"Good evening, I'm reporter Trisha Takanawa from Pacifica News Channel. Your hotline to what's happening in New Potomac's capital.
In our top news story tonight, New Potomac President Howard Lovecraft officially presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the new governor's house on New Potomac's overseas possession of Lone Harbor. Newport Governor Cathleen Vega was also in attendance. The President shared his thoughts on this momentous occasion with PNC."
The screen cut to the President, holding a ceremonial shovel and smiling broadly:
"I am excited about the future of Lone Harbor. In addition to mineral resources on the island itself, as well as oil reserves in the surrounding seas, it is my belief that Lone Harbor is ideally located to serve as the trade and commerce center for New Scotland.
New Potomac is a nation with no enemies, so we welcome all countries establishing colonies on New Scotland to take advantage of our business-friendly laws. We have no corporate profit tax and a 4% personal income tax. Our banking privacy laws are based on the Swiss model, and we welcome foreign investment.
The government of New Potomac, and our nation's many corporations, are investing billions of New Dollars to ensure that Lone Harbor's infrastructure is world-class. We are building an international airport and dredging the already-fine deep harbor to allow even larger tankers and freighters to dock at the new seaport.
Of course, we know that there is bad blood between some of the colonizing nations. We offer Lone Harbor as neutral ground, where all parties may engage in trade and commerce on even terms."
The screen was again filled by Trisha's flawless features.
"And that's our top story for the night. Martie is up next with the sports scores, including the biggest rugby upset of the year."

New Scotland, Imperial Janissary Corps Task Force Zero-Two, A Base of Operations
Field Marshal Fedot Sidorov had lived, up until quite recently, a very difficult life. He was born a peasant in a nation whose name he had forgotten, or been made to forget... he did not remember...
He was taken in by the Leafistani Mafia, and brought to a facility, he did not remember where. For a year, he was conditioned, trained, and received numerous surgeries which he knew had implanted the conditioning chip at the base of his spine that was his master today.
He was then taken aboard a boat, and there he waited for only two hours, before again being unloaded at a similar facility. This one, however, was much darker, more sinister.
He had, that day, arrived at the Pudite Galation Islands Praetorian Guards Field Headquarters, where for the next two years, he received further training, and brutal mental testing and modifications, that he today could not recall a word of. That is, when he was done, he was again put aboard a ship. He did not go far, then, however, and was unloaded only a few miles away on a smaller island, where was based the Imperial Janissary Corps.
He was trained in those years among the Praetorians to be a Field Marshal among these men, and was quickly awarded control of a single Legion; one-hundred thousand men. Here, on this island, he was drilled and proceeded to drill, for another year.
Then, he was moved again. Two divisions of his command were loaded onto old transport craft, and sailed, under light escort in what they were told was the direction of somewhere known as New Scotland, where the Dominion had staked a claim. Five years ago, he was destined to become a farmer, or perhaps a carpenter. Now, he was a Field Marshal in the Imperial Janissary Corps, bound for conquest.
In truth, the Dominion had staked no claim anywhere; that is to say, the Emperor had expressed no desire to lay claim to any piece of what was New Scotland. It was, however, understood that the Imperial Janissary Corps had staked a claim there...
Mr. White, the foreign affairs officer and a personal advisor to the Emperor Pudu XLII, had been of late taking upon himself the duty of management of the Janissary Corps, a unit he had ordered to be founded. In truth, the Emperor knew nothing of this further branch of Pudite military, a branch that bore his title; Imperial Janissary Corps. It was, in fact, no such thing.
This quickly-growing arm was, essentially, a private army under the personal command of one Mr. White. Some might think that it was formed in response to the growing number of prisoners accumulated by the Dominion's fourth-phase occupation strategy; that is, garrison the population of any country, not exterminate, to provide a workforce afterwards. It was, however, true that the livelihood and will to cooperate of many of these captured persons was well beyond salvaging when the fighting was over. So it was, that the first of the slave legions was formed, during the fighting in Chitzeland. These were religious units, and sanctioned by the Emperor, but they were slaves none-the-less.
It may have inspired Mr. White's actions some years later. It, however, did not.
