2 - Transport

A - Cars
- LPG Conversion - $3600
The vehicle is converted to use Liquefied Petroleum Gas, a mix of propane and butane kept as a liquid under high pressure and low temperature. The replacement involves the insertion of larger fuel canisters, the changing of fuel hoses and valves, and the retuning of the engine to suit the fuel. Whilst running with much less knocking (108 EOR), the fuel has only 80% the efficiency of Petrol energy-wise, and the tanks require cryogenic equipment. Not recommended for use in hot climates.

- Ecogas Conversion - $3200
Ecogas is methane produced from the decomposition of organic matter in anaerobic digestors. With an even cleaner burn than LPG, the fuel is also carbon-neutral. Compression of the gas to convert it to liquid means thicker cylinders have to be used to transport the fuel, yet no cryogenic equipment is needed. Fuel tank size is approximately the same as a normal car, with pressures of 250 bar typically being used. Efficiency is only 60% of petrol per volume, but compression means that roughly the same range is produced. The same changes are provided for Ecogas conversion as LPG, though differing tuning and components mean the two fuels are not interchangeable.

- Hydrogen Combustion Conversion - $4900
With the lowest amount of energy per volume of all fuel gases, hydrogen needs to be stored at very high pressures to achieve reasonable range. Storage tanks extend into the trunk of the vehicle, with pressures of up to 280 bar being used to store the gas in palladium-lined tanks. However, hydrogen produces only water and some NOx in its exhaust, providing an amazingly clean burn, and can increase the overall power of the engine considerably compared to petrol. Price is high due to the palladium used in the construction of the linings of the vehicle, yet overall fuel price is still lower than equivalent-grade petroleum, allowing for the vehicle to 'pay for itself'.

B - Buses
- Fuel Cell Conversion - $35 000
The entire bus is converted to use Hydrogen fuel cells. This involves the complete removal of the engine unit for an electrical engine, and the conversion of fuel tank area to take large fuel cell units storing hydrogen. The bus can be recharged both by the replacement of hydrogen and the running of an electric current through the cell. Range is affected, but the bus runs completely silently without any production of carbon dioxide.

- Ecogas Conversion - $7200
The bus is converted to run on Ecogas, as with the car. Extra fuel tanks are used in the rear of the bus, providing similar range at the loss of some baggage space in the rear of the vehicle.

- LPG Conversion - $7600
The bus is converted to run on LPG, as with the car.

C - Boats
- Fuel Cell conversion - Depends on vessel
The vessel is converted to use large fuel-cell batteries, the turbine being ripped out in place of an electric motor. A very high price, but at the consequence the vessel is nearly silent, and produces no carbon dioxide.

- Ecogas Conversion - Depends on vessel
The vessel is converted like a car to run on Ecogas. This is more expensive depending on the fuel used aboard the ship: if fuel oil is used, then the engine will be completely removed in place of a new gas turbine, raising prices substantially. Ecogas allows for vessel engines to last for longer, and for the vessel to move at higher speeds. The consequence is that the vessel has a shortened range.

- Hydrogen Combustion Conversion - Depends on vessel
Similar to the Ecogas, except in the range being shorter, the potential speed being higher and the cost being higher.

D - Locomotives
- Fuel Cell Conversion - $80 000 Electric, $220 000 Diesel
The locomotive is converted to use fuel cells, charged either by hydrogen at stations or by electrical charge. Able to use both electrified tracks and normal tracks, though range is shorter compared to a diesel locomotive.

- Hydrogen Combustion Conversion - $210 000 Electric, $78 000 Diesel
The locomotive engine is converted to run on hydrogen. This provides a much higher potential speed and power compared to normal diesels, though range is shorter.

E - Commercial Aircraft
- Ecogas Conversion - $25 000
The aircraft wings are filled with the compressed gas containers where space is available, with cylinders also included inside the fuselage. Some space may be taken, and range is reduced. However, the fuel is carbon neutral and can reduce engine noise.

3 - Water

A - Output Control
- Factory-Outlet Filter - $15 000
As well as filtering common pollutants such as Nitrates, this unit also filters out mercury and other metals, and cools the water down to stop thermal pollution

- Sewerage outlet plant - $32 000
If your nation's sewerage processing is woefully inadequate, and pollution still occurs, this unit is perfect.
A large system, able to handle up to 14 000 litres a day, filters rubbish out, removes sediment and digests them, before sterilising it. Comes with a 5-star rated 3-level extraction system, that allows the sludge to be removed and bagged as fertiliser.

