Demographics and Geography:

“When an Entire people Stand by One Ideal, they are Invincible.”
Grand Admiral Ajax Sloan

When one looks upon Waldenburg they look upon a land that breeds as indestructible people, hardened by desert, mountains and barren straits. Most of the country, nearly three quarters of the land is desert, created only recently through the mass industrialization of the country. The High Desert, as it is referred to as, forms around the populated center of the country and moves out to it’s borders where the smog of pollution dies down and the green forests are present to welcome travelers. For about twenty miles before the burning desert swallows them. The country is shaped like a crescent bent around its neighbor Ibblesguard, and to the north it is sealed off by a flange of Border Guards, which steals about 800 miles of coastline from Waldenburg. Although due to pressure from His Imperial Majesty Border Guards ceded an exclave of around one hundred miles of coastline, and a passage leading through Border Guards to Waldenburg. To the south is Paloni, which also edges up taking a few miles of otherwise Waldenburger coastline.

In the center of the country lies the populated heart, nearly three quarters of all inhabitants living in the last area suitable for civilized life. To the south the Ibbleguardian Mountain range forms and rises, always extending to the west. The east of the cities there is the ocean, which provides a great deal of for Waldenburg. The only land based sustenance farming taking place is made possible by streams and rivers pouring out of the Ibblesguardian mountain range, mostly runoff from smog melted glaciers. For this farming most be efficient and mindful of the disadvantages of the area.

Only one other apparent source of fresh water is apparent in Waldenburg, the River Aspyr that snakes through the desert, and irrigates the poppies grown in the desert. It loops in from Waldenburg’s western neighbor Ibbleguard and divides the high desert nearly in perfect halves. Around that there is all that remains of old Waldenburg’s geography. Even the lush ring around the country does not compare to the beauty of the one of so mile radius out from the river, which is the nations only wildlife preserve in many areas. The area of plush is named the Rimwald, and is protected staunchly from interlopers.

It is strange that such small amounts of the country are preserved and scientists have been working on many theories to bring back the once mildly lush environment. So far the pro business government, and the massive industrial leaders of the Empire have shot down any proposal advanced.

One other safe haven from pollution is the Alumna Islands, a chain of about four hundred inhabited islands, and another two hundred open set. There most of the wealthy and the senior clergy keep beach houses and their yachts, away from the obtrusive sight of poor people. The largest island, Sador has a population of about 36,000, and an area of about 1200 Sq. KM’s. The others only get smaller and populations decrease exponentially. These islands are clustered within a tight ridge about four to eight miles of the coast, the furthest being twenty miles from the coast.

In the days when the telegraph was a vital communication form, small towns were built in advantageous spots on, what would become the telegraph and train lines running out of the country. Each town had one thousand emigrates and managed a stretch of line, beyond that they were free to do as they please. Which mainly consisted of harvesting poppy, and salvage hunting. Up until this time the desert had been mostly useless, coal could be found there in abundance, on the edges where Industrial smog had yet to kill all plant life. But what good was coal without ore, and no ocean going ships were needed without materials to trade. With, however pointless those salvage searches were they found one thing, silver, that nearly overnight tripled the GDP of the country. Silver is now cheaper then steel, domestically, but is strictly regulated to keep the price up in exportation.

Much like the country, its people are hard and burn inside. And more often then not on the outside as well, as the extremely devoted population beat a path to the stake, in an attempt to purify their horribly sinful souls. Through thousands of Church propaganda and power the idea of Divine Retribution frightens the populace more then any invading army or any horrendous plague could. The population is almost entirely white, due again to the ideals of the Church and it’s dismissive view of “lesser races.”

The majority of the population is western European in origin, and practices the culture of antiquity, created by the lords of the feudal ages. As for culture, besides the Church there is none, though religion has been taken quite a ways longer then usual. Stone the Adulteress is a smash hit for one and the most widely broadcast show in the Empire despite its very similar weekly plotline. Most facets of life in other countries, which are sex and violence, can be replaced by dramatizations of the Old Testament, in which case the perpetrators usually end up nailed upside down to bridges. There are no actors, which is also very cost effective.

Everything about life in Waldenburg for the average citizen is plain; the food is grey splats, the drinks muddy water. The word Blah Culture was coined for the country and its citizens are more then happy to sacrifice the odd strip club for watching six Muslims fighting to the death with enraged badgers.

We are the greatest and Most Noble of people, and the day the world forgets it they will be reminded most emphatically.
His Highness Prince Felix von Waldenburg

Though the Imperial arm of government runs most of the day-to-day affairs of life and government, the Holy Waldenburger Church slips in more and more power everyday. From the sprawling spires of St. Michael’s Cathedral the Church controls the most efficient group of killers and thugs the universe has ever known. Under charters and crosses fifteen trillion Reichmarks are spent every year in the efforts of keeping a population of nearly four and a half billion on the strait and narrow path.

Alone the Seat of the Holy Church, St. Michael’s Cathedral cost three trillion to build, and maps most be provided to navigate the many cloisters, and side passages. At anyone time one million people may be hearing Mass throughout its structure, connected via microphone to the High Convocation Hall, it’s self just under a kilometer long. Several of the more elderly Emperors had to be carried the last two hundred yards of their regal coronation walk. The Church’s stance is Absolutum Dominium, the towering building suggest to all that enter that this is the last place they need ever see. And with the staff of inquisitors it often is.

Spreading away from Michael’s hundreds of other Cathedral’s spring up, where as the citadel is more for the organization and running of the State’s Religious Arm, the other’s definitely conform to the needs of the everyday sinner. Besides the huge bulk of St. Michaels, commonly referred to as the citadel, where God knows what happens, the other places of worship tend to draw those actually interested in religion rather then the basic anatomy of a human being. Though mostly these country Cathedrals stay away from the darker side of religion each one maintains at least a company of the Divine Legion, an elite team the was originally a fighting order of knights but now, performs a Bishop’s will inside his own Bishopric. The Church is frightening but it still takes a very minor role in civic affairs, only challenging the Imperial government in the Justice System and land laws. For the most part the Church operates on it’s own private property, and is usually above the local law, and in most cases is local law.

Besides being divided into Counties and Duchies and such like, the country is dividing into Bishoprics and special plots of land named Cardiums, the special plots bought for those who govern the Church. Some of the larger Bishoprics and Cardiums are:

Blünderburg (St. Michael’s, Cardium)
Strienlikstern (Cardium)
Plotz (Bishopric)
Ibbleguard (City, Cardium)
Ibblestern (Bishopric)
Dvelenburg (Cardium)
Scant (Bishopric)
Rimwald (Cardium)
Sador (Cardium)
Mintasburg (Cardium)
Innwald (Cardium)
Skinter (Bishopric)
Flienhurtlinburg (Bishopric)
Apsin (Hereditary Barony, Currently Cardium)
495 Cardiums It Total
1880 Bishoprics In Total Including those of the Archbishops

“Your Majesty we have had in place for the longest time a large volume of conspiracies in which to remove the more troublesome Heads of State of Europe, I’m sorry to say yours involved strippers, pancakes and a very small amount of twine. Although possibly only one stripper if times were hard.”
Heinrich Albemier, Minister of Information

The Imperial arm of government has seen plotting and devious emperors, power mad giggly fools, and pleasant old men who enjoyed breakfast, which turned out to be a very large mistake, outdoors. To that extent government has always changed with their moods a bureaucracy of immovable clerks had to arise to prevent the shift between charming to delightfully insane. There are so many offices, that if the Emperor were to take an interest he would be dead from exhaustion within a week. Administration doesn’t really need to exist in Waldenburg as the Holy Church already keeps most citizens on both the civil and religious correct path. The office though still rose up and in statistical overkill every minute of every second of the average persons life is planned from conception to death, the government is there.

Taxes are levied by at least eight different ministries and counted by another three. In essence the entire non-royal section of government is completely useless. Though there are, as stated, hundreds of offices they all perform the same tasks as these ministers listed:

Presiding: His Most Gracious Imperial Majesty Wyatt von Waldenburg IV
Minister of Economics: The Rt. Honorable Prein von Steddlehausen, (OIH)
Minister of Education: The Rt. Honorable Frederick von Fallenstien, (OC)
Minister of Agriculture: The Rt. Honorable Jeffery Ipphousen, Baron of Ket
Minister of Royal Affairs: HRH Prince Andre von Waldenburg
Minister of Foreign Affairs: The Rt. Honorable Rupert Fry, (OIH)
Minister of Information: The Rt. Honorable Felix von Troddenhiem, Mr.
Minister of Overseas Development: HI Peter Rent, (Cardinal of Ibblesguard)
Minister of the Home Office: The Rt. Honorable Franklin Reinz, (Viscount)
Minister of Colonial Affairs: HG Edward von Waldenburg, (Duke of Gretz)
Minister of Imperial Affairs: The Rt. Honorable Albert Feendow, Mr.
Minister of Trade: HE George Patrin, (Count of Melldenburg)
Minister of Sciences: The Rt. Honorable Howard Mortenson, Mr
Minister of Interior: HG Edward Thousis, (Lord Mayor of Blünderburg)
Minister of Commerce and Industry: The Rt. Honorable Elizabeth Trenton, Mrs.

The government operates out of the Imperial offices in Strienlikstern, and drives the country on the national level, while a system of aristocracy and of course the Church implement the laws locally. Of course no one actually pays attention to laws they do not approve of and are usually never strictly enforced by the Emperor.

Every ten years a convention is called of every lord, and landholder responsible for the enforcement of the local law. This is called the Triumphal Convocation; usually this spurs on law enforcement for a year of so before the enthusiasm dies and all the local lords go back to stuffing their pockets. In theory it is within the Emperor’s power to do literally anything, he can declare war, seize land, write of documents of ennoblement, raise taxes, order murder, and change laws at his very whim. Only for that reason did such a sprawling government form, when one man can control the destiny of your continent you must do your very best to secure the fact that that man never sees his power or comes out of the palace. Huge savings could be made by reductions but of course only the Emperor could make such cuts, for which he would have to find the ministry of the Interior for which he would need access from the Ministry of the Home office, for which the Minister of trade would have to verify. Accredited to this is the slow speed at which Waldenburg changes it’s outdated laws.

