You have me misunderstood, they aren't the Mortars we know today, they're more like Bombards, they weigh around 180lbs and have been around since the 1600's, check it out...

Ah, I thought you were refering to tube mortars.
Why you would want to use such weapons when we have perfectly servicable howitzers its a bit beyond me, but its up to you.

Toop, since you're a republic you need to do a breakdown of political parties in your country (ex. 28% Lion Party, 4% Liberal, 10% Conservative, 2% Nationalist). Also, do a brief description of what each party stands for. Remember, there is no socialism or communism yet in E1860. Try to get this done quickly, there's an event involving political parties coming up ;).

The Kingdom of Greece wishes to establish diplomatic relations with the Toopoxican Republic

01-09-2007, 23:20
The Toopoxican Republic is interested in hearing more on furthering our relations, specifically, exactly what did you wish to propose? Would you be interested in a Trade Agreement or were you looking for something more concrete?

Signed,
Vallius M. Nival IV, Chairman of the Rostov Court, Lord Advisor to the Chancellor.

King Otto I of Greece has expressed to me his sincere intention to improve the international standing and influence of the Kingdom of Greece. In the near future, specifically, he has in mind several projects of a delicate nature which would run a little smoother with the friendship of a respected nation such as the esteemed Toopoxican Republic.

I would prefer if I could meet with yourself or a trusted aide to discuss this matter. It is representative enough of Greece's good intentions that the King has decided even to release this much information already.

Signed,
Thomas Serafeim Pantheras Athanasios, 2nd Margrave of Thessaly
Advisor to the King, Head of the Council of State

Very well then, you may tell your King that this furthering of relations is to go ahead, I myself will lead this Diplomatic expidition and in the spirit of good faith I recomend that this meeting be held in Moscow, there you can meet with the Queen personally and oversee this majestic land that you wish to ally yourself with.

Signed,
Vallius M. Nival IV, Chairman of the Rostov Court, Lord Advisor to the Chancellor.

The Most Honourable Queen Cassandra J'Lyon-Mikhainus I of Toopaxia,

Greetings,
The Imperial Government of Japan wishes to establish formal contact with the Toopaxian Republic. We believe it would be most profitable for both of our nations to establish trade, good relations and a harmonious relationship between our great nations.
While we would be pleased to send a delegation to your nation, we are somewhat hampered in this by the proximity of the Prussian Empire to your nation. If we are to travel to you, we would like to request escorts for our diplomatic mission, as we are unsure of the intentions of these Germans and whether or not their hostility may peak at an unfourtunate time.

Lord Nival,

It is with gladness that I received your positive reply. I have departed this day for Moscow, following the Pan-Hellenic Railway from Athens to Constantinople, where I will take ship to Sevastopol and from there a coach to Moscow.

I hope this letter finds you in good health.

Signed,
Thomas Serafeim Pantheras Athanasios, 2nd Margrave of Thessaly
Advisor to the King, Head of the Council of State, Ambassador to Toopoxia

Of Course, would we be supplying escorts via Sea or by Land? We have very few ships to spare and we would prefer that you made this visit via land wherever possible, I am sure that the Prussians shall not interfere if it requires the decleration of war from our goverment.

We welcome your Delegates for when they arrive, however my own presence may be distracted by other delegates in Toopoxia, for this reason I have appointed my closest Aide and ally to oversee the meeting with your officials.

Signed,
Vallius M. Nival IV, Chairman of the Rostov Court, Lord Advisor to the Chancellor.

The Honourable Vallius M. Nival IV, Chairman of the Rostov Court, Lord Advisor to the Chancellor,

We would prefer to make the jounry by sea, it would take some time and be significantly more expensive to travel through the trackless waste of Siberia, as well as the risk of attack by barbarians, such as the Turkish, Tatar and Mongol tribes that frequent the area. Equipping a caravan would be expensive, and as there are few maps, its arrival would take some time.
As such, we must choose to arrive by sea, as that trip will only take a month or so.
It is quite proper that you will wish to meet with your more trusted allies and neighbors before us, we have no objection to this.
Our delegation will depart within the week, please be prepared to recieve them.

