It is my most humble honour to invite you to the annual Imperial Ball.

The Ball is a yearly tradition begun by our third Emperor, Emperor Coram Goldforest, as an occasion where the nobility, ranking officers, aand other VIPs of the Kiravian Empire, from our colonies far and wide, could meet for a night of food, dancing, and generalised celebration. Three-hundred years ago, Emperor Delric Earthtone opened the Imperial Ball to foreign dignitaries, which it remains to this day.

Leaders or representatives from all countries, free and enslaved, sovereign and non-sovereign, are invited to attend.

Princess Banmala squeezed her husband's hand tightly, nervously muttering to him in Hindi "Remind me again why we're only bringing one guard?" Prince Matthias laughed. "My dear, what could possibly happen to us? I don't think any terrorist organization with the power to attack at an event like this even knows that Akronis is a country. We won't be targets," he said with a reassuring smile. The Princess smiled back. "Well... I suppose you're right."

The small personal jet touched down at an airport in Kartika. It was silver and gold, the national colors of Akronis, however Prince Matthias wasn't too fond of the combination. He smoothed some creases from his suit- also silver- and quickly combed through his coifed hair before holding his wife's hand and walking down from the jet into a limousine, complete with the little flags on the hood and diplomatic plates. Princess Banmala nervously wrung her hands, her many golden braclets clanking. "Goodness, you're like a school-girl at her first prom," the Prince joked. The Princess looked blank and Matthias mumbled "I suppose it's a British-type thing." Although the British and Indian cultures had pretty much blended in the small nation of Akronis, there were still moments like these, the Prince supposed.

The limousene, with the guard on a motorcycle in front, earned many stares as it drove through the city, most people probably wondering what that flag meant. The limo arrived to where the Ball was to be held and Prince Matthias took a deep breath then asked his wife "Are you ready?" She shook her haid while trying to perfect her bun.

The door opened anyway.

The doors of Krovenirene Hall opened to the two Akronians. A man in black robes with sivler ropwork greeted them. "You Honours, I am Olvrin Hazelwood, keeper of Krovenirene Palace. Welcome to the Imperial Ball. THe celebration is just down the hall if you will."

Prince Matthias took his wife's arm in his and they walked inside, both of them bowing to Olvrin as the Prince said "Thank you." The guard followed behind, his eyes hidden behind mirrored sunglasses but undoubtedly darting from one person to the next, searching. The Hall was magnificent, the sparkles in the Princess's gold gown even more bright from all the light, and her golden jewelry seemed to have an aura about it. The Prince, in his crisp suit, looked around in awe that he fought not to express on his face. That would be unbecoming. This wonders of this place- he thought he lived in luxury but this hall made his palace look like an apartment. He whispered to his wife in Hindi "Remind me to have the Palace redone when we get back," he joked. She chuckled.

A black Elusion-class armoured SUV pulled up outside the Krovenirene Hall, and three people exited. The first two were a man and a woman in white Republican Guards dress uniforms, who stood by the side of the road, their P90s hung loosely at their sides. The third was a bespectacled middle-aged man of about sixty with a moustache, in a tuxedo, who managed to climb off the vehicle despite the ivory-handled cane he carried. The soldiers snapped to attention as he passed, the nodding politely, watched him enter the hall intently, then returned to the SUV, which drove off.

The man presented an identification card at the door. "Good evening. Arthur Whittaker, Federal Republic of Hamilay."

In Honour of the Kiravian Empires's Imperial Ball, be it known that the Celestial Imperia Nova Nippon, in the person of Lady Aiko, Indigo Blue, Beloved of the Kami and Kami born (http://www.faefolk.info/ibln.html),youngest daughter of the Divine, and granddaughter of the Sword will be attending the Imperial Ball.

So read the scroll that had been delivered shortly after the invitations sent forth by Emperor Kexarin Raincedar.

Now as dusk settled it's dedep indigo robes about the Kiravian palace and grounds a gleaming ebony hued Rolls Royce rolled up and drew to a stop as a tall, atheletically gracefull man man in unrelieved black formals stepped out. He scanned the area observantly, then stepped to the read door and opened it. He appeared unarmed, but he was an Imperia Wraith one of the elite, and he was never unarmed. His appearance tonight would not be the same tomorrow, for no one ever saw the true face of an Imperia Wraith - and lived. Or so it was said, and believed.

Carefully he handed out a slender beauty dressed in a body hugging, off the shoulder backless ball gown ball gown of deepest midnight blue irridescent silk. The exquisite gown was heavily 'dusted' with thousands of tiny diamonds, sapphires, and aquamairnes in a swirling pattern that started at the front of the tight bodice then swept down and around to the back, widening out to cover the entireity of the peacock style demi train. A tiny tiarra of similar stones graced raven locks that tumbled nearly to the young lady's slender waist and was complimented by a matching necklace, bracellets and earring that swished lightly agains her bare shoulders.

