The Fall of Lord Sumguy (Semi-open; ATTN LS, EVIL)

"There's something to be said for immense naval power," Fleet Admiral Charles Dalton said to his colleague and second-in-command, Fleet Admiral James Blair, looking up at the night sky above. He found great comfort in the stars, though he could never quite place why. But the admiral found ever greater comfort in the veritable sea of artificial lights bobbing in the waves behind his ship, and in the thousands of Londinian flags flying proudly in the night.

"Of course, Mr Dalton," Blair replied. "It's what has allowed the Republic to survive this long. There's a reason the Navy is the largest branch of the armed forces."

"And the Navy is what allows British Londinium to not only survive, but to crush those who stand in its way," Dalton said smugly.

"But, er, how is attacking Lord Sumguy doing that?"

"It's not simply just those who directly, overtly stand in our way, Mr Blair," Dalton replied. "It's ideological enemies, enemies who threaten the ideals of the Revolution and of the People's Sovereign Republic. The decadent dictatorship of Lord Sumguy must be destroyed. And, when our fleets arrive at Sumgaia in...twelve hours and fifty six minutes...it will be."

As the two admirals gleefully plotted the assault on Sumgaia, the fleet sailed steadily through the night for the doomed nation; nothing would stop them.

To the Government of Lord Sumguy:

The time of Lord Sumguy is over - you face imminent destruction at the hands of one of the most powerful naval forces in the world. Millions of soldiers will wash over your country like a tsunami, destroying everything in their path - your culture, your civilization, your economy, your institutions. Your very existence hangs in the balance.

We will give you the option of unconditionally surrendering to the People's Sovereign Republic and dismantling your military forces. Think carefully before refusing this offer - doing so will cause millions of innocents to die a most painful and gruesome death.

Sincerely,

"Dammit, I want action." said Commodore Heusen, slamming his fist on the table he was sitting at.

"Why, sir?"

"Cause it's been boring and cold, like it always is."

"British Londinium is invading Lord Sumguy."

"Well, let's get in on it. We could use some more land."

A fleet was quickly dispatched.

Far be it for me to question your foreign policy Mr. Azzopardi, but what the hell are you doing? Please present some evidence that Lord Sumguy deserves what you have thrust upon his nation. If you have none, I implore you in the name of logic and reason to cease and desist immediately. We are much alike Mr. Azzopardi, though perhaps I am not as cruel as you to my nation's colonies. I am sure a decision can be reached which will be productive for all involved parties.

OOC: Nothing personal LS. Just got to do something.

IC:

The Emerald Emperor stood above a giant map of NationStates, as he often did, looking at the vastness of the Free Empire, the territory highlighted in traditional pink. He slipped his hands down to several of the colonies that had formed the Third Colonial Empire. Tapping Victoria, he slowly read the lines on the colony. Roughly half way through, one of his interns burst in. Garzahd made a note to fail the over eager little twerp. "SIR!" the boy said in a cracked and slightly exhausted voice, "British Londinium has just invaded Sumguia!"

A cold, heartless, and definitly disturbing laugh came from him, sending shivers down the spine of the unfortunate youth. Slowly, robotically, Garzahd turned and spoke to the intern, "Tell the Admiral of the Second Fleet in the Windwards and Leewards to move to Sumguia with a detachment of marines. Move the forces in Victoria colony to the borders, and begin over-the-border bombardment. Send someone to replace Adiral White in defending the Caribbean. GO!" Garzahd said, screaming the last word and watching the interns' terror.

Experimentally, he picked up an erasable highlighter, coloring the area around Victoria colony. Come in from the borders, hit them as hard as possible. Play on the Abrahamic League. Then, after the borderlands were taken, move on to the capital. Hopefully they could get a quick sacking would let them launch a speedy attack on any colonies. Smiling, something that usually only happened during his public ventures, he carefully erased the highlightings he had made.

