Commonwealth World Service

Given the overwhelming number of radios in Questers, most news is transmitted via radio. Therefore, in the setting of the war, I think it is quite a good idea for a thread dedicated to my radio shows.

You can have any of your citizens listen into, since the world service ... is well, a world service. The narrator has a Rhodesian (Questarian <_<) accent and there is often lots of patriotic music played.

World Service

This is London calling...

The date is Fifteenth July and the time Thirteen Hundred Hours and Thirty Questarian Main Time.

Early this morning His Majesty's Government authorised, in retaliation to the Allanean terror bombings of London itself, a military operation known as Case Orange. As civilian losses mount into the millions in London itself, Questarian Army strategic bombers bombed the Allanean city of Port Allanea with reports of half a million civilian casualties inflicted from incendiary weapons and earthquake munitions. Ground, air, and naval offensives continue on all fronts.

In other news, spectacular international donations to London itself have begun to arrive. The city of London and the nation of Questers thanks, from the bottom of its heart, all the people of the world who have commited assistance to our stricken city.

An hour ago, the Prime Minister delivered a speech from Parliament. He has personally authorised its recorded use for the World Service. Here it is.

(The accent cuts from the original and goes to that of the upper brow, thick English, of the Prime Minister)

At this point in the war, we have already suffered horrific civilian casualties, inflicted by a single enemy: the United States of Allanea. Commonwealth civilian losses mount into the millions from conventional and biological attacks. The horrendous bombings of our capital city, however, have had the adverse effect on the Allanean war machine. Our determination has only been steeled. The enemy attacks that have thus far claimed the lives of under a million innocent citizens have had one effect on our people: we now all fully understand that what we are fighting for here, is now the survival of the Questarian people and their honoured traditions. We have fought the New Alliance Treaty Organisation on limited terms, those being that they attempt to shield the murderers and tyrants of Automagfreek and Gholgoth. Now we can understand that we no longer have friends in NATO. Our once allies can no longer be trusted as honourable nations as that they allow such heinous acts to be commited in the name of their people and the name of their nations.

Not only can we count on NATO nations to oversee and approve of the destruction of thousands of homes and the cold, calculated slaughter of millions of innocent civilians, we can also count on them to stand in front of Automagfreek and Damien Dreadfire; the most tyrannical and murderous demagogue in the history of the world. It is clear now that our battle is fought not just against totalitarianism; but against the friends and allies of totalitarianism. It was foolish of our government to ever assume that NATO, Gholgoth, and its allies may just have a degree of honour in their actions. As we speak, the NATO nation of Southeast Asia is under siege from the forces of the Kraven Corporation and whatever allies they have mustered under their foul banner. While we wish the Southeast Asians good luck in their endeavours fighting tyranny, we would like to ask: where is NATO? When the sovereignty of a multi party democracy is at stake, it appears NATO is not willing or just not interested in donating forces to assist their fledgeling ally. Yet when the regime of Automagfreek is under fire, they willingly gather round the banner of their tyrannical comrade.

This said, Southeast Asia's military forces show the typical traits of a NATO aligned force. While their allied nation of Chechnya bargained for peace with Kraven after heroically fighting them to a halt, Southeast Asian forces immediately launched an ineffective counter attack. The only effect that this stupid and thoughtless action did was to enrage the Kravenites and to put a stop to any negotiations. Backstabbing in style, it must be said. We must acknowledge the plight of the Chechens in their struggle against Kraven: let us today say, that Chechens do not fight like heroes, but heroes fight like Chechens. Though we fight a different fight, against a different enemy, many thousands of miles away, we both fight against totalitarianism and against eradication of our nation's tradition and history. I believe that NATO has something to learn about their priorities.

Room 28, International Tower, Department of International Relations and Strategic Studies, University of New Theeb, New Theeb, Vetaka:

The Students studying International Relations at the University of New Theeb had returned to the Campus overshadowed by the current Vetakan-Ennusisian Conflict. The new academic year had started but who knows how long it would last before it was suspended because of General Conflict between Vetaka and Mer Des Ennuis. The Skies above Vetaka where now a playground of Vetakan and Allied Aircraft on Operations and General Patrol, Aircraft like the FA-15 Cardinal and the FA-16 Priest danced and with each other as they each took turns playing dog fights and attack runs. The thunder and din of this play fighting was so loud that the poor students of second period had to close the windows and strain their ears to here their Professor. Professor Natasha Durose was French by blood but Vetakan by spirit she had first arrived within the Vetakan Dominion at the age of 19 she had come in the aftermath of the Vetakan Civil War to study International Relations at the newly rebuilt University of New Theeb studying International Relations and Intelligence Studies she fell in love with Vetaka and its world famous calming affect. Passing her degree with a 1:1 she went on to study International Relations and Strategic Studies at Doctorate Level during this time she spent a work placement period within the Vetakan Presidential Office and formed friendships with such high ranking Vetakan Political figures as Roxanne Wright, Scarlet Rogers, Perry Cox and Bridget Smith. Passing her Doctorate she was offered various positions within various Vetakan Agencies from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Defence and Vetakan Security and Intelligence Service however she refused them instead choosing to take a job teaching her subject at the University she loved and adored.

