FF thread idea

Mereshka
06-09-2007, 00:29
Well, I tried this a long while ago and it sank without a ripple, but I suppose I'll try it again. My idea is that the universes of the different Final Fantasies become intertwined, and the characters interact. Say, Cloud joins with Tidus, or Sephiroth with whatshisface from ten. Also, you would be quite free to make your own characters. There will be a storyline behind it however. If you wish to join, post these things:

Existing or New:
Name:
Age:
Hair color:
Eye color:
Weight:
Height:
Physical features:
Short Bio:

Characters already claimed:
Sephiroth, by me.
Big baddie behind the crossover: Also me.
Squall Leonhart: Shenyang

I would join because fantasy threads are entertaining, but I don't know enough abotu FF to even think about joining.

Haha, I don't know all there is either. I've only played three, and out of those three, I've only competed one. Go ahead and join friend.

Yes, they are. Very futuristic in fact, and very fantastical. 7, 10, and 12.

FF8, the game responsible for intro-ing Squall is semi-modern, dependent on the area in question. I can easily transition Squall over to a 'psuedo-PMT' setting though. (part of me wants to do the Advent Children version of Cloud, but I'm sticking to my 'gunblades' on this one) (ha, ha, badly delivered FF8 weapon jokes)

much as this seems interesting to me, it does run into the "what the heck does this have to do with NS?" issue.

I've had some time to think about it, and here's my say, for what its worth.

"I say we go ahead with the FF RP. I say we make our mistakes while we can. What's the worst that can happen? The mods close the thread? Then that's too bad, we had an idea, and we did our best to see it through its execution. If it's closed we all shake it off and move on with our lives. I know I'd enjoy it, and I'll bet there's more than 4 of us who're willing to give it a shot. In short, I say go for it."

Here's Squall's short bio, as related by me:

Age: 21 at this point (17 in-game)
Height: 5' 8"
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue
Defining Physical Features: scar across face (upper right to lower left)

Bio:
Grew up in orphanage (parents unknown (doesn't care)), joined Balamb Garden at 6 (BG is an elite military academy which trains Merc. SF called SeeDs), became a SeeD at 17, orchestrated the downfall of Sorceress Ultimecia (main antagonist).

Personality:
In game: Taciturn, Introverted, Always deep in thought, Bad-ass
Here: Semi-introverted, Distrusting of others (save 1 or 2 char., TBD), Bad-ass

Weapon: Gunblade (revolver model) (essentially a type of 'vibroblade' from any manner of other media (such as Star Wars))

That's the short bio, the full bio requires that you:
A. play the game all the way through
B. read the very long wikipedia article

True dat, FF8 power.

Still, FF8 is my absolute favorite, the first I played, and the first game I ever bought. I'm a bit of a heretic in the FF community, I say FF8 is better than FF7.

You can see why I have an attachment to the characters.

Really, there's no way to describe the series in any specific terms. Save a few exceptions each game is an entirely separate storyline, new characters, new settings, the whole 9 yards. At its most basic, most FF games are Fantasy RPGs with a healthy dose of modern to futuristic technology, depending specific game.

you know, almost every game had a different magic system, an at least Somewhat different skill advancement system, and so on.

you might want to pin down which ones you're using.

also, how are you going to run this? there's a limit if everyone's the 'good guys'

what sort of a world?

hehe. you could actually cheat a little bit and get this to fit into the rules if you had a couple of nations being played out as well as all these individual characters. gives you a plot/setting too.

edit: heck, i'll even be one of them, if you want.

Trust me, if you know anything at all about the 'mechanics' of magic, swords, or modern to post-modern technology, and are willing to operate outside the realm of really defined regulations, like gravity, and phyisics, then you can free-form the rest.

BTW: my rough count, says theres approx. 57 games relating to FF, ignoring movies, anime, and non-game spin-offs.

Shenyang
13-09-2007, 01:21
This is true, but they only really work when Square-Enix wants it to. Just look at Squall's attack 'Lionheart' in FF8. He's airborne, at least 40 feet up, for like, 15-20 seconds, at a minimum.
Shenyang
13-09-2007, 01:23
Yes, it is. To differentiate, I'll add the 2 movies, for 59 individual works, not counting anime, OVA, manga, and other spin-offs.

true. he still comes Down though. and the regular soldiers still need jet-hover-things to fly etc etc.

so... it's more like they're less applicable to heroes and major villains, than that they're not there.

and... a little bit flexible in terms of what actually works for mechanical things...

ok, the game world has it's own laws of physics, and they don't quite match RL ones :P

or at least turned down the gravity a Lot [though how the heck they're not bouncing around every time they take a step as a result, i don't know...]

*ponders* i don't like playing a bad-guy much...

but if you want to do the typical 'expansionist nation taking over the world, heroes start off as freedom fighters/mercenaries of some sort' plot, i can do the expansionist bit.

just don't expect it to actually be the work of some big super villain of dubious sanity who's actually trying to destroy the world.

Yeah, every fight in that movie defies, logic, physics, and just about everything else. Just look at Cloud v. Sephiroth, either motorcycle chase, or Good Guys v. Bahamut Sin. It's like someone flipped the gravity switch to off, and forgot about it.