Royalty, Nobility, Aristocracy, and Titles

“You pompous fool. You foolish little bastard!”
Bautzuonian Minister Walter Higgens to Prince Felix von Waldenburg

As in many nations the power is behind the throne in Waldenburg with a large section of is it disappearing into the hands of local lords who enforce it, as they will with no set concordance with any other noblemen. Still the system flourishes as the populace become more engrained with the semblance of piety presented by they’re masters. Along with the obvious advantage of being more likely to be chosen for governmental work and passing laws the rights of nobility entitle you to as stated in the Waldenburger Constitution: “Raise and levy soldiers in the defense of our Empire and the Church which temporally we have been tasked to protect.” Each man even with the meanest of titles is allowed to raise a private army so long as it is done for the ‘good of the people’, which in reference to the common understanding of the word people, in assistance to anyone worth over two hundred thousand a year.

Still most of the hereditary title bearers do not even bother with the fiddly tasks of in fighting and prefer to live in their manor houses and work their constituency to death. Though the Emperor can grant both hereditary and life titles most of the life titles are sold at auction while the feudal titles are given to those who actually serve. Of course due to the Emperor’s quasi power all nobility answer to him politely and obey all direct and personal decrees to the letter or face a terrible death. Again it is a flawed system that would not stand a minute in a modernized country, but works well enough with terrified peasants.

The aristocracy, and their relatives makes up about 1% of the population, and effectively with the 2% in the Church and Imperial Circle rules the entire population of the country with such efficiency that they are allowed 60% of the GDP without complaint. All major business and industry not owned by the Church or Imperial Courts, is almost naturally in the hands of their Lordships who probably handle it better out of greed then any man out of good intentioned management.

Also noted in the Constitution is the forming of the Imperial Circle, six permanent positions, held by the most powerful hereditary lords, and four interchangeable ones. It is unknown what the Circle does but they are often in direct contact with the Church at their informal meetings, and have often been seen in the presence of the Divine Legion. Traditionally they were to discuss the freedoms of the peasantry and conclude a course of action to better the life of all those under their charge, this is obviously not the case. The current members of the Imperial Circle are as Follows: (To be classified by Title, Name, Status in Peerage and Status on Council in that order)

Presiding: His Most Gracious Imperial Majesty Wyatt von Waldenburg IV
Archduke Leopold von Waldenburg (Hereditary, Permanent)

Economy and Industry:

“Damn you sir, that is our Peanut Butter!”
Major Jacon Hartlieb, Eighth Chukacon War

As hinted in the environment section the highly industrial, sprawling industry of Waldenburg is big enough to poison the country and spoil its partial beauty. After the finds of silver in the late 1870’s the country changed from corporate agriculture to a sprawling industrial and mercantile complex. Mineral wealth, though still mostly unattainable in the High Desert, and Mountains fueled the modern economy and drove it, despite the disadvantages of the country. It was taken forward kicking and screaming, it’s feudal system completely unprepared for the massive finds of silver, iron, oil, coal and most base metals. The region however had no industrial power, as other nations in the area were moving at an altogether slower pace. A high unemployment rate and, the supreme power of the Emperor and his Church allowed the Imperial Court to simply inject the resources with the people.

By technicality it would have been slavery, as the workers were simply removed from their previous positions and slotted into the new markets of manufacturing. Factories sprang to life at hundreds a week as thousands of eager shovels tore up the steppe lands, that would eventually become the High Desert after the strip mining and pollution had taken it’s effect. Still life only slid down hill as the management sector slipped through legislation on the bonding of workers to their posts allowing for possibly the only feudal Industry in existence.

Unfortunately for Waldenburg the remainder of the region caught on and instead of purchasing high priced finished goods, from the Waldenburg Industrial complex they began to form a tight, and more efficient cooperative industry with foreign powers in an effective mercantile system which, though still high priced began to raise the standard of economy in the region from farming to manufacturing.

Because of this the first of a series of long and pointless wars began, called the Grey Wars, of in Waldenburg the Chukacon Wars. Each side fought with industrial might, or at least it’s perceived industrial might, and rained consecutively more deadly treats on one another. These wars acted to solidify the power base of the Corporate Lords, who without them the military manufacturing would have been left to honest management, which is never a quality looked for in wartime. At any rate the rich became richer and now the factories continue to belch out smoke, and ruining the traditional pastime of the farming community.

Considering the fact that all cities and farming are all compressed within the 8% of mainland that is still capable of growing most crops it would seem that Industry would be moved away from this area to create room for the vital farming. Unfortunately no, though there has been some fairly successful petitioning for the movement of the factories to the barren lands outside of the cities, but so far that has had limited effect. It is expected that if the current trends will continue the country will lose one quarter of it’s 2040 population to starvation. It is the most pressing problem to the country at the moment as even now, the seas are being drained of fish and the farms become ever more pressed together.

Luckily though there are many foods in the Empire that are quite rare and are usually traded overseas to those who are willing to lend a hand. Such things as Saffron, Poppy, Temjeki (A sort of Mango Honeydew thing) are grown in the desert and fetch quite a price on the open market. Rare items also pour in from the Allumna Islands that otherwise change a very dull diet. Even then though it is to little far to late.

History Relocated

The Holy Church

“Waldenburger Vires Ut Deus Palma”
Waldenburger Seal (Waldenburger Might To God’s Glory)

Terms:

Council of Bishops: Every decade all 4345+ Bishops, archbishops and Cardinal gather for the grand meeting of the Churches hierarchy. Here they discuss doctrines to be evolved, and the problems facing the Church. Every year to date there has been a fistfight, and the televised parts draw quite the following of watchers. The Council traditionally lasts a month and any member can propose his ideas. All charges of spiritual crimes are dismissed when in the Council, there is no idea to far fetched or blasphemous to be heard. The Cenobiarch does not take a very active role, of all clergy he is the only one not allowed to speak, other then in opening and closing the Council. Despite it’s decade annuity, there is a much smaller Council, of three hundred operating everyday in the same capacity. The three hundred are elected at the last full council to serve in the interim. The Emperor and the Cenobiarch can call the council into existence in a state of emergency.

http://www.franklinhotelrome.it/vat_pics/vatican2.jpg
Daily Meeting of the Council of Bishops

Cenobiarch: Meaning a leader in common, the Cenobiarch in the temporal and spiritual head of government. Though the Church is a democracy he is it’s Prime Minister, where he goes the rest will follow. Traditionally the post in held by the Cardinal of Blünderburg, although this statute has been relaxed more recently. He crowns the Emperor and may refuse to do so, although his anointing ceremony is an amazing affair, inside the massive St. Michael’s Cathedral.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/galleries/vatican/images/6.jpg
The Cenobiarch's Solarium, St. Micheal's Cathedral

Home Office: An archaic and insulting term used for St. Michael’s. It refers to the massive investigative power and, sway the Church has, acting as easily an arm of government.

Dark Guards: Refers to the inquisition and darks deeds they must perform to protect the Church.

DL: Divine Legion the openly militarized arm of the Church.

Hundreds of skirmishes, dozens of treaties, and millions of deaths have attempted to topple the Church from its power. None of them have ever accomplished more then a faint dent in the Holy Church’s infinite power. It’s Bishops continue to be the only court system Waldenburg has, with justice hanging on the fickle moods of sexually deprived old men. Trials usually end in guilty, with “to death by torture” not far off anyone’s mind.

The day-to-day affairs are generally the business of the Cenobiarch, and his minor Council of Bishops. Mass is held everyday and unless working, everyone is required to attend or listen via radio. Thousands of priests are trained every year through the system of Theological colleges set up across the empire. Churches are the most accessible public building in the Empire far outweighing both hospitals and schools.

Each county is divided up into two parishes, six counties form a bishopric. Four bishoprics form an archbishoprics, and for archbishoprics form a Cardium. Only the Archbishops merit cathedrals on a given basis, the others must either inherit them or build their own, which is quite possible with the incomes of the cloth.

It is a very confused system when it comes to the clergy, and it’s relation to the Empire, though it is a despotism, it is a democracy, though it is a theocracy it is an Empire. The entire system functions on the basis of mutually assured destruction, each side building itself more powerful devices and servants. Up till recently the Empire has had no time for external affairs, but now with the Cenobiarch and the Emperor finally in agreement on outward expansion, things are bound to change.

It’s members however are extremely benefited by the favorable position, as funding for the Holy Church comes after only law and order and defense. The Cenobiarch, who directly control those funds in the wealthiest man in the Empire, constructing Palaces and Cathedrals across a massive empire and the world, in the past the right has often been abused by more unscrupulous men.

The Ranks of the Holy Church are as Follows in Precedent of Greatest to Least: It should be noted however that any of the titles may be affixed with noble titles such as “Prince Archbishop\ Archduke Cardinal ect.” Technically holds no sway over ecclesiastic ranks but is considered by most to mean elevation.

Cenobirach
High Cardinal (Secretary of the Council of Bishops)
Canonarch (Church’s Foreign Affairs minister)
Cardinal
Patriarch (Imperial Palace’s Confessor)
Archbishop
Proctor of the Holy Church (Emperor’s Titular Holding)
Palatinus (Record keepers of the Church)
Senior Bishop
Archpriest (Special Rank Used Only in the selection of Three Clergymen for the annoitment and consecration of the Cenobiarch)
Bishop
Abbot
Maphrin (Highest Rank in the Monastic System)
High Inquisitor
Prelate (Specialist Devoted to the Administration of Spiritual Law.)
Archdeacon
Inquisitor
Ordained Priest
Deacon
Rector
Monks or Nuns of Various Orders
Friars
Novices\Alter\Choir Boys

The precedent is strictly enforced and considered a nearly indestructible feudal system. Most of the lower orders work under strict vows of silence, devotion or indolence, to stem the spread of dissent and criminality amongst the Church. Usually as the Inquisition is a key member of the lower ranks there in no need but old traditions die hard in the oldest of Imperial institutions.

Inquisition: The police of Waldenburg, though obviously performing an important mission, have no where near the sway and dread of the Inquisitorial guards. An army of sinless, invisible shadows rooting out heresy, and evil. Their numbers top at around 115,000 supported by local police and military, they are called by the local bishop, if his fears can be validated a squad will be sent to drain away the life around the evil. In the cities the Inquisition can act in public and is usually bade to do so. Physical torture is common place and some more arcane ideas are being put into practice.

