Workers at a coal mine discovered a large platinum deposit early this morning. It is unclear how large the deposit is, but it is estimated to take up 0.5 square miles.
The Division of Natural Resources has seized the deposit and is opening it up for foreign export and excavation. They have reserved one-eight of the deposit for domestic usage.
We are soliciting offers to mine and export the platinum.

The Free Empire was astonished to find a, smaller, deposit of platinum in bordering colony, the Golden Coast. Extensive mining found that it was merely a pocket, but still is expected to bring additional funds to the government.

Additional seam discovered
An additional deposit was discovered at the Akimonadite platinum mine by domestic workers. The deposit was found when the end of a tunnel that the miners were working on partially caved in, revealing more platinum behind the layer of soil that was present.
The deposit is estimated at another half of a square mile in size, doubling the size of the deposit.
When asked about the plans for the new deposit, the newly-formed Akimonad Mine Authority stated that they were planning to divide the deposit up and auction it off.
Environmental protestors were, as usual, protesting the mining, which has had little actual effect on the ecology of the area.

Once they arrived a SONAR buoy directed them into an underground chamber. They would emerge in a massive underwave cave, the sides still covered in symbols from the old Saharistani Government. They were hastily covered up with glossy stickers from the General Resources Conglomerate.
They were in one of dozens of submarine pens going up and down the coasts. Build by the insane dictator before he nuked his own country back to the Bronze Age, these things were impervious to nearly all forms of combined Halberdgardian, McKagan, Leafanistani, Willink and even Space Union bombardment, short of a superdreadnought.
The men would be led out of the chamber, each one being given a small attache case full of cash. They would board a few airplanes at a nearby airport back to their home country.
Meanwhile a total of 6 billion USD arrived in the treasury accounts for the Northern Baltic. The General Resources Conglomerate paid its partners well.

Four men covered in complete black stood above the harboring sumbarine. Three of the four men had a black suit case in their hand. The submarine came above the water and the hatch opened. A short young sailor with a grey suit on was shown from his waist up. Then out of the darkness ten more men with black spec op suit came from the shadows with AK-47's in hand aimed at the vunerable sailor.
"Is this the ship we are supposed to meet at? All seven-teen of us are here, we got the message so the government sent us."
"Oh it's you, welcome aboard you can stay in the missile chamber." The young sailor managed out of his mouth, he climbed down the ladder into the sub then the spec ops did the same. They all were inside the sub then 13 of the spec ops went to the missile chamber, the original four went into the command room and waited for their expedition to start.

Airport
4 well dressed businessmen arrived at the airport. They arrived on a connecting flight from a neutral country, where they arrived from yet another connecting flight, and from there a private jet.
They each carried a laptop bag, and a smaller bag full of clothing. Each one of them worked for Transoceanic Investments, a cover corporation run jointly by a few foreign powers for work like this. They also dragged along a small travelers bag, filled with suits, dress shirts and other items of clothing.
Finally each of them was carrying a smartphone and babbling into their bluetooth headsets about deals, transactions, concessions and businesses.
These looked like busy men.
Of course the facade disguised what they truly were. They were 4 corporate assassins, kept in the employ of General Resources Conglomerate for when a concession needed a bit of an extra push, or when they had to promise something.
Inside each of their Traveler 8800 laptops was the newest weapon in the Leafanistani secret service arsenals, and because the Conglomerate was the main defense contractor, the newest weapon in the Conglomerate assassin corps. The X8 Battery Gun.
The X8 was a derivative of the X5 they had released to the public. The X8 was far more advanced. It was a similar action, but the outside was now a polymer composite to feel more like a laptop battery. Its ammo was now a caseless design, using a radiotransparent ceramic bullet. This meant the X8's rounds could only go 100m before their lethality became a major concern. It also meant it fragmented like crazy upon impact. Against soft targets though, this was an advantage.
The X8 had passed through Leafanistani Airport security successfully, even under advanced muon tomography where its densities were spoofed by special alloy plates to give the appearance of normal laptop batteries. The best part was the X8 had highly dense lithium ion batteries hidden in its body to actually power up the laptop.
The Conglomerate promised murder, of the men and their families, they would not disappoint.

"Hold it." he said intimidatingly. "Let me see that laptop."
The first businessman ignored the man as they waited on the line. It took the one behind him to hang up on his client on the other side of the bluetooth headset, to tap him on the shoulder.
The first businessman looked up and sighed and saved his work. The thing shut down with a pleasant feminine 'Good bye' before the businessman closed it up and handed it over.
The other businessman put their laptops and their bags on the belt for the X-Ray machine as they prepared to clear customs.

