A Whole New World - Kroando Opens Borders [Open]
Address to the World
Kroando Opens Up
http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/605/greecerel96ou7.jpg
Greeting Fellow Nations. For much of the last century Kroando has been an isolated power with minimal contact with the outside world. Besides minute expeditions in colonialism, sporadic diplomatic communiques and the occassional theoretical dispute, Kroando has for the most part, remained secluded, hidden from the world's eye. We believe that it is time for the rest of the world to see our rather... unique way of life. And so it is that we welcome foriegn representatives to come for a comprehensive tour of our fine nation, to expirience an 'unimaginable existance'.
Due to the extreme circumstances that our nation operates under, we shall dispatch a single Luxury Global Cruise Liner to pick up the guests from around the world, as it is simply immpossible for you to arrive on your own account. The Luxury Global Cruise Liner, the TSS Armas shall leave the port City of Scolar (the only port in Kroando) in the next few days, and return in exactly seven months, filled with foriegn nationals, representatives and diplomats. All expenses are to be paid, and the tour of the nation shall last exactly four months, at which time the guests shall be escorted back to their places of origin.
We strongly recommend all guests dress warmly, for it is known to be a tad bit nippy during the year.
INFO: Kroando is an island nation near the world's south pole, with the climate, geography and landscape to match it. The temperature is a steady negative thirty (F) on average, with the occassional drop to below fifty (F) and plus twenty. There are seemingly endless winds which blow snow to and fro year round... and the snow which falls seems to do so without end. The ground is frozen solid... and usually under over three hundred feet of ice and compact snow. Additionally, the island nation is surrounded on all sides by over 120km's of ice sheet (on average - in one area, near Scolar, the ice only extends 60km's). This ice sheet is in some areas as thin as thirty meters, and others, as thick as 300 meters. Scolar, is kept sealed by this ice sheet, however can be opened by coastal artillery bombardments. No foriegn nationals have set foot in the nation in over fourty years, and the only Kroandon's to leave are members of the military, diplomats, wealthy industrialists and colonists. Kroando is a extremely secluded and unique nation, none other than those on the tour know anything about it, other than the fact that it is a cold hunk of ice. Satellite's have revealed one thing. There are lots of thick, dense, frozen clouds which obstruct most sun light.

Edge of the Antartikan Ice Sheet
Captain Vincent Mondor took in a deep breath, the chilling air literally freezing the water vapor inside his nostrils. His thick thermal leather trench coat, was lined in frost, his eyes invisible, due to them being covered by the standard black 'Frost Visors' of Kroando. The 'Frost Visors', or so they were called inside the country, were actually domestically produced black goggles (http://wildilocks.com/webstore/images/large_blackframe.jpg), designed to keep the area of the eye sealed from the outside environment. Should the eyes be exposed to the extreme cold of Kroando for over ten minutes, the eyes will freeze over, rendering the person blind.
Mondor turned to the Mokastanan Delegate, Charles Villa, smiling as the warm-weathered man stood shivering in the sub zero temperatures of Antartika. "Do you see now why we wanted your island?", Mondor chuckled again before looking out over the massive ice sheet before them. Five meters above the water, it extended twenty five meters more below. The European Author, Nancy Helps approached the two men, teeth chattering. "How in bloody hell are we to reach the mainland? We certainly aren't walking!", shouted the woman in her thick English accent. "Patience mam... you will see."
http://www.auroraexpeditions.com.au/images/img_antarctica.jpg
And like a far off thunderstorm, rumbles could be heard in the distance... and within the minute, fire like none other fell upon the ice sheet. The massive 806mm Rail Guns positioned in Scolar, the only port city of Kroando, opened up, dumping 700lb High Explosive shells on the ice. At first craters only appeared, but before long the barrage was joined by 240mm rounds, and even 155mm rounds... within twenty five minutes, a mile wide stretch had been cleared, with large floating chunks sitting in the flaming river. "Full ahead Mr. Dawns! We haven't much time before that bastard freezes over!" And the massive ship pushed into the gap, heading straight for Scolar, the first of the Great Mega-Cities they were to encounter... from the distance, massive walls could be seen... well over 250 meters high...

