The Charcoal Isles, Ashen Province

The Charcoal Isles, a small chain of five isles from south to north, didn't appear on most maps, even those of the province. They were on the very edge of the provincial empire, the eastern most extremity of Ashen. When they did show up on maps, and only on provincial maps, only a single city, Port Moonlight, appeared in the middle of the ocean.

The northernmost isle, the Isle of Blades, was mountainous and unsettled. Yet it was here, shielded by clouds from the Eyes in the Sky, the rebels plotted, planned, and prepared. Only a handful of rebels, the Generals who commanded them, knew why this, of all places, was chosen for the staging point for the Rebellion. Erika had explained it to the generals as such.

Firstly, the Charcoal Isles were small, and were a guaranteed victory for the Rebellion. Secondly, they were worker's land, the land of the oppressed, giving fertile ground for expansion. On the tertiary, it provided open passage into the seas, along with having valuable resources for funds.

Erika Redmark, under the name of General Litalia*, stepped off of the fishing ship, looking at Port Moonlight in the distance, or as she called it, Gress-Uss. The forces were already mobilized, the dots of the rebel navy blasting apart the three frigates in Port Moonlight being quickly destroyed. The first battle of the Rebellion, one that would be forgotten to history, and the Great Eastern Rebellion would begin.

The Day After, Imperial News Network

"Shocking news today, just yesterday on the little isles that time forgot, the Charcoal Isles, were seized by rebels under the yoke of former Prime Minister and Imperial Advisor, Erika Redmark. Following this, rebel forces sprung up in many places, seizing all of the eastern provinces, and one mainland city, Derenton Freehold. Combat still rages through the colonies, as rebel and loyalist forces clash. Fortunately, the Imperial Family and Parliament was evacuated before the rebel forces could seize Riverrod province.

*A clip of downtown New Gibraltar is shown, rebels on top of buildings firing rifle and RPG fire down on the loyalists, who are pursuing unseen rebels. The sound of a high whistling sound pierces the air, and the rooftop rebels scramble as a bomb blows apart a building.

The loyalists, undeterred, continue forward, and now the rebel defenses are shown. Five shallow trenches are in front of a solid barricade wall, the trenches having various metal spikes and wooden stakes sticking out in front of them to slow the onslaught. As the loyalists charge forward, various traps on the strip of land are activated, foot holes with small wooden steaks ripping at the feet.
As the loyalists get ever nearer, they activate a tripwire, raining small stones, glassware, and various other junk that was not large enough to be used in the barricades. The soldiers climb on top of the wall of rubble, leaving those trapped underneath to their deaths. The clip stops as the first trench becomes red with blood.*

*Novah for Liberator

OOC: I reserve the right to deny certain things, as I want this to be long for maximum enjoyment, and I have an end that I've already set. Approved people are Lord Sumguy and Vetalia on the rebels side, and British Londinium and Akimonad with the loyalists. For starters, there will be absolutely no nukes at all, no godrods, and only tactical use of chemicals and biological weaponry. OOC Thread Here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=538258)

Eastforge, Isle of Blades

The city hidden under the mountains that had hosted the beginning of the Rebellion was much more empty. In the infirmary, a single man hooked up with various machines in a coma lay. With a grunt, Thomas woke up, confused as to where he was. Then it all came back to him in a flash, the training, the lectures, the tests, the Geneforge, and then the coma.

A nearby nurse, noted his awakening, calling for the doctor. Running, Doctor Burkle entered, his apprentice Jared shortly behind. Studying the moniters closely, making several notes, he paused then said, "Well Thomas, the moniters show that you've had increased mental capacity, muscular strength has increased, and cardiovascular efficiency is up. Now, for the negatives, there has been a change in brain structure, predominatly in the emotional sector. What's more, you're eyes have become more wintery, and you glow in the dark, a slight green color. Now, how do you feel?"

Thomas thought about this. What did this idiot want to know? He opened his mouth, speaking to this insolent doctor in a tone laced with venom, "Well rested, doctor." Burkle nodded, scribbling down a note on his clipboard, Increased arrogance, quick to anger, God complex. "We wouln't be able to feild you yet. We'll have to test you, see how you react to the changes in the next month, and then you can go." To this, Thomas became explosivly angry, taking a minute or so for self-control to reestablish itself.

With that, Thomas was taken to his room, dressed in proper attire, and given a hearty meal. After eating, he was taken for physical tests, breaking many records and far surpassing his pre-transformation times. He was then tested on his subconscious knowledge, passing with flying colors. He was also very irritable, seeing the tests as a waste of time. The Geneforge had been a success.

Imperial Palace, Vetalia City

Dim evening light spilled in to the conference chamber of the newly-renamed Imperial Palace, creating shadows that seemingly seeped out from behind the opulent furnishings and elaborate marble work of the room and began to fill it with the night's darkness. However, this darkness was rapidly banished as the heavy wooden doors of the chamber were flung open and the lights brightened by a group of Praetorial Guards who assumed positions at the entrance to the room and in the far corners. Behind them entered the Emperor and his Proconsuls, who were stiffly saluted by the guards as they entered and took their positions at the conference table. Once everyone was seated, and once the servants had brought in necessary refreshments for the assembled, the Emperor began to speak in his quiet, softy accented voice.

"As you know, gentlemen, the situation in Vontanas has degenerated in to civil war. Previously, we agreed to aid them in their overthrow of the government in exchange for the creation of the Van-Vetalian Empire, and it is time to honor our end of the bargain. However, there are some issues that must be resolved prior to such an agreement. Proconsul Alabayev, please explain to us what exactly we are facing in this situation."