I think everyone on this site, and I mean this as no offense to anyone, but seriously, every single person on this site is of dubious sanity. Myself included.

I'll do Cloud too if you want, I've got no problem running 2 protaganists, as I've shown time and again. For that matter, I know Cloud and Squall way too well.

One question though, is it okay if I use FF7AC Cloud, basically the same, except he's less of a jerk and more troubled. That and he has a 6 piece sword.
Mereshka
13-09-2007, 02:04

for all your bad-guy needs:

Angermanland taking over the world!

i tend to end up with an excess of characters anyway.

added bonus: most of my guys tend not to be stereotypically evil.

give me a world to play around in, and I'll do it happily.

Final Fantasy's more fun with the occasional epic army level battle anyway.

oh, if you've ever seen me RP.... FF tech suits me down to the ground... so much weirdness :D

[the fight in the Garden with the motorbike troops in eight just rocks. one of the random dudes gets ridden at by a guy on a bike and, if memory serves, steps sideways and swings his long sword to send the guy flying. probably cut him in half, too. great stuff.]

13-09-2007, 02:23

Angermanland
13-09-2007, 02:30
'course, without some ooc context of the world we're playing in.. i'll have no idea what i'm doing... hehehe.

first and foremost thing, that's kinda fundamental to how the world works:

magic.

in 8, it was a scientific phenomena based on the [mostly artificial?] GFs. GFs were, in battle, essentually super-spells.
in 7, it was material based. summons are litterealy super spells
in 10, it was innate based on level. literally magic. Aeons were a seperate entities that fought as such.
10-2, well, hybrid of 10 and the garment grid. no aeons, but instead a 'super' version of themselves by way of the garment grid.
12 it must be taught, but is then innate. eons[sp] function as in 10, except they do not protect the summoner, and their summoning is not limited to special individuals [at least, not in the same way]
can't remember the rest, if i ever knew them.

or are we playing in a world without any? [that'd give the characters a new experience] or perhaps a world where it's a new phenomena? [which would be Great, as it'd allow me to shape it to my research as needed :P]
Xiscapia

Angermanland
13-09-2007, 02:32
on the subject of words: jerkiness is to move in an un-smooth manner, a form of the verb jerk. jerkarse is an insult. to be a jerk [noun] is to be generally uncaring and/or anti-social. possibly part of the origin of the insult, but that's just a guess.

the word for jerk-like attributes is probably... non existent. one'd probably just list them out.
Angermanland
13-09-2007, 02:33
"I think everyone on this site, and I mean this as no offense to anyone, but seriously, every single person on this site is of dubious sanity. Myself included."

around here it's just a fundamentally accepted fact. [my family is weird, i'm not exactly an exception :P]
Mereshka
13-09-2007, 02:35
Well, as for how the world is, I'm leaving most of it up to you guys to figure out. I will say however, that almost all of it is an illusion. As for magic, I've always prefered materia, but the characters can choos I suppose. For custom, they can learn by nitermingling with existing ones. (I'll probably be RP'ing a few other existing ones by the way, like Tidus, or Auron, maybe Vahn.) So, the customs would sort of have an advantage, because they could learn multiple techniques.
Angermanland
13-09-2007, 03:39
*ponders* humm.

right. then i need to figure out a way to do this.

i never did put up a character, but my guys are going to be 'enemies' anyway.

heh. methinks I'll create a new system for the bad guys then. which means anyone with the ff8 system has access to it, come to think of it. yay drawing.

*ponders* I'm thinking a summon/limit break hybrid that fuses them with their local equivalent of the guardian forces... let's call them Deus Amps [divine amplifiers] powered by some sort of crystal. any one being can only have one at a time. they can be artificially created, but have to be imbued with the power of the relevant Deus before they Do anything. [the exact process varies from one Deus to another.]

'magic' would be tied to the crystal and technology. so you don't 'cast' so much as power a weapon with the Deus Amp and That does the casting. [unlike materia, it's not so much that the Amp is a power added to the weapon, as that it is the power source For the weapon. the weapon, generally, is a useless hunk of metal without it, and gets nothing from it if not specially designed to use it.]

Dei [don't think i spelled that right?] are sentient beings, minor gods in their own rights, really. so they'll chose sides based on what They think. some might help the good guys, some might help the bad, and forcing them to do something they don't want to is extremely difficult, at the very least.

which is why my guys arn't really 'evil' for the most part.... most of the dei you want anything to do with wouldn't help them if they were.

how's that sound?

edit: as for why that took too long: 3 way msn convo regarding the resolution of duels and battles in another thread. took a while.

look alright? that's before the host of lackeys and random soldier types.

the reason they're the bad guys? they're taking over the world, and newly conquered territories Really don't like the fact that they've been, you know, conquered.

Sounds good to me. Oh, and as for the Illusion thing, the people themselves are real, but their background is not. The big baddie simply picked up some people from different universes, mind-wiped em, and dropped em in his playground.

question:

the people getting moved Into Illusia notice it happening, all well and good...

but the people already there, would they notice a new city appearing?

or would their memories and such be edited to think it had always been there?

in the first case the Empire can have fun trying to figure it out. in the second, Midgar would already be on the list of "places to invade" ....

sort of, anyway.
