The Portugese Empire

Official Title: O Império Real de Portugal

Common Title: Monarquia de Portugese

Capital: Lisbon

Political Groups:
Communist- 6%
Traditional Supporters- 90%
Other- 4%

Government: The Empire of Portugal is ruled by the joint monarchy, with King Luis I as the current king. The monarchy though, is just a figurehead, as the government is mainly ruled by the military, with General Felipe Arroz commanding nearly every aspect of the Portugese Empire.

The Empire itself is divided into certain regions, with each being ruled by the central government in Lisbon. Portugese Africa and Portugese America are both very large, and retain mostly native populations. Besides these two regions are Portugal's holdings in the Carribean and a few Pacific Islands. All of these places though, fall under the control of the Portugese military and its spartiate ruler.

Ruler: Luis I, General Felipe Arroz

Slavery: Partially Abolished- It was decreed that African Slaves shall be granted freedom, and shall be awarded compensation and money if they take holdings in the outer colonies. The natives in the American colonies still enforce slavery between tribes, against Portugese wishes. And while they are part of the Portugese Empire, they must end these practices soon.

Portugese Military

Total Military Forces: 203,470
By Nationality:
51,020-Portugese
120,000-Former African Slaves
32,450-Carribean, Pacific, and South American Tribesmen

Traditional Portugese soldiers are outfitted with rifled muskets combined with short and sharp bayonets. Some of these soldiers also have small firearms, which are used sparingly. The majority of those that have pistols are either officers, or artillery crews. These grunts are the most numerous, but besides this, the Portugese Army also has artillery units, and a large outfitting of cavalry units, which are mainly used in the plains of their African colonies.

Former African Slaves are the most numerous of the Portugese forces, and they serve duel roles in the military. Mainly used as mariners in the navy, they can also be found operating as artillery crews. Besides these two things, they can also be found as skirmishers in the African regions, serving as scouts and guides for the Portugese army. The weapons that are given to these soldiers are subpar compared to the main forces, but are far superior to that of the lower forces.

Finally, are the forces that are found in the Portugese holdings in South America, the Pacific and the Carribbean. These men usually prefer to use weaponry besides guns, and choose to use their surroundings to their advantage, rather than face the enemy in the open field. Their weapons include everything from blowguns to bows and arrows, and although rifles are being implemented, these forces will usually fare-better if they ambush and use their own knowledge.

Relations With Colonies:

Portugese Africa- Mainland Portugal is on its best terms with its African colonies. When the African slaves were offered their freedom, their families and homelands became almost infatuated with the Portugese royalty. The African colonies are also the most developed, and are home to many of Portugal's soldiers and colonists.

Portugese America- Like Portugese Africa, Portugese America remains a stable economy and a very competent colony. The Natives here are friendly, and although are still considered second-class citizens, maintain a peaceful relationship with the colonists. The rainforests that surround these areas also provide areas for ambushes against enemy excursions.

Portugese Central and Caribbean- Although Puerto Rico is one of the richest and valuable colonies that Portugal retains, Belize remains a hotspot for anti-Portugese expansion. The natives of the Belize area try valiantly to fight for autonomous rule, but the Portugese keep offering incentives for them to join the Portugese Empire fully.

Pacific Islands- Portugal has paid little heed to these islands, leaving them almost in their traditional ways. The majority of these islands are used as stepping stones in case Portugal ever needs to access the Pacific. The largest city here can barely qualify as a township, and the colonies provide a minimal amount of goods to the central authority.

You said that I had a couple. If I am wrong, then tell me and I will shake off the populations. It doesn't seem that big of a deal though, since I am still one of the smaller empires.
