Firehelper Civil War

Firehelper
07-08-2007, 22:01
The firehelper government has recently had much success against the extremist isolationist group that wants the return of firehelper isolationism. Due to this these terrorists have been forces out of 90% of the country the remain in 10% were relatively undeveloped jungles and the attempts to perform large scale anti terrorist operations have failed. Recently they have declared independence from Firehelper.

Island of Water, 0600 hours
It was the break of dawn one could see numerous ships approaching the shore. the beach was secured in the night by several teams of amphibious invasion prep teams. Now the firehelper army would move in to quell the rebellion that was occuring. It would be here that the rebellion either succeeded ir failed and at the moment the the rebels were's in that good of a position.
War would soon come to the island as the fleet approached
((now if someone wants to RP the rebels..... only ask if you will and not leave five posts in))

((now... please try to do the whole time.. there are say 20,000 its also a large island but only beaches and jungles with a few villages. They are armed they even have several fighters, artillery pieces, mortars, and other military equipment but not that much. I would really like the rebels to lose though since its what 20,000 rebels against a max of something like 34,000,000 soldiers but other than that feel free to do whatever))

On the island approximately 20,000 men were ready for war. Many of them sat quietly by themselves, pulling their weapons close to their chest, thinking of their loved ones and why they were willing to risk never seeing them again; others chatted in small groups, and just stood staring at the ominous sight of the approaching fleet and the beach where a bloody conflict would soon begin. All of these warriors-in-waiting came from a variety of backgrounds, but they all had one thing in common: deteminiation; one way or another, they were going to bring about a return to Firehelper isolationism; their motivation was as strong as rock.

"General" Henry Friedman, leader of the rebel soldiers, was busy in his quarters doing a last minute review of his plans. The time was 0610. In twenty minutes the Firehelper Army would hit the shore and blood would begin to spill.

OOC: Thirty-four million is indeed an enormous size for a military, even for a nation with a population over 4 billion. The United States Armed Forces isn't even close to that large; it only has a bit over a millon active personnel. But, I've been gone from NS for a while, so I don't know if such a size is bizarre and generally acceptable or not.

IC:
The firehelper army hit the beach running. They emereged from their hovercraft unter a barrage of artillery fire coordinated by the observers located on the bridge of the landing crafts. These infintry units ran up the beach and this was the story of one of them:
Bai Da Jing stood up. He was nervous and nearly shaking. He had never seen combat before and didn't know what to expect. His mind went though his family as he hoped to see them again. However, soon his mind turned to his comrads that were with him. many were also like him, green and new to combat. They had all just graduated from training and waited for the door to open.
His friends stood near him, they were all privates like him. Soon the door opened facing the beach and a cry rang out. "go, go, go!"
So he ran with his friends and quickly moved up the beach. For now the beach was secure though it wouldn't be for long. Some shooting was already breaking out in another part of the beach. Still he ran and quickly ducked when the shooting began....

The air force was providing support in the form of coordinated strikes. These strikes coupled with helicopter gunships would help accomplish the easy part, the securing of the beach head. Explosions constantly rang out as officers called in air strikes, their effect no one would know until they progressed. However, hopefully it would have the effect of causing the rebels to duck down and not shoot.
(you have light anti-air weapons if you dont want to use your fighters so early.... im sure you also have some heavier ones.... but they take time to transport from place to place in a jungle.

Do you have aim or MSN?)

Charlie Branson watched the approaching fleet through his binoculars from atop a small hill. The time was 0620, and the hovercrafts were just minutes away from reaching the beach. Branson grabbed his radio and contacted Henry Friedman to inform him.

"Henry, this is Charlie," he said. "They're just about to hit the shore. This is it, man; the battle is on." And just then he saw the first inantry unit touch ground Branson dropped his binoculars, picked up his M-16 and looked back to the platoon of thirty men behind him. "Let's go!" he yelled. And so they ran towards the beach to crush the invading forces.

Meanwhile many other rebel soldiers grabbed their weapons and ran to the beach. At 0628 the shooting began. A few minutes later the sound of aircraft in the distance could be heard over the shooting. . .

