The Clandonian Royal Navy Fleet Review

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/madnukedude/clandoniansmallflag.png

Since the formation of the Clandonia the navy has played an important role, firstly for its pro-Royalist stance as it united people and provided transport to those stranded across the world after the collapse of the Hughes administration. After nearly two decades of Clandonian economic rebuilding the navy has undergone a dramatic transformation, instead of mass of ancient mixed technology the navy has become the most heavily funded part of the Clandonian military.

The history of Clandonian sea faring vessels is thought to have gone back to before the first civil war where history documents account for Clandonian merchant ships bringing materials and goods from destinations several thousand miles away from the mainland. With the civil war the navy was left to rot literally for over two hundred years, historical vessels were plundered for their scrap with more important problems plaguing the nation. The establishment of the first stable government for four hundred years promised a revival of the Clandonian people united together. A naval force was procured from a number of store fronts, the first Clandonian ship building began with the Clandonian Iron and Steel Company, a state owned organisation. The basic submarines were slow and conventionally powered limiting their ranger, their effectiveness in the war against in the skirmishes with the Corporate Alliance showed that Clandonian nautical engineering showed promise.

The government ordered the contract to build a sizeable vessel with a nuclear reactor that was capable of long term voyages and to be able to deploy against sea, air and land targets. The contract was awarded to the Clandonian Corporation, a government funded research branch which developed the Danskeran Class SSBN, a vessel which is still in use today in its seventh generation model incorporating the latest submarine technological advantages and the reliability of Clandonian submarine building. Durring the later years of the Lancer government the Super Danskeran and Puriton Class submarines were constructed. The Puriton was the largest submarine ever built in the history of the world surpassing the beliefs of experts when it was launched from the specially constructed dry dock in Danskeran. The submarine was over two kilometres long and carried hundreds of missile possessing the explosive fire power of what was believed to be twenty giga-tonnes of thermonuclear weapons designed to strike and obliterate targets in Nova Europa, a Clandonian enemy at the time.

Now with order restored and a vast economic powerhouse growing by the day the need to protect Clandonian merchant shipping has arisen from pirate and hostile attack. Today the organisation of the entire navy is conducted from Old Admiralty House in Dovertown. Base of logistical operations and command for the Grand Home Fleet, a total of twenty battle fleets makes up this section of the navy. The Royal Navy receives over sixty percent of the HM Treasury Defence Budget making it the largest sector of the Crown’s armed forces. Over forty million are employed in the Royal Navy making it one of the largest employers in the country.

It is hoped in ten years time that over seventy per cent of the fleet will be of home built and designed vessels. Currently Praetonian designed vessels have been built in Clandonian shipyards under supervision, with huge advancements in Clandonian nautical engineering these vessels upon reaching the end of their lifetime will be replaced by new Clandonian designed and built ones. The navy was proud to announce this year in conjunction with Vickers Ship Engineering and the part state owned Imperial Clandonian Shipyards the start of the Nelson Super Dreadnought programme. The Nelson Class is a huge vessel over one thousand metres long (1197 metres to be precise), she will be equipped with eight triple turrets housing powerful 30.5” ETC Royal Armaments naval cannons and powered by eight nuclear reactors. Four vessels have been given funding by the Treasury to be built two at a time and Portsmouth and Dovertown where dry docks have been built in preparation for building and maintaining the ships.

HMS Nelson, the first of the ships to be built

Other vessels this year to make a début are the Broadsword Anti-Air Battlecruiser and the remodelled Avenge Class Battleship that was cancelled eight years ago after the Cheshire Class was designed.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/madnukedude/BroadswordClassAnti-AirBattlecruise.png
The Broadsword Anti-Air Battlecruiser was designed to protect the fleet from air threats both enemy missiles and aircraft. Pilots will fear engaging the Royal Navy when the Broadsword is around with her complex radar and sensors and long range surface to air weaponry she is a fearsome ship.

The Avenge Heavy Battleship Class, designed to replace the old Royal Sovereign Class with a shorter length and draught but with the same heavy and destructive fire power.

A Clandonian Battlefleet is commanded by an Admiral who will command the flotilla either from an aircraft carrier or a large command ship such as the Cheshire Class Battleship. Looking at the 1st Battle Fleet under the command of Admiral Sir Victor who famously fought in the Clandonian-Vetakan War, his Battlefleet took heavy damage but sunk a considerable percentage of the Vetakan fleet thanks to the superior weapon and defence systems. The number thirteen is considered unlucky and as a result no Clandonian ship bears the designation of the number and neither does any sort of command structure. Ships bellow a certain length are not named and only given a designation number due to the large numbers of these vessels in operation. Only battleships, battle-cruisers, dreadnoughts, carriers, missile submarines and capital ships are named.

Formation of the Clandonian Royal Navy

Each fleet contains twenty Battlefleet are show above, these fleets are based together and in times of war or threat to the Crown will be called upon together to show the force. The Grand Home Fleet is based at Southampton with the Imperial Expeditionary Fleet based at Portsmouth on the Western Peninsula, All resupply and support vessels for the entire navy operate from. Both ship yards can accommodate ships up to two thousand metres in length, built to contain ships such as the Questerian Hood or the Praetonian Iron Duke. In times of war these naval yards would be available for Clandonian allies to use if the vessel was damaged, these yards are therefore are of a major strategically importance to the RN.

