Pre-colonization imagery of Firanja
The planet Firanja (fəranˈja) is the fourth planet in the Zentalquabula system, and home to 1.2 billion individuals, many of whom descend from colonists hailing from the long-gone People's Sovereign Republic on Terra. It is a mere two parsecs from the nearby planet of Serenity, separated by the Aozhou Nebula. It has one moon, Selene, which has a primitive ecosystem in development.
The planet formed about 6 billion years ago, and life appeared on its surface within two billion years. Since then, Firanja's biosphere has significantly altered the atmosphere and other abiotic conditions on the planet. Oxygenic photosynthesis evolved 2.7 billion years ago, forming the primarily nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere that exists today. This change enabled the proliferation of aerobic organisms as well as to the formation of the ozone layer which, together with Firanja's magnetic field, blocks harmful radiation, permitting life on land.
Geography
Firanja is primarily dominated by three continents: Coventry, Azzopardi, and Victoria. The third, Victoria, is the largest, and is the centre of the planet's political, cultural, and economic scene. The major seas are dotted with millions of smaller islands. Victoria is also home to the Commonwealth's capital, Camilleri, a bustling metropolis designed off the ancient Londinian capital of Kensington.
Climate
Due to the planet's distance from the system's sun, the planet is characterized by extremely long, brutal winters, and short, temperate summers. During the winter, massive supercell snowstorms prevail over the majority of the planet. The equator is one of the only areas to have a tropical climate.
Native Organisms
Firanja is populated by a unique set of extraordinary creatures, most notably the sharara, an intelligent shark capable of communicating through bioluminescent patches, and the snowstalker, a saber-toothed dog specialized for snow terrain.