"Well, Emperor, we have it with almost certain confidence that the Londinians and the Akimonidans will support the existing government, while Lord Sumguy is supportive of the rebels. Of course, this is a quandary because our nation has always had cordial ties with the Londinians and we are allied with Akimonad via the CAP. Given my predecessor's invasion of Lord Sumguy's territory due to our membership in EVIL, we are effectively fighting in an internecine conflict between our allies."

"Well, what do you suggest we do, Proconsul?"

"Our nation is obliged, no, desires, to aid the Vontanan rebels in their struggle, and that is what we must do. However, perhaps there are ways to prevent this war from spilling outside its borders...I would not like to see our Londinian allies or the CAP caught in a war between our allies. It would weaken our position immensely if that were to happen."

"Yes, we know that, Proconsul. The question is what we should do."

"Of course. Our government should aid the rebels to the point where they can defeat the government on their own. That would mean using our forces in a defensive sense, holding off government forces and using our resources to arm and equip the rebels professionally. How many forces would be needed, however, I can't tell you."

"Proconsul Alabayev, my Ministry has estimated we will need to send no fewer than 2 million, ideally 5 million soldiers to Akimonad, in addition to a sizable naval command and enough equipment to professionally arm and equip at least 500,000 rebels."

"Can we spare those forces, Tikhonov?"

"Yes, Emperor, we can. Since the conclusion of security efforts in many of our colonies, we have been able to withdraw, rest, and repair the vast majority of forces in the past year. 5 million troops can be mobilized and sent out without problem. The same is true of the naval forces, which are ready to move out at a moment's notice."

"Good, good. Send word to the rebels of our commitment to their forces and prepare our supply shipments for the rebel forces."
"Yes, Emperor."

From Viktor Bukharin's The Vontanan Civil War:

The remainder of the meeting focused on economic issues, domestic security, and various other interesting affairs in regard to the internal politics of Vetalia. However, these do not play a role in the Vontanan civil war and are not recorded by the Imperial Archive in its draft of said meeting.

The Charcoal Islands, small coastal town:

Rev. John Anderson sat at his desk in a small room attached to the makeshift church that he and his fellow "missionaries" had built two months previous. in the remote fishing village they had been assigned to. He was one of nearly 10000 preists, imams, and rabbis to have come to Great Vatania in the past three months to help instigate rebellion against the imperial government. On his desk were two stacks of books. One stack contained copies of the Bible, the other John Locke's Two Treatises on Government, both of which he had been giving away to the local populace.

He turned on the small television on the corner of the desk, and saw the report. He watched for a minute, and stood up. He walked calmly into the main area of the church, were his fellow missionaries were running a homeless shelter for the few beggars within the community. "Rejoice brothers! The day of judgement has come!" He shouted, his voice booming throughout the structures. The thirty men who had come with him to the nation immediately begin taking crates out from odd corners and opening them, taking out the contents.

Three minutes later they were all wearing kevlar vests covered by the uniforms of the christian sect of the Abrahamic League, a white shirt emblazoned with St. George's cross, and holding AK-47 assault rifles. Rev. Anderson armed himself with a rifle, and together they walked out of the church toward the town police station.

Similar events were occuring all throughout this are of the nation, as the missionaries who had been educating and providing free medical care for the natives for the past several months armed themselves and advanced on the local government officials and buildings. No shooting had occured yet, as the AL wished to have as many quiet takeovers as possible to assure the people of their good intentions.

OOC: The AL members in cities and on the other side of the country have still not moved.

The Vetalian fleet drew closer and closer the Charcoal Isles, where they would dock and begin unloading their equipment and forces for deployment to the front lines of the rebellion. For now, they were several days away from the islands, but the fleet was making good time and might actually arrive before schedule.

According to the plans drafted by the high command, the islands would become a combination of command base, airfield, port, and supply depot for Vetalian forces in the country. Teams of engineers would work to fortify the island and make it impregnable to all but the strongest enemy assaults, and soldiers across the island would work to secure and develop the territory as an economic base for supplying the rebellion abroad.

For now, however, the ships moved through tranquil seas, seas that were deceptively peaceful given the conflicts that lay ahead.

Farmlands of Ashen Province

Ted was sitting in the parlor, smoking a sweet herbal pipe and reading the Bible when the knock came. He quickly closed his Bible, doused his pipe, and picked up his shotgun. He walked to the door, his wife opening it while he pointed it at whatever lay on the other side. The man, dressed in a military uniform with no insignia, clearly identifying him as a rebel, looked shocked. "How are you and why are you here?" Ted asked, keeping the gun pointed at the man's head.

"I'm a recruiting agent for the Rebellion, sir." the man said, pushing the shotgun down. Still wary, Ted let him in and served him tea, resuming his smoking. Finally, he said, "I am to old to fight, I can barely defend my own farm as it is. My wife is one month pregnant with our third baby, so she can't go, and the twins are only sixteen, to young to fight in the war."

"On the contrary, Theodore, they're the perfect age to start fighting. Bring them to me for inspection." the recruiter said, uncaring of protests. With a sigh, Ted gestured to his wife, who went outside with a triangle. Soon, the two twins were there, boy and girl. The recruiter stood up, surveying the two closely, examining their muscular development. Finally, he spoke again, "They're both good. The girl's better though, she's qualified for the Geneforge. Come with me children." the man said, striding out the door. With a final look at their parents, the two left, most likely never to see their parents or each other again.

The Shores of Riverrod

There was a hush over the ships as the silently prodded towards the shores of Riverrod, the dawns light starting to illuminate them. The shores were still undefended, as the rebels had not the time to create proper fortifications. The skeletal structure of what they had started to build was no impedment to the expeditionary force.

