Atmospheric fireworks above Studium III, this morning.
STUDIUM, Studii System, Xithis Combine (IPA) - Celebrations of a distinctly Xithis style were held all across (or rather, underneath) Planet Studium today, amid announcements from the Prime Queen that the eight billionth Xithis had hatched earlier this morning.
The eight billionth Xithis was a specially-fertilised female, whose name, if translated into Basic from her pheromone identifier, would sound something like 'Klkiknika'.
Flotillas of the Xithis Combine Fleet joined the celebrations by using their particle accelerator cannons in a most unusual way - by firing a low-level particle stream into the magnetosphere of the planet, they created a fireworks display that could be seen for thousands of miles around.
Beneath the surface celebrations were well under way, with hundreds of millions of Xithis taking the day off work to visit commemorative museum exhibits and watch numerous performances of Xithisi art through the ages. Large, cross-habitat festivals are planned for later this evening, as Xithis everywhere regard this as a 'family' occasion rather than a 'national' one.
"It good to see," Prime Queen Rithix was quoted as saying. "So many our children, living in prosperity. New, grand era for Xithis Combine is this!"
While the celebrations continue, however, the National Governing Body continues to be dogged by critics who ask whether or not the combined habitats can support such sustained growth levels for much longer, and if not, what they intend to do about it. Last year the Population Ministry made recommendations that the habitats be expanded, despite Engineering Ministry complaints that doing so without detailed structural scans could be potentially dangerous.
But for the time being, Xithis are just looking forward to the festivities.