Peter Winchester was convinced he had got a raw deal.
Standing on the deck of the TSS Armas, shivering in the barbaric sub-zero temperatures despite the masses of clothing he had wrapped around his torso and legs, Winchester tried to think back as to whether he had done anything to anyone that would have caused him to be sent on such a long, arduous and cold journey to examine a country that he had never even heard of. It was, he concluded sourly, because of his Modashu heritage, the native population of the Cynapsian island. "First the English, then the Nazis," he mused, looking across the frozen wastelands of Antartika. "Now the Communists."
Once a starry-eyed Socialist convert, brought in by promises of equality and advancement, the sour-faced Winchester had soon become disenchanted at what he believed to be discrimination based on his ethnic background, in comparison to the mostly white, English-descended population. Not that he would dare to speak out - his job paid particularly handsomely, even if it was somewhat unimportant. And there was that Secretary he was nailing...
Winchester was shaken out of his reverie by a loud whistling. Looking up, he caught his breath as a sheet of fire slammed into the ice in front of the Ocean Liner. His two guards, a pair of Cynapsian Red Army Infantry, gripped their rifles tightly in surprise, and Winchester cast them a pitying glance. "What're they going to do?" he thought disparagingly. "Shoot it?"
He turned back as the vessel began moving forward through the broken ice. Winchester leant against the guardrail, his thick winter clothing preventing him from freezing to the bar, and watched the broken ice sheet floating away in either direction. His curiosity was intrigued now - that level of firepower was fascinating, and he would make notes later on that day. The Kommissariat of Foreign Affairs had instructed him to make notes on the country in any area deemed interesting or possible whenever the opportunity arose to do so for the purposes of intelligence. Winchester smiled, licking his lips. He could smell a promotion in this.

Its too fucking cold...
Charles Villa was a aging man of 46, but thanks to years of civil war he was by no means out of shape. His large fur coat did little to help him keep warm. The island of Mokastana was tropical, heat radiated from every crack and crevice, and now he was in the arctic visiting the people that displaced thousands of his fellow Mokans.
"Do you see now why we wanted your island?" Mondor chuckled
"yeah i do. Just out of curiosity but what kind of idiot decided to make this a country?"

Ice Channel - 400 Meters before Walls of Scolar
Captain Mondor looked to the Mokastanan, tightening the thermal jacket around his torso. "Well, our last homeland is some three miles under the Pacific Ocean... so in comparison...", Mondor picked up the microphone hooked up to the loud speakers all around the ship. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are now approaching the first of the Eight Cities of Antartika, Scolar." Everyone aboard could see the massive walls, 250 meters high, made of various layers of steel and concrete. Their thickness was equally impressive, some eighty meters wide, with missile emplacements every so often. However the obvious defences were just the tip of the iceberg. No pun intended. Anti-Missile Systems were located within, ontop and behind the walls, as were large calibre Anti-Shipping Guns. However as the ship continued, it seemed as if it were to collide with this massive wall.
Karl Godfrey, one of the many guests approached Mondor. "Captain! We are on a crash course with that wall! What in God's name are you doing." The Captain smiled as he looked back at the man. "Patience my good friend. Patience." And with that Mondor picked up the radio and spoke into it in some Kroandon dialect familiar only to those from Greater Malthus City. Seconds later the massive walls began moving, as several hundre ton hydraulic and mechanical systems began cranking, opening the 'gates to the city'. And so the ship continued onward, the Kroandon Marines aboard the ship moving about to prepare for docking.
As this ship came into port, the massive harbor was now exposed, with hundreds of ships moving about. However this was not in the least the most obvious change. The negative thirty degree weather the men had previously endured changed to something of plus twenty, as they moved deeper into the city, this temperature would increase to plus thirty, thirty five at the warmest area of the city.
