A New Life Born of Mystery

It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma what happened to the home-world of the Grey Order. Billions of humans, millions upon millions of clones and droids, thousands of Jedi knights, forty-five planets, cities of all sizes, lives of all variety, and one galactic empire... all gone in the blink of an eye. Presumably, that is. Nobody knows what happened - at least nobody outside of Revenant-X, and they aren't speaking a word of it.

Floating through space, thousands of light years from their former homes, the last "survivors" of a once wondrous civilization live out their lives as if nothing had changed. Attempting to speak with one of the ship's inhabitants is only met with a curtain of silence and disdain. Their past remains a private issue, and one that is beyond taboo to ever mention.

Revenant-X (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b360/DMG2005/Revenant-X.jpg), the ship claimed home by the "survivors," is shrouded in mystery as much as the events preceding its prime existence. It is unlike any design seen before in the empire and is yet more sophisticated than any military ship that had been in service. Three main engines on is underside propel the ship through the vastness of space, but its hyperdrive enables it to move like no other. The top houses a powerful laser, while turbolasers, ion cannons, tractor beams, and other weapons are scattered amongst the rest of the body. Its body shape enables easy landing and docking procedures whether in space or on a planet's surface. Inside, however, it is not like a star destroyer or corvette; it is lavishly decorated with the appearance in most places of being in any building on the ground. But more than anything, the presence of the Grey Order can be felt everywhere. It is as much a temple as the one in their previous home was and it contains the last knowledge of the Order and its people.

In a ship only one hundred meters in diameter, the last remnants of a civilization, thousands of years of knowledge and information, the thousand survivors of a galactic mystery, and the diminished Jedi numbers of the Grey Order remain. A computer manifesto readout lists (the various races) those five hundred members onboard who were not part of the Order: Annoo-dat Prime [10]; Cerean [8]; Clone Troopers [100]; Drall [2]; Epicanthix [5]; Ewok [50]; Firrerreo [17]; Humans [191]; Nautolan [15]; Ortolan [12]; Wookiee [34]; Zabrak [24]; Zeltron [32].

The Grey Order (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10257391&postcount=5), however, exists as it always has. The same structure and hierarchy, the same rules and adherences, the same virtues and vices, the same goals and endgame. However, where there were once thousands of Grey Jedi Knights - younglings, padawans, knights, and masters - only five hundred remain to walk that path that splits the Force into such polarizing beliefs. The High Council remains with its Executor, Lord Mistress Dani, accompanied by its Masters and Mistresses (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10257408&postcount=6): Count (Master) Zadeth, Master Kendo Zayne, Mistress Atriax, Master Nu-Alk Ti, Mistress Elektra, Master Vi-Tex, Master Maibacca, and Mistress Lycandraa. The other stalwarts remain as well - the Knight, ever mysterious and cloaked; the Prophet (Kel'mari); the Assassin-turn-Knight, Talia; and, of course, Princess Jessica.

The ranks of the Order are filled by four hundred eighty-six capable Jedi of varying species, abilities, and age. There are a few young Padawans, dozens of Knights, a large contingent of Masters, and those who stand out above the rest.

With little way of gaining resources - though it had enough consumables and workable materials for most needs - the tripod spaceship had set down on the beautiful planet of Dantooine. With the mysterious disappearance of their home-world an unknown time ago, the Greys had decided to set down on a relatively stable and known planet. The capital city of Khoonda, hardly capable of being called a city at all, did not nearly have a large enough spaceport to set down the Revenant-X, so they landed in the middle of a grassy field a few hundred meters away. While Dantooine at been at its peak with a Jedi Enclave many, many years before, the fact that it had even been chosen to house an Enclave meant something. Whether it was for the rumors of lightsaber crystals, the residual force, or the peace of a quiet planet, the Grey Order, steeped in mystery as it was, had settled for the time being.

But even few imbued with the Force could foresee what would happen...

