The Discovery of Lands Mark II

Vontanas

A ship poked tentavily into Atlantic waters, followed by two more. These waters had not been travelled in a time, and the marine life was bold and unafraid of the interlopers. A dolphin jumped beside the ship, and it was all a man could do not to spear it with a harpoon. That and the fact he didn't have a harpoon.

The ships soon reached the golden sands of a beach strip, near towering mountains. The crews disembarked, the sunset turning the ocean even more sapphiric, the sands even more golden. After three days long hike, seeing abundant fruit, populous and curageous animals, and beautiful landscape, they had arrived at the top of Mount Ndvolu, tallest mountain in Old Vantania, being able to see the whole land.

What they say was breathtaking, majestic purple mountains around them and to the distance. The vague outline of Bigail's gigantic forests, the magnifence of Lake Moon, and the rivers flowing in and out of it. The plains around Mt. McLargeHuge, and the peaks of the distant Stormkeeper Mountains. He could even see the crumbling ruins of a few cities here and there, saddening him. The damage was undone, with the exception of the ruins, and indeed had become more beautiful. It would take a day to get back down to the coastal plains, but they had seen what they could see. They sent back a message to the Free Empire, however there was a glitch and it went to all world governments.

Official Land Survey:
To: World Governments
From: Vantanian Land Survey
After our initial survey of the lands of Old Vantania, we have found that they have healed completly and are more beatiful, rich, and picturesque then before the fire. What's more, the charred ruins of a few of the larger cities remain as solid foundations for future construction. We feel Old Vantania is fit for colonization.

There will be plots in this, seeing as how people can't handle with out. If you think your plot is small, keep in mind the place is the size of Russia. You may have one plot free, no conflict. From there to get more you'll have to conquer or buy from others. In the east, there is oil, in the west there is mineral resources, and in the center their are dense forests. All of the land is perfect for farming.

The Alfegos government heard the reports of a new land filled with potential and resources. Therefore, as soon as possible, a fleet was dispatched to claim this land.

Accopmanying the 8 transports of the 3rd Expeditionary Mechanised Infantry were a medium detachment of naval forces.

=====

Approaching the designated area 200 nautical miles away were the two battleships and carrier that were designated for the fleet to accompany them, meeting up with the existing 4 destroyers, 4 frigates, 8 gunboats and a new Missile-Cruiser in the centre of the formation.

Trailing 50 miles behind were 8 container ships, 4 carrying onbaord the prefabricated structures of the massive forward command centre and 4 carrying a sea floor processing depot.

=====

They had received the information needed for this by the GravSat satellite above, that had passed a few hours ago. It had detcted the possibility of a vast oil field that would make the nation self-sufficient for many years.

However, there would be a fight.

Armen Zeroun's Office

"Come in."
"Good morning sir, your coffee...now, we've a busy morning ahead. Lets see...you're meeting that new minister today, a few disciplinaries from downstairs, a review of our policy on the Cazelian territories, and...New Vantania appears to have offered their old territories for colonization by other nations..."
"Really? Well, the Chancelloress would be pleased...hmm. Get me General Strom."
"Yes sir."

2 minutes, 1 phone call later

"So it's agreed. You'll get 2 military bases and some of the credit, and we'll pick the area. Done. As ever, it's a pleasure General."

Such deals were common between the ministries, with various members agreeing verbally support in return for fund transfers, credit with the Chancelloress, or other favours.

General Strom's Office

"You requested me sir?"
"Ah, Commandant. Right, ObServ will be getting to you a series of photographs of a series of islands - and we're claiming a piece of them. They belonged to the nation "Old Vantania", long since gone for "New Vantania". No doubt there'll be competition for this little island chain, so make sure it's a swift operation to secure it. Take engineers and surveyors with you, contact the Interior Ministry and see what they'll accept in return for a few of their guys. Now, the Interior will want a piece of this, so tell them the land will be as flat as a pancake when we're done and they'll get to build an awesome new settlement on there."
"Yes sir. Any other requirements?"
"Yes commandant. I want the NBC forces leading this up - researchers tell me this land is ex-chemical warfare, but rich in minerals to the west - and that's where we're landing. I want men out there as soon as possible. Get back to me on progress, I need to convene the council."
"Yes commandant."

Saluting, he turned 180 degrees and marched out of his office. Heading to his own, he began relaying orders to the NBC Forces, the Barronian specialist fourth service, and an army unto themselves.

3 days later

"Forward Standard, relay positions to fleet and arrange formation."
"Aye sir. Forward standard, begin arrange."

The sounds of the water churning beginning to drown out the band as the ships pulled away from Barronia, Operation: Flag Drop had begun. Within 3 days, the Barronian Amphibious assault battlegroup, supported by a Logisitics Task Force, would be arriving at Old Vantania, and would begin setting up the necessary command structure and surveying stations that would ultimately decide Barronia's decisions on her soon-to-be-newfound territory.