After apparently finishing, he told the man, "Now, one more thing. We've had rumors of these guns in laptops. Probably disguised. I need to remove your battery."
And he began to attempt to do so, but failed.
The official scratched his head. "Uh, here. Does this thing even have a battery?"
The rest of the laptops went through the X-Ray machine.
A man motioned another man to the display of the machine, which was showing one of the laptops.
"There. What's that?" one man puzzled.
The other man took the laptop out, and examining it, announced the problem to be one of the semi-metallic stickers on the bottom of the laptop.
Seeing as the others were the same model, they could pass through without incident.

The third businessman scoffed. The fourth one began to shout a very insulting Arabic insult before the second one stopped him and then yelled into his bluetooth headset.
The first businessman rolled his eyes and leaned forward.
He pushed the locking mechanism, and the cover came off, and the battery dropped into his hand. It was covered in stickers, many of them were hologrammed and filled with metallic strips. Each one spoke of the various vendors and shipping companies that verified they were genuine.
"They are metallic stickers because of counterfeits. Last week I heard a plane had to do an emergency landing due to a fake lithium ion battery bursting into flame due to a bad regulator. The metal consists of holograms, metallic strips and RFID chips to verify how genuine it is."
He pointed to one in the top corner, its hologram of a falcon showed up and a sliver of gold film was underneath it. The sticker proclaimed:
"Electron Engineering, AUTHENTIC REGULATOR CHIP FOR 12-CELL LITHIUM ION BATTERY."
The businessman talked again, "The reasoning is that ripoff artists can't create this many different stickers and RFID chips and get them through customs in large amounts, reducing their profitability."

The men nodded and the fourth businessman seemed to be brooding quietly. The third one calmed him down, and then smacked him in the back of his blond head, and cursed him out for being stupid to security guards, what was he asking for? A cavity search?
They boarded a taxi and checked into a hotel together. Now the real job began.
A General Resources Conglomerate Supercomputer had discovered, located and otherwise 'painted' the government official most responsible for the denial of their offer.
He lived in a gated community, with his family.
21-60 Oak Avenue
Mercer Gated Community 12-1216
And it was an hour away.
It was time to get prepared.
They were ever wary of being bugged so everything was business metaphors, and they talked via their Bluetooth headsets, taking advantage of LibNet's secure cell phone network as their coordination system. They looked on a maps website and got an angled satellite photograph so they could recognize the house.
They referred to each other through the generic names they had received when they got their passports.
Thompson, Smith, Ash, Black.
Thompson was an average looking man, balding prematurely and appeared to have a fat gut. In reality he was a well trained computer expert and their current man on surveillance and security. He worked with the Supercomputer back at General Resources to help plan the attack.
Smith was a former military man who was booted from the Naval Infantry due to roughhousing and bar brawling. He is a loose cannon, of arabic descent, but had blond hair and green eyes. He was their muscle, his thin frame hid his well trained body well. He was also their best machine gunner, with his strong body able to hold even a .50 cal gun steady in short bursts.
Ash was their sniper, a hunter from Rovonia before its conquest by Leafanistan. He was aging, and his background in actual business helped keep the illusion. He had spent a normal amount of time training with the X8 and became the best General Resources had ever seen. When he got home, he would be rewarded as a weapons tester and paid hundreds per hour.
Finally Black was a ladies man, a generic handsome hipster yuppie who could go into any nightclub, disappear and come back stinking of rum and with a lady on each arm. Beneath this he hid a killer's instinct and reacted quickly. He was to 'clean up' any bad things that happened, and his expertise at building zip guns furthered their cause.
A further search from the Supercomputer revealed family details, a wife, two kids, a son and a daughter, not too old, a beautiful standard nuclear family.
Black had gone to a plumbing store and claimed he was buying stuff for a home improvement project. He was actually going to be constructing a makeshift silencer and several small silenced zip guns for quick work and guard assassination.
Ash was currently playing with a night vision set calibrating it for the conditions and adjusting its internal reticle. He wanted to make sure they were accurate.
Smith had turned his bed on its side and was doing pull-ups to stay in shape.
The plan was forming, and Thompson had gone out to buy some bottles of bourbon for their plan. His rather plain look helped him look like a normal man. After he returned he was going to a pharmacy to buy some gauze and a few bottles of medical grade alcohol.