Mr. White acted solely for the purpose of raising his own private army, in whatever way seemed most practical. The Noblemen of each Compound had their Cohortes Urbanae, and militia troops; the Emperor had his Imperial Army, Air Force, and Navy, and the Praetorian Guard were in essence their own organization. Each of these forces had their own established history and location; the Nobles lived in their Compounds, and the Emperor lived over them all, through the establishment of the Imperial Senate. The Praetorians had long ago conquered the Galation Archipelago for their own purposes, but Mr. White was left both powerless and homeless, as it were.
And so, the first Janissary Divisions were formed, and now, they spread.
Field Marshal Fedot Sidorov's instructions were to; "create a homeland suitable for continued occupation by fully a million inhabitants, as well as to provide a dependable infrastructure and natural resource abundance for the fueling of a national industry,"
He had at his disposal twenty-thousand soldiers, and their equipment, as well as three-hundred thousand unskilled laborers. It would be their task, to create a home for the Janissary Corps, and a base of power for yet another faction of the quickly dividing Dominion of the Emperor Pudu XLII...
None would yet know how this would shape the future of the Empire as it was…
---- ---- ---- ---- ----
As the great ships prepared entered what was known locally as Tichaona Alan Gulf, the fleet was splintered. A greater part of the force steamed ahead, to make landfall at the head of a small peninsula jutting from the greater part of the Pudite claim. With this force went two-hundred thousand laborers and a full division of Janissaries; ten-thousand men.
With the smaller force, went one-hundred thousand workers, and the second division of Janissaries. Of this force, General Vladko Ganchich would command as Governor-General of this province, and would then hold that position until his replacement by Imperial Janissary Corps Command.
Commanding the larger force, Field Marshal Fedot Sidorov would not serve in the same capacity, as he would be required to provide a greater command structure to unify the two provinces. Commanding as Governor-General here would be General Iakov Apostol.
The subservient divisions of now Governor-Generals Apostol and Ganchich would serve as the provincial guard of that area, and would from now on, not be moved.
Shortly, the remainder of the 2nd Legion, as commanded by Field Marshal Sidorov, would make landfall, and proceed to aid in the construction of the first worker-villages and rough-hewn roadways. For now, though, that duty rested with the Janissaries and their laborers.
They would create long roads through the arid countryside, and along these paths would be small towns, devoted to the future mining and harvesting of any required natural resource yet discovered by the Imperial Janissary Survey teams, which would be dispatched ahead of the advancing colonizers.
This land would be tamed, and it would be tamed quickly. Mr. White could afford no delay, as he established his industrial base, and military headquarters for his pseudo-military.
Time was of the essence.
New Petrovsk, General Government of Vetalian New Scotland
New Petrovsk would one day be the great capitol of this new addition to Vetalia, but for now, it was a square kilometer consisting entirely of a tangle of dirt roads, improvised utility poles, concrete barracks, scattered steel trailers and the ever-present din of construction at seemingly all hours. Trucks, small vehicles, and the occasional government limousine weaved delicately through the forests of scaffolding and flocks of cranes building the first blocks of the new city, more often than not narrowly avoiding driving in to the deep trenches that would one day accommodate the city's sewer and drainage systems.
Outside of the construction zone, a primitive tarmac airstrip provided a landing zone for supply planes and the small aircraft surveying the local area for resources. Already, these flights had been productive, discovering significant supplies of manganese and iron and the newest flights brought back signs that confirmed deposits of oil, uranium and other resources lay under the soil of the southern regions. For now, however, the goal was to get a port and full airport functioning so that the government could ferry in the supplies needed to locate and extract the valuable raw materials of the territory.
The actual government of the territory itself was based offshore, on board one of the battleships that served as the escort fleet for the colonization efforts. With them were 20,000 soldiers, mostly reservists called up for service in the colonies as an alternative to the active-duty troops who were resupplying for potential redeployment in British Londinium. They spent their days stringing barbed-wire fencing along the border, setting up rudimentary checkpoints, and patrolling the border for any potential smuggling or wrongdoing. However, the borders hardly needed the majority of the troops and so they spent their days working as construction laborers, aiding the civilians in the construction of roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure as well as improving their own bases and border stations.
Optimistically, the colony could begin to receive its first settlers in no more than a year, although it would likely take 5 to have a functional economy and a self-supporting one in a decade. The government was offering a bonus of 100,000 rubles to people who relocated to the colonies, and a wide variety of tax cuts and rebates for companies to invest and construct the residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and raw materials properties needed to develop the colonial economy. These investments were pricey, costing the government around 30-50 billion rubles per year, but they were well worth it. Once the crude oil began to flow, the colony would not be short of funds again...and for most up-and-coming Vetalians, service in the new colony would prove to be a fast track to wealth and status at home, drawing them there to begin building their lives.