Task Captain Arthur Bowden was at the helm on this operation, the significance of it impressed deeply into him - Barronia needed new territory, for strategic, financial, industrial and domestic purposes. He must not lose Barronia's territory on these islands.

Thus far, all was well with the voyage to the islands - the crew were happy, the soldiers fed and ready, the transports accompanying them making good headway and no problems reported with the rather bulky cargo they contained - a temporary port, deliverable through a beaching ship, an entire command base, along with several outposts; various digging and road-laying equipment, and surveyance gear. Lots of surveyance gear.

From the map transmitted by Vontanas, and Barronia's tradition, they would be landing near the entrance to Long River, sending craft upstream to further secure their claim. Sat in the back of the command deck of the lead ship was a single Barronian flag - it was customary for the first man on the beach to plant it in the ground as soon as they had landed.

"Officer - begin broadcasting the Barronian claim on public channels. You, prep the craft for launch. The usual procedure, 500 yards up the beach before stopping and unloading. I want some quick patrols over the island, followed by the more thorough stuff once we've landed."
"Aye sir!"
Alfegos
02-09-2007, 21:45
The Alfegos fleet was now inside the designated area. The frigates broke off and began to lay bright indigo boys around the claimed area. Interspersed with these were a couple of sensor bouys and intellignet mines, that would deter any intruders.

=====

Meanwhile, the 8 transports began to deploy the landing craft. There was a crash as the front companies hit the shore, to the accompaniment of the roar of their IFVs as they crashed on and up the beach. They would first set up a perimeter, while the rest would secure the area and start in the construction of the forward command buildings. First would be the primary defence units and radar hub, and then their accomodation units. They would start on the geological survery units the next day.

=====

The 4 other transports were busier still: they would be laying the 4 drilling platforms and communications unit, that would form the first part of the survey station.

Ruins of Latsupia

The initial exploration crew had made it to the beach, now circling around Kneece to the remnants of some port city. The captain set fought onto the beautiful beaches, setting the New Vantanian flag, on a pole with a Fluffy Turtle on the top, and a decorated spearhead on the bottom. Initial searching of the village found nothing of use, save a few crumbling ruins the men could sleep in. With a little work, they salvaged some construction material from less useful ruins to put a roof on the city hall. From there, they sent out hunting teams and waited for the New Vantanian colonization force to arrive.

Atlantic Ocean

The initial team sailed hard, a good amount of colonteers* and penal laborers following the militants. They carried various supplies, prebuilt facilities, construction supplies, food, weapons, munition, the works. They were determined to seize Kneece as a foothold for further conquest on the mainland. Admiral Black stood straight, looking at a virtual hologram of Old Vantania. Several nations were moving in towards the land. He cursed inwardly, watching as the blips and blops moved further towards Old Vantania. Fortunately, there seemed no competition for Kneece. He could see Lake Moon and the Bay of Bigail becoming major hotzones. Fortunately, New Vantanians had an advantage over all the other nations. They knew the intricancies of the land. Perhaps they would share them with their allies.

The word Colony had a bitter and sour fragrance for the ears of the regular Damiran citizen. It did not differ much for the top officials. But many wanted to strive forward, to use what was learned in the past to strive for a better future. Eventually it was this part that prevailed in this case.

With a sound majority in the parliament and with the endorsement of the new president of The Principality, Liviu Librescu, a new colony, organized as a protectorate, was to be established on the offered lands.

---

South of Old Vantania, Recon Fleet.

"Commander, a call for you," one of the sailors on the assault carrier Alba informed his commanding officer. It was not an easy task to do and as the soldier waited for his superior to wake up, he could only dread what was going to happen next. The temper of his captain was legendary.

"Can't one guy get some sleep on this ship!?" the commander all but yelled at his subordinate as he made way towards the offending gadget. Luckily for the subaltern he was quickly forgotten as the man started talking at the phone.

"Yes admiral, yes sir, understood," were the only words the commander was muttering as he was taking in everything being said. Normally the man on the other end would have had the benefit of a full video conference, but after witnessing the ruffian like appearance of the ship's captain he decided that rather than warning him every time on it he'd just use the phone, and besides, it was not yet a matter of life and death.

Once the conversation ended the commander turned towards the waiting underling and started talking.

"You're lucky. Inform the fleet about a new bearing, we're to head towards the island of Kneece and establish an outpost for The Principality.

"Yes sir!" the officer replied, obviously relieved by the orders.

Shortly afterwards the recon fleet, now transformed in the vanguard of the colonization process started heading towards its intended destination.

The primary defences and accomadation units were now complete, secured into the foundation of rock 200 metres up from the beach. NOw the other survey buildings and ancillary buildings were being put up further along the designated zones. It was getting late now, so once the men had finished the setting up of the buildings they went to their accomodation units, which had been equipped by the ancillary staff transported on a civilian ferry that afternoon.

