Aaron Preston sat in his favorite leather chair, musing over the letter he had just opened. He had retired from politics long ago, leaving it to older and more fit men than he, but all the same it seemed he could never escape the world he so badly wanted to leave behind. Eight years of revolution and eight more of Presidency had worn on him, his fifty-five year old body looking a full ten years older. Some men were born into greatness, but in Preston's case it seemed to be shoved down his throat. "Why in hell can't these people just leave me alone?," he said to himself, reading the letter. Just then his wife entered the living room from the kitchen, where she had been washing vegetables for lunch. "What is it, dear?," she asked with a touch of concern. "Can you believe these people? After I give them eight years of Presidency, it isn't enough. They want me to be King. King, for God's sake! I did not wage a rebellion against the UK to set up a kingdom of my own. What do you think honey? I need some input here," Aaron said. His wife read the letter several times before she spoke. "Aaron, see here. You wouldn't be a ruler, your position is ceremonial. The only thing you'd do is advise. It also says you'd be able to assume command of the military. It seems like a pride thing to me. Our neighbors all have kings, and we want one too. Just do it. What's the worst that could happen?," she finished. "Well, you are right in one regard. As it is I get ten bloody phone calls a week asking for advice. I suppose there's no harm in taking a fancy title. I just hope nobody's offended. Last thing I need is to accept this and be brought into a war."

IC:
Official Prestonian Statement

We are pleased to announce that today, following three years of widespread Monarchist sentiment, Aaron Preston has formally accepted the position of King of Prestonia. The House of Preston is hereby established as the official royal line of Prestonia, with the coronation of King Aaron I to be held on Sunday. Under the new system, the King will act in a ceremonial advisory role, with the emergency power of assuming command of the military. The descendants of King Aaron will hold noble titles but no actual authority. Any noble descendants will be excluded from running for national office for reasons of keeping Crown and President separate. With these exceptions, the national structure will remain unchanged. We welcome this new addition to our glorious nation, and wish it much success.

God Save the King,
Justin M. Gannon
President of Prestonia
Vice-Chairman, Prestonian Democratic Party
Order of the Republic, First Class