- Artificial Wetlands - $28 000 per hectare *Designed by Commonmilitirism*
For less polluted waterways, and for factory outlets that don't release toxic chemicals. Uses rushes and other water plants to filter the water. Provides an ideal home for rare wetland species, so can constitute a tourist attraction in the area.

B - Decontamination
- Water De-acidification Barge - $100 000 per year
If acid rain blights your nation, this may help. This barge releases alkaline substances into the water, neutralising it to its original pH. Intended to treat most lakes or river sections up to 50 miles.

- Water Decontamination Barge - $600 000 per year
The decontamination barge uses a four-stage system to clean a waterway. First, water is sucked into the unit alongside sand dredged up from the bed of the river or lake, with large pieces of rubbish filtered out on a constantly-emptied grate. The second stage uses a centrifuge to separate all matter from the water, in which the water is also supplied with additional oxygen. The third stage uses chemicals to eliminate common toxins from the water and slurry, which is passed through a secondary vibrating filter to separate the sand from any other items. The final stage sees the sand dumped back on the river bed after passing through a second filtration, with the water having the chemicals used in cleaning filtered out/neutralised before clean water is passed from the rear.

4 - Air Pollution Control

A -Output Control
- Factory Air stack filter - $28 000
Uses electrostatic plates in combination with chemical filters to remove particulate matter, sulphur dioxide, hydrocarbons, heavy metals and nitrous oxides. Percentage removed varies depending on exhaust gases, between 40% and 90%.

- C02 Trap - $40 000
Lime water is used to clear up to 80% of carbon dioxide from the chimney gases, producing Calcium Carbonate as a result. This can be further processed into Calcium Sulphate (Gypsum) for the construction industry.

B - Decontamination
- Anti-smog Air Processor - $180 000
A small structure that uses a large fan to suck in air, which is then filtered of pollutants before being ejected clean at the other end. Can clear up to a 200 metre radius of smog. Not recommended for use in areas where factory filtering is not considered to be introduced.

Alfegos
19-09-2007, 19:47
6 - Fuel
- Ethanol - $0.55 per litre
Due to company concerns to current "biofuel" trends, no biodiesel or biopetrol is stocked. Instead, the Ethanol stocked is produced from enzyme-based decomposition of cellulose. The ethanol is provided pure, so may need mixing with diesel or petrol to allow for use in most vehicles. Since power provided per litre is lower than standard petrol, it is not recommended for use in high performance vehicles.

- Ecogas - $0.45 per litre
Ecogas is a 90% Methane gas mix designed for replacement of standard natural gas. Whilst burning extremely cleanly in the engine (with very little soot produced), energy levels are lower per litre than with petrol. The methane is produced via the digestion of sewerage, farm waste and landfill by bacteria.

- Hydrogen - $0.70 per litre
Produced from GM algae and electrolysis of water, hydrogen is a powerful fuel with the highest energy-to-mass ratio of any gas. However, density issues mean that it has to be stored in high-pressure cylinder units. Can either be run through fuel cell systems (recommended for low performance cars), or be run directly through an internal combustion engine with modifications (recommended for high performance cars). The high price is due to the infancy of current Algae technology.

7 - Orbital Resources

Power Generation
- "Sol" Solar Power Station - $3.5 million per 100 m^2 of panels
This satellite is designed to use a Geosynchronous Orbit near the poles of the planet to capture sunlight, which is then transmitted to a receiver station using a MASER beam. The satellite uses the IRIS solar cell technology to convert 80% of all light that falls on the solar panels in electricity, fed into the main processing core that forms the heart of the satellite.
The satellite uses 16 rockets fed by compressed nitrogen to correct its orbit, meaning that it may have to be refuelled every decade to maintain orbit.
The average output of the solar panels provided per 100 m^2 is 2.7 MW.
Price does not include launch.

- Energy Receiver Station - $4.5 million
Using one massive receiving dish and large-scale power reconversion systems that cover an area of about 12 hectares, the energy receiver station is designed for use with the Sol satellite. The receiver is fully able to angle from 10 degrees to 90 degrees, and can track satellites if needs be.
Comes with a radio transmitter for the satellite to continuously make sure that the energy is focused only on the dish, so that no damage occurs to surrounding areas in case of atmospheric disturbance.