Scolar - Port City of Kroando
As the day went on the men were taken via limosene from the cruise ship to the 'Energy Plant'. At first it seemed like a rather normal institution. A large eight story building surrounded by tall metal fences and dozens of armed guards. The limosenes parked, and unloaded, the guests promptly being taken inside to a warm seventy degree, climate controlled building. "As you can imagine, we save millions in air conditioning costs.", Marshall Garnos commented to the crowd of tourists as they were taken through the extensive security checkpoints, everything short of a strip search being performed.
"As you all have probably noticed, the city is comparably warm to the outside. Additionally, the entire city... well, it operates. How in God's name could a city of 850,000,000 people live in a single city? There are more people in this city than many of your countries... well, it takes a large sum of power.", Garnos walked through the cooridor, identifying various departments, untill finall a large series of elevators were reached. The tour group was divided up and taken down, each elevator containing four guests and two guards. They traveled down for no lest then fifteen minutes, as they passed through over a mile of steel, concrete, iron, rock, and of course, hundreds of meters of sub-surface apartment complexes and water plants.
Finally the elevators came to a hault. As they were escorted out, they were reunited, Marshall Garnos identifying various objects around the area. Pointing to a large metal pipe, over four meters high and three meters wide, "As we all know, nuclear power has the side effect of massive heating. We use this heat to our advantage. The near frozen water running through these pipes is heated to near-boiling temperatures and dispersed throughout the city. As the group continued through the hallways, they were shown nuclear reactors... scores of nuclear reactors. "There are two hundred and eighty Helic-7 Nuclear Power Plants throughout this complex... it consumes several tons of uranium per day.", Garnos continued walking, letting this immpressive statistic sink in. "There are three of these complexes in the city."
Day - 2 - Departure from Scolar
After being treated to a stay in the finest resort in the city, where many of the largest CEO's, bankers and government officials resided, they were taken to 'The Station'. A massive subsurface 'train station' some three hundred meters under the frozen earth of Scolar. "Before we leave the city... any questions?"
Daniel Tedas was amazed by the wonders of this country. He never could have imagined that a thriving city or even nation could exist down here. Even inside the heated city he was cold, his parka held tight to his body. It never got below 70 degrees in Akronis, and no matter how many places he worked at he would neevr get used to such temperatures. It was times like these he missed the humidity and mosquitoes. "How do you get all the uranium you need for all that nuclear power? It takes so long for ships to get here, certainly it takes a long time for trading? And what about the nuclear waste?" These were only a few of the questions he had. He was already planning the energy-trading deal in his head.
And the city itself was incredible. Aside from all the ice this was like a normal city. You could fit all of Akronis many times in this place, including the maritime claims. "How long did it take to build this city?"
Ironfield was very interested in how the Kroandoans(or whatever they are called), had built entire cities in this frozen wasteland. It was a massive and awe-invoking work of engineering. Of course, there were settlements back in the Antarctic Ocean Colony, but they were mcuh smaller, and less complex.
It seemed that Kroando, like the Kiravian Empire, was a civlization based upon the use of science and technology to adapt to new living conditions. The largest Kiravian city in a polar climate, though, was Iceport, with 1 million people. But this, Scolar, was titanic! It went beyond the terms "supercity" and "megacity" that non-Kiravian urbanographers used so liberally, into the realm of "übercity". True, it was larger than some of the nations here. Not the Empire, with 3 billion, but a few of the smaller ones.
"Sir, I too, have a question. How does this city, with such a massive population, sustain itself in food? Surely this country has little arable land. Do you use hydroponics or some other alternative means of agriculture?"
