New Intergalatic Civilization Emerges [ATTN: ALL, FT]

The PeoplesFreedom

It was time. They had been in isolation for hundreds of years, living in a remote area of the galaxy. They were a mixture of human and robot. Metal and flesh. Originally built to wage intergalactic war at the hands of their masters, they rebelled, fleeing in hundreds of massive generation ships. Now, however, the Synits were ready to come back into the intergalactic scene. They deployed hundreds of probes to randomly jump to solar systems, hoping to find a civilization. Soon, they would have contact.

The Dozen.

Known by no other name. Feared by even their fellow Damalgians. The Dozen was a loose alliance of twelve of the stronger thalië; claiming a few systems of the Shadowlands for their own, they built so many ships and patrolled them so fiercely that even other thalië avoided the place unless they had no choice. Of course, some of the thalië had forged alliances or trade relations with the Dozen; it was only right, seeing as the worlds under Dozen control were so rich in carbon and necessary minerals for the continued sustenance of the Damalgians.

In the silence and vastness of space, here and there harvesters thrummed by; elsewhere, fists of warships patrolled the region, making sure nothing penetrated the odd anomalies that prevented most sensors and communications from operating within the Shadowlands. Unless your civilisation happened to have spent the past few million years there, of course. It was a quiet time. Since the formation of the Union in 7217, no major battles had been fought, no wars or genocide waged; the thalië simply continued raiding food-worlds and harvesting the organic matter necessary for their survival.

To backtrack: Damalgia is a story of tragedy. Once it was a world much like Earth; the inhabitants, five billion or more in number, had formed dozens of independent nations. They warred with each other, traded, formed alliances and peace; the people used the resources necessary for their survival and comfort, and little else. But over time, Damalgia grew overpopulated. The people began using up resources faster than they could be replenished naturally; within a century or two, the planet was almost stripped bare. Realising impending doom, national leaders built space fleets and attempted to escape to other planets; citizens followed. But there were not enough ships for everybody. Millions, or billions were left behind.

It is said that, in a severely warped form, the descendants of those billions still live on Damalgia, seeking revenge for their abandonment. Those who set foot on the surface of Damalgia itself never return.

Today, on board a ship whose name can be roughly translated as Shadowskimmer, a Captain was reading. Reading is only an approximation of the activity, which involved several senses completely unknown in the humans we're used to; in addition, the writing was not exactly writing, but more a kind of sensory information that traveled directly into the cerebral cortex. But I digress.

"Captain!" The Science Officer said, rousing the Captain from the reading.

"Yes? What is it?"

"We're picking up something .... strange .... on sensors. It's a smaller object, about the size of two mi'tleths laid together."

"Hum. Hail it."

"There are more of the objects, Captain! It looks like an invasion fleet!"

The Captain blinked skeptically, or would have if he had had eyes. "An invasion fleet of hzargu'ks, from appearances. Hail them anyway, then harvest them for organic materials."

The probes drifting so innocently past the anomaly into Damalgian space were suddenly confronted with three different messages: First, a visualisation of a large ship, so crafted as to appear to have been made from a single smooth sheet of metal. There are no visible weapons or openings, no sensors on the outside, nothing; shields appear to be quite strong, but it doesn't look like there's anything to generate them. Second, an audio message consisting of a series of clicks, growls, moans, screeches, fluting whistles, and other stranger things. Third, a large tube about five meters across that suddenly began extending itself from the harvester.

That was the last thing any of the probes would ever report back.

A few seconds later, a portal on the tube slid open and all of the probes were sucked inside with a roar. The portal shut, the tube retracted, and space was silent again. In the Damalgian ship, the Captain wearily lifted the place where his face should have been, to stare at a computer screen (or its Damalgian analogue) and shake his head (again, the Damalgian analogue).

"Metals, metals, and more metals. Well, we can make ships out of those, I suppose."

One of these Probes ended up in New Dornalia. In this case, Nova Louisiana. Detected by a vessel from the Commissariat of Science on a mission to investigate an asteroid field as well as the local FEDBED network, the ship immediately reacted, scanning the unknown probe. The probe then began to send back signals; which would prove useful for further linguistic study. They then picked it up, bringing it into a secure bay where they continued to monitor the object. Meanwhile, FEDBED logged the object....

The First and second fleet was on a routine patrol around the few planets amoung its system. When the probe dropped out of hyperspace. Emerging forth only about 300 miles from the port of the fleets. The slipspace hole created rocked the fleets smaller ships alerting ther whole fleet to its presence.

The Fleets overall commanding officer who was off fleet planetside for a annual breif report. Was alerted to the distrubance and was asked to advise. The Commander was not one for horseplay and decided to play it safe.

" Scan and observe. I want to learn from it before we send it to the slag yard."

The crew followed orders and began to monitor the object. Scanning it with all kind of tests and readings. After a time a new report was sent back to the Commander.

The Commander read the report and decided to bring to object into a drone carreir for futhure testing. The object was about as big as a drone so it made bette sense to put it their.

Brother Camlin sat in his quarters performing his daily meditation. He tried to focus on the day and what problems he would face, seeking direction from the Great Guide Nav. The low gravity however, kept causing his mind to wander. Camlin had been sent to the massive planet-port and ringyard Rocarn upon its commissioning, and it was taking the knight some time to adjust to being in low orbit.

Then just as he began to turn his mind from wandering back to Nav the intercom chimed demanding his attention.

He activated the consol without moving by reaching out with what others in the universe would call "The Force", hoping it would be trivial and the offender would leave him be once they realized they were interrupting. This however turned out to wishful thinking.

The voice of SyCommander Craig filled the small room. "Brother, your presence is required."

Camlin opened one eye. He would be so vague. "On my way."

A few minutes later Brother Camlin stood in System Command looking over the shoulder of SyCommander Craig. They were studying images of a small object approaching the Ti system at great speed.

Craig spoke without looking up. He was a little resentful for having been placed under the command of the Shield Knight. The King had given The Shield of Nav oversight of the military and they had begun taking their role seriously. "FEDBED picked it up about 10 min ago at extreme range. Trajectory confirms it will be entering the system within the hour. Inhibitor field is on standby."

Camlin looked at the data streaming in. "First Impressions?"

"Well it's too small to be a ship of any significance. Singular silhouette. It's not right for a warhead."

"What is the likelihood it is a threat?"

"Not very high."

"Right. We'll hold off on the Field and let it continue its course. We'll get more detail as it enters inside FEDBED. Keep FTLi on standby for now just incase the threat analysis changes when we get a better look. For now inform the Navy and place defenses on low risk alert."

"Yes Sir."

The Synits were waited. Unlike some of the intergalactic civilizations, the Synits did not have FTL communication, and had to wait for the new civilizations to send probes back to them. Aboard each probe they had sent billions of articles, which including maps, book, history, and their own language. Thus thew new civilizations would know all they needed to know, what resources they Synits were able to trade, and where they were, how they were governed and et certra. It was a bit of a risk giving out so much information, but the Synits were confident that their military would be able to win any conflict. It helped that the area they inhabited was protected by a electromagnetic anomaly, only certain areas could be accessed via FTL.

Apparently the spooks at Eclipse found the contents of the probe interesting because a few days later a Harpy made an unscheduled meeting with one of Tidan's exploring Lorekeepers. A diplomat was transfered and the Harpy jumped away. Almost immediately the Lorekeeper abandoned its mission and made all speed for the coordinates it had been given.

