On a tiny Island in the middle of the ocean, Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors prepared for the Providence war-games. The Nations of Naasha, Orbath, and Amazonian Beasts would participate with the Kingdom of Tristan Providence in joint war games to test all aspects of the Kingdoms Defense Force. Although small the Military of Tristan Providence was aiming to be the most well prepared military in the region.

Preparing the island for the last 2 months has been a huge job for the Royal Military. A 10 Mile runway, 7 Hangers, 4 3-level Barracks, main command building, supply buildings, mess hall, listening post and a port have been constructed to defend the island in the war games. The Island, Reinaldo Island is a small dot in the vast ocean. It is relatively flat, no hills or mountains. A few rivers cris cross the terrain. Some animal life lives on the island, However Mostly tropical birds.

The Royal Army, Navy and Air Force would be working together under the Joint command of General Dion Ben, RTPA. General Dion has served his country for over 26 years. Through several conflicts and wars. He graduated the Royal Military academy in 1981. The 4-star general of 66 years is the best commander the Royal military has to offer.

General Dion's command consists of the following Royal military units: 1st Royal Army Regiment (Royal Infantry), 5th, 7th Fighter Squadron, 2nd ASW Squadron, and the 2nd Coastal Defense Squadron, 1st Helicopter Attack Squadron.

'' It begins today.''

The man in charge of the whole ''operation'' sat in the situation room, alone. He had been given a great task with great responsibility. If he did well, he was likely to be promoted, then he'd stand a chance at becoming the next Defense Minister. That wouldn't be for awhile though, for now he had to focus. He looked down at his map, then at his ''roster'', his list of units he had available to him for the war games.

Available Units: Operation Sun Flash

Ground

1st Landing Brigade
2nd Landing Brigade

Naval

8th Carrier Group
3rd Invasion Group
9th Invasion Group

Air

5th Hell-jumpers
9th Hell jumpers

3rd Escort Wing
18th Escort Wing

The General sat alone thinking and preparing. He didn't have much longer though, his Task Force would soon be arriving in enemy waters.

He decided his first step would be a more diplomatic one.

To: Amazonian Beast Military Commander

From: General Jameson - Task Force Charlie Commander

Hello, sir. I'm am sending this regarding the upcoming war game. I have finalized my battle plan and have been thinking. There is no doubt in my mind that the defenders will be working together. I think we should coordinate our attack and work together, provide support to each other, ect. If you have any ideas you would like to share, don't hesitate to contact me.

15 miles northwest of Reinaldo Island

The ships of the Naashan 1st Carrier Group cut smooth troughs as they patrolled serenely across the calm seas. The flagship was the leading of the two carriers, NNS Undaunted, one of the twelve Nimitz Class vessels operated by the Naashan Naval Forces.

Her sister ship, the NNS Valiance, kept pace behind and off to the left, both critical ships surrounded by the inner picket of Duke Class frigates. Ahead of the carriers forged the two Dauntless Class heavy battleships, NNS Pride of Naasha and NNS Pride of Surdun, the first foreign ships to be commisioned by the Naashan Naval Forces. This deadly pairing of conventional guns complemented the long ranged missiles of the destroyers and the air power of the carriers perfectly.

The outer picket was held by Arleigh Burke Class destroyers and Ticonderoga Class cruisers, the multitude of escorts scanning for threats both on and below the surface while the fleet's E2 Hawkeye watched the skies. Below the waves and positioned in pairs, the four Seawolf attack submarines attached to the group prowled ahead, seeking out their counterparts amongst the enemy ranks.

Aboard the NNS Undaunted, the officer in charge of the Naashan forces, Admiral Nathaniel Green, surveyed his ships with a sense of pride. It had been several years since the 1st had put to sea in all it's force, hopefully they would give a good account of themselves today. Turning to his computer terminal, he typed a message for the allied commander on the island.

To: Commander of Tristan Province forces, General Dion.
From: Admiral Nathaniel Green, Naashan 1st Carrier Group.

SIC To Naashan Forces:

We are glad you have chosen to participate in our war-games. The defense of this island will not be easy. We have limited port space as well as limited hanger space. Our soldiers are also up against some of the most advanced military units in the world. Despite these odds we will prevail. Have your forces station a perimeter around the island. Our runway and repair facilities are available to you as well. Thank you.

I will be spreading my Arleigh Burke Class destroyers around the island until we know the specific direction an enemy attack is to come from. The rest of my ships will take station to the west, I'm wary of splitting my forces too much at this stage. I will instruct the soldiers of the Marine Expeditionary Unit to land on the island's west coast, we will deploy helicopters and HMMWV's with the troops to enable them to react quickly to an enemy incursion.

From my prior experiences in these situations, I can tell you that the enemy are likely to to attempt to pinpoint our forces by satellite and destroy them from the air before risking a ground assault. With this in mind, I suggest you get any ships underway and get your forces spread and camouflaged as soon as possible.

Attached to this message are radar and sonar signatures of Naashan aircraft, ships and submarines participating in the exercise, in order to avoid friendly fire incidents.

Sincerely,
Admiral Nathaniel Green.

OOC: My bad for not getting to this faster; last night was a bit busy. All free today though...
-I'm gonna move time along as if I've been approaching here...
-Also, if you want stats on anything, I'll provide them to you. I use a lot of domestic stuff...
-My naval stuff may look like a lot, but a good portion of that is amphib and support crap that really can't affect combat much (well, offensive combat...don't think they can't defend themselves if needed). Combat ships overall (excluding subs) are probaly less than Naasha's forces. Also...my air is overwhelmingly my strongest asset, so it those look big, that's my bank (hey, they ARE supercarriers...and two LHDs...). I'm basing numbers on what I see from y'allz that have posted stats up already, pretty much, while adding and subtracting here and there (ie, combat ships on the "minus" for combat aircraft on the "plus"). To that point, the ground also looks like a lot 'cause I sorted it, but it's <20,000 total, just a single division.
-Assuming this is MT, but if it's Light PMT (That's what that "Gladius" fighter looks like...cold plasma?), I'll update accordingly to my light PMT forces.
-Hope that explains everything-here's to a successful, and better yet, fun, round of war games.

320 Kilometers Southwest of Reinaldo Island
0550

The dark of night was beginning to lift as one of the Dominion's PCFGs-the light craft armed to the teeth with surface-to-surface missiles, for their size as corvettes-knifed through the water at 32 knots, not the maximum speed of the little ship but carrying it fast enough to maintain an average distance from the dark silhouette of the protected carrier behind it. Other shapes loomed behind while 12,000 feet up, an E-5A Owl AWACS craft patrolled on slow engines, radar patrolling for enemy radar blips. Two F-13A Flare interceptors hung lower, at 8,500 feet, in the night sky, preserving fuel by flying at low speeds as they hung around.

It was only a small detachment headed inbound towards the island-not speeding, but going forth at a quick gait. They would hold at 280 km-in the farthest range for more conventional SSMs and easily in range for cruise missiles, but at a distance that would give the ships plenty of time to react and blow the missiles down before they got even close to the fleet. It was technically the 12th carrier battle group, three surface action groups, and two expeditionary fleets, but it was still a small portion-quite a small portion-of the entire Amazonian navy, which was massive.