=====

The 4 drills were also in place, anchored to the seafloor by bolts 20 metres long. They had started drilling, and pumping the mud into the small storage cylinders dropped around the area. Once they hit oil, the automated well would quickly cap the well, and wait until the large storage tanks were ready. One had already been linked up, but expected capacity was that it would be full in 4 hours.

That was what would be set up before they turned in for the night.

=====

A scout party had surveyed on foot some ruins that had been spotted by satellite 20 miles further down the coast. They were eeriely silent, reminiscent of the abandoned villages in the deadlands back home.

Further into the ruins, the heard the lapping of the sea. They investigated further, and found an old harbour. It would only be functional for the small to mid-small transports of the fleet, but was almost in perfect repair. It was a brilliant prize, that was shown immediately to high command in Alfegos.

=====

The senate was aroar as the debate came to a close. The majority was one that was small, and disliked by many of the more sensible members of the senate.

But democracy was democracy.

=====

The government issued a warning to be broadcast via all frequencies every half hour by the forces there:

"The coastline of this island stretching from the tips of the crescent of the Stormbreak mountains is under Alfegos control. Any ships that enter the area upt to 20 miles from the shore will be regarded as an enemy and fired upon if no clearence is presented by them."

=====

Meanwhile, an unarmed flotilla proceeded towards the island, carrying supplies for the new plan. Most was military defences, but a few were more accomodation cells and accompanying structures. They were planning to stay.

The 20 container ships made their way towards the island.

7th Stealth Flotilla

The small group of Maldorian vessels quieted sailed through the ocean waters towards the coordinates marked on their databases. This expedition had been a secret one set up by the War Chamber of The Mandalorian Empire. If it were told to the public, the majority of Maldorians would demand that all ships be used in the defense of Maldorians. Yet however, this group of vessels had still been sent. A requirement for more land has been set by the War Chamber.

The various frigates, destroyers, and one or two aircraft carriers moved in from the north of the island.

"Sir, the island is over the horizon. Shall we proceed?"

"Of course! Keep an eye out for any other navies. We wouldn't want any entanglements."

OOC: Just a heads up, the chemicals are no danger. If they were, then I wouldn't be doing this now. They've long since worn off, but they still have an aftereffect which I will detail later.

IC:

The ships arrived, finally, on Kneece. There, they quickly met up with the initial surveying team, setting up the pre-fabbed facilities. They quickly started patrolling the isle, to the best of their abilities, hunting the populous animals of Kneece, deer, rabbits, birds, and the like. Meanwhile back in the three pre-fabbed cities, the colonteers were hard at work developing their own land. Often there was discrepancy, as the colonteers were given a bill guaranteeing them a certain amount of free land as long as they develop it. A few of the families took their old land from before the Exodus, but with them aside, the land was handed out on a first come first served basis.

Official Diplomatic Announcment:
To: Vantanian Colonizers
From: Emerald Emperor Garzahd Redmark I; Free Empire of New Vantania
The Free Empire has planted flag on the isle of Kneece and has started the colonization process. Thus, we declare the Isle of Kneece as the Province of Kneece of the Free Empire of Great Vantania. The name change is due to the fact we have reunited with Old Vantania.

12 Miles North of Island

Marshall Ra`Dok glared through his large black binoculars, casting his eyes upon the land he so fervently desired. He slowly lowered them, a grim smile coming over his face. Ra`Dok, a member of Commissar Davis' so called 'Inner Circle', had not been granted any official authority to colonize this island, however it made no difference to him... his colonial aquisitions were growing, and this island would make a grand addition to the Union. Taking with him the 27th Expeditionary Force, Admiral Kolzer's 12th Fleet, and over 4,000 volenteer Legionnaires out of Virticon City, he was now fully prepared to stake a claim in this 'New World'.

"General Baroston, are the landing craft ready?", questioned Ra`Dok as he looked down over the some 300 Amphibious Assault Vehicles sitting in the water, and the 400 MHAV-24's hovering right above it. "Yes sir... all landing forces are prepared and ready for landing.", reported the German Officer, standing to attention as his name was called. "Then let it begin."

The Landing

Under the guns of the massive Overlord Superdreadnought, the landing force sped towards the island, 700 vehicles and over 6,000 men in the first wave. As the MHAV's sped onto the sandy shores they fired random frags from their Automatic Grenade Launchers into the forest, a precautionary measure to scare off any would be resistance. The AAV's followed closely, unloading Naval Legionnaires unto this new land, whom promptly moved forward, securing positions.

Pssssshhhhhttttt... "No resistance encountered. Native Presence is negative..." The radio transmission was a positive sign as the non-combat landing craft followed in, loaded to the brim with vehicles, troops, supplies and construction material. Within four hours over 45,000 Combat personel had landed on the island, with an additional 120,000 Non-Combat Personel on the ground, working non-stop to set up a base of operations for the force.

Ra`Dok City, or so it was being called, was the new camps name, as trenches, concrete bunkers, fuel dumps, ammo drop offs, trailers, RADAR installations, sand bag walls, machine gun posts, SAM sites and all other manner of installations were being errected.