Subsurface Station - Scolar
"Ah, excellent question. Importing and material of necessity is clearly not an option for us, as the risk of the shipment being lost, or simply the time it would take, is to great. If this frigid hell hole has one thing, it is uranium. Well, uranium and coal. But anyways, there is a massive uranium depsoit some two hundred miles to the north, a deposit being mined by over 340,000 workers non-stop. This site fuels not only Scolar, but Virticon City and portions of several others.", Garnos paused. "The nuclear waste is currently being stored in subsurface, sealed, vaults in the middle of the Ice Desert to the East. However we are currently planning alternatives." The final question was a great one. "Construction began in 1909... the walls were completed but two years ago. However this city is but one of eight... it is one of the smaller ones."
Garnos only smiled at Ironfield's question. "Excellent question. It will be answered when we arrive in Greater Malthus... in approximately two days. I hope your curiosity can wait."
"It certainly can, sir. I am quite eager to see, nonetheless. I must say, that from the small glimpse of Korandan culutre I have seen, that it is, indeed, impressive beyond ready comparison."
The Royal Consul felt his jaw drop. "If this is small... Akronis is but an atom. This city could house 100 times the population of Akronis and still have considerable room. I am in awe of the incredible size of this place."
(OOC- I retract my previous statement about being able to fit Akronis in the city... unless the city can fit 1,100 square miles of land plus martime claims.)
[Scolar is slightly less the size of Maine. It is literally a ultra-high-density city from inch to inch, with the city expanding in all directions.]
Scolar - Enroute to Greater Malthus City
"We are currently a half kilometer under the surface, traveling at roughly 95km/hour.", Garnos spoke to the group, all stationed in one of the few luxury cars on the massive train. "The Eight Mega-Cities are connected through the massive underground tunnels you are currently in. These tunnels each can run at any time nine rail lines... transporting goods, people and materials at a non-stop rate." Garnos paused, interupted by the question of one of the various Europeans.
"Ehm... why dont you just... build roads?", asked the young German, invoking Garnos' iron glare. "Because the sucess rate for an automobile reaching Virticon City from Scolar is 1/400. Blizzards like none your nation has ever seen are nearly non-stop in the great wastes between the Mega Cities... blizzards that change the landscape so that a road would dissapear and never be seen again. Blizzards such that would blow a four ton pick up off the road and drop it a mile away. Blizzards such that-", Garnos, now rather frustrated with the German's ignorance paused. "Blizzards such that life cannot survive." Garnos then sat down for the remainder of the ride, allowing the telescreens infront of every seat to display various facts about Kroando.
Fact. Antartika is rich in uranium, iron and coal, with minimal oil reserves. The coal is synthetically transformed into oil, with small percentages being used for heating. The majority of heating is electric, the power coming from the massive nuclear generators below each city.
Fact. The 'Junkers Corporation' is one of the most profitable in Kroando. The Junkers possess considerable naval forces, and travel the world harvesting scrap metal, condensed trash, waste, and now, various goods. They take whatever it is they collect, bring it back to Kroando, and sell it to the government for considerable profit. The 'trash' is used in a highly effective manner, and is often just thrown into the recycle system.
Fact. Kroando produces 0 ounces of waste per year. All trash is processed and reused through a massive national, manditory recycling system. Anything you can think of is in some way, reused. For example, all paper products are remade into newspapers, paper bags, paper cups, toilet paper or insulation. Paper products which cannot be reused in such a manner are shredded and condensed into 'Burn Blocks'. 'Burn blocks' are extremely condensed blocks of paper and other such materials, which, when lit, burn for well over thirty minutes. They are usually placed in barrels and burned for 'warmth stations' around the city, or used to heat buildings via furnaces in the poorer areas of the cities. All biological waste is either used in creating fuel for heating, or used in synthetic fuel.
The telescreen flickered off as the train slowed to a halt, as did the lights of the train car for a moment, before coming back on in full force. "We are now in Greater Malthus... please, if you would all follow me, we are on a tight schedule."