It was a normal day for Mr. David Salisbury. He had left from work early, having completed everything ahead of schedule.
As he sat in his B1 Tartarus, a fancy Londinian vehicle given him by the government, he thought about these rumors he had heard.
He knew the company, General Resources Conglomerate, had been refused an offer at the platinum mine.
Apparently they meant business, and they had threatened to kill someone.
David Salisbury wasn't particularly concerned, though. He was, after all, ordinary, at least in his eyes.
He rounded a curve and turned into the Mercer Gated Community, stopping at the gate.
"How goes it, Joe?" he said out the window to the guard manning the gate.
The guard looked up from his television. "Oh! Just fine, Mr. Salisbury." He pushed a button that raised the gate, and Salisbury pulled through.
His house was not very far from the gate. Only about an eighth of a mile. He pulled into the open garage, and stepped out of his car, his briefcase in tow.
As he opened the door, shouts of "Daddy!" could be heard. Salisbury's five-year-old daughter ran up to him, clamping on to his leg, severely impairing his movement.
Salisbury's wife looked up from where she was cooking pasta.
"Good evening, hon." she said. "Home early?"
"Somewhat. We finished early. That place is a goldmine." Salisbury responded.
"No, it's a platinum mine."
"Well, whatever. What's for dinner?"
"Spaghetti."
"Mmm."
Salisbury walked over to the great room of his house, dropping his briefcase on the dining table.
His ten-year-old son was playing a video game on the large television in the room.
"Alright, sport. Time for dinner." he said.
His son expressed his disappointment with a loud groan.
Soon everyone was gathered at the table, now spotted with plates and dishes of food.
"Alright. Dig in." Salisbury said, spooning a pile of spaghetti onto his plate.
Life is good. he thought.

His car went past a power company's van, the men working on a nearby poll stepped aside. They continued their work.
Meanwhile, the assassins watched the power company people work. Ash put down his binoculars and took out his Laptop gun and concealed it for later. Those men would have to drive down some dark alleys and his friends would be waiting for them.
The Night
The four men were ready. Molotov's were ready, a mix of medical grade alcohol and gasoline to ensure burn ability and long lasting.
Now they just had to get past the gated community's guard. He was an incompetent more interested in television, and hopefully couldn't remember the power company's men's faces.
They pulled up in their van and honked. Thompson went up to the intercom.
"Excuse me, we have to do some work on a transformer, I think it is low on mineral oil, and no one wants a power outage this late at night. God knows they'll freeze by morning."

The van drove in, and the men prepared themselves. From their toolboxes they removed their X8s, and pushed in a paper clip into the 'virginity' hole. Probably a sick joke of the designer, a sliver of blood colored liquid came out. A sticker on the front read: "LITHIUM ION MODERATOR IS BLOOD COLORED, DISPOSE OF IMMEDIATELY IF LEAK IS DETECTED".
A good ruse for the technically deficient. Thompson made a face, he hated this kind of stuff. Despite being a sick joker, sometimes he couldn't stand his own humor. Ash, always playing the badass licked the paperclip as Black just started giggling. He knew what was coming.
A second later Ash spit the liquid all over Black, who tried desperately to stop laughing. Smith stared at all of them, and his stern look made them all stop. They exited the van and snuck up to the house.
It was quiet, it was nighttime, a light was still on in the attic, probably a late night worker, or the child masturbating. Thompson banished the thought, he had to think militarily which meant disposing of all these nasty personal thoughts.
Smith and Ash took positions on either side of the house, while Thompson secured the front. Black moved to cover the rear of the house. They each pulled their two Molotov's out of their pockets. A flick of a lighter later and they were lit. Simultaneously Smith called all of them via their Bluetooth headsets, and they all flung them.
Thompson held his hand over his mouth as he opened his gun. His first Molotov sailed straight through the living room window and burst something instantly engulfing the room in smoke. His second had landed short and impacted just barely on the side of the wall. The other's had far better aim and each one entered a window, setting the house aflame.
It was just a matter of time to gun down anyone who came out.

She coughed, and looked up at Thompson, an expression of pure helplessness on her face.
Thompson raised his gun, he tried to pull the trigger. He couldn't do it, he tried again, and it clicked again. He had forgotten to disengage the safety.
He wouldn't have to try. Her body was riddled by 3 ceramic rounds, at this range the rounds began to fragment. Smith had come around, with his usual silent glare. His eyes reflected the fire burning in the background. Ash and Black reported in, they were clear, and their optics sets reported the rest were trapped.
Smith shoved Thompson slightly, and glared at him. In the meantime Ash and Black had come around and picked up the limp body. It was thrown into the fire, and they got back into the power company's van.
Thompson couldn't keep a straight face, it wasn't something he was used to. He couldn't do field work like this. And the rest of the team knew it, he hesitated, he risked the entire mission.
They had go, and they started driving back toward the gate. They were going back to that alley to find the dead powermen and get back to their hotel. They would go back in shifts, Thompson returning first with a sour attitude, cursing quietly about being cockblocked.
Smith would be next, holding his head, and complaining about being lost.
Finally Ash and Black would return with girls they picked up. Eventually they would return home, friendships shaken by their business trip.

OOC: I'd like a news response or an investigation opened after the fact about what happened to that poor man and his family.