The dark guard are most commonly known for the large black SUV’s which they employ. It is very safe to say, because of the negative connotations of the Inquisition, no civilian owns a black SUV and the vehicles are often bowed to in the street. The Churches motto was created by the Inquisition, it’s most unaccountable and dangerous arm.

Inside the Council of Bishops several inquisitors hold a permanent seat, though an Inquisitor cannot rise through the ranks to Cenobiarch, he is more then capable of trying and executing of nearly anyone of the country, including Cardinals and Imperial Princes.

A very important aspect of the Waldenburger mindset to grasp is the deference of the state. Most crimes committed in the Empire now are spiritual; an overwhelming majority of the wrongs are committed at the hands of Muslims. Of course new doctrines can be added at any time and thousands arrested in one go for a relatively unheard of crime, but for the most part all laws are followed.

The Inquisition, though having quite some difficulty with the entire debacle of Felix Albemier and his many attacks against the Church, perform more arrests then the military police and metropolitan police combined. Their numbers however are serious depleted as of late and the security of the country, once proven by hard statistics that the Church was more effective, are being handed over to more competent men of the police and military. For the first time Waldenburg is being faced with an internal threat, “where an army dare not tread I walk with impunity” Felix Albemier is reported to have said. The assumption that all laws will be obeyed is slowly being disbanded, and technology is beginning to force its way into law enforcement.

Needless to say many Church officials are livid about this affront to their power, their private police force being marginalized for the state’s own well oiled machine. It is currently being debated if another arm of the Divine Legion may be formed for the routing out of heretics abroad, which of course there is an endless supply. So far the only stumbling block is that people outside may object, or course this is very difficult to do while stapled upside down to public architecture. If it should be granted every Church in the world will become militarized and the checks and balances will not be able to hold back the storm of violent old men.

Military

“Waldenburg shall not survive unless it bears itself to its weapons, and arms it’s doves against a sea of hawks.”
Letter to the Ingonitans

In the efforts of countering the Church the Imperial army has always maintained a strong presence, especially should the populace realize their hugely oppressed status in comparison to other more, socially advanced nations. Being in front line combat forces is voluntary, although most people are coerced into service, while the logistical and national defense forces are filled with conscripted forces. Waldenburg’s main priorities are defense and religion, which builds a strong nation. It’s main concern is the control over the Church going population, which should it be maintained requires a large infantry based contingent of shock, and storm troopers. Mobility has never really been an issue as the country is filled with troopers and the main issue has been firepower, and the way to best utilize it in precision strikes, and anti insurgency operations.

A secondary concern and the main offensive doctrine of the Imperial army is the Rolling Thunder method. Where it artillery and massive mechanized assaults are used to clear an area while the infantry occupy and pacify. Again this doctrine springs from antiquity, mainly the campaigns in the Ibblesguardian mountain chain, where one fortress can block the advance of an army for months. The Break up’s and positioning of the armies are as follows.

Field Army: 10,000,000 Combat Troops
Army Group: 1,000,000 Combat Troops
Army: 250,000 Combat Troops
Army Core: (Based upon the UK regimental basis of raising bodies of soldiers from a specific area. And seeing as how our populations are all so very large, the date as well. Usually between 50-125 thousand men.)
Brigade: 50,000 Combat Troops
Division: 25,000 Combat Troops
Corps: 10,000 Combat Troops
Regiment: 2,500 Combat Troops
Battalion: 1,750 Combat Troops

(All army groups are composed of the following unless otherwise specified)
20% Shock and Storm Troopers
15% Light Infantry, Skirmishing Infantry

Nuclear Defense and Dissent\Prisoner of War Policies:

The entire policy of the nuclear arsenal is dictated by the Council of Bishops as, “Counter Productive in our eternal mission in the preservation of human life, and the redemption of the soul to the one true path to God, laid down by the Holy Church.” Mass exterminations, when they do happen, are much more selective, and through the wishes of the Council of Bishops never conducted through the use of ICBM’s. Waldenburg has in the past been known to use Biological warfare in the spreading of small pox and other such contagious diseases. That is the only case and example of Waldenburg using a nonconvetional weapon against it’s enemy, it has never taken part in chemical or nuclear armament. The most Waldenburg could manage, as it had never needed such weapons, is a nuclear waste bomb, borne by conventional bombing methods.

Though the country does export all necessary components for the production and firing or nuclear warheads, they have never been sought after by Imperial High Command and never utilized by any faction or group within the Empire. Nor does Waldenburg posses any orbital bombardment capabilities, of the nature of God Rods, or any projectile weaponry in orbit. Admiral Ajax Sloan has constantly pushed for armament but most in the Imperial Government refuse to listen to such nonsense.

Unfortunately for their Graces in the council, others do not view the orbital destruction of their enemies a bad thing. The official Doctrine of Defense is “Their All Bastards.” Beautifully laid out by the Council, a near impenetrable missile shield protects the country from all outside ballistic of orbital attacks. It is widely unproven but has already shot down, three unarmed rockets aimed at Blünderburg. It is considered one of Waldenburg’d very few contributions to warfare, and stays in line with both Policies of the Church on such matters.

This is not to say that human rights violations are not in existence, in fact they are quite commonplace, there is at least one public execution a day, usually at the hands of the Holy Church. Most criminal violations are spiritual in nature, ranging from sodomy to the breaking of vows of ordained clergymen. No one is safe from these laws, not diplomats or tourists. Wherever the flag of Waldenburg waves it’s laws are enforced strictly through the use of any tortures, publicly if possible. All field armies, or wherever Waldenburg is in a powerful position, the inquisition will begin rooting out heresy and the taint of sin. This has been a most controversial method of pacification and has been brought up internationally many times to no avail. Any of those who live within in the tight bounds of the Church’s moral course is quite safe, though those who do not conform always die, diplomatic immunity, armed protection do not figure into the spectrum of human rights. Borders mean nothing as almost all justice in divined through the courts of the inquisition.

Prisoners of war who have not taken the sacraments or been baptized are executed on the spot, or moved to concentration camps. Any noncombatants captured within a war zone, who again do not profess the faith are considered in league with the enemy and moved to concentration camps. Any of those who attempt escape or resistance are tortured publicly and their family moved to concentration camps. Any animals in league with the enemy or heretics will be summarily executed, their bodies burned. All funds and private possessions of those found guilty of opposing the Church, will be liquidated to pay private debts or seized by the Church. At any time during their arrest a supplicant may profess the will to convert in which case they shall be given to a monastic order according to their gender and skills, and allowed to assimilate. Above all, there are no exceptions.

Tactics and Doctrines:

"I was thinking we could form a big line and charge them?"
Admiral Robert Kennedy 3rd Grey Way

Absolutum Dominium

“There is no defense against the berserker, no axe to batter the soul, no shield to prevent break the spirit of the warrior. Our weapons are not of metal, but of the steel and resolve of our faith.”

Originally created as a martial art, which is still practice today, causing slightly more confusion then is useful, Absolutum Dominium (From Now Referred to as AB or as full name) is the practice of complete war, physically, Mentally and through the almost Waldenburger specific, the soul. Every aspect of culture is revised into a weapon, every opera conducted to the underlying tune of “Smash the heathen” every television show bombarding the viewer with constant malign assertions on the virtue of the opposed. Hate, as a defining form of humanity is already in place and the mere channeling of it into a society is child’s play.

During the Pontifical wars, and a majority of early civil wars, the doctrine was used extensibly in campaigning, mostly in a drumming of nationalism amongst the peasants, into a unified fighting force, where the enemy has no hope of assistance. Over time it has evolved, as the Church’s power waned and the Imperial Court, and nobility began to take power, actually preparing battle plans instead of taking 50,000 men and trying to storm things.

A prime example, although very loosely documented, was the Eighth Grey War. This war fought between Chukacon and Waldenburg was a continuation of the larger wars of the past, Waldenburger hate, and homophobia the fuel of the fire. AB evolved to mean the “absolute domination” of all aspects of warfare. Waldenburg, whose mindset was already to the insane style of warfare, found it easy to adopt. When following the directives of AB the entire nation attacks till there is nothing left to attack with. When one is attacked they must either defend or be hit, upon that basis the theory is made.

When Waldenburg attacks with planes, they must be countered with planes or anti aircraft, the enemy options of movement have been stymied by fast action. Should Waldenburg turn to a defensive (Which it’s armies and geography are actually much better suited for) then it leaves itself open to uncertainty. The opposing nation, with free forces, now may assault in any direction with any nature of weaponry. The options of failure have opened massively, and uncertainty and possibility have taken the place of more controllable factors. Though these attacks should not be taken for military ineptitude, often times there are quite intricate strategies being performed underneath the slaughter.

On occasion actual warfare is not even necessary, more often then not a battle can be concluded without actually firing a shot. If diplomatic means can allow a more crippling blow then any army then it is the appropriate venue. Though not specifically stated in it’s original conception AB includes causing uncertainty for the enemy, turning former allies into enemies is a prime example, using supposed strengths, such as an impregnable fortress, into weaknesses, by trapping thousands of men inside. Such an action would create uncertainty for Waldenburg as they are still capable of functioning, and is often ignored in specific by Old Guard Generals.

In the Eighth Grey War, Waldenburg manufactured both weapons and reasoning for war.

1. “Chukacon is a foreign nation, if we are to believe what the priests tell us, they are all sodomizing bastards.” The ideal of uncertainty is not one that comes easy to any creature, where is the next meal, where is shelter ECT. The status quo is usually preferred to the uncertain.

2 “We are a most Illustrious and noble people, God smiles on his chosen.” The concepts of justice and truth are the most obvious virtues, and as often said the first casualties of war. Virtue is however created by war, ideals and justices assembled by the point of view of each combatant. If the war is won that the ideal of “We are an invincible people,” is maintained, and if the war is lost all those capable of such thoughts will be in no position to offer such views on account of being dead. The by products of war, proverbial nationalism, in all forms is the greatest weapon.

Ajax Sloan made the comment “When one people stand behind a single ideal they are invincible.” That is the skills of every farmer, miner, doctor, teacher, sailor, merchant, manufacturer, and priest all combined to form a war machine that with the support and intelligence of the state. Anyone acting out of that loop in wartime is an “Unstable Uncertainty”, a wild variable and taken care of. Taken care of in a manner, which also reflects prisoners of war and all foreign nationals.

