OOC EDIT: I'll be using this thread to accept student and faculty applications, as well as any donations you'd like to give. I do want this to be a "world" university.

WHITEHORSE, YUKON (RFP)- Roman Emperor Valerius IV Maderia and Canadian Consul Gilles Duceppe announced today plans to open a university/college combination here in Whitehorse, the capital of the Canadian province of the Yukon, called Yellowhead University.
“For far too long, people in the north seeking higher learning have had to emigrate southward, forced to leave their homes and their communities,” said Duceppe. “Some return, but most opt to remain where they are. In the meantime, the north has seen dangerous shortages in terms of skilled workers of all kinds, so this development is intended to rectify that.”
The plans call for an institution of higher learning in all fields with faculties for Math, Science, Liberal Arts, Fine Arts and History (with a specialized program in Native studies). There are also plans to build a college on university grounds to provide learning for skilled trades, with plans for many interconnected programs between the college and the university.
Valerius was on hand to announce that Yellowhead would have residence spaces for over 16,000 students, as well as 7,500 specifically for international and out-of-province students (these students can still apply for the other residences, but only if there is space available). “We envision a school not just for the Yukon, but also for the world,” said Valerius. “We want the world to know that the Arctic is more than just polar bears and snow.” Valerius then cracked, “besides, it’s too cold to do anything but study…so you know you’ll get a lot done up here.”
The cost is pegged at some $1 billion in total with plans for some 42,000 students and 4,500 faculty by 2012, although preliminary buildings and accommodations for 15,000 students should be ready by this time next year. Applications for the 2008-09 school year will be accepted starting September 1.
