LNV Jamie Stewart
Typhoon-class ballistic submarine
International waters

The Typhoon-class submarine slowly crept through the waters of the Mediterranican Ocean, against the deserted coast of the no-man's-land south of the far-flung Nuevo Italian and Gatawan colonies. The People's Sovereign Navy frequently ran ballistic submarine patrols in all corners of the globe, as both a first and second strike force in the event of a thermonuclear war. Regardless of the severity of the Jamie Stewart's purpose, its mission was a simple and routine one. Until a small red light began flashing on the submarine's Combat Information Centre.

"Radio, conn. Incoming EAM on military channels," a lieutenant said through the ship-wide communications network. "Proper encryption techniques utilized; correct EAM codes for the day also in use."

"Conn, radio," the captain replied. "Forward it to my terminal."

Next to the leather command chair, a small laser jet printer spewed out a rather official-looking piece of paper. The captain read it carefully, and, after a few moments, picked up the microphone for the 1MC, or the public address circuit.

"All hands, action stations, action stations! The release of nuclear weapons has been authorized by the War Ministry. This is not a drill, I repeat, not a drill. Spin missiles one through six, and fifteen through twenty, and prepare for strategic missile launch against targets Charlie-Lambda-Zulu and Sierra-November-Delta."

***
IC:

Eleven ballistic missiles shot out from the waves, each soaring in the sky towards Calizorinstan, where they would detonate precisely three hundred and forty kilometres above San Diego and other major Calizorinstani cities. There would be minimal fatalities, as the blast would be too far up in the sky to do much at all in the way of physical damage. But once the missiles detonated, the EMP blast would destroy nearly all electronic devices within the country - rendering tanks, helicopters, naval vessels, power plants, even calculators inoperable.

But the best part was that it could never be tied to British Londinium.

"VALID THREAT! VALID THREAT! Damn it, confidence is HIGH people!" Red Army Air Force Chief General Chadwick Reynolds shouted as he observed the SLBM tracks arcing towards Calizorinstan. "Identity unknown, but confidence high; trajectory from Mediterranica to New Prussian Empire, Calizorinstan specifically, confirmed. Firing solutions for OBSAT defensive missiles from our armed satellites orbiting the target area being calculated now... Orders?" The still mostly fair-haired flag officer looked at General Secretary Lind, his eyes asking all that needed it.

"Clearance given, fire when ready." Charles Lind knew that although there were more enemies of Wagdog's in Mediterranica than just British Londinium, he also knew that most of them were in the EVIL bloc already; so it amounted to the same thing. First the damn Undead Falcons, and now this. This day just KEEPS getting better it seems. Fortunately, these guys apparently haven't reckoned with our continuing presence in the area due to Corporate Alliance-related hostilities not being formally concluded even if in a lull. Heh... He smiled wickedly at the suprise the Londinians, or whoever it was responsible for this, would get if they stormed the shores of Calizorinstan and found Wagdian troops ready to oppose them. Yes, indeed that would be a sight; perhaps even a better one than Undershi carriers dying under Wagdian guns once the range had sufficiently closed for a brief time before they'd retreated from their invasion of Kampfers.

"Understood Comrade." With that, General Reynolds went up to the green OBSAT operator's console under the targeting screen currently displaying the feeds from the satellites over Calizorinstan, themselves filtered through the nation's primary space center at Pinkybrain Atoll in the Crossfire Islands. Grasping the trigger, it being a necessity due to the Vetakan design of the OBSAT system requiring all weapons be fired by manual command, General Reynolds intoned, "Firing... NOW!" Squeezing the trigger, he sent the command to the satellites high above; hopefully in time.

IC
Space Above Calizorinstan
At that command, fully ten armed satellites from Wagdog's own OBSAT network, themselves a small fraction of those available, loosed with all sixty of their defensive missiles each. To some it might seem overkill, but there was simply no way to tell what the intent of those SLBMs was; hence, best to assume a full strike was inbound on Calizorinstan and act accordingly.

All six-hundred interceptor missiles arced across space, their gas-deflection and thrust-vectoring maneuvering systems working in tandem to steer them directly towards the unknown enemy's own offensive missiles. Though favorable in the odds, it was still arguably a longshot regarding how many they'd actually intercept in time. Only Fate, in the end, could determine that...

" Sir, we have confirmed launch of ballistic missiles. We are tracking eleven hostile missiles. Trajectory is somewhere in Calizorinstan. Could be Corporate Alliance."
The Admiral paled, quickly he ordered the fleet to begin the intercept the missiles, but quickly sent out a BROKEN QUIVER message. BROKEN QUIVER was the code for a possible nuclear attack, and would bring all assets up to DEF CON- ONE. All around TPF, silo doors would be opening, bombers would be lifting off, and submarines would be steaming out of their pens.
" Sir, we have linked up with other defense forces. Our orbitals, ABM's, and us will launch a total of thirty missiles for intercept. Brilliant Pebbles is on standby."
" Okay, Ensign. Fire."
There were several loud whooshes and large plums of fire and smoke as six missiles from the Mystic fired to intercept.

Praetorial Palace, Vetalia City

A sharp, unusual ring blared from the Praetor's room phone, jarring him from his sleep and causing him to race over to the desk. Normally, such calls were never routed directly to his office phone at night, but this one was different. He hadn't heard this ring in a while, not since soon after the destruction of North Calaveras. Whatever it was, it wasn't good.

Pausing briefly to take a breath and fully waken himself, he picked up the receiver and spoke.

"Melnikov here."
"Praetor, this is Aviation Marshal Ryzhkov from the SAC. We've got a confirmed launch off the coast of Calizorinstan-"
"What!? What're we looking at here?"
"Signs say 11 launched, appear to be used for knocking out electronics and the like. We're not sure if they're EMP or nukes or what yet. No word from Calizorinstan. Please advise."
"Don't do anything yet. Keep our systems on alert, but this isn't our problem right now. We need to watch and see what happens."
"Yes sir. A colonel general and his staff are on the way to the Palace with activation codes just in case."
"Of course. I've got some calls to make, but keep me informed."
"Yes, Praetor."

Outside, the ZIV-111 (http://digilander.libero.it/cuoccimix/zil111'57-'63-2.jpg) limousine of the Colonel General pulled up, and the sound of its personnel leaving the vehicle and climbing the steps in to the palace echoed loudly through the open atrium just outside his bedroom.

He hung up the phone and dialed the Vetalian Embassy in Kensington, ordering them to route his call through to the Consul.

"Consul Azzopardi, this is Ivan. We've got word of a strike on Calizorinstan and we're not sure how or what is going on over there...since it's in Mediterranican waters, and we know your country's known to patrol the area, we're just wondering what exactly is going on. Our signals aren't showing any major physical damage, but beyond that it's too hazy to even know how many missiles detonated.

We're not sure if this is CA, you, or someone else...I don't want to disclose too much right now but this is a damn good development."

Lord Sumguy watched the monitor with growing anger and unease. "Are you absolutely sure the source can't be traced?" he said into the microphone next to his ear to General Mcalpin, his cheif military advisor and a commander within the Hegemonic forces.

"Yes sir, the launch looks like it was made not too far from the Calizorinstani shore, probably from a submarine or aicraft. In any case, whatever fired those missles won't be there now."

"I see, it would seem as though someone is trying to intimidate the Calizorinstanis. Who do we know who has been trying for years to get Calizorinstan under their thumb, and performed a similar detonation over Sumguaia a few years ago?" *

"Well, of course the Londinians would do something like this, but we have no way of knowing for certain, they covered their tracks very well."

"Hmm, offer to send some troops and cleanup crews to San Diego, we can't do much more than that."

"Yes sir."

Lord Sumguy leaned back in his chair, thinking. When will those Londinians stop meddling with Hegemonic nations? Maybe i should have let Kraven destroy them just so that i wouldn't have this constant annoyance.

The Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire had been in alliance with Calizorinstan for many years. In exchange for the Empire providing Calizorinstan with significantly discounted oil, the Empire got to station its 5th Fleet in the nation's capital city of San Diego.

On that night, as the nuclear missiles exploded in the skies over the capital, the 5th Fleet, under the command of Fleet Admiral Deborah Ging, was not sitting in its harbor. Several months before, it had been called out on a mission to defend the Order of America should Urcea attack once again. But the conflict fizzled out and nothing came of it.

At this moment, the 5th Fleet, well over a thousand ships strong, was sailing back to its base in San Diego. It was a quiet night and all patrols were reporting back all clear.

And then, all of a sudden...

"ADMIRAL!" shouted the communications officer. "We're getting a signal on an emergency channel!" His jaw dropped. "It's...it's coming from the base in San Diego!"

Fleet Admiral Ging leapt up. "WHAT?!" she shouted in disbelief. "Put it on! Put in on right now!"

The officer did what he was told. The sounds of the emergency communication filled the now quiet CIC.

"San Diego is...under attack, repe..." the line turned to static...

Ging raced over and grabbed the reciever.

"Base, this is Fleet Admiral Ging! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON OVER THERE!"

There was a few seconds of silence. Then came a reply. "Electronics failin...fires are breaking out all over the base...fires in the cit..." and then line kicked out again.

The Fleet Admiral desperately tried to hail them again. "Base! Come back! COME BACK!" she shouted.

The communications officer shook his head. "It's no use sir! We've lost the signal!"

The Fleet Admiral threw the reciever down in disgust. "Damnit!" she cursed.

Then she realized that the whole CIC was looking at her, waiting for her next move.

"Don't just stand there!" she shouted. "Contact the fleet! All ships full ahead to San Diego! Inform all crews to prepare to take part in relief efforts!"

With a chorus of "Aye Sirs," the crew of the flagship Stratovarius got to work.

People's Air Force Base Okavango
Montagnais Mountains, Oickoidia
0012 hours

PAF Okavango was burrowed within the frigid, snow-swathed peaks of the Montagnais Mountains, the natural border separating the Londinian possession from Greston, who had recently claimed responsibility for the nuclear strike over Calizorinstan.

"Of course I harbour no ill feelings towards the people of Greston," Consul Azzopardi had said to War Minister Crompton. "But when they're foolish enough to take responsibility for this attack, why not exploit the situation?"

And, to that end, the Ministry of War had taken five B-52 bombers, refitted them, and set about stripping them of all affiliation to the Londinian Air Force. Technical components specifically traceable to British Londinium were stripped and replaced with a generic equivalent; livery was stripped away, replaced with the roundels and insignia of the Greston Air Force. The interior of the five aircraft had been redesigned to eliminate all Volscian labels or computer readouts, and replaced with the languages of Greston. IFF transponders had been installed to duplicate the IFF frequencies used by the Greston Air Force. Extra fuel tanks had been placed in the craft to ensure that it could get within firing range. For all intents and purposes, these five bombers were indistinguishable from a bona fide Greston aircraft.

In the dead of night, the five aircraft departed from the airbase, only three kilometres away from the Greston border. They briefly flew over a small parcel of Grestonian land, then headed over the seas towards Calizorinstan, at whom they would fire their AGM-86 nuclear missiles at San Diego. Yet another perfect crime.

Official Grestonian Response

We take full responibility for the luanching of the ballistic missiles, this is an act of warning towards the nation of Lord Sumguy and it's alliance.