The greatest amount of security can be provided when there is no possibility of harassment. Therefore all prisoners taken in battle will be shipped home for the purposes of enforcing the ideal of military strength then immediately executed. Again a factor has been eliminated, the possibility of escape or rescue has been nullified, a combat unit destroyed with no fear of reformation. Honor too has been satisfied. While it is considered unmanly to kill a prisoner, it is perfectly acceptable to kill a coward, to kill a cur, who will not face his fate. As in Waldenburg it is believed all fates are predetermined, then obviously this man was born to die in this fashion, the ends always justifying the means. Internationally this may be unaccepted but should there be complaints, that is only viewed as a foreign weakness.

On the more military side this is why Waldenburg prefers infantry. The enemy is always identified from the end of a bayonet and should infantry be allowed to take control of a battlefield there is only so much an enemy may do to flee. The term however stretches from the grand strategies all the way to squad based situations and encompasses all actions taken in driving actions. Artillery is used to drive the enemy into a channel, where it is then crushed with armor. Specifically it is difficult concept to describe but is the domination over the enemy and the utilization of every advantage, through the sacrifice of defense.

When the nation is attacked in a certain point it may be rest assured that the Bactrian Folding Defense will be holding together the border. If you insert an army it will be nearly surrounded within in minutes of reaching it’s location, and another, far more impressive army shall be streaming out for a counterattack against a more valuable military target. This manner is as close to mutual assured destruction as it is possible to come without the use of nuclear weapons, if Waldenburg does not win, then is a sense neither shall you.

Bactrian Defensive Deployment

Developed after the first battle of Vindelmar the Bactrian Folding Defense was developed by General Walehouse as he lead around 45,000 marines against four hundred thousand Chuckonian naval infantry. The battle was the culmination of the Third Grey War, the first technologically oriented war, where each side refrained from pouring on resources whilst relying on superior naval power to force each other’s Army Groups into forced deployments and fighting retreats.

The Battle of Vindelmar began as Half a million Waldenburger marines began an island hopping campaign, fighting a bloody series of battles in order to seize a vital island chain leading to the Chuckonian mainland. Ordinarily the islands were to be bombarded and burned, however with artillery placements on each island the enemy fleet could be penned in effectively. Swift fleet movements allowed for the deployment or hundreds of thousands of men with minimal casualties into the folding line. The ratio of island to man, along with casualties allowed for only a small force per island with a substantial naval force on call. Chuckacon made several thrusts taking several islands breaking the Waldenburger lines. Each break in the line could not be effectively utilized as the shore bound artillery allowed for Waldenburger autonomy in movement within a certain range.

When General Walehouse order a counter attack, attacking far to the south in a hope of cutting of Chuckacon’s supply line to their recently retaken island. Unable to hold the island Chuckonian Field Marshall Boris Kronin order several sorties on the Waldenburger islands, whose strength had been drastically weakened. Both attacks succeeded and supply lines were cut in every direction, nearly twenty Waldenburger battleships were now behind enemy lines with 50,000 Naval infantry. Eventually in a fly by night sprint the fleet escaped sinking Chuckonian Flagship CIS Khrone’s Wrath.

The naval retreat alone is worthy of note as it was perhaps the most successful operation of the war. Boris Kronin, whose battle fleet was to far stretched to be of any use, could only manage a cloud of aging destroyers and armored cruisers, commanded by the Khrone’s Wrath. Instead of running fighting, the Waldenburger fleet used the enemy as cover, as the twenty-inch guns that had so recently been Waldenburger could do far more damage then a few destroyers. In a zig zag pattern the fleet fled never once coming under fire from the shore for fear of the gunners hitting their own ships. At the last moment however the enemy flagship barreled in, dividing the retreat and successfully sinking two battleships before being suck itself.

Only one Waldenburger position remained in the island chain, Vindelmar under the personal command of General Walehouse, with only a hand full of infantry, and supplies for only a week. It looked desperate, and as the Waldenburger fleet was escaping Chuckacon was preparing an invasion force of four hundred thousand for a counterattack into Waldenburg Proper. Walehouse whose resources were hugely limited created the Bactrian folding circle, similar to the folding line that had been used on a grander scale previously in the island chain. Vindelmar was, before a massive bombardment later, a slightly elevated, about forty feet above its lip, and gently covered in a humid jungle. Around the island Walehouse formed the circle which was a lopsided circle tapering to fit inside the jungle line where necessary. On the circle he created a point every four hundred feet, each one outfitted with a machine gun at it’s far point and forty men to form a triangular spike. With the taper of the island, and elevation of the circle the enemy could not approach easily. If they directly attacked the machine gun, well they are directly attacking and entrenched machine gun. If they attempt a flank in any direction they are between two spikes of the formation and the main circle itself. If they attempt a flanking charge they must pass directly under machine gun fire, and then turn their back to another spike. Any attack made on the defensive line will be facing approximately
250 degrees of fire, a majority on their flank.

In the center of the ring, bunkers had been dug for the senior staff and artillery erected. The jungle had been cut down in certain places to erected a small defensive wall around the circle. The deforestation had been preplanned as it left four directly cut paths, nice open areas that were easy to walk through, with all the bracken, leaves, unsuitable wood piled up in the forest on either side of the path. Any charging force would take that path or slow their advance by half through dense undergrowth.

The second form of the Folding line appears now. On the front line is the Infantry of the line, skirmishing infantry, guard divisions and heavy weapons team; they formed the core of the defense. Arrayed in diagonal line running vaguely parallel, but again tapering at the source, the center command bunker, to allow for multiple horizontal tier fire to the precut trails are the dismounted cavalry. As Waldenburg thought they would be needing cavalry for the invasion of the mainland they had packed some aboard, long since the horses had been set to roam, and would eventually be slaughtered for the last stand. Along with the dismounted cavalry are the Divine Legion Guard and a crack regiment of Highland Guards, who had given up their ammunition and opted for broadswords.

Forces were divided up to the point of: 35,000 on the defensive circle, 10,000 forming the supporting struts and guarding the path, and additional 5,000 logistics, officers, and artillerymen forming the center core.

It is unknown why Chuckacon after testing the defense did not proceed to bombard the island straight off. The twenty-inch naval guns could outdo most of the battleship’s weapons true, and would in all likelihood have taken several of the enemy down with them, but the slaughter they perused instead made the losing of a fleet look trivial.

On May 20th the first enemy troops, 6,000 heavy infantry supported by grenadiers landed and attempted to breach the defensive line. With the lack of ammunition in mind the land forces allowed all enemies to begin the charge up the light slope before unloading. Each machine gun with approximately a 60 degree firing capability drove enemy platoons in between the spikes where cover was limited and fire was plentiful. The term folding line was coined by the 25th each spike was overwhelmed before the battle ended at one point or the other, and a majority, was taken back. If one spike is occupied it is then opened up to still 250 degrees of fire with very little cover. Chuckacon’s troops poured into one and were suddenly without cover, elevated and surrounded by enemies, with so many firing angles.

Needless to say it was Waldenburger lack of ammunition that eventually won the day for the attackers. But only after 200,000 casualties, admittedly most were executed by the Divine Legion after they surrendered, as food was hard enough to come by. On June 3rd the naval bombardment began and the islands’ artillery performed dismally as it had pent most of its ammunition the guns teams were starving, and dead bodies had brought disease. Even with the defensive ring most of his men had died in the infantry assaults. On June 5th Walehouse surrender with 8,000 troops who were promptly executed, the island then set ablaze.

The tactic, whose major foil is artillery or air attack now, is still quite apt. Several of the more defensible mountain fortresses are designed in a spiked circle, with narrow causeways lading to the keep. Ideally now heavy weapons, mainly for the dispatch of armored units will be placed at the tip or indeed wherever they can be found. It is a very effective doctrine at foiling infantry, and indeed most terrestrial attacks. Along with a strong artillery core and air defense it can hold indefinitely depending on the number of men and nature of weaponry. Through this example the Bactrian Circle is obviously more suited to hold in tight positions, at strengths differing from platoons to standard brigades at suggested moss. In circle form is was created on the regiment basis and worked excellently.

OOC To be elaborated on, and more added later, for now though I have to riddle through adobe.

Imperial Navy

When the Imperial Navy began it was not expected to be a major function of warfare, as until fairly recently there was little resources to build and support a modern navy, at any time period. Therefore it came as a large shock to find iron cheaper then food, naturally, after such an event the navy became a very affordable arm of the military. Old traditions die hard though, and despite there are no souls to keep clean two
hundred miles at sea, the navy is directed to the tactic of heavy surface guns.

The submarine, is seen through the eyes of the more old guard admirals, as being to much of a coward to look your enemy in the face and throw slug at one another. The carrier was only recently accepted, and grudgingly at that. Modern warfare does not catch on quickly in Waldenburg but the admirals were only too happy to accept bigger and better ways of throwing metal, and faster ships. At this point in time there is no ballistic submarine fleet, and no capability of long range nuclear projection.

While most of the cabinet and Imperial admiralty remain in the past, Grand Admiral Ajax Sloan, the nominal commander of the fleet continues to push for modernization and expansion. Most of the Commanding Council of the Imperial Navy are quite happy o deal with the least amount of hassle available to their office, and are quite content to allow the other branches of the military to take precedent. Recently though, through the purchase of ten Poseidon Class Submarine Carriers the navy is starting to fully modernize, under Admiral Sloan’s steady gaze.

Naval Tactics and Doctrines:

Langdon's Last Detail

As it’s names suggests the strategy was first practiced and adopted by Captain Harold Langdon of the Waldenburger Imperial Navy during the Second Grey War. It is a strange doctrine one, which does not in theory, exist, for the main purpose of it is not to have a battle, at least a conclusive one.

When three hundred heavily armed capital ships and their squadrons burst through a hastily readied defensive line around the Allumna Islands in 1866 many Imperial Admirals were holidaying in the on shore most of the fleet in berth. A total of thirty battleships were active and those far inferior to those the CN (Chukacon Navy, as refered to from here out) possessed. Harold Langdon commanded a small squadron of six prototype destroyers, which had been patrolling a wide exclusion zone mostly for smugglers whose schooners were easily blown to ribbons by the destroyers.