Orbital Clean-up
- Orbital Clean-up Satellite - $3 million
This satellite uses an array of systems on-board to actively track space junk in its orbit, and uses magnets and a large series of rocket boosters aboard the vehicle to collect and store up to 200 m^3 of debris, which it then compacts into a single package and fires back towards the earth over the middle of the ocean near no shipping routes and at least 500km away from land. Needs refuelling every 4 years, but can work almost autonomously.
Launch not included.

(OOC: I'm not an expert on the other themes, but your transport range prices are too low. $500 for a hydrogen fuel-cell modification is hardly possible, since in RL, the installation of an LPG tank and the required modifications costs $3000 already, and since Hydrogen technology is a whole lot more complex, it would cost a whole lot more. You would need to design a completely new engine (since the old one isn't designed to run on hydrogen) or you would need to modificate the old engine in such a way, that developing a new engine would be way cheaper to realise. Plus, hydrogen technology is expensive, which will probably make it cost more than $50,000 (realise that the BMW Hydrogen 7 has got a speculative worth of $2 million USD, when counting the research. In Material cost, it is worth $500,000.)
A Hybrid conversion is probably cheaper than a hydrogen conversion. Not more expensive. Buses don't cost $2000, even if it is just a hydrogen modification. For a new bus, you're looking at prices of around $900,000 when buying a complete hydrogen bus new. Conversions are, once again, very expensive. Biofuel conversions would also cost more, when it is a petrol engine. Diesel engines have less problems with running on biofuels (in fact, biofuels are already slowly being mixed into diesel for trucks and cars right now).

Just my two cents. Anyways, good luck with the storefront! ;)

A Special Message From The Griffincrest Corporation

*A gorgeous Lamboughini drives through a lush green forest as a female voice speaks*

Global warming is only a myth, a myth which we at the Griffincrest Corporation seek to end. Without oil, cars such as this would cease to exist, and many methods of transportation would soon be lost.

*Scene changes to forest fires, sick children, hurricanes, and riots*

The vehicles used by today's first responders would become seen as not friendly to the environment, and taken away. The result would be chaos.

*Birds chirping in a forest appear and a truck with the Griffincrest logo appears. Men wearing Griffincrest uniforms can be seen around the truck planting trees*

For every dollar that Griffincrest makes, a percent of that is given back to the environment, and another part goes to help feed starving children.

*Claudius Griffincrest appears on screen seated in his office and speaks*

So remember people, go Griffincrest, if not for you, do it for the environment and the children of the world.

*Griffincrest logo fills the screen and a deep voice speaks*

This has been a public service announcement

*Screen goes blank*

Good evening,
This is Boris Cruonis from the Ecotechnic Institute we are interested in offering some technology for your perusal. We can construct Artificial Wetlands for wastewater treatment, biorefineries from biomass feedstocks that produce biopolymers, pet food, personal care ingredients, ethanol and other biofuels, and green chemistry products. We believe biorefinery technology, living machine technology, green chemistry bioreactors may further your goals. We are interested in licensing this technology to Alfegos.

Splendid!

I wish to purchase all remaining shares of stock. The two hundred thousand shares [200,000], valued at $1864.21 per share, come to a grand total of $372,842,000. This money will be wired immediately from my personal account.

The listing should be placed under Mar'ki Ticron, not DMI or the Dominion. I have acquired these shares with my personal assets.

One last question, however, is whether the two hundred fifty thousand [250,000] shares owned by the two of us are the total number of shares or are there more unlisted?

We are going to ask $20 million for the rights to produce a cellulosic, and hemicellulosic biorefinery. This uses feedstocks from plant, animal, agricultural, and municipal wastes. The plant we are describing would produce annually, 20 million gallons of ethanol, 60,000 tons of lignin, 12,000 tons of gypsum, 20,000 tons of yeast. Unfortunately, it would also produce 70,000 tons of carbon dioxide which would be processed and stored. We would recycle the carbon dioxide to grow algae which would be fed into the process again to make more biofuel.

We are going to ask $3 million dolllars for the rights to produce Artificial Wetlands.

