The colonialisation of Africa was well underway. Zimbabwe had fallen and the claiming of Malawi and Tanzania by force was well underway. The tribesmen of these lands had nothing to match the shells and rifles of the Alversian Regiments as they marched steadily forward.

Small Forts and towns had been established in order to keep control. As these areas are mostly home to Nomads, they did not really care who was in charge so long as they didn't steal Nomad cattle. The fixed Tribes began to accept Alversian Rule soon enough. Tiny Malawi was in no condition to resist any invader and so she was quickly subjegated. Tanzania proved more challenging although the mixture of Fortress towns and aggressive Cavalry Patrols soon stamped out any resistance on that front.

Alversian East Africa was beginning to take shape.

However, there were always going to be opposition and in Africa, the Alversians faced the most fearsome enemy in the whole of Africa

Zulu

Although not as techniqally advanced as the European Powers, the Zulu were famous for their savagry and war-like culture. Alversia would take many months, even years to stamp out this brutal enemy.

To do it however, they had the advantage of Forts built throughout the countryside although the Zulu were in greater number. It would be a close call for the future of East Africa.

A small Alversian supply convoy passed, it was destined to one of the fort towns builded by the Alversians.

its passage was quiet, with only the horses making noise.

it was quiet, too quiet.

in the woods nearby, the Zulu were talking.

"Umbatonga Syraho Na?" the fifty Zulu tribesman looked on their leader, talking with the Zulu scout.

"Copa, Mmla Veninc."

"Kala Nema Ooer?"

"Keka."

then their leader turned to his man.

"Yerioo. Utea, Utea!"

the fifty Zulu tribesman ambushed the small supply convoy.

its members were maybe armed with European arms, but the Zulu barrage of spears thrown at them with great skill and were deadly.

almost all of their right flank died immediantly.

upon seeing their brothers charging, the Zulu hiding west of the convoy began charging to it too.

the convoy was slaugthered, and its valuable supplies would never return to Alversian hands.

the convoy wagons carried sixty musket rifles, and few old pistols.

however, around forty raids like this were operated in east africa, and those guns.. the Zulu are fast learners.

The Zulu were certainly brave, but they were also foolish. They truly believed that the muskets would be operable in a place like this?. The old smoothbore muskets had been sent along with the brave volunteers of the 33rd Regiment, the Vultures, who had protected it. Now the brainwave could commence.

From further behind the convoy a trumpet blared and suddenly, horsemen were amongst the unsuspecting Zulu still collecting their prizes on the open road. The Captain had almost left it too late. He'd gambled on there being a second group somewhere. Now he and his men were enjoying a frightful slaughter with sabres and pistols amongst the surprised Zulus. Such an escort and such a situation could not occur for every convoy but at least the dead of this one would be avenged.

The horses did as much damage as the men who rode them. Biting and trampling and kicking the unfortunate Zulus. The Zulu could not match the skillful sword skills of the Dragoons. The 33rd's sacrafice had not been in vain. Many Zulu women would be without husbands tonight.