[OOC: Okay, then. So, a summary here is pretty obvious. Something mysterious and unknown has happened to my FT Nation (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=464051), and all that is left is this ship and its contents/inhabitants. Half of its inhabitants are force users and members of the Grey Order. Obviously, this is Star Wars based. This isn't exactly an RP with any direction or future - not should it be one about finding out about the past. It is basically my way of changing up FT existence a bit, though I am not sure whether it will be just a side thing where I can RP as these survivors or the actual future of my FT nation. I guess its "open," though as stated I don't have much planned or designed. Also, as this obviously scales my nation down to character-based, I would rather participate in character-based RPs rather than military stuff. Questions, comments, TG me. This is IC.]

For all of its interactions with other races, the people of Mythrandir held little stock in many foreign beliefs. Among those beliefs was a term that came up more frequently than most. The Force held little sway in Mythrandir and as far as they were concern, not a single Myth possessed any of attributes. Despite this absence there were those that were attuned to changes within the planet or even the universe as a whole. The elves could sense pain within the planet whenever its natural balance was thrown out of order. It accounted for their harmonious lifestyle with the forest and the rest of the land. Only what was absolutly needed was harvested and nothing was ever wasted. Dwarves could feel the rocks in the earth and know their qualities and what creation lay dorment inside an unadorned slab of rock. Once completed, each piece of dwarven masonry was a work of art in their own respect. Even the dark elves lived in harmony with their darkness favoring the deep places of the earth and all of its secrets. There was one though, above the others, who had far more power at his disposal than any of the others. All of it held in one person's hands and it had only been mildly awoken once. However, an unawakened power was not very noticeable and that was how he preferred to keep it.

The Kingdom of Mythrandir had a wide variety natural wonders. Scenic views were not hard to come by on their two main planets but still there were those that travelled to other planets for study or simply to vacation on. Others were interested in exploration for future business prospects since the natural beauty found in Mythrandir was largely meant to remain intact. Elder Sebastian and his wife, Sarah, found themselves on a lone transport vessel travelling through the Warp simply to get away from the constant worries that came with running a kingdom even with the help of the other Elders. Sebastian had hoped to take this trip alone with his wife but the constant urgings of War Mistress Shizra had the Elder bringing along a small group of Warriors for security. Confident in his own abilities to defend himself, Sebastian only agreed to bringing along a very small group and the three of them were thankfully in the back of the ship.

"Where are we going?" Sarah wrapped in arm around Sebastian's and leaned her head against his shoulder.

Sebastian looked out the window into the chaotic darkness of the Warp and could occassionally spot one of the four Goblin Fighters flying escort for their short trip. "Hopefully a planet without any inhabitants. There is supposed to be little to no activity in this sector so we should have some freedom."

Sarah tugged on his arm and shot him a quick glare. "You're not going to pout the entire time on our trip are you? Stop worrying about alliances and try to relax while you have the chance."

The recent activities back home had brought in new allies though these appeared to have come with backage. Some of them were presently under the threat of a war which could very well spill over to the homes of his peaceful people. Sebastian didn't like the idea but they were at the same odds with the same people that had invaded their Kingdom. He couldn't wholly turn them down as allies which now possibly put his Myths in harms way. Pushing all of that out his head, he smiled. "No my dear. This is our little trip and I intend to do it. If nothing else, Elder Alurial is not here to bother me. So that just shoots this trip through the roof in terms of goodness." Satisfied with his answer, Sarah smiled and went back to resting her head on his shoudler.

Some time later, a distortion in space was formed with energy spiralling out in all directions. Tentacles of pure white energy pulled in on themselves and discharged five ships. Four of the ships were simple fighters on escort duty while the fifth was civilian transport ship moving into orbit over the planet. The pilot decided to do a quick scan of their targeted area. It was best to ensure that the terrain would handle the landing and to make sure there were no structures in the way.

As the most experienced, most powerful, and often most wise members of the Order, those Jedi that sat on the High Council taught many of the younglings and Padawans before they were selected as an Apprentice. Usually there were classes that taught the basics - though often the most important parts - of the Order and Force.

Mistress Lycandraa (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b360/DMG2005/Lycandraa.jpg), the young Twi'lek who had been one of the more recent appointments to the High Council, sat on a small white chair in one of the rooms of the Revenant-X as a group of Padawans, ages two to five, huddled around and listened...

