I guess I'll try......Just don't pick a fight with any one.....Also you have to buy your "Stuff"(Millitary Equipment) at Storfronts once you buy them they are your for the blowing up:D also when you by something it has to be within your Defense budget......You might wanna check out the Stickies they will help

Hi, and welcome to the NationStates Forums. In the example you presented, both the missile quantity and defense system fall under the catergory of "godmode." Godmode is a NS term for something that is either too much money for any army to afford, or just doesn't work. My advice to you is to read the stickies as well as some of the roleplays out there to get a feel for how the international community happens. Here's a few abbreviations you might want to know:

Tech levels:
MT-Modern Tech
PMT- Post-Modern Tech
FT-Future Tech

Alliances:
CA-Corporate Alliance
UFAN-United Federation of Allied Nations
NATO-New Alliance Treaty Organization
NPE-New Prussian Empire
QC-Questarian Commonwealth

If you have any questions, feel free to telegram me and I'll explain things as best I can.

Welcome to Nationstates: International Incidents, While there aren't an over-abundance of strict rules for RPing, there are many conventions and popular restrictions on what you can and can't do.

Like every other forum on the internet, these are contained in Stickied threads, unlike Every other forum on the internet, where stickies mostly consist of 'don't be an ass' you should actually read the International Incidents stickies, esp. these two:

enjoy your stay.

ahhhhh don't bother with the storefronts. just design your own stuff. the best way is to first decide on your timesetting the usual ones are

AT Ancient Tech: usually bows and arrows, swords
MT Modern Tech: tanks and jets nuff said the most common setting
PMT Post Modern/Pre Modern Tech: depends on the person for pre anything before 1900, for post all the way up to intersteller flight.
FT Future Tech: ray guns and space ships (my personal favorite)

also there is the ocassional fantasy rp think AT with magic

after that just fill up your inventory with the basic package and go at it.

if you do go with the storefronts, remember U.S/U.K is usually better then U.S.S.R anytime.
if you go with the make your own way look up NSDraftroom
http://z4.invisionfree.com/NSDraftroom/index.php?act=idx
you can post ideas there in a variaty of settings

after that just look for a post thats fun and join in. read what other people do and try to emulate them as best you can.

oh yeah remember not to mix tech settings. they really hate that. bit of advice if you do mix remember that
MT mixes ok with PMT
FT mixes with Fantasy pretty good as long as both agree
AT is fairly on its own, though it will fit into fantasy with a handycap

and never mix MT/PMT with FT/Fantasy (trust me on that, you will only hear it from the MT/PMT crowd if you do). you can join into a FT/Fantasy setting with MT/PMT,but you will be at a real disadvantage if you do.

come up with a few characters. usually just name/race/background will do.
the usual suspects are military commanders, ambasaders,presidents/dictators/kings,heads of corperations.

just look around and have fun.

also looks like i took a bit too long and others posted some of the same things i did. with a few i missed. oh and don't worry about asking questions, its always good to ask and most of us will answer you

You missed, PT (Past Tech, waaaaaaay more populated than AT) NFT (Fledgling but still out there in terms of RPed Epochs)

In so far as instant respect goes, most people seem fascinated in the Fan-PMT, stuff that defies the conventions of regular Tech but doesn't strech the playability, there's a guy called Kraven who's name you'll hear a lot, he really sprang out of nowehere by using a tech that was impressive, respectable and yet had little to no RL anchorage, use your imagination on that one but beware of falling down the pitfalls of overplaying your nation, there's a very thin line between Respect and Godmodding in that respects.

If you wanna play it safe go for MT or regular PMT, most of the information on both of those is very easily obtained via Wiki or other sites and both have a far greater fanbase than the other techs, if you need help in making your military then find a RL nation that's somewhat close to your own and design around it, that's what I did when I started off, and although I wouldn't say I'm respected I get by with very little arguing.

Actually. From what i've seen there is just more than MT, PMT, and FT.

I'll break down what i've heard for you.

PT: Past Tech
MT: Modern Tech
PMT: Post Modern Tech
NFT: Near Future Tech
FT: Future Tech
FT: Fantasy Tech

Also, make a note that some nations play multiple tech versions. I've seen nations play Modern Tech, Past Tech, Future Tech and Fantasy Tech all at the same time. So if you wish to play multiple techs, just make sure you have the time and paitence to RP them all, just in case you get stuck in multiple Roll-Play's throughout multiple Tech Levels.

PMT is Post Modern, and it doesn't really encompass NFT, NFT is like just imbetween PMT and FT, infact it slots in quite nicely.

I usually consider PT to be from around 1500 to Napoleon Tech, which then leads onto PreMT and then MT, I can't tell if you thought I was being rude or not but I really wasn't dude, just pointing them out man.

Also it depends on what type of roleplaying you like to do - you don't find me here in II too often, I'm more of a character gamer, and am found mostly up in NS, the forum just above this one.

I would suggest if you haven't much RP expereince, that you go with Modern Tech. It's easy to find tons of info on, you can use real world prices to go off of when equiping your army- and best of all it's familiar to you.

Modern Tech is also the broadest range- I classify anythig from the industrial revolution through to today as MT some people include Clancey/ Dale Brown tech as we should have it in the next ten years of so.

PMT is what you see in the movie 2001 A Space Odessy - what we'll have in the next 100 years or so. ( Think Firefly/ Serenity as well )

NFT / FT can get interesting as you have anything from the declining tech of Battle Tech,( a good bit of their weapons tech we might be able to pull off in that 100 years I just mentioned) to what you see in Star Trek, Star Wars, Bab 5, David Weber's Honor Herrington books, David Drake's Hammers Slammers series, and all the SF genre where tech can very wildly

As much as I like FT/NFT it's very difficult to get a hold in there without constraining the ethics of narration, without knowing what every side is capable of you can't write a good story, but then RPing and narration rarely work well together, you can create the plot but without that tasty morsel of a hook you're left with nothing, but with too obvious a hook you have a cliche, it's the one thing I can never deal with and the only thing keeping me from creating RP's.

But still, we seem to be stealing this topic from the poor sod who asked in the first place, all I can say is to keep at it, learning comes from two sources, experimentation and tutorage.

yeah though this little threadsteal is a good lesson in several ways. but as i cannot think of anything new to help Equal Oppertunity right now i think i will skip out for now.

welcome to NS Equal Oppertunity, have fun, learn as much as you can from everyone here, and experiment with several settings till you find the right one.

your welcome to send me a telegram if you have any questions that i can answer.