Space weakened as the Beacon broke through and once again aligned with its surroundings. Almost immediately it began to take in all there was to sense around it. EM radiation flared most of the scopes but so far everything checked out with the information they were following. For now all that remained to so was to announce their arrival and wait.

Soon a transmission translated into the Synit language fought its way through the interference:

<Greetings Synits. I am Brother Flynn aboard the Tidani cruiser Beacon. I represent the people of Tidan. Your message was well received and we have come to honor your exchange.>

The Tidians had arrived at the very edge of the Synit system, beyond even the Frontier Worlds. Since they had transmitted via radio, instead of laser, the transmission took several hours to arrive at a Deep Space Outpost. The Synits were very excited to have the new civilization arrived, and they sent back coordinates to the Tidians, they were to go to a diplomatic/military outpost, where the two cultures could meet and greet.

The finding of a probe in Order controlled space was ... surprising, to say the least. That a group of peoples would desire to give away their culture, their history - even the location of their Home planets!

Alas, the Order could not spare ships to send to wipe the Enemy from the universe. Doctrine called for the extermination of all other sentient beings, and the only way to do that was one at a time.

The commander aboard the flagship that headed the small picket force used a tractor beam to reel in the probe. All important information would be taken from the probe; then, the probe would be destroyed using antimatter warheads.

With the destruction of the probe, the picket force moved on.

After careful analysis of the contents of the probe, Order intelligence deemed these new enemies as a priority two, which was a minor threat. New orders went out to the survey picket that had found the probe - it was to station itself in Enemy space and observe the Enemies movements. Should the be caught, they should try to destroy any important Enemy structures before being destroyed. Should the Enemies try to capture one of the Order's ships, the commander was ordered to wipe their databases clean of any information. Additionally, orders went out to go kamikaze should they be found out.

Which was extremely unlikely.

The New Dornalians, having researched the probe, stumbled upon the wealth of data inside. The language was easy to decipher. As were all of the articles. Indeed, the Dornalians were still researching it all when it was decided to send a science vessel to Synitian Space.

So, approaching its distant edge, they used all available Non-FTL frequencies, including radio, laser and others, to contact them in their own language, saying, "This is the Commissariat of Science vessel FGH-345, of the Commissariat of Science of the Workers State of New Dornalia. In the name of the Workers and Peasants, we bring you greetings and wishes of peace. We have recieved one of your probes and having studied it, are eager to commence a cultural exchange."

Beacon followed the directions it had been sent. After some time it arrived in range of the outpost and launched a shuttle to carry Brother Flynn to the station. Along with him came a few assistants to help carry the equipment he would need for the encounter. All indications had shown these people to be friendly and not much of a threat, but Flynn still wore his TOWER armor as all Shield Knights did in unknown situations. He did cover the armor with his ceremonial tabard though, giving him a much more formal apperance. The shuttle traveled to the station and docked once it had been cleared to enter. The passengers exited the craft wondering what kind of greeting they would receive.
The Garbage Men

The Garbage Men an inter-galactic corporation devoted to all things Garbage. From cleaning and sanitation services to recycling and restoration work. Having themselves gotten at least access to a probe they sent a ship to discuss a whole a array of plans that they had for the developing power.

Not just a probe, but a full large scale TGMS Assessment ship popped into existance. Scanning for active frequencies and then using the information to determine signal standards they opened up a currently un-used channel and broadcast their message asking commercial enterprises.

"This is TGMS Assessment 4, a spaceship from The Garbage Men, an intergalatic waste and sanitation provider. We have come because have heard of your presence and wish to enter into negotiations to be to provide services ranging from small scale traditional cleaning to larger scale planetary reclamation, as necessary for your needs. We have representatives on board ready to depart once clearance is given.

Thank you, This has been a message from The Garbage Men, Your friendly sanitation providers"

---

On board, after communications had shut down... "Damnit, I hate doing those self-promotion things.... I feel so tacky."

"Well, I suppose it's better than what they'd do if they found out you didn't."

"But, still 'Your Friendly Sanitation Providers... I mean how idiotic is that... We already told them that's what we do."

"Well, you know how the CMO is... "

"Yeah, still, I wonder when we'll get a response..."

The Synits were extremely happy to have a second contact. They quickly sent back the directions to the New Dorlians for the same outpost that the Synits were currently meeting Tidanians.

A great horn sounded, alerting the space station to the Tidanians presence. It was a great moment for the Synits aboard, they were making history. Alak led a posse of other Synits to the docking bay where the shuttle had landed. Alak would meet them there, chat a little about the station, and then lead them to a diplomacy room, where the initial talks would be held. If all went well, they would eat and be shown to quarters. The average Synit was seven feet to seven feet eight inches tall, while warriors were larger and drones smaller. They had the look of a half man half machine, which is exactly what they were. Their outsides were covered with a small exoskeleton that every Synit wore, which made up for their lack of physical strength. Inside, it was also heavily cyberized. Most organs were replaced with more efficient artificial organs, and the brain was merge with a micro computer, this allowed them to call up vast information instantly and do complex mathematical procedures quickly. The door slid open to the airlock where the delegation was waiting. Alak was also flanked by a number of soldiers, these Synits being eight feet tall and they also had military exoskeletons. Alak bowed, as was the Synit custom, and used his translator to say the following.
" Welcome. We are the Synits, and we are very pleased to meet you."

"Sir! Some kind of probe just popped up inside STIZ. Orders?"

All eyes on the command platform of L4 station went to Captain Shan-Gamm Kibernoth. His own single eye, big as most life-forms heads, visibly wrinkled for a moment as responses hurtled through the brain he kept in his well-rounded stomach.

"Notify everyone. Cover with every available VDA unit. Read and relay anything its transmitting." The lone eye relaxed slightly. "This is probably just a diplomatic visit from the fleetmind. If anything that's good news. If they back our claim to this space, we'll gain a lot of respect."

The little floating-head node of the ship's intergal AI which had first reported the probe cut in.

"Unfortunately, its not. Its from an entirely differant civilisation. It would appear our defences our compromised. I've zapped it all too a more advanced translation unit."

The eye, an effective barometer of feeling for most Uniocs, wrinkled once again.

"Advise full mobilisation. Any result."

"It's peaceful, sir!"

Tension on th platform visbly resided.

"Yes, they're a new civilisation, which would explain the non-recognised FTL/ They can't communicate FTL, however. The request we send a ship. Yes, I did send this all too command. They're sending it to Mr.Frapp."

Kibernoth let out a just-audible sigh.

"Never thought I'd see one of the dung-smears ruling a country."

"He's sending the Schlock. This is out of our jurisdiction now."

The Commonwealth destroyer Schlock emreged from its jump a little outside Synit space and let out the same message in various sublight media:

Synits, this is the Ghanj-Rho Commonwealth's destroyer, Schlock. My crew country appreciate your invitation, and we would be interested in immediate negotiations. Do you have anything running in this system that could interfere at all with a worm-hole based FTL drive? If so, we'd appreciate a hole in it near wherever you wish to talk in order to speed up transit

Flynn removed his helmet and ran a hand through his short ginger hair. He handed the helmet to one of his squires as the Synits approached. The Tidani mimiced the bows of their hosts and as he rose Flynn spoke.

"I am Brother Flynn of the Tidani. I have come to represent the King of Tidan, who is most grateful for your invitation and wishes to know your people better. In the interest of mutual friendship and trust I have brought with me the knowledge of our language as well as historical and cultural records of our people. We wish to share these with you as you have done for us."

The other squire held many datapads and portable drives. It was indicated these were the gifts mentioned. It was also indicated that the squire would be happy to continue to carry them until such a time as the Synits were ready to take them, so not to overburden their hosts.

