OOC EDIT: I'll be using this thread to accept student and faculty applications, as well as any donations you'd like to give. I do want this to be a "world" university.

WHITEHORSE, YUKON (RFP)- Roman Emperor Valerius IV Maderia and Canadian Consul Gilles Duceppe announced today plans to open a university/college combination here in Whitehorse, the capital of the Canadian province of the Yukon, called Yellowhead University.

“For far too long, people in the north seeking higher learning have had to emigrate southward, forced to leave their homes and their communities,” said Duceppe. “Some return, but most opt to remain where they are. In the meantime, the north has seen dangerous shortages in terms of skilled workers of all kinds, so this development is intended to rectify that.”

The plans call for an institution of higher learning in all fields with faculties for Math, Science, Liberal Arts, Fine Arts and History (with a specialized program in Native studies). There are also plans to build a college on university grounds to provide learning for skilled trades, with plans for many interconnected programs between the college and the university.

Valerius was on hand to announce that Yellowhead would have residence spaces for over 16,000 students, as well as 7,500 specifically for international and out-of-province students (these students can still apply for the other residences, but only if there is space available). “We envision a school not just for the Yukon, but also for the world,” said Valerius. “We want the world to know that the Arctic is more than just polar bears and snow.” Valerius then cracked, “besides, it’s too cold to do anything but study…so you know you’ll get a lot done up here.”

The cost is pegged at some $1 billion in total with plans for some 42,000 students and 4,500 faculty by 2012, although preliminary buildings and accommodations for 15,000 students should be ready by this time next year. Applications for the 2008-09 school year will be accepted starting September 1.

The Empire is pleased to see the opening of a new university. Education is the gateway to the future, we believe. Given the proximity, the Empire shall offer Whitehorse as a flight destination for Layarteb Airways and it shall seek to make an investment of $250,000,000.00 in this new endeavor of the Roman Empire. We hope that it will bring a rebirth in the educational arts and begin a new cultural exchange between the two greatest Empires in the world.

Subject: Congratulations!

Dear sir,

On the behalf of the Realm, I'm elated to learn that a new University is being established in the world. Education is a paramount part of the school of life, and places of higher learning is an important part of the educational system. I'm therefore happy to announce that the Cottish Education Ministry will encourage Universities and Colleges throughout the Realm to seek a partnership with the new University in Yellowhead, and I will personally make the arrangements neccesary to make it easier for Cottish students to be able to study in Yellowhead. This includes the establishment of a connecting flight from Juneau in Alaska to Whitehorse to allow Cottish students to fly relatively easily to Whitehorse, and the establishment of a student fund which will be used to partially sponsor the attendance fees for the Cottish students.

Additionally, Cotland is also donating a grand total of $150,000,000.00 to the University of Yellowhead, of which no less than $50,000,000.00 are to go to the establishment of student activities such as cafeterias, gyms, student welfare, et cetera, which to be spent wisely by the Yellowhead Student Welfare Organisation (or the University of Yellowhead's equivalent organisation).

I speak for the whole of Cotland when I say that I hope this endeavour brings back the enlightenment of higher levels of education and that many students will seek education at Yellowhead and become prosperous as a result. I thank the Roman Empire for enabling this on the behalf of the Cottish Academia and the many students in Cotland who will hopefully attend the University of Yellowhead in the future.

Layarteb Airways now offers Flight 889, a daily, non-stop flight from Layarteb City IAP to Whitehorse. The journey is a total of 2,890 miles and takes approximately five hours aboard a new Boeing 787-3 Dreamliner. Each flight can transport up to 330 passengers to and from Whitehorse and special accommodations can be made for Layartebian students and their belongings. On special "student-only" flights, which occur at the beginning and end of the school year, passenger capacity is limited to one hundred and eighty and the extra space is used to store personal belongings. On such days, Layarteb Airways can provide up to three aircraft for a total of one hundred and eighty projected students and their parents for this journey. The Layartebian Ministry of Education hopes to provide up to one hundred and eighty students a slot to attend this prestigious university each year. The price of each ticket can range from §250.00 to §600.00, depending on the time of the reservation and the conditions abroad. All student tickets are one-way by default and parental tickets are round-trip and usually see a stay over of twenty-four hours.
