The 001-NNEMP-EPFCG Long Range Air-to-Air "Air Raid" Mk. 1 - $10 Million
Description:
A modified version of the Nike Hercules designed to carry a non-nuclear EMP warhead. The Air Raid is used against multiple target aircraft at long range. It is designed to be launched from a modified B-52, or from a mobile ground based installation. The Air Raid utilizes GPS long range, then utilizes it's built in RADAR systems at short range to reach it's targets.
Upon deployment, an ammoniumpochlorate engine ignites and launches the missile. WIthin the first 60 seconds, the missile has achieved mach 4, at which point the first stage is ejected. From there, a Ram-Jet engine on high-performance fuel takes over flight, keeping it at a steady speed of mach 4+ (based on fuel/ need for range).
Upon reaching it's target, the Air Raid deploys it's payload, an explosively pump flux compression generator (NNEMP Generator). The generator functions by feeding magnetic flux and compressing it through a magnetic coil. As the localized explosive punches open the generator, the compressed magnetic flux expands into a wave of electro-magnetic energy, from between 100 feet to 3 and a half miles. The radius is determined by the charge put into the capacitor bank, as well as the spread distance of the targets.
