Diamond Proving Grounds
Diamond proving grounds were so named because of the old diamond mine that used to occupy the landscape. After it was stripped of diamonds, the military bought the land, turning it into a testing and development ground. It was in the middle of TPF’s eastern desert, and because of this it was used for many years as a top-secret facility. Today, it is no longer secret, but many highly experimental projects were still tested there. One such project was Project 119, a codename for the construction and testing of a new ultra-heavy tank, to be jointly designed by several domestic and international agencies.
Taking a sip of his coca-cola, Colonel Hassan felt the bump as his military Atlas aircraft landed on the small airstrip near Diamond Proving Ground. He was the leader of Project 119, and as such was responsible for ensuring the project went as smoothly as possible. It wasn’t Hassan’s first task; he had overseen several projects before. But, this would be one of the most challenging ones that he would oversee. This was for a number of reasons. One primary reason was due to the sheer amount of agencies working on it; off the top of his head he could name Advanced Military Research Agency, or AMRA, the Intelligence Agency, or IA, BLS, Omega Electronics and the Army. There was even more than that, and with every agency probably wanting a different direction, there would be a lot of red-tape to swim through. There was also the little fact that none of the domestic defense contractors much liked the international contractors, mainly because they had lost the vast majority to contracts to them in the last twenty years. The developers from Vault 10 would have to trudge that morass. As he stepped off the airline, the baking summer head instantly made itself known. It was well over one hundred and ten degrees. This might prove to be a problem as they worked on Project 119. He went to look for the nearest man who might be able to tell him where his office would be.
Well away, a team of agents from the Federal Police Counter-Intelligence Battalion were busy taking pictures of the Colonel. They would be a constant presence at Diamond, although, while being ever-present, would never truly be seen.
