The Greater Tau Empire

The Greater Tau Empire is an organization, founded by the species known as the Tau, in order to bring peace, and the Greater Good to the galaxy. Unlike its name would imply, the Greater Tau Empire is not an organization ruled by a single master, or even councils of masters – rather, the Tau themselves, as well as their Kroot, Vespid, Nicassar, and Demiurg vassals are ruled by councils of Ethereals, however, other nations within the Greater Tau Empire, despite pledging to serve the Greater Good, are not reliant on the goodwill of the Ethereals, and maintain self-governance.

All nations who become part of the Greater Tau Empire retain their sovereignty, essentially, however, a few key terms must to be agreed to in order to gain this status.

All members who desire entry into the Greater Tau Empire must first be approved by the Greater Tau Empire's administrative Council, who will ratify that any who wish to enter can comply to the seven articles which define the Greater Tau Empire.

1) All members of the Greater Tau Empire may not war against each other. This includes trade embargoes, raiding other Tau Empire worlds, and full-fledged military action against other members of the Greater Tau Empire. Unsolicited action may result in a governance change for the offending member-state of the Greater Tau Empire, and, in extreme cases, the destruction of all officials and people with authority within a state, should it be required.

2) The Greater Tau Empire exists to serve the Greater Good of all within it. Any whom trangress against the Greater Good, from crimes such as murder to theft, may be punished, anywhere with the Tau Empire. Joining the Greater Tau Empire allows members to extradite criminals of their own nations from other member-states of the Empire, and any members who deny this right to others may be investigated.

3) As all member-states of the Greater Tau Empire serve the Greater Good, any war waged by any member of the Greater Tau Empire shall be supported by all members. Any invasion of any member-state by non-Empire nations will be repulsed by members of the Greater Tau Empire.

4) However, to prevent the abuse of this system, any offensive war against any other state will require a full accounting by the initiator of that war. Invasions waged unfairly will be stopped, and rogue commanders will be removed.

5) A Council, comprised of one delegate from each of the members of the Greater Tau Empire (more delegates may be appointed by order of the Council, in order to give more highly contributing member-states more say in the sway of things), and three delegates from the Tau Empire proper will be appointed, in order to make decisions regarding membership into the Empire, decisions regarding offensive wars, and decisions regarding the removal of nations from the Greater Tau Empire. An Ethereal will be appointed to mediate all debates in the Council.

6) Free-trade between all members is compulsory. Any tariffs will be removed before entry into the Greater Tau Empire, in order to serve the Greater Good.

7) Leaving the Greater Tau Empire requires a majority decision by the people of the member-state who is leaving, as it is those who serve the Greater Good who must decide what they shall do.

OOC: If you can justify the Eldar allying with Mon-keigh and agreeing to serve the Greater Good..

OOC: Eldar is neutral, They don't serve the greater good.. They serve the balance of the universe (Which in a respect IS the greater good..)

OOC: Yes, I am aware of that. However, this alliance is for those nations who are willing to pledge themselves to the ideal of the Greater Good. Although they are not required to serve the Ethereal Caste, as the Tau themselves do, if you're not willing to do that, the Greater Tau Empire is not the alliance for you.

The forums of the Tau Empire have been established by our very own Telros (Officially the Southern Tau Empire). Kindly note that any admission will rely on a majority vote by the Council, and, at present, Telros, myself, TFU, and Naggeroth are all members with seats on the Council. Since we all live in different timezones, it may take awhile to deliberate on your request.

A couple questions, Cazelia. In order to join this alliance, you MUST obey the charter, it is required of all member nations.

You will have to aid in defense, no matter what, you will have to have free trade, and you won't attack fellow members and whatnot.

These are key things you have to agree to, read the charter in the first post.

But if you still want to join, then welcome.

Can I apply not with my nation but with a faction? I have a group of engineered biological starfighters. They went rogue and set off on their own into the universe. I have been thinking about doing something with them again.
So here is what I'm thinking:

http://images.filecloud.com/161801/1comethyren.jpg
Faction: Aurora Brood, Aurorans
Characteristics: 10-20 feet long, very intelligent, understand most technology but have no use for it and live very primative lives
Background: Creation (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=483764)
Encounter of the Tau: (following from the end of their creation) The freed hyren who call themselves Aurorans soon grew to be too many in number for the small world they lived on to sustain. Time came to move or face widespread famine, so they set out into the stars as a vast swarm. It was as a swarm of locusts that the rest of the universe viewed them. In their search for a food supply that could support them, they were driven from world after world and sector after sector. Finally hungry and tired, they stumbled upon a great region of space dominated by Orks. The Orks were brutal and savage, but disorganized and stupid. So great were their numbers and persistant their stock that the Aurorans reconsidered their repulsion to consuming sentient life. Of course after the many battles they had waged to get where they were now, weak from hunger and surrounded by fields of rotting corpses it had happened before, but they never hunted sentients for that purpose. They settled on several fringe Ork worlds and burrowed large dens out of the mountains. They culled the hordes as they needed, yet the numbers of the Orks never seemed to run short. They destroyed much of the Ork infrastructure and kept them from becoming too successful at mining or building too many of their 'mekanikol' monstrosities. They settled into their new lives until the last expantion of the Tau Empire further into Ork space.

I'd love to RP some of this backstory and our meeting if you want me in. The Aurorans would be no real help as far as tech or trade goes, but they would be able to participate with the Fire caste and would easily be swayed to The Greater Good.

Tidan, as we discussed, that should be fine. I am okay with that faction in the GTE, we shall see what the others think.

Also, here are our forums for the alliance:

What is this Greater Good concept? I never really had much experience with Tau and would like some background information before applying for membership to this alliance....

What is this Greater Good concept? I never really had much experience with Tau and would like some background information before applying for membership to this alliance....

The Greater Good is the concept that.. well, it is precisely as it sounds. For the good of the people as a whole. While individualism is tolerated in other nations (individualism in the Tau Empire proper, while technically legal, is akin to pissing in a wedding cake at your daughter's wedding on your range of social gaffes), the duty of an individual to serve the Greater Good, as does the government, is paramount. Although no individual laws are enforced within the Greater Tau Empire, nations are required to ensure that their citizens remain fed, given access to justice, and defense.

Although it seems to be a somewhat socialistic concept (and indeed, the Tau themselves are very socialist - although this is more a racial and cultural trait), it allows capitalism to exist within the framework of the Greater Tau Empire. It merely places limits on the boundaries of personal greed, and creates new limits - ones of accountability. Although that may not be the best explanation, it's a fairly decent one.

well Cazelia I have no issue with you joining either as for Tidan if don't have an issue either so I vote in favor.

I'll vote in favour as well. As of now, Cazelia, you are part of the Greater Tau Empire. Register on the forums, and I'll upgrade you to the full member group. Tidan, as Telros and TFU have also voted for you, I'll cast my vote in favour, which gives us a majority on your joining as well.

If Telros hasn't already, I'll kick your membership up a notch on the forums.

The Empire of Juneaua would like to lobby for a place within this alliance as we feel we must bring back the former glory of our ancestors, Bekhaera, and restore the divine empire to its former glory, but we cannot achieve this without help from others

Shbump. Kindly note that the Greater Tau Empire is not an organization that requires a specific economic model. Provided that people aren't starving for the needs of a select few, economic disparities are welcome to exist within it.