With a few signals, the marines quietly started wading towards shore, the ships hitting sand and being forced to switch to tank mode as they lumbered onto shore. The sounds of the machine's struggle and the grunts of men as they helped the boat-tanks to shore attracted a patrol, and soon a fire fight erupted.

The loyalists took cover behind the boat-tanks, which were unloaded presently. Meanwhile, the rebels held the high ground and took shots at the foe, covering them in fire. The boat-tanks armor was sufficient to keep the loyalists safe, but if they moved from behind them, they would be riddled with bullets. And so, the Battle of Riverrod was starting as a stalemate.

OOC: We should probably post a map of the country in the OOC thread.

Off the coast, Charcoal Isles

The ships were now only a few miles off of the coast, their hulking outline dominated by the high command towers of the Davidson-class dreadnoughts as they pulled closer and closer to the coast. From the main ship, christened the Praetor Vasily Petrov, they send out identification codes to the rebel forces, a mere formality given the fairly obvious identification of the ships with their Cyrillic lettering and Vetalian flags fluttering in the light breeze. The huge armada stretched for over a mile, with the majority of troop transports holding behind the combat ships of the fleet while the heaviest cruisers and battleships pushed forward in the front.

Upon approaching the coast, Admiral Alexei Starov, commander of the fleet and famous Vetalian naval commander during the invasion of North Calaveras, sent a brief message to the rebel high command:

"Our forces are prepared to deploy as necessary to aid in your victory over the rebels. With us are enough arms, supplies and ammunition for outfitting 500,000 troops. We will unload troops and send landing parties ashore to begin unloading equipment and plan our strategy for the coming campaign."

Commonwealth Senate
Parliament House
Kensington

Dame Flavia Davidson stood behind the dark, black granite podium at the front of the hemicycle chamber of the Londinian Senate. Two black and red Londinian flags were crossed in back of the podium, beneath a golden stylization of Londinia (http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z259/pertinax201/Insignia/blgovlogo.png), the national personification of the Commonwealth. She gave a cursory glance at the dark blue LBG Parliament cameras in the rear, and at the gallery of selected observers, comprised of foreign dignitaries and notable Londinians, before surveying the assembly of dark-suited senators anxiously awaiting her speech.

"It has long been the opinion of this government, and, indeed, all past Socialist governments, that when faced with a choice, must first consider the likely consequences of potential actions, and from that, choose to do what we believe will generate the most utility for the people of the Commonwealth," Dr Davidson said, her voice crisp, smooth, and strong. "Her Majesty's Government strives to serve the people first; there is a reason former consul Sir Alistair Davidson financed the Felicific Calculus Institute, to precisely determine the utility generated by a particular policy decision.

With this in mind, my fellow Londinians, we look towards the rapidly destabilizing situation in Great Vantania, a close ally of the Commonwealth. Rebel, anti-monarchic forces within the country have established a stronghold in the Charcoal Isles, and, from there, intend on violently overthrowing the Vantanian government.

After much consideration, I have come to the conclusion that it is the obligation of the Commonwealth to respond to this insurrection with extreme prejudice. The creation of a radical, staunchly republican state - as this Erika Redmark proposes - so near to our borders represents a significant national security that puts the lives of all Londinians at risk.

Troops will be deployed to the area within the month; meanwhile, an intensive bombing campaign shall be carried out to 'tenderize' enemy forces."

Flavia stepped down from the podium, and, amidst a flurry of activity from the chamber, left the Senate quickly.

The ships of the fleet plowed through the seas. The rather large squalls were breaking over the deck of many of the smaller ships as they tossed and turned. The decks were filled only with ammunition, guns and other equipment.

On the deck of the Wasp Assault Ships, several small motorboat-sized littoral ships were lashed to the deck, as well as several landing hovercraft.

Above the fleet flew several P-8 Poseidons and E-3 Sentries.

The fleet moved steadily along towards the Charcoal Islands.

Riverrod Province:

"GO!" screamed the loyalist, as the rebels pulled back from the oncoming air raid. Victorious, the loyalists shoved the tanks onto the beach, and started charging forward. The tanks roared, there operators finally able to fight. Surging forward off the beach front, there was a series of explosions.

"MINES, pull back!" the same loyalist said, before rebel mortar fire started hitting them. "TAKE COVER" the commander said, guiding the loyalists to a section of cliff they could hide behind.

Meanwhile, above Riverrod, the three airships roared as they pushed forward, protecting the bombers that were only a little behind them. The rebels had yet to mount a proper force to fight the invaders, and as such it was clear skies on all sides. If only they knew the fate that awaited them, they were already defeated.

An engineer waited nervously above the bomb, with the feul and gas near enough to destroy the airship and damage anything nearby. Anxiously, thinking of his family back in Ashen province, he fitted the key into the slot and tapped in the password. With a deafening, fiery explosion, the bomb erupted, destroying the airship, damaging the other airships, and crushing the nearby bombers. The air attack had been sunk, but how long would it be until the next one?

The Geneforge, Eastforge

Thomas watched with mild interest at the Prospectives who had been gathered to use the Geneforge, and help end the war. They wore the specially made protective gloves, and the uniform of a firefigher. Some, over confident as he had been, wore nothing but silk undergarments and the gloves, determined to show their resolve to the Rebellion. A priest in white robes, standing on a platform above the Geneforge, spoke to the Prospectives.

"Brothers and Sisters, you are brought here today for one cause, to fight for the Rebellion! You will today use the Lord Almighty's gift to the Rebellion, the Geneforge! You're strength and intellegence will grow exponentially. Be proud, for you will be stronger then anything the Loyalists will pit against you! Pro Deus et Imperium!" the priest said, before walking away from the inferno, sweating.

