Tom Anderson walked out of the the front door. He stroked his blond hair and said, while wearing a red suit and a white shirt, to distinguish his rank,
"Make the carpet straight or there will be lumps!"

Several young men wearing black vests moved the strip of red fabric lying on the ground tried to fix the fabric. He fixed his tie and stood up straight, waiting to greet every arrival.

The newly appointed Thomas Thane, Grand Multi-national relations minister for the Confederate Republics of Africa came by way of helicopter. And then a domestic made white sedan. He was dressed in a plain black tuxedo with a platinum pin of a puma on the right breast. He was 32, and he was multiracial. He stood at about 1.6 metres tall. He had a clean shaven head. This was the first major diplomatic mission of his career and the nation as a whole. He was nervous, but he had always been quite calm under pressure.

"Hello," he said to someone outside the palace as the valet took his car away, his two personal security guards stood by him, "I am Thomas Thane. I represent the interests of the Confederate Republics of Africa, or the CRA, if you which to call it that. I whish to have dinner with the Prime Minister tonight; we have arranged to discuss the matters of civil rights in the world." He finished confidently.

A car pulled up. Outstretched a hand and out came Her Royal Highness Princess Ayako Suzuhara. A neko girl from Neko-Opolis who was studying abroad in Kirav. "You can leave the car."

"As you wish."

There was always talk of human rights, but nekos were usually exempt from human rights because some did not see them as human. But they were just as human, give or take a few. "Hello, I'm Princess Ayako Suzuhara, from the Constitutional Monarchy of of Neko-Opolis."

Several men watehed in awe as the helecopter actually landed in what is considered a no-fly-zone. Three police cars and eight men on bycycles came near to the landing zone.

"I hope I am able to bring the knowledge and values that we enjoy in Variabilis to the rest of the distinguished nations of the world. I am also very honored to be in the presence of great leaders as determined as I to ensure the safety and civil liberties that are the foundation of a moral society.", Atretis said. My country has endorsed an isolationist policy for the last few years, but if you have paid attention to happenings in Darfur recently, you know of our ending those conflicts and the bringing of democracy to the region. So civil rights is a big issue to us."

The dining room was rather simple, with a table and several shairs, not the one where the many balls were heald, but, nonetheless, it fit the occasion.

There were some plates of cheese and crackers on the table, along with pitchers of water.

Several butlers were walking around with various hors d’œuvres in trays.

Thane arrived in the dining room and took a seat, he had expected something a little more elaborate, but to be honest, he liked the simple yet elegant and appropriate feel of the room, it relaxed him some.

He began to nibble on the cheese and crackers, it had been about 10 hours since his last meal, and he had grown quite hungry. He tried to look as formal as he could while he ate quite ravenously. He hoped to eat before discussing human rights, but if not the cheese and crackers would hold him.

Thane was somewhat disappointed when he looked at the local clock and realized that it was only three. Ah, well he thought. When the waiter asked him if he'd like a drink he replied 'yes, just water though, with lime if you have it.' He then noticed how the man who referred to him self as Vanek was sipping a crimson substance. He wondered what it was; however, he decided to dare not ask. When no one was looking he proceeded to take his index finger and scrape his cheese dish clean with it and then lick the cheese off it as he had finished the crackers.

The man took his order and came back with the drink, while several butlers were walking around the room with trays of food in what was almost like some sort of waltz.

A door at the side opened. Standing in the doorway was a tall man in a suit with brown-ish reddish hair, and a goatee stepped out. He walked over to the taple, picked up a glass of water, and tapped it with a fork, he said,
"May, I have your attention? I am Prime Minister Flower, thank you all for coming here. Before we start, however, I wish to tell you something. This dining room is one I rend to eat at when I am in Epsom. It is not like those you see on TV, with the chandelier, it is just nice and simple. This is my personal dining room, so you will not see it on TV much, but I like to invite guests to this one if we are not holding a grand media event. That is the story I wanted to share with you."

The Charr
25-08-2007, 17:01
Heads began to turn as someone else arrived. Wearing little more than a ceremonial loincloth and a bandoleer across his enormous chest, Therik Bristlebane rose from the somewhat rugged vehicle and took stock of his surroundings with his unblinking yellow eyes. Once his large body was clear of the Humvee-like vehicle he gave himself a good shake, loosening his significant muscles and ruffling his light brown fur after his long journey. His indomitable shape, mottled fur, spiked shoulders, long, toothy snout and horned head made one thing patently clear - this was a Charr. Judging by his fur colour and mottling, not to mention his size and the shape of his horns, he was probably from the harsher regions of the Ascalonian wastelands in the north east of Tyria.

