Breaking at the seams, the loose socialist confederations of Zhylatska collapse in upon themselves. The former popular Anarcho-Communist faction, the Makhnovachina, have lost much of it's support as free speech and though has led to the breeding of a highly factionalized territory. The Makhnovists are still highly popular and the largest of the factions, but a considerable amount of territory has gone to other factions. It is beleived the first fired by those in league with Sergei Vassily, the former Head of RIAZ, the armed forces of Zhyolatska, when he rebelled. Nations are called on by various people to lend aid however they can, food drops, and some may seek to help a side that can be beneficial to them gain control of the region.
It is not a time for speeches, nor thinking, nor debating
It is a time for action
Makhnovist:Illyusha Verkhotsov, Hero of the Revolution.(former government)
Igovianism: Vladimir Buschenko, Scholar.
Communism, Statist: Sergei Vasseily, head of RIAZ (Revolutionary Insurrectionist Army of Zhyolatska )
Capitalism: Oslav Petrovich
Autonomism(favors the breaking of Zhyolatska into smaller self governing independent states, factories are their own political entities but run entirely by workers.): Alexei Romakov
New Socialism: Gregory Ouronov
and finally, the very minimal, not present within the state, few supporters who are survivors of the Zaporzhizhya attack and with a small private army, government in exile:
Fascism/Militarist Nationalism: Joseph Androvich (ex head-of-state, ousted in the revolution)

The people are not really confined to a region, it's more so prevailing ideologies and party control. remember, these are idologies and parties fighting, not ethnicities or regions ;)
IC:
Violence erupts in the major port of Skoya, militant Igovians within the city have unleashed a hellstorm of bombings, gunning down makhnovist civilians in bars or shoppes in a quick and relatively contained area of violence, they seem to have no objective, other than to cause as much damage as possible. only 15 of the civilian casualties are confirmed at this moment. In response the makhnovists have launches several Qassam rockets into the Igovian city of mariupol' and move to push the southern RIAZ north into Communist terrtory, focusing on hitting Igovian territory with reciprocal terror strikes.
in the north the autonomists have managed to convert several towneships and farms from capitalist control and arm their collectives into small militias. in order to stave off any otside military control, the autonomists prefer, it seems, to take a more hedgehog style of defense...
The Communists under Sergei Vasseily and his RIAZ defectors take some 34 Khosin Super-tanks and push into makhnovist territory, shifting their SAMS for use on ground targets, firign them like dumb missiles and make a militarist push in a general south and western direction.
The current military power is the Makhnovist faction, but the first of the supplies begin to arrive in neosocialist territories which they immediately put to use besieging the autonomists.
The militarist nationalists however, under ex-president Joseph androvich, make a general push into the rebuilt Zaporozhizhya, taking control of the territory on the other side of the Dneiper. Already the cossack hosts begin to welcome them back, and the ZNP (Zhyolatskan Nationalist party) organizes it's army as it prepares to make a push across the river.

"Anybody surprised?"
Qusay looked around at the gathered officers of the Denomination of Foreign Diplomacy's covert arm. Nobody replied.
"Yeah, me neither. The only way the Communists were able to squeeze out a victory in the first war was through the nuclear attack on Zaporzhizhya, and the Baltic surprise attack. And we all know that they won't be a problem this time around. Frankly, I'm suprised it took this long for the Zhyolatskan communists to fall apart.... Anyway, Commander Zaki, I believe that your men have a recommendation for us all?"
"Yes." replied the older, portly spymaster. "Though we supported the faction led by Androvich in the first war, there's not much left of them at this point. Besides, Petrovich's new faction is by all accounts closer to what we'd like to see in charge anyway. I propose we start putting some of the staggering arms surplus we're sitting on right now to good use. The main problem will be arranging safe and secure transportation, but I've had a few men working on that..."
"Excellent. Central Command was clearly favoring Petrovich's faction as well, though that may change if the Nationalists experience a resurgence. Anyway, we have the green light from them to establish contact. Commander Zaki, that will fall to you again. Now, let's start discussing exactly what help we are prepared to offer..."

Manth wishes to renew its opposition to communism in Zhyolatska, and to finally liberate the Zhyolatskan people from the oppressive yoke it has labored under for these past years. We regret having to withdraw our support during the first civil war, but our armies have thrown back the Baltic invaders and even now bring destruction to their homeland - the events of the first civil war will not repeat themselves.
As such, we are willing to offer Manthian support in obtaining whatever you may need - money, weapons, goods, or whatever else is necessary to see Zhyolatska free once more.

One day after pledging its support in the Zhyolatskan revolution to the Igovians, the USSZ has sent the 10,000 men of the 12th Spetsnaz Airborne Division into Skoya. Parachuting out of C-130 Hercules transports, the 12th took the town and surrounding area, securing it for the local Igovian militants. When asked of it, SrLt. Brezhnev-Rikkard remarked "The Igovian revolution will continue to spread throughout the nations of this world. We will spread its ideals and ensure equality for all." By now, the New Socialists, lead by Gregory Ouronov, had recieved large amounts of weapons courtesy of The World Soviet Party. Everything was set for a winter offensive.
By the looks of the war maps, the autonomists would be the firsts to go. All avaliable artillery was concentrated on the border, so were most of the armoured regiments (recently formed with soviet tanks and IFVs), all ready to get moving as soon as the attack started.
At dawn, the combined roar of the mighty Soviet guns would make itself heard, and soon, the Blitzkrieg would commence.

With the combined forces of the 12th SA and the 8th Armored Division(which was deployed last night) the forces of the USSZ started a major offensive today in an attempt to take back territory from rivals of the Igovian faction. "While declaring themselves Communists, our foes are really false Communists." said Marshal Lonieda, "They are in reality nothing but power-hungry dictators-in-training." Among other subjects in his speech last night, Lonieda mentioned the ongoing aid sent to Zhyolatskan civilians. "The USSZ stands firm in its aid of the peoples of Zhyolatska. This conflict is terrible, but we are here to help them manage." Since the beginning of the conflict, the People's Air Forces of Zintharia (PAFZ) have dropped over 100 million tons of supplies, and refugees are invited to temporarily relocate to the USSZ.
The Editor would like to personally welcome all refugees to the USSZ, and would like them to know that if they want to tell of their story, they may contact him.

Finally, the time came.
All along the border, guns fired in unison, destroying autonomist lines and causing havoc behind enemy lines, the recently recieved MiGs swooped from the skies, raining death to the enemies of the revolution.
Then the bombardment ended... and that's when the tanks came, hundreds of armoured vehicles crossed the first line of defense, followed by thousands of troopers to annihilate any resistance, no prisioners were taken and the slaughter was terrific.
At the cost of a few hundred casualties, the New Socialists had started the war and advanced a good 40 or so kilometers into enemy territory.

Time slowed for Leonid Abramova His brother, Il'ya charged forth from the church and began firing madly at the Neosocialist line, he must have put only three or four rounds into the line before a gun blew him to a chunk of gore and an arm.
His village was burning all around him, his brother was dead, and all he could think about was his own life as shells fell around him. He was a young boy, only about 15, he was almost crying because of the fear that gripped him. His knuckles were white as a winter snow ashe dug his fingers into the wooden grip of his PPS-43. Still he found it within him to lift himself from behind the wall of his house and lower the gun sights on one of his countrymen. As he first squeezed the trigger the gun seemed like it would not fire, until enough pressure was applied to cause the gun-barrel to explode with fire as it spewed out shells at the infantry line. The recoil was unexpected, the gun seemed almost to vomit the shells rather than fire them. He could not close his eyes as he saw the shells hit the plains with bursts of dust, and he could not turn away as he heard them tear through men. He could not even blink before a return fire shell caught him under his left shoulder. Another ripped a gash across his cheek. seven more struck the wall around him.
Recoiling in pain, he returned to cowering behind the wall.
Like Leonid and his brother, the "Farmsmen" being "butchered" at the border villaige of M'kaseya were fighting like the devil had possessed them. They hid in buildings, in old churches, in furrows on the farms, they fired shells from their panzershrecks, they attacked with grenades. The artillery guns may have pounded them, but they bit back like rats cornered. Behind the border, the militia were rallying into units preparing to defend themselves, they put up ramshackle fortifications, dug foxholes, whatever they could get for defense on the steppe.
Meanwhile, north of Cherniv, men were being brought in from all over some, 2,000 were assembled with their horses, and given Mosin Nagants or Ak-47s.
The Cherniv Host was born. It would ride across the northernmost border and push behind the line the next dawn.

The New Socialist People's Militia was far from a cohesive fighting force, but if there was one thing they knew how to do, was to fight madly.
Of course, this didnt mean they werent caught by surprise from the Autonomist reataliation, but alas, they managed to keep control of the situation, after all, what can a WWII-Panzershrek do to a T-90 besides scratching the paintjob?
Still, the Resistance was a force to reckoned with, IFVs and APCs were now patrolling in search for armed strongpoints, ready to give the signal for a crushing artillery strike before dismounting and mopping up the survivors.
This could be said for Leoniv as well, as the man behind his first "kill" happened to be carrying a rocket launcher, which he promptly fired at his position.

((Double for the OOC: Just a reminder to people participating militarily... My country sucks. The closest thing to a professional army is what Sergei Vasseily has. the bulk really have little experience in combat, especially in the north, in the south and the east, where the battlefields of the first civil war were, there are more experienced troops, but still not so experienced. The terrain is flat, there's little-to-no cover for infantry, and all factions are left in economic ruin from trying to pay to arm and feed their people. Also, although the revolutionary has shifted away from unity, it is still strong, and with no control on guns, even small villages will put up a fight. However, as for actual armies, population is limited, something to bear in mind as "hundreds of tanks" are sent to small regions =P

Ah, the sight of a large group of horses running AT you is enough to break the spirit of most men, and indeed, most men did run. Losing discipline means, of course, getting shot by your enemy and getting shot by your enemy means death.
Yes, many died due to the "cossack style" attacks, but then again, what match is a horse to a Heavy Machine-Gun? Needless to say, horse meat would be a welcomed dish by the New Socialist People's Militia, and now, with the Wanderjarian boost, they'd be more than capable of fielding enough forces to turn the tide of any battle, or war if necessary.
These horsemen would be taken care of in due time, for the moment, the People's Militia consolidated it's gains and kept a steady advance, with a portion of the invading force doing recon in specially armed IFVs which would deal with any little horsey that got in it's way.

The people abandon their homes and move into camps, they remain constantly on the move eating what they can, striking when most opportune, they raid what they need for supplies the southern region becomes one of almost refugee militia, as whole towns break into roaming camps of Guerrilla fighters. the region is taken, but not pacified
in the northern region however where Cherniv lies, the forces are more modernized, and use the sacrifice of their kinsmen in the south to organize into more ordered armies, they ready some of their SCUDs, they prepare their artillery and Khosin Supertanks, they convert any vehicles into the city into technicals, and they prepare to fight for their very lives.
A chunk of the makhnovist region to the south of the neosocialist and autonomist regions breaks off to join the neo-socialists, who now also control the southern autonomist region.
Inspired by the Autonomist resistance, parts of the Zaporizhizhya region across the Dneiper from the militarist have exploded in support of the autonomist movement.\

Skoya, Zhyolatska
Rounding a corner, Sergeant Burns jumped back behind it just in time to avoid the gunfire that came at him. Catching his breath after the sudden burst of adrenaline, he glanced in time to see two men, both wielding Mosin Nagants, reloading furiously. Taking the oppurtunity, he brought his newly-issued AK-101 to his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. A burst of 13 rounds sending them to the ground, painting the concrete around them red.
Hearing a frantic yell, he flipped around to see a man charge him with a short sword. Not having time to aim, he punched the man in the face, then shot him as he fell.
Finally getting a minute of rest, he reflected on the absurdity of the conflict. Surely a nation with this many factions in it would have found a way to keep them from fighting, but what did he know? He was a grunt in the SA. All he was supposed to do was 'Kill, Kill, Kill 'em all!'