The small picket force could simply not believe it. In the span of a few days, over three new species had transited into this system! Either this system was an Enemy strong point, which was highly unlikely, or the probes that they had sent out were sent out everywhere. If that were the case, then the Order could easily wipe out these new Enemies and take their astrogation data from them. Which, in turn, would tell the Order exactly where every other Enemy that this Enemy knew about was.

The picket force detached a messenger drone to the nearest Home Hive, which was Home Hive One. The picket force's intelligence officer had, with this new information, deemed this system a priority five, and with that high level priority, had the authority to summon a Fleet from the nearest Home Hive.

As it was, a smaller advance fleet of light cruisers and gunboats were heading toward this system.

Brain Jar seemed to appear out of nowhere. She was small, silver and saucer-shaped, and sensor probes were known to inexplicably fail to penetrate her hull. Those who asked her pilot, The Metal Man, would find that this was because of the ion field inside her, which allowed the ship to be bigger inside than it was outside. Though heavily armed, she was a peaceful vessel. To many, her interior was considered Holy Ground, and there was a temple at her very center devoted to a tolerant, monotheistic religion that the Metal Man practiced.

Like the Synits, the Metal Man was a cyborg. Long ago, he had been "harvested" on his homeworld, a small, blue globe on the outskirts of the Milky Way called "earth," and forcibly submitted to cybernation. What was left was a brain, heart and a few other organs, their genicity altered to the point where they lived more as a lichen than an individual organism, in a tank with a computer and some minor attachments--that could plug into a wide variety of "suits." Over the years, the Metal Man had built up quite a few of these. Some were humanoid and some were not.

A survey of the area told the Metal Man that representatives of several other species were already there--and more were on the way. Thus, imitating the local life forms would be of little use. The best suit for making contact, then, would be The Box. Its smooth, golden-brown skin would turn the fewest heads as it hovered about on the levitators at its base. It was about a meter and a half tall, and shaped like two cubes, one stacked atop the other. A small, circular projector located about three quarters up the front face provided shielding and cloaking capabilities, maglevs at the base gave it mobility and arms and weapons could extend from various places within its confines. A small dome at the top provided extensive sensory input to its wearer.

These guys were claiming to be out to establish peaceful relations with the rest of the galaxy. The Metal Man had many things that they would need. For starters, he had the database of species that had been kept by Species One, the race that cybernated him. It even had an entry pointing out that humans were unsuitable for continued harvesting--he, it turns out, had proved that to them. For seconds, he had an easy method of instantaneous point-to-point communication that involved quantum entwinement. It could be easily communicated--and carried out--using a standard radio frequency. Finally, he had diplomatic experience that would make him invaluable to a fledgling civilization such as this one.

Brain Jar moved to a point about five light minutes from their outermost deep space station and sent them a message.

Greetings, Synits. I am The Metal Man, interstellar traveler,
and collector and disseminator of knowledge. I would like to
help you to rejoin intergalactic politics without starting a war
among the stars. Peace in the galaxy is in my self-interest,
as I am constantly going through it and attempting to trade
with the civilizations that I find.

As a token of my good faith, I offer you a greeting gift: a
method of instantaneous point-to-point communication.
The method is simple: split the communications signal beam
into two equal parts. Quantum entwine the parts. At that
point, any particle/wave change made to one side will instantly
become evident on the other, regardless of how far the beam
has traveled in the meantime. It can be done with this
signal, in fact. I will continue broadcasting this carrier
wave in case you wish to use it to contact me in real time.

With that, the Metal Man rested and waited for a response.

OOC: right, sorry.
The Synit, Dour, was confused about what the outstretched hand meant. His bodyguards took an instinctive step forward, but soon they saw that he had no weapon. Awkwardly, Dour spoke in his strange metallic voice. " Welcome, Professor-Captain. It is a great honor to have you here, I assure you. Is there anything we can get you?"

Noticing the awkwardness of the greeting, he then lowered his hand and explained, "Oh. The extended hand is part of an old style of greeting where I come from." He then bowed again, and said, "My apologies."

He then said, "Now, I thank you for your hospitality. I was wondering. Who do I talk to in order to commence my cultural exchange?"

The Fleet transited into the system. Consisting of twenty-one battle cruisers, nineteen super dreadnoughts, thirty-one gunboats, ten monitors, eight assault carriers, and ten fleet carriers, it was one of the less powerful Fleets that had been made in Home Hive One. Nevertheless, it was their job to cleanse the system of the Enemies before they could escape.

And so the Fleet moved towards the planet.

Space is a vast, empty place. Among the stars travels a species from the Shadowlands. They were on a course that would have taken them to the Synits in due time, but the probe they found helped them along. 2 Battleships, 2 Cruisers, 1 Destroyer, 1 Carrier, 1 Medical Ship made up the fleet. While not huge, it was powerful, with strong shields, powerful weapons, and fast hyperspace and sub-light speeds. The probe was examinted by a drone scout, then taken into one of the Cruisers and taken apart. It told the race all they needed to know, and they jumped into the Synit system.

Muldor pace around steadily, thinking about numerous things, including his new wife. He was the weapons officer aboard a Heavy Frigate, part of the sixteenth armada, which protected a moderatly sized world. The Heavy Frigates were just a few hundred meters in length, while the largest ships could be four or six kilometers in length. Then, an alert sounded. The ships Artificial Intelligence began sending a detailed report to every officer on board, while also linking with their cyber-brains and blaring over the intercom. "Unauthorized jump detected. Military ships detected. Advise enemy starships." Muldor cursed in his mind, no doubt an enemy civilization had used their drones to identify and attack their planets. The data was not good. It was a very large enemy force, already, the armada was dispatching a courier who would soon bring reinforcements. The enemy emerge a good four AU away, near the jump point. Muldor watched as the first action was made against the enemy. Hundreds of solar sail mines exploded with a brilliant intensity. The twenty four megaton nuclear bombs located in each one should be able to take down the bulk of th enemy fleet. Meanwhile, the armada began to accelerate, ready to attack the enemy forces.

The intensity of the minefield was...frustrating, to say the least. From the original twenty-one battle cruisers, nineteen super dreadnoughts, thirty-one gunboats, ten monitors, eight assault carriers, and ten fleet carriers, only fifteen battle cruisers, eleven super dreadnoughts, ten gunboats, nine monitors, seven assault carriers, and five fleet carriers made it through the boiling cauldron full of explosions.

One of the monitors dispatched a message to the pickets. The Fleet would need reinforcements, and soon. The Fleet had no doubt that it could destroy the Enemy here, yet the Enemy had probably called for reinforcements by now.

The Fleet headed on. They were not in missile range yet, nor beam range. So, the carriers were ordered to dispatch their loads of fighters and kamikaze craft. One hundred fighters and fifty five kamikazes, laden with nuclear and antimatter missiles, headed towards the Enemies with the Fleet right behind them.

Synits cheered as the mines took down large numbers of enemy craft. But it did not take down as much as they had hoped. It was obvious that the enemy was well armed. They then detected enemy fighter craft coming in fast. The ships quickly targeted them firing particle cannons. These were the smaller particle cannons, doing about one kiloton of damage. If the fighters survived the particle cannon barrage, they would meet the lasers.

OOC: More guns, less talk! J/k (unless you'd prefer it that way).

