Diamond Proving Grounds
Diamond proving grounds were so named because of the old diamond mine that used to occupy the landscape. After it was stripped of diamonds, the military bought the land, turning it into a testing and development ground. It was in the middle of TPF’s eastern desert, and because of this it was used for many years as a top-secret facility. Today, it is no longer secret, but many highly experimental projects were still tested there. One such project was Project 119, a codename for the construction and testing of a new ultra-heavy tank, to be jointly designed by several domestic and international agencies.

Taking a sip of his coca-cola, Colonel Hassan felt the bump as his military Atlas aircraft landed on the small airstrip near Diamond Proving Ground. He was the leader of Project 119, and as such was responsible for ensuring the project went as smoothly as possible. It wasn’t Hassan’s first task; he had overseen several projects before. But, this would be one of the most challenging ones that he would oversee. This was for a number of reasons. One primary reason was due to the sheer amount of agencies working on it; off the top of his head he could name Advanced Military Research Agency, or AMRA, the Intelligence Agency, or IA, BLS, Omega Electronics and the Army. There was even more than that, and with every agency probably wanting a different direction, there would be a lot of red-tape to swim through. There was also the little fact that none of the domestic defense contractors much liked the international contractors, mainly because they had lost the vast majority to contracts to them in the last twenty years. The developers from Vault 10 would have to trudge that morass. As he stepped off the airline, the baking summer head instantly made itself known. It was well over one hundred and ten degrees. This might prove to be a problem as they worked on Project 119. He went to look for the nearest man who might be able to tell him where his office would be.

Well away, a team of agents from the Federal Police Counter-Intelligence Battalion were busy taking pictures of the Colonel. They would be a constant presence at Diamond, although, while being ever-present, would never truly be seen.

As his plane stopped completely, noise was growing up behind the horizon.

In a few miles, about a mile before him, six Aerospace Logistics heavy airlifters were landing on the ground. There was nothing to display yet on the Project 119, but the technology to be used in it would borrow heavily from projects in more developed condition.
Most of the technology would be shared from the AAT - Advanced Assault Tank. A dozen of various tanks were unloaded, all captured equipment from ALC previous campaigns, and with them several 40-tonne AATs rolled out from the planes.

To Erich Siegard, born in the near-polar northern lands of Vault 10, hot, dry air climate immediately caused a headache, and he quickly escaped into plane's shadow, directing operations through loudspeakers. He was hardly a suitable person to be a representative for ALC in the Project 119, but at least this demonstration wouldn't be long.

- "Kriegsbahn corporation. How can we help you?"
Yeah, a good question indeed.
- "It's Malcolm Banes. Switch me to Hans Friedman, please."
- "I'm sorry, authorized persons only. Would you like a department manager instead?"
Cute-voiced "phone girl", though in all probability actually a 40 year old Arabic woman with 50 year old voice processing software, spoke with hardly any surprise. As if many people outside the company knew the name.
The question was slowly changing.

- "Yes, please. Panzerwaffen chief Jason Frels, please."
- "I'm sorry, I'm not authorized to do that."
If it was a question at all.
- "Thanks for your help." - Malcolm hung up the phone.

Hassan dispatched men to assist the men in unloading the tanks and other technology from the aircraft. Then he had aides show them their rooms, which were large and full of modern appliances. He made sure to tell the aides to tell his guests to get some sleep. After breakfast the next day, they would get straight to work.

Cafe Vienna,
Warsaw,
Wanderjar

The cafe was the latest "fad" in Wanderjar, styled after one of the most famous bars back in the 1880s, the "Vienna" served a large number of clients, all upper-class of course. Today however, being a holiday, it was filled to the top, except for a small table in the back, where a short man sat alone.

"Damn that guy" thought the 'nameless' diplomat "He's already late"

Fact is he was waiting for a TPF'ian contact, the "man" had proved to be quite source of information, handing out several minor diplomatic codes to the Soviets, as a gesture of good-will, this had allowed the Central Soviet Intelligence to learn very interesting facts about the status of the TPF'ian diplomatic corps.

Still, today there was something more important to discuss, the agent had set the meeting time at 13:00, it was already 13:05 and he hadnt showed up.

"Damn him to hell, if he doesnt show up right now, I'm leaving"

The Wanderjarians were rightly feared for the harsh punishments given to spies.

Diamond Proving Grounds

By this night, preparations for the first demonstration were mostly over. Over the simulated battlefield, remotely controlled tanks and stationary objects were placed, and a few people left to keep watch at the field via CCTV.

Doing it over two heads was a silly, but the only way out. Malcolm dialed the number at the intercom. A minute.
Two. Five. Ten.

- Hi, Mal. Sorry, we had a border fight. What's up?
- Stuck with the suspension. On 119, I mean. Cn'get to Friedman.
- Lost his number?
- They redir to a sec. Can throw me on direct?
- No problem, I'll tell the tech. Call him at 2-7D3-A6 anytime for this.
- Thanks. See you.