And with that, the first one, a farm girl from mainland Ashen, dressed in the bare minimum, walked forward ceremoniously, not showing her discomfort at the heat, touched her fingers lightly to the swirling red pool. Instantly, the machinery jolted to life, balls of energy being exchanged through the air as they tried to keep the heat of the Geneforge constant, the surplus going to those lacking, before leaping to the Geneforge itself. The girl did not flinch, even as the flames from the Geneforge burnt her. She struggled silently, until finally the blaze receded, the machinery stopped, and slowly she broke contact, fainting backwards.

Thomas turned away, leaving the Geneforge behind. He could not help but think, how strong she was, not showing pain or discomfort, not screaming as the heat ripped at her. His lips twisted in a way that was meant to be a smile. She was truly worthy of the glory of the Geneforge, the power it would give her. He involuntarily thought of her beauty, before pushing the thought out of his head. The Rebellion was his only love, or so he tried to convince himself.

Charcoal Isles, Vontanas

Brass blaring and drums pounding, the first of the five Vetalian field armies dispatched to the country held a formal parade. Along passed each regiment in precise lockstep, dressed impeccably in their deep gray parade uniforms, their elaborate standards fluttering only slightly in the mild breeze. The elite officer corps, headed by Colonel General Ivan Kazlov, watched quietly as the units marched past.

Out in the bay, the fleet had docked and was unloading supplies and equipment for the rebel troops, and the first mechanized units were coming ashore, the rows of Nakil MBTs forming an intimidating wall of armor near the coastline.

Charcoal Islands, Great Vantania, coastal city:

"Terrorists eh?" Rev. Mark Greenwood said, looking at the newspaper. "I don't remember any of our methods ever involving terror....and we don't attack civilians or bomb public buildings either. Is any foreign body that is against the Vantanian government and not a government itself going to be terrorist now? Eh, no matter, but this does complicate things." He turned to the assembled AL members in his church. "I think we may have to dissapear for awhile, at least until we can get some more people, as one hundred and fifty men is not enough to take a city by any means. I want you all to close the church, get the weapons and uniforms, and scatter. Lay low for a few days, do not meet in any group larger than two. We will also need to find me a hiding place, as preists will probably be prime targets for the Vantanian government. Let's get to it, and look for anyone that may sympathise with and help us."

The assembled men immediately began carrying out their orders, as the reverend changed out of his robes into plainclothes and dissapeared out the back door, carrying a large pack on his back.

The first of the Londinian-produced Tempora Heroica-class aircraft carriers sailed steadily towards New Vantania. Named after the Roman goddess of funerals, the Nænia was only one vessel of the Commonwealth flotilla bound for the country. The fleet was a fearsome sight on the high seas, composed of superdreadnoughts, battleships, destroyers, frigates, submarines, and, of course, aircraft carriers.

Flags fluttering in the salty, maritime breeze, the fleet proceeded towards Vantanian territory, with a single transmission being dispatched to the empress, reading:

IC:

New Imperial Palace, Free Empire

"Your Magnifence, Leaguesmen are leading rebel forces in taking over several small towns and villages in the rugged mountainous areas. What should we do?" a general said, his head bowed.

To this, Prazsac lost her temper. "You waste my time with such a foolish question? Send the provincial guard to crush the traitors immediantly! Now get out of my sight!"

"By your command." the General said, going to fulfill the orders. Half an hour later, provincial guardsmen marched on the various towns and villages seized by the terrorist commandos that had infiltraited the country.

City of New Gibraltar, New Gibraltar

"Defend the barricade!" screamed a rebel, spraying down AK-74 fire on the loyalists as they finished off the resistance in the final trench line. The scene was one of gore and blood. Mutilated corpses of the rebels as they were killed by bullets and bayonets lay in the thin strips of land between rebels, where they had been further trampled. Meanwhile, the attacking loyalists corpses mostly lay at the stakes in front of the trenches, the forces in the back pushing forward the doomed frontline. Their bloods mixed in the now deserted trenches, which had anywhere from three to twelve inches of the stuff in them.

The loyalists started scrambling up the barricades, their steps causing debris to tumble down and bury them, adding them to the barricades. Suddenly, music started playing from the northside of the barricade, the loyalists' side. With a sickening realization, the rebels saw schoolchildren weilding bats, tennis rackets, text books, baseballs, rocks, and various other school-esque weaponry. The band children played a marching tune, as the students started throwing rocks and other such things at the loyalists.

Angered, the loyalists forgot the rebels for now, charging at the children. With a scream, the rebels renewed the intensity of their attack, determined to save the children.

Or, if you're feeling adventurous, you can work to put down the rebellion in the colonies, such as the Yarkai colony and the Cazelian protectorate. We feel you will enjoy putting down the rebels here.

"Our forces will move south to seize Derenton Freehold and the surrounding area. We will take equipment to arm 100,000 rebels in the area and unleash them on the remaining government forces once we have seized the city. In addition, I have sent word to the Colonial Army in Vetalian New Scotland to invade and occupy the Vontanas concession for the rebellion. We have 1,000,000 experience troops in that army along with a naval task force, and should have no problem in overcoming the enemy."

Within a day, the forces were ready to move out again and set sail for Derenton Freehold. The massive fleet moved out towards the southern territory to initiate the next phase of the rebellion, and would arrive in no more than a week.

Meanwhile, in New Scotland

The Colonial Army began to rapidly mobilize for deployment in the Vantanan colony, loading their troops and vehicles on to transports for movement south to the territory. The naval command group would provide air and sea support while the troops fought their way inland. These forces would arrive in no more than three days, ideally diverting attention from the Vetalian movements closer to the country proper. If things went well, both objectives would be completed within two weeks.

