A Developing Situation Part I (assassination, open, MT, early PMT)

The Far Echo Islands
23-09-2007, 17:29
(A few NS years after the Akimoadite annexation)

GRANT NORSE woke up that morning feeling completely normal. It had been a good nights rest, he was glad to hear of the 5th British civil war, ‘Those bastards got what they had coming’ he had thought to himself when he heard the news, he did not say that though. He had a plan that day; he was to speak to the graduating class at New St. Petersburg University. He washed, dressed, ate a small breakfast and drank his coffee, brushed his teeth, and then proceeded to his waiting limo.

‘Ah, Spring in New St. Petersburg is nice.’ He thought to himself, indeed; it was. In typical Echo Islander fashion, the city was about half natural, half urban, it was impossible to find a street not laden with blooming trees of some kind. The southerly wind that blew carried the scent of flowers growing on the hills of the volcanic mountains about 20 miles outside of the city. Norse took one final whiff of the scent, and entered the limo.

The ‘Echo Blue’ limo drove with an silence that perhaps only Echo Islanders were used to, there was no gas guzzling engine to be heard, only the sound of the tires on the pavement and the hum of the electric motor. The limo was approaching the college, about two miles to go; it and the caravan that followed it had entered the historic district of the city where the streets were paved with cobblestones, and the buildings had an Old Russian feel and style.

Unnoticed to the caravan, there was a loose section of cobblestones in the road, NSB was quite secure, but not so much as say a city such as Washington D.C., but under those loose and inconspicuous cobblestones was a bunch of explosives with a remote detonator, and a lunatic with the controller sat in an apartment overlooking the street. The limo passed over the loose cobblestones.

In an instant, the entire road turned to a fireball, nearby apartments were damaged, walls even knocked down, the limo and the cars leading and following it were turned to burnt wrecks. The sound deafened people who were close enough. The blast killed 20 and injured 70 more and caused about three million dollars in damages.

A 1:00 pm today, the Echo Islands government issued this press release:

Official Press Release

We lament that the Grand Arbiter Grant Norse has been confirmed dead at 10:48 am this morning. There appears to have been some kind of improvised explosive device planted by a possible terrorist sect in this nation unknown to us that destroyed his limousine with him inside. While we believe that it was an organization, we do not deny the possibility that if could have been a single man.

That is all the information we have at this time, we promise to keep you up to date on this developing situation in the Capitol.

Official Government Response
We thank the Burlovian government for their offer, but we have already determined that it the blast was from commercially available mining explosives. Though getting these explosives is very difficult, and we are looking into how anyone could have aquired them illegally.

Thank you,

The Echo Islands' Government issued letters of thanks to it allies for their support, but foolishly did not wait for them to show up before the oath taking ceremony.

4:00 pm

Tyrone Forman Jr. strode up to the platform, a priest held a Holy Bible in his hands, and he was ready to swear the Arbiter in as Grand Arbiter. The Sectary of Defense, the Sectary of State, the Sectary of Energy, and The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court were all in attendance as well.

The natural day had not taken on the same dark tone as this day of infamy had, the sun still shone bright, and the wind tossed the Akimondite and Echo Islands’ flags lightly in the air.

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of Grand Arbiter of the Confederate States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Confederate States of the Far Echo Islands." Tyrone Had just finished saying the oath, he was now Grand Arbiter.

There was an old clock tower that overlooked the ‘Ice Box’ as it was affectionately called, though it was officially the Arctica Palace, the clock tower was just tall enough to overlook the buildings between it and the Ice Box. And unnoticed, as the clock tower was a half mile away, and there was only a third of a mile safe zone, There was a small hole in the face of that clock tower, and hidden inside was a man with a Barrett .50 caliber semi-automatic sniper rifle. The sniper took aim at Tyrone, and fired.

At that exact second, Tyrone moved to shake hands with the priest, slipped slightly, almost imperceptibly, and pulled the priest’s head where his had been only a split second before. The massive bullet slammed into the priest’s head and brain matter covered the fine carpet and expensive suits of the leaders. The new Grand Arbiter dropped to the ground taking cover behind the bulletproof podium. “Somebody shot that ass!” He yelled out.