The firehelper forces slowly advnced up the beach. New ships were unloading tanks now along with more troops. The tanks were the old however, their age made them no less effective as they used their machineguns and cannon to inflict terror and devestation. With this the troops began to push forward. Soon the real battle would come as the troops pushed forwards toward the ever approaching tree line.

The rebels failed to slow the advance of the Firehelper Army; and once the tanks began rolling onto the beach, it became clear to the rebel leaders that this fight wasn't going to be easy.

Five hundred rebels remained on the beach to try to keep their enemy back. The rest spread across the jungle.

Bai Da Jing was tired at the end of the first part of the invasion. In the beginning his inexperince led him to fire hi BPAR-2 at what was mostly the wind. By the end however, he was able to distinguish the movements of the enemy from the wind..... mostly. He was glad that the tanks came up when they did because he was already on his last clip. As the tanks and the new troops mooved into the jungle the first wave had been given a reprieve from the fighting and he intended to make use of it.
First he collected the replacement ammunition before heading inside on of the roll-on roll-off ships still disgorging tanks. The ship was designated as a secure recreation area for the resting troops and he heading to the mess hall. He ate a small meal, better than the
MREs, but still a relatively bland meal. Soon the call for all wave one troops came up as he went back out into the battle that awaited him.

As the tanks drew closer, the rebel infantry soldiers began to panic, but help soon came in the form of a small platoon with M224 Mortars. Fifteen men spread across the beach, sweating intensely and carrying almost 50 lbs. of artillery in their hand. A few of them were too slow and were shot right away.

Dan Hitsmoore and his buddy Joe Kramer were two members of the arriving platoon. They quickly set their mortars down in front of a pine tree on the west end of the beach and pointed them directly at three approaching tanks. This was a big mistake; the rebels were immediately spotted and one of the tanks fired right at them. The tank's shell landed in the jungle two meters behind Hitsmoore and Kramer, and a fierce explosion instantly sent them flying.

Kramer managed to survive, but his comrade was not so lucky; Dan Hitsmoore lay only inches away, resting in a puddle of his blood. The young and very inexperienced Kramer was shocked, but the sounds of bullets whizzing by quickly brought him back to reality. This was a battle, and there was no time for mourning; that could be done later.

Another dead man lay near Kramer with an M-16 still in his arms. Kramer grabbed it, ran behind the cover of the trees, and started firing at every Firehelper soldier who came within range.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the beach, some other rebels were having success with taking out the approaching tanks. Four had been destroyed already, taking several foot soldiers who had been too close to the grave along with them. More tanks started coming though, and the rebels found themselves in over their heads. They managed to annahilate, or at least immobilize, a few more tanks, but eventually they found themselves on the wrong side of artillery fire. Six rebels were killed, and three received only superficial wounds. Scared and overwhelmed, the remaining trio abandoned their dead comrades and ran away.

In the jungle Charles Branson was directing men to spread out into small groups and to hide behind whatever cover was available (mostly bushes); in addition, several snipers were sent into the trees.

Branson and his right-hand man, Frazier McLean, took cover behind a fallen tree adjacent to one of jungle's few paths. Directly behind them was a dry creek bed in which 30 men were hugging the earth. Ten meters away on each side of the path was someone high up in a tree with a pair of binoculars and a small radio on the lookout.

At 0900 the Firehelper Army entered the jungle. The rebels did not open fire right away, though; they waited patiently until the time was right.

The troops had to prgress alone until proper clearling equiptment could be brought up up clear the path of dead trees, tank hulks, and other objects that would block a tank. The Firehelper high command thought that air support would be enough for the seemingly poorly armed rebellion that opposed them.

Bai Da Jing walked behind the second wave with an officer slowly they walked out into the jungle passing by trees, bodies, and the other things that made up a jungle when it rained... this rain made things even more miserable. It was warm and of no help in the humidity and heat of the jungle. Slowly he walked forwards cautiously. For a while at first he imagined that there were people but when he looked again they were gone. Still he held his gun firmly and clung to it as his life depended on it...... when all hell broke lose.

The rebels watched as the Firehelper soldiers walked by, anxiously awaiting the order to attack. A few times somebody accidentally made a part of their body visible, but they quickly re-concealed it, and luckily nobody was caught.