"Thank you" Indigo, Lady Noor said softly as she was followed out of the Rolls by her duena, a plump older woman who looked about with lively curiosity as she adjusted her own gown which was much more modest in style and fabric, whicle still being of fine quality, and suiteing her well. Once the three were away the Rolls eased away, it's driver taking it to where the other vehicles dropping off dignitaries werre waiting.

With Indigo in the lead they mounted the steps at a stately pace. When the doors were opened before them they entered, waiting until after Lord Hazelwood had welcomed General Whittaker.

Then the duena stepped up and withdrew the invitation and handed it to the Keeper of Krovenirene Palace. "Her Imperial Highness Lady Aiko, The Lady Noor, Beloved of the Kami and Kami born." Giving Indigo all of her titles, but not completely in the Novan fashion. Princess was not a title used with in the Imperia, but after many discussions - noen of whcih she had even known had taken place -those were the titles bestowed upon her when she left the Imperia.

Indigo kept a smile on her face but inwardsly she seethed. The duena was getting a bit of her own revenge. She had been ordered to only used titles when in public at formal occassions. And this met all the criteria for safely rubbing Indigo's nose in her origins. A home and life she was now forever exiled from.

Emperor Raincedar had been discussing a random event in a Coscivistani village involving a meteorite, two pies, and 12 pounds of thorium, with Dan Xeoxa, Governor of the Xirya Colony, when he noticed that the foriegn guests had begun to arrive.

"Pardon me, Governor, but I must greet our invitees from abroad."

He crossed the vast ballroom to the East Entrance.

"Your Majesties of Akronis, Sèr Whittaker, the genleman from Vanek Drury, Welcome to Kirav, and to the Imperial Ball. I am Emperor Raincedar."

The Prince and Princess bowed. "My wife and I are honored to be here in your country for this wonderful event," Prince Matthias said. "I hope that my first visit state visit to another country goes well."

Lord Sumguy stepped out of the car he had arrived in, dressed in a simple and practical black suit. He had to jump onto the sidewalk to avoid being killed by a car that had barreled into the area at what seemed like 200mph and skidded into a parking space just beside him.

Indigo watched and listened to the conversation with interest, though she had not had a chance to introduce herself. It suited her, for she was still shy and prefered to listen to others chatting for a bit before inserting herself into the converstation.

The Wraith and the duena faded into the background as was protocol, though neither of them - though for very differeing reasons - missed a word that was said or any nuance of interaction.

While a group of Senators were conversing in a corner, and the Pontifical Soveriegn of the Church of Valëka was preaching quite virulently on the dance floor, a group of violinists stuck up a chord, and the smell of Kirav's finest breads began to waft from the West Entrance.

"Of course, sir." said the Emperor with much interest, "It has been a great concern amongst the Secriat of State. I am glad that you've brought it up, and I will certainly dicuss it once the denads of courtesy have been met. Again, an honour, sir."

Princess Banmala walked over and grabbed some bread, suddenly aware of how hungry she was. It was frighteningly common belief that royalty didn't eat, sleep, use the bathroom or have any lives outside of ruling a country, and she was here to at least prove the first one wrong. As she ate, she rose an eyebrow at the man preaching on the dance floor, and she couldn't help but crack a smile. I like this place... maybe I'll build a vacation home here or something..., she thought.

The Governor of the Kotavora Colony was explaining the differences amongst the millions of types of Kiravian bread to the Governors of Enscirya, Colara, and the McIntyre Islands, as well as the ambassadors from Euleos and Mejoritia.

Governor Xeoxa's wife, Pacifica, drifted away from her husband's conversation with the Secriatist of Culture, towards Princess Banmala.

What does is the complexity and soul of the cuntry and its people."

"Yes, we are so radically different from every other country, to the poitn where most visitors are quite taken aback. Many find it strange that our cities and forests intermingle, and that we do not clear them for farmland. Some also find it strange that we use thousands of different writing systems to express our language. Imperial politics is quite confusing at times, but it is kept from corruption and abuse by the fact that we have no political parties or the like."

Whittaker gave a deep bow to Emperor Raincedar, as befitting a head of state. Hamilay still remained cool towards empires and Emperors, but it wasn't his business to get involved with the government's here as a diplomatic representative, and the Kiravians and this Raincedar seemed like decent fellows.

"A pleasure, your Highness. The Federal Republic is pleased to establish relations, however informal, between our two great nations."

"Yes, we are so radically different from every other country, to the poitn where most visitors are quite taken aback. Many find it strange that our cities and forests intermingle, and that we do not clear them for farmland. Some also find it strange that we use thousands of different writing systems to express our language. Imperial politics is quite confusing at times, but it is kept from corruption and abuse by the fact that we have no political parties or the like."
"I see. In Akronis, we set aside half of the largest island as a reservation for the native Bayaar peoples, a reserve for the protection of the national animal, the parrot, and to protect some of our jungle. The rest of the wood, however, is harvested. But a few years ago my husband had a strict law on replacing trees passed. As for languages, we have two official ones, English and Hindi. The Bayaar language, from which the word 'Akronis' is derived, is also used but not an official language," The Princess explained.