IC: Lord Sumguy was holding a video conference with his joint cheifs of staff when the Grestonian decleration was broadcast. He looked at the message and laughed. "Well, Greston's transition from enthusiastic ally to foolishly and mindlessly aggresive enemy didn't take very long. Nonetheless, I don't think they have the backbone to have pulled off that strike. Something is fishy about this, and i think Greston may be claiming responsibillity for something they didn't do as a mere act of bravado. We must take their word for it for now though. I will inform Greston that any further such actions will be considered a decleration of war against Calizorinstan and the Hegemony."

The gathered generals agreed that this would be the best course of action and a message was sent:

To: Grestonian Foreign Ministry
From: Lord Sumguy, Hegemon

I don't know why you think that you have the right to detonate warheads in Calizorinstani airspace, but any further attacks will be considered a declaration of war against the Hegemony. End your senseless agression before you seal your own destruction. I hold no ill will against your nation, and wish to know what your grievance is with me, that our differences may be settled without needless bloodshed.

The 5th Fleet was speeding back to San Diego at a steady 33-35 knots, but Fleet Admiral Deborah Ging knew that it would be the better part of a day before they saw land. And so, in order to get a better sense of what was going on in the city, Ging ordered a squadron of EB-180 Stargazers to take off and get over San Diego as soon as possible.

The twelve Stargazers took off into the skies and climbed to an altitude of 100,000 feet and shot towards the west coast at Mach 2. They would be arriving over the area in approximately 20 minutes, but then, something on the LADAR caught their attention. Five blips. They were flying towards San Diego. And they were big.

The Squadron Leader opened up a secure line with the 5th Fleet.

"Stratovarius, this is Squadron Leader. We got five unknown aircraft heading towards San Diego."

Upon hearing this, Fleet Admiral Ging became immediately suspicious. "Are they flying close together?"

"Yes sir." came the SL's reply. "And Sir? These aircraft very large. They must have a wingspan of at least 180 feet."

Deborah's eyes went wide. 180 feet? Why would aircraft of that size fly together? Unless...

"Squadron Leader! Move to intercept! Determine the nature of these aircraft and immediately move to eliminate any and all threats!"

"Yes sir! Changing course now!"

With that, the twelve EB-180 Stargazers turned iand shot towards the approaching aircraft. If the unknown aircraft had RADAR, they still wouldn't see them coming. Not only were they 100,000 feet in the sky, but they were also equipped with radar-deflecting materials as well as a "Scatter Plot" radar detection avoidance system, which took incoming RADAR signals and deflected them 180 degrees from their point of origin.

The Stargazers shot towards the aircraft at Mach 3. They would be in range within ten minutes.

Through the cockpit windows of the lead B-52, Squadron Leader Peterson could see the sun slowly peeking out from the horizon, its rays permeating the glass and illuminating the aircraft's interior with a brilliant light. The last light the crew of the bombers might ever see.

"Approaching firing range now, sir," one lieutenant said hesitantly. "Do we launch our payload?"

"Yes, I'm afraid that we must," Peterson replied with a sigh. He picked up a small, handheld radio, and signaled to the skeleton crews manning the other four bombers.

"Squadron Leader to Yakitori II Task Force: launch on my mark at primary target. Three...two...one...mark!"

Simultaneously, each bomber launched a single nuclear-armed AGM-86 cruise missile at San Diego, and continued on, heading straight for the second largest Calizorinstani city.

Having spent nearly three months at sea, the DSS Prowler was scheduled to begin its return trip to port in just a few days. Patrolling Dartia's primary trade route to Gataway had proven to be a boring and uneventful assignment... until now.

On the bridge of the Allegro Class Attack Sub, the mood was relaxed. As the men went about their duties, they couldn't resist the urge to discuss their shore leave plans. However, that quickly changed when the ship’s communications station reported an incoming IAR alert.

The DSS Prowler immediately changed its course, and was soon pushing 35 knots towards the source of the ballistic missile attack on Calizornistan. As it pushed through the water, the vessel rose to its launch depth, and let loose a cruise missile carrying an AN/SSQ-110B air deployed active sonobuoy.

If all went according to plan, the sonobuoy would be dropped roughly 30 miles from where the ICBM's had been launched, and would provide the means to track Calizornistan’s anonymous attacker.

The EB-180 Stargazers came into range of the unknown aircraft. Now that they were closer the LADAR revealed them to be...

"B-52's?" repeated the Squadron Leader. "What on Earth is going on here? Who do they belon-"

But all of a sudden, he was interrupted by his co-pilot. "Holy shit! They're firing at the city!!"

Sure enough, clear as day, each B-52 launched a single cruise missile towards San Diego.

Without consulting the Fleet Admiral, the Squadron Leader made a desperation move.

"Jets 2-6 move to intercept missiles immediately! Activate all missile scramblers and dive!"

With that order, five EB-180 Stargazers, took their vehicles, previously moving at Mach 3 into a dive, building up greater and greater speed as they shot towards the ground. Finally...

"Missiles coming into range!" shouted Jet 5.

"Get in on top of them!" yelled the SL. "Give them the full effect of the scramblers!"

The EB-180 Stargazer was constucted with ten missile scramblers, five on top, five on the bottom. They were designed to send a signal into a missile's guidence system, causing it to veer out of control.

There were five missiles headed towards the city. Five Stargazers were coming down on each of them. The bottom of each Stargazer had five missile scramblers. And now they were in range.

The signals from the scramblers attacked the missile's guidence system. One by one, the missiles fell out the sky and into the sea.

It was clear to the Squadron Leader that these B-52s meant harm against their ally, Calizorinstan.

As the Stargazers passed over the B-52s, targeting computers were activated.

He contacted the remaining six jets that were with him. This is Squadron Leader! Fire at will! Repeat, fire at will!"

On each Stargazer, the twin rotating launchers opened up. Each of the seven EB-180s fired four AIM-120 AMRAAMs at the B-52s.

The twenty-eight missiles streaked downward at Mach 4 towards the five enemy bombers.

We comply, but we disagree to all of the crap that you have shoved in that piece of paper. We have never had respect for you, so we will not pay the UFAN any money, and for Calizorinstan we will not pay him either because he had made the stupid chioce of joining the Hegemony. If he pulls out of the Hegemony we will pay twice as much and even help rebuild anything that was destroyed. Until then he will be labeled an enemy, and this event will repeat itself on other Hegemony members.

Oh and thank you for the kindling you sent us, that report burns very well in a fire place.

"Mister President-Kommissariat!"

The darkened room of the President-Kommissariat's chambers was roused into light as a soldier stepped into the room and quickly snapped on the lights. Max Coltrane stirred and rubbed his eyes, muttering under his breath at the sudden intrusion. He blinked a few times and looked across at the entourage by the door, comprising two soldiers, the Kommissariat for Defence Donald Watson and Charlie Peters, the head of the PK's security team. "What the hell?" Coltrane muttered, glancing at the clock. 3am.

Watson cleared his throat. "Mister President-Kommissariat, there's been a nuclear attack on Calizorinstan."

Coltrane's eyes snapped open, and he quickly got out of bed and pulled on a shirt. "How long ago?"

"Not long," Watson replied. "We just got the report of mushroom clouds above San Diego, apparently some group is claiming responsibility but we have no confirmation at this time."

Max was by this point quickly getting dressed as Charlie Peters spoke. "Sir, we have no indication yet as to whether this is simply an attack on Calizorinstan or on the wider Soviet Commonwealth. Protocol in this case requires us to move you to the shelter underneath the building."

Coltrane nodded, and stood as he zipped his fly. "I know," he said, before turning to Watson. "Have the Cabinet called and meet me in the bunker's conference room. If we confirm who did this, the Commonwealth will need us to mobilise troops."

Watson nodded, before turning to leave. Max sighed as he walked towards the door. "This is gonna be one of those days," he muttered as the door swung closed behind him.

General John Arnold studied a map of Calizorinstan and he pushed some B-52 models with his stick towards San Diego, and frowned as he drew their AGM-56 Nuclear Missiles striking the city, and he moved the F/A-22's and the SU-27, and F/A-44's based in the north of Calizorinstan and he frowned. It had been by divine providence that his father was in the room behind him, visiting with Mary and Lord Sumguy. He rubbed his chin as he paced and he prayed to God that the NPE, UFAN and other nations friendly to Calizorinstan would pull through and save his nation.

"I sure hope that Wilhemsborough noticed the nuclear attack on San Diego, the Emperor will sure want to uphold his end of the bargin, now, I would suppose that WagDog's units were destroyed, along with most of my own units. I wonder if TME stationed his units there..." He thought, but was interrupted by a servant who said "General Arnold, Calizorinstanian Civilians have been evac'ed to SaintB, and Lord Sumguy to avoid losing our whole nation.." General Arnold nodded curtly and dismissed the servant, and was happy that his family had made it out of there alive. They had taken a couple of weapons with them on a C-5 Airlifter, enough for a milita at least.

They were the 850 FN FAL guns that had been formerly owned by the Red Stars, and the United Police State before the Red Stars. General Arnold sat down next to his father, and poured a cup of tea and said jokingly "I sure hope BL hit some of our prisons with the AGM-56's, that might save execution expense.." He frowned then and said "I really hoped the criminals in there repented before they died.." President Arnold patted his son on the back, and rummaged in his suitcase and pulled out a Springfield 1870 Musket and said "That is what your great-great-great Granfather carried during the Calizorinstanian Civil War, I have black powder, you may use this gun when you cannot find ammo for your M-4 rifle.." John nodded understandingly.

Another servant walked in and said "President Arnold, I think you should call the Emperor of Wilhelmsborough.." President nodded and said "I shall call him soon James, very soon.."

General John Arnold sighed to himself as he sat down at a computer and clicked on "Live Action Feed of the conflict in Calizorinstan", and it displayed a map, and he saw several live fighters popping up on the map from the north, and from SaintB. He saw armed units clustered in a mountainous area in the far north of Calizorinstan, that had snow he noticed.

He rubbed his chin as a sign flashed over the mountan "Hornet's Nest, a bunker being dug into the ground for shelter.." He smiled, Tom Arnold who had taken over control of the ground forces was smart, very clever to dig bunkers in the far north, and he noticed civilan units popping into the already built bunkers.

He walked up and said to President Jack Arnold "Father, San Diego, and Miramar are destroyed pretty much, the civilians have evac'ed to SaintB, Lord Sumguy, and the far, far north, "Articastan" we call it, it technically is part of Calizorinstan, but we granted it autonomus state status 4 years back. I wonder how the inhabitants will take to the mass imigration north.."

President Arnold smiled weakly and said "Tom is making wise descisions I see, very good for him, "Articastan" will in all cases help us for the meanwhile anyway.." John looked startled and said "What do you mean, "meanwhile?" President Arnold sighed and said "They, and the Khilistanians have been somewhat allied in mission to wipe us out for a while, I believe they will try something as the proverbial "800 pound" gorilla is down for a while, I mean when we are down, they might attempt to slaughter the civilans, but I knew you forsaw that, so you took precaution by binding them to an oath. You also stationed several troops up there, and stationed the SIK-7 and SEPECAT Jaguar units up there to keep an eye on them.."

John grinned and said "At least we have somewhat of a country in the northern parts still.."