Mikhail Lonieda sat in the Marshal's office, smoking a Red Star cigarette. The lights were off, and the only light was supplied by the moon, filtering in through the partially opened blinds. In a seat opposite him sat Senior-Lieutenant Peter Stalin Brezhnev-Rikkard, hero of the Zintharian Revolution. They had been sitting there for some time; when he'd arrived, Rikkard's watch had read 2115 hrs, and it was now 0103. They had been discussing recruitment quotas for the Spetsnaz AIrborne, but the conversation had digressed to the Zhyolatska conflict.
Sitting there, in the darkness, Lonieda took a drag from his cigarette, breathed it out. "Rikkard, do you ever wonder about your legacy?"
Startled by this sudden interruption of prolonged silence, Rikkard did little but look up. Lonieda looked up to the ceiling. "Nah, I know you don't. You're the 'Hero of the Revolution', no one's ever going to forget you." He took another drag and breathed it out. "Me on the other hand...I'm just some 'overrated' man who worked all his life for a great idea that did more harm than good, and even when I try to fix it, they get mad and secede." he sighed. "All I wanted to do was change the USSZ for the good, and here I am doing the same thing Cole did. It's pathetic."
There was silence in the room as Lonieda finished and Rikkard comprehended this. It was silent for a long time. The clock on the wall ticked off the seconds relentlessy, tick, tock, tick, tock. eventually, Lonieda cleared his throat.
"I think I"m going to resign as soon as this whole Zhyolatska conflict ends."
The Senior Lieutenant remained silent for the rest of the meeting

This was good news for the New Socialists, but, it also meant that troops would have to be diverted from the invasion to secure this new territory.
Luckily, the TPF'ian mercenaries had already arrived, and Ouronov was able to reinforce them with an extra 7,000 "soldiers" as well as several tanks and artillery batteries. They moved into the newly-acquired plot, intending to secure every city and town they could before the Makhnovists had any chance to attack.

Oslav Petrovich looked over the latest letter from the Manthians, shaking his head. Even with Manthian support, his situation was precarious. His armed forces were an unstable mix of rebels who only cared about fighting the Communists, mercenaries who only cared about their pay, and simple peasants and workers who had been conscripted and whose loyalties were dubious at best. Desertions and mutinies had plagued his forces ever since the civil war had started, as the war had understandably disrupted his factions' ability to pay and supply the troops, and men were stealing off to look after their families or strike their own ways. He knew that all the other factions were all suffering similar problems, but his men were among the least motivated. Still he had to work with what was given to him - if this chance was lost, there was a very good chance that the Communists of one stripe or another would rise to dominate Zhyolatska again, and that wasn't something he was prepared to let happen. He'd lived under the yoke long enough.
Fortunately, things were starting to look up. The Manthians had promised tens of millions of dollars worth of weapons, food and supplies, and, just as importantly, money to pay his fragile army. In all the chaos of civil war, if his factions' men were actually getting paid regularly and actually had things to spend that money on - in other words, if the capitalists could manage to start building a functioning society again - that could be invaluable in demonstrating their stability and giving them appeal to the Zhyolatskan populace. Oslav's treasury had been filled to bursting and he had finally managed to pay most of his soldiers, and the first shipments of goods and weapons were even now starting to arrive, flown in or smuggled over the porous Ukrainian border.
As soon as the internal situation began to stabilize a little, the first priority would be dealing with the autonomists to the east, a foe that had been an increasing drain on Oslav's sparse manpower and military strength. He had heard word that the autonomists were also being attacked by the Soviet-backed New Socialists, and that made this the perfect time to strike.

A truck convoy pulled across the Ukrainian border. A diffident inspection had revealed heaps of grain, and had shown the convoy to be one chartered to an obscure Sumguian human rights organization. A wad of cash passed to the Ukrainian commander of the border outpost had ensured that the soldiers didn't pry any deeper.
Now, as the trucks rolled to a stop in a capitalist-controlled town, the covers came off the backs, and men dug through the grain to find the crates hidden underneath. A burly Zhyolatskan with a crowbar cracked the first crate open, tossing the lid into a nearby bonfire. Momentarily visible through the sparks and swirling smoke were the stylized sun and lion of Manth, before the flames rose to consume them.
The capitalist soldier wasn't particularly concerned with that, though - much more interesting were the boxes' contents. Six brand-new DR-89 assault rifles lay in the crate before him, each one spotless save for the plate where the serial number had been carefully scratched out. The Zhyolatskan grinned, quickly passing them out before moving on to the next box. Assault rifles, recoilless guns, sniper rifles, ammunition, even some MANPADs.... it was all there.
Through this and many other covert channels, tens of thousands of weapons began to pour into capitalist Zhyolatska.
The Mediterranean
A Baltic fleet was attempting to reach Zhyolatska... more than enough reason to rouse the Manthian submarine fleet. Dozens of submarines at Gibraltar were given orders to sink any ship bearing Baltic colors on sight, and thirty Cartagena-class nuclear submarines were dispatched to prowl silently a short distance outside Zhyolatskan waters, to round up any Baltic or other communist ships which ran the gauntlet of the submarine-infested Mediterranean.
The Suez Canal, of course, remained closed to non-allied shipping, as it had been since the start of the Baltic war.

Concerned less with the Igovians and more with fighting off the communist break-offs, the ZASF and Makhnovists sent heir rockets and tanks to meet the Communist army. Conflict ensues as the sides turn the plains into a battlefield.
meanwhile, seeking to retain some sense of unity and keep their largest city of Skoya from being leveled, the maknovists send in a fleet of 15 tu-95 bombers to carpet bomb the Igovian-held region, while 43 ZSU anti-air move into the city in case of re-inforcements and guerrillas begin to move around the igovian region.
Meanwhile, in the igovian region, a good deal of troops are struggling against Sergei Vasseily's push into their territory, fighting against incursions which now reach some 82 KM into their territory.
neosocialists in several towneships in the new territory are pushed out as violent and militant igovians, all waving his book like a bible, take arms and turn violent, calling for immediate zintharian re-enforcements from their northern neighbor.
To secure the Zhyolatskan black sea territory, Akula subs are sent out to engage any Manthian ships they encounter.

Greetings, Petrovich, I'm sure you are wondering why me, the leader of the New Socialists, is sending you a fairly... friendly letter, well, dont worry, all questions will be answered in due time.
Now, let's cut to the chase, shall we? Good.
We, Mr. Petrovich, share common goals, we both despise the communists and the Igovianists, and it's clear that the older regime [the Makhnovists] were not strong enough to mantain this fine nation in order.
Thus, and seeing as the only way to survive and avoid being annexed is to cooperate, I propose you that we end our fighting and concentrate on the bigger foes.
I've gotten news of a planned attack on the autonomist region, something we the New Socialists are already doing. I believe we can help each other out to speed the conquest process and get on to more serious matters.
So, hear this, and let me know what you think:
Our sides we'll agree to a non-aggression pact, and to the establishment of a democracy once this war is over. To achieve that, however, we must take down our foes, starting by the Autonomists, to accomplish that, I suggest we both continue our offensives, and when we are done, we'll split the region in two (East and West) for our respective sides to administrate.
Cherniv, being the most important town in the area, should be split too, like Berlin after WWII.
After our victory, we'll be able to turn to the Makhnovists... and more importantly, those damned Igovianists and their "indian socialist labour".
You'll agree with me that we can both beneficiate from this alliance.
I await your answer.
IC:
The "Igovian" rebellion was met by the battle-hardened TPF'ian mercenaries, these men were there to be paid, not to support an ideology, but hating the Igovianists was a plus when quelling this revolt.
Any town that dared rebel against the New Socialist advance was evacuated of all it's assets and loyalists and then bombed to rubble, the mercenaries advanced killing each and every Igovian that dared cross their path, their bodies were placed on spikes and left to rot in the sun for all to see what would happen to anyone that faced the might of the socialists.

Your words sit well with me, and in truth your faction is a damn sight better in my eyes than the Igovians, the fascists, or anyone else in this mess. And it's true that if we cannot eventually stop fighting and bring peace and independent government to Zhyolatska once more, those foreigners who purport to 'help' us will end up ruling us. Democratic freedom for the people - to choose capitalist politicians or any others as they please - is exactly what I and my supporters are fighting for, and we would be glad to administer Zhyolatska under terms such as you have described.
We are indeed planning an attack on the autonomist forces. The push will start within the week. God grant, our men and yours will crush them between us, and our soldiers will meet in Cherniv before long!
The Black Sea, closest sub to Zhyolatska
"Number 31 mine deployed, coordinates are at thirty...'
Mustafa Ghazni looked up as a red light began flashing on the bridge of Boat 219.
"Another sub approaching? One of ours?"
"No, sir." a sonar operator replied. "An Akula."
"Back off, dive, dive!" the Captain snapped. "Load tubes one and two, mark threes!"
The Cartagena-class sub slowly retreated from the minefield it had been laying, to hamper any more attempts to ship supplies by sea to hostile forces in Zhyolatska, sinking rapidly towards the bottom... not that deep this close to shore. Once it was hovering a few meters above the ocean floor, it slowed to a few knots, barely making a sound as it slipped through the sea towards this new arrival.
Beddgelert
09-09-2007, 22:47
The Indian Soviet Commonwealth of Beth Gellert
"The whole race which is now called Gallic or Galatic [and now Geletian], is madly fond of war, high-spirited and quick to battle… and on whatever pretext you stir them up, you will have them ready to face danger, even if they have nothing on their side but their own strength and courage"
-Strabo
Since the seriousness of the Zhyolatskan collapse had become obvious, Indian Soviet forces had been building-up in Galle and Quetta in anticipation of a vote for their deployment in the Soviet Commune. Certainly this assemblage of men and ships could be observed by interested parties, and clearly it would take some days for the Beddgelens to travel from the Indian Ocean to the Sea of Azov.
So, then, it would probably come as some surprise to see several thousand Soviet Marines pouring on to the coast of Zholatskya, blasting Carnyx war-trumpets, their long hair and moustaches spiked and lightened with lime, half of them as close to naked as the other half were to fully armoured. Red Dragon Class strategic-grade Wing-In-Groundeffect vehicles disgorging the Marines now loomed impressively on the water's edge, some cracking away with 76mm automatic cannon and others loosing a steady stream of Mangonel land-attack cruise missiles at any identifiably anti-Igovian elements within six hundred miles of the small stretch of Igovist coastline.
A single WIG, having flown at several hundred kilometres per hour just metres from the wavetops -with little care for submarine threats-, would now leave fifteen hundred Marines with complete equipment and supplies to the weight of several hundred tonnes, and two such machines had empited themselves of such cargos. Four other Red Dragons carried thousands of tonnes of supplies in lieu of personnel, and wore extensive weaponry, inclusive of anti-air missiles and bombardment batteries.
The Commonwealth Guard had acted, it seemed, of its own accord, assuming that the civilian Soviets would vindicate its own military democracy by approving the action after the fact.
Indeed, at the same time, Raipur's Communist League was approving a multi-billion dollar budget to aid the Zholatskyan revolution, the Commonwealth lacking any other pressing foreign concerns at the moment and quite unsure of how to spend the fruits of its world-leading anti-capitalist economy.
The League, through elected spokesman Graeme Igo, warns against opposition to the Igovian revolution in Zholatskya, pointing out that it would be wise to back that particular horse when realising the lameness afflicting all other racers.
A Comrade Colonel Indomartus is shortly revealed as head of the 3,000 strong Soviet Marine deployment, and is presently establishing in the south a Red Sky ABM/SAM battalion, even as Gadar! mocks the T-90s, MiG-29s, and like inferior equipment furnished upon conservative and reactionary forces by their sponsors in treachery. The Colonel is quoted as saying that there won't be any need for the fleet to sail, since he could shoot-down a Flanker with his side-arm, and the Igovians are only outnumbered by a few hundred percent, so the current supply of Indian swords and bayonets will be sufficient to clean-up the country.
Almost ten billion Sovietists have waited uncommonly long for a chance to exercise their inate bravado, and the battle-lust runs thick in Geletian veins.