OOC: Yes, yes you can. Small towns and villages. Yup.

"Well it was only a matter of time. We will set up an ambush for them in the nearvy hills and evacuate the town." Rev. Anderson said into his cellphone as he was informed of the provincial guard's impending attack by agents in one of the nearby cities still under loyalist control. "If we die, get the civilians to safety."

He closed the phone and looked down at the group of bound and gagged government officials and police officers sitting on the floor. "Unfortunately, some of your soldiers are going to attack this town, so we will need to move you. You will be taken to a nearby port, and given the options to emigrate to another country where you will be watched by League members, or to remain in a nearby hotel under guard for the remainder of the war. Please do not resist, as we will be forced to injure you if you do." He nodded to the men guarding them, and they were escorted out of the building. The Reverend walked out into the town square, where some citizens had gathered.

"The Vantanian provinical guard is heading for this town, with the intention of retaking it and killing any rebels still here. My men and I are going to set up an ambush for them in the nearby hills. Any who wish to join us should speak to one of my men, who will give you a weapon and instructions. We are open to suggestions, as unfortunately we do not know the terrain. The rest of you should evacuate, you may use our vehicles if you need to. Take only what you can carry, for the provinical guard will be here soon."

He went back into the police station, looking to see if the police had any weaponry in their armory that the rebels could use.

Meanwhile, at a nearby port, several cargo ships pulled into the harbor. On them however, was not cargo, but thousands of AL fighters, who began disembarking. Their equipment was identical to that of Sumguaian soldiers with the exeption of the uniforms.

Internalized flight deck
HMS Nænia
Offshore Kneece

A blue-uniformed air marshal slowly paced the hard, cold surface of the vessel's flight deck, perusing the hundreds of B1B Lancer bombers waiting to be deployed. In front of the air marshal were the dozens of wing commanders who would lead those bombers on their missions against the rebel forces.

"Pilots of the Royal Air Force, it is time," the air marshal declared proudly. "Time to serve Crown and Consul, as you swore to do the day you recieved your commission. The Vantanian capital, Golddale, has been overrun by insurrectionary forces. It is time to cleanse the scourge from Golddale. You have your orders from the Ministry of War. Do what your country needs you to do. Ex corona, æquitas! Extolleraya le Catholiquenarii!"

***

Fifteen minutes later, five hundred and fifty stealth fighter jets were unleashed, and, behind them, over three thousand B1B Lancer bombers, and, even further back, three hundred AC-130 gunships, flew towards Golddale; as soon as they were within range, Storm Shadow cruise missiles were unleashed from the fighters, soaring towards any and all air defence positions and airbases within the capital. Now their only job was to provide cover for the rest of the aircraft.

"They probably expect us to hit them from the land." the commander of the guardsmen said, looking at the village through binoculars. "Quite the contrary, actually." said his companion, standing next to him outside the jeep. "Yes, our air force is more then capable of destroying them. We can only assume that the religious fundamentalists that have seized the town have killed the good residents there. So, there's no reason to go easy on the scum. Full bombing raid."

With a click of a radio and a few words, two bombers with incendiary bombs flew over the League's town, dropping the flames onto the foe.

New Gibraltar

The loyalists stormed towards the children, who held their ground heroically. Bayonets met flesh. The band kids charged into the loyalists with their tubas, stabbing them with their flutes, and whacking them with their trumpets. Gym students battered the oppresors with tennis rackets and baseball bats. Chemistry kids through beakers of acid over the other children's heads, and the thugs shined brightest of all, their combat knives killing the most of all. Yet, it was still a massacre, the young revolutionaries torn to shreds by the loyalists. Still, their deaths had bought the rebels enough time to call for reinforcments, which strengthened the barricades considerably.

Golddale

The city had been fortified considerably, anti-aircraft and surface-to air-missles prepared, buildings reinforced, bomb shelters established, and barrage balloons set up. Sirens wailed loudly, civilians running into the underground protection. The proper aerial defences on the surface started firing off rounds at the enemy, determined to have them destroyed. Three confiscated airships floated majestically into the air, smaller bee-sized dots zipping around them as the fighters flew forwards to engage, the airships budding along closely. The airships were uniquely Vantanian, thick armor everywhere, armed with magnificent turrets and missles, for that was the Vantanian way. What naval power was to the British Londinians, aerial power was to the Vantanians.

Hundreds of cruise missiles slammed into the rebel SAM positions, taking out batteries throughout the countryside and suburbs, though they were a moment too late. Volleys of ground-to-air missiles flew up into the darkening skies, seeking out the waves of fighters. Pilots violently swerved out of their paths, deploying as many decoys as possible. Still, though several dozen missiles found their target, engulfing over fifty jets in balls of fire.

The remaining fighters, though, quickly regrouped, and, in loose formation, released their remaining smart bombs and missiles at the SAM batteries nestled within the concrete jungle of downtown Golddale.

The bomber and gunship waves were only minutes away from reaching their targets; it was imperative that as many SAMs as possible be eliminated.

Smart bombs though they were, they were not human. Decoys were deployed in such a quantity that even the smart bombs could not help but get confused. That, along with the strategic positioning of the defences, in forested parks and behind buildings, helped the bombs from not being eliminated, fourty-five falling to the Londinian's wrath.

The airships and fighters had come within range of the Londinian fighters. The airship at the head, the HMS Victorious, launched a devastating attack, soon joined by the other forces of the fleet. Missles and shells soon arced their way towards the Londinians, the bony fingers of Death's grasp.

