An Expansion of Expansionist policies

The Congressional hearing room had been repainted and refurbished recently, just for this event. This was a touchy issue in the Islands, and it had been vetoed by Lee Jackson Davis, then re-approved by congress, then signed by Grant Norse, then stalled in the judicial system and then revised, then voted out by congress, but then signed by Grant Norse which in the Far Echo Islands causes the bill to go back to the congress to be revised and reexamined. It was a bill to turn the Confederacy of the Far Echo Islands into the Confederate Echo Empire. And as such, expand the expansion clause of the Articles of Confederation, and enact the Second Articles of Confederation, with a more imperial clause, more power to the Grand Arbiter and the dissolving of the Senate and then a more equal representation in Congress. It had been 2 years of debate, and still no change. The Chief Justice had proposed a bill of his own to address such a touchy issue. It limited filibustering on the bill, and stated that if a decision could not be reached within one month then the vote would go to the citizens of the Confederacy themselves.

The primary arguments were as follows:

“Who else here sees this as little more than a name change?” Cries Congressman Libran Fixea. “The ‘new’ Articles are little different than the old. They just give us the right to go to war over matters of land expansion and acquisition. This whole thing should just be dropped and the time used for more important debate, like the salaries of government employees, and uh, yea, help for the poor and, uh, education, and other stuff, but mostly the first one.”

“This is a horrible idea! Who thought of this in the first place?” Begins Congresswoman Yolanda Richardson, “We broke away form the former Echo Empire and now we want to become their successor? Absolutely ridiculous!”

“This is, in direct contrast to my colleges, a most glorious idea, the Echo Empire’s flaws were of bad administration, and we could easily fix those. Look at our map now as opposed to just a few years ago, all the territory we’ve already gained. But still our cities are crowded and I say we need more. And already the bureaucracy of this nation is making it hard to manage our distant claims. This is the start of the third age of empires! We should begin now while we can!” Preaches Congressman Ulak Verndaa.

OOC: you can take one of these positions or make one of your own, there are over 200 people in this congress room at the moment, so you can take more than one, and try and establish a yea or nay position. You can come up with the names and have them say what ever you want them to (though, do make it some form of understandable English) or you can send in a foreign rep to speak at the meeting, that is allowed in the Far Echo Islands. So I’m just deciding what to do here, and I need a little help.

Kiravian Empire

Permissum Astrum Subleuco

Imperial Secriat of State

Foreign Government Office

The Kiravian Empire, a society build on its myriad colonies, provinces, and conquests, supports Echo Island imperialism, and we wish to send a representative, Sèr Volaré Coldsand, to the present CFEI and support the Imperialists.

As a word of advice:

Pure conquest is NOT the way to go. Merely conquering and ocupying territory is an unstable form of imperialism. Colonialism is a better alternative. Either build colonies in subdued or uninhabited areas, or send in Arkik colonists to build Echo cities in the lands you conquer. Adding full governmental, infrastructural, economic, and demographic Settler Colonialism strengthens your hold on the territory, as well as improves your own society.

After hearing the words of the Kiravs, many of the doubters were somewhat swayed, more and more consider the aspects of imperialism. The idea of having a more imperial government would make controlling distant colonies such as New Harbor, New Memphis, and Adĕlie City. If the 2/3 vote was there or not was still questionable.