The Cabinet Room of the Cynapsian Governmental Palace was a smoke-filled atmosphere of debate and controversy. Twelve members of the Political Cabinet, or Politcab, sat around a large table, smoking cigarettes or cigars and sipping water from glasses in front of them as the agenda was followed.
"Item twelve," President-Kommissariat Coltrane said, turning the page in front of him. A ruffle of paper told him without looking up that his comrades had done the same. "The conflict in Zhyolatska. Where do we stand on this?"
The Kommissariat for Foreign Affairs, Brian Duchoy, looked up after a moment. "The current Soviet Commonwealth view has not been expressed," he said carefully. "However, both Wanderjar and The World Soviet Party are coming down on the side of the Neosocialist faction, as it closest fits their own systems of government."
Coltrane nodded, considering the situation as he stroked his chin with one hand thoughtfully. "Comments?" he asked.
"Sir," Kommissariat for Defence Brian Callahan started. "From our own ideological standpoint, we would be compatible with supporting either the Neosocialist or the Statist Communist factions, as we share elements of similarity with both. The main issue here seems to be stemming the further advance of Igovian Socialism within Zhyolatska."
"I disagree," Kommissariat for Health Gemma Connolly interrupted, glaring at Callahan. An Igovian sympathiser herself, she looked somewhat insulted. "Mister President-Kommissariat, we have a situation here where the lines are blurry, and people are dying." She gestured with open hands. "Do we really want to add to the suffering being seen here?"
Coltrane sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Our hands are tied regarding offensive military action anyway," he said after a moment. "And I'll be damned if I'm going to be the first one to break Soviet Commonwealth statues." He looked up from his thoughts. "However," he considered, "we could support the Statist Communists in secret. If we can establish our own control over the group, we can practically create our own puppet state within the area, which will allow us to exploit the natural resources in the area."
"How do we support them covertly?" Callahan asked.
Coltrane looked at him. "Weapons supplies to start with," he said simply. "If we provide drops of supplies and ammunition from unmarked aircraft, we can assist in keeping the Communist faction on its feet. We can establish contact and promise further support if..." he glanced at his notes, "...Sergei Vassily will agree to secretly subordinate himself to our own control."
"Sir," Duchoy asked tentatively. "This is going somewhat against two large allies of ours."
Coltrane smiled. "Politics, my dear friend," he said with an amused tone. "So long as they don't find out, we'll be fine."

President-Kommissariat Max Coltrane.
(OOC: Zhyolatska, if you like, I can take control of the RIAZ faction to alleviate you of another faction to have to RP as. Cynapsia would be looking at creating some kind of puppet state within Zhyolatskan territory from what the RIAZ captures, which would have the illusion of independence but actually be controlled by the USSC. Any take on the idea?)

Dear comrade, It saddens us that you and your brethren in the country you call "beddgellert" would take such counter-revolutionary measures and drive a dagger into the heart of your fellows. We supported you, we are members of your communist league, we have opened trade with you, and indeed we have a fair amount of Indian Dollars that have been converted into Karbovanets.
We have not impeded the rights of man, we have not denied any the right to democracy, instead we have encouraged it.
I myself even wrote you a letter, requesting your aid in keeping order in the Free Territory of Zhyolatska. To which I can only look at the countless dead from your attack, and see your reply made manifest...
Why would you so deign to betray your friends and faithful allies? the first extra-indian member of your communist league? We organized our people into collectives, free communes where ideas and labor require only the will of a man. It was even approved by our grand council that your book "On Communism be spread, free of charge, through the country, and we encouraged Igovian though, with three of our regions even electing igovian council members and becoming igovians.
And now, the Blood of we Makhnovists, we revolutions, flows like the Dneiper through our land, spilled by your nation's hands. It saddens me greatly to see such a betrayal from a friend both we, and I, thought dear...

In the north maddened neosocialists brutalize our people, they impale our citizens, butcher many, and even ally themselves with the very same capitalists who voted to imprison the turks in labor camps so that their companies could make another karbovanet.

To give you some background, Sergei Vasseily is one of "the big three" of Zhyolatska, Which Include Revolution leader and makhnovist- Illyusha Verkhotsov, Foreign diplomat and negotiator - Sacha Pushenko, and Sergei himself, a russian man who was stationed in Zhyolatska in the 70's as a KGB officer. After the Makhnovist revolution he headed the RIAZ, or the citizen-army assembled from the old ZASF members. He's very much so a skilled military leader and has probably the second most regular, ordered army at this time (the first being the fascists) he's currently taking a blitzkrieg approach and making a push with his tanks and infantry to the south and to the west. His goals are to establish an independent communist state. He controls the bulk of the RIAZ, who are now broken off, and a good deal of tanks.
Personally I'm interested in seeing how this plays out now, with all the infighting among factions, i keep expecting this to turn into another Kosovo =P Wondering if this is going to make Gadar or TWSP news... well if enough die then it might! yay genocide!

Dear Verkhotsov, you dont seem to understand.
Your nation, once great and rich started it's decline into anarchy as soon as the Igovians appeared and thrived in your territory. The igovians are no better than leeches, sucking countries dry of their resources just to keep their "revolution" going.
Now, you failed to realize that, a sad mistake and even though the GUSN can be considered as good as dead right now, you proved to be a trusted ally, and thus, we are willing to give you a chance.
The New Socialist faction, as you might have noticed, HAD to utilize rather... inhumane methods to cleanse your nation of the hated indian intervention, rest assured that no one else will be harmed, only the Igovians deserve such treatment.
The New Socialist faction currently holds a great percentage of your nation's military power, as well as funds and an industry, which thanks to foreign investments, is beggining to rebuild Zhyolatska from scratch.
Illyusha, please do the smart thing and sign a peace treaty with the New Socialists and the capitalists, they hold no grudge against you and would be more than willing to help you recover your nation from the claws of anarchy and restore democracy.

"And this is exactly why we must not allow the Igovians to keep any foothold in Zhyolatska!" Petrovich roared, drawing cheers from a crowd of supporters gathered in the square in front of him. Being able to pay his people regularly and guarantee them food and supplies had done wonders for his popularity, he reflected.
""Because as long as we do, they will continue to see us as a satellite state that they can do with as they will! You all know the truth of it - their miserable excuse for a political system has FAILED this country, and now our Zintharian brothers to the north are also throwing off the yoke! And you have all seen the Igovian response to the wishes of the Zhyolatskan people! War! As soon as we step out of line with their policies, it's tanks and troops rolling into OUR country! I'll give the Igovians one thing, though, they aren't dumb! They KNOW that the only way they can keep their murderous cronies on top, the only way they can keep trampling on the spirits and bodies of the Zhyolatskan people is by military repression! They know that no true Zhyolatskan will willingly stand their presence! You've all seen the reports from the south. Thousands of Indians landing on our shores, ready to enslave us once more! Well I say it shall not happen, not as we all draw breath yet! I say to the Igovians: this is Zhyolatska, not Beth Gellert, and YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!"
Petrovich was sweating as he brought his oration to a close, and not just from the effort of speaking. He knew that whatever their patrotic spirit, his forces would have no chance against all Beth Gellert without help. He could only hope that the Igovians, who had landed far to the south, would be delayed long enough in the fierce fighting in the south to allow him to organize some sort of resistance.
He had the weapons, now, and he had soldiers whose loyalty was at least less shaky than it had been a few weeks ago. The offensive against the autonomists would start the next day. If they could be eliminated, at least he would not have to fight on two fronts.

True, Soviet Indians would not normally take up arms against Makhnovists while there are Bolshevists and Capitalists left in the world, but when Makhnovists are at bloody odds with Igovians there appears to be little choice.
Colonel Indomartus explains to his troops -and to any Zholatskyans who will listen- that this is an unfortunate situation from which a great harvest must none the less be gathered.
"Makhnovists are not really the enemy, but neither are they exactly correct." he says.
"This was, ordinarily, tollerable, while their intentions were good and the people reasonably content. But how can an Igovian spirit ever have been fully at ease with such immovable leadership as has existed until now in Zholatskya? It has taken violent revolt to wrest power from the hands of Verkhotsov and his allies. While they ruled in peace, again, we could tollerate and even co-operate with this administration, but those things rested upon the Makhnovists' ability to sustain liberty and harmony. Without that, what value are they to the people of their nation?
"The Igovians here offer real democracy, and dissent through debate and referendum, not violent bucking of a Party line.
"Moreover, comrades, let us not forget that Makhnovist theories, while providing for some degree of liberty and equality, have never been economically sound, and it is only Igovian elements in the economy that have fended-off collapse for so long. Further reforms towards an Igovian end are necessary to make Zholatskyans free of their reliance upon nations such as our own Soviet India. Anyone standing in the way of this must be either a would-be thief looking to line his own pockets, or else intent on keeping the people in stupid poverty for the purposes of remaining above them.
"All remember, then, one cry: All Power to the Soviets!"
Indomartus presently takes 2,000 of his forces north, seeking the fringes of Igovian territory and contact with enemies there, leaving 1,000 on the coast where they offer WIG-borne supplies to local fighters and attempt crash courses in partisan warfare... from, "Do try to point the muzzle at an enemy before you squeeze the trigger" to, "...and that's how you make a Molotov cocktail".

Heck, whenever someone talks about the Cold War, my people praise it as one of the best fiction novels to have ever been written.
And yes, there's a novel titled "Cold War", written by a Soviet back in the 40s, it's all fiction and it depicts fictional nations like the "Union of Soviet Socialist Republics" and the "United States of America".

War Plan Alpha
Top Secret - Eyes of the President-Kommissariat and Chairman of the High Command Only
General Overview
War Plan Alpha has been created for the situation currently underway in Zhyolatska, to assist in the creation of a Cynapsian-controlled territory within the current national borders.
Currently, allied forces within the Revolutionary Insurrectionist Army of Zhyolatska (RIAZ) control the north-east section of the country, and are pushing both south and west. This area of the country is of particular use for its agricultural properties typical of the East European plain, and should be safe-guarded for future agricultural development.
The main combatant in the area is the Igovian faction to the south of RIAZ-controlled territory, which also blocks RIAZ forces from gaining access to the Azov Sea, which would aid the current military logistical situation and future economic activity as an independent state. To the west lies mostly uncontrolled territory before entering Neosocialist and Autonomist-controlled areas.
Objectives of War Plan Alpha
http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa229/we_are_kommissar/zhyostates.png
1. Secure the western frontier of RIAZ-controlled territory
2. Secure access to the Drieper River.
3. Secure Azov Sea access to the south.
Details
1. The western frontier of RIAZ-controlled territory will be secured using primarily RIAZ forces. Taking the two neighbouring provinces (Province Alpha to the north and Province Bravo to the south) will allow an expansion of availiable agricultural territory, whilst allow an area of territory beyond will create a temporary buffer zone between RIAZ forces and Capitalist, Autonomist and Neosocialist factions, allowing RIAZ forces to dig in and provide a defence of the Western Front.
2. Access to the Driper River will be gained by primarily RIAZ forces, which will reach the river and then prepare to defend the western frontier of Province Bravo to assist forces of Objective 1. Forces for Objective 2 will also create shoreline defences to deny the enemy access to invade using the river as a source of transportation.
3. The push to the south against the Igovian threat will be undertaken primarily by Cynapsian forces backed by RIAZ troops. Estimates on troop numbers suggest a deployment of thirty thousand infantry soldiers via paradrop. Armoured vehicles will be utilised from RIAZ forces on the ground, and will provide support for the infantry push south. Further vehicle drops may be utilised as more information becomes availiable on the size of RIAZ forces in the area, and will be delivered afterwards. Due to long-standing friendly relations in the past, the Russian Government has given flyover permission, allowing transport aircraft to enter from the east of the country directly into RIAZ territory.