As the first golden rays of dawn began to scythe across the dark waters of the unforgiving sea, the commander of the operation-Vice Admiral Garrett Wolfe-was reviewing his "big board"-the electronic "map" display that showed Amazonian units (powder blue), allied units (bright green), neutral units (yellow), and known hostiles (maroon), the Dominion formation was tight. Several of the hunter-killer subs were off from the fleet's primary formation, but not in the range that they would be on their own-the subs were the heavy-hitters of the Dominion navy for multiple reasons, besides utilizing sneaky attacks.

A comm came in to the flagship-the battleship ADV Stronger, a Challenger-class battleship (the Dominion had opted out of utilizing any dreadnoughts for this operation, preferring to keep them home to attempt to quell the minor insurrection near Nova Oceana), from the designated allied unit in the operation, the forces of the Orbath military. The comm was short, but Wolfe interpreted the comm to basically mean, "What's up? And what the hell are we doing?"

Wolfe was occupied, so the lesser officers were assigned the task of replying to the comm-with Wolfe's name, of course-to the Orbath fleet. It was a basic comm, though it got complicated because of the information of the specs of the forces inbound. It was encrypted, naturally, but not enough to make it hard to decrypt by the Orbath fleet-if the enemy wanted to intercept the message and look at it, all they would discover would be what was going to pound down their throats in a matter of days. The second part of the message was heavily encrypted, however-it had the battle plans in it.

VSIC:

As to our plans as we advance on the enemy island, our fleet will soon be taking up position around 280km from the island to begin gauging preparations on the island. We will not stay long-enough for a pass by our main satellite network (in three hours) to provide better data than we could with standard military satellites. Once we can get a fix on the data, we will begin to advance deeper into hostile waters, taking a final position at no less than twenty kilometers off the hostile coast - likely considerably more to give plenty of reaction time to attacks, though not out far enough to hamper offensive capability.

Our navy is capable at both short-range and distant combat, though for this operation we will likely try to keep our range in missile and aerial fighting, rather than allow enemy guns to reach range. Our ships our fast-we should be able to maintain a distance that if the enemy wants to close, they will not survive the barrage they will suffer as they try. Once the naval force is mostly cleared of the largest surface warfare and undersea attack vessels, the amphibious forces will be moving in, escorted by the lighter combat craft, to attempt a landing on the southwestern side of the island near the docks.

One of our first targets will be the radar station. This is near useless for our ability-we have enough data that this will be too costly to try and capture, and if we would capture it, it would be beyond the point of neccessity. It is, however, an enemy strength that needs to be eradicated. Our aerial interceptor forces will attempt to clear the skies in conjunction with long-range SAM fire on the enemy air. Likely they have stealth aircraft, though (our data is not sure on Orbath systems) the Dominion has a good deal of multiple-vector and frequency electronic detection packages, along with a good deal of counter-jamming equipment to project multiple false signatures, to allow for considerably better attack on such stealthed targets.

The Dominion has stealth aircraft of our own in the naval arsenal, though that is not their primary strength. They will attempt to use speed and connected fire to try and create enough quick force to knock off the enemy, or force them into dogfights-where Dominion fighters can exert considerable manueverability to utilize short-range missiles and gun fire. If we can route their aircraft closer to the fleet and keep the hostile surface forces away, victory should be fairly easy.

Once naval combat winds down, the amphibious assault from the Dominion standpoint will be securing the harbor and utilizing it as a primary locale of operations to strike the rest of the island from. If the harbor can be secured (or alternatively, the runway and base segments at the opposite island end), than strike should be fairly easy all across the island. Air support will be utilized throughout the land campaign, hoping to route the enemy groud closer to the shore so that support fire can be easily utilized.

1st Royal Army Regiment (Royal Infantry) began its preparations for battle. The flat surface of the island will prove to be a tough defense. Especially against these over whelming odds. Few forests dot the landscape of the island. These groupings of foliage will have to sustain the Royal Soldiers as cover. The 1st and 2nd Battalions dug in on the north part of the island. There they would make there valiant stand. Trenches were dug and camouflage coverings were hung. Machine gun nests would be constructed. Tristan Providence's finest would make there first stand here. On a small Island in the vast ocean.

Corporal Antero Aydan was a 24 year old Infantry solider from 1st Platoon, 2nd Battalion. He has served his country for all of his adult life. He enlisted right out of high school. Being of good moral character and good leadership skills he was promoted through the ranks to Squad leader. He is now incharge of 5 men. This was his first deployment, all of his trainning sums up to this, the battlefield. He and his squad were entrenched on the northwestern side of the island. There they wait for the enemy landing.

Over 20 miles away Lieutenant Kody Evelyn of the Royal Air force sat in a briefing room listening to his commanding officer. His CO was giving to Pilots of the 5th Fighter squadron a pep talk about the up-coming war games. "Men, today is a big day in the life of the 5th Fighter squadron. Our fighters will be flying together with the Naashian Navy's Finest against overwhelming odds from the Dominion navy. Our JAS-39s are excellent fighters, with your training and skills you will be able to overcome today. God be with you all."

As the ships of the Naashan 1st Carrier Group headed east around the island, to take station some five miles off the eastern coast, more vessels were splitting off from it. These were the landing craft of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Unit, bearing some 6,000 marines in total, along with their weapons, equipment and vehicles.

Accompanying the deployment were the SH-60 Seahawk and AH-1 Super Cobra helicopters, associated with any modern marine landing. These would give the marines the ability to rapidly react or re-deploy, should the need arise. For now, the force split in two, the 1st Light Marine Regiment headed west to deploy along that coast while the main force of the 1st Marine Assault Regiment including their few Abrams tanks and LAV-25 APC's moved toward the centre of the island to dig in and await orders.

It was time for the mission to begin. General Jameson had a trick up his sleeve.

Along The Western Coast, Just Inside Enemy Waters

3 Ohio Class Subs sat. General Jameson had tasked the subs with a mission. They were ordered to destroy the enemy radar station. They would do this by penetrating enemy waters, firing cruise missiles, then they would disappear into the ocean. First they needed to get closer. They headed deeper and deeper into enemy waters.

International Waters

The remaining ships of the Task Force had stayed deep in international waters, taking a very long route around the southern part of the island, away from any defenses that might be there. They would soon arrive where they needed to be.

West of Reinaldo Island

The NNS Liberty, an Arleigh Burke Class destroyer, patrolled the waters west of the allied radar facility. The proximity to the installation had allowed the vessel to run almost silently, coasting along on minimal power, relying on passive sonar and radar information fed from the installation it was protecting.

So far, the day had been quiet, no enemy surface vessels or aircraft had been detected, although the crew were alert and prepared for action. An SH-60B patrolled further out to sea, occasionally scanning the water for shallowly submerged submarines with its mounted Magnetic Anomaly Detector.

East of Reinaldo Island

The remainder of the Carrier Group, apart from the patrolling destroyers deployed around the island, had finished overseeing the marine landings and now took a loose formation along the east coast, carriers in the centre and still protected, but allowing for as wider amount of sea and air to be scanned as possible.

A prop driven P-3 Orion ASW aircraft was on patrol off the Western Coast of the island. These patrols were carried out ever 4 hours around the island. As the aircraft flew low over the choppy ocean it opened its grey metal bomb bay doors and drooped a sonar buoy. The Sonar buoy plummeted into the water and began sending off pings. ping........ping..........ping...ping...ping.ping.