As the vanguard fleet approached the island of Kneece, it was impossible for the advanced sensors on-board to miss the flurry of activity.

"What the heck...?" came the question from a confused sailor. It was obvious that someone was already here and that information was let's say, a bit faulty.

"What does it look like to you sailor? Someone went ahead of us and claimed the Island, this should teach those old coots at Headquarters to get a grip on things!" but even though there was anger in his voice the commander already realized what happened. Given the priority this action had until now, only a few recon mission had taken place and as such little was known about the land.

But all that was about to change as satellites, planes and ships were going to support this endeavour.

"Ensign, call the captain of the Liberty and order him to set sail north-west, there's an island chain there I want claimed ASP! We'll follow soon."

"Yes sir!"

"Now, where were we? Contact the colony ahead, I want to send them our greetings,"and all of a sudden, with ease given by years of practice his entire demeanour changed.

"Greetings from The Principality of Damirez, we come to these lands in good spirit."

The message was broadcasted by the Damirezans, and all activity was stopped. Everyone stood in stand-still for a few seconds, before chaos ensued. Military patrols came running into the ports, standing in a ready position at the beaches. Artillery swivveled and pointed towards the Damirezans. The civilians silently ran for cover.

So it was, neither side firing a shot. Slowly, the Vantanians responded, "Greeting Damirezans from the Great Vantanian Province of Kneece."

With the messages received there was little doubt as to who the colonizers of the island were. As per protocol the ships avoided displaying any over acts of hostility while the commander continued discussions.

"We are glad to see these fine lands becoming once again prosperous, people of Kneece. We would like to inquire as to any possible future relations between our colonies and to promote good understanding on these lands.

While the fleet was keeping busy with the Vonatanians, the Liberty was fast reaching the claimed islands. With proper support it was easy to establish a proper Damiran claim. All was need now was for the rest of the fleet and further complements to arrive.

The group had arrived. With the soldiers came settlers and engineers that hopped out with the Marines/ Construction parts also were sent...

"Anything?" questioned the Admiral.

"No sir. Nothing at all."

Soldiers and tanks were the first to get out. Following them were the settlers and construction equipment. A small squad soon moved inland, looking for a prime location to begin construction. The rest of the army waited along the coast as the stealth vessels headed back for Maldorians to report of the findings are to send more men...

Convinced that the Damirans were not going to attack, the civilians came out from their cover and began working on their properties again. Meanwhile, most of the soldiers continued the patrols over the island, scouring for more foodstuffs to feed the colony. It wasn't hard.

The civil servants began scouring the island, determined to find out what resources where on the island. Already, the island was found to be thickly forested, abundant animals, and good soil conditions. However, they were there to find minerals, springs, anything that could be of use.

Perhaps most importantly, a flotilla disembarked from the colony, sailing east from Kneece. There mission was simple. Find out who else had set up colonies, establish who were allies, and who were foes. Pass on the information up the chains of command and to their allies.

"You are welcome to set up an embassy within the Province of Kneece, and we would like to send an ambassador with you to your colony."

On the seafloor, the drills had hit oil: all four. As the mud was pumped away into the sea in place of gas and oil, the go-ahead was given to 2 super-tankers to come to pick up the oil. At 3 quarters of a kilometre long, one of these would carry many thousands of gallons of oil.

The storage complex was now ready: 20 huge tanks stretching 20 metres from the seafloor. The oil began to pour in.

=====

On land, the survey station was also having luck. After explosives had reaveled another oil pocket, stretching from quarter of a mile inland to 20 miles inland, another well was set up, pumping oil into the underwater complex.

=====

Further along the coast, more prefabs were being built in the ruined village, now called New Milkavich, on the old foundations.

The workers came in to finsh off the concrete village. Now they would wait for the heavy machinery from the transports to come, to start turning this dock into a port.

=====

The Alfegosians had more plans. They had found along the coast 4 more villages: one to the north and one right on the edge of the Alfegos claimed terrotory in the south. The rest were streched down equally between the two.

A coastal town had been found, named New Polinas, that was also crawling with construction workers. First they would build plain accomodation units for the Alfegos military. Then they would start moving in civilians, who had signed up to the colonisation program.

"You are welcome to set up an embassy within the Province of Kneece, and we would like to send an ambassador with you to your colony."

"Your representative is welcomed aboard our ship, we will deploy a small patrol boat to deliver our own representative and pick yours up," the commander replied to the Vontanians.

Inside the command deck of the Assault Carrier one of the officers specially prepared for these kind of tasks started preparing for his new mission.

"Try to gauge their intentions, don't do anything foolish and establish good relations."

"Yes sir," came the quick answer. As the man left the deck and made way towards his transport, another officer asked a question.

"Sir, why didn't you use a helicopter? It would have done the job faster."

"I know that, but this leaves us with more time to prepare for our guest and plot our next steps here. Most likely they're aiming at getting some intel from us and although I'll share, there are some things best left alone."

"Yes sir."