Official Proclamation of Independence
General Sergei Vasseily
Throwing of the shackles of Makhnovist misguidance, Igovian deception, Capitalist oppression, Anarchist terrorism and Fascist destruction, the Revolutionary Insurrectionist Army of Zhyolatska hereby declares the territory under its control as United Socialist States of East Zhyolatksa, with all the authority and sovereignty entitled to an independent state. The Revolutionary Council of Zhyolatska is officially formed as the governing body of the USSEZ during the current military situation, headed by myself as Chairman and comprising the nine highest-ranking officers in the RIAZ. Furthermore, the RIAZ is officially recognised as the military force of the USSEZ, and is immediately given all powers of policing until the liberation is completed. As of this message, the USSEZ is under martial law, and a curfew is enacted between the hours of 8pm and 8am.
Long live the revolution!

RIAZ forces continued to push westwards, with Infantry and Battle Tanks in support plying across the plains of Zhyolatska towards their intended objective. The news of the independence proclamation had given them a moral boost, and they continued on, meeting little resistance in the towns and villages they encountered. The combatants in the west were still some distance, but the RIAZ forces expected trouble. Their objective was to reach the far borders of Provinces Alpha and Bravo before the western enemies had finished attacking eachother.
Meanwhile, other RIAZ forces were pushing south-west, attempting to reach the Draeper River and secure the shoreline. Forces on the southern border of what was now the USSEZ began to dig in, taking a defensive tactic against the Igovians until support arrived.
(OOC: I will post proper figures for each force once I am aware of what the RIAZ has)

"Go, go, go!"
Troops stormed up the ramps of the Ilyushin transports as engines whined into life at Capital Red Air Force Base, in the New England province of Cynapsia. The taxi line was filled with transport aircraft loading paratroopers, and the scene was being repeated across the country as the first of three waves of infantry soldiers were preparing to take off. To assist in the lack of knowledge as to Cynapsia's direct involvement, all military personnel had been stripped of Cynapsian Red Army identification, and wore uniforms re-labelled with the logo of the RIAZ. The transports had been similarly stripped of indentifying markings, as had the Mig-29s circling overhead, waiting to escort the transports to their destination.
As the sky began to dim towards the end of the day, two hundred transport aircraft lifted into the sky with fifty escorting fighters, and set course for Russia.

Marshal Lonieda approached the podium, cameras flashing. Laying a set of papers on it, he cleared his throat and began the speech.
It was a sort of mini state of the Union address, hitting upon and discussing many points, and the crowd of peoples in Klassenkampf Square listened intently. Near the end of it, he brought up the spread of Igovianism.
"Many nations in the world, most notably TWSP, have decried Igovianism, and have attempted to attach a stigma to its name, simply because of its difference from traditional theory. Their condescending towards it is disgusting, almost as disgusting as the Violekt Corp., but to their criticisms I say this: Fools will say foolish things! So long as they refuse to accept the revolution, they will fail. The current conflict in Zhyolatska illustrates this point. Despite all of the evidence supporting Igovianism, TWSP and other nations have chosen to support factions whose only goal is to gain power. The idea of social justice is nowhere in their mind, despite how much they may say otherwise. They are nothing but a crowd of hypocritical, power-hungry fools, even more so than those who have endorsed the PRNZ!"
He stopped as the crowd roared, longing for more.
"Furthermore, I pledge that the USSZ will forever aid any nation or group that follows the ideals of Igovianism, whether through economic aid, supplies, or military action!"
A roaring crowd deafened him, but he waited until the crowd noise lowered.
"So in conclusion I must say to our Beddgelertian allies: ALL POWER TO THE SOVIETS!"
He turned and walked slowly back inside of the Capitol Building, the crowd noise leaving his ears ringing.

The day had arrived, and Petrovich's forces began the push back against the autonomists. But to any casual observer, it would not have been immediately evident that there was a military operation going on at all, much less an major attack with the goal of penetrating deep into autonomist-controlled territory. Oslav's men weren't marching in in large groups or behind tanks, like their Soviet allies to the east; rather, they were slipping in in small groups, some aimed at taking out specifically known families or individuals who supported the autonomist cause, others just attempting to wreak havoc and delay any effective response from local militias.
For after all, Petrovich's men weren't wearing signs that said 'capitalist' on their backs. A quickly devised (and somewhat prone to error) system of informal signals and secret markings had been devised to allow the capitalists to recognize each other, but from a distance, the soldiers of the counter-revolution could easily be mistaken for war-weary refugees or yet more deserters from the capitalist faction over to autonomist ranks. By the time that they got close enough for a target to notice the grim resolve in their eyes, or the weapons clumsily concealed in clothing and carts, it would often be too late. When it was not, bloody close-quarters gun battles quickly erupted, pitting former neighbors against one another in hundreds of small but vicious ambushes, counter-ambushes and house-to-house clashes.

By now, RIAZ forces had reached the western-most borders of their objective provinces, and were beginning to dig in along the line to defend the acquired territory from any Capitalist, Autonomist or Neosocialist attack. Similarly, forces had reached the Draeper River and were beginning to establish obstacles and barbed wire along the shore, supported by fixed machine gun posts. A chunk of these forces moved west to help the other RIAZ troops secure the western border of East Zhyolatska.
In the south, RIAZ forces had dug in along a line of defence centering on a command centre in Luhans'k, determined to stop any possible Igovian advance. Raids had been undertaken on Communist territory by enemy aircraft, and had caused several hundred civilian and military deaths.
The first wave of Cynapsian forces were arriving by now. Ten thousand soldiers paradropped from Il-76 transports over Communist territory, being guarded by the weary eyes of Mig-29 Fulcrums on station. The Cynapsian forces, once on the ground, moved southwards to link up with RIAZ supply lines and the local troops in the area. An-2 light transport aircraft had begun operating from an airbase within the Russian Federation, and had begun dropping supplies to the Cynapsian forces. Stationing themselves ten miles north of Luhans'k, they began to partially dig in as a second line of defence as they prepared for the assault south once the second and third waves arrived, stockpiling the supply drops in several dumps along that area. Machine Guns, Barbed Wire and Tank Traps were being set up across this line, and soldiers with Anti-tank weapons placed close to the line in case of a direct assault.
Back home, further precautions were being organised. A Naval task force was being planned, and the appropriate forces were being put on a higher alert status as part of "wargames" that the government claimed they were undergoing. The possibility of a full deployment, involving a naval battle to control the Sea of Azov, was considered by some in the military heirarchy, but the political and military situation still did not warrant such a blatant move.

I have to issue an apology to everyone: I'll try to make this as high a priority as possible, but I have usually less than one hour on line in any given day, so I am sorry if the Igovian front gets a bit behind in the timeline!)
Indian forces having come ashore at Berdyansk and emplaced CS-400 Red Sky air defences there, were now set upon securing Donetsk, judging it the major population centre under the control of Igovist militias. Given the importance of the city, arriving there was not difficult.
Pressing on to the border areas facing the so-called Communist quarter to the north, Indomartus rallies a few locals with his brash Celtic oratory, simply seeing an impressive figure such as this so confident in proclaiming the certainty of victory is enough to convince many impressionable young men and women. It is the gift of the Geletian gab, the legacy of countless centuries of bards and bravado.

Revolutionary Command, Luhans'k
The newly formed government of the USSEZ, such as it was, had made itself at home within the former City Hall of Luhans'k city. Alarmingly close to the front line, machine gun fire and occasional explosions could be heard in the distance.
The Revolutionary Council comprised of General Sergey Vasseily himself, his three most senior officers within the RIAZ heirarchy, Major of Luhans'k Ivan Dantavo, and three officers from the Cynapsian Red Army, led by Lieutenant-General Donald Wren. The group sat around a large desk in the office of the Mayor, dust hanging in the air and being disturbed anxiously with every distant explosion. None of them had slept for over twenty-four hours.
Sergey himself reclined at the head of the table, smoking a long, Russian-made cigar that drooped depressingly at the end. Sergey removed the cigar, blew smoke into the air and tapped off the ash before continuing. "What else is there?" he asked in a deep, distinctly Russian voice.
One of the his officers, Major Syetlav Palin, looked up from his notes. "There is the notion as to what we do in response to the Neosocialist advances for peace."
Sergey snorted. "Neosocialists," he muttered like a dirty word. "We should crush them underfoot as soon as possible."
"It might be advisable not to," Lieutenant-General Wren said carefully. "At least, not yet." The officer sat forward, stroking the beard growth on his chin. Wren was a young officer for his rank, at only 37, and had been chosen to be the Cynapsian 'advisor' to the USSEZ. In practice, he held a lot of power.
Wren continued. "If we delay the Neosocialists with talk of peace, we can concentrate on crushing the Igovian threat to the south." He looked at Vasseily. "Then we can concentrate on the western front without having to fight two theatres at the same time."
Sergei nodded. "That is wise," he conceded. "I will dictate a response later today." He then looked down at the map on the table in front of him. "In the meantime, what are the plans for attack in the south?"
Wren looked down at his notes. "Our first push will be towards Donets'k," he said first, pointing along the east of the country. "There will be an assault from Fronts C, D and E, with forces on Front E heading directly for Donets'k and forces on Front D and C advancing to protect their flank." Wren coughed, clearing his throat from behind his hand before continuing. "After we capture Donets'k, we can establish a new front along a parrallel with the city and continue the momentum of the push south with Forces from Fronts C and D."
Sergei nodded approvingly. "When does the attack take place?"
Wren looked at his watch. "Two hours from now," he answered.

Two Hours later
The troops sat ready, tense with excitement and nerves as they looked across the plains from their entrenchments and cover. The Partisans were the most jittery, having very little actual combat experience. The ZASF veterans were more at home, as were the better-trained Cynapsian Red Army Infantry that stood with them. Tank engines rumbled across the plains.
"Doghouse to all puppies, the leash is off, I repeat, the leash is off."
With a coordinated radio signal, each Commander gained permission to advance. Along the eastern-most front, a pair of SCUD missiles roared forth in a paltry sign of defiance as below them, troops began to advance. The full might of the southern front began to assault, troops charging forward to the next treeline and towards the Igovian positions, supported by the roar of T-90 Battle Tanks and Kohin Super-Tanks. The target of Front E was the city of Donets'k, not many miles away. Fronts C and D were there to maintain the line and do as much damage as possible.
The war for south Zhyolatska had begun proper.

By now, the large militia army had managed to pull off an amazing advance into the region, thanks to the autonomist tactic of guerrilla tactics, there were no organized forces to oppose the "NEW" (OOC: Not "NEO", "New") Socialist advance.
Back in the main territory, Soviet advisors had begun to arrive by the dozens, quickly setting up makeshift training camps for the militia recruits, they'd be given a crash-course in modern warfare and equipment.