The sniper realized that he had missed, and he did not miss a beat though, he moved slightly and shot at the Sectary of Defense aiming right at his chest, And then the Sectary of State, a perfect headshot, and then, a harder shot, the Chief Justice, he was already crouched, but the .50 caliber round went through the man’s shoulder, wounding him but not killing him. The sniper took another shot at the Chief Justice, but this one totally missed. Now, with the magazine expended, the sniper retreated out of the clock tower. The Sectary of Energy was the only one spared.

A government sniper took the Grand Arbiter’s commands, and shot at the clock tower, but missed the enemy completely. An armored vehicle took off in the direction of the clock tower, loaded with Secret Service men, ready to kill the assassin. But they would be fruitless in their mission. The crowd was in utter panic and riot police could not control them.

At 4:30 pm the government gave this press release.

Official Press Release

Today at 4:08 pm today the Sectary of State Carroll Hennessy, the Sectary of Defense Arnold Nugeen, and the Archbishop David Juave were confirmed dead. The Chief Justice is confirmed to be in stable condition at an undisclosed hospital. The assassin at this time has not been caught. All were victims of a violent sniper attack on the Capitol.

The New Grand Arbiter, Tyrone Forman Jr. is unharmed.

We reaffirm our promise to continue to keep the people up to date on this developing situation.

Signed,
Tyrone Forman Jr.

A large C-5 Galaxy touched down. Onboard were 14 Ghost Ops, 2 HMMWVs and 50 Cazelian Marines. They were to provide extra security to the surviving officials and find out who was behind this. The leader of the investigation was Colonel John Mustang, a hardcore combat veteran about 28 years old. He had vowed to catch this man and a vow must not be broken...

"Sir isn't this illegal going in without approval?"
"Fuck it if you can manage to have 4 Ministers shot down within 2 days there is a problem and we need to be there."
"Who even knows about it"
"If you don't shut up soon it will be one less person"
"Point Taken Sir" The Young Pvt. kept moving towards the chopper. He called out "Hey sarge where exactly are we landing?"
"Stop asking Questions"
"But i"
"SHUT UP"

With that the team boarded a FFJM-01. There mission came straight from Tozo Tramine and had no presidential approval as it was a security risk. They were to board and FFJM-01 and make a 1 way flight. They were to fly low to the ocean outside of the capital. There with all stealth additions added on they were to bail out. The plane was to go down into the water being specifically designed to sink with little to no noise. They would then swim over the Island. There they would attempt to flush out the sniper and kill the person or better yet capture it. After that they were to go to the Embassy and present the man. From there it was the governments problem.

The Men boarded the jet. One had a FASM-01, one had a Scoped FBAR, and one had an RPG. They all carried FMPM-01's and FPM-01's as sidearms. As they boarded the plane the leader piloted it while the other two attempted to fit in a seat made for one gunner. They somehow managed.

There was a whine as the Jet began to gain power. The Cool concrete started slipping away into the night and then there was a lurch as it took to the air. It was a starry night and a glass cockpit. The Pilot continue on a pre-set course. He finally arrived near the Far Echo Islands. Now the tricky part began. He descended to minimum drop height of 750 Feet. Now it was a trick of not being caught. He slowed down the jet to just enough speed to keep it going.

Stealth may work against radar, but it doesn't work against eyes. Patrols were always carried out over the islands. It was not hard to intercept the jet. The F-35 that had been patrolling came around the back of the unidentified jet.

He broadcast a message on all frequencies.

"Unidentified flying object, you are to land at the nearest airstrip immediately or you will be shot down. Turn to heading 235 to acknowledge."

The pilot pressed a button and a missile bay opened.

"They found us"
"What do we do"
"Well we have three options. Die and shoot a few of them down."
"HELL NO"
"Be Subservient and do what they want us to and get Fordock disgraced"
"Not good but winning right now."
"Or bail out of the jet"
"That won't work"
"Why not"
"They will find us and intercept"
"Shit"
"Well?"

The radio crackled to life "complying setting course for heading 235"
The Troops groaned and followed the heading reluctantly. They had not better option.