"Sir, we have something on sonar, 3 large metal hulls off the coast."

"Confirmed Sir. Active Sonar picks up 3 contacts."

"Command, Command, this is Prop-Watch we have 3 submerged contacts off the west coast, permission to engage?"

"Prop-Watch, Prop-Watch you have permission to engage targets."

"Rogar that Command."

The P-3 swooped down over the water and headed towards the contacts. As the targets loomed closer the weapons team prepared their MK 54 Depth Bombs.

"1st Target at 50 yards. Drop on my mark......MARK!"

The P-3 dropped 2 MK 54 Depth Bombs over the first submarine.

"2nd Target, 50 yards, Deploy on my mark...... MARK!"

The P-3 Dropped a second paring of MK 54 Depth Bombs on the 2nd target.

"3rd Target, 50 yards, Deploy on my mark...... MARK!"

And for the 3rd time the P-3 dropped a pair of MK 54 Depth Bombs on its target.

The depth charges fell around the subs. Like fireworks in the night sky, they lit up, exploding, sending pressure waves towards the subs. Two of the charges were quite accurate, landing close and rattling two of the subs. The third landed farther away, doing no damage.

'' Command, This is ONS Dark, we have been engaged.''

Command relayed messages back to all three subs. Within seconds, they put their plan into action.

The first sub launched 4 MK-48 torpedoes, hoping to confuse the enemy by placing multiple contacts on the radar. The second two shut down engines until they were moving very slowly downwards. The cut as much power as possible. Since they were very close to the coast, they were somewhat shallow water and had to ensure that they did not hit the bottom. The third sub then increased speed, heading away from the scene. It was unsure yet how badly damaged the subs were.

At the same time, the remaining portion of the fleet began coming up the eastern side of the island, still quite far out in the ocean. Soon they would reach their objective, but first the radar station needed to be taken out.

NNS Liberty, Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer, West of Reinaldo Island

"Message from allied forces, multiple submerged contacts west of our position, P-3 is engaging."

The bridge shifted from the serene normality of a maritime barrier patrol into the frenzied protocol of battle in moments, Captain Randall was the first man to the sonar operator's side.

"Sonar, report."

"Two... three explosions to the west and south-west, approximate ten miles. Sound like depth charges. No submerged contacts on the passive scan."

"Switch to active sonar, ping them."

With that, the previously quiet destroyer switched to begin pinging the ocean floor, searching for the three enemy submarines which had managed to slip so close in to the coast.

"Sonar reports two contacts closing from the west. I don't think they'd heard us until now. Designate contacts Sierra One and Sierra Two."

Another operator waved Captain Randall over, "Knight One-One reports third contact changing bearing away from the coast. Speed is high." Knight One-one was the destroyer's SH-60B Seahawk, which had missed the enemy presence thus far when they had pierced the cordon of sonobouys.

"We have firing solutions on Sierra One and Two, sir." The first operator reported, "recommend ASROC launch on Two, One is within torpedo range."

Randall nodded and smiled, today was going to be a good day. "Excellent, signal Knight One-One, pursue and engage Sierra Three, friendly aircraft operating in area." Once he could see the radar contact of the helicopter angling to chase the fleeing sub, he gave the next order. "Load tubes one and two," that was six Mk-46 torpedoes in total, "launch ASROC on Sierra Two on my mark."

With a shudder, the RUM-139 ASROC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RUM-139_VL-Asroc) lifted out of the VLS system, screeching away into the sky before angling sharply to plunge back toward the mid-range target. As the missile neared the surface, the MK-46 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_46_torpedo) torpedo was deployed by parachute, entering the water quietly while the missile splashed down loudly elsewhere, hopefully confusing the enemy sonar. With a whirr, the weapon located and locked on to Sierra One, bearing down on the target.

"Weapons report, torpedo deployed successfully and is tracking now."

"Launch tube one, all three torps on Sierra One."

The port side torpedo tube opened, spilling all three MK-46 torpedoes into the ocean to hunt their own target, the closer of the two submarines.

"Sonar reports all three torpedoes deployed, tracking... tracking... guidance failure on three. Other two looking good."

"Excellent, reload tube one and stand-by."

Meanwhile, some way further out to sea, the SH-60 homed closer to the target, guided partly by shared data from the Tristan sonobouy which had detected the foe in the first place. Once within range, the helicopter crew used their magnetic anomaly detector (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_Anomaly_Detector) to scan for the retreating submarine, dropping a sonobouy once its position was revealed. The helicopter swooped lower, thanking heaven that the enemy hadn't decided to fight it out if they had SAMs on board, and dropped a pair of their own MK-46 torpedoes after the third submarine, Sierra Three.

A Royal Army Warrant Officer stepped into General Dion’s office. In his hand was a report on the 3 submarines off the coast.

"Sir, One of our P-3s and a Naashian Destroyer has engaged 3 enemy submarines. No word on whether the contacts were sunk Sir."

"Outstanding. Keep me updated."

"Aye, Aye Sir."

General Dion sat back in his smooth leather chair. He was most pleased with the news of the engagement with the subs. It was a good sign things would go in favor of the Defense forces. The General looked out the crystal clear window over the island. A beautiful clear day as it was. No clouds, no rain, no operation hindering weather. Things were just right.

'' Multiple contacts inbound, looks like torpedoes.''

'' Aw, Fuck, get us out of here.''

Within seconds, the torpedoes crashed into the hull of the sub. AN explosion ripped through the port side, shredding through the hull. Water began pouring quickly into the sub. The second torpedo almost missed, crashing into the stern and ripping a hole in the hull. It only took minutes for the sub to fill with water, killing everyone inside. In that time, the XO was able to get a message to command about what had happened.

The ASROC had entered the water, it had been noticed on sonar but could not be stopped. It smashed the hull of the second submarine. The submarine shuttered, pushed almost over sideways. Somehow the explosion had managed not to penetrate the hull. It had done very serious damage though. The engines were disabled as well as the sonar. The sub was left a blind sitting duck, rapidly heading towards the ocean floor.

The third sub, the one speeding away began launching Mk 2 torpedo decoys and sending out electronically generated acoustic signals. The sub then rapidly changed directions, diving quickly and turning northwards, hoping to rapidly exit the area.

Task Force Bravo

General Jameson got word of the the situation. Since he hadn't heard anything from them since the transmission from the destroyed sub and couldn't raise them on the radio, he had to assume that they had all been destroyed. A serious blow, Operation Longbow had failed, a horrible start to the game. He didn't have time to sit and wallow in self pity however, soon he would be entering enemy waters, launching his invasion and hopefully making a stand. He needed information first.

To: Amazonian Beast's Commander

Our attempts to destroy the RADAR station were unsuccessful. We will attempt and air attack, aircraft are on route, ETA, 4 hours. We wish to know of your positions and plans for landing.

After the General had typed up his message, he sent one to Command back home. Although, he didn't have the benefit of a proper attack or bomber air wing, he could always dip into the escort wings if needed. Thats exactly what he did. Within minutes, 4 aircraft were fueled and in the air, heading to their destination.

First Sub - ONS Dark

The lights flickered, went out and came back on again. Sailors picked themselves up, quite a few were injured. Seconds later, alarms ran out. Sailors rushed back and forth, some putting out fires, some fixing busted pipes and some heading for the engines room, hoping to get the engine working. The sonar screens flickered and went out. Slowly, the sub continued sinking, coming closer to the bottom.