Vetalian Scotland was developing, but how and in what direction it would develop remained to be seen. After all, they certainly weren't alone in this new world.
Kuronan Times
Kurona Contiues Global Expantion
SONOMI-Princess Tomoyo announced today that Kurona has now aquired a new colony, this time in New Scotland. Along with many others, Tomoyo hopes to take advantage of a new strategic position by helping disperese the ever expanding population of Kurona. "The population has grown faster than we had predicted." Said Tomoyo. "If this keeps up Kurona won't have much more space to contiune as a country. We'll become too crowded." Kuronan Ships have set sail to arrive within the next several days. As to who has been chosen to Govern, 17 year old Yuji Takata along with his wife Sakura has been chosen to be the Ruling Prince over this new colony. (see Takata on B1)
"It's a great honor for me." Takata said. "To be the son of a Governeor one day, a Prince of a Kuronan Outpost the next."
West Scotzdom
The 7th Battlegroup dropped anchor four miles off the coast of the plot of land now being called West Scotzdom. The fleet was by no means spectacular, but then again, the Kroandan Navy was never known for it's prowess. The vessels however were overly busy, dropping off landing craft by the hundreds, for instance over 800 MHAV-24 Horns were dumped into the water, and they quickly sped onland, securing the coast. They were accompanied by scores of amphibious assault craft, and shortly after, massive landing vessels.
The first order of business was setting up some sort of base camp, Ft. Baron, named after the commander of the force on the island, Marshall Baron, was immidiately placed under construction. Thousands of pounds of concrete were unloaded from the transport vessels as fixed defensive positions were errected, bunkers created and trench lines dug out. There was not an idle man in the force, as sand bags were filled and gun emplacements erected. As SAM sites were brought online and mobile RADAR-LADAR Units set up. As thousands upon thousands of supply crates were hauled towards the camp. As fuel and ammo dumps were formed. As tents were errected. As the Terran Flag was raised.

Waldenburg 2
28-08-2007, 15:28
Waldenburger Colony, New Scotland: New Jerusalem
Crystal clear waters, sandy beaches, and oil all for free, apparently without clause. The Home office had not liked such a proposal, but free land was free land, and this land, at least by Waldenburger standards was Land. The first surveyors walked around fiddling with their range finders, they had never been asked to build around trees. Some of them had never even seen a tree growing naturally, and here they were, yards high and green. It was an amazing thing to see, and the prospect overwhelmed the army's engineers who were accompanying the primary expedition.
The WIS Pontiffstood out to bay it's crew ringing the flight deck in anticipation of going ashore and seeing the wonders of grass, and if they were lucky flowers. Pontiff had already put out a flight of F-35's that were scanning the inland of the claim, they wielding reported back on every aspect of nature, every tree and flower. Where there are people there are priests however, and Father Hannison had already ordered three apes shot and their bodies burned, the Church had never come to accept evolution and battled it at every turn.
With the whiff of death on the air, a Regiment of the Divine Legion Paraded up and down the sandy beach, The Imperial Review played, coronets mixing lightly with the ocean breeze and drifting over the colony. Prefab buildings were already going up, and workers were being brought ashore by the boats of the various ships at anchor. It was a considerably small squadron bringing with it, 12,000 workers and two regiments of the Divine Legion, and it's associated vehicles. Those not raising the flag or on parade march, were lugging supplies up the beach and erecting the Government House.
It would be a proud colony of the Empire, and it's first expansion in many years, but by far not the last.
New Potomac
28-08-2007, 15:38
Cathleen Vega looked out from the pre-fab building that currently served as her office and the center of Lone Harbor's government. The future city was, to be honest, a scene of controlled chaos at this point. New Potomac's corporations had descended on the colony like a horde of locusts. Cranes were everywhere and construction vehicles rumbled through the streets at all hours.
Southern Star Nautical Engineering had won the government contract to build the harbor. They had already installed a temporary harbor system, which had been towed to Lone Harbor from Southern Star's headquarters on one of New Potomac's outlying islands. A long line of freighters waited to unload supplies and construction materials at the already crowded port. Further inland, the first runway of the new international airport was already receiving flights, with additional runways and terminal buildings under construction.