Press Conference Room
Capital Building
Augustgrad, Labhekistan

The press confrence room was a scene of chaos. Hundreds of reporters, from the largest of broadacsting networks to freelance reporters were finding their seats and setting up their equipment. At the far end of the room was a large stage, and upon it was a single podium of solid mahogany. The podium was sent against a blue curtain, and mounted upon it was the seal of Labhekistan. The conference room, while it was the largest in the capital, appeared small when filled with the droves of reporters.

At 8:35 PM local time, Prime Minister Alexi Strumov peered out through the folds of the dark blue curtain. He took a quick gulp of ice-cold water, pulling himself together as best he could. He was no stranger to large crowds, but the grevity of his announcement made him nervous. He glanced at his watch a second time, put down his glass of water, and stepped out onto the stage.

Immeditately, there was the deafening thunder of voices, but Strumov raised his hand to silence them.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the press. This announcement is of the utmost importance to the citizens of this nation, and I must have your undivided attention for the next few minutes."

"As you may have heard, at some point last night there was a nuclear attack on the nation of Calizorinstan. The attack was carried out using nuclear weapons at a high altitude. The resulting attack did little physical damage, but the majority of Calizorinstan's electronics were disabled or destroyed in the attack. The attack was launched from a ballistic missile submarine, which has since disappeared."

"As of this morning, the nation of Greston has claimed responsibility for the attack, which has left Calizorinstan defenseless. Calizorinstan is our ally through the United Federation of Allied Nations, and as such, we are obliged to defend them. The nation of Vetaka, which at this time is speaking for UFAN, has declared an ultimatum to the nation of Greston. Should this ultimatum not be carried out, a state of war will exist between Labhekistan and Greston. It is my hope that this will not be the case, but at this time it looks as if war will be unavoidable."

"As of this time, the First and Second High Seas Fleets are being deployed to the region of Calizorinstan. The Third, Fourth, and Fifth fleets are in the process of mobilization. We shall continue to strive for peace, even in this dark hour. Our hearts go out to our ally, Calizorinstan. That is all."

The weapons launched were fired from Mediterranican waters, or at least that is what the guys in SatTrack HQ say" said the man, getting closer to the map "The Grestonians want Calizorinstan to pull from the Hegemony, but that could lead to other attacks by other nations" replied High General Keller, lighting his cigar "If the Grestonians decide to land forces, we will need to be ready. Alert all of our air squadrons to keep alert until this dies down" The men then saluted each other, and left the room

President Justin Gannon watched the press conference live on PBG News. "Well, looks like Greston has a ton of shit on it's plate. Why not add to it a bit, those bastards deserve it." With that, he picked up the red phone on his solid walnut desk and spoke into it. "I want High Command in the War Room ASAP. We're doing something to help out, no matter how small," he said to the secretary on the other end. "Yes Mr. President," came the reply.

A few minutes later the High Command was assembled in a large room in the bunkers of the Presidential Mansion. A computer-projected map on the world was in the center of the large table in the room. On one end, behind the President, was the Prestonian Flag. On the other was a poster of soldiers of each branch standing together with the words "LEAVE NO MAN BEHIND" written on the bottom. As the military and civilian staff that made up High Command sat down after the Pledge of Loyalty, President Gannon began. "Alright guys, Greston nuked Calizorinstan. That much you guys saw on the news. Now the Labhekis are mobilizing to protect Cali. How much can we spare to help out?" Immediately Adm. Kawaguchi spoke up. "Second Fleet is ready to go sir, I can have them out of here by tomorrow morning if you want." "Excellent, anything else we can provide?," Gannon said in a businesslike tone. Fdm. Oliver was next in line. "With the Calizorinstanis' permission, we can commit an army group to shore defenses in case Greston tries to land anybody." Gannon pondered this for awhile before he spoke. As the DSS Prowler's cruise missile reached its target area, it ejected its sonobuoy payload. A parachute quickly opened, and a minute later there was a soft splash as it gently hit the water.

The sonobuoy sank slowly into the water before eventually settling at its operational depth. Ready to begin its work, the collected passive sonar readings for several minutes before letting loose with a series of "pings".

These sonar pings would be heard by sonar operators for hundreds of miles in every direction, and were sure to give the sonobuoy's presence away.

With sonar readings beginning to come in, the AN/SSQ-110B activated its UHF transmitter, and began sharing its findings.

OOC: sorry about any typos, im using a cell phone right now

Hah! Your military is already stretched too thin, not only you have most of your troops outside your homeland, trying to invade The Northern Baltic, but you are facing invasion yourself, and your allies in Qadesh have abandoned you.

You are in no position to make threats, if the Grestonians continue with that arrogant attitude of theirs, then they shall face the consequences.

The nation of Qadesh is certainly not one of our allies, though we stand by them in their decision to ditch.

And as far as your army goes, it's either trapped in your homeland or in-campaign in far-away lands, so I'd be careful with what I say if I were you, pointless threats lead to nowhere but destruction.

At long last, the 5th Fleet pulled into San Diego Bay. Aboard the flagship Stratovarius, Fleet Admiral Deborah Ging stepped out to survey the damage inflicted upon the city. There wasn't too much physical damage, but there were plenty of small fires still burning from the electrical fires brought on by the EMP pulse.

The Fleet Admiral shook her head in anger. Who would do this? News reports had stated that Greston had claimed responsibility, but reports had also said that the EMP strike originated from somewhere in the Mediterranican Ocean. What the hell was Greston doing there in the first place? To throw off the world's suspicions? But if they admitted to doing it, then why waste time on secrecy?

She turned and reentered the CIC. These were important things to consider, but for now she had to focus on the immediate crisis at hand: providing relief efforts for San Diego. To that end, 15,000 Marines were standing by to disembark.

But first, Fleet Admiral Ging had to determine whether or not there was any authority still left in the city...

"And what do we have in our North American Colonies by way of military resources."

"Not much my lord, a single infantry battallion, an armored regiment, and the aircraft at Nelson Airbase. I beleive we have a single escort carrier and two dreadnaught destroyers for naval coverage that havn't been ordered to return home."

Benard groaned, "What about the refugees from Cali?"

"They are set up in temporary camps, local people have been donating everything from the essentials like blankets and toothpaste and a few have even donated old cell phones."

"Cell phones?" The Saint couldn't help but grin at that.

"Yes sir..." the Lt. General cracked a smirk and almost chuckled, "Cell phones, about 500 of them. I have no idea what refugees are going to use an old cellular phone for unless they have service still..."

"Thank you for the situation report Grant, have my assistant come in and I will see about a visit to Calizorinstan." given the current political climate in Europe however the whole place might go up in smoke if he left... and the general public thought he should marry and produce an hier! With all the work he did there was no time for it.

We have long been freinds with one another despite the political climate changes and though niether of us are officially members of an alliance together we have always shared the bond of brotherhood that comes from being residents of this great earth. Though we currently have limited resources in the North American Continent I would like to let it be known that they are all at your disposal should they be needed. We have extra stocks of weapons, armor, and ammunition should you require and can possibly, given time, spare a few more weapons of war if so needed. I only regret that the current situation prevents me from offering more.

SaintB Integrated will also help get your armed forces back on thier feet as soon as possible if you need, we can produce your standard armaments for thier production cost in some of our factories. We can ship to you now from Oregon 20,000 Ares III rifles and about 2 million rounds of 5.56 NATO ammunition if you need within 12 hours. If you can provide us with a list of needed equipment we can begin to round that up for you as well. Thanks to the DSS Prowler's air deployed sonobuoy, the Dartian government managed to classify the offending vessel as a Typhoon Class, and was tracking its movements.

With countless countries around the world using Typhoon Class Submarines, knowing the model of the submarine was of little help when it came to confirming Greston to be Calizonistan's assailant. However, identifying the vessel was only a secondary concern. The government's wanted to destroy it before it had the opportunity to unleash whatever remained of its nuclear payload.

As the DSS Prowler continued to close on its quarry, other Dartian military assets finally mobilized to join the pursuit. It had taken some time, but refueling arrangements had finally been made for two P-8 Poseidon Maritime Patrol Crafts, which were just now leaving Dartia's Maltese Naval Facility.

Should they manage to destroy the offending submarine, the government wanted to salvage it as quickly as possible. Leary of the possibility that another nation might attempt to claim salvage rights, Dartia's nearest capable fleet was being redirected to the area. It wouldn't arrive for several days, but hopefully that would be enough.

The LNS Leninsk, flagship of the First High Seas Fleet, slowly began to move from it's massive dock. The Chancellor-class supercarrier, procured from the Royal Shipyards of Isselmere-Nieland only two years before, was a sight to behold. Its dark grey superstructure and imposing lines were nearly invisible in the night sky, but tonight, the intention was stealth, not grandeur. On its flight deck, the ground crew were busy guiding aircraft to their proper locations.

On the bridge, Fleet Admiral Mikhail Levanevsky surveyed the harbour, looking past Liberty Bridge to the horizon. There was little to see, save for the dark silhouettes of the fleets many cruisers, destroyers, and frigates.

"Take us out," said the Admiral, "maintain ten knots unit we have reached rendezvous point alpha." He paused to review the message from Central Prestonia. It had arrived to the ship via the Prime Minister's secure channel, so he assumed it was important.

After reading the message, he began to draft a reply.

The 5th Fleet may have returned to their base, but there was still a great deal of work that was going on. Air patrols, were going smoothly, as was the delivery of aid to the residents of San Diego.

But in the mind of Fleet Admiral Deborah Ging, now that they had returned to the city, they had to defend both it and themselves, whether that be in the sky or the sea.

And so, she ordered 200 of the fleet's 250 Seawolf-class attack submarines to sail out of San Diego Bay and create two defensive lines. One would be three miles from the coast, and the second would be five miles out. They would be joined by 400 minisubs, and 50 S-3 Vikings.

Meanwhile, back on the Stratovarius, the Fleet Admiral recieved a response from her superior, Admiral of the Navy Vittorio Augustine. He had convened in a meeting with Emperor William and the rest of the Joint Chiefs, and they had unanimously agreed that if the nation of Greston had anything to do with these attacks, then the Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire would be going war.

Adm. Ichiro Tanaka, commander of Second Fleet, stood on the bridge and surveyed his fleet. Flanked by cruisers and destroyers, it was nearly impossible to see the horizon. Aircraft, FA-15Es, were taking off and landing constantly. The elaborate ballet had always fascinated Tanaka. He had grown up near what was now Rigley AFB and applied to join the air force when he turned 17, but had been rejected as a fighter pilot because he was too short. Instead, he joined the Navy and went to officer school. Now an admiral in his early 50s but looking like a man of no more than 35, he pondered his assignment. The Grestonians had never been good friends with Calizorinstan, but this was unlike them. His gut told him that Greston was not behind this, but as it was orders were orders. Suddenly, a voice interrupted his thoughts. "Tanaka-san, it's time to brief the men," a young officer said. "Thank you, Lieutenant Ulyanov," came the reply. With that, the microphone was switched on, and Tanaka began briefing the 150,000 soldiers that accompanied his fleet.