All enemy ships were approaching from the north, where they then must turn and come about from the northwest to approach Waldenburg proper. Langdon, who could have easily intercepted the enemy fleet, and had been ordered to do so, wisely pulled back joining up with an armored cruiser as one of many squadrons scattered about the ocean took command of the squadron and prepared for his moment. Still the enemy flotilla pushed on defeating the Infamous WIS Temporal and a support fleet of turreted ironclads without a single casualty. Nothing opposed the CN from their goal, the Allumna islands, and a chain of strategically important islands forming a gauntlet approaching the Waldenburger mainland.

The trapped Waldenburger fleet fought a hit and run campaign for as long as possible dodging the hulking monster of the enemy. Due to simple geography this could not last and the fleet was pushed into the delta of a nameless mountain river, and though most of the crew simply ran across the mud away from the battle, the floating fortresses of Waldenburg where pummeled to pieces.

As the Imperial fleet burned in it’s delta Langdon had gather a misfit group of rusted hulks mostly screw frigates, his destroyers, torpedo and gun boats, and his new flagship the WIS Spiritus a single protected cruiser. It was eighty ships against perhaps a thousand, a hand full of relics versus the most advanced navy of the continent. Still the CN would be busy island as there were still substantial forces waiting in the Allumna islands, along with some very powerful naval artillery.

Orders from the Cenobiarch became more urgent and the “Last Detail” as it was known faced damnation or the enemy, and the enemy was fairly spread out at this point, it’s fleets having to separate or face ambush by island based artillery. Langdon’s last detail managed at attack in Late February, coming in the night and torpedoing two superior battleships, and with an ironclad ramming a wooden screw frigate. All three enemy ships sank, and the Last Little Detail could not be ignored any longer by the opposing fleet, who in the traditions of massive fleets when attempting to smash smaller ones sent nearly a hundred battleship in a battle line, sweeping across the islands searching for the Langdon. Who in actuality had slipped out to sea after the attack, and been away before the CN was aware of what had happened.

In the extent of a week the Squadron reappeared and sank two armored cruisers in what the enemy viewed as unoccupied territory. Fifty battleships and their squadrons were sent to investigate, and again Langdon had pulled back into the lines, and reinforcing an island fortress while about it. By this point in time approximately fifty percent of the islands were in enemy hands though most were not dug in, the troops could not be spared to hold them if the mainland was to be assaulted.

Leading a column of sailors and what marines could be found Langdon retook an island and with as much theatrics as he risked lit the surrounding jungle on fire, creating a signal beacon nearly a mile high, and following to plan the enemy fleet sprinted to the area with lightning speed approaching in a vast circle, there were no options of escape against fully prepared battleships. However there was no need to escape as the Last Detail was gone, only the cruiser and a few frigates had made the approach carrying what men could be spared, a fuse set to the arsenal of the enemy and again the Waldenburgers slipped away.

This pace of events continued for four weeks, by which time most sailors were either biting their legs off either from terror and sleepless nights, or in the case of the Waldenburger’s hunger. Enemy casualties had not been very severe up to this point, out of a thousand operating craft still around 900 were in service, still fully coaled and ready for combat. The battle had never really happened it was the sprinting of the CN around the islands looking for what could not be found (Although it should be noted that most of the Waldenburger coal fired ships had been abandon and laid as mines at this point.) Enemy sailors were so disheartened, none of their goals met, after six weeks of chasing shadows. Soldiers now were spread to thin, such defensive actions had been put up against this enemy force that the most the CN could manage in the amount of time before they did run out of supplies was bombard the shore and depart. They did so.

On the customary victory parade a crowd of jubilant thousands greeted Captain Langdon, cheering his precession through the capital. He was given accolades and awards reserved for members of the Imperial family, made a Grand Duke, and Grand Admiral, a suitable marriage was arranged for him, and he was granted a house in the Allumna islands. Unfortunately for him after the government paid the dues; he had his limbs sawn off and his hacked and bleeding torso thrown into the ocean for failure to obey orders.

End of the Dull History

Though situation and technology have changed massively a more modern approach has been applied to the naval tactic. Mostly it is called bait and lure, a costly delaying tactic, which is usually more bloody then useful. Squadrons of eight destroyers (As most capital ships have a CIWS average of eight) and an undesignated number of smaller craft attack a much larger squadron or enemy fleet, lightly and without conclusion, withdrawing hopefully without taking casualties but most definitely making their presences known. Both of the following actions are the intent and fully satisfactory outcomes of the maneuver.

Firstly the attack is ignored and the fleet continues of its mission, who, however wise leaves and squadron at the advancers back. If this is the case then fools are they, should a retreat be necessary or resupply then the option has been limited by an enemy presence.

The second option is that the opponents fleet follows, if it attacks in it’s entirety and even attempts to stay in order the Eight ship squadron will not be caught and a successful delay has been made. Should the enemy follow with a smaller amount of weak vessels or with air power then so much the better. The aircraft carrier, while quite the impressive ship is only a target without it’s aircraft, one hundred thousands tons of steel is just that without support. A fleet is the similar way, while one may entirely compose one’s navy on dreadnaughts they risk assault from destroyers. A fleet that cannot be touched and yet do no damage is a fleet nonetheless.

The strategy is an extension of the AB doctrine; fear, uncertainty and despondency have been spread amongst the enemy. Of course Waldenburg action groups are prepared for such an event and when fighting under the theories of Langdon then a fleet will fan out to the maximum extent, any direction becomes a vector of attack every angle become an uncertainty. Submarines are also commonly used and additionally have the bonus depth where no matter how hard they may try a twelve-inch shell shall never make. If a squadron is prepared to meet the invaders then the entire better, Waldenburg Reception Squadrons consist of 1 Light Aircraft Carrier (Invincible Class), four battlecruisers or arsenal ships, a countermeasures ship (A frigate stripped bear of offensive weapons and packed full of obviously, countermeasures.) And two anti air ships usually of destroyer classification.

With the lack of battleships and regular cruisers allows for a more active speed, that less nimble ships would lack. Unless an entire enemy squadron has been sent in pursuit, which is in line with the circumstances above and would hint at the superiority of the enemy fleet, should this tactic be used. Then the defender Squadron may wipe out the pursuers.

OOC To be cleaned up when I have some more time then at present and very possibly redefined.

Baron Grand Admiral Ajax Sloan:
Gender: Male
Age: 67
Weight: 187 Lb
Height: 5' 11''
Eye Color: Brown
Description:
Born to a wealthy naval family in Strienlikstern, Ajax was raised on the sea, his father Commodore Eustace Sloan commanded a squadron in the last Grey Wars. The family continue it's traditions in the young Sloan, handing him over as cabin boy aboard the WIS Jubilate where he served from the age of twelve. To this day he still wears the uniform of the navy of the Imperial Navy and is the highest decorated officer of the Navy. When his father passed away in 2008, a majority of the Sloan family wealth was left to their navy, directly under the command of their son. In Blünderburg the naval School is informally named "Ajax Academy." For their most famous pupil.

The Admiral, though not known for amazing combat ingenuity (Though he is one of the better tactical officers the Empire has) is known for his single minded update of the navy from a third world laughing stock to a well funded arm of Imperial might. He took part in several small actions and claimed victory in each one. He is fondly known by superiors and junior officers as "The Old Man of the Navy", a name which he wears like a glove.

To those who know him personally he is often considered gruff, become hugely refined only in the presence of women. The navy life has refined him and better then any Imperial finishing school, as he has spent a majority of his life away from the Arms of the Church he is quite a modern officer.

Sir Vice Admiral Terrance Opplant (OIH)
Gender: Male
Age: 49
Weight: 154 Lb
Height: 5' 7''
Eye Color: Ice Blue
Description:
Where as Sloan as looked upon as a hero of the navy, doing everything to see it right, Opplant is considered a butcher, driving his fleets directly into the enemy. Occasionally this does work and looks very impressive, the body count is terrible but the Church approves of mad charges. He is considered a late bloomer in the navy, joining at twenty three after serving as first officer on board the WIS Fin of God (Then Post of Commodore Sloan.)

When Sloan was promoted to Grand Admiral, several reports came to life of Opplant's "Valuable Service to the Empire." He followed his old mentor up in the ranks, being promoted to Vice Admiral after only eight years of service. There he has stayed ever since, without a battle he is a hopeless man.

Like most officers of a certain rank he comes from a wealthy family, Land owners in the Allumna's and water merchants. The Vice Admiral obtained the attitude Sloan so detested, of Nobility and a calmness in dangerous situations bordering on the insane. By Church officials he is considered an unshakable officer, though his crew often describe him somewhat unfavorable. Despite their differences Sloan and Opplant maintain a hate hate friendship, and are often seen screaming at one another over cigars.

His Grace Archduke Leopold von Waldenburg

Gender: Male
Age: 56
Weight: 512 Lb
Height: 5' 11''
Eye Color: Brown
Description: Of the Imperial family Leopold is the most senior member directly outside of the direct Imperial Family. He is a nephew to the current Emperor. Currently he has eight children, most of them of his mistress Lady du Montfraudin. His wife, the Duchess von Waldenburg committed suicide ten years ago, for very obvious reasons. Since then the Archduke has mostly been shut up in his rooms, eating copiously for years. When pressed by those who rank above him he gives a vague answer on "keeping up with correspondence." To those below his rank he just snaps. As so much is known of him he is a staunch Imperialist and a supporter of Economic reforms away from the Church.

When he was young and fit, he purchased the Emperor's personal shares of DMI Military Industries, with almost all of his assets. Since then he has become obscenely wealthy, and own palaces far grander then those of the Emperor. He is the only man in the Empire to have raised a private navy, based around the Invincible Class Carrier Zadok. Before his affair and overeating he was considered for the Church, and the Ministry of the Interior, both of which turned him down quickly after his falling out.

His Most Gracious Imperial Majesty Wyatt von Waldenburg IV
Gender: Male
Age: 79 (January 19th)
Weight: 165 Lbs
Height: 5’11’’
Eye Color: Blue
Description: Wyatt von Waldenburg was born as the son of Felix von Waldenburg, the regicidal Prince of the 1930’s who brought ruin on the country. The better part of his life he was under the foreign influence of the Bautzonians mainly, a foreign council ratified most of his early decisions. A traumatic childhood, his father running and fighting for the country and alleged sexual abuse by his confessor, lead the younger Waldenburg to flinch away from outstretched hands, and run his choices through his elders. Not the stock of imperial dignity that had up till now been the standard of the Empire, but a much better candidate to lead a modern state.