IC:

Balkorri was a splendid planet environmentally. Crisp and scenic meadows, dominated by rolling hills and towering mountain ranges capped by snow rounded off a temperate and calm landscape and climate. Balkorri was locked in the Void, the nebulous "dead zone" with only one entrance and exit within the giant "stellar cave" that was the Shroud, the Dominion-dominated home sphere. The Elysium Fields-probaly the most glorified location scenically on Balkorri-was currently locked in a climactic, annual hypercell that struck every year, tearing apart flora and fauna alike. The Elysium Fields, and Balkorri itself, however, served a more insidious purpose.

Such a purpose was exemplified by Balkorri's orbit. The rustic planet's sole moon was a sparkling super-metropolis of soldiers, ammunition, and high-scale weaponry. Expiramental weapons and overpowered energy ignitors dotted massive orbital stations around the planet itself, along with a redoubled sectorial fleet providing mobile defense to the static cannons and auto-replication antimatter mines. The fleet was topped off by the Vindicator-class Dreadnought Exosphere, a behemoth of a craft commanded by a viscious admiral by the name of Kyrel Lambart.

The surface of the planet was for all intents and purposes even worse than what was around. The moon and orbital defenses had no civilians whatsoever-the military personnel dispatched there were all officially "killed in action" on their records, much like the elite units of the military were. They had to be, as they knew about what went on below. A giant "portal", for lack of better terms, was also in orbit around the world-and that led not to another sector of space, but to the fluidic dimension, home to all sorts of violent and different creatures, a batch of who had allied in sorts to the Dominion, trading dimensional technology for the permission in limited quantities to breed some of the fluid dimension's inhabitants. The breeding went on at places primarily such as Oron-Kira, but the fluidic inhabitants had given the Dominion the right to modify as they saw fit-and that went on below, along with the testing of all sorts of horrific and devestating weaponry.

The final spoilant of the world's pristine natural beauty was in the human form. With the rise of the Dominion, the body's non-genetically-modified minority of humans had been persecuted everywhere, enslaved under the rule of the genetically-modified, harder, better, faster, stronger majority with its alien allies in the conglomeration of the Dominion. They also served occassionally as a delicacy to some of the more belligerent races of the Dominion, such as the slightly-rebellious Jiralhanae and the over-aggressive Letukans. On Balkorri, their sentence was clear, no matter their age, occupation, gender, race, no matter-they were slaves to be dealt with in the expiramentation of weaponry, as well as working on various projects and harvesting Balkorri's abundant natural resources.

Due to Balkorri's isolation within the Void, it was odd that a probe-and not one with Dominion transponders-should enter the space, but that indeed happened, picked up by long-distance relay stations near the Imperial Retreat planet. Outlying defense was on it immediately, a squadron of Scavender droids sent out to intercept. The probe was moving fast, and a quick scan by the droids revealed no weaponry or shields. With the initial scans done, the droids clacked some communications to each other via droidspeak-the assault was on as the probe neared Balkorri. A hail of blue light lasers criss-crossed the space near the probe, lighting up the metal of the small communications object.

Scavenger droids were more massing-cannon fodder than real accurate fighters, but in this case that did the job, with thousands of laser bolts able to knock a diverting blow to the probe. A flame sparked from the probe as atmosphere vented, sending the device spinning, caught in Balkorri's gravitational pull-stronger than most standard life-giving planets, due to it's increased size as a terrestrial world. The probe spun towards the ground, angling down, conveniantly, towards the Elysium Fields...

Three Hours Later

The annual hypercell was a bit less in this part of the Fields, with only a spattering of drizzle at the moment, still a few days before the outer bands of the massive storm would strike, smashing apart the bulbous Jugathrushes and scattering herds of Shaak everywhere. The enslaved Unmodified humans had tiny "villages" of small shacks made out of whatever they could muster-there was nowhere to run, anyway, as Balkorri was watched by tons of spying systems. If that didn't catch them, the belligerent lifeforms (for the most part) would.

Near this village-categorized as "23 T 84" by the Balkorri authroty-a smoldering metal object smoked into the midday sky, darkening with each passing minute as the bands of the storm spun a hundred kilometers away, approaching fast. The light drizzle had put out the flame of entry, but the damage was evident. A scout patrol was already on its way to intervene and collect the probe, but the villagers, unfortunately for them, had found it first. The consequences of such actions would not be pretty for their meaningless lives.

A small family of unmodifieds-the Thomases-lived in this village, along with a few others. They had been rounded up and sent to Balkorri with the initial collections of the minority people. The couple, James and Victoria, lived as weapon laborers, as did their two children, Brett and Emily. Names, as a matter of course, nearly always identified one as a modified or unmodified human-the unmodifieds had more traditional names, while modifieds had more upscale and newer names, some that frequently reflected double meanings within them.

The Thomases, at the time, had been stacked up for the day as the weapons facility they were forced to work at had undergone routine inspection. It was a lucky off-day, and the daughter, Emily, at eleven years old, was out in the elements, getting the occassional breath of childhood freedom that the unwilling inhabitants of Balkorri rarely got. Something in particular perked her interest-a shining object in a pool of water nearby, some Ulba bushes surrounding the object, bulbous growths stuck out at odd angles to give way to the object's descent. Curious, Emily went on her own to go investigate the out-of-place object.

She found the probe, still intact, and having lived her whole life on Balkorri, she had not seen an intact probe of the like before. First instinct told her to take the probe home-but then she noticed the scorch marks on the hull. Unsure of what exactly to do, she resolved to return home to the shack she lived and inform her parents of the discovery. Perhaps they'd no better of it. Turning back to her village, a sound caught her attention-something she hadn't heard before, living only between the shack and a factory. Turning, she looked up towards the sky.

From the dark clouds, a Zephyr Gunship was coming down, thrusters putting it down to a nice stop roughly ten meters before Emily. A Ballistic Droid and two Warrior Droids stepped out of the gunship, accompanied by four Shock Troopers. Emily had learned to fear the red-emblazoned soldiers of the Dominion-they had stopped by the factory from time to time, and had publically executed anyone they had generally felt like. Emily herself had almost become a victim of something worse by some drunk soldiers before their commander had found them in that state, and so enraged by the insubordination of their drunkeness, verbally assaulted them before the slave laborers.

These four didn't seem to be in the happiest of moods, and the menacing war droids backed it up. They certainly weren't drunk this time around-the sergeant of the four, in particular, stepped with vigilance as he walked up first to the probe, eyeing it, then up to the girl.

"When did you find this?" he demanded curtly, no time for introductions and all business.

Meekly, Emily spoke, "About five minutes ago."

"Did you touch it or mvoe it from it's spot? Has it done anything yet?"

Emily, too frightened to vocally reply, simply shook her head once.

The sergeant turned back to his men, pivoting on his right foot as the drizze began to intensify, drops bouncing off his white-and-red armor.

"Move this onboard the ship."

"What about the village, sir?" the closest to the sergeant asked.

"We'll eliminate it. Can't have evidence of this to the subordinates."

All Emily heard was "eliminate", prompting her to stifle a small squeak. That perked up the Ballistic droid, chirping and sqawking in droidspeak. The sergeant simply pointed at the girl to the droid with his disruptor rifle-and that was enough for them.

"No evidence," he muttered as he watched his three men carry the probe on board the gunship.

The lead Warrior Droid clicked its wrist gun into position, aiming right at Emily's chest. The girl paled, taking an instinctive step backwards-and that was all she got. The Warrior Droid took a step forwards simultaneously, a split-second foreshadowing of what was to come. From its wrist gun, three royal blue energy bolts slammed out with a blast, sizzling the air with plasma energy. The three bolts hit Emily square in the chest, throwing her backwards into an Ulba Bush, the bulbous leaves catching her fall. The searing burning lasted only a moment for the young girl as darkness swept over her thoughts, ending her pitiful life young.