"We of the Grey Order balance what many see to be to distinct sides of the Force: the Light Side and the Dark Side," she said as the wide-eyed younglings sat in attention. "Unlike the Jedi, Sith, and other Force Users, we seek to walk the line that enables us to remain true yet utilize both sides. But it is our actions that define what we are..."

"Some Greys tend to lean more to the Dark Side force powers and some lead more to the Light Side force powers. For example," she began, about to present what had become the prototypical example in the last couple of decades. "Master Kendo Zayne, a wise and highly revered Jedi by all, is one who stays more to the side that Jedi approve. Master Zadeth, on the hand, though equally revered for his knowledge and skill, leans more to powers thought 'unnatural' or 'evil' by some..."

---------

Alone through the dark cavern the gray light of Master Kendo Zayne (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b360/DMG2005/KendoZayne.jpg) crept ever forward, never failing in step or hesitating in action. In his reported ninety-six years of life he had gained centuries of wisdom and knowledge. As a Senior High Council Member, he put to use his peaceful nature and Light Side beliefs to become an expert diplomat, chief among representatives of the Order. However, it was for that reason that he had seen little combat or action in the last two or three decades, not that he wanted to anyway.

But now that they had landed on the peaceful planet of Dantooine, Zayne thought a little exploring couldn't do any harm. Of course his first day on the planet had been dedicated to dealing with the local authority and building relations so that the Khoondans didn't feel threatened. It was fairly easy work though; not that the Khoondan government or people were exceptionally accepting - they in fact didn't really trust the Jedi and made only minor distinctions between the Jedi, Sith, Greys, and any other Force Users - but because he knew that he had accomplished all that they would be able to, at least for now.

Now he found himself walking alone through the caverns that cut through the rock hillsides. Rumors had it that years ago the caves were filled with lightsaber crystals, and a Padawan seeking to build his first weapon had to fight through the beasts here, but his search so far had turned up nothing. Most likely the Jedi had established an enclave here in order to monopolize the crystal cache, but now all that remained was shards and fragments of a broken realm.

In the darkness of the cave, having wound around a corner on the way in, breaking any light from the local sun, it was hard to see far. However, Zayne had long ago conjured up the ability to willfully, yet with almost no effort, establish a ring of gray light around his body. More useful, however, was his use of the Force to perceive his surroundings rather than having to rely on visual sight.

Continuing his search through the winding path, he came upon a small cavern that looked like it had been hollowed out my man and machine. In fact, a few of the machines remained, stationary for years, covered in dust, and shrouded in a mist that obscured the floor.

As the venerable Grey Master stepped into the room, a squirrelly voice rang out from some indistinguishable point, echoing off the walls and growing in strength. "Know what they were doing here, do you?"

Master Kendo Zayne was caught off guard. He had not sensed another being in the caves with him, but the voice was close, in the very same room as he. It sounded dark, disturbing. Slowly he slipped his bony yet soft hand inside the grey cloak that adorned his frame, grasping at his weapon. He knew not whether the voice was friend or foe, or whether it was dangerous, but he had a sense, a disturbing image of the force that had put him on guard now.

The voice continued without waiting for answer, this time the echo beginning at a different point. "Strong in the Force, you are. But for all your wisdom, know anything, you do not." The Grey Master was getting nervous. He could definitely feel the being's presence in the Force now, and it was greater than any he had ever encountered before. Quickly, with agility not expected of a man nearing his second century of life, his hand grasped his lightsaber and in one simple flick ignited the orange flame.

Hunched slightly and turning in every direction with his orange lightsaber in guard stance, Zayne attempted to get a bearing on his powerful foe. "HAHAHA AHEHE... With your lightsaber, you want to play? Fine." As the word rolled of the mysterious being's tongue, three beams of light and energy appeared twenty feet in the air at opposite points. A trio of red lightsabers descended and encircled the Jedi as the cackles of a mad man continued echoing through the air. Despite being a quality duelist, having had his reactions and skills with a blade diminish over the years, Master Kendo Zayne would have no chance.

"Shadows and dust! We are but shadows and dust..."

---------

"He served me well as he did my mother, and her mother before her..." Lord Mistress Dani (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b360/DMG2005/Dani.jpg) spoke unequivocally. "His spirit was such that when he passed, we all felt his loss, and I grieve for him as my own father and brother."