Behind him two more Charr stepped out of the vehicle, carrying between them a small statue of a ferocious-looking three-legged beast, which was set alight the moment they were outside. They were clearly his aides, and they had been given the honourary titles of Flamebearers by the Society of Flamekeepers, making them much more important than people in their position would normally be. None of them carried weapons of any kind, or anything else for that matter, aside from the flaming statue. Before the car drove off, a nervous-looking human stepped out as well, staying well behind his bigger companions. She knew how to speak English, and so could translate effectively for the Charr, whose language did not lend itself to human vocal cords. The Charr were not impressed by either her species or her gender, but at short notice she had been all that was available - though they had been making her life a misery for the whole trip with snide jokes.

Bristlebane and his companions, by setting foot in this foreign land, had joined the ranks of the few Charr to have ever left their homeland, and he for one did not look very happy about it. He had been sent here by the Council of Clans to attend this so-called 'human rights' conference as a show of defiance against the racism of its very name, though he was not entirely sure what they would gain from it nor what they hoped to achieve. As the group paced forwards quickly they all looked around for someone worth talking to.

As if on cue, a third interruption insued. A young man tore down the street, escorted by several Myrimidonts, severly hindered by their heavy armour. As he reached the conference building, he stopped for a rest. His skin was paled, his eyes' bloodshot and his uniform-like garment ruffled. Aleksey Karkofsky couldn't remember when he last slept. Noticing the welcome commitee, he drew himself into a more respectable figure.
"Aleksey.....Karkosky..." He muttered breathlessly. "I represent....the Baikov....Corp-" He stopped, drawing an intake of breath as he noticed the other arrival. Realising he was almost gaping, Aleksey returned his focus to the valets.
"I have...been sent here to....attend the Conference..by the Director." Aleksey stopped to breathe. "He is unfortunately...too preoccupied to..come in person." Bristlebane noticed the man approach them and began to talk - fortunately, Bristlebane understood English even if he couldn't speak it - and immediately turned around, impatiently grabbing the human's shoulder and bringing her to the forefront, snarling something incomprehensible at her. She defiantly shrugged his enormous clawed hand off her shoulder and scowled at him with her blue eyes, and tugged her thin white blouse back into its proper position as she turned around to smile at Anderson.

"Greetings, from the United Clans of the Charr," she said, in a strong accent that sounded somewhat similar to a combination of Italian and Arabic accents. Though she spoke English well, it was clear that she was not a fluent speaker. "My name is Amia Nequam, I translate for Charr. Introduce to you now, the great and mighty Therik Bristlebane, representing the Council of Clans, and his aides."

With that she looked back at Bristlebane who began to talk in Charrian, looking down at Anderson as he spoke, and it quickly became apparent why humans could not learn to speak Charrian, and why Charr could not learn to speak human languages. The rapid succession of growls, snarls and some indescribable sounds were beyond the vocal abilities of humans, and likewise he did not appear to be capable of replicating the sounds that a human could make. Nevertheless the language seemed quite complex. Nequam promptly began to translate his words as he spoke them.

"I do not care about the vehicle," he said simply. "Take me to the food - and tell me of when we begin the proceedings?"

"NO!" He snapped, anger temporarily overcoming exhaustion. "Eh, no i'm fine." He briefly glanced towards his Myrimidont bodyguards.
"I just haven't slept in five days." He said casually, as if it was as everday as shaving. "Also, our transport is still behind us. Being unloaded by the rest of the maniple." And then, seeing the lack of understanding in the eyes of his greeter, quickly added "60-man force."

One of them, bearing a badge revealing higher rank, walked up beside him, the rest quickly filing in behind. After a brief explanation, a valet quickly led them into the dining room. They entered in time to see the Prime Minister - what was his name again? Florence? Flower? - beginning his opening address. Quickly apologising, Aleksey occupied a vacant chair, his bodyguards forming a semi-circle behind him.

"Human rights has been an interesting issue. Certainly, there has been a lack of it in the world, something that has distressed me. My administration has focused on human rghts in the world. However, we have had a problem with attacking these violations. Many times, we have had human rights violaters prosecuted only with words full of empty promises. Unfortunately, this gives no justice to the many deaths. I want a new era, free from empty promises and the same exact violations that we have seen for centuries. We need to spread a common culture of life and respect. That is why I have invited all of you here. Now, please follow me to the conference room, so we can make some real progress."

"Yes, bottles, sparkling, flavoured, or filtered tap."

"Yes." Anderson gestured to a butler who lead the group to a dining room, when they reached there a man standing wearing a suit and tie said,

Ayako felt like a simpleton not known the major diffrences. "Tap will be great, thank you."

Stifling an exasperated sigh, Aleksey raised himself reluctantly from his seat. Fumbling in his pockets, he removed an ear piece an a pair of glasses. He wasn't expecting any calls, and his vision was perfect. The ear piece was for recording the conference, and the spectacles were fitted with a nano camera. Any information gathered from here could be crucial. Equipping himself, he fell in behind the Prime Minister. The Myrimidonts waited for only a second before doing so aswell.