In Victoria colony, the movement was swift. Soldiers were quickly moved to the already militarized borders. In their wake, the mercenaries of Buy & Sell taking their job as overseers. The various traps set up along the border were activated, and the artillery and rockets immediantly started raining death on the people on the other side of the border.

Meanwhile, in the Caribbean, Admiral White, one of many Whites in the Navy, mustered his forces. Marines packed into ships, and the Air Force packing onto carriers. Soon, everything was ready. With a final look towards the beauty of the Windwards, and the Leewards in the distance, the fleet departed, headed to sow destruction in Sumguia. The Sumguians would feel the wrath of Great Vantania.

Lastly, a message was sent out to all invading nations that Victoria colony would have it's ports opened as a safe beach surrounded by Sumguian territory.

Praetorial Palace, Vetalia City

"Our forces will move south through the Gulf and strike at the mouth of the Mississippi River, capturing the city of New Orleans in the process and deploying our land units for movement north towards the capitol. As planned, the carrier-based aircraft we are bringing will use targeted strikes to weaken and disrupt enemy communications and supply lines, allowing us to strike at them with maximum strategic advantage. The Navy will hold its position and secure the coast, as the occupation forces move in behind them." Army General Abelev's holographic form shifted occasionally from static as he spoke, but his voice was as clear as if he were speaking in person.

"How long until they arrive?" The Praetor looked over a map of the seas between Vetalia and Lord Sumguy, watching the fleet inch slowly towards its destination. Coordinates and communiques briefly flashed by, their Cyrillic lettering appearing oddly alien when rendered in green light.

"At current speeds, no more than 10 days. We will coordinate our attack with our allies for maximum effect, of course."
"Good, good. What of the occupation force?"

"The Ministry estimates we will need 500,000 troops for occupation duty. I can have them mobilized immediately and they will be en route to the country as soon as you give the order."

"Excellent. I will give the order upon your arrival. Colonel General Akhatov will be commanding these forces, correct?"

"Yes, Praetor, although we should consider replacing him as soon as the country is secure. The General is known for his tendency to be somewhat overzealous in his dealings with occupied populations. We recalled him from Vetalian Cazelia, if you recall, for that incident with those subterranean tigers." The Army General shifted nervously as he spoke the last phrase.

"That was excessive, although it was by no means justification to dismiss such a fine commander. However, I am confident he will be able to perform the assigned task, mainly because we will be monitoring his every action without his knowledge."
"Spying on him? Is that legal?"
"As soon as I sign the Praetorial Order, it will be. You are dismissed for now, General."
"Yes, Praetor."

Ghost ops HQ, Classified location

The eight squads of Ghost ops not deployed in other countries were hard at work readying their weapons for deployment in Lord Sumguy. Their objectives, evac Lord Sumguy, destroy critical choke point for Londinian advances, and assist Sumguyan forces in holding their cities. They're uniforms were not marked with any flag, and there was no indication of them being Black Lotus or IDMC. They were to be deployed into a neighboring nation, and brought into Sumguyan territorry by Transport aircraft.

And this time
The Ghosts were not expected to survive

1st Invasion Fleet, Atlantic Ocean

The 150 ship fleet sat in the Atlantic waiting for the invasion. Aurum Domus' invovlement in this war was pretty much a secret, they were only helping out to gain land but the public wouldn't like that if they found out. Instead if Aurum Domus' presence was noted the official response would be that they were repaying British Londinium for the generous gift of a piece of Yarkai.

Admiral Samantha Oron stood on the bridge of the Phoenix class superdreadnaught Fire, she wasn't particularly happy to be invading Lord Sumguy for absolutely nothing but like all Aurum Domans she had a thirst for war and liked nothing better than fighting. The Londinians had asked that her fleet be used to invade Texas and that if extra naval support was necessary, contact Vetalian forces that would invade via Florida. The invasion of Texas would begin after the Vetalians invaded Florida. For now the Aurum Domans waited.

