BL votes to restore monarchy

Elizabeth Victoria Wellington, the sole survivor of the Londinian royal family, and future empress of the country.

In a national referendum held Tuesday, British Londinium overwhelmingly voted to restore the national monarchy, which disappeared during the 2006 invasion by Automagfreek.

Tuesday's referendum was the culmination of eight years of loyalist sentiment calling for the restoration of the Londinian sovereign, which was abolished during the reconstitution of British Londinium during the occupation.

The royal family's demise was brought about when Queen Hemali I was killed by a Freekish bombing run on Xankandi; the ensuing chaos prompted in fighting between her heirs, which, in the end, resulted in their deaths.

The referendum ensured the passing of the Monarchic Restoration Constitutional Act, which replaces the office of President with the monarchy. The duties of the Crown would be no different from the roles of the modern President, and, for the most part, the restoration would have minimal effect upon the day-to-day workings of the country.

Ms Wellington is slated to become Empress Elizabeth IV of the People's Sovereign Empire of British Londinium by the end of next week, though she will serve, along with her Atlantian husband, Emperor Charles III, as only the nominal head of state.

The Free Empire would like to be the first to congratulate the monarchy. Unfortunately, you don't always get what you want. Still, congratulations.

I would like to congrulate the People's Sovereign Empire of British Londinium and its people on their decision to restore their monarchy.

As a constitutional sovereign myself, I firmly believe that the historical ties of honor, loyalty and love between a monarch, and his or her people, are invaluable to national pride and leadership and should never be severed. On behalf of my nation and its people, I wish Empress Elizabeth IV a long and successful reign as the monarch of the Londinian people.

Most sincerely,
HRH King Aelkyn of Altanar

People's Sovereign Empire is an oxymoron, especially when said empire is ruled over by an unelected, hereditary monarch. It would be prudent to alter the name to something more reflective of your country's true status. Queen's Sovereign Empire, perhaps?

While I would love nothing more than to offer congratulations, I am afraid that doing so would make me a liar also.

OFFICIAL IMPERIAL STATEMENT

The Imperium disapproves of this step backwards; but a short time after the dissolution of EVIL and the wisdom of the Londinian government in acceding to Lord Dreadfire's demands, the Londinians have now voted to restore a monarchy which by its very nature inspires resentment, if not hatred, towards Automagfreek. Moreover, we consider it the highest foolishness to allow a mere woman to rule an industrialized country.