Once the boat returned, the fleet would set sail for the west.

Imperial 6th fleet approaching unclaimed land mass

Vesevi stood out on one of the observation platforms looking out across the open ocean off in the distance stood a ghost like mass shrouded in fog...that was to be the Imperial Kingdom's new prize. A prize which Vesevi and General Ivan were to deliver..

Fortunately for them having a sizable invasion force being diverted from another engagement would make exploration and security much easier.

Being cautious due to the unknown nature of the land Vesevi ordered the launch of several AWACS and recon fitted fighter sweeps of the proposed landing site and patrols to conduct CAP's around the perimeter of the fleet..as an added precaution Vesevi broadcasted the following message over several different frequencies in hopes that if anyone was there before them they could avoid any conflicts...at least for now

Transmission from Imperial 6th Fleet to all parties in the area

This is Admiral Vesevi of the Imperial Kingdom of Gataway's sixth fleet...we have come with the intention of laying a land claim....we are not seeking any aggressive military actions.

We have several government envoys on board and would be willing to send them to meet with you to discuss diplomaticaly any problems or issues that may arise.

Meanwhile, on Kneece, the Damirezan ambassador was taken genorously, and led to a cottage that would serve for an embassy building. The Vantanian ambassador boarded, the ship. He was a kind looking, harmless old man, always wearing a smile. Very deceptive of the fact he was a cold, heartless, and manipulative bastard. Once arriving back on the ship, he stepped out with a smile, hunched over to make him look kind and harmless. He coughed slightly, saying in a warm, cheery voice, "Greetings. "Admiral the recon flights have returned and their film analyzed...we project this would be the best place to land..."

A young officer turned and pointed to a sat image of the landmass..before continuing..

"This area has a river extending all the way into the interior of the landmass and provides us a quick connection to the other side of the continent which would be greatly beneficial for trade or military movement."

"Yes...that would be a grand idea indeed Lieutenant...order the fleet onward I don't want to waist anymore time."

Vesevi spoke calmly and confidently bellowing out smoke from his cigar...the mood was interrupted however when a young radar operator burst onto the bridge

"Sir we have contacts approaching from the west..they appear to be neutral at this point but have yet to be identified."

Vesevi wasn't surprised..surely other nations would flock to the same chunk of land...

"Send a transmission requesting identification...and remind them we are not coming in as hostiles..keep my updated via comsat."

"Aye sir."

The young radar op rushed back to his post and forwarded the transmission

Transmission to unidentified vessels

This is the Imperial 6th fleet we request to know your intentions and country or origin...we are not conducting aggressive military actions and do not wish to engage in any conflict with you

While the transmission was being sent the fleet continued its surge forward with launched coastal patrol vessels and other smaller escort ships moving in with the supply and transports..While the larger capital ships held a position off the coast in deeper water...

On board the transports were military personell and equipment including several Nakil 1A1's and Diamondback IFV/transports..as well as construction equipment and engineers...the Imperial Kingdom had arrived

The first oil supertanker had docked with the underwater spike: now it was being filled with the black gold, worth almost $2 million dollars in total.

The Alfegos government had decided to repay the kindness of the Vontanas government: the oil tanker once filled was headed to their nearest sea port with the message:

Alfegos Government

We thankyou for the gift of allowing us to claim these prosperous lands. As a result, we see it only fitting that we give the first, the best of our spoils to you.

To the prosperity of our nations!

=====

The drilling was now extended into the newly claimed areas: there were now 12 wells with 8 now pumping oil to the storage complex under the sea, and now to a large complex in New Milkavich.

=====

The port was almost ready for the first 70 metre tanker: the sea wall had been modified, the harbour dredged to a depth of 16 metres and the pipes extended to the 2 docking ports on either side of the harbour area.

The village was now a small town, consisting of 31 living units for 120 workers, 5 storage buildings for supplies and building equipment, a large meeting and assembly hall as well as the crude oil depot.

That was the largest structure in the village, consisting of 10 massive oil tanks 8 metres across and 20 metres high, all filling with crude oil. With them were 2 operating buildings, a fire supression building and the routing building for the oil pipes that stretched along the shoreline by a flattened track, before going under the track into the sea, off to the underwater oil router.

=====

Further along the coast, 10 miles south from the military base was the town of New Polinas. It was now the largest centre save the military base, with 100 living units for 380 men who were working the mineral assesment onland: so far, they had discovered more of the oil pocket that stretched for 80 miles inland. Already there were two wells, that were in operation pumping oil up to New Milkavich.

There was more construction going on in the town: the north foundations, once a large factory complex, were now being used to build large hydroponic farms, that would make them self-sufficent.

We are the Vantanian Exploratory Flotilla, here to see who else has established colonies in Vantania. We would be especially interested in diplomatic relations with your nation, so that we may have access to Lake Moon. If you accept we will send an ambassador to your fleet. Thank you for your time.