According to Waldenburg law no regent may be appointed, the Holy Church would by common sense, and the constitution, take charge of the country completely. Therefore Wyatt von Waldenburg IV ascended the throne at the age of eleven and ruled ever since. No opportunity presented itself for a formal education so the Emperor learned on the job. Most of this embarrassing inexperience lead to Waldenburg’s more recent wars. He is still considered a bright man, his entire life under the crown, but he can often be blunt, frustrating and undiplomatic.

He was married, before his wife was assassinated he lead a cold and formal relation with her for only the sake of the arranged marriage. The day after she was married the Emperor and the Cenobiarch concluded a private meeting in which Wyatt von Waldenburg IV donated twenty billion dollars for the Imperial Memorial Cathedral of St. Jacob. Currently the Emperor has five children ranging in age from 45 to 16. Four boys and one girl.

By most of the Aristocracy he is considered a weak monarch, but tradition and the Church hold him to a shaking throne.

The Lady Margaret Opplant
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Weight: 137 Lbs
Height: 5’6’’
Eye Color: Grey
Description: The young trophy wife of the Vice Admiral Terrance Opplant, Margaret comes as a shock in the male dominated society of Waldenburg. It is said she is the only woman not to fall to here knees at the approach of the Emperor. Though she is not particularly beautiful she has any easy charm, and a light easygoing manner. That is until you cross her in the business world, where she is often considered a tiger.

Born to a middle class family in Blünderburg she met the Vice Admiral at the age of seventeen at a Christmas mass. They were infatuated with one another, the Vice Admiral for her easy grace, and Margaret for his power and influence. They were married after a well-publicized love affair, and a nearly epic courtship that many call as being planned out. At their multimillion Reichmark wedding naval planes loaded with rose petals and orchids streamed overhead in one of the most famous scenes as orchestrated by Grand Admiral Ajax Sloan.

Within a week of having access to her husbands fortune she had begun three companies, nearly bankrupting the family. After a slight downswing however they picked up, and the oil, iron, and silver drawn out of the desert mad Margaret and her husband richer then imagined. She is often considered a kind women, giving huge amount to charity and only in the business world for the entertainment of seeing grown men cry, and cry often. She currently has two children Ajax, named after his godfather the Grand Admiral, and Laurel, they are twins and suspectedly conceived before the marriage.

Gender: Male
Age: 53
Weight: 160 lb
Height: 6'2''
Eye Color: green
Description: Albin was born to the lower middle classes in the Imperial Capital of Streinlikstern and was apprenticed to a lens grinder at the age of ten. The vocation did not suit him and he fled to the Cathedral of St. Micheal where he found sanctuary, and after a short talk with the local prelate on the subject of faith and belief had earned himself a full scholarship in the Canon office of Study. Since then his thesis on belief have been published, and read across the world, and later for his theories and postulates the department of Experimental Theology was set up.

Experimental Theology is the testing of what allows humans to believe in what they cannot prove to exist and more importantly how to alter their views through outside means. His thesis on the subject of belief are currently censored in over one thousand nations. Since his time in college he has won numerous accolades, and a Bishopric. He know looks forward to researching his topic outside of the monocultural hub of Waldenburg. On his chest rests more offices and titles than most doctors of the nation, and he claim both the office of Grand Inquisitor and Imperial Liason to the Inquisition. He plays the viola and was married once before, however was widowed in a bout of civil unrest perpotrated by the infamous Felix Albemier.

OOC The Start of Foreign Relations

Office of the Canoarch

“I would say something dramatic about coming with God but I’m afraid no one would write it down. So I brought a sword instead.”
His Imminence Harold the Cardinal Thousis Cenobiarch of the Holy Church

With the rambling and spread out hierarchy of the Church, one who acts with complete autonomy is the Canoarch. He alone may dispatch Holy Ambassadors, and request foreign offices in any foreign State, acting as Viceroyalty within the Church. Though his budget and allowances are decided by the Cenobiarch, he is the Cardinal and Primate of all foreign converts, the power he wields in immense and not to be underestimated. As of yet the Holy Church does not have many foreign members, though it is expanding and quite large in the Waldenburg Empire. With the opening of nominal foreign relations, the Church also now has the ability to expand. Here is an incomplete list of foreign Cardiums, and a list of followers directly within the Waldenburger Empire:

The Most Divine Empire of Waldenburgers (4.674 Billion)
The Electorate of Border Guards (3.95 Billion)
The Imperium of Chukacon (2.75 Billion)
The Colony of Ibblesguard ( 4.20 Billion)
The Grand Duchy of Paloni (1.9 Billion)
The Imperial Colony of Waldenburg Prime (2.9 Billion)
The Imperial Democracy of Cazelia
The Kingdom of Pan Arab Barronia
The Neo Prussian Empire of Kampfers
The Kingdom of Rodensia
The Allied States of Vanek Drury Brieres
The Imperial Dominion of Aschenhyrst
The Holy Empire of Stevid and Her Commonwealths
The Kingdom of Espanayola
The Republic of Eden IV
The Imperial Republic of Greston and Her Dominions Across the Seas
The Kingdom of Gataway

Naturally the further you travel from St. Michael’s the power of the Church lessens. But those few that have seen the fanaticism of a united Waldenburg Empire did not live to regret it. Within the year there is expected to be movement from the Church on the lines of conversion.

History:

“There shall be no surrender, there shall be only victory and whence the victory comes we shall embrace to our hearts that we have done the necessary work, the work which God has ordained for us to perform.”
Declaration of Ultimatums to Jagaro

"Nothing short of a boarding party with high explosive charges, chain swords, and mystical powers will get through, I'm sure of it."
Lt. Commander Reginald Harker (WIS White Knight, 1st Black Crusade)

The true history of Waldenburg is considered vastly unattainable, as the Church enjoyed shrouding over many things, lost crusades, sodomizing Bishops and basic mismanagement of the country. As the Church also acts as unofficial censor they compiled a history that is at least partially true, it of course paints their imminences in a light so bright it would blind the less prepared.

Supposedly the first start of the Empire came as the event known as the Great Collapse, where the Ferran Empire, a supposedly massive and oppressive government collapsed under the weight of internal pressure and Royal inbreeding. The First Ibblesguardian nation rose out of the ashes and was generally considered the perpetrator of the collapse of the Ferran Empire. Still separate groups began to arise; most of them were previous slave races, bonded to the Ferran under constant threat of pain.

Still it seems war is the main idea behind freedom and by 10 AD Prince Augustus Patriaics, one of the Waldenburger leaders flees Zimmwalden the origin land of Waldenburg, now in modern day Border Guards. There were only two ways available to the Prince forward, into the misleadingly plush land to the south, or west into the civil war stricken Empire. He obviously chose south and took an entourage of about two dozen of the Royal family within him wading into the nicely forested and cool Rimwald of Waldenburg. Even then the border ring of hospitable land lasted only a few hundred miles, and although sparsely populated not the place he was about to stop and reform an Empire. Though while in the Rimwald he did take time to rape a local woman, some ways are very hard to break especially for aristocracy. Before anything could be done to the prince he had his pants back and was escaping down south again with his entourage.

At this point he learned something that hundreds of generals have learned before, don’t burn your bridges behind you. For when he reached the end of the Rimwald a barren steppe land stretched out in front of him. At this point came the first battle in Waldenburger history as his twenty-man entourage held off a group of nearly a thousand farmers as they attempted to capture the Prince and as tradition dictated for sexual crimes, drown him in a vat of warm honey. With certain death behind him he took his coronet, shoved it in his armor and began running across the steppe as his guard were eventually butchered behind him. On the steppe then there was no one other then the occasional roaming heathen priest who stopped to laugh at the bedraggled prince. And was subsequently killed, and all their goats stolen.

The modern world with or without proof cannot determine how Augustus crossed the Steppe and then the desert, though it is said it screamed in his sleep for years after his rescue and coronation.

When, however the royal did cross the desert and find the first human settlement he could have seen in nearly ten years it was a well-recorded event. Tanni, a poor village girl was the first to see the Prince stumble out of the desert. According to the first book of the Prophet Samuel the meeting went something like this.

“And out of the desert there came a man, dressed in holy armor. Rusted away in but the gleaming eagle upon his chest. Upon his head of flaming hair, sat a crown of such beauty, as to block out even the light of the sun. He held in his hand a notched weapon, which he raised to the heavens and screamed in a language unfamiliar to those about him. The native were so awed by this man they fell to their knees gibbering at the light the man exhumed, bowing falsely to the image of the Great God. The Great Prince walked regally forward into the town eyes fixed forward, still shining as the night of a thousands dawn.” It goes on at some length; mostly they attempt to find a form to communicate with several accountants of the Prince falling to his knees at the sight of a horse trough.

Within the year they were capable of speaking to one another and Augustus spoke of the Great God he had met in the desert and had sustained him, guiding him through the burning desert. Being a fairly simple minded folk the early Waldenburgers fell of this story and demanded that they be shown his power, surely if he had communicated with the Prince then he would have some power as well. According to myth he took a pot of water and made in burst into flame, dipped his sword into it and stabbed the local high priest through the neck. This carried the crowd and they again fell to their knees and this time the Prince was prepared to accept is worship.

Augustus took the Waldenburger name Wyatt and married local women in 34 AD. Quickly his faith rose as he performed miracle after miracle all of different nature, making the earth explode, having liquid burn and hewing stone with the weapon he carried. A very simple people accepted this at base level and were constructing temples to this Unnamed God, which watched over all of them and gave out such excellent powers to those that followed the correct path.

Soon his followers had tripled in number and the other villages had started to take notice and either swear allegiance to this new religion or attempt to destroy it. In 37 AD a coalition of ten thousand warriors laid siege to Wyatt von Waldenburg palace and it’s small guard. Again in the cryptic words of the Church “The very ground itself rose up and swallowed Odenthene and his army. Rock burned and fell from the skies in ways the Waldenburgers had never seen. The heathen that still stood kneel on the spot and renounced their false Gods accepting the truth.”