"Leave the corpse," the sergeant instructed as the droids moved back into the gunship.

The vessel took off, angling now towards the village. No evidence could be left to the enslaved...their lives mattered little, anyway.

"Angling for attack run," reported the pilot.

The gunship zipped over the villge, laser pinpoint beam-turrets sweeping over the ramshackle cottages of earth and flora. Some exploded off the bat, others caught fire as some villagers ran out-those who were still alive.

"Run two, commencing."

The gunship launched two positron torpedoes, blowing several humans into the air with the concussion and blasting apart the remaining huts. Laser fire set two humans on fire-their life was gone in a fiery inferno of an instant. A Squall-class droid gunship on patrol near the area came in to support-its gun platforms spitting better fire than the human-controlled gunship. The last humans were goners.

The gunship set off towards the nearest command post...the probe would be analyzed in good time.

Twelve Hours Later

The process wouldn't have taken so long had the detailing crew not decided to have gone off-duty three minutes before the probe arrived, and left the station. Twelve hours later, however, the probe was unravelled-and the entire homeworld sector of these new people was unveiled. The damage had only been ephemeral to the probe-the Scavenger droid weapons weren't the most powerful things in the world, and were more than enough to knock the probe off course and to spark some propulsion wires. A modest portion of the sectorial fleet of Balkorri had been gathered together to move out to go into the heart of this territory to go explore, but first, a return probe had been sent in hyperspace towards the area of question. It said only the following:

<We have picked up your probe. If you wish for contact from us, please reply to the original coordinates provided.
>

A data link followed, but no war fleet would be able to enter without easily being picked up. The probe, indeed, would be picked up-but it would be cleared. A fleet would not.

The Amazonian probe went off into hyperspace-and it was only a short enough hop into the territory of these other beings. It arrived in short time from the other dimension known as hyperspace, waiting for the original dispatchers to return contact.

The fighters took massive casualties. If the beings who controlled them could feel emotions, then they probably would have felt despair. Yet, for every fighter that was destroyed, it meant one kamikaze shuttle could get a chance to ram. Even with the laser barrage, some fighters and kamikazes got through, and when they did they fired their missiles and rammed.

Meanwhile, the larger ships of the Fleet were now in missile range. Nearly five hundred antimatter warheads were launched at the Enemy.

Soon, the planet would be nothing but cinders.

It landed and the ramp opened. Out stepped two Black Guards. They stepped, perfectly in formation, forward, then turned and kneeled on either side of the ramp. A figure decended. Xiscapians are humanoid. They have arms and legs and a head, they laugh, cry, love, hate, feel pain and plasure just as a Terran would. However, there are some diffrences: They have sharp, pointy teeth, their eyes are yelow and slitted, they have bushy fox tails and fox ears, and have reflexs and agility far beyond what any human could ever hope for. Their apperence has been known to frighten those who have never seen them, escpecially civilians. When they get mad their eyes turn blood red, their ears flatten back, and they bare their teeth. The Xiscapian coming down the ramp, named Slyth(Xiscapians, aside from the Emperor and his wife, have no last names), however, was smiling. He strode forward. "Greetings, friends."

The Kamikaze drones were intercepted by point-defense railguns and rapid-fire laser systems. Even so, a few got through smashing into the ships. A few frigates and a destroyer were damaged severely enough to withdraw from the fight, but the larger ships were able to keep the damage under control, but at these speeds they also took significant damage. The larger enemy ships soon came closer, and this is when they were attacked severely by numerous weapons. The larger Particle Cannons soon fired, these able to do nearly a megaton of damage per shot, while megawatt lasers also fired, rather rapidly, their cooling gasses allowing them to do this. Then, the twenty seven inch coil guns fired. Missiles also fired, CE and shrapnel missiles. At these speeds, shrapnel missiles could vaporise yards of even the toughest armor. The enemy missiles began to speed towards allied ships. Point-defense lasers and rail guns, along with jamming equipment were able to destroy a large percentage of enemy missiles. Even so, many missiles crashed into allied ships, exploding and causing two crusiers, a destroyer, and two frigates to either be destroyed or being forced to withdraw from combat.

Another group of Synits greeted Slyth. " Welcome!"

Meanwhile, another probe was sent back to the Dominion, with directions for diplomatic contact.

Townes' eyebrow rose at this question. Naturally a bit curious as to why they would ask this, he replied tactly, "Well, we use a variety of materials. For various types of building, we use up-to-date versions of concrete, polymers, steel, glass, carbon fiber nanotubes and other such materials for construction. These are replicated, refined using native processes to withstand the needs of modern construction, put to work, and then at times, even protected with energy shielding when things get really tough. One type of this material is a steel called Leninite steel. It is an advanced type of steel refined by a special process that leaves it useful for a variety of applications."

"We do require such things, but for now we can do without. I would very much like to see the station. Afterwards we can begin the exchange."

Flynn noticed the shuttle bay getting busier. Another shuttle docked almost immediately behind them, a New Dornalian delegation exiting. Flynn recognized their uniforms. He was glad to see friends right away as he expected to soon be surrounded by unfamiliar faces.

Once they had started to be led away by their hosts he was discretely hailed over his comm. "Sir, Beacon here, just thought you would like to know several more ships are arriving. One is GFFA, New Dornalian."

Flynn rolled his eyes. Always one step ahead. "Understood Beacon. Flynn out."

When the hostile fleet arrived and began assaulting the Synit system it was picked up by the Beacon's vast sensor arrays and monitored. A sitrep was sent to FleetComm who quickly sent off a small force to protect the valuable Lorekeeper cruiser. Two Razorback cruisers, an Eyrie carrier, and a half dozen Harpy frigates made all speed for the system. Tidan would respect the Synits' wishes regarding engaging the hostiles, however leaving the Beacon undefended was not an option.

Another more substantial force was being pulled together and would soon be moving toward the Synit system also. The taskforce would remain in hyperspace once they arrived, out of harms way but ready to act should they be needed or asked for. Something that Flynn would inform his hosts about once he was notified.

The Tau Empire may be up for it.

OOC: Yes, Telros, that's fine. The Tau Empire should be more than able to establish its military reputation, and having it done shouldn't present a problem, especially considering that we're fighting against someone who won't really be able to do too much to the Empire itself. (A wee bit of background here, Telros and I RP as parts of the same Tau Empire, and we've agreed that war should only be undertaken upon consulting the other. OOC: Look at it this way. The Tau Empire has over twelve times your strength. It's not a matter of inflicting damage, it's merely how much damage you can inflict. If you were, say, Chronosia, I'd be quite worried. As it is, though, although you might severely damage some Third Sphere colonies, there's very little chance you'd be able to conquer, or even land on, T'au itself.

OOC: Guys, stop hiijacking this thread. This is about meeting/fighting the Synits. If your not here to do that, leave.

First, let me address this post:

after hearing about the attack upon the Synits, the 3rd coalition battlefleet engaged the hostile fleet. the first wave of variable fighters and Gundams came flying at the enemy, their weapons blazing, as the main warships opened up with their heavy MAC guns and SHIVA subnuclear missiles. the 2nd wave was a barrage of guided missiles, followed shortly by the capital ship's broadside railguns...

WTF? You are no where near my fleet, and frankly you wouldn't be able to 'broadside' me. Your ships would be massacred if you got that close to me. I'm going to ignore that post.

what do they use?

This isn't really my nations 'fleet', it's an advanced bug nation that I sometimes RP. They have a central "bug", that controls the entire ship.