"Really? No political parties? The first Prince, Taaj I, tried to institute a system like that, but the British partisan system had taken too deep a root to be removed by that point. Like many former British colonies, we still use political parties, use the English system of measurment and speak English. Unlike other former British colonies, however, the British culture blended much more than usual with the pre-existing population, in this case settlers from India. In Akronis, you'll find a Hindu priest named John Smith or a man with a Yorkshire accent and the surname Suresh. I mean honestly, my husband is Matthias and my name is Banmala. Where else could you find such names?" She chuckled.

"Really? That is indeed quite interesting. I know of no other country in the world where such distinct cultures have blended. That is something for Akronis to be very proud of. Kiravian names are either words from High Coscivian like "Xeoxa", or a combination of an adjective and a noun, generally about geography or nature, like "Raincedar". What is Akronian cuisine like?

"Ever have Lamb Chops with Curry?" Princess Banmala laughed. "Well... lots of traditonal Hindu dishes, fruit is popular, we grow so much of it... Like our Indian neighbors, we don't eat steak or cow meats. Everything has curry in it, so lots of spicy foods, and of course we drink lots of tea." She then added one more thing, "Also, McDonald's. Besides this wonderful bread, what do you eat here?"

"Well, bread is, indeed a good part of our diet. We eat quite a bit of meat, usually poultry, venison, fish, or pork. Beef and mutton are eaten in some of the colonies, but they are to hard to farm in most of the Empire. In Xirya, we have many indegienous vegetables, like colerva, which is to be served tonight. Fruit is rarely eaten, save for Ceuvaran coneapples, and Kirverdan pears, simply because we cannot grow them in msot places. We use various herbs and spices in our cooking as well, and in addition, drink lots of tea, just like Akronians."

"You have not had tea until you have had Earl Grey tea with Akronian-grown cinnamon and nutmeg. There have been several attempts to make 'Akronian Spiced Tea' the national beverage," Princess Banmala said. Just then, Prince Matthias walked over with a bow towards Pacifica. "Who is this woman whom I owe thanks for entertaining my wife?" He chuckled slightly.

Prince Matthias walked outside, looking for his wife, when he saw Indigo. His gaze was transfixed on her extravagant dress for a moment, and then he respectfully bowed, saying "Hello, ma'am. Who are you?"

"I am Lady Aiko, late of the Imperia Nova Nippon." Indgo said as she gave a demi curtsey. "And I have the honor of addressing?"

After Prince Matthias introduced himself she chatted with him for a short time. Then watched in semi amused amazement at the man jumping out of the plane. However the night chill drew her inside where she sampled the delcious bread and listened in on conversations, but spoke little herself. The Wraith and the duena werw always a short, but unobtrusive distance away.

"It does indeed sound delicious.", and to the Prince, she responded, "I am Pacifica Wyntertan Xeoxa. My husband, Dan Xeoxa, is the Governor of the Kiravian colony of Xirya, your Majesty."

"Well, I would think a partnership of sorts insofar as you are willing, seeing as our organization's goals are similar. On a somewhat related note, I have noticed that there are several alliances such as ours that are devoted to working for the benifit of humanity, but currently lack the means or power to do so. These alliances may be not be the most powerful when seperated, but if united, we could be a force to rival any in this world."

"That, sir, is a novel and brilliant idea. To unite the noble-caused nations of the world under one umbrella alliance, or something of the sort. It is indeed a grand proposition. You are right, the goals of many of these organizations are quite similar, so that would certainly be an aid to such a network of international unions. How would such a,..for lack of a better term,..bloc..,be organized?"

"I have a general idea, but have not thought of many details. I was thinking something along the lines of a council made up one one representative of each alliance. That, however, can be worked out when the situation demands.*

I have been trying to improve the reputation of my alliance with the others that i have come into contact with for some time, but unfortunately we have not yet escaped the stigma left behind by Cazelia and North Calaveras. As such, I cannot effectively start a movement such as this alone. What is needed for something of that nature is a relatively new organization, with a spotless reputation and strong backing, to which the others may rally."

"Internally, they have done little damage. The Hegemony is as stable as has ever been. It is their actions upon their own citizens and forces outside of the Hegemony that were the source of their danger to us, as they made us a great many enemies who we would otherwise been friendly towards. I did in fact fear a civil war over my decision to expel them, but it appears the other Hegemonic nations respect my authority more than i thought."

"Indeed, which again brings up the umbrella alliance. Nations that would threaten the Hegemony could be repelled with assistance from the likewise-minded alliances of the world, thus preserving the honourable fraction of this world."

The troubles never ceased to follow Andrew Wallenstein. After a car accident that got the foreign minister in the hospital and the shipwreck that left his wife trying to hang him, his jet reported malfunctions at two of his engines.

Fortunately enough, he was safe. Unfortunately, he was late.

Surprisingly enough, all equipment that broke under his usage was tested and tested again by others, with nothing found wrong.