It took little persuading after the first few battle to convince the country to join under the banner of this unnamed deity, and his followers who had considerably more fun crushing the unrighteous. By 40AD the first Cathedral was being erected and priesthood had been formed out of the better of the scholars of the land. From them the populace learned of many things such as the basic of chemistry and economics, literacy and crop rotation. At first the clergy acted as more scientists and teachers then the role they would play later, they taught through regular sessions the efficient running of a country.

By 57 AD Wyatt von Waldenburg had amassed half of modern day Waldenburg into his empire, and his citizens were becoming educated to the level of the old Farren lords. In that same year the great Emperor died leaving his last bequest on his Empire that his first-born son should rule, and that his line should be blessed with long life to his heirs. As the body was being entombed his possessions were being sanctified the coronet and sword were being blessed and shriven of demons. They would become the articles of coronation and grace the heads of all Emperors.

With the clever clause in his last wish the Emperor had told his people that his first-born sun should reign, by this time they knew of his illegitimate son born to the women in the Rimwald. Whether he lived or even had been born was a mystery to the Priesthood, but they were bound by their Emperor to find the heir. In confidence of being able to cross the desert Archbishop of Scant assembled a force of two hundred thousand and prepared to set out across the steppe.

It is again unknown how the army made it; perhaps by drinking the body water of the third that died, it is unknown in any case. When they came out in the Rimwald they found a king apposing them, Ethelgreg and his motley army. Even though now outnumbered through the desert jaunt the Archbishop and his army exploded out of the steppe, thirst driving them mad they lead a four-day charge slaughtering hundreds of thousands. All day, running and killing a madness of the desert propelling them as they laid waste to the surrounding countryside. Eventually the forward column found the town where supposedly the Emperor’s son lived. When they found a man of the right age who looked similar and whose mother had an interesting story, the army fell to it’s knees and the Archbishop held out the coronet.

After wiping away a small amount of blood it was placed on his head and assumed the name Roger von Waldenburg, and united the two halves of his country, which is entirely accurate in saying converted on the spot. Through a long reign of fifty years he built is country up and constructed water depots through out the desert and steppe to allow travelers to visit the other half of the Empire.

For the next 700 years the Empire continued to build and road systems linked the two halves. Science and art, though strictly regulated flourished under the hands of an ever more powerful Holy Church. It was generally good ruling although the population became a little resistant to the discipline of the church as usually happens eventually.

This new heretical movement who looked on the palaces of the Archbishop’s with disdain found a leader in Alfred du Hazergrind, a fiery nobleman who clung to the old ways of before Wyatt von Waldenburg the first. He lead the first uprising against the Church and smashed a Division on the White Mountain where he, and a following of about 50,000 built the looming Hazergrind Fortress. It was the ultimate affront to the Church who attempted twice to assault the massive towers with local militias. Blood flowed in rivulets down the mountain and trickled washed into the fields below.

The first Cardinal, Iransi Lowl pleaded before the Emperor for assistance in defeating the heretic. The current Emperor Roger II was unmoved by their plight and would not put forward a troops to what was obviously a slaughter. To that extent the Cardinal gather his robes and reached his hand for his most powerful weapon. Beatification of an army who would serve him in the slaughter of the heretics in their mountain fortress, which unbeknownst to the Emperor would serve the clergy for centuries.

Conveniently for the Cardinal, most of those who signed on for the war were at least partially leaning in the direction of evil, and the slaughter would hardly effect donations. Still the Cardinal raises a force of 120,000 and again assaulted the fortress from two directions and siege equipment. On the fourth day of the battle the castle wall fell in one location and the Church’s troops rushed through slaughtering those inside.

Alfred the Pagan lord pushed his wife out of a window rather then see her die by the hands of the Cardinal’s men. He then fought veraciously with his personal guard for another week, surviving by drinking the blood of his dead comrades. Eventually he too was killed and the castle taken by the Church. Iransi gave the following speech to his bedraggled and bloodied army.

“You have fought like the angels of God himself. Against the walls we fell in defense of God, all for God’s will and the righteousness of his word. Is there any man here who would not die for what we have built here today? Is there a single man who would go home after seeing the zeal of true servants in of the light? If you would then you are mistaken for though you have done much I demand more much more, of my people. We have taken land from the pagan we have seized the soul of the very devil myself but there is on last place we must invade. The heart of every man must be made pure, all evil thought pushed away. You have done well today but there is much more I ask of my Divine Legion!”

Before this point the Church had only been minorly constraining, now it became a terror. Every night more houses were torched and thousands fled before the wrath of a few old men in robes. The Emperor did nothing as he too feared the power of the new Divine Legion and the Inquisition set up to root out heresy then destroy it. In 817 AD the Empire was informally introduced as the Theocracy of Waldenburg.

Waldenburg Dark Ages:

The rise of the Holy Men did not bode well for the country and the clergy went mad with power. Even executing several members of the royal family for trumped up charges. In an act of hasty damage control Horace von Waldenburg III Created the Triumphal Convocation to counteract the power of the ascending star of the Church. Hundreds of noblemen were hastily put into power; in the end about 12,000 more then was strictly necessary to control the population. Still the power of the Church was now facing several thousand highly vexed aristocrats, which is possibly the most frightening thing imaginable. With the threat of being starved to death and their furniture repossessed the Holy Church agreed to sign a constitution limiting their powers to purely the punishment of purely sinful crimes and never to use the death penalty. There were clauses allowing such things as sodomy to be legalized. This however even with the threat of starvation would not stand and the Divine Legion put to field burning the town of Ibblestern and executing Prince William von Waldenburg.

Early Divine Legion Soldiers in First Pontifical War

Imperial armies also took up the call and the First Pontifical War began at the battle of Hampton Court. Thirty thousand royalists defending an Imperial bridge and the Summer Palace of the Emperor from 190,000 of the Divine Legion, allowed the Emperor to escape before the arrival of the Divine Legion. Here the name of Sloan, originally Conrad Sloan became famous as he led the 10th Heavy Infantry in a suicidaly brave charge on the vanguard of the Divine Legion. He was awarded a hereditary Duchy posthumously. That was the first and only large battle of the Pontifical war as the rest was majorly fought in Hampton Swamp between skirmishing regiments.

In one stoke of luck though on August 21, 878 the First Army Imperial Army Group capture a quorum of the Council of Bishops, ending the war most swiftly. Not so luckily by this time a much more pious man had been made Emperor, Lothar the Pious as he was termed pushed for the Church to keep nearly the same power as earlier but limiting their man power to 1,000,000 armed soldiers.

So the problems again stagnated as the country fell back into the pits of religious genocide. That was now perfectly legal and ordained by the Emperor Lothar the Pious who refused to die until he golden jubilee. Within dozes of bloody years he was replaced by Edward II who, legally could do nothing realized that he must turn the violence outward to save his country. Another section of the Old Ferran Empire would due, the recently formed Reichkangdøm of Ibblesguard to which he had only received good communications and trade. Still he informed the then Cardinal Francis Templeton of the evils across the border and his diplomats had come back nailed upside down to horses. With crosses carved into their chests.

In a fit of patriotism, possibly induced by incense, the Cardinal called for a crusade faithful peoples were to enlist and fight for their country against the heathen. In 975 a vast army of 3,000,000 assembled and marched into Ibblesguard through the mountains and completely took the city of Mintasburg, killing it’s inhabitants. The Battles of Hartmoor, White Oak, Basely Ridge, and Fenton all ended in huge victories as every hastily assembled army was smashed down by the numbers of the Crusade, and battered into the ground as city after city fell. Eventually the Crusade ended at the Battle of Pine Haven as sixty thousand enemies put up a fighting stand against the enemy before fleeing north into the Sovereign kingdom of Border Guards.

On the views that no foreigner was a good one the Crusade pressed on taking down Border Guards in a less bloody but much longer time frame. Within thirty-five years of the onslaught the Second Pontifical Wars were over having crushed two kingdoms that likely would have become allies.

In this new state of power and wealth the empire expanded with very little happening worthy of note, ineffective ruler after another took the throne as the population grew and the system of life hardly budged at all. Dates from now until the Grey Wars will be made into a chronology.

1032 AD: The Act of Union creates the Waldenburg Imperium, which contains Waldenburg, Border Guards, Ibbleguard, and Paloni in protectorate status.

1099: The Rights of man passes through the Triumphal Convocation, the first act against the Church in centuries. Children under the age of ten may no longer be tried for any sort of heretical crime. Nor may priests no have children and pass on the Bishopric to their children.

1157: The Glorious Revolution of Thursday: Seven Hundred Members of the Divine Legion capture Rogue Bishop Pantri Sevalus Starting the Third Pontifical Wars which engulf the colonies and last another thirty years. Factions included the Waldenburg Empire, Illbesguardian Insurrection Society, and Chucakon the only other sovereign nation on the continent.

1159: Battle of Pugrhorn Mound is fought; it was the last case in which the Emperor led the battle personally. Casualties over two hundred thousand.

1187: Scant Accords Signed again not imposing much change on the freewheeling Church. Although all States In union with the Waldenburg Empire are reduced to protectorate status.

1291: Bishop Hugh of Plotz, enacts the Act of Repression naming the seven Cardinal sins and the actions to be taken against them.

1292: Embassy Opens with Chucakon first embassy in the Empire.

1385, November 16th: Aspyr Islands found and settled

1401: Cardinal Hugh von Waldenburg ascends the throne as well as taking the lead of the Church as Cenobiarch. This has never happened again or before in the history of the Empire, and despite all cases in point was the most peaceful stage until modern times.

1437: First none continent communication with the nation of Christopher Thompson

1512: The Cathedral of St. Michael’s in started by architect Rezzio Maco

1514: Imperial Navy is begun with the WIS Ark of Heaven

1599: St Michaels is completed, along with the new Imperial Palace, which now sits side by side in Strienlikstern.

1674: Waldenburg Renaissance begins as art flourishes under the whims of a league of modernist Bishops named the Scant League

1708: The first and only schism in the Church takes place as Bishop Uthar Tembrost sets himself up as the Cenobiarch in Ibblestern. His Opposite is Cardinal George Villip.

1716: Uthar Tembrost Executed of the lawn of St. Michael’s, his order is put down.

1751: Knighthoods are awarded for the first time for valorous action in service of the country.

1800: First demonstration of Steam power to the Emperor court.