Though the day was one of picturesque beauty - the sun rising over the eastern hills, the warm air brushing through the grassy fields, the birds chirping as life goes - it was a red dawn. Four hundred ninety-seven grey-cloaked figures stood in perfect lines with their ceremonial lightsabers ignited to the skies above. It was a perfect scene, though not one for a funeral pyre...

The flames of the funeral pyre roared to life and consumed the body and last vestiges of the great Grey Master Kendo Zayne. As his body disappeared into ashes that would be swept into records of history, nigh five hundred lightsabers were extinguished simultaneously - the last beating heart of the Grey Jedi Master.

"May the Force be with you... always."

Flames engulfed the ship as it passed through the atmosphere of planet Dantooine. A minor annoyance for transport vessels that were crafted to withstand the atmosphere of Dag'goroth where chaotic storms punish the surface of the planet and any ship attempting to enter with ligthning, wind, and dust. Heat dissipated and the shuttle made its approach for a cleared landing point out in the middle of a field. Landing prongs extracted from the body of the vessel and gently touched down in the swaying grass while the ship's two engines powered down.

There was some disheartening news that the pilot needed to inform his passengers about. He left the rest of the minor details for checking the ship's systems to his co-pilot and headed back towards the seating area. Finding Sebastian and his wife awake, the pilot cleared his throat to get there attention.

Sebastian opened his eyes after enjoying the quiet air of the ride down to the surface. He gently nudged his wife who had gone to sleep after resting on his shoulder. Both looked to the man that had come to disturb them. "What is it captain?"

The pilot took a seat in a chair that was across the aisle allowing him time to collect his thoughts. "Excuse me Elder, ma'am; but, I am afraid there has been a misunderstanding with this planet. For some reason it seems that the explorers that came this way earlier missed the pockets of civilization inhabiting this planet. It appears this planet is already claimed."

Sebastian's head fell back into the cushioned chair. "How could this have happened?"

"It is possible that there was an error from the explorers when they were calculating the coordinants of the planet through the Warp or they might have simply not been thorough in their work."

The young Elder did not even want to think about such a mistake in handling coordinants. Something of that magnitude puts an entire aboard the ship at risk. There was no telling where they would come out at. If that was the case then they were lucky to have come out in one piece. "Alright, thank you captain. Contact Mythrandir and run a check on our coordinants. Clear up any discrepancies you might find. As for us, we'll take a look around this planet and see what's here."

"As you wish Elder."

With the pilot gone, Sarah turned to her husband in confusion. "Why are we getting off? You heard the captain say that the planet is already inhabited."

"Precisely the point. We've already reached the surface so if they have any technological abilities on par with our own, then they've most likely already detected our entry into their world. I do not want to leave quickly and cause fear among the populace. Especially if that fear will resonate with the identification of our people. Besides, this can still be an enjoyable break for us. It will simply require a mild bit of diplomacy with an unknown people."

His wife thought it over for a bit then decided she liked his reasoning. "Very well, but if you get caught up with diplomacy or work I reserve the right to have our Warriors find the closest lodging and throw you in it. Then I will take over the talks. This is more of a vacation for you as it is for us dear. Do not disappoint me."

"Very well my dear. It is a deal." Sebastian couldn't help but smile at Sarah who was not only his lover but also his best friend. He kissed her quickly then hurried back to the end of the cabin where the three Warriors that accompanied them were waiting.

In the back of the ship, the three warriors made small talk with one another discussing past battles or life at the Warriors Institute. Two humans and a dark elf sat around bragging about their prowess in the last war where Mythrandir had been invaded but their conversation quickly died with the presence of the Elder. "As you can see, we've arrived but the pilot has informed me that this planet is inhabited. I want Liz to stay here with the ship to look after everything. You know where the armor locker is right?"

A short woman in stature with raven hair silently nodded. Obviously a young one who had only served a small amount of time in the Forge and was still in awe everytime she saw an Elder. Exactly one of the reasons why Sebastian wanted her to stay here with the ship. Satisfied that she would remain, the Elder addressed the other two. "As for you, strip off the armor. We're guests in these people's home and I do not want to appear confrontational. Sidearms only and keep them in the shadows of your cloak."