Regards,

Boris Cruonis, Principal

OOC: We would use the Greenfuel Technologies method of carbon mitigation to create additional feedstock for the plant. http://www.greenfuelonline.com/technology.html . The method we are using comes specifically from Bluefire Ethanol. http://bluefireethanol.com/technology/

OOC: would a nation be able to spend part (not all as I RP that at least 1/3-1/2 my budget pays for upkeep of equipment, and soldier's pay) of it's defense budget if they were looking to go completely green. I want to turn my nation more into the ever passive/neutral swiss-like people so a small, effective military is all I need. Do you happen to have any satellites for solar radiation collection and redistribution in the works? Do you accept payment from grants that were given from large nations? Karshkovia was granted $1 trillion Universal Standard Dollars recently by the Communist nation of Stoklomolvi (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13359191&postcount=94) and has over 900 billion left over for use in rebuilding its space program, though I was very swayed by the idea of going green. If I made a purchase, I may be looking at 500-600 billion total expenditures for the space program and 300-400 billion left over for use in going green.

Thanks in advance

For your benefiry, I will calculate the best packages for you, if you can give me the following information:
- Climate
- Tectonic activity
- Average amount of electricity consumed (in GW per hour)
- Number of private vehicles
- Number of public transport vehicles

As for a space-based system, that may be coming soon: whenever I have time)

Climate/Geography:
(Map of Karshkovia (http://myweb.cableone.net/bschott/Karshkovia_files/relief2.jpg))
With an area of 2.7 million square Kilometers (1.05 million square miles), Karshkovia shares large boarders of 6,846 kilometers with it's northern neighbor nation, 2,203 kilometers with it's western neighbor nation, and 379 kilometers with it's northeastern neighbor.

The Karshka Steppe, with an area of around 804,500 square kilometers, occupies one third of the country. The Steppe is characterized by large areas of grassland suitable for fair agriculture, with very fertile soil. The steppe is nicknamed "The green desert".

Important rivers include the Volga, the Krona, the Vyehegda and the Severnaya.

The country's only lake is Lake Trysh averages between 2 and 3 miles (3-5 km) in width and is 6 miles (9 km) wide at its widest point, and it empties into the river Trysh. The Rion Dam iis an earth embankment dam on the Trysh River located at the start of the river. Hydroelectric turbines at the dam have a generating capacity of 515 megawatts of electricity. Their average production is 240 megawatts, enough for several hundred thousand people.

The Rion Dam National Fish Hatchery is the world's largest walleye and northern pike producing facility and also works to restore endangered species, such as the pallid sturgeon which are poached for their eggs.

Facts:
* Maximum water storage: 23.8 million acre feet (29.4 km³)
* Maximum water depth: 180 ft (55 m) at the face of the dam
* Normal surface area: 307,000 acres (1240 km²)
* Normal length: 178 mi (286 km)
* Normal shoreline: 1320 mi (2120 km)

The eastern part of the country consists of the flat, Severnaya Valley, the bottom of the prehistoric glacial Lake Malov. It's fertile soil, drained by the meandering Severnaya River flowing southward into the Bay of Barnaul, supports a very large agriculture industry.

The western half of the state consists of the Karshka Mountains and "Badlands" just at the foot of the Karshka Mountains. The nation's highest point is Mount Vyoska, rising an impressive 5541 meters above sea level. The "Badlands" are abundant in fossil fuels, including crude oil (sweet and light sweet), and lignite coal. The Karshka mountains are abundant in mineral deposits including Gold, Silver, Manganese, Chrome Ore, Iron, Nickel Cobalt, Copper, Molybdenum, Lead, Zinc, Bauxite, and Uranium. All are found in rich, available quantities.

Karshkovia endures temperature extremes characteristic of it's continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The record low and high temperatures are -51.1°C and 49°C respectively. Meteorological events include rain, snow, hail, blizzards, polar fronts, tornadoes, thunderstorms and high-velocity straight-line winds.

Springtime flooding is a relatively common event in the Severnaya Valley, due to the Vogla and the Vyehegda emptying into the Severnaya. The spring melt and the eventual runoff typically begin swelling the rivers, taxing the Severnaya.

In the foothills of the Karshka Mountains, Geothermic activity is present with many hot springs and geysers used for recreation and relaxation. Earthquakes in the south-east are not common but are weak when they occur.