Thomas looked at the girl from earlier, resting in her coma, the machinery teaching her playing silent due to earmuffs. Her name was Greta, according to the nurse. His own tests kept him in this hole in the ground, and he spent his free time in here, looking at her. She was beautiful, and her pre-Rebellion record was very encouraging. Doctor Burkle was so inefficient, he could have been out of this pit much quicker if it wasn't for his slowness.

Little did he know, Doctor Burkle was silently observing him, noting it in the mental category. The boy had been much more timid according to his records, and the Geneforge seemed to have changed this as well. Of course, he hadn't actually spoken to her yet, but he was sure they would. He made a note to station them together once they could leave.

New Scotland

The Vetalian army and fleet were now only a few dozen miles from landing in the Vantanian territory in New Scotland. The large armada, headed by a trio of Davidson-class superdreadnoughts, drew ominously closer and closer to the territory, backed by the might of the Colonial Army, whose transports moved along with the fleet like a school of thousands of steel fish. A key strategic advantage of this local military was that it was supported locally, thanks mainy to the abundant resources and economic might of Vetalian New Scotland. As a result, it was not reliant on a vulnerable overseas supply line like forces operating on other fronts.

Offer of Surrender

By order of HRH Emperor Valerian I of the Empire of Vetalia, the territories of Vantanian New Scotland are hereby ordered to surrender to our forces. The conditions of this surrender are as follows:

1. The institution of a government loyal to Vetalia and the rebel forces under the command of Erika Redmark. This government will initially be headed by our occupation force and will transfer to a civilian governmnet at the earliest opportunity. However, Vetalian forces will not be withdrawn

2. The demobilization of any government military forces in the area and the complete surrender of government officials to the Vetalian government. In addition, all military equipment is to be turned over to our forces for the use of the rebels.

Security restrictions and martial law will be temporarily imposed following our takeover, but the right of Vantanian citizens to travel or to leave the territory will not be impeded. In addition, civilian emergency services will not be interrupted to ensure a smooth transition.

The message was wired to the government, and the ships drew closer and closer to dispel any illusion that these demands were a bluff. Either way, the territory would be captured...the decision would be up to the Vantanians as to how they would respond to the threat.

The black swarm of B1 Lancers and AC-130 gunships finally began to materialize over Golddale, their sheer numbers (in the thousands) blotting out the sun, casting an ominous shadow over the capital city. Londinian fighters, already weaving between scores of enemy fighters, rushed to protect the vulnerable vessels, firing as many missiles as possible at the rebel fighters, and, when those were exhausted, unleashing their powerful machine guns at both airship and attack fighter alike. Already, a further fifteen aircraft had been lost, but, with the slightest luck, no more would be lost.

The two hundred Lancers towards the front of the bomber formation were not bombers in the least - they were arsenal planes, modified Lancers designed to serve as a "missile truck". These aircraft let loose hundreds upon hundreds of missiles into the air, seeking out all enemy aircraft. Meanwhile, the remaining two thousand, eight hundred Lancers unleashed thousands, hundreds of thousands, of gravity bombs and fuel air bombs upon Golddale, targeting not only the few remaining military installations, but schools, hospitals, subway stations, power plants, water treatment plants, former government installations, cultural landmarks - in effect, anything that could possibly be considered valuable.

Golddale

It was a black and fiery day over Golddale, streaks of fire in the sky, the sun blotted out in this great battle. Meanwhile, on the ground, buildings burned, their owners hiding in the bomb shelters. The smoke rose in thick pillars, blotting out the vision of the pilots as they flitted about and caused the death of their foes.

James Gordon's fingers flew like wild, the thick smoke forcing him to rely on the machines entirely for the combat, and right now they were showing an enemy bomber ahead of him. He grimaced, get a lock and firing a missle at it, hitting nothing but a patch of superheated smoke. A split second later, his computer started beeping showing a Londinian jet dangerously close. The airspace was so crowded, he wouldn't have time to jump away even if he wanted to. With a roar, two fiery balls crossed paths before dimming as they fell to the city below.

Meanwhile, on the HMS Juggernaught, flames and smoke came out, adding to the smog that already filled the battlefield, the captain sat grimly. The bomb, larger and more powerful then most other Greek Napalm* bombs, sat above the salvaged feul as the airship steadily sank towards the cityscape. The aerosailors had all evacuated, most likely the majority of them were not going to survive, even with the parawings. The Vantanian jets scattered away from the airship, the other airships already at a safe distance. As they fled, the bomb erupted, a large fireball erupting in the battlescape, everything being illuminated, the flames sure to destroy Vantanian and Londinian aircraft.

Beaches of Riverrod

The Akimonadians saw the sight of a battle taking place as the loyalists tried to secure the beachfront. A flare went up into the air as the loyalists noticed the allies approaching. Artillery shells blasted away at the loyalists defences, who were hiding under a cliff overhanging, bits of dirt raining on them as they desperatly tried to fortify their position, meanwhile retaliating in kind with over the horizon tank fire.

The Barricades, New Gibraltar

Their was grunting, and then a cheer, as ovens, chairs, and various other heavy things fell onto the loyalist soldiers who were so dangerously close to the top of the barricade. There was screaming as they were hit, or buried beneath the corpses of their fallen brethren. Still, it was only a few more deaths, a bit more time. The barricades had to be abandoned, the loyalists had taken them. No matter, the rebels fled west to the last standing bridge spanning the might canal that divided poor from rich.

The loyalists finally reached the top of the barricade, bloody and tired. They were low in number, the mighty aristocrats no source of help for them. The rebels were another case, brave men and women constantly coming in waves of reinforcments with mere slingshots to RPGs as their weapons. If they fell, then New Gibraltar would stay a slave state of the Free Empire. But, if they succeeded, then New Gibraltar could easily be taken from there, it's trade resources bringing much needed funds to the Rebellion.