There were a few groans but the two Warriors unstrapped their armor and placed the pristine metalic pieces in the chairs they had been seated in. The dark elf Tark, who had also been recently promoted to lieutenant, grabbed his scimitar and a silver pistol. He fastened the belt of his blade around his waist and tucked the pistol in the holster behind his back. He finished off his preparations by putting a metalic circle next to the belt loop and threw his traveling cloak over his shoulders. The other man was prepared as well with his cloak covering up the small straight blade at his side.

"Good. Let's head out. There is a settlement not too far from here. We should be able to reach it in no time."

Not arguing with anything from the Elder, the two Warriors fell in line behind the man. Sebastian helped his wife out of the seat and headed down the ramp and out into the world. The weather was beautiful and the gentle breeze felt glorious on the Elder's skin with just a simple vest covering his upper frame. Sarah hooked a loose strand of brown hair behind her ear while her dress rustled with the breeze. "It is a beautiful planet."

Sebastian took her hand smiling. "That it is my dear. Let's go and see what this place has to offer and perhaps we can offer something in return."

The group of four made their way through the grassy field and the terrain of this new planet. Sure enough, as they walked the outlines of buildings began to grow in the horizon. Deciding the best place to start, Sebastian lead his companions toward what lay ahead already enjoying the adventure from the simple wonderful weather and hoping that it would continue on.

The death of Master Kendo Zayne, though perhaps destined to be soon in his old age, was not an accident, was not of natural causes. The lightsaber cuts and burn marks made that all too obvious. After his body had been discovered in the caves by a fellow Order member, the Lord Mistress ordered all of her people back to the ship and set it on Lockdown.

A long and arduous investigation conducted by the High Council Members determined that none of the Order had been responsible. All of the ordinary people, citizens of both Revenant-X and Dantooine had quickly been ruled out because they simply would not have been able to wield a lightsaber with the required skill. Master Zayne may have been in his later years and his grasp of the blade might have been slipping, but he was still a Grey, and a High Councilor at that. Whoever slay him was a deviously skilled member of the Force community.

After a week and no further incidents, Dani removed the Lockdown status from the ship and its inhabitants were allowed to wander forth once more. However, the lack of disturbances did not keep the Lord Mistress from pacing in her chambers. In fact, the relative calm made her all the more uneasy. For something so tragic and evil to happen and then nothing else, it was too strange...

"Your Highness, the Khoondan Director requests a conference. She seems as uneasy with..." the aide paused, uncomfortable talking about the death of Master Zayne in front of someone who knew him so well. "Well, as uneasy as you do. I believe she wishes to speak about a temporary security force for the city."

Dani didn't respond. She only kept pacing across her luxurious chambers as she thought. Yeah, that or tell us to get the hell off her planet.

Another aide spoke up as the first one seemed to be finished with his report. "My lady, the sensors have picked up an unfamiliar ship landing outside the city. It is not clear what its intentions are or who it belongs to."

Let the Director deal with it, she thought, turning her malice towards the non-present leader of the city.

"My Mistress," the third member present spoke. He was dressed different from the other two for he was a member of the Order of the rank of Knight. "His lordship, Count Zadeth has not been in contact for twenty-two hours..."

---------

As he walked through the kinrath infested caves of the stone hillsides outside the city's center, Count Zadeth could not help but feel that they were darker than he could remember. Perhaps it was the scourge of the dark side he felt manifesting itself in the caves after the death of Kendo Zayne. Walking along the normally dry paths felt wet somehow, like they were dripping with blood. What had drawn the normally stoic Count to this place was a mystery. Why he had followed his feelings was the Force.

He had already been to the alcove where his former mentor had died - only hours after they recovered his body a small unit was sent to investigate the area, but nothing had turned up. This time was different. This time he was drawn along the right path all the way to the back of the caves. It looped and turned, curved up and down, and finally led to a natural open area. There were trappings of water along the sides as well as stalagmites and stalactites draping the floor and ceiling. However, what immediately drew his eye were the countless crystal formations that lined the walls and formed in the middle of the cave.