The entrance to the Mikhainus Hotel shone like a furnace. Golden light spilt from the windows like honey, embracing the night. Snow fell lightly upon the cobbled Moscow streets as a faded red coach pulled by four horses drew to a halt outside, the door opening to reveal two black-coated figures. One of them mumbled in a foreign tongue.

The smaller man turned to the coach driver, and spoke in Russian.

"Take the coach to the rear entrance," he said, handing the high-seated man a sprinkle of tarnished silver coins. "and find a room. We may need to stay here for a few nights."

As the coach retreated into the enveloping blackness of the night, the foreigner made his way up to the front door of the Mikhainus. He paid no attention to the fur-uniformed doorman as he stepped over the threshold, followed by his translator.

The golden glow became a wall of warmth as they entered the hotel. Thick candles burned in glass bowls along the walls, and an unlit chandelier hung above red-carpeted, gold-trimmed floors and cream-painted walls. The pair approached the main desk, where a bespectacled old man was determinedly scribbling. The translator coughed politely to get his attention.

"This is the Margrave Athanasios of Thessaly, a representative of the King of Greece. We are expected."

The Clerk looked up, his wrinkled haggard face scanned the Delegates, "Yes, you are expected." The Clerk flipped through some sheets of paper, "The entire fifth floor has been reserved for your party." The Clerk turned and pulled a wax sealed letter from a box in the wall, "You have a message from his Lordship Vallius." The Clerk handed over the letter.

To Margrave Athanasios,
IndentI apologise but my services were required elsewhere, do not take this is a sign of insult for had it been any other way I would have arrived to greet your delegation, I trust that you will find your rooms suitable, without knowing prior how many of your delegates were arriving I did my best to accomodate as many as I believed would arrive.
IndentRest assured I will be present tomorrow at 10:00 AM to escort you to your scheduled visit with Queen Cassandra, once more I apologise for not being present for your arrival, I shall see you at the morning.

We too anticipate the arrival of our delegates.
One matter we wish to broach ahead of time as it is not required to be hidden from other nations is the construction of a trans-continiental telegraph system, in order to pass messages from Asia to Europe and the Near East quickly, as our present messages must travel some distance in order to reach you.
The Japanese Empire proposes the formation of a corporation owned by the various participating nations to control this system and ensure its smooth operation. Other nations would be able to invest in this corporation should it peak their interest.
This is merely for your consideration prior to our meeting, we do not expect a descision this quickly, of course.

Watanabe Kuro, Foreign Minister.

Katsu Houjo looked around his hotel room, inspecting the odd European furniture, looking out the window, and generally taking in everything he could. Europe was positivly fascinating, even if this wasnt France or England or even Germany, and the Asian aspects of the locla architecture were fairly obvious, he still liked this place. It was cool, like Hokkaido, and the surrounding countryside was nicely rural. The people were respectful enough, even if they were a little dour.
He sighed, walked across the room, picked up his Japanese to Russian manual and got back to studying. These Western languages made no sense.

Thomas Athanasios, Margrave of Thessaly, advisor to the King of Greece and head of the Council of State, fell backwards onto his bed with a soft thump, and ignored the world.

His translator, Ylli Skender, an bespectacled Albanian with a face like a dead fish, was asleep in the next room along. The fussy little man had proven bad company for the journey to Moscow, his conversation decidedly limited to his occupation. He was unmarried, though by choice rather than misfortune.

Athanasios slowly brought himself to a sitting position and disrobed. His heavy coat, thick trousers and stinking boots discarded, he lay down again and let himself slip into the warm embrace of sleep.

Today announced, a 6% minority of the population have announced they are communist, this coming just moments after the announcement of a "Communist" Party, most of the nations upper class have laughed this event off, for one the lower castes who seem to have happily joined this party fail to realise the restrictions in goverment on parties such as the Communist party, nor have they realised the fact that most lower caste members cannot vote, they do not have the power to register their vote.