The Cazelian Ghost Troops did not go to waste, nor did they sit around waiting for orders, they were almost immediately met by 7 of the 113th Amphibious, a special operations group of the Far Echo Islands. The team moved into the suburbs of the city, checking every house, looking for someone who might have done the assassination. They had to be quiet though, they could not really go into every house as that would violate rights, but they looked in every window, and in every house that was vacant at the time. Public places were locked down, and everywhere for a 1 mile radius around the clock tower was declared a war zone, and subject to whatever means necessary to capture the assassin.

But soon that proved to be futile, the rifle was soon found on the banks of the Coldaze River that flowed through the Capitol. The Coldaze was 2 miles from the clock tower.

5:51 pm

General Hyler Asaka was speaking with the Akimondite Proconsul, explaining about the 1 mile safe zone, when a call came in over the radio, something scrambled, the General picked up the radio, and said: "Repeat that last message."

The radio crackled back in, "Sir, we have an attack on the Ice Box, some fucking nut with an RPG just shot 2 rockets at the West Wing! We think it killed the Arch Military Adviser! Tell the Akimonadites to hurry the hell up with seizing the weapons!"

The General turned to the Proconsul, "Proconsul," he began, "there is no way that this is just one person."

The F-35 followed behind the jet and radioed the next leg of the journey.

"Keep heading. ETA to base, 15 minutes."

It would not take long for the planes to reach the Air Force Base.

On the airstrip, Humvees equipped with machine guns pulled onto the taxiways, alert for any treachery.
The SAM emplacements were powered up and acquired the jet, in case they needed to fire.

He flipped the radio off.

In the one mile radius, six thousand troops and two hundred tanks poured in. All streets were blockaded. All citizens in the area were detained and checked for weapons.

The Proconsul got into a MUTT. "Come on," he said to the Cazelia and Echoese commanders. "We must go to the field command."

The aircraft was silent as it screeched across the sky. Onboard was a single man, dressed in a black jumpsuit, and idly stripping down and reassembling his main weapon: an AF -07SE. Normally, the assault rifle was chambered for 5.56mm NATO rounds: this was chambered with 6.68mm ASI rounds, in a mix of automatic rounds and single shot high-velocity FCJ bullets.

On his belt were an assortion of tools, weapons and gadgets. On his head were a pair of Infared/night vision goggles. On his back was a blue parachute.

As the plane passed over the capital of the CFEI, he lept out, and fell for ten seconds before activating his near-invisible parachute. Once he was low enough, he dienaged the parachute, and fell 5 feet onto the bank of the river. Above him, the parachute incinerated itself, burning into ashes in seconds, leaving no metal parts.

He began to trace the investigation on his earpiece. The rifle details, the shooting, the explosion...
first he would investigate that church-tower. That would yield some clues.

The sun was getting low in the sky, the temperature had begun to drop, the New Grand Arbiter was in the basement bunker of the Ice Box, he was about to eat dinner with the Sectary of Energy, and as they sat down, the two leaders sat down to speak, and the conversation went as follows:

"Well, what a day!" Said the Grand Arbiter

"Indeed." Said the Sectary of Energy, Michael Yakjev, cutting off and eating a piece of T-bone steak.

"Who do you think is behind it all?"

"I have not the slightest clue." Said the Sectary of Energy, then he 'accidentally' knocked over his wine onto the Grand Arbiter's plate. "Oh, sorry, sorry!"

"It's OK." Said Tyrone politely. This wine won't mess up the steak; it might even give it some extra flavor!"

"Yea, it might! Go ahead, try it."

The Grand Arbiter took a bite, "Yea, this is quite good!" he swallowed the bite. "Wait, I, I don't feel so good, why, everything is spinning, w-*cough, cough, coughed up blood*" The Grand Arbiter fell over dead, poisoned. The secret service members immediatly arrested the Sectary of Energy, but before they could, the Sectary drank some of his own poison and killed himself. Next in line for the Grand Arbitral position, The Arbiter of the Senate William Verkez.

The Grand Senate Convention Center was located a block away from the Ice Box, and it was here that the Senators assembled to debate what was happening. Before the debate began, the Arbiter of the Senate was sworn in as Grand Arbiter in the senate chamber, and he began an argument to declare the country was in a state of civil war.

"I believe that this nation's government has been undermined, betrayed, and threatened from within. Our sovereignty is at steak here, I urge a vote to declare a state of Civil War in our nation."