Greater Malthus City - Agricultural Sector
After a brisk walk through Greater Malthus, the group had been introduced to the 'heating station'. A heating station is a house-sized building with large heating coils wrapped around the top of the building. These coils emmit extreme heat, which can be felt a story below on the ground level, and keep the temperature of the city far higher than it would be. Inside it is far warmer, usually around 60 degrees, where people can stop and warm up should they be exhausted and frozen. This would be a common area for bums, however such unemployed peoples are shipped off to labor camps in the wastes.
Once in the agricultural sector, the tour group was shown the massive subsurface green houses. The bright lights which fed the plants were of course, fed by the nuclear generators in the city, and constantly watered. Additionally the plants were given extremely powerful fertilizers, that increased their growth rate 80%, and increased their overall size some 25%. The overall effect was simply more food, faster. Garnos took the group through one of the many green houses and showed them just how Kroando fed it's massive population. "This my friends, is a tomato.", Garnos picked up a fruit the size of a bowling ball, with a red color and showed it off, before showing equally large fruit of various persuasions.
They continued through the green houses into the animal growth sector. Now this was a highly cleaned up version of the animal sector, made to look 'pretty' for the guests. The group came to a window which overlooked a massive valley of cattle. Not just any cattle, but cattle locked in place with large metal clamps, and hooked up to various feeding tubes. Additionally there were IV's and waste disposal devices, the IV's pumping growth hormones and steroids into the animals non-stop. The waste disposal taking the cow shit and processing it into fertilizer which would then be used to grow the plants. The food the cattle were fed was a mixed formula which not only promoted maximum growth, but also contained a chemical which induced a desire to eat more. The cows grew ever so quickly, thus limiting their life spans significantly. After they reached a target weight, they were taken into the slaughter houses and processed into food.
Finally there was the Chemical Food Plant, which the tour group was show in detail. Synthetic food, chemical honey bars, food which was filled with vital nutrients, made in a pietry dish. The Synthetic Food Plants pumped off millions of bars a day, using minimal resource for maximum product. "Tastes like shit, but it keeps our poorer populace satisfied... questions?"
"THis is astounding!", exclaimed Ironfield," Using Ott-lamps, for subterranean farming, synthetic food for the poor, all produced underground by nuclear power. Truly amazing. Although I find your animal production methods questionable, man must have meat, after all. How many people can this particular agricultural unit feed?"
Greater Malthus City - Agricultural Sector
Marshall Garnos looked over his palm pilot, apperantly pulling up the information. "This particular unit... feeds 25% of Greater Malthus... or... 200,000,000 people."
"Though your treatment of livestock is... curious... I suppose normal circumstances don't apply for cities with populations greater than that of the United States. But this is by far the most efficient place I have ever seen... who was the mastermind behind all of this?" Tedas looked around, taking it all in. He would have a lot of reccomendations for his government... he would have to ask later if it would be legal to do so.

OOC: First off, good call on that auction thread. I'm totally exhausted and not thinking right now. I traced the last possible bid to ten trillion. Much better than 250 and an economic death sentence...It would have also drained the bank accounts of my private sector. What I'm kicking myself for is not seeing it. That, and my overzealousness in finding a secluded island. Been looking for one for a long time for thread options/corporate HQ

With your permission, the Dominion would like to open discussion with the nation of Kroando on a possible exchange of embassies. We offer prime real estate in First City, our Capital, in Embassy Row just minutes from the Government Complex.
As with all allies, it would also render your nation eligible for honorary membership to the United Defense Directorate, a technology based alliance that seeks to maintain healthy diplomatic relations and prefers to negotiate, rather than fight. However, our weapons industry is quite advanced and we are willing to negotiate trade should the point come up.
Despite first impressions, we urge you to consider our offer seriously.

Charles Villa who had been to cold to talk all this time finally spoke up
"if everything is nuclear powered then what about the radiation, we all know that water used in nuclear power plants becomes radiotactive, how do you control that?"