Meanwhile, on Kneece, the arrival of a large supply of oil was quite unexpected. Thanking them, they had several escort ships escort the oil supply back to the government. Also, the civil servants had found something interesting. A coal deposit, near the center of the island. They quickly returned to the city, gathering up colonteers who had come to late to get prime real estate. They would establish a mining town tomorrow.

The sun set on Kneece, the sky turning a dark blue. The sea lapped gently against the shore, Vantanian sentries everywhere, insuring no sneak attacks. The moon, full and huge, illuminated the cloudless night. Magnificent. People crawled into their half done houses, sleeping deep for the night. They had earned it.

The Damiran ambassador knew the game well. If he wanted to gather any information at all he had to play a role, and as soon as he stepped on the island he started doing just that.

He was now a naive, eager to please young man and this is how he spent his first hours on the island. On their part the Vontanians were warm enough, he just hoped this will continue.

---

Back on the Assault Carrier, the commander readied himself for the meeting. News had just arrived about a second wave arriving on the Damiran claim on the Lost Islands and work already starting on the establishments. Much of it was however going to be kept a secret for now. Much like the ambassador, he too took a schooled mask over his persona.

"Greetings. Now, where is the Damirezan colony we're going to?"

"Oh, just a bit west of here, we established a small outpost out there."

Alfegos government would for now keep to the coast. They would expand inalnd perhaps tomorrow.

For now, the men in New Polinas and New Milkavich slpet, the oil pumping from under the sea and from the pumps on land filling the massive stores. The other villages were left quiet, the colonists that would make them permanent homes asleep in their boast moored in the harbour of New Milkavich.

=====

The scouting party were awake and were checking out the largest town inside the stormkeeper mountains: now named Darreltown after the president. They had found the town covered 20 square miles, nothing but ruins. Surrounding it were overgrown fields of wheat. A valuable commdity in Alfegos. Inside was what looked like an old warehouse. That was the first target.

Inside was a massive heap of tin ore. The discovery was important for the ogvernment

"We have found evidence of tin mining operations. Reccomaned strongly extending operations."

Once that was checked out, they came back into the open, into the dark streets. The other buildings appered to be ruins of tin processing buildings and of a railway. The cracked road led away to the mountains and to the ports further away from the Alfegos claim.

They heard a screeching noise coming towards them from the road behind. They wipped around, and drew their HK P90s. Coming towards them appeared to be some sort of wild pig. However, it was much larger than even a wild boar. It was the size of a small van, and was running at them with razor sharp tusks lowered. When it was 100 metres away, they opened fire.

The bullets ripped into its flesh, but even after emptying half their clips the pigs was still charging. They dived to the side as it thundered past, and continued firing at its rear. Shots impacted into its legs, and the pig collapsed, squealing. They ran round, before shooting directly into its red eyes.

The pig rolled over, dead, shaking the ground.

"Base, requesting immediate heli-evac. We have found a giant pig, that was almost impervious to our weapons. We think that the biologist will be interested.

=====

Back at the military base, in an empty storage dome, the biologist got to work on the creature.

"We have a very unusual structure for a pig: most of the body is muscle and bone, and the bones have changed in an odd way: the ribs have widened to form armour plates, and the skull is at least 2 inches think in places, except for the eye socket.

I have to conclude that this is not a native species, as it is not adapted to the environment. Rather, it is a mutated species. I pray to god no-one else sees these. Get all men to carry arms from now on."

=====

The lights at the military base finally went out, leaving only the spotlights on the perimeter. The sea in front of it was a constellation of red white and green lights, the signal lights of the fleet moored there.

Alfegan Colony

A beast stood on top of a hill, staring down on the lights of the Alfegan city. It was a monstrosity, the result of the chemicals on a wolf. A six foot long abomination, with a thick black hide, stronger and lighter then kevlar. It had huge teeth, capable of ripping a man apart, and menacing red eyes. Shaggy clumps of brown fur dotted it's body.

The Worg let out a howl, piercing. It was soon answered by more in the distance. Soon, the hill was teeming with Worgs. They were clever beasts, and had a basic sense of strategy. Right now, they knew that everyone in the city was wide alert. That was enough knowledge not to strike at them. They would wait, and strike when they sent out parties from the city. Then, perhaps an attack at night. For now, they retreated into the forests, and began hunting pig.

Damiran Fleet

The old man smiled, reaching into his memory, "You know, I used to leave in the Lost Isles before the Rebellion. There's a lot of underground freshwater reserves. Also, some good copper mining spots. And where there isn't copper, there's plenty of arable land for farming. Vantania is really resource rich, you know. You'll want to be careful getting into the Lost Isles though. There's a ring of mist around the isles, and it hides the rocks. Just a heads up."

Mandalorian Colony

Trees were felled left and right to make way for the oncoming building plans for The Mandalorian Empire. Sungri Scout's quickly were sent around the main perimeter, looking for anything of importance.

Cpt. Grevious took a look over the clear blue waters. To his awe, he saw a fleet in the distance. He didn't know if it was allied or enemy. Only time would tell.