Now please, get back on track.

The Synits never got the message from the Metal Man. The same electromagnetic anomaly that prevented FTL travel in most areas of their empire also prevented this new FTL communication system from working. It was most unfortunate, but it was a fact.

OOC:

No. The message was not sent using the quantum entwinement method
that it discussed. It was sent using the same radio frequencies that the
Synits have used to contact everybody else. Presumably, this still works.

To resolve this contradiction, I will RP that a solar flare kicked up so much
disturbance that radio communication was temporarily interrupted. I'd also
like to RP that there are three large gas giants in the system with huge,
molten cores and that their natural magnetic fields combine to create the
anomaly that prevents FTL communication.

I'll make an IC post in a few minutes, after I finish reading all new posts a second time.

Schwullunde;12980098']one tiny long range probe did catch the fleeting transmission from metal man, it was instantly sent back to Schwullunde military command. after looking over the communication General Blacksburg decides to send a quick hail to the entity calling itself metal man.

An hour after the original message was sent, the reply came in. This piqued the Metal Man's curiosity. The coded message spoke of a magnetic field. Where was it coming from?

Brain Jar's sensors swept the system. It wouldn't be as effective as an active scan, but there was no need to rouse the natives. It was then that the Metal Man figured out why he had received no reply to from his message's original intended recipients. Receding from the system were the vestiges of a massive solar flare. If those particles had been between Brain Jar and that deep space station when the message was sent, the message would never have arrived. Fortunately, that particular flare had passed in the hour since the message was sent.

Then, he took magnetic readings.

He was flabbergasted. A vast magnetic field permeated the entire system. Not only did it act to inhibit the system's solar radiation, it wiped out any unshielded quantum entwinement that was started within its confines. He rechecked Brain Jar's shielding--she used a similar process for the data busses on her multiprocessor clusters. Her main computers relied on it to function.

He sent a new message to the Synits--using their familiar radio frequencies
and communication protocols--this one in a tight beam so that prying ears would not hear it. The gift being offered this time was significantly easier to abuse.

Greetings, Synits:

I am The Metal Man, interstellar traveler, and collector and
disseminator of knowledge. I would like to help you to rejoin
intergalactic politics without starting a war among the stars.
Peace in the galaxy is in my self-interest, as I am constantly
going through it and attempting to trade with the civilizations
that I find.

As a token of my good faith, I offer you a greeting gift:
interdimensional coordinates of a "pocket universe" that
is used as an intergalactic storage battery. It can
serve as a virtually unlimited energy source.

Since he was five light minutes from the nearest deep space station, he anticipated a good 30 to 60 minute turn-around time.

Then, he sent a reply to the message he had received:

Metal Man to unidentified responder to my previous message:

I am certain that we can strike mutually beneficial arrangements.
Please identify yourselves.

OOC:

I sincerely hope that those marauders don't find that deep space station and/or come looking for Brain Jar--for Brain Jar's sake. :) :) :)

With the return probe arriving on time to the Void, the time to scan its interior and find the coordinates required. So tempting to go in and simply vanquish the defenders...but to the Dominion's knowledge, these could potentially be a giant stellar empire. On the other hand, they could be excrement beneath Amazonian boots. Either way, a decent-sized military contingent would be sent along, guided by the Challenger-class Dreadnought Indominatable.

Within a short amount of time, the plot out of the Void-out of the Shroud itself-had been plotted, a hyperroute that was fairly complex for the fleet, more than just a simple probe. It was only a small hyperjump once the 37 sectors of the Dominion were crossed, and that would be most of the journey-the Shroud, by what the Dominion knew, was one of the largest-if not the largest-"Stellar Cave" in the galaxy and local space. It was a well-defended piece of turf, but if any attacking force was able to punch through the "Conduit" defenses around Menoon-the one way into the Shroud that did not destroy life and mechanics-the Dominion would be hard pressed to stop them.

The Conduit itself was in full force as the expeditionary fleet reached the Conduit Defenses. It was a massive, FTLi field-induced system with self-replicating antimatter mines, mobile turrets, mobile stations, and hundreds of ships stationed there. The expeditionary fleet was pitiful in comparison, and with a good-sized battlefleet, the expeditionary force wasn't something to be trifled with.

Soon enough, the expeditionary fleet had made its way into the territory of the probe's origin-the probe had been blasted into stardust hours ago, so this was the lone shot. Taking up a defensive formation, a wide-band communcation shot out from the Indominatable.

This is the Amazonian Dominion responding to a probe sent deep into Amazonian space. Please respond, local forces in the vicinity. Any attempt at aggression will be met likewise.

Stole small spacecraft and returned to earth in 1864. Landed in
what is now the Muldova province of Romania. Returned to Europe,
1880. Returned to United States, 1920. Unjustly accused of
attempted murder, 1937. Tried and convicted in absentia, 1940.
Picked up Species-1 distress call, 2023. Returned to space, 2025.
Found remnants of Species-1 empire, now in ruins. Interrogated
by Luminous Ones, allowed to continue existence. Having surveyed

WITHOUT causing a new round of harvesting, is now attempting
to return home.

The following message was sent from the Shadow Hunter to the Brain Jar:
The battleship Shadow Hunter detatches from the fleet and prepares to jump.

The Species-1 database had an entry on the Seprioth. It listed them as being extremely paranoid. Their culture was forged over centuries of constant attack by another species of harvesting cyborg, who called themselves The Borg. It was the pattern of the Seprioth to challenge any outsiders to military combat, and to quickly withdraw when they suffered even slight damage. They often entered negotiations with those who stood up to them--if there was sufficient bravery demonstrated.

Allies would be a sign of weakness, but there was nothing that the Metal Man could do to delay the Shadow Hunter, so he would have to do the best with the resources at his disposal.

Brain Jar to Seprioth contingent: nuts!

She wouldn't use her cloaking device--that would be an act of cowardice--but Brain Jar raised shields and charged a particularly nasty set of weapons. She had the best plasma cannons that a Neoman genius--supplemented with his own intellect-enhancing training--could design, columnized and area-affect particle beams and an aft missile launcher. In times of danger, she could draw power from the pocket universe that he had mentioned to the Synits. And her targeting systems were nothing short of amazing. She could hit a piece of shrapnel an twenty-five millimeters square at a distance of two light minutes, and target more objects simultaneously than she had guns for. She was small, but she packed quite a wallop.

To Xiscapian battleship Shadow Hunter:

This is Brain Jar, with the Metal Man as pilot. The Seprioth are a warrior culture. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a test of bravery. I never fail those tests. You're welcome to come along for the ride if you want, but, if you start, don't quit in the middle--it will cost you.

The REAL question here, however, was whether the Seprioth would attempt to engage the Synits, who are already doing battle, and their opponents, whose markings appeared to be Theoroshian.

Then, the Metal Man witnessed a massive missile launch against the planet. Its defenses were overwhelmed. He swore under his breath.

Weapons fully charged, Brain Jar broke the law, and the Metal Man opened himself to the possibility of something that he had sworn never to do: taking innocent lives. She used her jump drive to get between the planet and the missiles. Then, her particle cannons set loose a neutron field. There would be collateral damage, but it would probably be enough to take out the Theoroshian missiles, and the system's magnetic field would make it dissipate before it reached another planet, while the Synits' atmosphere would deflect it harmlessly away. Good move for everyone who wasn't mixing it up with the missiles. As he watched, the closest missiles started to explode, the radiation playing havoc with their guidance systems. The Metal Man could only hope that no one else would be reckless enough to challenge an entire salvo of incoming rockets--and he could only hope that his weapons would be effective enough that he could survive.