Soldiers of the Prestonian Republic, you are on a vital mission. The Grestonian cowards have attacked our ally Calizorinstan. In response UFAN has demanded that Greston issue an apology and repay Calizorinstan. This is not likely to happen however. As a result, you are here to prevent an invasion should Greston decide to take the next step towards war. The Cali military is broken and crippled due to the EMP from the nuclear strike. You are the first line of denfense. I have all confidence that you will fight like the warriors you are. Do not disappoint our allies, men.

The flight line had the 250 aircraft that had not been taken out by the EMP's, they consisted of SU-27, SU-33, and MIG 29 Fulcrums, because the boneyard had not been hit, so it contained a wealth of aircraft, and maintainers were feverishly working to bring more aircraft to life.

General Arnold hopped into a MIG-29 that was to lead a flight called "Buick Flight", and the 5 Fulcrums taxied to the runway and took off, and after 20 minutes, they came within sight of San Diego Harbor.

He called to all the friendly forces in the air saying "All Friendlys, this is Buick Flight, we are friendly Calizorinstanian Pilots coming to join in, we have 100 other friendlys following.."

OOC: Apologies for the shorty post, but for now there's not unduly much for me to do aside from announcing my forces' presence in full and such. Cal, since I don't have the posting time yet for anything more, this is just me RPing out our reestablishing contact instead OK? Thanks.
Norton AB; Greater San Diego Area, Calizorinstan
Field Marshal Ernesto Galver of the Wagdian Sixth Army Group was not having a good day by any stretch of the imagination. No, not hardly close even.

First, some strutting nation unknown decided to EMP strike Calizorinstan, conveniently frying the electronics of all his tanks and aircraft in the area. Strike one. Then, to make matters worse, word from what few radios had been repaired and the majority of couriers using their DOZOR-B jeeps in fully-manual mode indicated that the same party had then tried to nuke San Diego in a strike that Wilhelm-Hatarian forces had only nearly intercepted. Strike two. To Galver's thinking, it was high time somebody struck out without more people dying or more insane crap occurring; though why exactly did that sound least likely of all to happen?

Turning to his GHQ's G-5 political officer, himself more used for civil-affairs and communications work anyway than the original connotations of the position thanks to Wagdian relative professionalism compared to other 'Red' armies, Marshal Galver barked in his barrio-accented and aged English. "Make yourself useful, Brigadier General; get your ass over to the Calizorinstani HQ and just see if we can get ourselves some Cardinal, Priest, Zeus and so on parts what haven't been deep-fried OK? Even Murphy knows they should have some still around, now GET!"

"Ah! Y-yes sir!" Normally, Marshal Galver was actually a far more reasonable officer than this. But right now, he was commanding a force that had been reduced to operating in a fashion suited to th ninteen-fifties at best, rather than the twenty-first century. And he intended to rectify that before anyone showed up thinking that some invasion here was just going to be a walk in the San Diego Zoo. Oh yes, he intended to; already all of the jeeps and most of the infantry vehicles and so were back up, plus the simpler artillery pieces. Only the tanks proper and similarly advanced equipment were still disabled, and repairs were frantically proceeding on them; though it would take time, since it was less 'repair' than complete replacement of utterly burned-out circuitry for some critical components that somehow hadn't been shielded.

And naturally, that was time which had to be made it seemed. The enemy certainly wasn't going to give it to the 360,000 strong Wagdian force in this small UFAN and NPE member state, that was for sure...

Fleet Admiral Ging walked through the wreckage of the Wilhelmsborough naval base. It was a pretty grisly sight. Buildings were still smouldering from the electrical fires. There were rows of tanks and Humvees, that had been rendered useless by the strike. Radar was out, as was the long range radio.

Fortunately, despite the massive loss of equipment, the base was fortunate to only lose a total of 5 personel, with 17 more injured. New equipment was being brought in from 5th Fleet to replace that which was broken. At that moment, the Fleet Admiral entered the communications room, where technicians were attempting to re-establish contact with the homeland.

"Homeland, this San Diego Naval Base." said a clearly frustrated radio operator. "Homeland, do you copy?" There was no response, and the operator threw down his reciever in frustration. "Damnit!"

Fleet Admiral Ging chuckled. "I know exactly how you feel," she said.

The operator shook his head. "Three hours of work, sir. Three hours and we still can't make the connection!"

The Fleet Admiral turned to leave. "Well keep working on it. You can't rely on my fleet to deliver information. If fact we might have to ship out again."

The operator turned. "Why would you have to leave so soon, sir?" he asked.

Ging sighed. "It's war, Sergeant. We might be going to war."

112 Kilometers from Augustgrad Naval Headquarters

As morning slowly came, the sun could scarcley be seen through the dark clouds that hovered low over the sea. In the distance, one could see rain begin to fall.

"Admiral," said Lieutenant Greyson, "I'm getting severe weather warnings from the Fleet Meteorology Senter. They're expecting high winds and heavy rain for the next seventy-two hours."

Admiral Levanevsky was watching the clouds from the observation deck outside of the bridge. Distracted from his thougts, he turned to look at the young Lieutenant. "The foul weather will impede our progress, although we'll arrive with plenty of time to spare. Issue the alert across the fleet channel. Combat air patrols will be limited until we can get through this weather. If you will excuse me."

"Yes sir," replied the Lieutenant.

The Admiral strode back into the bridge and began to draft a reply to Admiral Tanaka.

General Arnold flew around the northern coast in his MIG-29, seeing nothing unusual, he flew up to a Calizorinstanian Air Force KC-135R to refuel, he reflected on the day's events, he had been fortunate, that the enemy had not done a full scale nuclear attack, that enemy could've done. But the enemy made a mistake of letting them live to fight another day, he saw form up on his wing 2 JAS-39's from the 144th Fighter Wing based in North Island NAS. He gave them a thumbs up and the JAS-39 nearest him's pilot spoke "Buick Lead, this is Talon Lead, We have joined up with you to help patrol the skies over.." General Arnold replied "Roger Talon Lead, have you found any enemy targets over?"

Talon Lead replied "Negative sir, but the Khilistanians opened fire on us today.." General Arnold rolled his eyes and groaned, "Are we still fighting them Talon Lead?" Talon Lead responded "Negative sir, they ceased firing 20 minutes ago..." General Arnold sighed and as he disconnected from the boom said calmly "Good day Talon Lead.." He let his other members of the flight refuel, then they split off to the left, and headed inland..

He noticed it was 6:30 at night suddenly, and he said "I did not mean to keep us up so late Buick Flight.." The flight members all chuckled on the radio and Buick Two said "Buick Lead, sir, you finally noticed it was growing late didn't you?" General Arnold chuckled appreciatively and said "Buick Two, I believe you are correct, I am getting senile.." He scanned the terrain, it was getting to be tundra land, they had left the desert area long ago.

He said crisply "Buick Flight, we are going to stay the night at Vancouver Airport, in Anarticastan, the far north region.." They all replied "Roger, any place to stay sounds good.." He flew towards Vancouver Airport, feeling relived that they hadn't found enemy contact yet. He noticed some major thunderstorms and said "We're going to have to go around Vancouver Buick Flight, we have some very stormy weather.." Buick Three piped up "We can still go to Anchorage Airport Lead.." General Arnold considered this for a moment and sighed "Three, I think we will have to do that.."

He steered the flight around the thunderstorms and he joked "How long since we've flown these MIG-29's fellas?" Buick Two piped up "I've been in the Air Force for 9 years, I flew the F-20 at the start, then went to the F-9, and then this, and finally I was flying up until a couple of weeks ago, JAS-39s with the 144th, until I got transfered to the 163rd Fighter Wing which flew Eurofighter 2000s.." John, in an attempt to keep conversation going said "John Macked was the Commander of the 196th Recon Group, a sister unit of the 163, until he got transfered to the Navy flying F-14's, which according to him, we have or had, shall I say 5,880 F-14s..."

They were closing in on Anchorage Airport just as the sun started to set , and General Arnold said crisply "Tower, this is Buick Flight, a flight of 4 MIG-29s, and 2 JAS-39s, we request permission to land.." Anchorage Tower replied "Buick Lead, the runways are wide open, you have clearance to land.." He smiled, as he put down the gear and the flaps, and his MIG-29 landed smoothly on the main runway, runway 27..

He and his flight taxied towards the Guard Ramp, which he noticed parked 12 SIK-7 Air Superiority Fighters, and 8 F-15E Eagle Fighters, he parked next to a SIK-7, and hopped out to greet the Guard Commander, Col.Thomas Macalee, who smiled and said "I've got reservations at the Royal Continental, a 6 star hotel.." John smiled and he continued, "And for your flight members as well.." The pilots whooped as Col.Macalee smiled and drove them in his Ford Explorer downtown to the Royal Continental..

When they arrived General Arnold went to the restaurant with Buick One and Three who were Henry Smith (Buick One), Terry Fellan (Buick Three), and the rest went to dinner elsewhere. General Arnold settled down in a chair and he said smiling "Well guys, we made it through another stressfull patrol.." Terry smiled and said "I'd drink to that, but this whole conflict is worrying though.."

"Tell me, Captain, what was it that Consul Azzopardi had to say about this vessel?" Admiral Robert Davidson said to his subordinate as they strolled around the glass-walled observation deck of the LNV Rosenberger, one of British Londinium's superdreadnoughts (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=537259). "In your own words, no need to quote."

"Well, Admiral, both your father and the current consul said that the point of this vessel was to, ah, scare the fucking shit out of anybody foolish enough to consider an assault on the Republic," the commander replied. "If I remember their speeches to Parliament correctly."

"That you did, Commander," the admiral said, pausing to look down upon the deck of the vessel, smiling contentedly at the immense firepower the ship held. "There's a reason why we have been dispatched to Calizorinstan, along with our small escort of battleships and submarines - to remind them who is exactly in charge. Of course, you'll say, there's no reason for it, the fools don't even realize who detonated the nuclear device in their airspace, but that's not the point. The point is to remind them that they depend on our mercy for their survival."

"As you say, sir," the commander replied, curious as to why the son of the nation's most celebrated consul had decided to present this monologue to him.

As the two men silently gazed through the window at the darkened city of San Diego in the distance, the task force continued on its course to Calizorinstan.

The battleship Hades steamed along in the center of the formation, directly in front of the flagship carrier Valor. Firm the bridge, the officer of the deck could see everything for 10 miles, 20 with the spyglass. The bridge was very much "old-school", with a real ship's wheel and a vintage WWII feel to it. A petty officer manned the spyglass. Nearby, officers and enlisted men monitored vital readings. All was well. Then, it appeared. A large speck on the horizon, easily recognizable as a vessel. "Captain! Vessel on the horizon! She's Londinian, pretty big by the looks of it. I can't place the class, must be a new one," the petty officer said. "Let me have a look at her Mr. Stewart, there's not a ship on the high seas these eyes haven't seen," the captain replied, thumbing through Jane's Naval Registry to find a match. "No, I can't find her. She must have just been launched. At any rate, she's in restricted waters. Better warn her."

The Su-47 Golden Eagles of the 5th Fleet were making their patrols over the San Diego Bay Area. A squadron of twelve aircraft was making its rounds over the Ocean when a pilot saw something that made him hurry to his radio...

"Stratovarius this is Major Brigs. I've just spotted a...gigantic ship! It's in the Dreadnaught or Super Dreadnaught range of size."

