The Tolvanic Navy officially issues a request for bids for a new battleship design.
As the Commonwealth has not operated battleships since the 1950s our shipbuilding infastructure lacks the necessary skill and experience to produce an indigenous design of sufficent quality to fulfill our requirements.
Given the overabundance of vertical launch cells in the current Tolvanic fleet, the ship requires requires only point defense anti-air capabilities. The primary mission of the vessels will be to provide the Tolvanic Marine Corps and Tolvanic Army with Naval Gunfire Support (NGFS) beyond the capabilities of our current 127mm and 203mm guns. In addition the ship should be able to accomodate surface to surface missiles for attacking targets further inland. The ships will have a secondary role in antiship combat, so the ability to carry anti-ship missiles and conduct surface to surface gunnery is required. Finally, the ship should feature sufficent armour to withstand multiple anti-ship missiles strikes and/or substained naval/coastal gunfire.
Current plans are to acquire 10 ships intially with an option for up to 10 more.
