting there and walked back up into his room

Vladimir Nikolaievich Dragunov waited on the beach next to the city. A member of the KGB's 7th Directorate, in charge of surveillance, he knew that there were other KGB agents in the city, and that he had to find one before he could contact HQ for his next mission.

He sat lazily in his hammock between two trees, dressed only in a light green T-shirt and board shorts, eyeing some young Turkish girls tanning. He wanted to go over to them, talk to them, but he did not speak Turkish very well, and doubted very much that they spoke Russian.

KGB, of course, knew where he was - but whether or not they had passed that information down to his contacts was another matter.

[OOC: This is an opportunity for someone else RP'ing as a KGB agent to meet mine.]

OOC: Kahanistan, is it ok if my agent tails yours for a bit before this? Assume your agent sees this.

Harry had spent some time studying a turkish phrasebook for this mission. It was going to give him an edge in fornt of agents of organizations which paid less than FEAR.

He had been told to tail this KGB agent and it was getting boring. The agent had been waiting around, for something he presumed. It didn't matter too much if he showed his face did it? After all the agent wouldn't remember anyone who spoke considnerably well Turkish. The agent had been eyeing a few Turk girls and so Harry decided to make his move.

Harry moved out from where he was hiding into the street and then moved down into the field where the KGB agent was and where the Turk girls were tanning. He cautiously moved towards them.

From about a meter away he said, "Selam, benim adım Sadi." He could only introduce himself with a Turkish nme in order to prevent the KGB agent from becoming suspicious about an english-sounding name.

The women replied, "Memnum oldum, benim adım Selda," the next one said, "Didem" and the last one said, "Figen"

"Memnum oldum," was Harry's reply.

Zaitsev looked down to a beach with some tourists taking sun. However, a man with a light green t-shirt didn´t look like a tourist.
"Is it OK if I jump out now?"
"Sure, I´ll ask some locals to help me with the engine," the captain replied.
The engine of the ship had broken just when they got ashore. One common problem with Russian boats, nothing that a skilled engineer couldn´t handle. Zaitsev started to walk towards the beach, while watching at some women with talking to a man.
"Hmmm... So are they supposed be muslims or what? It´s not common that muslim women go to beaches. They look like Turks, but I can´t tell...", he thought.
He walked next to the man wearing a green t-shirt.
"White Brazilian tomatos are tasty in a hot summer day," he said to the man.
"Yes they are, but I like to eat them with Chinese mayonese," he replied.
Zaitsev knew this was the right man. Now they had to get to the contact.

Jose Diez finally made it to a small pub at the harbor, he was suppose to meet some Russians here. OK act amercano, peinsa! piensa! what would an ameicano do. He strolled into the pub mockily proud, trying to make an apperence. Only to get a few eyes rolling and a grunt or two. Soon he took a seat at the bar looking over the beers they had he realized he didn't know Turkish. His brother knew Turkish, but he was on a mission in England. Posing as a Cuban/turk tourist in England. Also his brother was the whiter of the two, so how he was a Cuban/Turk no one was quite sure off...

" I don't speak Turkish, but give me a beer!"

the bartender looked at him funny, and slid him a random bottle....

now just to wait on his minorely uncomfortable barstool

[OOC: Sure, tail him all you like.]

Dragunov turned to the man who had approached him. This must be the KGB contact.

"These phrasebooks are very difficult to read," he said. "Latin letters and all sorts of weird diacritical marks. At least it isn't Ottoman Turkish." The old form of Turkish, in use from the 13th century to 1922, had been written in a form of the Arabic alphabet.

"Then, we'd really be in a heap. But I really need to learn this language." He nodded to the other man, who was still chatting busily with the Turkish girls. And not let these decadent capitalists pollute my mind while I'm here.

Zaitsev walked inside a bar, wich was only a 100 meters from the beach. He looked all over, it seemed like there was some sort of Moorish theme in the bar. He took a seat on table 5, next to an amercan looking tourist. He gave the man a small piece of paper, wich said: "The cargo is in the harbor."
Zaitsev looked over his shoulder.
"Where Dragunov is, he was supposed to come right after me..."

Diez was gettin wasted...apparently the bartenders favorite trick was to get Americans wasted on his "personal favorite." That and Jose didn't hold his liquor well, when he got the note he read it over and took another bottle...