The scouts had reported in the idstance more strange beasts. Yet for now, they would not be pursued. The oil was more important for now.

Further down the coast in New Fegr'vi, two drills were placed, and at once hit oil. This gushed into the air until the well was capped, and then was pumped to the storage centre 2 hours later when the prefabricated pipeline had been connected up.

=====

In New Polinas, the hydroponics farms were now working, the first crops of maize growing nicely. They would be ready in about 4 months time, accelarated by a high CO2 atmospehre, constant light and heat and a mixture of chemicals fed to their roots.

The buildign was also continuing for the colonists who had come to the colony with their own buildings: there were now an array of brightly coloured 2 story houses arranged along three streets, now named oil street, farm street and living street. Unimaginative, but it was sufficient for now.

Some people had set up shops selling alcohol and chocolate, and where exhauted within hours of opening up.

=====

In New Milkavich, hundreds of gallons of concrete had been poured into the sea, and now had finally created the basis for the supertanker port: stretching 500 metres, the wall was able to accomadate the needs of the Alfegos tankers onshore for now. Pipes carrying all sorts of chemicals, as well as oil and gas, snaked down the pier , ending in massive ports that would transfer the oil into the tankers.

=====

Underwater, the drills were all pumping out oil. There was no need to add more, as sufficient supply was underway. Yet surveys were being carried out to find if there were any other minerals under the sea.

=====

A scout party had been dispatched again. They were armed with slightly more powerful weapons: semi-automatic hunting rifles taking .600 Nitro Express rounds. One of these would hopefully stop an agressor, in the open.

The were travelling to the mountian chain tip in the south, to an abandoned mine workings. The mission was to find what was being mined.

They landed, and wlaked forwards, into the shaft cut in the mountainside. They had to, as there were no machines recognisable on the surface.

Inside, they climbed to the bottom, before fireing 2 flares into the tunnels. The whole of the tunnel was bathed in red light for hundreds of metres. They could now see clearly the metal in the walls: tin. This was exactly what they had wanted.

They came to the surface top find the helicopter gone. The radioed for it, but got no repsonse. They went over to the cliff edge, and saw the burning wreck at the bottom.

They quickly descended to assess the damage. Something had jumped into the rotor blades, its shredded body in pieces all over the ground. The helicopter had crashed here, and the pilots survived. They had crawled out nad then...

They could not find any trace of them, except a line of prints into the distance.

=====

"All soldiers and men are now to high alert! This means that you move in groups of more than 15, and you all carry automatic weapons. You do not venture into cover or woods without our permission."

=====

The government made official they had expanded the borders of their claim, to accomadate for the discovery of tin, a rare resource in Alfegos. The farmland was also desirable.

The first place to receive attention was the wrecked town of Darrelville. A group of 100 workers were moved there, and 25 living units were put up, as well as stores and the usual structures. They then started to replace the railway line for the two long, thick lines of metal that was recognisable to any Alfegosian citizen: a maglev link to New Milkavich. This would carry anything to and from them cheaply and quickly. It would be powered by the gas-fired electricity stations in New Milkavich, New Polinas and the Military base, who got all the gas they needed from the oil deposits. Already an overhead cable ran along the three existing settlements, and one was being built towards Darrelville.

Meanwhile, farmers from the mainland who had volunteered to come over for 1000 hectares of land each were marking out the boundarys of their land, and assesing its potential. Most were overgrown with weeds, though some still were devoid of anything but wheat. The most expensive grain in Alfegos.
Soon, they were planting for the crops that would feed the island, and soon Alfegos.

"Admiral..the vessels have been identified...they are from the lands of Vontanas...they wish to meet with us."

The communications officer's voice rang out across the bridge over the comsat...Vesevi who was quietly enjoying his coffee and some toast reached over beside him and flipped a switch over on one of the many control panels

"Very well inform them we accept their offer of an ambassador and welcome them as friends...it is nice to see an old friend in the area..even one we have fallen out of contact with."

"Aye sir." came the response..

Vesevi now turned and looked out towards the plot of land which now had been claimed...

Already an airfield a small military camp, and civilian camp had been constructed...a crude road network was now being established in order to quicken travel between the three places...A mobile port was also scheduled to be brought in while a permanent one was being constructed...

Along with the mobile port units would come an armada of new supplies and building equipment...as well as food and other necessary supplies..along with bringing in the new supplies the transports would be brining in military equipment..artillery...ammunition...AT and AA systems..in order to ensure the land remained in Imperial control

Surveyors and military patrols were out as well plotting out the land..and searching for resources...the river which extended all the way into the interior of the island was quite deep but slow moving and would prove excellent for shipping medium sized transports or large barges up and down stream..

OOC: Apologies for the while between posts, if it's all the same, I'm trying harder.

It came onto the land with a earth-shattering rumble, then another, and another, followed by the whirring of the landing craft.

Doors groaned as they opened, engines roaring as the trucks rolled out and up the beach.