Escaping Sub - ONS Tiger

The sub continued fleeing the scene. It was hoped that both types of decoys had confused the helicopter and sent him on a wild goose chase. They cut engine power, slowly sinking until the sub rested on the ocean floor. They then sent out electronic beacons, if a ship in the area scanned with sonar, they would end up seeing multiple contacts. The communications officer sent a message to the ONS Overstrike, which was relayed to Command.

ONS Tiger

Have escaped, will continue mission, one sub lost, one unknown.

Command sent a reply;

Understood, have deployed air assets, please continue mission, air assets will advise in roughly 3 hours.

With the messages sent and a reply given, it was time to continue with the mission. The sub was now in range of the target. Engines were put back into full power and the sub lifted off the ocean floor, rising for the surface. As soon as it reached the surface, it deployed decoy torpedoes and the weapons hatches opened, making way for the the 4 Tomahawk missiles that issued from the bowels of the sub. As soon as they launched, the sub began to dive, heading northwest, hoping to go undetected.

Task Force Bravo

The Task Force was now directly east of the base and airfield, but it was quite far out in international waters. Soon the invasion would begin.

At the radar station, Airmen from the Royal Air force watched their screens for activity. The skies have been bare of action for the past 2 days during the games. Airmen waited intently. Soon radar screens flickered and beeped in a high pitched tone.

"Sir! 4 missiles incoming."

"Deploy Counter missile systems. I want them blown out of the sky."

Soon off the coast a De Zeven Provincien Class (LCF) Air Defense and Command Frigates fired up 8 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) to counter the missiles. The Sparrows flew up to meet the tomahawks at Mach 2.5, their Aegis guidance system guided them to the tomahawks in defense of the radar station.

Meanwhile, the crew aboard Knight One-One were particularly surprised to see the missiles popping out of the sea, especially since any wise sub captain would want to keep his head down after being pursued so closely.

"Visual contact established, the sub is on the surface. MAD confirms."

"Roger that, stand by to deploy torpedoes."

"Missile launch! Looks like SLBM's, not SAMs."

"Roger that, notify NNS Liberty and prepare to engage. We have them on the surface, they won't escape us again."

"NNS Liberty, Knight One-One reports surface contact Sierra Three detected. Multiple SLBM launches confirmed, engaging now."

Overview

Two more MK-46 torpedoes were launched from the SH-60, driving down on the exposed submarine. In addition to that, a second ASROC from the Liberty would attempt to down the submarine from range if the torpedoes somehow missed. The enemy captain had taken an awful risk to complete his mission, and now he would pay the price.

East of Reinaldo Island

Admiral Green studied the satellite pictures of the enemy fleet massing to the east, Orbathi ships his analysts had told him. The Amazonian Beasts had been slow to act so far, so more to his advantage if the enemy attacked piecemeal instead of together.

His own ships had been spread out along the entire east coast of the island, forming a screen for the marine transport vessels as they completed the landings, but with those fully ashore they could run for the relative safety of the port. It was time to regroup the fleet and give the enemy a united front.

"1st Carrier Group, this is Admiral Green. Form up on the flag and take close formation. We will patrol the east coast, at the minimum speed required to launch the fighters, and prepare to meet the Orbathi forces. The three patrolling destroyers will remain on station in their respective quadrants and increase ASW patrols and awareness."

Once he had finished typing up the message on the bridge terminal, Green turned to the watch officer, who saluted nervously, the Admiral was a little unpredictable when he got excited.

"Watch, signal form up on flag. Replace the duty E-2 and double the CAP, I went some fresh eyes in the sky. Signal our allies and tell them that we're going to hold here and try to deny the enemy a place to land or strike the island."

The man nodded and waited for a moment, there usually tended to be something else when he was in one of these moods.

"Oh yes, get me eight of our better pilots, four F-36 and four F-40. I want to see if what Grant pulled against the Trivalvian radars will work again."

ONS Tiger

'' Sir, multiple contacts inbound, coming from the same heading, they appear to be torpedoes.''

'' Launch more torpedo decoys.''

'' No good sir, we've used them up.''

The torpedoes impacted against the side of the sub. The explosions rocked the sub, the blast ripping through the hull. Water gushed into the sub and it began to sink. As it did, the ASROC hit the sub, impaling it and exploding, sending bits of metal and bodies off into the ocean.

ONS Overstrike

General Jameson sat, furious that his mission had been a failure. Satellite images came in, showing that the radar station was still intact. Further images showed SAM sites being reloaded. Jameson had to assume that the missiles had been shot down. Even more images showed that naval forces had been increased along the eastern coast and CAP had also been increased. Both of his chances at a suprise attack had been uncovered. He decided that pure brute force was his only hope. That wasn't going to go over to well either. He had a small fleet and he knew if he decided to play missile tag, he would surely loose. Instead, he ordered his ships further back to sea. He needed to wait for Amazonian Beasts, he figured they would have a more effective fleet and together they could crush the enemy.

Western Coast

The four aircraft, F/A-16 Priests, flew in a diamond formation. The lead fighter prepared to send the submarine a message, when he noticed a blip on the radar.

'' Command this is Foxtrot Alpha One, message, over.''

'' Send message, over.''

'' Contact on radar, near friendly position, please advise, over.''

'' Foxtrot Alpha One, Operation Longbow is no joy, please engage contact, remaining aircraft will dive below radar, have Foxtrot Alpha Two attempt to raise Tiger on the radio. Send a SITREP as soon as your done, out.''

With the radio conversation over, it was time to act. Foxtrot Alpha One made its move. Two AIM-54A RID missiles rocketed off the pylons. These missiles were even more effective against targets over water. Foxtrot Alpha Two sent radio messages to the sub, and of course, got no reply.

The four man crew of the SH-60B whooped with joy as the kill message lit up the screen, it had taken two thirds of their arsenal and over an hour, but they had tracked down and beaten the enemy submarine. And they had done so over blue water, a long way from the coast, a significant achievement.

As the helicopter turned away from its 'destroyed' opponent, the co-pilot activated the general radar, missing the incoming fighters by a fraction as the craft spun around to return to the patrol area. As such, the first sign of trouble was the beep of the RWR, followed almost immediately by that dreaded computerised tone, "launch detected, launch detected".

"Liberty, Knight One-One, engaged defensive. F/A-16 two radar missiles. Request assistance asap."

They deployed countermeasures of course, but with no real speed or maneouvreability, the Phoenix missiles caught them easily, whizzing past the chopper. The electronic readouts changed, reading 'hit, critical' and the pilot put the machine as low as he dared, tagging the craft as killed.

"Liberty, Knight One-One is hit and killed, over. We are RTB, expect inbounds."

***

The surface to air radars aboard the Liberty lit up the night sky in the direction of the incoming fighters, but their low altitude meant that they remained undetected for now. To come too close of course, was to negate that advantage and face the SAMs aboard the destroyer.

Whether the more powerful ground based radar which had been the subject of all this conflict would pick up the inbounds was another matter. It was certainly better sited to do so, placed higher up on the island it would have a superior view of the enemy.

Foxtrot Alpha Two responded.

''Negative, over.''

''Understood, remain at current altitude and wait out over.''