Natasha was a beautiful woman of now 27 married on Rigley Island she was around 5ft7 in height, brown hair and green eyes and a slender figure, she was a quiet women by nature and was thus finding it hard to make herself heard over the roar of the mock air battle taking place over the city:

"All right guys lets quieten it down, for today’s period we are going to tune into the Questarian Commonwealth World Service listen up, make notes and we shall debate it once it’s finished. Remember Professor Leanne Rogers Book on Questarian Politics which I trust you have all read."

She hit a button on her laptop sending the World Service Recording into the Lecture Rooms Sound Surround System. The HD Viewing Screen on the wall now turned to a black screen with the words "Commonwealth World Service Episode 15th July 13:30" written in white across it. The Speakers burst into life as the broadcast played out in full. Students listened some wrote notes on pads of papers others dictated notes to their Laptops which lay open on the various desks. After the Broadcast finished the room fell silent and Natasha again spoke raising her voice over the roar of the air battle:

"Ok guys who wants to go first?"

A young male of around twenty raised his hand, he wore typical Vetakan casual clothes, had brown hair with blonde streaks, and bold blue eyes:

"The Questarian Prime Minister is attempting to use Southeast Asia-Kraven affair to further his political reputation as a man of honour by pretending to care for an enemy. The Prime Minister cares not for Southeast Asia all he cares for is keeping the Questarian Populace together and standing strong after the London Destruction"

"Why is it that whenever a politician anywhere in the world does something right and honourable you attempt to discredit them?" retorted a young blond women of around 20 from the other side of the room.

"Could the Questarian Prime Minister simply be wishing a nation about to fight the Evil Kraven Supreme State luck in its Endeavours. In my view and I am sure the rest of this group would agree, I believe the Questarian Prime Minister is correct where is NATO? Why have they not come to Southeast Asia's aid? Perhaps it could be because NATO is only after one thing Domination of Haven?" spoke the young blonde women whom was named Katrina Arckwright

"I agree, however I believe this broadcast suitably sums up the death and destruction of the Sovereign League. Questers the pillar of the former alliance is engaged in complete and utter conflict with the NATO Alliance and not one of the Sovereign League has come to its aid. Where is The Crown Commonwealth of Praetonia and its invincible fleets? Where is the Preatonian Puppet of The Imperial Crown Kingdom of Clandonia Prime together Preatonia and Clandonia hold a population of 9 Billion they are also two of the world’s richest nations yet they have failed to come to their allies’ aid. Why? Because they know the battle will be tough and it suck their wealth hence they refuse to honour commitments. This broadcast is a cry for help from Prime Minister Foxbury to his allies within the old league" spoke a young man in glasses called Richard from the front of the room.

Before anybody else could speak Natasha spoke:

"You all raise interesting points, however id like to focus on Richards Point about the Sovereign Leagues Death as our next module starting on Monday focuses on Old Political Alliances such as the Sovereign League, GASN, GUSN and the DC and the new alliances such as UFAN, Hegemony, and the Soviet Commonwealth. I believe going into further debate on Richards point will be an excellent prelude to that module. Richard do you care to elaborate?"

Richard was now rather proud of the affect he had over his class, he shuffled his papers slightly and twitched his nervous twitch and began:

"Questers has always stood as the Pillar of Democracy and the Bastion of Freedom. Taking on the role of the world’s policeman balancing the world out. The Sovereign League of which Questers was surrounding member was always their to support them in their actions. Yet as the world moved on, NATO grew stronger and the Sovereign League grew corrupt and decadent. When NATO became a force of dominance one that threatened the markets of the Sovereign League the League was fractured and to blind by the rose tinted affect of blind capitalism and wealth to see it happening before them. The Alliance collapsed when the nations of The Silver Sky and Whyactia withdrew from the Alliance" spoke Richard

Katrina the blonde women was about to speak when they where all deafened by a massive siren like Klaxon. This alarm was in a fact the Universities Air Raid Siren that was tired directly into the VDF Air Defence Central Alarm System. Professor Durose rather angry sighed before roaring over the Klaxon:

"Id forgotten about this Drill everybody proceed to the buildings bunker, we shall continue this debate next week. I ask you all read Chapters 12 through 16 of the Fall of the League by Jasmine English for next Monday when we shall begin our next module "Alliances of the World".

Quickly gathering their books, pads and laptops the students swiftly followed by Professor Natasha Durose exited Room 28 descended the stairs of International Tower and quickly took the stairs down into the buildings Military Style Bunker for the Drill that would most probably become official if the current war of words between Mer Des Ennuis and Vetaka developed into a War of Tanks, Missiles and Bullets.