The East Haven Fleet

This was once a small protection force that helped patrol the waters surrounding the Virgin Islands. Now from the Cook Islands all the way Eastwards to the Clandonian Virgin Islands is covered by the Royal Navy, protecting the oceans of the Haven and Crown interests and shipping assets in that area. One the of the battlefleets operates out of the main island in the Virgin Islands with yards and dock space in Southampton Town and the Royal Navy base of RNB Brize off to the North Eastern island. The other remaining four hundred ships are based from the Cook Islands with the large docks able to handle even the biggest of Clandonian battlecruisers and fleet carriers

2nd East Haven Battlefleet – ‘Surfers'
3rd East Haven Battlefleet - 'Miners'

Total Number of Ships: 600

Central Haven Fleet

To safeguard Clandonian interests in the South East and the key sea lines of communication in Haven a small force remains at the base of Port Haddock. Made up of eight Clandonian battlefleets along with Expeditionary Fleets along with twenty Fast Response squadrons, twelve Logistical Squadrons and eight Submarine Squadrons. Due to the increasing APOC-Gholgoth tensions and the proximity to the Aequation base of Innovata, two battlefleets were ordered in early 2008 to create the Tristan Peninsula Taskforce. Following the Clandono-Prestonian War and the colonisation of Newfouland the force was increased by an additional six battlefleets. This force operates in the Aldean and Ambrose Seas securing vital Clandonian trade interests and protecting colonial holdings.

Total Number of Ships: 1600 (excluding visiting forces)

West Haven Fleet

Based within easy strike range of the strategic areas of the Strobovia Strait and the Hallad Strait this force provides security to Clandonian merchant shipping and interests in Clandonian South Haven and Cardiganshire. As demonstrated in previous conflicts control of this choke point of Haven is vital for any belligerent warring party. One thousand two hundred ships along with a sizeable submarine and Fleet Air Arm contingent based on several large Naval Air Bases inland provide long range patrol to cover the entire area. After the Presto-Clandonian War with the gain of former Allanean controlled Cloyster Coast the War Office decided that while the Royal Navy had performed well more vessels would be needed, an increase of another four hundred warships and various Coastal Command naval air stations giving the Clandonian military a better provision if future conflict occured.

6th West Haven Battlefleet- 'Augustines'

Total Number of Ships: 1200 (excluding visiting forces)

South Haven Fleet

With increasing regional insecurities and challenges to Clandonian naval power and Royal Georgian League supremacy further assets were ordered in December 2008 for the construction of another eight hundred warships to patrol the waterways of the Southern oceans. With basings in Rahland and the Falklands it gives ideal strike radius to deal with both military and civil emergencies that would require the skill and power of the Royal Navy to resolve any issues or concerns. A large concentration of submarine squadrons are also in the area, due to the highly classified nature of the location and whereabouts operation of Clandonian SSBN's this information is not disclosed publicly.

In extension to the main fleets the Royal Navy operates numerous smaller Fast Response squadrons. These naval squadrons provide a rapid deployment to a critical situation which calls for the deployment of Clandonian naval forces for both Imperial and foreign incidents. Logistics is often a problem for any navy in the Haven due to the huge oceanic distances making even inter-regional travel a marathon journey. The RN operates small resupply squadrons, often attached to the main Battlefleet’s or travelling with a detached Fast Battleship Squadron for protection. The example of the 12th Logistical Support Squadron is given bellow; the ships are given a small escort of destroyers and frigates to defend against threats. These logistic squadrons provide refuelling for both conventional and nuclear powered vessels as well as general stores of food and munitions.

As part of His Majesty’s Sub-Surface force Royal Navy submarines operate in’ Wolf Pack’ formations of submarine squadrons. These squadrons comprise of a number of hunter killer submarines as well as larger ballistic missile carrying submarines. The units often work alone often in anti-shipping operations or for covert operations. These squadrons carry a significant part of the Clandonian navy nuclear deterrent, out at sea for six month periods spending more than half the time submerged. Clandonian submariners are often nicked named ‘underwater paratroopers’ because of the stamina and mental mindset needed for the job.

Olmedreca purchases Clandonian Dukes

Yesterday The Satanistic State of Olmedreca and The Imperial Crown Kingdom of Clandonia Prime, signed deal of Olmedreca buying Duke class BTN’s, which Clandonia is resigning from its armed forces. Anonymous sources confirm that deal has been signed on permission of The Crown Commonwealth of Praetonia. The Duke-class nuclear powered battleship is a heavily armoured surface combatant designed by Imperial Praetonian Shipyards. Currently there are nine such behemoths in Olmedrecan Navy and Admirality has been actively suggesting large increase of battleship force for some time. It is well known that Dukes are highly popular in Navy due their excellent performance.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/97/RNVittorio_Veneto-Battle_of_Cape_Spartivento.jpg
Olmedrecan Navy Duke class BTN's in exercises earlier this month

Clandonia on other hand is replacing Dukes with its domestically produced Avenge Class Superheavy Battleships, although large number of Dukes will be kept in reserve. So effectively it is win-win situation as both states can cut costs of their naval reforms by that. It has been confirmed that total fourty one such ships has been sold. This rises Olmedrecan duke fleet to fifty ships strenghtening Navy’s battleship fleet enormously. Both nations share anti-communistic views, having been members of Anti Communist Treaty Organization, which probably has strongly contributed for achieving a deal. We can only hope that such cooperation will continue in future.