Men, mostly engineers, were talking on radios, many carrying some unusual-looking surveying equipment and GPS systems. Up the beach, one could see a small radio beacon, being pulled into place by a front loader.

"Sir, we're online. Establishing comms networks, you're free to come ashore."

It was so far quiet enough, Barronia's lazing about had put her at a disadvantage to the other nations about the island, who were now well ahead with their buildings (although it wasn't known at the time).

Within hours, a temporary command base was set up, and patrols had been dispatched across the area Barronia had claimed. The temporary command base, a sprawling pre-built compound brought in on the beaching ships, was the base of operations and the new diplomatic meeting center - no doubt there would be others on this island, and this was intended to be something that was settled diplomatically. Although, as one of the bigger presences on the island, Barronia could quite easily hold her own.

Once the larger, more powerful transmitter/receiver station had been erected, visible from miles around, the position of the Barronian territory was broadcast for all to hear.

The Alfegos expansion into the colony was now at its upmost level: all the old towns were now colonised, and there were 30 wells now operating in the territory.

The mines would soon be in operation: once the maglev had reached the first three, the mining would begin in earnest.

In the town of Darrelville, the ore storage depots were now ready, and a medium sized plant had been constructed to process the tin ore that soon would be mined once the mining equipment was ready.

Further round were many more mines, some with other resources valuable to Alfegos, or just useful to have.

=====

The fields were a rustling green carpet of wheat, swaying in the wind for miles. Across one was a huge trail: massive wolf footprints were implanted into the soil. They were headed towards the same tin working where the helicopter had crashed, with death in their eyes. There they were in small groups, and wouldn't expect such an attack.

=====

The Alfegos command saw the beacons flare up on radio maps, and noted down the countries now on this land. As well as Vontanas, Maldorians and Pan-Arab Barronia, there were the allies Damirez.

=====

The massive tin mine was starting to wake, with a massive drill now installed, cutting out hundreds of tons of rock a minute. The ore was building up in huge heaps on the surface, where it was being transported to the depot in Darrelville.

The 300 people working there would not suspect an attack.

As the Confederacy of Shesharlie seeks further lands and opportunities, Chancellor Hirsch signs legislation for the colonization of its latest territorial addition- Firro. Mt. McLargeHuge, at the center of the territory overlooks the surrounding area.

"That mountain. It's gunna be our lifeline" remarked Captain Swanson, of the 5th Amphibious Division as he stared up at the prominent mountainside from his landing craft.

"Why is it our lifeline, sir?" said an eager Corporal.

"Ya see that son?" as the Captain lights a cigar "That mountain has all of this territory's mineral resources. It also has a high peak and it looks over a third of the island" as the veteran Captain points to the mountain with his smoldering cigar. "We can tame that mountain. We can tame that beast and make it obey our command"

As the 20 landing craft from the 5th Amphibious Division, laden with 600 Sheshan soldiers and engineers head towards the beaches, carefully guarded by Yekaterina Class Cruisers SN-Jackal and SN-Hound, the Sheshan Company of National Expansion (SCNE) begins to appear on the horizon in a fleet of only four large transport ships and two amphibious supply craft. Small one might think...

The establishment of Firro has begun.

The first they knew of the attack was a scream. At once, an alarm sounded, to stop work.

On the surface, it was quiet. A roll call showed that 4 people were missing. Completely.

Then the massive wolves lept onto them from above. Most were unable to escape, crushed as the wolves surrounded them.

A few managed to hit the alarm to the military base. WIthin 5 minutes, an attack helicopter would arrive. But that would be too long.

Over 180 men were still trapped outside, fighting futily with clubs and sticks.

80 men had fled back into the mine, wher the wolves would probably not come, being so large.

But 40 had barricaded themselves into the surface complex, and were firing off a couple of automatic weapons at the wolves.

They wolves fled, dragging with them 40 bodies.

=====

The attack helicopter arrived later with a couple of transports. These would take away the bodies, back to Alfegos.

From now on, all people were armed with weapons.

=====

The attack helicopter squadron were on a hunt. They would kill every wolf they could find. They had no use for them, and they were a dangerous pest.

To make sure they killed them, they were armed with missiles as well. They could never tell what the wolves could survive, as no specimen had been found. But it looked like they could survive bullets.

As men and supplies flood the beach, organization slowly takes from. Crates, pallets, boxes, containers, barrels, planks, pipes, and massive spools steadily transfer themselves from the large transporters to the island landing zone. The 5th Amphibious wastes no time in unpacking everything and building temporary and semi-temporary buildings.

The initial plans of development called for the necessities of temporary living space for the soldiers, a medical facility, a supplies dump, and preliminary forms of military infrastructure. As the ships from the SCNE finish unloading their cargo, 2 ships appear on the horizon, this time medium military cargo transporters carrying defensive installations that will need to be constructed.

While the sea-side developing is underway, a scouting party of 10 men head up to the mountain to gather information on possible construction sites. Just as the Captain said: that mountain is going to obey Shesharlie now.