Undisclosed Location. Order Chapter House

As promised, the order was moving to aid the nation of Lord Sumguy. There were some reservations amongst the ranks caused by some of the opinions of the League, but that was no major impediment in the decision to assist them.

"What are the odds?", Knight Richard, the one in charge of this assignment asked the Grand Magister, he already knew it was going to be more than a challenge, but he would do the work of the Order regardless of the opposition.

"As it stands, not good. From what we are gathering many are converging against this nation and if they won't get help I doubt they will stand," the Magister replied with a grave voice.

"Even with our help?" Richard continued, wishing to have all the information he needed before heading off for what promised to be a bloodbath.

"Yes, even with our help. We have limited assets at this time that we can dispatch. Many of our Order are still in training and we cannot hurry the process," the Magister told him with regret.

"Then what will we do? How do we make our presence count?" the Knight pressed on with his line of questioning.

"I believe you already have a plan Richard. Put your training to good use, you'll need it."

"I understand, I'll bring honour to the Order,"he said, the wheels in his mind already turning.

"And Richard, just because we are sending just a 'handful' of men now, it doesn't mean that once we are ready we won't be sending more."

"Yes sir."

Indeed, for the conflict that was to come, the detachment the Order was dispatching was relatively small, only a division worth of troops, but they were well prepared for what was to come. In addition, thousands and thousands of volunteers were receiving expanded training with many of them being former members of national armies. The Order was a young organization and as such
it had a low number of troops, but that was already changing.

---

Shortly after the conversation between the knight in charge of the mission and the Magister took place, the men of the expedition force of the Order made quick preparations for departure. Given their chosen mode of transportation, they would arrive at their destination in a fairly short amount of time, but there was still a dilemma plaguing the mind of the commander.

"Do we go where we are needed most, or where we can do the most?"

Lord Sumguy
07-09-2007, 20:08
Lord Sumguy smiled bitterly as he looked at the report on his desk. "And so they descend, this is my reward for showing mercy and tolerance." He looked out his window for a moment, staring at the sunset over the capitol city. He then turned to his phone and dialed his PR advisors. "I'm going to make a short speech regarding the Londinian invasion today, inform the press."

He turned back to his desk and began writing.

Sumguaia, Hegemony Ball Memorial:

Lord Sumguy approached the podium, noting with satisfaction that the entire square was filled with television crews and reporters. He smiled, and began to speak. He started with an explanation of the current situation, as cries of outrage at the invaders issued from the crowd. After fifteen minutes he began to speak with more conviction, his voice booming out into the square.

"And so, the nation of British Londinium and the EVIL alliance are preparing to invade the Holy Empire, threatening our independance as a nation and the existence of the Hegemony. They have demanded that i surrender our sovereignity and abandon my people to be ruled by an oppresive foreign power." He said with growing anger, he was nearly shouting at this point. "I say that I shall do no such thing! I have seen far too many people of this country die for freedom to cast it aside for the mere sake of safety and appeasement! I have seen far too many people toil endlessly to make this nation what it is today, for me to allow this great structure to be torn down at the whim of an imperialist Londinian Consul! I have seen too much bravery and sacrifice displayed by my countrymen to ever betray them, and I have enjoyed too much the fruit of liberty to allow any man to ever take that from me! I will not surrender, and I will never cease resisting tyranny in all it's forms as long as there is breath in my body! I know not what you will do as a people, but as for me, I will live and die a free man!"

With that, his speech ended, and he stepped off the podium as the crowd roared in approval. An aid approached him. "Sir, shouldn't we send a responce to the Londinians?"

"The LBC was one of the news organizations we asked to attend. The Londinians will need but to listen to the speech and they will know my decision."

"Sir, you want to fight them?"

"We've won wars with worse odds before, besides, We have the Hegemony International force to defend the nation, and while BL may have an exellent navy, they will need more than ships to conquer a nation with this much land. Even if the army is destroyed and the government officially overthrown, we can always wage a guerilla war, with the complete support of the people and knowledge of the land."