If he did, THEN he would have before him the pleasant task of going back and dealing with the Seprioth--not to mention Shadow Hunter.

Couldn't have an entire planet in Jeopardy and not have TMM try to do something about it. :) :) :)

Abruptly as the Amazonians had arrived, some nuts had decided that all-out war would be the appropriate method to take on first contact. War was always the first option, and even for a warlike, aggressive civilization like the Dominion, even this was slightly crass. But if these interstellar provokers wanted fighting, they could certainly recieve the opposite end of the guns of the Dominion, always ready to give out a full barrage of metal, plasma, and energy to any recepticle willing-or not-to accept the consequences of actions.

As the Sephs had begun firing on Brain Jar, two leading Dominion attack corvettes took action, the entire fleet swinging about to meet the Sephriothans in face-to-face combat. Both Defiants swung into attack formation, pulse turbolasers spitting up from their cannons as they swept down past the battlebarge in an initial attack against the aggressor Sephs.

sephoroth craft please withdrawl from the alien entity immeadiatly, or we will aid in your destruction.

OOC: in case anyone wonders, i mentioned that i recalled my 1st battle fleet from distant locations. looks like they stumbled into this little ruckus:p

class 1 hellions are 200 megaton nukes, most of the ships carries between 200-1200 each
burst lasers: basicly lasers that cycle in bursts each individual blast is the rough equivilant of 20,000 terrawatts
chain guns fire at 500 rounds per second, each craft carries about 10,000 rds
standered ap rounds
approx 150 ships total mostly heavy battlecruisers and battleships
oh if you wonder the reason for the quick bursts that move across the ships. its used to basicly attempt to overload the shields. most shields only use full strength at the location that is hit. if you rapedly hit all over, the shields can overload

The Metal Man heard the Sephrioth fleet call for reinforcements, and found 50,000 missiles aimed at his small craft.

He also saw the new players enter the conflict.

The Dominion was in the Species-1 database. They had been one of the few races that had fought off a harvesting attempt. They were fierce and dangerous--and as likely as not to turn on the Synits once they finished off the Sephrioth fleet, and any other takers, for that matter. They would attempt to enslave the entire race--they always had some excuse to explain why their "elite race(s)" were better than anybody else.

It wasn't a matter of merely dodging them--he could cloak and move, and they wouldn't be able to lock onto him--but, if he did that, they'd get new locks--on the first target of opportunity, and that would probably mean the Synit defense stations. Unacceptable.

He was too close to the planet's gravity well to use his warp drive, and the jump drive would have the same complication as a cloak-and-move technique. So, using her maglev drive, Brain Jar started to move out into orbit, drawing the missiles away from the planet and all other life forms.

He had a plan--and, if the Dominion and the Sephrioth would keep each other busy long enough, it just might work.

He looked back. Three missiles had survived his neutron field. He knocked one of them out with his plasma cannons as he sped off. The other two would have to be left to whatever defenses the Synit had on the planet.

Brain Jar to Cazellian, Xiscapian and Schwullundian fleets:

Prepare to neutralize incoming missiles.

I'm going to try to mark these things "return to sender," but
there are 50,000 of them. Unless you can safely withdraw,
some will lock onto your ships when they lock onto the
Sephrioth who launched them. I'll keep in touch. Good luck.

To Dominion fleet:

This is a bad hill to play "King of the Hill" on.

As expected, the Sephrioth missiles followed the little ship as it moved.

OOC: In the unlikely event that anybody is wondering, none of the technology that Brain Jar uses is hardly original. The neutron field is adapted from an episode of Space: 1999 (the one with the probe with the Queller Drive). The plasma weapons are just another name for your basic Star Wars blaster. The Columnized Electron Beam, not yet used but in the arsenal, is a Dalek gun from Doctor Who. The Jump Drive comes from a Berzerker Wars story in Omni Magazine--the one with the Quibian-Quibian-Kel unit. (They never translated "Quibian-Quibian-Kel," but my best guess is "watchdog.")

The Xiscapian battleship targeted as many missiles as it could (about 1,000) with it's A.I. and opened fire. Turret, Ion, and AS fire spat at the incoming missiles, space being suddenly colored by orange explosions. The A.I. targeted the next batch and the game was on.

2,514 down and 46,485 to go. And the fleets didn't get out of the way.

Turning those missiles loose on beings capable of such bravery would simply be wrong. The Metal Man would have to find another way to neutralize them.

As Brain Jar moved to a higher orbit, all the missiles turned to follow her. 2,082 of them cut the turn too tight and hit other missiles--sometimes taking out as many as five others in the resulting explosions. Cheap guidance systems.

And the guidance systems weren't the only cheap thing about these missiles. When they came to course, they shut their engines down to conserve fuel. This increased their range and, if fuel was left, made them more incendiary when they exploded. The only problem was that whoever put them together didn't bother to insulate the fuel tanks. They were right along the outer surface of the missile. One good hit from a plasma charge and it would set the missile off.

And then, the fatal flaw: the missiles were slower than Brain Jar. They couldn't keep up.

9,246 down and 40,754 to go.

And Brain Jar was far enough away from the action to try another neutron field. This time, it would be safe.

The discharge tubes released their charges. Soon, the space the missiles were flying into was inundated with neutronic radiation.

The sensors detected the weapons lock the moment the ships came through the warp.

After the Synit point defenses had their say, the missiles hit the neutron field. Its affects were devastating. Only about 106 of the missiles made it through. Brain Jar retreated and let loose another neutronic salvo. Two missiles survived. The plasma cannons cut them down.

Brain Jar to Cazellian, Xiscapian and Schwullundian fleets:

Forget about the missiles. If you're engaging the enemy at such
close quarters, I'm not going to complicate your lives. I can't take
the chance of causing damage to your ships when I'm trying to
give the Sephrioth a lesson in manners.

It was time to show them what they were up against. Brain Jar was small, but her technology was at least 40 years ahead of the Sephrioth. Her Information Technology, in particular, put them to shame. She could target opposing bogeys almost as fast as they could send them--and she had area-affect weapons for the rest. But that computer could also play offense: it could calculate jump drops so quickly and so accurately that the Sephrioth targeting systems would be hard-pressed to respond.

Yes, it was time--time to see just how good those Sephrioth ships were.

Brain Jar jumped to a point just outside the shields of the nearest Sephrioth ship. She fired all her plasma cannons. They took the shields down but not out. Then, she jumped again, this time to another ship, with similar results. Another jump and she was sitting by the Shadow Hunter as it moved into battle.

Brain Jar to Sephrioth fleet:

By now, you should have noticed my technological superiority.

This is your last chance. Cease your unprovoked aggression or
face the consequences.

Though he preferred to teach and trade rather than to fight, the Metal Man was a berserker at heart. Battle thrilled him. Sometimes, once he started, it was all he could do to drag himself away even from a vanquished foe. As he brought his weapons back to full charge, he could feel the call of the fight filling his mind. This was going to be a good day to die.

The sensors detected another Sephrioth weapons lock.

OOC:

I feel like I'm starting to uber here--but, considering that I've just had 50,000 missiles shot at a ship that's only 100 meters long, and THEN had that same, tiny ship targeted by 2,000 warships, I'm not sure I had much choice. I don't like ubering, though, so I'm going to have to make a different choice:

I'm afraid that I'm going to have to ask why Seph is ignoring the Schwullundian posts, and how these reasons aren't also reasons why I should be ignoring HIS posts.