"HEYYEHEYYY, I SHOULDDD G-G-G-G-OOOo!!! Tengo mucho touring" he began to stumble out of the bar,

"VIVA LA-"

OOC: hes a drunken contact, have fun

Zaitsev looked at the contact. He was totally wasted, he could note that miles away.
"My cousin is a bit tired right now, it´s better if we took a walk outside," he said to the waitor.
"What about the bill, sir?"
"You can send it to the embassy of United States," he replied. Always have your bills sent to your enemy.
He walked outside, supporting the drunk contact so he didn´t fell over. He still wandered where Druganov went.
"I don´t have time to watch after him, I have busier things to do," he thought.
The sun shined brightly.
"I need to put on more sun lotion when we get to the boat."
He pushed the contact on the deck and said hi to the captain.
"The engine will be fixed in two hours. We can leave by then," the captain said.
Some Turk was fixing the engine.
"Fine, I have plenty of time to find my partner."

"Looking for someone?" asked the KGB man. He was sure this was his contact, but was wondering how he could just miss him. Maybe his cover was too good.

"Anyway, we should focus on rescuing that man who fell overboard. We can talk after we save him." Noticing a lifeboat, Dragunov lowered it into the water, then dove in headfirst.

"Oh, there you are. I thought you just followed me. Oh well, better if we hurry, that guy is our contact. If he drowns, the whole mission is kaput."
Zaitsev took his shirt off and jumped to the sea.
"This is so going to ruin my hair," he thought.
Zaitsev managed to catch the contact, but suddenly he felt like someone was pulling him down.
"What is this?"

His target moved, he had to make it to the front of the hotel before his mark so he could tail him to his contacts, he quickly grabbed up his shirt, a bright red affair with yellow letters that prominently displayed ONE IS IN THE OVEN!!! and began a brisk walk toward the front lobby. He made it just in time to see his mark begin to walk off down the street, a bottle of tequilla in his hand.
He hailed a cab, no point in walking when you could ride, "Follow that man with the Tequilla bottle, I'll make it worth your while." he said with a smile as he greased the cabbie's palms with a handful of greenbacks.
"Yo pal, what do you think I am? A bum or something?!" A fat balding middle aged American looked at him with a serious look, 5 1 dollar bills in his hand.
Rob's mouth dropped, No way. In Brooklyn, the cabbies were all from Turkey, in Turkey it seemed the cabbies were all from Brooklyn, what were the chances. "Uhh.. sorry, here..." Rob handed the man another $20, "Follow that guy will you? I'll double the fair if he don't see us."
"You got it pal... one indescreet tailin' coming up!"

__________

Later

From the roof of a building across the street Rob watched his mark put down drink after drink, wondering how the man could handle it but after nearly an hour he realized, the man couldn't handle it, perhaps he could intercept? Clearing his throat, Rob made his best impression of a russian, "Dos-fedonia comerad!" he repeated the line over and over until his syllables became thick and gutteral and then climbed down the fire escape trying not to draw any attention. The fact that he was scaling down the fire escape in the rear was likely the only reason he wasn't spotted by the real KGB agents who rounded the corner and headed into the bar right as he came around the block.
"Shit..."
Doubling back, Rob kept a descreat watch over the enterance as he saw the others leave, a staggering Jose was being escorted by some of KGB's finest.

"We have to hurry, local patrols are coming to see what happened. Normally they wouldn´t bother, though. I quess some of our enemies have gone bribing local officers."
Zaitsev looked angrily at the contact.
"He almost drowned me."
Zaitsev jumped out of the small rescue boat and climbed on the ship.
"When can we go?", he asked.
"We will be ready to go in 1 hour, if I pay a little extra to our engineer."
He pointed down some stairs to the engine room, where a Turkish engineer was fixing damages.
"Fine, looks like we have to fall to bribery, too. HQ won´t be happy about this, but the mission must be done."

Harry was in dismay when the KGB agent came up to him. Luckily the agent was distracted by someone overboard. He had no choice but to follow and hope he didn't blow his cover...for now.

He was mostly silent and while they went into the rescue boat and then climbed onto the bigger boat, saving the drunk who had gone overboard. During that time he had thought of a great cover.

"Hey, I'm sorry I didn't speak before. I'm a mole from the CIA come here to 'stop'( he used air quotes fro this word) KGB operations. I'm here to help and you don't need to tell me anything about the KGB." Harry made up. Boy, two different disguises in one day, "I was speaking turkish because I memorised a few lines from this (he held up the Turkish phrasebook) and I used a fake name because an american name would've been too suspicious. I hope this explains a lot. I'm Harry."