"Very well, if they want war, we will give it to them. Admiral, order the fleet to begin coastal bombardment and scramble the planes for air defense. We will commence shore landings once the coastline has been secured."

"Yes, Fleet Admiral."

With that, the surface fleet moved in to attack position and started bombarding the coastline with shells while targeted missiles were launched from batteries on the cruisers and destroyers. The shells were targeted at the stationary defenses and structures along the coast while the missiles were targeted at any identified anti-air or anti-ship defenses along the coastline.

Roughly 1,000 missiles and several hundred shells per hour were fired towards the coastline. Based upon the munitions stored on board the ships, this bombardment could be kept up for eight hours without resupply.

Port of Import, Republic of Everdunes

There was only one way into Everdunes, and that was through the Port of Import. Sure, their was vast tracts of undefended beaches, but beyond that lay only mountains of sand as far as the eye could see, and an invading army would likely run out of supplies before making it to the first of the inner cities of the Nomads and Cave-Dwellers. There was also the Port of Export, but the path their was extremely treacherous even to a modern navy, and no sane man would try to go through there, although getting out was much easier.

And so, in effect, the battle scene had been chosen already by nature. The specks, growing ever larger, on the sea and horizon were many in number. The three castes, cave-dweller, merchant, and nomad, had all gathered their respective armies, light but speedy cave craft joining the mercantile navy of the merchants. An array of men stood in various uniforms, guns at hand, listening to the speech of the coalition commander, before scrambling for defense positions in buildings.

The Vetalians had arrived, a fierce sight, the hydrosailors knowing instantly that they would die holding back the onslaught. Timidly, they launched everything they had at the Vetalians, which wasn't much. The smaller shells, designed more for threatening pirates then anything else, rained briefly on the foe, before the fleet was cut down. Meanwhile, artillery shells behind fortifications, the infamous sand in a burlap bag primarily, fired similar shells. Though they might survive the shelling, they would not in any way sway the tide of the naval battle.

The Coasts of Riverrod

The blood soaked the ground, drenching it and turning it into a sort of swamp land. The loyalist forces that the Akimonads teamed up with stormed the rebel positions, sufficiently weakened, their artillery lying twisted amongst the wreckage. There it was found that the rebels retreated to defend more important locations. Riverrod was descending into Hell, the loyalists having seized the beach and the Londinians blasting apart Golddale. It looked like a bad day for the Rebellion.

A single man, waving about a white flag, all arms stripped from him and laying in basic camoflage, no weapons what so ever. He had golden hair, and a muscular build. He looked to the Akimonads for mercy.

Eastforge

She stirred, if only slightly. Her eyes fluttered, and met his. The frosty blue eyes startled her at first, and she forgot where she was. With a gasp, she pulled away from him, nearly falling out of the bed, "Where am I?" she asked. Then, with a start, she remembered it all in a flash. "You’re Thomas aren't you? The first one to use the Geneforge?"

Thomas nodded silently, before outstretching his hand. She grasped it timidly, and anyone else would have recoiled at the coldness the Geneforge ensued, except a user of the Geneforge itself. He helped her out of bed, and led her to her room to change, explaining to her what had happened as he knew from experience and what Burkle had told him. Once inside, she changed into an elegant robe and walked out. Then, he took her to the cafeteria for real food, and to chat. His curiousity concerning her was immense, and he could feel his heartbeat increase as her hand slipped into his.

She walked deliberatly, reflecting her farmgirl background, an rural elegance about her. Her hair was wavy and chestnut brown. Her smile was far from white, yet still manicured to the full extent a commoner could afford. She was not as strong as him, yet her intelligence far surpassed his, and though he didn't know it, she was playing games with him. The man was kind, and the bits of knowledge her games provided her with were all positive. Her heart warmed at his poorly concealed affection.

The next day they started the journey to the eastern coast of Riverrod, to fight in the Last Stand of Riverrod, which now seemed inevitable.

Port of Import, Everdunes

The light fire from the enemy fleet had inflicted mild damage, disabling guns on some of the battlecruisers and sinking several transports, but the majority of the fleet remained fully operational and continued opening fire on the port, unloading shells at the enemy defensive positions and launching missiles at buildings with hostile targets inside.

The troops continued their advance on to the shore, only losing a few thousand so far and all but several hundred of them wounded. Some additional losses, three frigates and two transports, were inflicted by the fortified artillery, and as a result the Vetalian navy began to unload another round of missiles and shells at the Everdune defenses to further weaken the enemy's resistance.

In addition, the commander of the Vetalian fleet sent orders to the naval high command to send another task force to seal off the Port of Export. Even if they could not invade the port, they could cut off its trade and thereby weaken the Everdune economy by cutting off its flow of capitol from outside.

The attack was fierce, the Everdunians falling everywhere, the great artillery becoming twisted bits of flaming metal. The Everdunians that had survived the bombardment on the artillery now lay under sand bags, the point of their sniper rifles pointing out, taking out rebel forces with rampant disregard. They were soon silenced by the sound of yet another rain of shells.

The Everdunians mounted urban combat, but aerial supremacy soon had their city in ruins. A message was sent out the simplest way possible to the rebel forces, a white flag being raised everywhere possible. In a single battle, the Rebellion had gained a powerful source of men and trade.

Riverrod

The invasion was terrifying in the sheer bloodshed to regain Golddale. Farmers across the rocky crags of the province mounted resistance after resistance, burning their crops, houses, arming themselves to the bone, and fighting over each little parcel of land. The invaders found themselves finally passed the final hill top, Golddale's magnifagence before them. The beauty of the scene was cut short, however as the flames and smoke rose, the final shooting star of the loyalist aerial attack blinked out.