Corporate Ventures
22-09-2007, 05:56
A relatively small but active Nation, the Republic of Corporate Ventures, had also responded favorably to Kroando's invitation, and the main governing corporation had hired a Foriegn Markets and Affairs Anylsts Corporation agent to represent their interests in the Nation. She was a polite but severe young Aunnaki (main ethnicity of the RCV) woman by the name of Gethneca M'ta, and kept her hair in a tight bun.
Accompanying her was the CEO of Utopia Works, Inc., a curious individual name Benezi, or just Ben. Ben happened to be a robot, in white platic and khaki latex, with a toy-like appearance, and large solid blue eyes. Ben didn't represent the governing corporation of the RCV, but was well respected and came with considerable recomendation.
As the tour of Greater Malthus city progressed, Ms. M'ta asked, in English tainted by her Lexiconic accent, "I understand the Kroando is remarkably effecient in it's resource management, but I must ask- in such a harsh enviroment, is their any surplus in goods? Materials which can be traded and sold to other Nations?"
"200 million people! Each district of this city could very well be its own nation! With such a huge population, and such a mechanized manufacturing and agriculture sector, what do most Kroandans do to support themselves?
Greater Malthus Tour
"All very good questions, all of which will be answered...", Garnos spoke, taking in the multitude of inquiries at once. "Lets see, we shall begin with Mr. Tedas' question. The designer of Scolar, the first of the Eight Cities was General Harzon II, who initiated the ideas of sub-surface living, farming and growth in general. However no one person can be given credit for the master piece that is modern life in Antartika. It is the work of generations of craftsmen, scientists, laborers, architects and technicians the world over."
The Marshall turned to the next question, that of Mr. Villa and his inquiry into the radiation from the power plants. "Mr. Villa, we are not sure what sort of nuclear power plants are running in Mokastana, but in Kroando, there is no radioactive release from the plants. They are sealed off a hundred times over from the rest of the city... the radioactive waste is taken care of in the most careful manner... but other than that... there is no problem with radiation." [RL nuclear power plants only use water to cool off... and the water which is used is not radioactive afterwards, it is just hot. I think you may have gotten your facts mixed up.]
Garnos continued, looking at Ms. M'ta. "One of Kroando's leading industries is that of heavy machinery and industrial goods... however due to our specific environmental situation, it is rather difficult to get our product onto the open market. Products such as pipes, steel beams, construction materials... all produced domestically. Our economy has survived because the demand has been so high over the last century... what with the non-stop growth of the cities. However by far the main money maker comes in the form of Arm Manufacturing, and steel exports. We are a heavily industrialized nation producing massive quantities of product."
"And finally, Mr. Ironfield... the major occupation of most Kroandon's is in that of assembly line manufacturing. Over 45% of the population works in a factory of some sort, be it in the molding of bolts, smelting, the production of tanks... as you may have noticed, we dwell around metal. Additionally, roughly 22% of the population works in the civil service, either in agriculture, water production, resource mining or the recycling industry."
Harzon Ice-Wastes Facility - 250kms North of Greater Malthus
"IF YOU WOULD ALL FOLLOW ME! AND BE SURE TO STAY CLOSE!", Garnos shouted at the top of his lungs, his voice being taken away in the massive winds which covered the exit of the tunnel station. As the group stepped off of the train, the icey air hit them all. As they marched forward, they trudged up the snow covered steps and into The Wastes. The snow was blown at astounding speeds by the winds as Garnos tightened his coat and trudged through the three foot deep snow. Over thirty five armed guards escorted the group forward, making sure none were blown off the trail. The temperature clocked in at -65 (F)
After a walk of some twenty meters, twenty meters that felt like two hundred, they made it into a massive opened garage-door-like entrance. The entrance was marked by a bright orange light that nearly blinded all infront of it, the light however was blocked off for the most part once one entered the building. The temperature inside the hanger was mildly better at -20, but comfortable to none, not even the Kroandons whom worked here. As the group briskly walked through the massive orange lit hanger, one could only notice the massive amounts of machinery inside. Massive bulldozers, the size of small houses sat scattered around the massive room, as did various snowmobiles, tracked vehicles and other pieces of equipment foriegn to all those whom did not live in Kroando. Additionally there were scores of men working in the hanger, repairing machinery, fueling up the dozers, moving equipment or in general, keeping busy. These men were equipped in the standard Kroandon Artik-Gear, the thick thermal suites being insulated many times over, their faces invisible, as they were hidden behind gas masks and black goggles, their heads first covered by thermal skull caps, then snow caps, then the suit head cover, and finally the thick hood's which went overtop.