"This is Major Smith, confirming Major Brigs' observation. That ship is definately a Super-Dreadnaught. And it's carrying the standards of British Londinium."

Fleet Admiral Deborah Ging, who had been listening to the pilot's report, raised an eyebrow in suspicion. British Londinium didn't exactly have the greatest reputation in the world. In fact, they were seen as being warmongerers with a taste for deception.

What were they here? Ging stepped forward and took the reciever.

"Major Brigs, this is Fleet Admiral Ging. What direction is this ship headed?"

There was a pause. "The ship is headed on a direct course for San Diego, sir." Brigs replied.

"And it's not just that one ship," added Major Smith. "There's also a small group of battleships providing escort."

Ging's eyes went wide.

"RED ALERT!" she shouted. "Contact the fleet! Have all ships ready to sail immediately! And get a hold of the Calizorinstani government and warn them that there's a Londinian fleet approaching which includes a Super-Dreadnaught!"

"Aye sir!" the radio operators got to work relaying the message.

The XO hurried over. "How can you be sure that these Londinians have hostile intentions here? They may be attempting to lend assistance!"

Ging shook her head. "Wherever British Londinium goes, trouble is sure to follow. The attacks on smaller nations, the constant human rights violations. Hell, they even attracted Damien Dreadfire's attention!"

She laughed bitterly. "They've proven time and time again that they can't be trusted. And I don't trust them now."

She turned to the helm. "Throw engines into reverse! We're pulling out!"

And so, the 5th Fleet, which hadn't spent so much as 5 hours at base, began pulling out of San Diego Bay and sailing out into the open sea. Talons and Stargazers were launched. They started their climb to 100,000 in the sky where they would await further instuctions...

Meanwhile, the radio operator had sent the warning to Calizorinstani government. Hopefully they could warn their allies of the approaching danger...

Dartian President Allesandro Vallerio was in a foul mood. At the onset of a nuclear war, Dartian security protocols mandated moving the President to a "secure location". The President hated spending time in his command bunker, and lately he'd been there plenty.

As he walked into his briefing room, the men already present rose from their seats to greet their Commander-In-Chief. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, the President got down to business.

"Tell me, Bob, what is going on here?"

The old General, Robert Collins, cleared his throat. As he spoke, a large projection monitor in the background illustrated various maps and images emphasizing his points.

"Per your instructions, we've been tracking the sub that hit Calizorinstan. Based on our sonar readings, we believe its acoustic signature matches that of a Typhoon Class Ballistic Missile Submarine. That model can carry up to twenty ICBM's. We know that it has fired eleven already, so we could be looking at another nine ICBM's if we don't take this thing out. Right now, we have two P-8's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-8_Poseidon) nearly in position to strike. The plan of attack is to have our lead plane deploy a number of sonobuoys in a wide circle around the sub, then have our second plane make the attack run using air deployed acoustic homing torpedoes."

The President thought things over for a few minutes, and asked a few questions about minor details. Eventually, he came to a decision.

"Gentlemen, I approve. Let’s begin."

A short while later, the P-8's began their attack runs.

" So we have no idea, at all, who the fuck detonated a nuclear device in one of our allies' airspace?" Asked Grand General-Marshal Molkte.
"No...no... sir... we, uh, don't." Stuttered James Monroe, intelligence leader. He was pale, and for lack of a better phrase, shaking in his boots.
" Stop stuttering like a fool. Listen to me, Monroe," Molkte's voice dripped with contempt, " If this ever happens again, I can assure you, my dear sir, that I will personally see your rank stripped and see you disgraced. Am I understood? Good, now begone."
" It had better not." Said Admiral Donitz.
" Indeed, admiral. A bunch of buffoons they are. Now, back to fixing this mess." He did a sharp turn, as he always did, towards the floating projections waiting for his commands. Donitz came to join him. " So, we have Cali here, somewhat shaken, and open to an attack. I really doubt Greston did this, they don't have the balls." Said Donitz.
" But they claimed it." Replied Molkte, he didn't really care who did it, as long as anything else to harm their allies didn't occur. And that, after all, was the whole point of this meeting. Molkte was actually Supreme Commander, or the Warmaster, and as such, he could order anybody, in any service, around.
" Alright, what do we want to send in order to secure them?" Asked Donitz.
" Well, the British are poking up around there with their new super dreadnoughts. So, I don't know, a sizable force."
" I'll send ten carriers and a Freedom Command Battleship, with supporting ships of course. That should be able to handle them. The fixation with super dreadnoughts tends to annoy me."
" Good. I'll also order the Fourteenth Air Force into position, and I'll reinforce them with Swordfish and Sariel bombers. They'll be able to assist you. Then Ill send in the sixteenth Army Group and twentieth Panzer Army. This force will able to take on anything. Draft the orders."
" Yes sir."

OOC: BL, my nation does a lot of business in your region. I have a 15 year contract worth more than $6 trillion to supply parts of Gataway's military. There are other nations in your region that I do business with too, but I mention Gataway specifically because you said your attack was originating near that nation. I am literally transporting trillions of dollars worth of stuff to the area that your submarine is operating out of. Given that, I think it is fair to say I probably have a few ships in or near the area keeping an eye on things.

For four posts over several days, I've been roleplaying hunting your submarine. I started off with single submarine that was patrolling 500 miles away from your submarine. You didn't object, so I kept going. I had my submarine launch a long range cruise missile to the location where your submarine launched its nukes. That cruise missile carried a sonobuoy. Once deployed, the sonobuoy started to ping the area. Since then, I've roleplayed tracking your submarine, and ultimately launched two P-8's to go kill it.

As far as the technicalities goes, your submarine gave its position away when it fired its missiles. Almost everyone can track missiles and figure out where they originated from. I simply fired a Tomahawk cruise missile carrying a sonobuoy at that location. The Tomahawk has a range of 2,500 km, so I could have started much further away, and still started to track you quickly after your launch. The cruise missile, air deployed sonobuoy, etc are all real life American tech.

"Yes, it means we're going to have to scuttle the submarine," the captain sighed. "Hand over the missile key."

The XO handed over the small golden key reluctantly, knowing that it would spell out his own death. The captain took it, plunged it into the control panel, and armed a single nuclear missile.

"Well, this is goodbye," the captain said ruefully, initiating the launch sequence to a missile in a closed launcher. "Pleasure serving with you."

"Same to y-"

The response was cut off by the nuclear blast.

The sonobuoy did not survive the concussive blast. When its operators stopped receiving its signal, they were about to issue orders to deploy a new buoy when they received word of a "thermal event" near the target area.

The unblinking eyes of a Vanguard Observation Satellite had caught it all on film. One moment, its thermal imager was observing the ocean as a solid mass of blue. The next, a psychodelic displays of reds, yellows, and oranges.

It didn't take the military brass long to determine a nuclear device had destroyed their target. In short order, the units assigned to give chase to the sub were ordered to stand down and resume their normal duties. While there was a general sense of relief that the sub would not be able to launch further nuclear strikes, there were more than a couple ranking officials who couldn't help but wonder why the Typhoon would destroy itself instead of fight.

With Dartia's role in this fiasco at an end, President Allesando Vallerio saw fit to contact a few of the parties involved.

Be advised that our nation attempted to engage the submarine responsible for attacking Calizorinstan. 100,000 feet up in the sky, the EB-180 Stargazers of the 5th Fleet were performing reconnaissance.

"Wing Leader to Stratovarius. We got the Londian Super-Dreadnaught on our scopes. We're transmitting the coordinates to you now."

"Wing Leader, this is Fleet Admiral Ging. Transmit coordinates to every ship in the fleet."

"Aye sir. Transmitting now."

She turned to the radio operator. "Open up a fleet-wide transmission."

"Aye sir," the operator complied. "Channel open."

Ging took the reciever. "This is the Fleet Admiral. One of our patrol craft is transmitting the coordinates of a potential enemy target. You are all to upload these coordinates into your targeting computers."

The ships of 5th Fleet recieved the coordinates from the Stargazer and uploaded them into targeting computers as the Fleet Admiral had ordered. If it came down to combat, the fleet would unleash a incredible salvo of shells, railgun fire, and cruise missiles. Enough to destroy the defenses of a Super-Dreadnaught, if not destroy it outright.

Meanwhile, on the fleet's ten Intrepid-class Supercarriers, Su-47 Golden Eagles were trafficking on the runways, ready to take off. 450 of these fighters were already in the air, as were their complete compliment of Vikings, Talons, and Stargazers.

"So that's what we've got?" Field Marshal Galver wasn't impressed, except in terms of the Cardinal numbers, but it would have to do he figured. We'll be overstrength by far in Cardinals though, which should make repairs easy @ least... "Very well Brigadier General; good job, at ease and dismissed."

There was nothing for it, so as the Political Officer left to resume his usual administrative duties FM Galver took the time to contact the G-4 Logistics Officer under Sixth Air Force, the other subordinate formation to Sixth Army Group besides Sixth Army in Wagdog's peculiar sort of organizational style. This particular G-4, a reedy man answering to Brigadier General Martin Winkles, was the sort one might mistake for a nerdy slacker if you hadn't observed his talent for arranging repair and resupply schedules on a massive-enough scale to keep large echelons of military might in working order. As his high voice answered, "Yes Comrade Marshal?" over the phone, Galver got to business; again barrio accent filtering into his voice under the stress of the situation.

"Son, the Calizorinstanis have mostly gotten our air power back in the game; fully replenished in Fighter-Strike units thanks to a surplus of Cardinals that survived the EMP somehow, five squadrons under in Priests but that'll have to do, and only five half-strength squadrons of Zeus bombers which will also have to be settled for at the moment." Now that the good news was done with, here's where the pressure came from. "Get those out to the bases, and arm 'em. I've received word the Londinians have sent a fleet into harbor here led by a new class of superdreadnought; one of their own apparently. I don't think I need to remind you how much trouble that could mean if all their protestations of 'helping' Calizorinstan turned out to be bunkum somehow. Prioritize armored vehicle repairs as of now and let me know when we can be operational to conduct more than just positional defenses, understood?"

"Yes sir. We're already getting some tanks back online using backup systems and scrounged parts, but it will take some time to get even a narrow majority working." Brig.Gen. Winkles sounded tired; but a good tired, the kind one gets from working their tail off on what they know is important. "We'll get you what's gettin' sir, no problem."

"That's all I'm asking for General. Galver out, carry on." Rising from his chair, he figured it was time to get some work done. He gathered his S-25 submachine gun and E-21 sidearm for protection, and decided a trip to his mobile command APC was in order. Not that its comms worked yet anymore, but this office was starting to get stuffy and he'd issued what orders he could. Now, as the infantry dug in where they were with their E-19 series weapons in various types as well as other arms, and while the working artillery sighted in on potential landing spots with old-fashioned maps and ballistic tables for preplotted fire, there was only to wait and see just who if anyone felt up to invading Calizorinstan after sowing what chaos they had already.

They would find a warm welcome indeed. And from a quite able force that few knew had been in-country for years already ever since deploying during its last civil war.

The 2nd Infantry Division of the Calizorinstanian Marine Corps, was currently dug in at a position 5 miles north of San Diego, on a road that the enemy or friendly's would have to cross to get to any cities north of San Diego. They had installed M2HB machine gun positions against the sandbags. They suspected that the Londinian dreadnought was not there for peaceful reasons.