A dozen or so mining companies were already in the interior of the islands, surveying the rich iron and bauxite deposits and beginning the staging process for their mining operations. Rough roads ran out to the mining hinterland, with more permanent concrete ribbons under construction.
Cathleen could see an oil company survey ship heading out towards Dermid Nkruma Gulf. New Potomac's rapacious oil companies were already involved in the race to exploit what promised to be a rich oil and natural gas field.
She turned to her chief of staff, a balding, middle-aged financial genius named Augustine Lee.
"How is our security situation?"
"Shaping up well" said Lee "As usual, the corps have brought their own security forces, so we don't have to worry about security in their zones. We've got our contingent of Marines to guard government buildings. The Navy has just delivered the first group of littoral patrol boats and helicopters to guard the coasts and the Air Force is basing a squadron of F-35's north of the city. We're also installing anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles in hardened positions in the hills above the city."
Unlike many of the other nations in New Scotland, New Potomac was not basing large military forces in its colony. Without any expansionistic motives, there was no need for more than a defensive force on Lone Harbor. Of course, all adult New Potomac citizens were members of the National Guard, a system based on the Swiss model. Like back in New Potomac, every adult citizen drilled monthly with the militia, and military weapons could be found in every home, a requirement of citizenship. Any potential invader would find themselves facing a determined force of citizen soldiers, dug into familiar territory and fighting with the fanatical resistance only seen in those who are defending their homes anfdfamily. Cathleen pitied any invader who came to face that.
Almost as important for its defense, the goal for Lone Harbor was that it would become an area useful to all of the New Scotland colonial powers. A neutral zone where everyone could trade, and engage in unofficial transactions between otherwise unfriendly powers.
It would be an interesting place. Of course, they first had to hook up the sewer system before a gleaming metropolis could be built......
Cathleen sighed as her mind came back to more prosaic matters.
"Get me the head of Pacific Engineering. We need to figure out what the hell is keeping the sewers from working, before we all drown in a sea of our own crap."

Grounds of Solanthus Capital City of the Imperial Colony of Cristyne
The sound of heavy transport helicopters tore through the air as the areal armada roared in.
The helicopters were that of the Imperial Army..carrying with them where men of the 346th Colonial Militia the newly formed military unit assigned to defend the new imperial colony of Cristyne....the 346th was a small military unit of only a few thousand men but they were well equipped for their colonial defense duties with advanced infantry fighting vehicles several attack and transport helicopters and an assortment of medium and light artillery...the Imperial government did not see the need for a large garrison...but the actions of other nations had not gone unnoticed and as such the 346th was equipped with more than ample supples of AA and AT weaponry as well as the expected 80 Nakil 1A1's and 100 multi role strike craft which would arrive later
However this was not a military operation, inside the helicopters bays and in some cases suspended on cables below were construction equipment and modular housing units along with an assortment of surveying equipment.
In one two special transport helicopters rode Marshal Frank Harris the newly appointed governor over the colony of Cristyne along with several other Imperial officials...
After touching down the army engineers waisted no time in unloading the several bulldozers and pavers and immediately constructed an improv runway which would accept the C-17's and C-130's already en route carrying with them more supplies and equipment..
While the runway was going about being completed other engineers set up the modular housing units and over the course of several hours a small camp was established complete with its own water supply...the Imperial flag flew over the small "town" letting everyone know the Imperial Kingdom was here to stay

+++With the transaction of land complete, Adygea found itself in possession of a sizeable amount of land and some very valuable resources to add to its collection—including two offshore oil deposits, for which bidding was still taking place amongst domestic corporations.
+++However, the platinum and bauxite mines had already been purchased, and now only needed to be surveyed before operations could begin there: those whose job it was to map the surrounding terrain in those areas boarded several ships already on their way, along with engineers and construction equipment that would be used to construct an airport at the declared capital, New Maykop. Several normal citizens, seeking to strike out on their own, were also along, with what they had deemed essential.
+++There were no military ships that accompanied the loose string of civilian transports: it was both cost-restrictive to protect the entire route or escort every transport, and it was simply not needed. The sailors who were not being deployed to the Zamperi theatre would get a little more rest.