The Pits
Across Soviet India, in addition to Dravidian and Indo-Aryan peoples, millions of Asian and African refugees, and a growing number of mixed-race citizens, there persist no fewer than eighteen major tribal groupings of Geletian Celts. Descendants of a clan that broke from the Galatians and migrated across western and middle Asia rather than accept Romanisation, India's Celts have been called both noble and savage, and, in one case, simply as feral.
The Pitovirii are even today semi-nomadic, often derided as Pits by other Indians critical of a perceived lack of interest in the Communist sciences. Roaming the frosty mountain north, these are coarse icemen, true Highlanders.
Indomartus draws criticism for raising soldiery from these souped-up Gypsy swordsmen, disinterested as they are in the revolution. But, he will tell critics, even if they are an apolitical lot, the Pitovirii remain proudly Indian and inexorably Geletian. Allies of the revolution by default.
And, as those opposing Igovian progress may soon find to their cost, these Pits, India's Pikies, are a rough and ready tribe of lunatic drinkers and brawlers, most of whom barely would care if you hit them in the head with a brick.
Donetsk
With a great smash a bottle hits the wall of a Zholatskyan drinking hole, drawing the attention of the proprietor just in time for him to hear a customer's complaint.
"Ah, 'mon biy, thi cad beh meanah ge para 'n 'aht? Wiza... geh's thi vwin!"
"...Pardon?"
"Ahh!" The Pitovirii Fusilier complains, raising a hand in frustration.
"Bracharius! Vwin!"
Vodka, evidentally, offends the palate of a Pit. Too little flavour, and it takes far too long for the weak stuff to render one paralytic. Bracharius soon was bringing up home-made Geletian wine, and as he and his comrade shared it with an unfortunate local partisan a fight broke out somewhere between the bar and the Infantry Combat Vehicle parked outside.
One Pitovirii had already flattened two local drinkers and was laughing hysterically as a third landed several punches on him. The soldier's ccomrades walked by or failed even to raise their heads from their drinks or their work (some were cleaning rifles or loading Totem ATGMs aboard the ICV's launch posts), even as two more partisans lept upon the Pit, both intoxicated by a few swigs of Geletian wine... which is undiluted and often 'flavoured' with other narcotics banned in most nations.
Even so the brawling Celt swung his over-sized fists until all five locals were down, having continued to fight even after they broke his nose (which had been smashed at least twice before in his young life) and briefly had him on the floor receiving bruised ribs and a kick to the teeth.
A couple of hours later he, Bracharius, and the complaining drinker were being hauled off the floor by their comrades who spent last night working, not boozing, and several bruised partisans were being patted on the back and offered Sri Lankan tea for their troubles. "Bloody good night, eh?! Let's go and cut up some reactionaries!" Exclaims the only member of the unit that anyone outside it can actually understand.
The Poolee combat vehicle is soon rolling on, a couple of cripplingly hungover soldiers lying on top, glad of the vehicle's remarkably smooth ride and quiet running. Electric transmission and continuous rubber band tracks at least are easier on the head than fifty-odd standard drinks and a boot in the mouth.
Taking their places inside a few local fighters are crammed in, armed with 6.5x50mm INSAS assault rifles donated by the Indian Soviet Commonwealth. No doubt, after last night, one or two bruised young men are wondering who exactly even needs enemies with such allies as this lot.
Still, before long the Poolee finds a column of Tendwa APCs and Land Cruisers protected by a Baarish-II self-propelled AA gun with several score Igovian militiamen in tow. Song can be heard drifting from the column as soldiers from the 21st Tavium Cavalry -members of the Trocmi tribe- belt out a hearty rendition of The Igovian Internationale, until quite suddenly the shattering crash of a 125mm shell changes the whole scene.
"T-90!" Somebody cries, pointing an enormous broadsword from the cupola of an APC.
Now the Celts, having run into Front E of the Cynapsian Red Army's deployment, begin letting forth with war cries, hoots and hollars, as three amongst them stand up in the backs of their Land Cruisers and rip the air with the call of their Carnyx warhorns, described in antiquity by Roman sources as amongst the world's most terrible sounds.
Here fifteen thousand enemy soldiers with six hundred tanks have found six armoured vehicles, and air-defence piece, and three 4x4s along with seventy Indian and two hundred-odd local infantry, and the Igovians seem not even to have considered the notion of retreat.
A Totem-3T anti-tank missile zips forth from one Land Cruiser as men and vehicles scatter, generally in the direction of the enemy, and its operator curses as the T-90s countermeasure suite manages apparently to interfere with his SACLOS uplink, sending the deadly projectile off course. Even as a tree is felled by the Totem and the T-90 rolls right over its stump, Bracharius's ICV begins popping away with its 37mm automatic cannon.
Perhaps surprisingly, the stubby little weapon knocks hole after hole clean through the enemy battle tank, which rolls, smoking, to a silent halt as supporting Red Army infantry come rushing by it, emerging from the trees.
"JAI HIND!" Screams last night's brawler, leaping from the roof of his vehicle, bayonet fixed to his Rk-101 assault rifle, deadly accurate bursts escaping its muzzle as he charges along with a handfull of comrades, recovered by some miracle of war.
The main Indo-Soviet lines are more than a kilometre south, and the clear object of the enemy's advance, this misplaced forward unit merely a stumbling block, but one intent on tripping the great hulk of Front E.
Cynapsia
12-09-2007, 22:08
Five Minutes Earlier
Front E of the Cynapsian advance was the largest and most heavily armed, sporting the main objective of reaching Duhans'k and capturing it. Six hundred T-90s of the RIAZ in small squadrons of three tanks rumbled across the countryside, organised into v-shaped spearhead formations, One Kohin being flanked by two T-90s each. Filling the gaps between the tanks and following behind was a mix of Cynapsian Red Army infantry, RIAZ infantry and Communist Partisans, moving carefully in platoons of twenty each. The front spanned miles across, where it linked up with Front's D and C towards the west.
Pavel Cheksin was a Kohin Super-Tank commander, and a veteran of the Revolution. From within the turret of his rumbling beast, he scanned the view ahead from a small slit in the armour. Trees and shrubbery were crushed underfoot as the force cut easily through a copse, heading southwards.
According to Intelligence reports, the Igovian lines were still a klick south. Cheksin was therefore somewhat relaxed, looking only for minor resistance at this stage.
He wasn't expecting the Pits.
The tank radio crackled, bringing Cheksin out of his reverie. It was one of his squad-mates in the T-90 to his left. "Tank Captain, we have spotted something," the radio crackled.
Cheksin grabbed his mike. "Can you be somewhat more specific?" he asked in a vaguely sarcastic tone.
The radio was silent for a moment. "Small convoy," the response finally came. "Nothing we shouldn't be able to handle."
Cheksin nodded, and switched bands. "All units hold at the edge of the copse," he said tersely. "Prepare to engage."
Part of Front E slowed, as his section of the line prepared to meet the enemy. A total of thirty tanks and around a thousand Cynapsian Red Army Infantry, RIAZ vets and Partisans were about to meet the Igovians face to face.
"Shell away!" came a radio response. Cheksin started, and looked through the visor as a T-90 roared with its main gun, spitting forward lead.
"Damn it!" he cursed, grabbing the radio. "Donavitch, I did not give you permission to fire!"
But already Donavitch's T-90 was rolling forward into the open. Cheksin shook his head in wonder. "What the hell is he doing?" he muttered.
The Igovian convoy had stopped, and was beginning to scatter to get into better defensive positions. Donavitch's T-90 crushed a tree, narrowly avoided an RPG round and was peppered with shots from an auto-cannon. The T-90 rolled to a smoking halt, its hull pocked with holes through the armour.
"Sh*t!" Cheksin muttered, grabbing the mike. "All units, open fire!"
Thirty tanks roared with their main guns as troops broke cover on either side, letting off fire in semi-automatic volleys before dropping into cover behind various areas of foliage or rocky outcrops. Twenty bodies, mostly Partisans, hit the ground as they were spun by Igovian bullets. The tanks stayed just within the treeline, using the area for cover as their main guns belched fire, and machine guns stuttered with anger into the Igovian convoy.

Luhans'k Mayor's Office
"Sir!"
Lieutenant-General Wren turned and took the piece of paper held by a breathless aide. He muttered under his breath, before turning back to the map. "Front E has met some light resistance in Area 2," he said to Vassiely. "It shouldn't take long to destroy, but it's going to move the line out of position."
Sergei cursed, spitting his cigar angrily to the ground. "Damn Igovians!" he shouted, pounding his hand on the table. "We can't let them interrupt the advance."
Wren sighed. "We also can't let them split our forces," he said evenly, staring Sergei in the eye. "We have to slow everything to keep the line steady." He rubbed his face with one hand. "We have five thousand more troops on the ground now, it will also give them time to meet up with the rest of the line."
Sergei muttered under his breath, but nodded. Wren turned to a radio operator in the corner. "Tell everything to slow it down," he ordered.
The message went out. Across the entire three fronts, advancing units slowed to a lower speed, each Commander anxiously hoping that Front E got back into the game as quickly as possible. The battleplan needed to succeed first time - Cynapsia could not be seen to be publically involved in the battle, and was therefore constrained from a full military deployment.

The ships returned to New Haven ports and were reloaded with more weapons to give to the Ignovian forces. These weapons were more modern then the previous shipment and would hopefully give the Ignovian forces an edge in combat.
The weapons were:
850 T-80U MBT's
600 BTR-60
400 Sa-6
9,000 Ak-101
10,000 GP-30
3,500 RPG-29
5,000 Sa-16
2,000 At-7
Plenty of ammunition was included in the ships and their flags stayed the same.