Average amount of electricity consumed
397.99 billion kWh per year

The Free Republic wishes to purchase the "Sol" Solar Power Station (3 million NS Standard Dollars), and the Energy Receiver Station (4 million NS Standard Dollars) for use to power our national capitol and the surrounding environs. Our national capitol of Nephi is surrounded by mountains, so this type of power plant would allow us to open up space to place more homes in Nephi.

7 million NS Standard Dollars will be wired to your account upon confirmation of this order, and we would also like to enquire about the price of a launch of the Sol Solar Power Station.

correction to my earlier post:

It looks as if my space program is going to cost about 340 Billion to start up and run due to some helpful nations. Thus I have 560 Billion left over for going green and if needed I can spend 1/2 my defense budget for the next three to five NSyears and all my economy budget to go green.

Quote from the Store:

Amount of energy used: 45.43 GW per hour
Best selection for the upgrading of your nation to Green energy:
- Dense wind farm, 4000 Hectares: 160 GW/h variable*, $520 million
- 10 Geothermal stations: 110 MW/h constant, $30 million
- 4000 Beaufort household Wind-turbines: 200 MW/h variable, $3.2 million
- 18 "Boundary" Hydroelectric dams: 720 MW/h constant, $36 million
- Hydrogen Update**: for 220 fossil-fuel stations, up to 4.2 GW/h constant, $880 million

TOTAL: 5.03 GW/h constant, 160.2 GW/h variable
COST: $1.4692 billion

*Note that the variable means that the power output varies between 0 and the given value. 4x the amount necessary are sold so that there are no catastrophic losses of power.
**This means that your existing stations will be converted to run on hydrogen gas, which will be provided from biorefineries that can supplement your demand for oil in plastics.

(Note: the rest of the stuff for your vehicles and for the factories will come once I find my calculator: I honestly can't do those calculations for you in my head, and the stuff provided on windows is pretty useless.)

Response from Karskovia:

The quote is acceptable though we would like to add ten Biorefineries so we can supplement our demand for oil in plastics if not eliminate it, and ten GM Algae Plants to balance our biorefineries. We also would like to look into the Sol satellite (4 to be exact) and the Receiving station (3 would be nice. We would put two satellites in orbit and have two receiving stations to service each satellite. A third receiving station would be used as a back up facility due to damage or maintaince of one or both of the other stations, then in the future be used full time if a third satellite is needed. The fourth would be on reserve in case of permanent failure of one of our main satellites.

We also would like to add Twenty (20) Sea Current Buoys for our naval base on a small island just south of our boarders and two floating submarine bases on our south eastern borders.

If we were to modify all cars, we would like to see what Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Modification would cost compaired to a Hybrid Conversion with Biofuel/electric.

We would need 30,000 Fuel-cell boat conversions for our civilian craft, 5,000 Biofuel Plane Modifications, 10,000 Factory-Outlet Filters, 1000 Sewerage outlet plants, 100 hectares of Artificial Wetlands, 10,000 Factory Airstack filters, 100 Anti-smog Air Processor , 500 hectares of Landfill cleanup.

If you could add that to the final quote as well, I would greatly appreciate it.

OOC:
Some of your prices seem to come from a randomizer or miss a few zeros... $800 for a 400kW solar array - ??? For a 400kW system, $800 won't buy you even 20 feet of cable, that simple. As far as solar cells go, it can't nearly buy a single kilowatt.
You can take a look at cheap solar panels here -
http://store.solar-electric.com/hiposopa.html
http://www.partsonsale.com/
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=solar+cells+lowest+prices

In other words, your price on that item is 1000 times lower than in the real world. That is too much of a stretch.

On other generators, costs are also unrealistically low, as much as 10 to 400 times lower. For reference, I'd put the cost range for solar and wind power as $1000-$3000 per kilowatt (or $1-3 per watt).

At the same time, fuel cell powered bus costs ridiculously much - more than a locomotive, though really locomotives cost 5 million (simple) to 50 million (Shinkansen), 50-100 times more than a bus. The locomotive should cost like 12-20 million, the bus like 200-250 thousand. And biofuel diesels aren't even different from normal ones in all but fuel system.

I'd suggest to research and think out the prices more carefully.

This is just an advice.