Behind some bushes one rebel looked at another with a look that said, "Now?" The other looked to somebody next to him with the same expression. That man shook his head. And then there was a whistle that echoed throughout the jungle... It was the signal to attack. Rebel soldiers jumped to their feet and ambushed the Firehelper Army. The eery, melancholic look of the rainy jungle added to the intensity of this nightmarish scene.

Bai Da Jing quickly ducked as the officer in front of him was hit on the head falling and spraying the contents of his skull onto his clothing. methodically he aimed and shot hopeful downing someone. Slowly he decided that it was unsafe to stay in the open like that so he crawled over to a rock. With a trunk behind his back he was protected so he began shooting. Men fell in front of him some of them spilling the contents of their bodies over the ground. He resisted the urge to gag as he struggled for his life. Many men were taken out in the initial volley and those that remained were like him, under cover and shooting back. An officer on one end was desperately calling for reinforcements when he was shot and fell over dead. Now the remaining enlisted officers were disorganised until Bai Da Jing called out "fall back" and they did slowly the remaining troops fell back. Soon a few jets came in and bomb with napalm in front of the firehelper troops. The remaining soldiers cheered as the napalm went up in flames, quickly however, they went back to falling back as the enemy returned fire, though it was reduced. Bai Da Jing eventually reched the beach with 15 out of 100 soldiers and officers.

The first day did not go well as the beach was the only part held by firehelper forces. Soon the night set and the troops went into the docked ships as they waited for the morning.

By 2200 the rain had stopped and the moon had replaced the sun in the sky. Protected by the cover of darkness, a rebel observed the Firehelper Army from the outskirts of the jungle. He had a small radio with him to contact Henry Friedman.

"Sir, the Army appears to be just resting," the rebel whispered over the radio. "I see no indications that they'll be coming into the jungle again tonight---at least not anytime very soon."

Henry Friedman, who was in the safety of a small cabin somewhere in the jungle, responded. "Good, good. But don't stop looking. You never know what may happen. I expect a report from you every half hour. Is that understood?"

"Yes, sir."

Back in the jungle men were preparing booby traps. A few mortar shells were hung from tall trees, and tripwires were set up in the tall grass below. Holes were dug and then covered with a net and leaves. At the bottom of these holes were knives sticking out of the ground.

In order to avoid inadvertantly becoming the victims of their own creations, the rebels constantly moved deeper into the jungle as they set their traps. When they were about a mile and half in the set up camp and rested for the night.

Morning
The troops including Bai Da Jing stood assembled on the beach. Today they would march into the jungle. The First wave consisted of heavily armor modified tanks known as "the machete" due to the way i destroyed jungles. These tanks moved up to the tree line where they activated their flails on the front. These flails normally used to destroy mines proved to be affective against vegetation. These tanks also sprayed napalm, the effects of which would quickly die down due to the humidity, all over the vegetation to flush out any hidden troops.
These tanks were followed by the infintry that would march in a loose column that was behind the tanks. However around 1/ of the troops spread out to cover the flanks and these were te problem areas. These areas that had not been cleared were full of traps and in the first few minutes alone several troops died or would lose a limb. These IEDs scared everyone as they were overly cautious when walking. This cause the troops to move slower than usuall as they traversed this great jungle. However, the IEDs were minor inconveniences to the 1,000 troops marching and the 15,000 troops still arriving or gathering on the beach head.

By 0735 information about the Firehelper troops had reached the rebels' high command.

Groups of rebels of various sizes were spread across the jungle, and a little over a mile north of the advancing Firehelper soldiers over 2,000 men were camped with several platoons within a 3 mile radius. All of these rebel soldiers were ordered to attack the Firehelper Army's rear and the flanks.

Lee Hon was about 6'7" tall and 28 years old, with the face of an innocent child, yet the intimidating body of a powerful man. With the exception of his busy, jet black eyebrows there wasn't a hair on his head. His eyes were blue, and his skin had a slight olive hue. Hon came from a poor, yet hard-working and loving family. His parents had spent whatever money they could spare to help send him to college, where Hon majored in political science and developed strong political beliefs--one of which was, unsuprisingly, isolationism; the thought of his country meddling around with other nations disturbed him, and so when Firehelper decided to abandon this policy, he was naturally outraged. Hon happened to be a close friend of Henry Friedman, and he gladly took up arms to assist Friedman in the fight for a return to isolationism.