(OOC: Super long post because I don't know when I'll next be around to write more.)
Igovian forces are of course delighted to be receiving new weaponry, but at this time it is a sad fact that most remains cluttering the docks at Berdyansk. Too few tank drivers, too little fuel, too few trucks!
Still, Indian forces are quick to lead the locals in loading RPG-29s and Sa-16s first for dispersal to spatial units of partisans organised with inspiration from the Yugoslavian opštenarodna odbrana -total national defence- model. And, as happened in the NATO Aggression on Yugoslavia, with effective MANPADS widely dispersed, low-level flying for hostiles over the Igovian district will quickly be rendered suicidal, and attackers will be forced to work from a less effective altitude.
Front E
"How did we get this close?" "Feck knows, Colonel, but isn't it to our advantage? Give 'em the old cold steel, eh?" As Indomartus and his markedly informal Major, Morgan ap Visterix, discuss the shortness of the distance between the location at which they'd drawn up the main body of their force and the Cynapsian Red Army's vanguard, shells were hurtling over head and men all around were training heavy weapons on occasionally visible targets ahead.
"Traditionally." Replied the Colonel, "But what use my field artillery when the enemy is already in view? It's impossible to hold these damnable Pits back!"
An 84mm mortar bomb popped from its tube and headed for enemy infantry engaged with the Pits and Trocmi, deemed only more likely to hit them than us, given the numbers involved!
"We've nothing to fall back on save Donetsk, and frankly I feel that our Zholatskyan comrades will appreciate every minute we can give them to prepare. Lay the guns for direct fire. Load the HE munitions on the trucks, make ready HEAT, HESH, and sabots. T-90s won't stand up to our 105s, but I've no idea about those other buggers. And the Pinakas... lay one mine volley here" the Colonel traced an arc across a flatscreen display at the makeshift field HQ (a canvas extended from the back of a 6x6 truck), "then pull them back to the outskirts. I do not want them over-run."
Two dozen 105mm Indian Field Guns doubling as anti-tank guns were covered as best as possible as their indirect munitions were carted back to town. Infantry mortars continued lobbing charges, and missile posts were prepared for action. The forward column continued to fight, buying precious moments for their Colonel. Just behind Indomartus, sixteen Evolved Pinaka 214mm MLRS systems belched fire, letting fly a barrage of rockets... that fell behind and around the fighting, short of the other Cynapsian and anti-Igovian forces in Front E. A mistake? Pinaka's development was infamously plagued by targetting errors. Actually, though it may not be immediately evident, the rockets had deployed in dead space around the 1,000 men and 30 tanks fighting the Pits scores of proximity mines, anti-tank and anti-personnel, creating a sort of cauldron for battle. The mouth of this deadly pot opened on to Indomartus's primary force.
The Pinaka began to withdraw, making for the city limits.
On the battle front
Geletians were still fiercly engaged with vastly larger enemy forces, their wild and reckless confidence rubbing-off on some impressionable and inspired locals while other partisans try still to beat a fighting retreat on the secure line maintained by Indomartus, obviously unwilling to face tanks with small-arms!
The Poolee hammers away for some time with its auto-cannon, but in the end is the target of too many guns for it to be possible to evade them all.
Tendwa APCs, armed with remotely operated 6.5mm machineguns, attempt to support a mad bayonet charge lead by the Pitovirii, rattling away for all they're worth in an attempt to keep-down the heads of enemy infantry as the Igovians advance across sometimes open ground. The APCs though are no match for 125mm guns, and one by one they catch fire or burst apart as enemy tanks pick them off. A few well-placed rifle grenades help the charge, no doubt, distracting and scattering enemies who would otherwise mow-down the charge, but perhaps the most important work is that of a Corporal Atheric of the Soviet Marine Sniper Brigade.
For most tanks to help fend off the bayonet charge they must either use roof-mounted machineguns or turn their turrets and fire their co-axial weapons. Whenever a tanker pops his head from his turret to reach his machinegun, however, he is liable to regret it for a fraction of a second as one of Atheric's 11mm heavy sniper rounds takes off a part of his skull. Thus, if choosing to help their infantry, the tanks must at least turn their turrets away from the APCs for a moment, enabling them to continue firing at the Red Army's soldiers.
In the end, the Igovians face more fire than they can possibly give. Armed with 8" bayonets and in many cases carrying broadswords, sabres, or daggers in addition to their rifles, the Celts lead willing Zholatskyans in head first.
Last night's drunken brawler is hit in the left flank seconds after issuing his battle cry (Jai Hind! - Victory to India!), but keeps on charging, unchanged except by the addition of blood to his already fiercly romantic barbarian appearance. He continues even after a second round clips his shoulder and limits the use of his sword-arm.
Most of the courageous partisans fall in shock or agony as soon as a bullet finds their inexperienced flesh, and though none can fault their bravery at this point they are almost eclipsed by the Geletian Marines, few of whom fall until hit at least twice, while not one of the eight charging Pits allows his body to quit on him before it has been pierced at least three times. One catches a bullet straight in the cheekbone and loses his left eye, but he staggers around, emptying his rifle's magazine before taking out a blade and bellowing blindly for someone to come out and fight him. He is shot several more times and slumps over double, never quite lying down even after his heart fails.
If only a handful of the chargers reach enemy infantry, even on and around their tanks, it will quickly become evident that there is virtually no damnable way to beat a Pit in a knife-fight, especially since stabbing one rarely seems to hinder him in any great degree. Most Geletians, thrusting their long bayonets and waving their huge swords, stand around two metres tall. Many are half naked and daubed in warpaint, their long hair spiked and lightened with lime, wild facial hair by now thick with blood and saliva from the injuries and exertions of battle. Many wear silver torcs around their necks, beautifully crafted and deliberately open and the front: a noose broken, symbolic of the fact that here stands -or lies- a free man, slave to none, not leader nor god.
Still, knives or no knives, chains or no chains, the enemy has almost as many tanks left as this unit has men!
Here and there a Land Cruiser drives about at breakneck speed trying to avoid enemy fire (and friendly mortar bombs!), crews trying to direct ATGWs at hostile tanks with little success given how few seconds any of these lightly armoured 4x4s have left before being ripped apart. They might have been effective if they'd engaged the enemy from a few kilometres off, here they're doomed. One over-turns itself, so hard is it driven in attempts to dodge Red Army shells.
Shortly...
The shrill buzz of a tiny electric motor drives a Hebawg unit across the sky. Launched from a tube akin to that of a MANPAD, the little drone gives Indomartus specific real-time information on the skirmish.
Looking along a line of fifteen hundred men he says to his juniors simply, "All right."
With this the mostly Indo-Aryan and Dravidian officers cease their efforts to hold back the bulk of the Pitovirii infantry. Carnyx horns bellow anew, in threes (a superstitious number for the Celts), and the men begin to dash forwards. Perhaps five minutes lie between them and the burning hulks of APCs and tanks around which they expect to fight.
As they charge Atheric is alone in trying to hold-up the enemy. "Nyd hyder ond bwa" he says to reasure himself - no dependence but on the bow. Crack! he works the bolt and chambers a new round. "'tis the final conflict" Crack! "Let each stand in his place" Crack! "The Igovian Soviet" Crack! Missed! "Shall be the human race" Crack! Got him!
He is hidden under the smoking hulk of a Tendwa, firing from between two of its wheels. In the distance the sound of the Highland Charge approaches, obscured to sight by the next line of trees. Atheric is almost surrounded, the last of his comrades has fallen, one way or another, and nobody can support his flanks, he'll be compromised before long, and he's running out of affirmations! "...come dungeons dark or gallows grim" Crack!
For the main Beddgelen force there are two objectives: force the survivers of this 1,000 man, 30 tank force back into the newly-sewn minefield of which they may yet be unaware, and/or intice the main force to fall in on them and save that group, crossing the same minefield to do so.
Local partisans are urged to fall back, Indomartus insisting that the enemy will eventually engage and likely surround him, and that the partisans will be needed then, and needed most urgently.

Ignovian Docks
While they were unloading the weapons to give to the Ignovian forces, the Northern Baltic forces then realized through the words of a commanding officer at the port that there were to few tank drivers and fuel for the machines. After discussing this with the commander of the fleet, 600 Northern Baltic troops, most semi-experienced with handling tanks as they had done so in basic training and many other courses they had taken in Northern Baltic Military Schools, had elected to stay behind and not only train the Ignovians in the use of the machines, but to fight the Ignovian's enemies, if necessary.
In order to solve the fuel issue, five supply tankers prepared to unload half their supply of gasoline to the Ignovians ashore. After they had finished unloading their oil, the fleets would leave the Ignovian ports and head for New Haven.

The Mediterranean
The forst Northern Baltic convoy, flying its false flags, had got through with little attention from the Manthians, but once it turned into Zhyolatskan waters and docked at an Igovian port, it began to receive a lot more attention from spyplanes and satellites. There had been some debate about whether to sink the ships at harbor, seize them on their way back, or wait and see where their return destination was. Eventually, the third option had won out.
And, bingo. The ships had sailed right for New Haven, and then headed back towards Zhyolatska. It didn't take much to put two and two together...
As the convoy was sailing through the Mediterranean on its second trip to Zhyolatska, it was accosted by a radio transmission.
...attention Shredderstan vessels... this is GEU Coastal Patrol headquarters on Cyprus... Please stand by, deactivate weapons systems and prepare to be boarded.
No explanation for the search was given, but the Manthians expected the Baltic men would figure out the jig was up pretty quickly. Several Coastal Patrol cutters sped towards the craft, but unknown to the convoy commanders - or the Coastal Patrol crewmen - they were bait as much as a legitimate search. The real threat to the convoy was the submarines shadowing the convoy several hundred kilometers to the rear, and the Sledgehammer missile batteries on Cyprus, each of which had been given orders to be ready to sink the Baltic vessels.

'Ey, Petro! Another rocket, the kind that kills tanks!"
Andriy peered out cautiously from the tombstone he was hiding behind, catching the occasional glimpse of tank treads or gun barrels through the rolling smoke of the APC he had just destroyed.
"Right, kills tanks..."
His companion squinted at the sack full of rounds he was carrying, pulling several out.
"Eh, thermobaric, eh, high energy, eh, multipurpose... oh, here it is. Guided or unguided?
"Uh, guided. No, wait. Unguided." Andriy stammered, remembering that the inferno of the burning APC would probably throw off infrared targeting. The two men hastily loaded the rocket, and Andriy rested his Spiculum launcher atop the tombstone and put his eye to the sight, just as the first tank loomed up through the smoke, its turret swiveling from side to side. It looked like some sort of predator, hunting for the prey which had just disabled its companion vehicle.
"Whats taking so long?" Petro hissed. "Shoot it!"
"Shut up, its hard to aim this thing with the smoke! Oh shit, he sees us..."
The tanks turret roared, but fortunately the round landed several meters off target, though it still showered the pair of men with dirt. The machine gun chattered, sending fragments of granite whistling through the air as bullets impacted with the two mens' cover.
Andriy carefully squeezed the trigger, and the rocket lanced out at the enemy vehicle. He breathed a sigh of relief as it exploded into orange flames, momentarily lighting up the evening.
"Shit, these bastard almost got us." Andriy shuddered, casting a baleful glance at the ex-tank, now bonfire. "How is everybody else doing?"
"Dunno. We're supposed to meet up at a farm a mile that way, owned by some friendlies. We'll see, I guess."
"Probably best to clear out of here anyway. There might be more around."
Petro picked up the scattered rockets he had tossed aside in his haste, Andriy shouldered his Spiculum and grasped his DR-89 tightly, and the two men crept away.
Just a typical fight in Northern Zhyolatska. The capitalist rebels were avoiding fights with any large groupings of autonomist militiamen, instead choosing to avoid such formations when possible and hunt for easier pickings. It wasn't all working out as planned - in particular, the capitalists tended to break and flee when confronted with superior numbers, even if they had a strong defensive position or surprise which might otherwise have allowed them to win the fight. But at least they were fighting back instead of holing up and slowly losing men and territory to the autonomists.

Front E
The hell of battle buzzed around Lieutenant Will Flint. As he hit the dirt behind a clump of bushes and spat blood and soil from his mouth, the cacaphony of noise overwhelmed his senses and required him to reorient himself.
Tank engines roared above all else, metal beasts crunching and crushing the earth underfoot with every determined step, metal treads complaining against metal wheels as turrets roared with anger and smoke at the Igovian enemies. The ground exploded all around with the massive impact of shells and rockets, accompanied by the smaller spitting of bullet ricochets that sent tiny clumps of grass and soil a few centimetres into the air. An Igovian 4x4 exploded nearby, brightening the scene in a terrifyingly bright sphere of ignition as it left its wheels and somersaulted through the air, over Flint's head and into the ground behind him with an earth-shaking crashing of steel and death.
That was all Flint needed to wake up. Forcing himself back into reality, his heart pounding in protest at the adrenaline flooding his system, Flint checked his weapon, and took a moment to reload a virtually empty clip before going prone, crawling to the edge of the bushes.
The scene was terrifying. Explosions from Igovian field artillery was ripping through T-90 Battle Tanks before they had a chance to return fire. Flint counted fourteen flaming shells across the battlefield, burning in a quiet and dignified manner compared to the chaos that surrounded them. Other tanks held dead gunners from their turrets, hanging limply from their mountings or draped over co-axial Machine Guns in a last moment of defence. The Kohin Super-Tanks, larger and heavier-armoured, were putting up more of a fight, focusing on firing back at the field artillery and the vehicles running about, whilst gunners half-hid in their turrets and fired blindly from their machine guns into the enemy.
The infantry forces were not faring much better. Flint could see bodies everwhere, numbering over a hundred already, and more dropped as he watched. Some of his own platoon were taking cover several metres from his position, having been scattered by machine-gun fire and artillery. Some of the Partisan forces were beginning to rout, panicking under the fire of the enemy forces - and Flint was beginning to suspect that the Igovian forces were being helped from the outside. He didn't know who these crazy bastards fighting them were, he decided as he took aim along his iron sights, but he liked them.
Horns blew across the enemy lines, and Flint paused momentarily in taking aim to wonder as to why.
He didn't have to wait long for an answer. The Igovians came, screaming across the fires and destruction of the battlefield. Blood-covered, torn uniforms, they stormed across the destroyed ground, explosions from RIAZ tanks and bullets from infantry zipping around them and ripping the very earth from its place, and still they came. They were the devil incarnate, bayonets lowered, muzzles spitting fire, voices raised to the heavens and shaking the very ground themselves.
'Devil's incarnate,' Flint decided in awe. Then he steadied himself. "Than they can go to Hell," he muttered.
Standing, he ran across the ground to his own infantry, the run seeming an eternity as tracers nipped at his feet before he rolled into cover behind a burning APC with his own troops. Several looks of recognition and relief flooded their faces, and Flint took a moment to smile back before beginning to organise.
"Alright, squad!" he shouted. "We've got incoming infantry. They're determined to push us back into the sea and let their damn Igovian ways take over this country. And we have to stand."
He looked across them. Each man wore a different uniform, their Cynapsian insignia replaced with that of the RIAZ infantry. They had been told that the government would disavow all knowledge of their actions in Zhoylatska. They had nowhere to go if they lost.
And animals backed into a corner are very hostile.
Flint moved to the edge of the burning vehicle. "Squad, fix bayonets and prepare to attack!" He shouted over the noise of battle. Across the battlefield, RIAZ troops, Cynapsians and Partisans were doing the same in their own squads. Around five hundred men were taking cover and watching the Igovian troops charge.
Flint took aim. Four hundred and ninety-nine others did the same.
"Fire!"
The entire battlefield lit up. Muzzles flashed across the terrain, bullet casings tinkled to the ground as they were exhausted, machine guns and assault rifles stuttering angrily and stubbornly at the oncoming Igovians.
As Flints magazine emptied, he reloaded. The Igovians were close now, and Flint stood, climbing onto the top of the burning APC. He turned to his own platoon, who were still taking cover from the edges of the vehicles. He grinned, the searing flames lighting his face in a demonic expression of pleasure.
"Come on, you bastards!" he roared, holding his rifle high in one hand. "You need a written invitation?"
With that, he turned and jumped - stabbing downwards at an Igovian now directly ahead of him as the other forces followed, with Kohins and T-90s raking with their machine guns in protest.
Zhyolatskan Revolutionary Command
Mayor's Office, Luhans'k
"Sir, Front E is taking direct assault."
The Radio Operator waited quietly for orders, daring not to say anything. The room was tense with rising nerves and anger between the Cynapsian advisors and the Zhyolatskan commanders. Wren licked his lips tentatively, looking at Vasseily from his end of the table.
"We need to consolidate some forces into that area," he said calmly. "We can't risk a hole in Front E before we hit Duhans'k."
Sergei smiled platantively. "Your Red Army troops having trouble?" he sneered derisively. "Honestly, Lieutenant-General, I'd have expected better."
Wren wrinkled his nose. "General, if you don't wish for Cynapsian support..." he held the sentence in the air, and Sergei reluctantly, silently, backed down with an angry glare.
The Radio Operator was given orders to send out, and did so. Front C was ordered to halt its advance and make for temporary revetments until required to advance again. On Front D, a full 1,000 troops comprising ZIAF Veterans and fifty T-90 Battle Tanks were ordered to the area of Front E, and began their movement towards the battlezone, expecting to be in combat range within half an hour.
The Cynapsians were fighting hard alongside their Zhyolatskan allies, but they were also unaware of the level of support the Igovians were getting, and were unable politically to place any more hardware in the area for fear of being discovered as assisting in offensive combat operations.
The Battle was far from over.