The pilot of Foxtrot Alpha One then radioed ONS Overstrike and they forwarded the message to Command.

'' Do you know who or what the contact was.''

'' Not sure of nationality, appeared to be a helicopter, likely on patrol, possibly took out Tiger.''

'' Understood, please lower altitude, and separate.''

''Understood, recommend course change, there is likely a ship operating in the area.''

'' Go ahead, Foxtrot Alpha One, permission granted.''

The aircraft broke off into two groups and dove even lower, flying dangerously close to the sea. Normally, salt water would be a problem, however, these aircraft were originally meant to be carrier aircraft and therefore were better protected. Each group took a slightly different course, still angling towards the coast.

With the news of the attack on the ASW chopper coming over the radio, 5 Su-37 Super Flankers were scrambled to intercept the enemy contacts. The grey-blue camo schemed fighters soared up into the sky above the coast. Each fighter bristled with 6x BVRAAM, 4x Magic R.550, and 2x Storm Shadow, weaponry. As the Super Flankers approached the contact area, pilots readied there missile complement for deployment. Radar lit up as the 4 enemy fighters were spotted.

"Command, this is Tiger Shark. We have 4 contacts heading towards to coast flying low. BVRAAM's are armed and ready to deploy. Engaging targets now."

The lead Super Flanker, “Tiger Shark” dove from the formation to get into BVRAAM range. The Flanker and the enemy contacts flew ever closer. As the homing sensor processed the 4 contacts; a low humming noise could be heard in the cockpit until it turned into a high pitched tone.

"I've got tone on the 4 contacts, Fox 1 Fox 1."

As soon as the order from Tiger Shark was given, missile alarms began to blare. The radars of the 5 Super Flankers recorded the two AIM-120 AMRAAM Slammer missiles heading towards them. Tiger Shark, Tiger 3, and Tiger 4 deployed chaff and interchanged fire with 6 Magic R.550s. Tiger 1 and Tiger 2 maneuvered their thrust vectored engines and split off from the group With a series of acute turns, while at the same time deploying chaff. They moved to close the range between them and the F/A-16 heading towards the island.

The targeting sensor homed in on the enemy F/A-16 Priests. A Sharpe tone indicated that it had a lock on the craft.

"Tiger 1, Sweet lock, missiles away."

A Magic R.550 darted towards the hostile contact. Ripping through the sky it flew through cloud after cloud heading towards the fighter. The white shell of the missile was smeared from the sudden acceleration. The pilot watched the streamer as he waited for confirmation on what could be a kill.

With a flick of a couple buttons, he opened the bay doors and let loose with two AGM-86Cs. They had been programmed with GPS to hit the radar station. He then dove, very low over the ocean, hoping to become invisible on radar.

"Income missiles! I can't shaa...."

*Static*

Tiger 4 unsuccessfully evaded the missiles. The AIM-9 Sidewinder flew right up his tail pipe and the Super Flanker exploded instantly. Tiger 3 and Tiger Shark manage to evade the other missiles with a few acicular turns and chaff. They watched as the priest dove towards the water. With their hearts full of enmity they pointed their noses down towards to ocean to come into gun range of the fleeing fighter. With guns blaring the tigers chased after the FA-16.

The 2 AGM-86Cs dashed towards their target, the Radar station. Alarms sounded and the whole island was alerted to the presence on enemy missiles. Solders scrambled to AA emplacements to attempt to shoot down the incoming missiles. 2 solider manning a Roland AA missile witnessed the 2 AGM-86Cs screaming towards to station. They hit the deck with the full force of their bodies to avoid being hit by the missiles. In a matter of seconds the missiles obliterated the radar station. A ball of fire that could be seen from across the island shot up from the impact zone.

Foxtrot Alpha One began to straighten out. It was now flying mere feet above the ocean. Enemy gun rounds splashed around the aircraft, many very close, one piercing its wing. The pilot, pulled up hard, becoming vertical and shot into the sky like a rocket. His left wing rattled and shook but managed to stay together.

Foxtrot Alpha Two, turned and began increasing altitude. He was hoping his bombs had been effective.

Task Force Bravo

Cheers erupted from the situation room. The General was quite pleased. His plan had finally worked despite the loss of his subs. He had just received satellite images showing the radar station before and after. It had been reduced to a smoking crater. This meant he could begin his assault. Task Force Bravo began moving, very quickly, towards the northeastern coast.

Task Force Bravo

The invasion fleet crossed the international line into enemy territory. They could now begin their attack. The general had received satellite photos of ships in the area, their last known coordinates and which way they were heading. The General planned on using this to his advantage. The ships prepared their launch tubes. Within an hour, every single tube in the Task Force would rain hell upon its enemies.

ONS Overstrike

With the radar station destroyed, it would become easier to launch air strikes. The air strikes would also have a bonus. The pilots would radio the coordinates of any attacker they might encounter. The ships of the task force could then deal with the threat.

18 F/A 16 Priests and 6 C-78 Firebirds lifted of of the carrier deck. Each aircraft had been loaded out differently, to allow the large air group the ability to counter many threats. The aircraft headed towards the island, most remaining under the radar. A few however remained above.

East of the island

With the enemy task force finally moving in, it was time to meet them in battle. The hovering E-2 Hawkeye AWACS aircraft was quick to pinpoint the enemy fighters, you can't fly below a hovering radar, and to direct interceptors to their location. 20 F-40 Birds of Prey were scrambled from the CAP and the decks of both aircraft carriers to meet with the oncoming enemy. Their stealth technology would be useless in daylight at this range, but it might confuse an enemy missile if it came to it.

Below, on the surface, the carrier group moved to high alert, the escorts clustered around the capital ships in two pickets, the carriers in the centre. The two Dauntless Class battleships were stationed just inside the outer picket, in case the enemy got tired of missile tag and decided to close to guns range.

The incoming aircraft were detected. They were out numbered. Only half of the aircraft sent were equipped for an air to air role. Thankfully, the aircraft hadn't yet made it far and turned around, heading back towards the Overstrike.

The General and other ranking military officers sat around a table. In front of them was a large, computer projected map. On the map was the enemy fleet, as well as the locations of other enemy ships that weren't attached to the fleet. The General knew he couldn't win in a game of missile tag, he didn't have the firepower to overcome the enemy fleet. He and the other advisors discussed plans. Finally, he decided he had no choice. He ordered the landing ships to head east, back to international waters. He sent them with minimal escort. Finally he gave the order to attack.

Alarms and horns rang out from the ship as well as those around it. Missile tubes were loaded and prepared. It was time to make an attack.

Smoke filled the as various anti shipping missiles and tomahawk cruise missiles poured from their launch tubes. As soon as a first volley had been launched, tubes were quickly reloaded and a second volley was sent.

Below the water, submarines moved closer towards the enemy fleet, preparing to launch torpedoes.

"We have missiles incoming skipper." the Radar tech stated to the captain.

"Send signal to command tell them we have been engaged.” The Captain ordered, he then continued to issue orders to the rest of the crew. “Sound General quarters. Weapons I want Evolved Sea Sparrows in the air to intercept some of the missiles."

"Yes Sir." The weapons officer replied.

The De Zeven Provincien Class (LCF) Air Defense and Command Frigate "Leland" Fired of a total of 10 Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSM) at the incoming missiles. Sparrows shot up at a speed of Mach 2.5. The Leland proceeded to make an acute turn towards the island.