General Arnold looked at his current air fleet of 4,000 aircraft that were operational, and he decided that the Wagdogian commander would find out that the Calizorinstanians had a lot more aircraft then he first realized.

Over the hills in the distance, a convoy of trucks, Humvees and LY4 Wolfhound tanks came pouring towards the Calizorinstanian Marine lines. "Hold your fire, we're friendly," came a voice form a bullhorn. As the lead truck came to a halt, a man stepped out. The star on his helmet identified him as a Brigadier General, commander of the division. "I'm General Andrei Jacek, commander of 3rd Infantry Division. Who's in charge here? I've got fifteen thousand guys ready to reinforce this line. The others of III Army Group are spread out around the San Diego area. We've also got some providing rear-echelon support in the San Francisco-Oakland area. If any Grestonians try invading, they'll catch hell from us. Oh, and don't worry about that," Jacek said, gesturing towards the Londinian ship. "Second Fleet has them covered. They try any funny business and we'll throw down right here and now."

Colonel Ivan Rogers stepped out towards General Jacek and said "I am General, This line is a good place to be re-enforced, since if they Grestonians intend to land on that beach over there.." He pointed to the west beach, "We can rain shells on them from this position, and eliminate them as a threat. We've got some M-3 Arbiter tanks with us for armored support."

Satisfied Greston was the culprit responsible for the nuclear attacks on Calizorinstan, the Dartian government weighed its response, and there were a number of schools of thought on the matter.

Some of the nation's more hawkish citizens favored nuclear strikes against Greston, but polls showed they were but a tiny minority. Still, most Dartians were in favor of retaliation against Greston. Support for an invasion or EMP style attack was widespread.

As the government weighed its options behind close doors, all people could do was wait to see what would happen next. In the meantime, the military was nearing full mobilization. When the time came to act, they would be ready.

While the 5th Fleet had gone out to face the ships from British Londinium, the radio operator had finally made a breakthrough.

"Crimean Homeland, this is San Diego Base. Crimean Homeland, can you hear this?"

There was a pause. And then...

"That's an affirmative, San Diego. We hear you loud and clear."

The San Diego operator let out a loud sigh of relief. "Thank God!" he shouted as he slumped back in his seat.

"What's the status of repairs over there? Why are we getting reports that 5th Fleet has left base?"

The operator took a breath. "Homeland, 5th Fleet sailed out of the bay approximately one hour ago. Apparently, the Londinians decided that now was the right time to show off their lastest Super-Dreadnaught."

There was a pause on the other line.

"We will make note of this, and treat it as a top priority." Homeland finally replied.

The San Diego radio operator gave a sigh of relief.

"You know, the EMP strike on Calizorinstan caught everyone off guard. When we lost contact with the base, we feared the worst had happened."

The San Diego operator laughed. "Well, perhaps the next time this happens, we'll be sure to harden our electronics so that a disaster like this doesn't happen again!"

Laughter came in from the other side. "Well, it'll be taken care of when the troops come to relieve the marines."

The operator raised an eyebrow. "Troops? I'm not sure I follow."

An audiable sigh came through on the speaker.

"The Emperor and Joint Chiefs are worried that this EMP strike is only a harbinger of things to come. We want to be prepared to defend Calizorinstan to the best of our abilities. To that end, General Trotsky has mobilized Ivan Trubetskoy's 4th Army Group for deployment."

The San Diego radio operator blinked. "Field Marshal Ivan Trubetskoy? Ivan "the Terrible" Trubetskoy?"

"The one and the same."

Location: New Caledonia

Out along the waters south of the regional capital of Nouméa, sat ten of the largest aircraft in the Wilhelmsborough arsenal: The HTS-02C Ouroboros Super-heavyweight air transport. It was designed to carry vast amounts of cargo, or entire armies if necessary.

Today, it's purpose was the latter. Loaded aboard these Super-heavyweight transports were the troops and equipment of the 4th Army Group, the Empire's most elite mobile fighting unit. They had served in West Corinthia, and the former Hatarian Colonial territories, earning themselves an incredible reputation for fighting together as a tight, unified group, and giving their Field Marshal, Ivan Trubetskoy, a reputation for ferocity in battle. For this, he had been given the nickname "Ivan the Terrible" by his colleagues. It was something that they meant in jest,

But as Field Marshal Trubetskoy strapped himself into his seat for what would be the 4th Army Group's third major deployment, he hoped that he could prove to the enemy, whoever that may be, that he truly lived up to the nickname.

Fifteen minutes later, the ten gigantic transports taxied out to more open waters. There they picked up greater and greater speed until finally, they rose up out of the water.

Their destination: San Diego. Their escort: Two wings of Su-37 Terminators covering each transport, for a total of 1,440 Terminators in total. Two wings of EB-180 Stargazers, and three wings of F/A-35 Talons also came along for the ride.

Of course, they wouldn't fly in a straight line from New Calonia to San Diego. Instead they would make a wide swing around Guadalupe Island and follow the coast of of Baja California all the way to the Calizorinstani capital. Hopefully they would arrive before things got too crazy.

The afternoon sun hung lazily over the harbor, casting its bright rays down onto the water. The slowly churning waves splashed up against the dockyard, scarcely drawing the attention of its workers. Massive cranes worked overhead, moving huge pieces of equipment like they were children’s blocks. The Naval Intelligence Command Center was located near the newly constructed Dock 35, with the upper floors of the building providing an excellent view of the hundreds of ships that were currently moored in the harbor.

Admiral Viktor Sorokin swiped his ID card, unlocking the door to one of the building’s myriad conference rooms. The door opened automatically with a soft click, and the Admiral pushed it open, making his way into the room. In its center was a large oak table, surrounded by a dozen chairs. In the middle of the table was a small projector which was aligned with a bare wall on the far side of the room. The intelligence staff was already waiting for him. There was Colonel Berezovsky, head of strategic reconnaissance operations, Admiral Cherenkov, executive commander of seaborne operations, and Rear Lavrentyev, commander of the Third High Seas Fleet. There was also a young Captain who Admiral Sorokin did not recognize.

“Admiral,” said Lavrentyev, “good of you to join us.” Sorokin acknowledged him with a nod. “It seems that the British Londii are up to their usual tricks.”

“So I’ve heard,” replied Sorokin,” Colonel Berezovsky, I assume you are going to fill us in.”

“Yes Sir,” replied the Colonel, "as of this morning, the Londinian supercapital battleship LNV Rosenberger has arrived in Calizorinstani territorial waters, along with its accompanying fleet. They appear to be using the cover of protecting the nation from a Grestonian invasion.”

“Like hell,” said Sorokin, “the Londinians know the Grestonians wouldn’t pull something like that against such a large force.”

“It seems that the majority of the Londinians forces are concentrated against the Maldorians at the moment,” said Berezovsky, “what do they have to gain in Calizorinstan?”

“Damned if I know,” said Sorokin, “but they must be up to something. The Londinians always have their own agenda.”

“So what do we do about it?” asked Rear Admiral Lavrentyev.

“We must take the necessary steps to ensure that Calizorinstan comes to no further harm,” said Admiral Sorokin, “I believe that we should deploy the Admiral Stark. The official commissioning is in two days time, and the crew already has eight months of training under their belts. Even if the Londinians don’t pull anything, we can still deploy the ‘Stark to Greston if hostilities commence.”

“Captain Geriasmov, how quickly can the crew be assembled?” asked Rear Admiral Cherenkov.

“I can have them all recalled to their posts within twenty four hours,” said the Captain, “it’s a logistical nightmare, but it can be done.”

“Good,” said Cherenkov, “the Admiral Stark will deploy in four days time. Rear Admiral Lavrentyev, the Admiral Stark will be the new flagship of the first High Seas Fleet, effective immediately. Good luck. Meeting dismissed.”

1) The Sum of 2.5 Trillion USD will be paid to Calizorinstan
2) The Sum of 2.5 Trillion USD will be paid to UFAN
3) The Greston Government will make a formal apology to Calizorinstan

Something tells me that the Grestonians aren't behind this, but I can't place it," he said to his cheif-of-staff. "Well sir, there's always the Londinians. They've never been exactly friendly to UFAN and I somehow doubt that the Rosenberger's there on a pleasure cruise. Perhaps we can deploy Indomitable to counteract the Londinian vessel. At any rate, it can't hurt." "Good idea. While I'm at it, I think I'll put CPIA on a new case. The Dartians managed to fid out that the sub's a Typhoon. It may not inplicate British Londinium, but it'll clear Greston if they don't have any. I've got a lot of writing to do. Dismissed."

OOC: I agree with BL here. I was trying to work that angle at one point myself. Greston does use Typhoons, so the fact that a Typhoon made the attack cannot be used to disprove Greston's involvement.

Now that BL destroyed his submarine in grand fashion, there isn't much available evidence for us to identify BL as the culprit. Our only reasons for suspicion are the fact that BL's submarine nuked itself. If that was Greston's submarine, it seems more sensible for it to try to escape or fight when I chased it. Also, the fact Greston is now denying responsibility for the attack casts doubt, but that is hardly reliable.

At this point, I think our best chance of figuring out that BL did it are the following:

- If someone in BL's government spills the beans
- If the friends and family of the lost sub start asking questions about what happened to it
- If someone knows that Greston has only one Typhoon, and we observe it returning to port
- If someone notices that one of BL's submarines stops returning to home port

OOC: The last one would probably be easiest since OBSAT can go anywhere and see anything. It'll take awhile, but it's the easiest.

To Government Leaders of All Nations Involved in the Ballistic Missile Strike on Calizorintsan

Hello, I am Brigadier, and now President John Batther of The Republic of Greston and would like to invite all of you to a video conference about how to sort out this missile strike on Calizorintsan without a war. We will pay any money you want us to to fix this we just don't want war. Thank you and I hope all of you will understand what we have to say.

That is all.
John Batther, President of The Republic of Greston

Location: Livadiya Palace, Yalta

Emperor William read the message to his Joint Chiefs.

General of the Army Nicolai Trotsky shook his head. "First they take the blame for attacking Calizorinstan. Then, in the face of imminent destruction, they depose their president and sue for peace."

He scoffed. "Cowards. The whole lot of them. If Greston didn't want bloodshed then they should have thought that through before launching that attack!"

"I don't know, General," replied General of the Air Force Salazar Sherman. "Quite frankly, I think that they have nothing to do with the attacks, and everything to do with a power-crazed president."

"Then why the hell doesn't the new leadership just come out and say it?" Trotsky said exasperatedly.

The Emperor spoke up. "Well, we can't exactly call them out on it, and hope that they'll confess. We can however, subtly push them in that direction..."

---------------

Official Response from the Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire

We are glad that Greston has come to its senses and wishes to talk terms. Well, we have some terms of our own. You will pay a total of $10 Trillion Dollars apiece to Calizorinstan and the Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire. We also order that you pay $5 Trillion dollars apiece to the other nations that sent aid to the city.