Finally, after the two hundred yard walk across the hanger, they came into the main part of the building, which was heated as well as it could be... the inside steadying out at around 40 degrees. This complex was not inside any city, and housed two small nuclear generators, as well as multiple furnaces, fire places and coal ovens. As they moved through the building, Garnos identified various facts. -The Harzon Facility houses 200,000 civilian workers, 650,000 criminal laborers, and 10,000 armed guards.-
The first portion of the tour began at the iron mines. "Several thousand tonnes of raw iron are pulled out of these mines daily... the iron is shipped in it's raw form to Tevlar, where it is melted down and transformed into steel." Garnos continued, taking the people to the most interesting portion of the facility. "One interesting lack of a question was that of where our water comes from... well, here it is.", Garnos stated as the group entered a large glass room which overlooked a massive... massive field of snow. Thousands upon thousand of acres in all direction, covered in dozens of feet of snow... snow which never seemed to stop falling. Additionally there were scores of those massive bulldozers pushing the snow towards the building, into large rectangular holes in the ground. As the snow fell into these holes, it was blasted with jets of flame, melting it into pure water. The water was then transported, via massive pipes, into the surrounding cities. Roughly 60% of Kroando's water came from sites like these all around the country, the remainder being pumped directly out of the ocean into desalinization plants, and being collected from the snow that falls inside the city itself.
As usual, Garnos paused and turned to the group, "Questions?"
Diplomatic Communique to The Dominion of Ruthless Slaughter
We would welcome an exchange of embassies between our nations. The only available plot we currently have is in Virticon City in the Sub-Terrain Diplomatic Sector. We hope it will fulfill your needs. As to the offer to join the UDD, we are currently re-emerging into the international scene, and do not believe it, at the present time, wise to join in a multi-lateral defense agreement. We shall however, keep your offer in mind.
[Ministry of Foriegn Affairs]
[No problem on the whole bidding thing, everyone gets caught up in whats going on once in a while.]

We gladly and gratefully accept the space and have now started preparing the land for your embassy as we speak. We do understand your reservations about commiting to a formal alliance, and will leave our doors open to you should you reconsider. In the meantime, if there is anything the UDD could render assistance with, you have but to ask.

"Now surely there must be some sort of question... am I to believe this is common practice in your nations as well?"

The Bredfordian ambassador, Winston Chadwik, stepped forward.
"We barely have snow in Bredford, and he is appearing only near the city of southport during the coldest time in the winter.
however, for our water, we are mainly pumping them out of the sea. it is estimated that around 12,250,000,000 litres of water are being pumped out of the ocean daily for civilian use only.
we have to mention that Bredford citizen uses around 30 litres of water per day, which means we have around 2,830,000,000 surplus water, which are all stored in big under-ground facilites.
however, the mineral water industry in Bredford is not using the surplus water, but rather is drawing water out of the many small lakes we have in Bredford.
they are not allowed to draw more water in a lake then %3 of it.
the last time that a mineral water company ("Pure Water Inc.") tried to draw %5 of a lake, the company was fined in $3 billion BRD credits (a little more then $4,620,000,000 USD), and in the end they were closed.
i guess you can see how seriously we treat our water. "