Phalanx CIWS and Sea Wolf point defence missiles roared out into the sky, taking down even more of the enemy missiles. As was inevitable however, several made it through the net. Pride of Surdun, one of the two Dauntless Class battleships took two missile hits, once glancing off the deck armour while the other smashing through the missile systems.

The NNS Skipper and NNS Starfish, both Ticonderoga Class cruisers took hits and tagged as sunk, the onboard computers signalling that the missiles would have gone right through the hulls of the ships.

As the intercept flight of F-40's chased the enemy strike aircraft off, two flights of ten F-36 Gladiuses were launched from the carriers during a lull in the rain of missiles. These fighters were to carry out a classic Naashan air to sea tactic, fifteen of the strike craft flew low and led the flight toward the enemy ships, AGM-84 Harpoon missiles ready to launch while the remaining five assumed a much higher altitude a little way back. Once the leaders were engaged by the enemy ships, they would launch their missiles to occupy the enemy CIWS while HARMS were fired from the remaining aircraft to take out the radars onboard the enemy ships.

A return volley of missiles was launched from the carrier group, a mixture of the AGM-84 Harpoon and the Scorpion anti-ship missiles. This missile swarm would reach the enemy just as the fighters did, giving the best possible chance to overwhelm the Orbathian defenses.

OOC: My fleet is more scattered around the island.

The Leland took a direct hit its starboard side from a tomahawk. Alarms and bells howled as the water began to pour in. "Damage control teams to impact points, Damage control teams to impact points." the loud speakers divulged. Groups of sailors raced towards the breaches. By this time water was pouring into the Leland at an alarming rate. Water was up to the sailor’s chests as they tried to patch up the holes.

The Skipper of the Leland, Commander Teàrlach Brooks, RPN, watched the damage control teams on a small monitor. "Mr. Bernie, how long until you can have us underway?" Commander Brooks asked his Engineering officer.
"I can have us underway within 3 hours Sir." He quickly replied.
"Very well then, carry-on."

----------------------------------------------------

The rest of the Royal Providence Navy task force was sustained minor damages. General Dion read the damage report in his office on the island.

The HMS- Ward Deonte was hit on its port side and is listing 3 degrees. It is expected to be underway by the morrow. The HMS- Bronte received a minor 2nd hand hit when missiles exploded right beside it. Minor damage was sustained. The HMS- Marquise has been damaged beyond battlefield repair and has retired to port.

The General laid the report back down on his desk. He was disappointed in the losses he received. Although they were minor losses. The RPN did not have enough ships to spare him for this war-games. They were under manned and out gunned by the Orbath fleet. He only could imagine what would happen to his ground troops. He turned his chair around towards the window. Dusk was settling outside. He sighed and rubbed his chin with his hand. “How will you pull this one off Ben?” He asked himself. Worry had overcome him. He then remembered and old saying. “Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself." He hastily regained his posture and walked back out into the command center.

An E-2 Flying patrol detected the incoming aircraft. The pilot radioed to the Overstrike. Aircraft began quickly launching off of the flight deck. For now though, aircraft on CAP would intercept the coming aircraft.

Returning To Task Force Bravo

The various flights of aircraft heading back to the Overstrike finally entered the protection ring of the fleet. If the F-40s chose to chase any further, they would run the risk of being attacked by the fleets air defense systems.

Northeastern Sea

12 F/A 16 Priests prepared to intercept. Each pilot flicked buttons and opened their weapons bays, each firing a AIM-54 Phoenix Missile at the first flight of aircraft.

ONS Liberty

''Sir, radar is picking up multiple contacts.''

''Fuck, launch everything we've got.''

This was occurring on most of the ships. Ships began responding by launching RIM-7 Sea Sparrow Missiles and RIM-116 which successfully intercepted some of the missiles. A few of the aircraft launched from the Overstrike also managed to intercept some missiles. Those that got by were fired upon by CIWS and Firestorm missile turrets. However, many made it through.

''All right, I want a message sent back home. Lets get our paratroopers here. Radio the submarines and tell them to fire everything they've got. I want the rest of the Task Force to launch a coordinated strike. Focus on their missile cruisers and carriers. Get the invasion fleet to move in close, this invasion happening very soon.''

With the orders given. The ships that could respond, fired once again. Tomahawks and Anti Shipping missile soon littered the sky.

The HMS-Jerrod Skye a Vanguard Class Destroyer was on patrol around the island. Saliors onboard manned radar and sonar stations looking for activity. In particular ET3 Issy, RPN, was manning air search radar. When the BGM-109 Tomahawks appeared in radar range, bells and whistles all over the station went off to alert the crew to their presence. The Skipper of the Jerrod Skye walked onto the bridge of his ship at this time.

"Captain on deck!" one of the crewmen announced.

"Sir we have multifold BGM-109s inbound to our position." ET3 Issy communicated to the captain.

"Bring the Phalanx CIWS online, knock a few of them out of the sky."

The 8 MK 15 Phalanx CIWS onboard the HMS-Jerrod Skye came online and began to open fire on the inbound missiles. The rapid-fire 20-millimeter gun poured lead into the sky creating a cloud of rounds in the air to intercept the missiles.

The AIM-54 missiles tore through the leading flight, hitting five of the fifteen aircraft, but then they were through and within weapons range. Leaving the enemy fighters to the F-40's which were diverting toward them, the F-36 Gladius fighters began to unleash waves of AGM-84 Harpoon missiles, targeting mostly the larger enemy vessels.

Meanwhile, above the engagement, the remaining five F-36's of 'Angel Flight' switched to their AGM-88X HARM missiles, these homegrown varients of the widely known anti-radiation missile contained a larger charge in order to properly eliminate the radars on target vessels, even if they failed to hit directly. The twenty missiles sped seawards, automatically tracking the enemy radars and homing in on them, the extreme speed of the HARM would make it difficult for the already engaged enemy CIWS to do anything to stop them.

Having done their jobs, the aircraft swung towards the enemy E-2, hoping to score a lucky kill while the CAP was defending the fleet. Already in range, they launched one Meteor BVRAAM apiece at the critical target.

Radars on the Task Forces ships began picking up dozens of contacts on radar. Although their CIWS were mainly tied up, they still managed to launch some Sea Sparrow missiles. Aircraft that had been launch from the ONS Overstrike had time to react. They began launching air to air missiles to intercept the HARMS. However, due to the high speed of the missiles and the CIWS already being tied up, many missiles managed to make it through. Two more cruisers were sunk. An already damaged destroyer took more damage, rendering it unrepairable.

Mass confusion had broken out in the air. Aircraft and missiles streaked across the sky. Things looked like a large swarm of angry bees. Orbathian aircraft wer egiven a radio message as soon as the HARMS stopped hitting.

''All stations, target enemy aircraft, missiles have stopped. target enemy aircraft.''

With some guidance, pilots began to engage the F-40s and F-36s in the air. Many pilots launched short and medium range air to air missiles, some resorted to 30mm cannon fire.

The E-2 was busy tracking aircraft and missiles. The radar operators noticed the aircraft swinging towards them, and the air to air missiles launch but couldn't do anything. They sent a brief radio message to the Overstrike saying they were being engaged. They launched chaff. But it was no good, there were too many missiles. One struck the front of the aircraft, another stuck a wing. The aircraft exploded in a fireball and fell into the ocean.