"I protest," said Senator Jericho Henry from the State of Hector. "There is no clear enemy, no clear group to fight, we cannot declare civil war against what we cannot fight, the enemy is invisible, and this is a criminal organization, not a militaristic revolutionary regime!" We should continue as we have been doing."

The vote to declare civil war was defeated. But for how long?

He didn't even remember exactly how he'd come here. an Emperor's Guard and 2 soldiers had woken him at 1:00 AM, told him to dress quickly and warmly, and that there was a security threat. Quite dazed and drowsy, he obeyed and was brought to some sort of vehicle, which is where his memory ended. Then, he found himself here, in a secret base, about a mile under a polar ice cap. The officers here had told him of what was going on in the CFEI, shortly after which, he declared war on every nation in the world(Never made official). Normally, he wouldn't do such a thing, but what would you do if you were under a mile of ice, not knwoing where you were after being dragged from your bed at one in the morning?

OOC - Judging by what I read most Marines could only take up to about 10 seconds of it. So yeah.

"What the Fuck?" The soldier yelled as the machine turned on.

Then the pain came. It was like a thousand hot needles stabbing into his skin. He couldn't see any marks. He yelped in pain "TURN THE DAMN THING OFF". He waited under intense agony.

The interrogator turned it off.

"Well?"

The marine looked around. The first answer that came to mind was "Ever heard of the Geneva convention?" Then the troops would burst in with a flash bang and carry him off. Sadly thought this was not a movie and he was stuck here. So replied instead "I told you I was helping your government. We were only trying to prevent an assassination happening again. We tried sending a note but we got no response. Immediate action needed to be taken and we got sent over. I don't know anymore I'm just a soldier (Unlike you) he mumbled under his breath.

The Fordockian Government has this to Say

These soldiers must have been running a routine patrol and gotten lost. We think you need check again about their identity's. We would appreciate returning them as well.

*Encyrpted Note*

The soldiers were there to assist your government. The need was great and the time too long for you to respond to the government. There was a need for action. Nevertheless we request you use the soldiers and not commit human rights abuses why trying to extract information form soldiers trying to help you.

"You'll be detained until further notice."

Two MPs grabbed him and dragged him into a cell.

SIC:
Three men does not a protective force make. Next time, we suggest you retry your request, as the Proconsular office is rather backlogged at the moment.

And lastly, don't do it again. Relations are already strained between our nations.

Day 2, 1:00am

Senator Yav Erson slept unsoundly in his hotel room in NSB, the last 24 hours had been insane and bloody, but Erson had a competent guard outside his room, armed with an MP7A1, and trigger happy. He tried to sleep comfortably with that, but, unknown to him, someone who had avoided Akimonadite patrols all day moved in with a sclienced MP7A1. A cart wheeled down the hall, hauling sheets to the laundry, the guard glanced at that, the person with the silenced weapon struck then, a headshot on the guard, and then the cleaning lady to leave no witnesses, the assassin took the guard’s keycard, and entered the room. The door squeaked ever so slightly, and it was enough to wake Yav up. Yav grabbed his .50 cal. Desert Eagle, and looked for who was in his room, he noticed the open door, he approached it, pistol extended, flashlight in the other hand. The assassin leaped and knocked the Senator to the ground, the senator fired the Desert Eagle, the assassin, the bullet caught the assassin in the leg, but then the assassin shot the senator with the MP7A1, and the senator died. The assassin crawled towards the window, opened it, and slid down as best he could, but, he fell to the ground, from about three stories and landed head first, breaking his neck and dying. The Far Echo Islands Police would soon find him, but the body was little help. He was Hector Wes, a resident of Olde Towne, with a clean record, 29 years old, college educated, why on Earth had he choosen to become an assassin. It should be noted that there were attempts on the lives of all the Senators who voted ‘yes’ for civil war, Yav’s was the only successful, but all of the assassin’s were shot. They all seemed to be unrelated, random people, from all over the nation. Yav’s was the only successful one.

Kiravian Empire

Permissum Astrum Subleuco

Imperial Secriat of Defence

Ally Defence Office

This is growing intolerable. The stability of the Echoese government will not hold if key personnel continue to be murdered.

All Kiravian military personnel currently in the CFEI are available to be used as guards for any officials that remain alive, and the successors of those that have died. Free of charge.