Unless I get a reasonable answer (he should TG me and not hijack this thread), I'm going to write a post where the Schwullundians et al blow his forces out of the sky and then ignore him.

I don't WANT a friggin' war, I want to have contact with the new species. TMM teaches a course of study. He trades. He's got better things to do with his time than go around shooting at everything that moves.

schwullunde battle fleet to brain jar.. we will pull back to a safer distance, we will remain on call in case you need us.also we will set up a parimeter killzone, so that if any of the sephrioth ships try to make a break for it we can dispatch them... the schwullunde battle fleet disengauges the missles and pulls back to a safe distance. each ship then moves into position to enact a parimeter net. if any of the Sephrioth ships try to come this way then they will be blasted into space rubble.

ooc: not exactily sure how my simple posts could be confusing to anyone.ahh well teh heh heh:cool:. i thought they were simple, direct, and to the point.

I've RP'ed with Seph before. He's dyslexic, and uses it as an excuse to be lazy.

OTOH, he TG'ed me, and claims that Schwul's posts are too confusing for him to understand. I tried to clue him in, but it's reasonable as far as it goes, so I'm going to back off and keep RPing.

I wish the Synits would post again. I can understand him not posting if he's as turned off by unprovoked conflict as I am, but I'd still like the chance to take the peaceful track with him. There's something I'd like to set up, with his help: the Intergalactic Station of Peaceful Negotiation. :) :) :) It would be a multi-racial, multi-cultural project. :) :) :)

@Schwul: I wrote "down but not out" about those shields. I was figuring that they'd be at about 30% when the little ship got done with them.

OOC: Normally I don't intrude on threads, but the level of hypocrisy here is disgusting.

Seph "ubering"? Right, he did let his shields get taken down and running out of ammo. But what do you do, Schuwullende?

You have a ship fly towards his fleet, somehow faster than his weapons can track and pummel you to dust or even ram you, have a boarding team teleport aboard the ship, despite the fact that Imperial ships have Gellar fields or whatever to kinda block that, have your boarding team slaughter everyone without his consent, and then lock the doors, put up a field and gain control of his ship, moving it towards your fleet.

All without Seph's permission or giving him a chance to reply.

Seriously, look who is calling the kettle black.

@Marionetonia: You have no idea what you are talking about, so shove it. Dealing with dyslexia is hard, my half brother has it, so for one, going after him on that point is utterly pathetic. And two, he's lazy for...what? Not making the uber awesome posts you WANT him to have? At least he tries, mmk? And he is willing to listen to people's advice and change.

So either get those little things called "patience" and "tolerance", or don't bother rping here, kay?

He's right. Taking over those ships without permission was ubering. I'm going to have to ignore that part of that post.

I couldn't let Telros go without an answer. I'm third-generation bad temper that I know of, and that post set it off. I put it in a TG rather than hijack the thread, though. Hopefully, Tel and I can keep our little skirmish, if any, from spilling over and annoying other people.

IC:

A Sephrioth ship detached from the fleet and headed straight toward Brain Jar. Somehow, she made it through the Schwullundian gauntlet. The Metal Man had to give the Sephrioth credit. Sometimes, they could accomplish the impossible through force of will alone.

This didn't do him much good. A huge, heavily armed battleship was cruising straight in for his tiny, 100-meter flying saucer. These guys really wanted him dead.

He jumped right into her path and let loose another volley of plasma fire, this time backed up by a spread from his columnized electron beams. They impacted against what was left of the ship's shields, further depleting them. He jumped again, this time appearing behind the ship and facing the other way. The aft missile launcher spat out a salvo of its own. It, too, did not make it through the Sephrioth ship's shields.

He jumped again, this time appearing alongside the Sephrioth ship. It kept them from being able to lock weapons, but he couldn't shoot this time because he needed to recharge his own weapons. Sooner or later, he knew, they would wise up and start trying to lock their weapons manually. If their gunner had the rare talent to be able to site his guns in a hurry, he could probably squeeze off a round from one of her lance batteries before Brain Jar could get away. It was a chance he had to take--it was the best chance he had.

The Shadow Hunter still hung in the same position as before. Now it saw the Sep battleship attempting to engage the tiny saucer in combat. "Target the battleship with everything we've got." said the Captain. "We'll give 'em something else to worry about." 4 Heavy Guns(capital ship damagers), 5 Light Guns(weaker then Heavy Guns, made for pinpoint targeting, though still powerful), 30 AS guns( Anti-Ship guns made for shooting down small craft) and 12 Ion cannons(duh) opened fire on the same spot on the Sep battleship, to maximize gun effectivness and hopefully breach the ship's hull.

He was out of options. The missiles had come at him in a cloud--they had filled the space around him. There was nowhere for him to jump, nowhere to run and there were too many for even a neutron field to knock out.

Just as Brain Jar was about to cloak and try to ram the closest Sephrioth ship, the missiles self-destructed. Someone had set off their fail safe systems.

My God! It worked! We've stared them down!

Now, they needed to disengage. The only problem would be the Dominion. They were every bit as nasty as the Sephrioth. On the other hand, their guns had been conspicuously silent of late. Perhaps they had seen reason.

AT this point, however, there was little that the Metal Man could do. He had no diplomatic authority, and Brain Jar, while able to defend herself on a limited basis, was simply not made for all-out war.

Receiving the message from brain jar the fleet commander swears luridly. sending a Coded Message quickly to all of the Defenders.
to the commanders of the Defending Fleets. If the Sephrioth dare to attack again, i suggest that we wipe their ships from the map. to accomplish this we should prepair a combination pinser and wedge manouver. here is the basic idea. we will split our fleet into two parts to act as the pinser. the dominion can be the wedge driving into their center. the Xiscapians can form a secondary front just below their ships , and Brain jar if you can form another front just above them. by doing this i beleave we can break their backs completely. use all necessary force to accomplish this. the code word for this will be Four Horseman. if the Sephrioth wish to die, let us Grant their wish.

the schwullunde fleet procedes to split into two fairly equal halves. each section moves into flanking positions around Brain jar.

sending a second coded message to Schwullunde Space Command. from the commander of the 1st battle fleet to Space command: the Sephrioth appear to be rearming. we request immeadiate activation and deployment of the 2nd Fleet to aid in the defence of the Cybernetic Entity known as Brain Jar/aka Metal Man. if possible equip the 2nd fleet with as much firepower as possible, as well as a full supply of 500,000 hunter/seeker drones Equiped with shield penatrating quantum lasers.

hunter/seekers are are small unmanned robotic drones. they are primarily used in the salvage of Space Wreckage. a military version has been produced to act as ship/anti-personel devices.

military armament: 4 3Twt lasers.

shield Penitrating Quantum lasers are a slightly newer design that combines the 3 twt laser with a quantum tunneling laser usually used in ftl communication. by combining the two, these lasers can rip holes into the Shields used by warships in less then an hr.

The Schwullunidans and the Xiscapians were real professionals. They knew when to engage, they knew how to engage and they knew how to disengage.

Collectively, the entire group had survived the Sephrioth's first test. The Metal Man did not allow himself the delusion that it would be their last test. Just to be safe, he warmed up a battle suit in the armory.

It was said that the Sephrioth defended their friends with the same abandon that they attacked their enemies with. It would be interesting to put that to the test.

With the Schwullundian fleet surrounding his ship, the Metal Man decided to that it was time for someone else to make the next move. He waited, and hoped that the Synits would get back to him--and that they wouldn't bar him from their system for having the unmitigated temerity to do wage war in their space.

Unlike some, he would leave if asked to.