OOC: Ok, I'll deal with your attacks in this post. Just to point out, Harpoons damage your ships, a HARM is an anti-radiation missile. These missiles target the beam from your radar and follow it back down to the source at incredibly high speed, they don't do that much damage to your ships but should decimate the radars. I'm hoping to blind your forces by taking out the E-2 and shipboard radars.

Outer picket, Naashan 1st Carrier Group

"Torpedoes in the water!"

The cry echoed across the ships of the picket as they all began evasive maneouvres to shake the enemy weapons. Sonars switched immediately to active, pinging the enemy submarines for ASROC missile attacks, these were launched only sixteen seconds after the inbound torpedoes were detected, as per NNF doctrine.

Despite countermeasures and heavy maneouvering, three ships of the six took hits, all started to list, their sonars useless although most of the other systems remained intact.

Beneath the waves, the four Seawolf submarines that had accompanied the group now began to close in on the enemy subs, relying on the panic of battle to mask their approach as they moved into easy torpedo range.

Inner picket

"CIWS engaging, RIM-116 and Sea Wolf systems launching."

This time, the enemy missiles managed to penetrate the defenses with accuracy, striking the NNS Pride of Surdun once again. The great ship began to list as she took on water, still afloat but badly crippled.

They would pay for that. Seeking to use the superior numbers and firepower of the fleet, Admiral Green ordered his ships to open fire once again. Let's see how the Orbathian systems could cope with HARM's, an aerial battle and a missile spam.

In the air

Three F-40's went down to enemy missiles as they closed to engage, the nimble air to air fighters found it easy to avoid the cannon fire however. The air battles had combined into one swirling dogfight now, the Naashan superior numbers beginning to dwindle slightly.

''Get another E-2 in the sky, send it up with a couple of permanent escorts. Launch another volley of missiles and get those subs to make another attack.''

With the orders given, missiles poured from the missiles tubes of the fleets ships. Fewer than before due to losses, but a damaging amount still.

"More missiles incoming!" The Radar tech yelled onboard the bridge of the HMS- Jerrod Skye. The Jerrod Skye was heavily damaged. It had taken a missile and torpedo hit broadside. Water was pouring in on all sides. Sailors rushed from place to place to control the inflow of water. All seemed lost for the Jerrod Skye. Especially now that more missiles were on the way.

"Get the remaining CIWs systems online and try and shoot down some of those missiles." The Captain ordered.

With one last ounce of strength the Jerrod Skye fought back with all its might. Bullets poured into the air from the CIWS guns. The missiles closed in to their target. The crew watched and waited for the explosion that would come after the hit.

'' Get me a sitrep.''

General Jameson sat in front of a steaming cup of coffee and a map. Soldiers often joked about an officer with a map but when things got really tough, Jameson resorted to what he'd done in '' the good ole days '', before all the fancy system.

A man walked in and placed a folder on the table. The General opened it, spreading the papers. Their were photos, data from weapons, radio transcripts. Basically, it was an overview of the last half hour in many different forms.

''We've lost several cruisers and many aircraft sir, but we've done a fair bit of damage.''

A satellite photo told that tale. It showed the Naashian fleet, smoke rising from a couple of ships. Another photo showed a different tale. Two F/A 16s, blown to pieces in mid air, wreckage falling to the ocean.

The General took a sip from his coffee.

'' What of the air battle.''

'' Take a look at pages 7,8 and 9.''

The General did, reading from the transcripts.

Foxtrot Alpha 12: '' Engaging numerous bandits, won't hold on much longer.''

Foxtrot Alpha 17: '' Bagged one, running low on ammo though.''

Charlie 6: '' Been hit, going down .''

The man who had passed him the pages spoke.

'' Based on radio transmissions and visuals, you know, that place outside of this room where the sun shines.''

The man paused and smiled. The General smiled back, finding his joke slightly less funny.

'' It appears were all tangled up. We're taking losses, quite a few I might add. Due to the confusion however, were managing to take out quite a few bandits. With our CIWS now more focused on the aircraft, we're begining to make a bit of a comeback.''

The General again sipped from his coffee.

'' So things are looking a bit better then.''

'' Aye, not by much though.''

The General was actually pleased. Although he'd taken quite heavy losses in this operation, most which by Orbathian standard were considered unacceptable, He felt he could convince Mr. Defense Minister otherwise. He could see his promotion coming already. Jameson wasn't greedy though. This operation would benefit many sectors of the military. He was going to recommend a big increase for the air force. The pilots had been doing a hell of a job so far.

"Time to withdraw I think, before we get cut to ribbons..."

The remainder of the Naashan fighters were quick to disengage, the more nimble F-40's fighting a rearguard action as the rest of the flight escaped back into the range of the missiles of the Naashan outer picket.

A young naval officer was quite excited by this.

'' What are our losses.''

The naval officer calmed himself and answered.

'' We haven't got a full count yet, we won't know until the aircraft start landing but it looks like around 20 sir.''

General Jameson wasn't happy. He needed every bit of strength he had and it was slowly being taken away.

'' As soon as those aircraft hit the deck get them refueled and rearmed.''

'' Yes, sir .''

'' Get us another volley of missiles going would you.''

'' Yes sir.''

With the orders given, missiles began to launch from the tubes once again. Their was less of a mixture this time, they decided to focus more on anti shipping missiles, directed towards the enemy cruisers and carrier.

As the decimated fighters of the carrier air group returned to the decks of the two carriers, the rest of the carrier group was splitting into two distinct groups. While the carriers and their immediate escorts hung back, the majority of the group, including the two Dauntless Class battleships headed to block the enemy invasion fleet.

If the enemy really wanted to press an amphibious assault then they would have to go through the guns of the Naashan fleet.

This was the General's worst nightmare. He had hoped he would be able to get the invasion force close without being noticed. That didn't look promising. It did, however, give Task Force Bravo a much better chance at defeating the enemy.

'' Are the aircraft fueled yet?''

''Almost sir.''

''Ok, as soon as their fueled I want them loaded out. Have them attack the battleship group. It appears that the majority of the defenses have been left with the carriers so we have a better chance of doing some damage.''

''Oh, and direct more volleys at the carriers and their escorts.''

Task Force Bravo

The ships opened up with volleys of anti shipping missiles. The missiles were targeted towards the carriers rather than their escorts.

The aircraft had been fueled and ready to go. They began taking off from the carrier deck, 24 in all. Those that were in the air first waited for the rest to join them before they headed in two groups towards the battleship group.

1st Carrier Group

As the enemy missile launches were detected on radar, more fighters were being scrambled off the decks, a total of six F-40's managed to launch from the Valiance, which had been less involved in the previous air assault. As the next aircraft took their places on the decks of the two carriers however, the enemy anti-shipping missiles started to rain down on the large vessels.

CIWS tracer rounds and RIM-116 missile rushed up from the decks to greet them, tearing into the salvoes of Orbathian missiles but making further launches impossible lest the fighters be chewed up by their own side's defenses. The decks of the Undaunted took two direct missile hits, completely ending flight operations from the carrier while the control tower aboard Valiance was struck by a missile fragment blown aside by CIWS, severely hampering the flight control crews efforts.