The fleets halted in obedience of the orders given by the unknown forces. They did not want any trouble and since their holds were empty, except for some items that would sell well in New Haven. All of their weapons given away to the Ignovian forces, they had nothing to hide except a few pieces of paper, which were then ignited to be safe. The guards on the merchant ships prepared the ships for inspection, but such a right would not be given on the escort ships.
Ingovian Territory
The advisers in the armored vehicles lacked the impressive physical strength of their allies, but rallied support nonetheless. Weapons were distributed and volunteers were taken in to train in the use of the armored vehicles. Some of the Partisans boarded the APC's and climbed on the side of the tanks on their way to the front. The convoy consisted of:
800 T-80U
400 BTR-60PAI
500 Type 63 Amphibious Tanks
200 MT-LB's
The convoy was also followed by 300 MT-LB's and a number of various trucks that had been modified to the supply carrying duty. They would arrive on the front in about four or five hours. The new members of the First Baltic-Ignovian armored Division were being trained on the way there.

Please stand by for inspection... boarding parties will be searching each ship in turn. This may take some time, please stand by...
The voice crackled slightly.
Officer in command of convoy please transfer to the U.S. Republican Shield for brief questioning.

The Six Bergstein Class Frigates reversed direction and proceeded to, what would appear to be, dock with the New Manth ships. This was not the case. Each ship unleashed two EMP missiles at the enemy fleet and, via loudspeakers, ordered the remaining crews to surrender. If they attempted to move the weapons using manual controls to fire on the ships, the guns would be knocked out.

Sorry for this little blcokade diversion... back to your regularly scheduled civil war shortly.
The lightly armed cutters never stood a chance. Derelict and drifting without power, the crew ran up the white flag.
On shore, things were quite different. When communication was lost with the cutters, it was assumed they had been destroyed, as had been expected - the 'Shredderstan' fleet was confirmed hostile. Now it was time to bring the hammer down.
Trailing the convoy by a hundred kilometers, the Cartagena-class submarines received their orders. One by one, captains punched in launch codes and missiles rose to break the surface of the sea.
The Principe III systems would travel as a missile until it reached fifty kilometers out, at which point it would splash into the sea and the torpedo stage would take over, supercavitating the rest of the way to its target. Since the location of the Baltic fleet was a known, and, having just been brought to a stop for 'inspection' - the real purpose of the Coastal Patrol cutter 'bait' had merely been to get the convoy to stop - it was unlikely they could get back up to speed quickly enough to flee the area.
Of course, operating at such ranges with only general targeting information, it was entirely possible that the Coastal Patrol boats would be among those destroyed. Unfortunately for the unwitting crews, they were what was called 'acceptable losses.'

The Front
When Indomartus arrives, just seconds after Atheric's heroic death, some fifteen hundred mostly Pitovirii Soviet Marines are bearing down on now less than nine-hundred Red Army and partisan troops. The on-going duel between armour and artillery continues with the one side having mobility and armour, the other low profiles, modest earthworks, and cutting-edge fire-control; at least the Red Army's tanks are somewhat constricted by the short ranges involved and by the thick crop of mines skirting their positions. Here and there an Indian Field Gun stands twisted by tank fire while others around continue to hurl shells over the heads of the battling infantry.
In the middle of their wild charge, every second Marine halts suddenly, a couple of hundred metres from the main body of enemy troops. Some drop to one knee or hurl themselves to prone positions, but all of them launch rifle grenades in a great barrage of 750 projectiles against hardly more than that number of opponents. These men then fix bayonets retake the charge as their comrades halt and begin to shoot, laying aimed bursts against the enemy as grenades rain down upon them. In this fashion the highland charge continues, half running forward as the other half issue forth suppressing fire.
Soon the two sides meet, and the Celts hurl their titanic frames against their foe with savage abandon, letting out ancient warcries and slashing and stabbing furiously as their ancestors did in the sack of Delphi, the resistance to Rome's legions, and the storming of Parthia and the Guptas in turn.
Hebawg drones warn Indomartus, who thinks that victory here is in his hands, of the approaching reinforcements. He is becoming quite ridiculously outnumbered... which suits a Geletian just fine!
"Killin's good, today, boys!" he remarks, even as a staff officer at his side catches what must have been at least a 12.7mm bullet in the neck and drops like a sack of something wet and dead...
(OOC: Darn, time's run out, I have to go! Will write more later, because I didn't really get to add any new information, there! I'll deal with our reinforcements and what we actually do about the Cynapsian reinforcements then. Probably best not to add new info about this particular battle until I do that. Cheers!)

Battle for Skoya rages; Marshal continues support of Igovians
Spetsnaz Airborne forces continue to fight in the city of Skoya, in ZHyolatska. What was once thought to be an easy battle has become reminiscent of Stalingrad, with every room becoming a major fortress as militiamen snipe from rooftops and ZSU arty units hit allied positions. Enemy bombers continue to rain down death as our Noble Sukhoi 47's attempt to drive them off. IN a speech today, Marshal Lonieda announced that the 14th Spetsnaz Airborne would be landing at nearby local airports in the area, raising the troop amounts in the country to 15,000. In addition, the USSZ will continue to provide Ak-101's and other weaponry to allied militiamen and refugee aid to the populace.
The Daily ZIntharian salutes our noble Kamaraden in the field and wishes them glorious victory!

The Front
It had now come to pass that Geletians, in areas of the battle where the arrival of 1,500 new infantry in the irresistable force of a highland charge had put them on top, were going to the grisly trouble of taking heads, using swords and knives to collect grim trophies from fallen rivals.
This was sometimes a problem confronting Soviet commanders, especially when fighting with more traditionalist tribes such as the Pitovirii, who were largely unmoved by mainstream concepts of modernity. Sometimes forces would lose momentum and cohesion as individuals saw only the tactical scale of their victory and thought nothing of the strategic situation as they turned their attentions to the gathering of bounty from the battlefield. Returning to one's home with the skulls of several enemy warriors could do wonders for one's status in an old-fashioned Pitovirii clan, and Indomartus had his work cut out in keeping the men moving and alert to continuing dangers. Still, seeing comrades in other parts of the front pausing to collect trophies and enhance their honour only encouraged other Marines to fight harder in pursuit of their own prizes, adding a new level to their barbarian bloodlust.
Some heads had already been carried back and slung on chains and ropes around the barrels of surviving field guns even as they continued to exchange fire with remaining enemy armour.
"Major? The rocketry, please!"
Colonel Indomartus, still directing proceedings with the help of his battlefield computer, receiving telemetry from the Hebawgs, was now directing his withdrawn Pinakas to launch a new barrage from tens of kilometres distant: the sixteen vehicles responded in good time. 214mm rockets drew fingers in the sky as they sailed over head, traced talons that reached down from the heavens to scour the earth and the enemies upon it. Deploying anti-armour and anti-personnel sub-munitions near the end of their Mach 1.4 dives on the so-far non-engaged bulk of Front E, which had reportedly come to a halt while the battle was joined.
Just four small batteries may lack the firepower to bring down the entire Red Army deployment in one swoop, but scores of bomblets aided by targetting data from the UAVs seemed likely to cause serious damage and disorder.
Meanwhile, the Cynapsians' reinforcements -those 50 T-90s and 1,000 infantry- were some time ahead of larger Igovian reinforcements moving up from the south. But, as they approached the fighting, a strange object on the earth became active and suddenly a rocket-deployed mine catapulted itself into the air, erupting like some hellish pinata and hurling armour-piercing sub-munitions of its own at a passing T-90 battle tank.
More mines began to react in similar fashion as the anti-Igovians tried to reach their embattled comrades. If they choose to press on, these forces might get through, but not without taking a beating in this newly appeared minefield.
South
Preliminary reports seem to suggest that Indomartus is bound for victory against the first part of Front E and reinforcements from another front, but the rest of Front E has only been engaged from stand-off range by some rocket artillery, and local anti-Igovian partisan strength is not fully known.
The issue now looks likely to hinge on the effectiveness of the vast column of native Igovians armed by the Northern Baltic when they move to engage the rest of Front E.
Baltic attempts to train volunteers on the hop have at least made them capable of making a T-80 or a BTR stop, go, turn, and shoot, but they do so without practiced skill or military discipline.

Freut Mich, Kamaraden. We would like to land another 5,000 men from the 14th SA in order to aid in the aid of the Igovian faction in Zhyolatska. However, we are having troubles with the defeat of the militiamen in Skoya, and the area is not prime for paratroops. It would aid our cause if we could land our troops where you came ashore. Is this okay?

The Soviets are quick to secure local Igovian consent for reinforcements -any Zholatskyan Igovians worries about the possibility of victory making their homeland an Indian puppet are eased by seeing other nations share responsibility- and attempts are made to clear space at the chaotic docks. Beddgelen Soviets put forward their significant WIG vehicle fleet as a possible means of delivery should the Zintharians encounter opposition at sea or in the air.

