The End of the Second United Kingdom (ATTN UK2, LS; Semi-open)

Londinian Naval Armada
South Atlantic Ocean

"There's something to be said for immense naval power," Fleet Admiral Charles Dalton said to his colleague and second-in-command, Fleet Admiral James Blair, looking up at the night sky above. He found great comfort in the stars, though he could never quite place why. But the admiral found ever greater comfort in the veritable sea of artificial lights bobbing in the waves behind his ship, and in the thousands of Londinian flags flying proudly in the night.

"Of course, Mr Dalton," Blair replied. "It's what has allowed the Republic to survive this long. There's a reason the Navy is the largest branch of the armed forces."

"And the Navy is what allows British Londinium to not only survive, but to crush those who stand in its way," Dalton said smugly.

"But, er, how is attacking the Second United Kingdom doing that?"

"It's not simply just those who directly, overtly stand in our way, Mr Blair," Dalton replied. "It's ideological enemies, enemies who threaten the ideals of the Revolution and of the People's Sovereign Republic. The decadent monarchy of UK2 must be destroyed. And, when our fleets arrive at London in...twelve hours and fifty six minutes...it will be."

As the two admirals gleefully plotted the assault on London, the fleet sailed steadily through the night for London; nothing would stop them.

To the Government of the Second United Kingdom:

The time of the Second United Kingdom is over - you face imminent destruction at the hands of one of the most powerful naval forces in the world. Millions of soldiers will wash over your country like a tsunami, destroying everything in their path - your culture, your civilization, your economy, your institutions. Your very existence hangs in the balance.

We will give you the option of unconditionally surrendering to the People's Sovereign Republic and dismantling your military forces. Think carefully before refusing this offer - doing so will cause millions of innocents to die a most painful and gruesome death.

Sincerely,
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z259/pertinax201/azzopardisig.png

"Dammit, I want action." said Commodore Heusen, slamming his fist on the table he was sitting at.

"Why, sir?"

"Cause it's been boring and cold, like it always is."

"British Londinium is invading UK2."

"Well, let's get in on it. We could use some more land."

A fleet was quickly dispatched.

The Emerald Emperor stood above a giant map of NationStates, as he often did, looking at the vastness of the Free Empire, the territory highlighted in traditional pink. He slipped his hands down to the three most familiar, the three most original colonies. Tapping the Belcher Islands, he slowly read the lines on the colony. Roughly half way through, one of his interns burst in. Garzahd made a note to fail the over eager little twerp. "SIR!" the boy said in a cracked and slightly exhausted voice, "British Londinium has just invaded the Second United Kingdom!"

A cold, heartless, and definitly disturbing laugh came from him, sending shivers down the spine of the unfortunate youth. Slowly, robotically, Garzahd turned and spoke to the intern, "Tell the Admiral of the Third Fleet in Hudson's Bay to move to SUK with a detachment of marines. Send someone to replace him in defending the Belcher Islands. GO!" Garzahd said, screaming the last word and watching the interns' terror.

Experimentally, he picked up an erasable highlighter, coloring Ireland, Mann, Scotland... maybe Wales. Come in from the northwest, hit them where they weren't expecting it. Play on the Catholics and rebels. Then, after Irelands taken, move on to the Isle of Mann. They certainly wouldn't expect it, and a quick sacking would let them launch a speedy attack on Scotland and Wales. Smiling, something that usually only happened during his public ventures, he carefully erased the highlightings he had made. Finally, Vantania would be completly reunited, returning back to the lands it fled during Boudicca's Rebellion.

Meanwhile, in the Belcher Islands, Admiral White, one of many Whites in the Navy, mustered his forces. Marines packed into ships, and the Air Force packing onto carriers. Soon, everything was ready. With a final look towards the oddly shaped Belcher Isles, the fleet departed, headed to sow destruction in SUK. The SUKenese would feel the wrath of Great Vantania.

Praetorial Palace Gardens, Vetalia City

"Our friends in British Londinium and EVIL, as you know, are making a move on UK2. Fairly significant forces en route, and it should not be an exceptionally difficult fight." Praetor Melnikov and the Vice Praetor Kosyachenko walked the grounds of the Praetorial Palace as they spoke, a holdover from the Imperial era when the most secure conversations could only be held when both parties were moving, preferably in the vast gardens where they could escape the prying eyes and ears of the courtiers.

"I take it you've already spoken with the Ministry of Defense?" The Praetor was relatively passive these days, having delegated more of his authority to the Vice Praetor as he approached his voluntary resignation.

"Yes, a field army and one of our command fleets are on tap should they be needed. We've also got 350,000 men earmarked for occupation duty once the war is over." Valerian Kosyachenko spoke with an unusual accent, one that was by and large vanished from the country. Of course, it was also true that he was approaching 130 years old, primarily thanks to advances in anti-aging treatments in past years, but it was nonetheless a dignified relic of the past.

"I don't think we will need to commit troops to the initial invasion, although significant forces are available should the need arise. For now, we should simply watch the situation develop and monitor the home front for threats. I've spoken with the Consul and it appears that they are prepared to bring this conflict to a swift resolution." Valerian continued.

"Good, good. I've spoken with the Ministry of State and they are already constructing plans for the postwar General Government. We will be able to occupy, secure, and assimilate our territory in to Greater Vetalia in no time!" The Vice Praetor paused for the Praetor's response, another old gesture long since lost to the past.

"Excellent...a propaganda coup like this would drive morale through the roof! That's exactly the thing we need right now, especially with the coming change in leadership."
"You're still planning to retire at the end of next year?" Valerian, of course, knew it to be the case, but it was more of a polite touch than anything.
"Yes, Valery, and you will become the new Praetor of Vetalia in next January, all things equal. I was, of course, elected to my position, but times have changed...our new system removes the negatives of democracy while still preserving our strong leadership."
"That's true. You've left quite a legacy, Ivan."
"I have, haven't I?"

The Praetor offered him an odd smile, one that suggested he was no more certain of his legacy than anyone else in the country.