These terms may seem rather harsh. But we here in the Empire believe them to be highly appropriate, considering the level of damage you inflicted on the city of San Diego, as well as our naval base in San Diego Bay. But do not believe for one moment that I am deliberately targeting Greston with crippling terms. I would impose them on any nation guilty of launching attacks on innocent nations of the world. And we will do the same to Greston.

Unless of course, you have something to say that the rest of us don't know.

Signed,

William Kennedy, Emperor

1800Z Hours
450 Kilometers from San Diego Harbour

The LNS Leninsk sailed through the calm seas near the coat of Calizorinstan, a stark contrast to the gale which had buffeted the fleet only days before. Overhead, a half dozen F/A-62 Sparrow fighters flew combat air patrol, providing constant cover for the advancing fleet. Over the fighters flew a lone EC-6, a Labhekistani-made variant of the E-2B Hawkeye. The EC-6flew lazy ovals around the fleet, providing an enhanced radar picutre and ensuring that no hostile aircraft tried to sneak up on the fleet.

On the bridge of the Leninsk, Admiral Levanevsky gazed out at the two fleets which were slowly making their way towards Calizorinstan. They were due to meet the Prestonian fleet within the next fourty-eight hours. Levanevsky's plan was to wait in international waters outside of San Diego and wait for the arrival of the Third High Seas Fleet. Although the situation has calmed down slightly from the panic of a week before, Levanevsky was still approaching the situation with caution. The Admiral didn't want to risk an attack on the fleet, whether Grestonian or otherwise. No one said it, but he knew they would all feel safer when the LNS Admiral Stark arrived.

He began to draft a message to the Prestonian Fleet:

1806Z Hours

From: Admiral Levanevsky
FIRST AND SECOND HIGH SEAS FLEETS EXPECT TO RENDEZVOUS AT GIVEN COORDINATES WITHIN 48 HOURS. THIRD FLEET IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY.

Augustgrad Naval Command Center

The LNS Admiral Stark was putting to sea for the first time. The departure of the supercapital warship had drawn a large crowd from across the city. The warship, at nearly 1700 meters long, was the largest warship ever produced in Labhekistan, and one of the largest in the entire world. Armed with twelve 33 inch guns and thousands of missiles, the warship was truly the master of the seas. Equipped with two dozen UAVs and four helicopters, the Admiral Stark was well protected against any threat.

With the warship would sail three supercarriers, dozens of battlecruisers, as well as frigates, destroyers, submarines, and their many tenders. The Third High Seas fleet alone was a force to be reckoned with. When combined with the First and Second fleets, they would be next to unstoppable.

Large dark waves broke on the bow of the RDS-Deòrsa Aindrea. The seas were stormy today. Rain constantly poured down on Dweladelfian Naval Task Force 1. Admiral Deòrsa Dougal was put in charge of the Taskforce. He stood on the Deòrsa Aindrea’s bridge observing the area forward with his binoculars

"Sir I have the weather report for you. Overcast skis high seas, waves 4-7 feet. Downpours all day."

"Do you all think I'm blind? I think I can see that."

"Uhm yes ssir."

"How is this weather setting back our aircrews?"

"They're reports say they are on schedule. 1st Strike Fighter Squadron is ready on your command Sir."

"Very well, what is our ETA?"

"ETA is 2 hours."

"Carry on."

"Aye Aye Sir."

Admiral Dougal looked down at the flight deck. Crews prepared ETF-56N Mockingbird Strike Fighters for launch. Some loaded AMRAMS while others fueled the planes. The Admiral turned his gaze over to the destroyers and cruisers escorting the carriers. Hydra Class CGs flanked the carrier as Republic-Class DDG and Dragon Class Air Defense and Command Frigates took point. The rest of his taskforce followed in the Strike groups wake. The long arm of Dweladelfia was reaching towards Calizorinstan.

"What's the current situation?"

The office of the President-Kommissariat was bustling with activity. Although business had resumed as normal with no further attacks or theats against SC members, the government went back to work. However, the situation was still a major topic in the Cynapsian Government.

Coltrane listened carefully as his NSA gave him an update on the situation - the repayments requested, the movement of foreign forces, and other points of interest. He sat back, considering the information.

"Well," he said carefully. "Even if Greston is prepared to repay, the deal being made still makes no effect on our Commonwealth obligations. Until we here otherwise from the Soviet War Council in Wanderjar, I'm going to go with the current idea that there still might be a Commonwealth retaliation."

Coltrane looked down at the papers on his desk, listing force readiness reports of the newly-updated military. "Increase force readiness levels to DefCon 3," he said, turning a page. "Put Radar and SAM systems on alert, and put the all military and naval assets on possible mobilisation warning."

PNS Indomitable
Docked in St. Andrews
0630 Hours
Admiral Ulyanov stood on the bridge of PNS Indomitable and surveyed his surroundings. The ship was massive, and from his vantage point he could see the entire city of St. Andrews. The majority of the city's blue-collar workers worked in the docks or at St. Andrews Ironworks, about a mile from where Indomitable was sitting. It was just six months ago that she had emerged from this place, born of steel and fire. Now, she would pass her birthplace, with First Fleet in tow, and set off on a voyage to Calizorinstan. The crew, however, knew none of this. What they knew was that they were doing Pacific sea trials. While this was indeed a part of the mission, it was not the whole mission. The most important part of the mission had been withheld. They were sailing to reinforce San Diego and counter the Rosneberger's presence there. Ulyanov was suddenly stirred from his thoughts by a glimpse of the sunrise over the quay. "Hoist the colors," came the order. With that note, and as the national anthem played, the flag was raised over the bridge. At the same time, the naval jack was strung up from the flagpole on the stern of the ship. "Raise the semaphore," came the next order. A line of colored flags spelling out INDOMITABLE were raised on the main line from bridge to bow. Now, she was ready to go. With a standard whistle, one long and one short, she was off. As the tugs guided her into the channel, the engines were activated and she crept slowly upwards in speed, reaching 10kts by the time she exited the Bay of Good Fortune. Flanked on all sides by First Fleet, her task force was a sight to behold. "Well, we're free of the channel, let's stretch her legs a bit, shall we? Full speed ahead," Ulyanov said in an excited tone. "Test all systems, I want to be certain everything works. Meanwhile, I've got some paperwork to fill out. Commander Helmsley, you have the bridge until I return. Keep us on course, lad."

Amidst the sophisticated, modernized bridge of the Navy's most deadly warship to date, Fleet Admiral Robert Davidson seemed out place sipping a delicate porcelain cup of tea. It was another one of those bizarre contrasts that had always marked British Londinium, such as the fact that the country proper had a remarkable amount of civil, economic, and political freedoms - though its colonies continued to be oppressed daily.

"Sir, we've got some sort of horrifically large contact on the radar," a sensors officer reported duly.

"Oh, I know," the admiral said. "I can hear that little beeping noise. Ah, I love it. Beep...beep...beep..."

"It, er, appears to be a Prestonian superdreadnought," said another officer anxiously.

"And that's going to scare you?" laughed Davidson. "Don't be such a craven aardvark, Lieutenant. They're Prestonians, don't let that fact escape you. Haven't the balls to squish a bug. Maintain position. Weapons, I want firing solutions on that pathetic excuse for a naval vessel, and I want them in ten minutes!"

Sure enough, there was Rosenberger, sitting at anchor less than two miles from First Fleet. "They call that thing a supercapital? Let's show these little shits what a real vessel looks like. All ships, clear out! We're coming to the head of the formation." With that order, the front of the formation opened up and the massive Indomitable slid from the protection of her escort. Turning to the Rosenberger's bridge on the spyglass, Ensign Richard Matthews, the observation officer, stared into the bridge of the other vessel. It was not much different from his own. Different uniforms, different layout, but same basic instruments. "Perhaps we aren't so different after all," he muttered to himself.

International Waters near Calizorinstan

It had taken awhile for news to reach Akimonad of an attack on Calizorinstan. The government felt compelled to respond, considering themselves to have had okay relations with the Calizorinstanis in the past.

And so, a fleet was sent in to prevent further damage and maintain the fragile peace.

It had been sent out a week ago under classified orders and was now arriving near its intended destination.

ORBAT:
3x Chupacabra-class Super Dreadnaughts
12x Nimitz-class carriers
36x Wasp-class Amphibious Assault Ships
60x CG(X) Guided Missile Cruisers
54x Zumwalt Destroyers
75x Alfa-class SSNs
36x Ohio-class SSBNs
40x K130 Corvettes

They had arrived just in time to see the LNV Robert Rosenberger fire upon the Cazelian vessel.

The seamen looked on with feelings amounting to "meh".

The 5th Fleet was now 5 miles out. By now, they could see the ships of nations which had sent aid to Calizorinstan. The Londinian Super Dreadnaught was also in plain sight.

By now, nearly all of the Su-47 Golden Eagles had been launched. The flight decks were practically empty. This was good: best for a plane to be destroyed in combat than it was to be blown up on the runway. At least the destruction doesn't get in the way of other jets.

The atmosphere inside the Stratovarius CIC was tense.

"We're coming up on the Londinian fleet now, sir," said the helm.

Fleet Admiral Deborah Ging nodded. "Yes, I can see them from here," she replied grimly, her eyes taking in the sight of the Super Dreadnaught.

The XO went over to firing control station. "Is the fleet ready for battle?"

"Affirmative, sir." replied the Lieutenant. "All guns are loaded, all tubes are hot, and CIWS is up and running. This fleet is as ready as it'll ever be, sir."

The XO nodded. "Excellent." He turned to Fleet Admiral Ging. "What are your orders, Admiral?"

Ging was silent.

"Admiral?"

She was shook out of her reverie. "My apologies. Actually, I'm not sure what course of action to take. Sure the Londinians have a bad reputation, but they haven't made any unjust moves as of ye-"

Her words were silenced by a loud BOOM. It came from the Londinian Super-Dreadnaught.

Instantly, the CIC went into action.

"What the hell was that!" shouted Fleet Admiral Ging.

"They opened fire, sir!"

"I know that Lieutenent! But at who? Us?"

The radio operator spoke up. "Sir! I'm getting a message from the Stargazers! They say that a foreign ship just got hit!"

None of her ships were hit. Ging was relieved, but only for half a second.

"What country does that ship hail from?"

The operator shook his head. "He doesn't know sir! It looks like it was on it's own!"

Then the second radio operator spoke up. "Admiral! We're recieving an emergency transmission! They're...they're from Cazelia, sir!"

The Fleet Admiral raised an eyebrow. "Cazelia? But they were wiped off the map! By the Londinians!"

"Looks like some of them survived" replied the XO. "But not for long. But I say again, Admiral: what are your orders?"

Ging looked out at the water. A great column of smoke was rising over the blasted Cazelan ship. In a few minutes it would all be over. The Londinians would deliver the killing strike. More Cazelians would die. And nobody would do a thing about it. Nobody...

Suddenly Ging's face contorted into an expression of fury. Like hell. This has to stop. And it's stopping right now.

She whipped her neck around.

"Open up a channel with the Londinian ship!"

"Sir...?" the operator replied in a confusion tone.

But Ging just looked at him with a thunderous look in her eyes, and he knew that he had to comply.

"Channel open, sir!"