How could we've missed these? he thought in both curiosity and shock. It was well known amongst the Order members that part of the reason they had come to Dantooine was to look for crystals to use in lightsabers. There stock was dwindling and there were few known places in the galaxy to acquire the rare compositions. And there were far fewer that were free from control. Those that were untamed were so for good reason; generally they were too dangerous or too hard to reach to be worth it. In millennium past, Dantooine had been a harvest site for crystals among the Jedi, but they had run dry and the only thing that was left was rumors of a crystal here or a crystal there. This scene before him, on the other hand, was quite the contrary. There were dozens of pure crystal formations with countless lightsaber crystals all ready for the snatching. How is this possible?

"How this is possible, you wonder?" A booming voice echoed across the cave and rattled the crystals, echoing his very thoughts.

Count Zadeth, kneeling next to a formation and touching them ever so gently with the tip of his finger, visibly jumped at the sound of the powerful voice. It was unnerving for its sheer power, for the fact that it had crept up unbeknownst, and because as he glanced around the Grey could find no source.

At what seemed to be exactly the right time, it continued. "When come seeking nothing, see what you find. A powerful thing, the force is..."

The High Council Member, for the first time in his life, stood speechless in confusion.

"To understand the Force is knowledge. To control the Force is ability. To manipulate the Force... that is true power!" A pause was filled with maniacal laughter. "Better than most, you know this. Better than your mentor, Zayne, you knew this."

Zadeth tensed at the name of his fallen comrade. Could this mysterious, unseen being know something of them?

"Lived in his in shadow for years, you had, but surpassed him in greatness, you have. Always fought with him, you did. Over the Dark Side, it was. Why he was weak in death, it was..."

Curiosity, shock, and wonder turned to unmitigated rage within the Count. Any questions he had were pushed away as only the thought of Kendo Zayne's slain body filled his mind. The unknown being had said little and revealed little, but it was obvious that the perpetrator of the heinous act was before him... somewhere.

"You... will... pay!!!" There was venom dripping from his lips as the words struggled to break through his clenched jaw. As he released the words, his rage came flowing out in the form of the electrified Force. A form appeared on a nearby-elevated rock above the water, to which Count Zadeth directed the Lightning Storm. The air crackled and popped as the sheer power of the lightning shot across the room towards the figure.

But, with Zadeth's hands still raised before him, the lightning suddenly disappeared. Just feet before it reached the being, a wave of its hand and it was gone. In complete shock, the Count tried desperately again to produce his favorite weapon, but nothing came forth at his bidding.

Nothing except the mysterious being who took two steps forward off the rock and appeared in the light. The Count's eyes were wide with astonishment as his jaw now hung loosely.

"That is now power... This is POWERRR!!!!" The room immediately filled with electricity that emanated from the being's fingers, shattering every crystal into millions of tiny pieces as the lightning storm coursed through the Grey Jedi's body. The sheer monstrousness of the power caused the entire series of caves to quake. And then there was the undying silence of death...

Sebastian and his group stood at the threshold of the city that they saw on the horizon. (I leave it to you for the name and significance of this city.) It had taken them several minutes to cross the grassy plains but it was a casual walk that they all enjoyed. The planet's beautiful weather was truly a joy, one that they all relished in and were grateful for. Nothing so wonderful as a long easy walk.

Together the four companions stood at the rim of what appeared to be center for commerce among the farmers of the region. Sarah hooked an arm in with one of her husband's. She smiled as she watched the people of this planet go about their business. "They look like simple enough folk."

The young Elder nodded his agreement. It appeared to be a peaceful planet which suited the Elder just fine. The only concern Sebastian had at the moment was that for the past few minutes, pain in his hand was starting to make it throb. His right hand was always a give away when something was a miss. For now Sebastian had successfully hidden the pain from his wife but he hoped that whatever it was, would subside and leave him in peace.

Hooking an arm around his wife, Sebastian guided them all into the market. "Let's find a vendor and get some food. It's been a long ride and I'm sure everyone else is hungry. Right?"

The two warriors breathed a sigh of relief, glad to have some food after their quick little march. Sebastian only hoped that they would blend in well enough to not cause any great commotion as he looked over some fruits. Afterwards he hoped they could successfully locate whoever was in charge of this little planet and introduce themselves.