Soon enough, Spetsnaz Airborne troopers are loaded onto transports and are landed at the docks, meeting their Beddgellertian allies with happy faces and many strong drinks.
Skoya, Zhyolatska
Junior Lieutenant SA troopers, though above the noncoms, still do the majority of dirty work. They told JRLT Gavin that in boot, but he didn't expect this much work. So far that day he'd been involved in 18 firefights, had been on patrol for 10 hours, and then had to do checkpoint security for another 3 hours. He was tired out, but it wasn't lights out yet. In fact, it was never lights out. The constant firefights lit up the night sky, preventing him from getting any sleep. He had been running on energy food and C-rations for the last couple of days.
His orders were important. His stick of 63 men, (now 34), was tasked with taking the market area, a small but strategically important region of Skoya.
They had hardly entered the market when the steady rolling buzz of a machine gun dropped 4 of his men. "Verdahmmt!" he swore as he dove behind a low stone wall, chunks of the wall exploding as he did so. He lifted his brand new AK-101 over the top and opened fire on full auto, blindfiring. It was an act of desperation, and had no real effect on the amount of fire coming at him.
That's when he heard the clink of metal as a grenade rebounded off a wall into his hiding spot. He dove, but was too late.
When Stick 43 sent back no report on the market, Stick 57 was sent to figure out what happened. They found no survivors.

Mediterranean Sea
Poor souls, thought the Capitan as he looked out at the New Manth ships drifting without power.
A younger officer opened the door to the bridge and after letting out a puff of cigarette smoke, he said, "Sir, the crews from the merchant ships have almost completed being transferred."
"And the satellite jamming buoys?"
"Done sir. The helicopters we have sent to drop them should be returning now."
"You've done well, Danial..."
"Thank you sir, but is there anything else..."
The Capitan was now staring at the New Manth ships again.
"Them."
"Shall we sink them? I'll tell the gun crews right away..."
"No Daniel. Give them one of our merchant ships. It should be big enough to hold all of them and it should have enough food to last them."
After a few moments hesitation, Daniel and a small team of men were dispatched to hand over the M91-06, a medium sized merchant ship to the crews of the New Manth ships. The other ships were now being sunk as the escort ships began to move away from the convoy carrying all of the crews. Daniel would be picked up by helicopter once his job was done.
The ships were moving along the European coastline back to the Ignovian ports. They would wait for orders once they were there.
Ignovian Lands
Col. Isioff grinned as he looked at the recruits they had gathered up. He put his hands together and said,"Attention Comrades!" several times. Once the recruits were silent, he grinned again. "Comrades, we are now two kilometers from the battlefield." His finger pointed to the direction of the battle and several 'booms' were heard before he was able to continue again. "Now I know you may have not been in battle before, but I also know that we will be able to push these Fascist hoards back and reclaim this land for the Ignovian people!" He pulled out a cigar and lit it. He surveyed the battlefield while a few of the other advisers were giving the Ignovian recruits a basic run through on the weapon systems. When they were finished, he spoke, "To victory, Comrades!" The recruits rushed to their vehicles. The advisers had preference on the command positions, but able Ignovian recruits were also put in these positions. 35 BTR-60's advanced well in front of the armor column. Their job was to drop their troops, who would then provide firing data for the T-80's, so the tanks could use their anti-tank missiles if needed. No need in risking tanks when one did not need to. After this was done, the tanks and the rest of the vehicles would move in and crush all opposition to victory.

Zhyolatska, what is your AIM handle? Feel free to TG it if you'd rather not post it, but I have a question or two.
"Lt. Captain..." a crewman aboard the first drifting Manthian vessel called. "One of the vessels is approaching."
"I wonder..." the officer began to reply.
And that's when the first torpedo hit the cutter, detonating under the keel in a massive burst that snapped the ship clean in two. The other two vessels were quickly struck as well by the heavy Mark 2 torpedoes, sending both - with many Manthian crewmen still aboard - to the bottom
They had done their duty, holding the Baltic fleet in one place long enough to allow the long-range missiles to close in and transition to their own active guidance systems rather than rough position estimates transmitted from ships and detectors many miles away. There would be little chance now that the Baltic ships could outrin the attack swiftly closing in on the remainder of the vessels.
There was even a hidden benefit - the loss of Manthian ships to the attack would make it seem less likely that Manth itself had been the aggressor. Who would believe that the Manthians had deliberately sunk their own ships, after all?
Zhyolatskan territorial waters outside Igovian-controlled areas
With the Igovian forces bringing in large numbers of heavy vehicles and tanks, fuel and logistics would doubtless be a major concern. Reliable fuel would be hard tom come by in a war-torn country unless the Geletians brought it in themselves, and no tank would run long if the supply lines that kept it well-supplied were broken. Unfortunately, the Geletians had deployed initially via craft too fast to be chased down by submarine, and Manth was not about to risk tipping its hand by engaging Geletian vessels directly anyway, but there was another solution.
Manthian submarines were redoubling their covert minelaying off the Zhyolatskan coast, aiming to make the shipping lanes impassable, or at least dangerous, to any vessels - friend or foe - which tried to come to port in Zhyolatska. Mark II encapsulated torpedoes would lie dormant anchored to the seafloor until they detected a passing vessel, at which point the encapsulation system would release its payload to hunt down the offending vessel. The Mark IIs, a supercavitating design, were hopefully quick enough to run down even the Indian vessels, at a blistering 200 knots.

Front E
The Cynapsian forces were not doing well.
Forces directly engaged on Front E were embattled by the charing Igovian forces, particularly the animalistic Pitts that threw themselves into the fray with little regard for their own safety. Fires burned across the battlefield as T-90 shells were consumed by flames, bullets impacting into bodies of Cynapsian soldiers and Partisan troops as they attempted to hold the line.
Meanwhile, reinforcements for Front E were being decimated by the unexpected mines. The entire force rumbled to a halt as T-90s exploded across the distance, unable to move without calling for minesweeper backup - which the Zyolatskan forces did not have.
Fronts C and D had ground to a halt by this point, unable to advance until the situation on Front E was solved.
The entire thing was going to hell in a handbasket.
USSEZ Central Command, Luhans'k.
Wren bit his lip, studying the movements of forces on the map in front of him as reports continued to pour in. It was not looking good.
Across the table from him, General Vassiely was sitting in stubborn silence, his eyes fixed on the Lieutenant-General opposite him through the drifting smoke of a Monte Cristo cigar. After a moment, he tapped off the ash and cleared his throat. "So what do we do now, Wren?" he asked in a slightly mocking tone.
Wren glanced up at Vasseily for a long moment, and sorely wished that something nasty would befall the man before much longer. Then he looked down at the map once more. "We have a distinct problem," he said, thinking aloud. "We can still push through, but only if we commit more forces."
He took out a pencil and began drawing on the map. "We shall commit the remaining forces of Front E to the battle," he said, drawing arrows on the terrain. "And we have the entire of Front D swing east to attack the Igovian forces from the west. Meanwhile," he continued, scribbling. "Front C will stretch itself to also defend the space that Front D has now left whilst we push for Duhans'k. Once we have the city, we can dig in and attempt to hold the area."
Sergei thought for a moment, and nodded. Wren took a moment to scribble the instructions on a peice of paper, giving it to the Radio Operator and patted the man on the back before stepping back to the table and smiling at Vasseily politely.
The orders went out, and the entire front began to reorganise. Front D roared back into life, and began to swing east to commit more forces. Front C began to reorganise.
But there was more that Wren had not mentioned. The orders also called for all Cynapsian Red Army Infantry to begin moving back north, leaving the Partisans and ZIAF infantry and tank forces to continue the battle alone. At nearby Russian airbases, Il-76 Transport aircraft began warming up, preparing to fly into Zyholatska and pick up Cynapsian forces from prepared airstrips in the USSEZ. The Lieutenant-General's standing orders were to extract forces should the battle seem to be turning against them. The USSC could not afford to be identified in this conflict, and if that meant leaving, than it would.
Slowly and as quietly as possible, the USSC began to abandon the USSEZ to its fate.

Four star General McKay Albert hereby pledged the majestic armies of Soratese to the mutual military aide of the USSZ and Beddgellert after recieving permission from President Kreyon Depar. Zintharia decided to accept the treaty. Said treaty proposed protection to Soratese in case of attacks from foreign powers. Soratese leader Kreyon Depar responded to the press about why he entered the treaty. "When the armies of Soratese enter the combined powers of Beddgellert, and Zintharia's armies, our combined power will make the world fear us." Some citizens called this treaty "a threatening opposition of peace", and others claimed, "Depar simply wants to use this alliance to strengthen his iron fist over Soratese, soon, we will be a communistic country." Another citizen said, "we have always been a pacifist country, why are we now pressing ourselves into the mad power-scrambble of this crazy world? Why not ignore everyone else, and focus inward to Soratese? I beg the president to disarm the Army, before it is too late!"
The president simply shrugged at these implications. "So what if Soartese shifts toward communism. It might improve the country."

Unfortunately for countra-Igovian ambitions, a billion torpedoes launched at a thousand knots won't so much as damage a single unit in the Indian Soviet WIG fleet, as the machines continue to cruise in several metres above the ocean's surface.
Should allied shipping prove -as seems likely- rather more vulnerable, Beddgelen WIGs may be deployed as minesweepers of a sort, dropping noisemakers and other bait to activate mines while the vehicles themselves remain safely airborne.
Back in Beth Gellert the public takes great interest in their nation's return to the world stage and the most popular topic in public discourse seems to be simply, "...wait, are we, like, a major power, now? Shall we fix the world?"
As Igovian Communism receives a profile boost around the world, the League of Communists approves millions in propaganda expenditures. Nations such as The Northern Baltic and Soratese find themselves on the receiving end of crash courses in Igovian direct democracy and market-simulation in hopes that the movement may catch on, its image improved by the possibility of multi-national victory being shared in Zholatskya.
Zholatskya
Fighting on the small stretch of Front E that is currently engaged remains intense as the Igovians smell victory in light of the enemy's difficulties in breaching the rocket-deployed minefield, and lound-hailer systems beging to blast requests for the surrender of initial forces trapped within the cordon lest Geletian bloodlust run out of control and leave nobody alive to give-up later. Indomartus has another challenge in convincing the enemy that the mess of towering, blade-weilding barbarians under his command are actually quite a civilised lot at heart and will accept a surrender without putting everyone to the sword!
Of course Indomartus remains badly outnumbered over-all, having only local superiority where he has concentrated his forces. When the enemy's other fronts have redirected their strength and the minefield is penetrated or skirted around the situation could become rather more difficult for the Beddgelens.
From the south, though, Baltic-armed Igovian militia approach in a disorderly crawl, bogging down tanks and jamming trucks in miles-long tailbacks as rookie warriors jostle to the fore.
The Igovian Soviets are compelled to issue a public request for an armistice. Indomartus endorses a statement by a Zholatskyan consul-elect, Lyudmyla Vink, in which she suggests that a national network of Soviets seek co-operation between Igovian, Marxist, and Anarchist sentiments.
Political militias, she insists, should be disbanded, reforming instead as part of an apolitical National Guard dedicated to the preservation of the revolution generally and not to the forcible -and thus undemocratic- triumph of one branch over another. Capitalist and other counter-revolutionary elements should be destroyed by genuine revolutionists who can work through their own differences in democratic Soviets.
Indomartus suggests that a conference be held at Galle, Soviet State of Sri Lanka, in which the nature of a future revolutionary government in Zholatskya be agreed by all leftist parties. The Colonel states that, for 48 hours, Igovian forces will not attempt to push beyond their established zones of control and that any POWs taken will be interned safely until at least an agreement has been reached to hold such a conference.
"Zholatskya has the potential to become a revolutionary crossroads, a meeting point for the left born out of terrible civil war there." -Graeme Igo to Gadar!

By this time, the Cynapsian Red Army troops were pulling out, loading onto transports in the USSEZ and taking off for their homeland, using Russian airspace as a cover. Although some officers of the USSC would remain behind as advisors to the USSEZ Military Command, the Cynapsian involvement in the Zhyolatskan Civil War was essentially at an end. There was danger to the homeland, and the troops were needed at home in case of invasion.
Meanwhile, General Vassiely prepared for possible travel abroad, in order to settle the matter of the Civil War once and for all.