Prime Minister Flower walked into a hallway, turning around so he could see if someone was missing, opened a door.

There was an oval table with several chairs around it, the Prime Minister took one at the end, he said,
"Please sit. Now there are two kinds of leaders a good leader and a great leader. A good leader makes plans, a great leader listens to others, and then makes plans. I intend to be a great leader, so I wish for everyone to tell me what their plans are and what is on their mind."

Ayako stood "Ahem, well sir....I come from a country that is well not quite human in the general sense. Me being Neko or better known as Cat-Person, I find our voices and our type of people are ignored in such areas of Human Rights. Sure we may be half-human but we are still people. We have all the organs of a person, and we have a human brain. Well anyway, I just want to ensure that I will have some vote and some say here, to make sure I can go home to tell my mother the Queen and the Prime Minister that I did good here. I hope Humans and Nekos and even Kitsune's, perhaps Lupines or wolf people as they are better known too. We are just like you, all of you and we want to have the same respect. I respect all of you right now. Thank you." She sat down

Bristlebane, Nequam and the two aides followed behind the group as they made their way through the corridors, until they reached the conference room. Upon entering the room, the two aides moved in first and placed the flaming statue a little way behind one of the chairs gently and then stood on either side of it, perfectly prepared to tear out the throat of anyone who fancied their chances of getting near it. Bristlebane meanwhile took the chair and made an attempt to sit his bulky frame in it, failing to accomplish it. Instead he tossed it behind him and sat on the floor - fortunately, he was large enough to be at the right height. Nequam recovered the chair and placed it next to Bristlebane, settling herself down in it.

Bristlebane listened intently to the words of the man so inappropriately named Flower, and then to the words of the strange, part-human cat creature which called itself a Neko. When they were done he snorted loudly.

"The very term 'human rights' is prejudiced," Bristlebane spoke aggressively, which Nequam couldn't mimic appropriately. "It implies that you creatures have a monopoly on rights. You apes claim to be tolerant, reasoned creatures of enlightenment, and then exclude any who are not as bald as you are! Anything which happens here today that does not account for those species, such as this Neko here, who have endured hardship at the hands of homo sapiens, will be nothing more than a joke!"

Aleksey regarded the Neko and the other, rather precautious, diplomat with a sense of admiration. In a society hellbent on ridding themselves of their humanity, creatures like these were considered almost godlike. He quickly stood up.
"I agree with both diplomats. Whether we would like to admit or not, a majority of we humans," He almost spat the word in distaste. "Seem to hold ourselves above these other, purer races. We are a species of evil, of greed. And that leads nicely into 'Human Rights'. In keeping with our very nature, we abuse and use these privileges. You give, they take, and then they ask for more." He sat down even quicker than when he stood up.

A Kal'Har looked at Bristlebane and spoke up "these humans deserve as much freedom as you and I" he said "and not all humans are as evil as the ones you describe. These men saved my life and the lives of the Kal'Har as a whole"

Bristlebane glanced at the Kal'Har briefly before speaking again, having never seen one before - though he had heard of them. "Quite so. I am suggesting equal rights. For everybody. As the Fiery Gods demand, any of Their creations capable of understanding honour, must be granted the respect they deserve. 'Human' rights are insufficient."

"Please, I will settle this dispute before there is any more argument, so we can get to some solutions.", Flower said, calmly, "Madame Ayako, in New Brittonia, I tend to use the term 'human', which by definition includes 'human rights' as rather loose. In New Brittonia we have had full human populations before, even with just those of the Homo sapiens species, we were very diverse. We have taken many refugees, mostly Indian and from other Muslim-majority nations in the past, and our unity government still had numerous groups of people. Red islanders, Blue islanders, British, French, Portuguese, Dutch, etcetera. Until recently, we have never had any non-humans here. However, when the Free Furry islands collapsed, we had a little over 230,000 people admitted in as refugees. They were and are still being integrated into Brittonian society. So, we have devised a solution, we put them as humans so they can become refugees and later citizens. I do consider them legally equal to humans. Basically, we will consider any sentient being that can pay their taxes as a human, understood?", with that last part, he chuckled a bit.

"Indeed," said Vanek. "I'm not even a human, though I may look like one. In my opinion, human, for this conference, should really be any sentient species. In other words, exactly what President Flower said.

"Then," Bristlebane growled. "Why do we not simply use the word 'sentient', instead of disregarding the heritage and mocking the culture of the other species present here?"

"I had not knew that diplomats from another species on earth will be here. If I was informed on that, then the naming will have been changed.", Prime Minister Flower aid, "We have had little inter-species relations, thus I was unprepared. However, I do not want the naming to be the entire topic of this event, we have more important issues to discuss."