As the rain of missiles began to subside and a counter attack began to be organised, the E-2 AWACS aircraft spotted the enemy flight headed toward the surface attack group. With no more aircraft available while the carriers were pinned down, the six scrambled F-40 fighters joined up with the four of the CAP and throttled toward the inbounds.

Surface Attack Group

With a bellowing crash, the guns of the Pride of Naasha unleashed their first salvoe of shells onto the incoming invasion fleet. Her sister ship, the Pride of Surdun lagged behind the battle group, listing a little and with her missile systems gone, struggling to get into gun range of the enemy. The six Type-23 Duke Class frigates of the escort switched to their sea to air radar modes, forewarned of the enemy arrival by the AWACS.

It was fortunate that the enemy aircraft had been spotted so far off, as the ten F-40 Birds of Prey were able to come in at high altitude, practically invisible at this range thanks to their stealthy design and the tempting seaborne targets ahead of and below them. Knowing that their stealth advantage was temporary, the ten aircraft locked up their leading counterparts and unleashed a wave of Meteor BVRAAM's at their numerically superior foes.

"Sir, The Naasahian and Orbath fleet have engaged each other. Do you have any orders for our fleet?" Ask Generals Dions assistant. The General sat staring out his office window. He assessed the situation to himself. This is nothing like anything the Royal military has ever done, he pondered. "No." he said plainly. Waving his assistant away he turned his attention back to the coastline. His assistant nodded and walked out o the room and left the General to think.

Reports had come in that their missile salvos were quite effective. Therefore they continued, dozens of missiles directed towards the carriers.

In The Air

The F-40s had gone unnoticed but their missiles launch had not. 6 F/A 16 Priests broke off from the group. The launched several AIM-7 missiles and then chaff. The aircraft in the formation also launched chaff.

The rest of the group still continued in flight. They launched several TACTIT RAINBOWS at the Pride of Surdan which they were told was lagging behind. They continued their approach, waiting to unleash their next set of weapons.

Carrier Group

No more missiles got significant hits now that the defenses onboard the carrier escorts were fully prepared, the vessels had now tightened up in order to better cover the airspace in which the missiles were coming from. In the heat of battle, helicopters were taking off from the carriers and tender ships, frantically re-supplying defensive missiles and CIWS ammunition to escorts that had been depleted by all the action they'd seen.

During a brief lull in the action, a return salvoe of Harpoon missiles surged into the air, headed straight back to the Orbathian fleet, trying to disrupt or take out their missile carrying ships.

Surface Attack Group

Fortunately for the F-40 pilots and unfortunately for the Orbathians, the AIM-7 Sparrow missiles they were using required the pilots to hold radar lock for the duration of the flight. Chaff would be ineffective if the aircraft didn't maneouvre away from the missiles and to turn effectively would be to break the missile lock. With the AIM-54 missiles closing in, the enemy pilots were left with a choice, stick to their guns and try to down a few enemy pilots with them or pull away and save themselves.

Down on the surface, the Pride of Surdun bravely took several missile hits, unable to turn to avoid them. The thick armour belt of the Dauntless Class battleship saved many lives but the ship was now listing badly and unable to fire, any more hits and she was as good as sunk.

The remainder of the surface attack group closed ranks, the Pride of Naasha continuing to range her guns and now her Harpoon missiles as well onto the enemy landing fleet while her six escorts launched up Sea Wolf missiles to tackle the incoming fighters.

Invasion Group

The force was now being felt across the invasion group. Although they had helicopters and aircraft capable of intercepting the missiles, most of the shells made it through. Things were looking very bad. Two Wasp Classes had been damaged as well as two cruisers.

In The Air

The 6 F/A-16 Priests would stick to their guns. They did not try to avoid the missiles and rather tried to ensure that their AIM-7s would hit the target. This worked, to some degree as three of the F/A -16 Priests were blindsided by the missiles and torn to shreds.

The remaining aircraft, 18 in all saw that the Pride of Surdan was not looking good. To ensure it would never be used again, two bunker buster missiles were fired at it, in areas on the hull where smoke or fire could be seen.

After this, the group of 18 broke into groups of 6, changing altitudes and directions of approach, each coming at the other battleship a slightly different way. The fighters then launched a mixture of BLU-109 penetrator bombs, TACTIT RAINBOWS and GBU- 28 Bunker Busters. The TACTIT RAINBOWS were targeted more towards the cruisers, which appeared to still be tied up launching missiles.

Task Force Bravo

The missiles that had been pouring out stopped. Harpoon missiles had been detected and ships began trying to defend themselves. The attack however, had come as a suprise. A cruiser was sunk and another slightly damaged.

Carrier Group

As the rain of enemy missiles faltered, probably due to lack of ammunition as much as anything the Naashans had to throw at them, a few of the specialised missile escorts kept up a small but continuous flow of projectiles headed off toward the enemy, hopefully disrupting further aircraft launches.

The respite from enemy missiles also allowed the NNS Valiance to begin launching reinforcements to protect the surface group. Under direction from the undamaged tower aboard her sister carrier, the Valiance began launching further F-40's into the sky.

Below the waves, the enemy submarines HAD been forgotten about in the turmoil but they had lost the perfect moment to strike now that the Carrier Group had reformed with a single picket. The torpedo launches were unable to penetrate the ring of escorts and countermeasures around the two carriers, although they did hit and disable one of the lighter patrol craft.

While ASW helicopters once again lifted off the decks of the destroyers, the enemy submarines that had given away their positions with torpedo launches were already being targeted by ASROC's.

Surface Attack Group

The Pride of Surdun took several more hits, her own CIWS ineffective against the hail of missiles. The ship was well and truly beyond saving now, the simulators onboard were directing the crew to abandon 'flaming' portions of the ship while all operations beside damage control were abandoned.

The Pride of Naasha maneouvred quickly to evade some of the lofted enemy projectiles, but the bombs that were launched on diving attacks were harder to evade. One of the penetrators detonated inside an armour cavity while another penetrated a rear ammunition loading system, thankfully avoiding the magazine itself.

While the escorts CIWS chewed on the enemy missiles, Sea Wolf and Sea Sparrow SAM's were deployed against the enemy fighters that employed bombs, targeting them as they were vulnerable in their diving attacks. One escort took a hit from a RAINBOW, losing its radar, but the loitering missiles were easily picked off by the shipboard weapons for the most part.

Meanwhile, in the sky the F-40's had taken one hit from the outdated Sparrow missiles, now they chased the remaining three enemy fighters tasked against them. These would be downed using AMRAAM's and IR missiles, once that shield was down, the enemy strike fighters could be targeted.

The Task Force continued to be fired upon although thankfully, managed to escape being hit this time. They knew the invasion group was almost in place. The cruisers targeted the other carrier.

Submarines

The counter attack was just too much. Almost every sub had taken some kind of hit. Those that could, tried retreating but most were destined to remain on the bottom of the ocean.

Invasion Group

The Invasion Group had finally made it. From where they were they could begin launching their forces onto the beach. From the Wasp Classes cam hundreds of Terrier IFVs. From the decks of the ships lifted off C-78s, UH-47s and Blackhawk helicopters. Each of them carried troops, destined to be inserted beyond the beach.

In The Air

The aircraft had launched they payloads and now attempted to flee. They were being engaged by a growing amount of aircraft.