1804: All foreign holdings are freed, Ibblesguard, Border Guards released on semi binding terms of donating 100,000 minimum troops to Waldenburg’s armies.

1847: The first silver is found in the desert, and newly crowned Emperor Wyatt von Waldenburg III issue the act of Reclamation, moving a large part of Waldenburg’s man power to exploit the new resources.

Here of course the infamous industrialization begins, curbing the environment and it’s general goodness, to be replaced by sprawl of progress. Now as the complex grew quickly, the recently freed neighbors who of course wished anything to spite Waldenburg and destroy any progress they may make out of the dark ages. One problem in this plan is that without the head start that Waldenburg had there was no way to catch up without buying goods from the very thing they fought. Steel, and coal were exported at exorbitant rates, and money flowed into the Empire. By 1865 Chukacon had had enough and broke it’s isolation to buy from foreign powers, who though still expensively exported massive amounts of what Chukacon required for it’s newest action against Waldenburg.

The First Grey war started unexpectedly with thirty divisions launching a surprise attack into the High Desert and wiping out Army Group 3, taking important town of Lint a tiny municipality through which most foreign communication traveled. Ibblesguard had allowed Chukacon access inside the country to launch such attacks and had allied themselves with Chukacon.

Instead of a counter attack through the desert, which would exhaust the men to incredibly amount, Waldenburger mountain divisions assaulted through the supposedly impossible summits of the Ibblesguardian mountain shield. Coordinated with the Imperial navy, the two hits shocked Ibblesguard into surrender. Only about 97,000 Ibbleguardians perished but the Waldenburger Imperial navy was by far stronger, and the entirety of the continent besides Waldenburg, depended on foreign trade, which would be strangled , this acted as the major force behind the surrender.

The Second Grey War came only six months later as a flotilla of three hundred Chucakonian ships entered the Aspyer Islands, and started the laying waste to the area. A series of fortress prevented the entrance of the fleet into Waldenburg Proper, and the fleet eventually withdrew. Both sides claimed victory, Waldenburg, Strategic, and Chukacon Tactical. Only Chukacon’s ships had been armored which made an entry by the Imperial Surface fleet impossible. Here technology started to play a massive role as each side tried desperately to out do the other. Surface ships became armored, then belted, and dreadnaughts started to appear. Unofficially skirmishing had been taking place all this time between the two powers, and more had died in this quasi war then in the two previous. This was known as the Third Grey War.

Following the testing of muscles in the Third War, the fourth opened with full force as a Waldenburger submarine fleet squeezed off the surface navy and constricted it’s operations to port. Following this the Imperial Waldenburger fleet began a campaign of island hopping taking small island after small island. At this point the Church actually put forth the Divine Legion as Stormtroopers the first time, it had done so. However the Chukacon surface navy eventually broke the submarine blockade and entrapped half a million Waldenburger men on the island of Vindelmar. Instead of bombarding the island to a bubbling pit of glass, they order a marine assault. Nearly three hundred thousand Chukaconians were killed before the island was reduced to a cinder by the enemy’s surface fleet.

First Imperial Service Fleet, 1888 WIS Patriarch Flagship

General Kellor Walehouse signed the surrender on 1889, June 5th in which Waldenburg handed over two billion Reichmarks and it’s submarine fleet.

While Waldenburg was recovering from it's surrender, the monarchy was in collapse under the shaky grasp of Wyatt von Waldenburg III. Though he was considered a saint by the common man, the nobility and clergy were not prospering as usual. Felix von Waldenburg, then heir to the throne agreed to recreate the Empire through blood, this was however a ploy by Rupert Fry Senior to destroy the Theocratical system of the Empire and create himself as the new Emperor.

Felix attempted to annex Groddenburg, a province that had also been annexed by the free state of Jagaro. During the confrontation a peace conference was proposed which Felix attended with representatives of Jagaro, and four other nations who range in their support or distaste of Waldenburg. Through Felix's poor negotiations every ounce of support for the Waldenburger claim. Eventually after being called a "Pompous Bastard" he challenged Walter Higgens of Bautzen to a duel. Due to the laws of the country in which the country was being hosted the duel was reciprocated to the Tyrant of the Incognitans, who was a excellent duelist, at least with his weapon of choice, the halberd. Within five minutes of the duel a machine gun from the Royal Gardens opened up, killing nearly all of Felix's Guards and wounding several others including the Prince himself. While in the meeting Felix had his father murdered on the suggestion of Rupert Fry.

Felix played damage control, even though he had not orchestrated it he was sure it was someone within his Empire, and he covered up with a set of letters "Poor Old Soldier" a set of evidence removing blame from Waldenburg. It was however not received well and within a month five nations were at war with Waldenburg. Despite a brilliant defensive war campaigned by Admiral Kennedy and the Imperial Navy to hold the country for quite along time. Still numbers and decent political leadership shrunk the Waldenburg Empire to it's capital, Blünderburg where the sieging army refused to bombard the city, and the city could not be taken by storm.

After a year of siege the Grand Alliance, under the cover of night flew in nearly one hundred zeppelins and dropped troops into the city. The war reached it's apex that night, as the Imperial air force tried to break out with the Imperial family. Imperial Zeppelins fought with white phosphorus rockets, and flaming skeletons of airships lit the city ablaze anyway. It is reported that Felix wept as he watch his Empire burn, as his heliographs reported his final troop movements. Felix escaped along with a portion of his military and began a fight and flight campaign in the mountains. His last reported sighting was in 1936 where, the body of Rupert Fry was found on a mountain path, with a note apologizing for all he had done in trusting Fry. His Body was never found, and his death cannot be confirmed.

Felix's Tears

The falsely named Fifth Grey war took place from 1889-1923 as Captain Helens, Divine Legion 13th Heavy Infantry refused to surrender his regiment and continued with a war of attrition for over thirty years. Eventually he died of old age instead of enemy fire, he was made an Archduke and Canonized.

After the terrible defeat Waldenburg licked it’s wounds for some time, before emerging on the vast international stage outside of continental affairs. Before this contact was limited to trade, and trade alone. Now however Waldenburg started sending priests abroad to convert the heathen. For some reason this enraged Chukacon who falsely accused the Empire of murdering several of it’s farmer on the border for religious reasons. This vastly discredited the Empire and a strike was planned by Major Jacon Hartlieb in early May of 1970. However hostilities ceased before they began when Chukacon paid an indemnity of 14 Billion Reichmarks. A total of twelve people died, eight of the Divine Legion who fell from a helicopter on the news of the enemy surrender, and three murdered farmers.

The final Grey war and the most recent event in Waldenburger history took place on March 5th, 1989 when Chukacon seized a bulk freighter loaded with Peanut Butter and took it home with them. After diplomatic clashing of lances, Jacon Hartlieb lead an assault force of 7,000 Imperial Marines into combat, attacking the town of Mon Chukacon which was easily overwhelmed. Instead however of allowing it to fall peacefully, members of Chukacon’s Government vaporized the town, killing a vast majority of the marines and tens of thousands of their own civilians. Luckily this drove some of the liberals inside Chukacon of the edge and a bloody and underground revolution began with the bombing of Khrones Temple. Waldenburg wisely withdrew.

Waldenburger Rp Conventions: I don’t know how many times I say before an Rp the various ways I do things, so I might as well write them down in a nice format and leave them here, then shout at people when they don’t read them. I’ll try to make it brief:

Serene Legion: The Serene Legion is an over glorified militia, service is compulsory for everyone to some extent if they are only capable of using their hands then they stuff shells for an hour a week, and if they are a good upstanding citizen they have a rifle slapped on their shoulder. The service counts as their tithe is some occasions, service to the Church, usually about two hours a month. For military purposes they are for all intents and purposes cannon fodder however the work they do say digging trenches or rewiring apartment flats with explosives is quite valuable.

For the purposes of any Rp involving myself anyone is allowed any officer, up to the rank of colonel (or by special arrangement higher) to perform the equivalent of unlocking doors. Generally they have no great privileges and the officers are usually prominent businessmen, so have no nuclear launch codes, however one man in the right place. Congruent to his any nation is allowed to have men within the Serene Legion who are essentially conscripts from the Church diocese of course; I would base this on general relations with the Church. As a rule of thumb unless your directly in the Med region, no more than 1,000.

Nuclear Weapons: I myself only use nuclear mines or the occasional dirty bomb; under no circumstance will I ever accept ICBM’s with nuclear warheads. My MMS (Magical Missile Shield) will shoot them down in a variety of interesting ways, which change with the season. If you wish to nuke Waldenburg that is your business however I won’t put up with the afore mentioned combination. Though this system is probably poor science it certainly is better than a barrage of missiles in a three post war.

If there is to be nuclear destruction at least make it clever.

Implied Consent: If there ever needs to be a death to move the plot along someone needs a befuddled Waldenburger to set someone up for a pun or flippant line, take it. The level to which some people wish to control their own country is astonishing, so if anything needs to happen to move the story along take the shot.

Anyone without a name is automatically fair game, to be diced to pieces, to fall into the genius array of spikes and palm fronds whatever. In a battle if a tank or machine gun nest or similar is to be obliterated to introduce your ultimate killing machine that is fine. Just use your digression, anything that cannot be easily reversed or effects the ultimate end of the Rp should probably be out. It is by far better, and I will gentle applaud you, to seek forgiveness then ask permission of all these trivial things. If there is something wrong with it I will drop you a Tg but again just be reasonable.

Implied Diplomatic Consent: Instead of going though the same tired “permission to come aboard?” “Absolutely” “I come aboard” “I take you to a meeting room. Land and choose your own location to have the meeting or whatever it happens to be. If it is prearranged then there is no problem at all, and if it is not then make a relative post and do the same thing. It saves a lot of poor quality paragraph length posts.

The Holy Church: Anyone is allowed to control a certain level of the clergy and believers. Of course it should be noted that this is proportional to how many of your citizens the Church has in it’s pocket. So if you want 70 cardinals to vote your way, fine but that may represent a billion of your citizens who are more devoted to the Church than your own state. (That’s a bit of an exaggeration there are perhaps 1500 cardinals so it may be a little skewed but it is the point that counts.)

Spies: They are equally acceptable as traitors however they will not be gaining terrible and dark secrets unless by arrangement.

If there is anything you are unsure about I am open to telegrams and happy to accept them and should respond fairly quickly if at all possible. More to come as I think of them.