She cleared her throat and began speaking in a clear, firm and authoritative voice:

"Attention Londinian ships! This is Fleet Admiral Deborah Ging of the Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire! I have no idea why you've entered Calizorinstani waters, but by launching an attack on a foreign vessel, you have proven yourself too reckless and too unpredictable to travel any further! Cease your attack and withdraw from these waters immediately, or the 5th Fleet will take action to defend both the Cazelian ship and ourselves should it come down to it!"

She put down the reciever. "Status report! Are all fighters away?"

"Aye sir," the XO replied. "All birds away. Helicopters are getting ready to take off."

"Get them into the air as soon as possible! I have a feeling that trouble's just around the corner."

She looked out at the Londinian ship and waited for a response.

“Three, two, one, and we’re live.”

The light on the camera went red, and Max Coltrane smiled at the camera from behind his office desk. All around him, sound technicians, camera crew and government officials listened in respectful silence as the President-Kommissariat addressed the nation from the teleprompter in front of him.

“Comrades and friends,” he began, clasping his hands in front of him on the desk. “We stand at a time of solidarity with our Calizorinstan Commonwealth allies in the aftermath of an abhorrent nuclear attack on their capital city of San Diego. I send my condolences to the families and friends of victims lost in this terrible tragedy, as I’m sure all Cynapsians do.”

As he spoke to the nation and families watched the television screens earnestly, a flurry of activity was taking place on numerous bases across the USSC. Mig-29 Fulcrums were leaping into the sky, arcing gracefully in the air as they turned towards Calizorinstan and began their ferrying journey across the ocean, to arrive there in several hours. Army bases packed up and began rolling troops out onboard transport trucks, moving to the airbases that would transport the troops to their comrade’s shores.

“We stand at a time in history where nations are growing, and superpowers are jockeying for position on the world stage,” Coltrane continued. “We stand at a time in history where the struggle for the success of peace and unity is under constant assault by enemies who would profit from conflict and division. We must act to maintain the peace, for very few will.”

Vessels from several seaports departed and met up within Cynapsian waters – a taskforce comprising the bulk of the Cynapsian Navy, carrying Red Army forces to Calizorinstan within two days. There, they would create a makeshift military base between Castle Airbase and Long Beach harbour in order to assist the defence of the area. Supply ships laden with military stores, ammunition and fuel for all branches of the military were tucked safely within the protective circle of Cruisers, Missile Boats and the Kirov Battlecruiser CN Lenin, whilst Romeo Class submarines prowled the waters below for potential threats, forming a spear ahead of the surface vessels.

“I have therefore acted to deploy Red Army assets from each branch of the military to protect our Calizorinstan comrades in the case of continued attack. This is where we draw the line, and say ‘you cannot bully us, for we a strong together’, and take one step further towards the ultimate goal of peace in our time.”

“Thank-you, and may the light of the Revolution guide you.”

The rescue team inside the Blackhawk heard the sound of gunfire.

"Look!" one shouted. "Down there!" he pointed.

The searchlight turned downward to see a woman. She was horribly wounded and in need of medical attention.

One of the rescue workers spoke into a megaphone. "WE SEE YOU THERE. SIT TIGHT, WE'RE COMING TO PICK YOU UP."

The gerney was lowered onto the ship along with a rescue worker. They reached the deck of the smoking ship and moved to help the woman. The doctor could see that she was pretty badly crippled. She might need an artificial arm put in its place. But first things first. He had to get her off this ship.

"We're from the Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire. We're here to help." he stated as he worked to strap the woman to the gerney.

"You're going to be all right," he reassured the woman. "What's your name by the way?"

Then he was brought back to life in a FT RP, and somehow, made his way back to MT.

He finished strapping Mary to the gerney and signalled to the Blackhawk to hoist them up.

Meanwhile, more rescue workers lowered onto the Wasp and started looking for other survivers.

At the same time, a Pomornik LCAC raced towards the ship at full speed. Their job was to pick up anyone trapped in the cold water.

There were hundreds of dead sailors in the water. The wasp was an armed refugee ship. The bodies of dead women and children floted through the water, thier flesh charred from the explosions. There were only 12 survivors out of 1,000 passengers and crew. A young boy called out for the ship, using his mother's dead body as a life raft "Help my mommy!" he yelled, waving his hands in the air

The crew of the LCAC leaned out on the railings and looked at the grim sight before them. Men, women, children. All dead, and all floating on the water.

The crewmen shook their heads in disgust. Who were these Londinian monsters? Who were these scum who would slaughter innocent people?

Then they heard a voice. It was a young boy, no older than ten clinging to a woman's corpse.

"Help my mommy!" he cried out.

The crewmen looked at the poor wretched boy and flinched in sorrow and disgust. Then they got to work with increased dilligence. Rescue divers jumped into the water and started pulling out survivers.

The boy was rescued first, and the divers made sure to bring his mother's body along. He had suffered enough watching her die and then clinging to her bloated corpse for survival. At least he could be allowed to say goodbye at her funeral.

The crewman, a Lieutenant of the Wilhelmsborough Imperial Navy, nodded his head sadly.

"Yes we know. Our fleet was just coming into range of the Londinian super dreadnaught when they opened fire on our ship. Fortunately the Fleet Admiral was able to chase 'em off but..." he looked around at the survivers on the deck, all huddled together. Though they had survived the attack, all one had to do was look them in the eyes to tell that they had no life in them.

"Why the hell did they do that?" said the Lieutenant in frustration. "Why did they open fire on you specifically?"

Cynapsian air assets had by now reached Castle AB, and the crews were settling in for a period of time until a redeployment was deemed suitable. Although the theatre appeared to be dying down, the Calizorinstan Expeditionary Force was on hand to ensure that nobody took advantage of the situation until the area was deemed officially safe by the Cynapsian High Command. With the issue over a retaliation against Greston still on the cards, the Cynapsian forces were also considering the use of Calizorinstan as a staging point from which too attack.

The Naval forces of the group had also just arrived on the scene. A Battlecruiser, 4 Cruisers and an assortment of smaller vessels slowed as they entered Calizorinstani waters, approaching an area of water where foreign naval forces were still occupying.

Admiral Mark Oaten, overall commander of the Cynapsian naval forces within the group, stared at one of the radar screens in the CinC of the CV Lenin, examining the situation ahead. Forward scouting by the Missile Boat's CV Charlie and Delta reported that there was currently a rescue operation underway in the area. After a moment of consideration, Oaten turned to the Radio Operator.

"Signal the Wilson to break off and assist the rescue," he ordered. The RO saluted in return, and sent orders to the Cruiser CV Wilson, which pealed off and accelerated towards the rescue area.

He turned back to the Cazelian marine. "In any case, the survivers of this ship will be brought back to San Diego. You'll get a chance to recover from your ordeal, as well as bury any dead that you may have. After that..." the Lieutenant shrugged his shoulders. "I guess that you'll have to decide where to go from there."

General John Arnold was sitting in a command building at San Diego Field, from where he could get a clear view of the harbor, and the IDS Hornet/Hawk that he saw on it's side, and he wondered if his wife was on that ship, and if she lived.

He shook his head, he couldn't cry too much, he needed to be a strong leader. He looked at the map in front of him, the Cypnasians had arrived at Long Beach, and put their air assets at Castle AB, and then making a base in between Castle and Long Beach for their ground assets.

"At least the coastline is pretty well protected so far, and if they (the enemies) land at a place that isn't protected, we can bombard them with some Tomahawk cruise missiles.." He thought to himself, as he paced back and forth up and down the room.

Due to the declining nature of hostilities in the area at this time, the Cynapsian government is announcing its intentions to recall some of the military force currently deployed to Calizorinstan. However, we wish to maintain a degree of the current force on Calizorinstani territory to ensure the safety of out Soviet Commonwealth colleagues. To this end, we would like to request permission from the Calizorinstain government to establish a permanent base on the site of our current Army deployment area, to be known as Bakersfield Garrison, to assist in the common defence of our comrades.

Ministry of War Communiqué

To the Calizorinstani High Command:

It is the opinion of the Ministry of War the continued stability and security of Calizorinstan is vital to ensuring a safe Pacific; any change in the status quo is unwelcome and poses a significant threat to regional security. Thus, it is in the interests of both Calizorinstan and British Londinium to prevent any armed incursions into your territory.

To this end, the War Ministry would like to establish a radar tracking station in Alaska to screen for incoming nuclear missiles from the north. Furthermore, the Ministry of War would like to create a naval garrison and training facility in Monterey. We would be delighted to train Calizorinstani naval personnel if such a facility were to be created.

Sincerely,

OOC: I appologize for my slowness. My online time is limited to maybe once or twice a week these days and I have other things to do than NS stuff. I browsed through the topic since I last posted and think I know whats going on, if I'm wrong please correct me... lets just assume that my limited resources in the area are mostly occupied with the refugees from San Diego?

The soldiers in camp were just there to be a glorified police force; the refugee camp was quickly becoming a shanty town. Some building materials mostly plywood and corogatted tin and refugees formed makeshift work crews that were quickly building rudementary structures. The battallion commander had recently just requested the allocation of funds to hire Grasaland to make a better settlement that could last as long as necesary. The Calizorinstan Refugees were well policed, 2,000 Infantry soldiers were babysitting them, policing them, mostly breaking up fights and seperating troublemakers from the rest though they could not do much to incarcerate them as none were SaintB citizens; feeding them all was becoming an emmense task that required the whole cooking staff from Nelson Airbase and several civillians who volunteered to help; hopefully nobody was going to riot over eating soup for the 4th day in a row.
The camp was an interesting affair, soldiers and civillians milled about the streets, mingling with each other and performing a variety of tasks. It reminds one of a third world nation, well armed adn equipped men helping build shacks and dig latrines; semi trucks passed in and out every day carrying foodstuffs and toiletries for the refugees and overall things were running pretty smoothly. Things were going to get hectic soon as a severe stormfront was washing in from the sea to inland and would almost be garanteed to hit the refuge.

Five miles from Highway 99 and ten miles from Bakersfield, the construction of a military base was underway. A concrete base had been laid, upon which barracks for five thousand soldiers and a motor pool for the 50 T-72MERAKs, 50 "Thunder Giant" artillery units and 50 "Aircraft Terror" anti-air units. Around this, machine gun posts and sentry towers were being built on the perimeter, behind two twenty foot chain-linked fences topped with barbed wire and patrolled in between by guard dogs and troops. The CN Ajax was being used to move construction equipment to the area.

At Castle Airbase, 50 Mig-29 Fulcrums and 25 Backfire bombers were to remain, providing air support for the Bakersfield Garrison.

The 5th Fleet returned to their base in San Diego Bay. They had collected all the survivers and as many bodies as they could find before the ship sank beneath the waves.

By now, the 4th Army Group had arrived in Calizorinstan. Unfortunately, the situation had died down, so there wasn't any need for them. Still, General Trotsky ordered Field Marshal Trubetskoy to deploy his soldiers around southern Calizorinstan. The soldiers needed the training after all.

As things got back to normal around the naval base, Fleet Admiral Deborah Ging ordered a fleet-wide overhaul. All unprotected electrical systems were now required to be protected from EMP blasts. Her orders affected the electrical systems throughout the base as well.

Should there be a repeat of the previous day's attack, the Wilhelm-Hatarian Empire wanted to be absolutely ready to jump into action. They wouldn't be caught asleep at the wheel again.