General Crowley ordered immediate bombardment with Godhammers, the nuclear artillery shells raining onto the weary city. The blazes consumed the city, aided by a second air raid sending down incendiaries. The mighty Emerald Palace slagged and fell, it's secrets lost in the pyre. Only the embassies were given sufficient protection, saved from the fire. Riverrod had fallen to the force of the loyalists.

The battle at the eastern coast would go done in history, the prospectives fine tuned for a stand as the refugees fled to Ashen. Surprisingly, the Vikings, Spartans, Celts, Samurai, all different groups of those that had used the Geneforge, emerged victorious. The body of thousands of loyalists and rebels piled on the beach. Startled by their victory, they charged deeper into Riverrod, taking the province back with little resistance.

OOC: Sure. Either you or I can post the thread, no big deal.

Port of Import

Although the Vetalian forces had taken the city, losses were heavy. Of the 1,000,000 troops sent ashore in the landing, 10,500 were killed and over 100,000 wounded, although all but 3,300 would be able to recover without any long-term impediments to their combat effectiveness. Most of the ships and transports had suffered mild damage as well, and 350 Nakil MBTs were destroyed and another 4,200 damaged. However, the bulk of the forces were in good shape and quickly worked to secure the port, while the naval fleet put down anchor at the entrance to the bay and began to survey the damage done in the fighting.

At 12:00, the Vetalian army raised its flag and the flag of the Vantanian rebellion on all public flagpoles in the city, and Admiral Starov and his command took up residence in the city. For the foreseeable future, the area would be administered by the army and would then be transferred to civilian rule under the command of the rebellion, or likely, the new government.

Soon after the formal transfer of power, the army quickly set to work disarming and holding the enemy, with large camps hastily constructed to hold the prisoners of war. However, since the territory was mostly cut off from external supplies and the enemy was generally not putting up heavy resistance, the vast majority of the prisoners were released immediately. Within a week, only a handful of the high command, the civilian government of the territory, and any wounded that required additional medical treatment remained in the facilities.

Three days after the fall of Import, the Vetalian government proclaimed the new Interim Government of Everdunes, an ad-hoc occupation regime designed to accelerate the rebuilding and recovery of the territories prior to the transfer of power to civilians. Military patrols were securing the countryside, but the dry and empty expanses offered little to secure.

Port of Export

Several days after the fall of Import, a task force and 25,000 Vetalian troops arrived at the port to secure it and establish a forward base for the regional occupation. This facility soon became a major supply base for the Colonial Army and naval task forces, mainly supplying them with crude oil, fuel, and water for use in the hot deserts that surrounded the city.

Over the ensuing weeks, the approximately 900,000 troops remaining in the territory were scheduled to be gradually returned to their homes in Vetalian New Scotland, with only 125,000 tasked to remain in the territory until a civilian government was in place. However, given the security situation in the territory it was possible this program might be delayed, although the lack of direct threats to the territories made it unlikely any serious problems would arise.

The freedom from inane laws, the right to live how they wanted, was brilliant. And so, without a single bullet or rocket, the Space Dominions had swayed to the side of the Rebellion. And with them came the power of orbital bombardment.

Within thirty minutes of the request, godrods rained down on major military bases, grounding the air force and decapitating rapid response forces.

New Gibraltar

The loyalists shoved against the shields, falling to Spartan style bayonet prods. Dismayed, they pulled back, preparing to throw grenades over the heads of the rebels and destroy the shield formation. With a single, bellowing command, the heavy shields were thrown forward, catching the loyalists off balance and sending the first line to the ground. Gunfire soon hit the unsuspecting second lines, and all the lines after that, as the rebels led a bayonet charge.

The loyalists retreated in full, shooting their comrades trying to stop the retreat. They fell in droves, scaling up the barricade to safety to fight with a substantial barrier between the two foes. With cheers and jeers, a button on the side of a wall was pressed, the barricade exploding violently and ablaze, the fireworks used as the foundation detonated explosively.

New Gibraltar, with the loyalist garrison destroyed, was soon completely seized, the butlers turning on their masters and finishing the rebellion, here at least. And with that, the Free Empire's naval might shifted hands to the Rebellion, the ships sailing to other colonies, assisting rebels, before leading the Rebel Colonial Fleets back to provincial Great Vantania, the mainland and Kneece.

Kneece

Though a celebrated province, they were barely developed, and in an economic sag due to the sudden loss of work. When the Rebellion had started, the Free Empire had pulled much of the naval forces away to fight in Riverrod and protect the mainland provinces.

As such, when the fleet arrived, the foe put up little resistance. Blasting away at the enemy capitol, soon they had surrendered.

The fight was now only at the mainland.

Krizsan, Democratic Empire

The scene was grizzly. A group of aritocrats and news anchors watched as Prazsac slowly, with the grace of a princess, bowed her head. With a sadistic laugh, the Executioner pulled the lever, the blade descending with a flash of light, which would later be said to be Prazsac's soul. The head dropped into the basket, clean and still retaining some of it's former beauty. Crows and ravens fluttered into the sky against the light flurry of snow, looking down on the corpse and the heavily dressed men. The church bells stopped ringing, and a few people burst into tears.

The Week Before

A hurricane covered Great Vantania, thunder bolts causing fire to spread rapidly. Rain came down in great sheets, drenching everything with the seeds of life, ephemerals blossoming across the warscape.

Complete air superiority had been established, the ports of the nation had been seized. People joined from every city, town, and village, most not even bothering to make a stand for the Falling Empire. The Fall had come and gone. The Free Empire was dead, the Democratic Empire in it's place.