OOC: I couldn't resist a bit of drama. :p If you are wondering about LS's manner of speechmaking, it is similar to that of Martin Luther King Jr.
Lord Sumguy
07-09-2007, 20:36
SIC: Sumguaia:
Lord Sumguy drove from the memorial to a meeting of the top generals within the Empire. He walked in and sat down. General Mcalpin began speaking.

"Sir, how should we resist their landing on the coast?"

"We don't. The Londinian fleet is far superior to our own navy, an attempt to drive them off would be suicidal. Keep our navy away from them to fight the other invading nations. Evacuate all cities on the east coast and move the people inland. We fight where we have the advantage, away from the coast. We are far outnumbered, so we will resort to ambushes and hit-and-run attacks. Once they get twenty or so miles inland, they will have to bring their soldiers supplies by land. We must leave them no way to rely off of the land, burn any crops that have not been harvested and evacuate every town in their path. Once this has been done, they will be vulnerable to attacks on their supply lines, which will only grow more difficult for them to protect as they advance. Aside from this, we need to set up ambushes everywhere, demoralize and confuse the enemy if you cannot face him directly. That is the general plan, i will leave the rest in your far more capable hands."

The generals agreed and left to carry out the orders they had been given.

Command Ship Sumerki

"If the Sumguians want war, we will give them war..." General Abelev switched off the television in disgust and turned to the high command gathered in his chambers. "...their country will run red and their skies will darken with the fires of their burning cities. Your forces will show no mercy, nor will they stop until the enemy is utterly subjugated."

"Yes, General. It will be as you command."
"Good. Do not disappoint me, or this mission will be your last as my field commanders."
"Now, bring in the Viceroy, I must speak to him."

The rooms were opulent and reflected the General's sybaritic, extravagant tastes, but were also carefully designed to put non-Vetalians on edge, many of whom would not appreciate the oddly threatening colors and fluid, organic designs and patterns of the furniture and decor. In the dimmed light of the room, the shadows were abundant and seemed to seep outward from the darkest parts of the chamber.

The doors at the end of the chamber opened, and in walked a man, dressed impeccably in a finely tailored dark gray suit. The Viceroy's pale and slender features, the embodiment the life of luxury in which the Vetalian elite indulged, had an eerie glow from the dimmed lighting of the Army General's private quarters.

"You wished to see me, General?"
"Yes. Viceroy Chazov, I want General Akhatov and your occupation forces to move in with the rest of the army rather than wait. It will enable us to deal with the enemy more effectively."
"Are you certain that we should allow Akhatov free reign like this?"
"It must be done. The Sumgaians are a brave, dedicated people and they will not bend to our benevolence like the Cazelians."
"Very well, but my hands are clean of whatever he does."
"Of course...the Praetor has already assured me of this."
"Thank you, General. I will send word to the Occupation Forces and they will set sail immediately."
"Good, good. You may go, if you wish, or remain for our planning session."
"I am honored, General, but I must send that order out. There's a storm coming and it will likely disrupt communications with the mainland later this evening."
"Very well, I will send a debriefing in the morning."
"Thanks. If you'll excuse me, I must get going, General."
"Of course."

The Viceroy departed, and behind him the doors closed with a loud clack. The General turned to his staff and pressed several keys on wall panel. The map lowered, and the staff began their planning session.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As they planned their invasion, the fleet moved ever closer to the Gulf of Mexico. The naval forces would soon be in place, ready to strike at the city of New Orleans and unload land forces for their push north up the Mississippi. In a week, the Occupation Forces would unload on the southern tip of Florida and work their way upward, securing the front and moving north to link up with the Londinians and secure the border between their forces.

Only a few more days, and the war would be on...(OOC: we'll be attacking in 3-5 NS days or so)
