OOC: New here

Greetings. I've been something of a lurker around here for awhile, and I've finally decided to join. I have read the stickies and such, so let me assure you, that I am not the n00bs that seem to rampage across the board every week or so. I do, however, have some questions.

1)How do storefronts work, exactly? As in, how do you get an accurate bearing on what you can spend? I've seen some back and fourth stances on calculators, so I'm at a lost.

2)How would I go about becoming active in politics without worrying about getting "Pwnded" by someone, just because they have a larger population than me?

3)My nation is a Germanic themed one. I'd like to try and find a region with similar nations, but none of the telegrams I received advertising regions fit my taste. Is there such a region (And do forgive me if this is not the area to be asking for such a thing)

Thanks in advance.

1. Storefronts basically work on whether or not the owner of that storefront thinks you can afford what they offer, unless they use a calculator in which case they work off of that.

2. As far as I can tell, you do something silly, although even that doesnt seem to be sure-fire anymore. See my random executions of vampires. Frankly, it seems like the dumber the post, the more attention it gets. I suggest you stop using punctuation and randomly switch letters around, that'll get peoples attention.

3. No idea. Never been a region guy myself. Ask on Gameplay though, I'm sure somebody'll have what youre looking for :D

The serious answer to this is an embassy exchange thread.

The comedy option is to extend your sovereign waters out by an extra "100nm", wait for outrage to fill up, then inform everyone that "nm" means nanometer.

I'll wait for everyone old enough to remember that incident.

Was that Xerlox? I remember him. He was funny.
But...looking at your join date, that was two years before you signed up >_>

Well if you want a germanic region, Germany is the perfect place lol...I am serious. They have many nations, if not all, that are Germanic. They even have their own forum, so yeah :P

The Prussian Empire.

plus, it is an alliance on II. So you get to be in a german region with alliance benefits.

Well...if you want to be active in politics with out getting wtfpwnt, you could be my Protectorate. We too have a largely Norse/Germanic culture, so it wouldn't be that bad. :p

Also, for Germanic regions, try "The New Prussian Empire", though you need a password, and I'm not sure if they are accepting new members.

Protectorate, you say? Perhaps, though I really don't want to be reduced to a client state.

And there appear to be two "Prussian Empires." The "New" Prussian Empire, and simply the Prussian empire.

"The Prussian Empire" is the new (and 'real') region.

The Prussian Empire is in a massive war and you might be a target of a lolpwn if you do move there.

God knows I'd be the first to recommend invading you and subjugating your peoples.

Well, you would still be independent, to a degree. But you would have to follow certain rules, such as not making friends with my enemies, commit troops to certain causes, etc. On the flip side, you'd receive funds from my economy, protection from my military, etc.

Please look carefully at those you might end up allies with - Very Carefully- Some have political stances that aren't all that pleasant, and some will use you.

You don't have to get involved with wars if you don't want to.

You don't have to shop in storefronts to arm your nation.

The comedy option has fallen fairly flat of recent, I wouldn't suggest it

A good option for a peaceful(relatively) intro is to throw some sort of a party/gala/ball or other sort of celebration.

That way you get to meet world leaders/delegates, establish some informal ties, learn who you might want to avoid(politics wise) ect.

I agree - a ball/party hosted by your government is an excellent way to network without doing anything that could warrant an invasion by a foreign power.

Oh, and a bit of advice:

1. Don't use blenders as an execution method - it pisses people off.
2. Refrain from using nuclear missiles, especially 27,000...against one country.

I did both, and I learnt my lessons the hard way.

Another good, peaceful option for extending diplomatic relations is to ask nations to establish embassies in your lands: This will mean that they recognize your nation's sovereign government, and will have basic ties to your country. Always a good first step.

Also, as pointed out by Tanara, storefronts are not necessary to arm your country: your nation, like any other, automatically produces goods (including weaponry) as time flows. You just get to determine what those goods are. Seeing as you've read the stickies and stuff (good for you! Really, there are a lot of people that should give them a look-through ...), you already know not to go around shouting that your nation can produce 1124897148728123681273 nukes, but also remember that anything you do produce has a side-effect. Guns and Butter, neh?

All that means is that the more you divert towards increasing your military, the less you have in the way of consumer goods. Remember that: sometimes a military cut is essential to hasten other projects, such as construction, research, etc., etc.

Lastly, take into account your population and calculator statistics (just find one you like (and is easy to read, use, and understand) and roll with it: that's what I do) when determining your economy. Remember that not all of your population works towards one thing at a time: you're constantly doing many little things at once (unless you call your people "Drones" and they are subject to the Overmind's will ... [props if you know what that's from]), so your economy will run, but it won't get everything done in one day. Building up a decent army while still maintaining a good production rate of non-military items will take time, so give yourself more time to build yourself into a decent-sized, respectably-armed, and economically-secure nation before attempting anything in relation to a war. Unless you want a civil war. Those can be done at any time.

Now that my rant is done, Welcome to NationStates! It's fun.

If you want to keep random idiots from ruining your intro RP, I suggest making it either closed to specific participants, or dishing out liberal doses of ignore.

(unless you call your people "Drones" and they are subject to the Overmind's will ... [props if you know what that's from]),

oh i know its from starcraft:cool:

i would advice making an alliance or a simple trade-agreement with mulitiple nations this should overlap and protect you from most attacks. (i would offer but some people would take it blatant advertising and most would be nervous about socialists) or you could make a super militaristic puppet and claim it to be a fiefdom and just wait for it to grow...

if you are invaded and don't want to be just ignore the thread.:p

omg i am soo increasing my border...;)

I do appreciate the help. Though, I must assure a certain someone in here that I did indeed read the stickies.

Tocrowkia, protectorate status sounds interesting, in that case. Perhaps we can discuss it further over private channels. Also, I would like to join "The Prussian Empire", if that is acceptable.