Hon was among those who fought on the beach the first day, and he watched many comrades' spill their blood and guts on the sand. On the morning of the second day, his heart and mind forever changed by the atrocities he had witnessed in battle, he sat alone by a tree while the company he led rested and ate a crude breakfast. He relived the previous days events in his head multiple times. Eventually, he questioned his will to fight; but then he thought some more and decided that he should at least keep going on to avenge the deaths of those who had been killed.

When orders to attack came in around 0750 Hon picked up his M-16 and the FN Five-Seven pistol he carried with him, swung his supply backpack on, and took a deep breath. He was ready to fight again.

By O815 Firehelper soldiers came into view of Hon's company. Five men were sent forward. They walked slowly in order to avoid creating too much noise which would give them away; then, they crouched down behind some trees and pulled out grenades, and they all looked straight at each other. Somebody nodded their head, and simultaneously the pins from five grenades were removed. The grenades were tossed towards the infantry, and at the sound of their blasts the other rebel soldiers stormed forward, firing their weapons and screaming like mad men.

Soon the Firehelper Army found itself being assaulted from three sides.

The troops were quickly disorganised by the attack as the grenades exploded within the column scattering the troops and causing some friendly fire casualties. The tanks in front quickly took to spraying the areas around it with the flaming napalm. Hopefully the napalm would scare some of the attackers away. Meanwhile the troops recovered after the first attack and scattered taking what available there was. There they began to fire rapidly at the enemy troops or movement in the trees. Men fell fairly rapidly as numerous troops begun encircling them.
[Beach]
The new gathering forces split into two each group numbering two thousand men. and marched a fair distance parallel to the first column. These forces were all infantry and were able to move quickly through the jungle (yea this sounds like the american seven years war and that slaughtering of British troops in the forest) These troops flanked the enemy attack and hopefully relieved stress on the main column

"Crap!"

A bullet whizzed by Lee Hon, slightly slicing his left arm. That same bullet then flew straight into the skull of another rebel. The fighting had been going on for 45 minutes at this point. While initially dumbfounded by the sudden attack of the rebels, it didn't take long for the Firehelper Army to recover from the surprise, and the arrival of 4,000 men gave them an extra boost of confidence in addition to the numerical advantage.

Casualties were already high on both sides, and the number was rising every second. Lee Hon's company of 200 men was now down to just a few platoons. Rain started pouring down, and it became hard for anybody to see anything. The situation was made even more chaotic by the fact that there was a total lack of organization: rebel soldiers were completely mixed in with the infantrymen of the Firehelper Army; consuqentially, there were many cases of men being shot by their own comrades.

After two hours the rebel forces were almost completely crushed by the Firehelper Army. Lee Hon had only one platoon left, and he was beginning to panic. He spotted a fallen tree and hid behind it while he radioed Charlie Branson, who had 4,000 men a few miles to the south.

"Damn it, Charlie," Hon yelled, "we're being annahilated here. Most of my company is gone, and it doesn't look we're going to be able to keep going much longer. Get some help for us over here! I--" Just then Hon's radio was rendered useless by a stray bullet. "What now?" he asked himself. Was he soon going meet his maker? Hon felt like the Grim Reaper was standing right over his shoulder now.

Hon tried to look for a route of escape, but the rain had started coming down harder, and now there was absolutely no way he could see anything more than a few feet away clearly. Hopeless, alone, and despondent, the young rebel hugged his rifle and thought of how foolish he had been to join this rebellion. "All of the lives lost weren't worth; all this violence has been in vain," he whispered to himself.

Luckily for Hon and all of the rebels still fighting, Charlie Branson had heard his plees for help, as well as those of many others. He and his men were on their way. This battle was far from over...

Bai Da Jing moved through the forest in the after math of the battle. He was assigned to mop up the enemy troops still inside the established and growing perimeter. Soon he came up on a person. He was armed and he quickly hid behind a tree. He next pulled the pin off of a flashbang and threw it. It went off and he rushed in. Quickly he disarmed the man before capturing him and taking him to headquarters

Ten rebels armed only with small handguns and a tiny bag of grenades went ahead of the rest to reconniter the battle area. Obscured by the rain and silenced by the thunder, they moved from tree to tree slowly, constantly looking around them just in case. Once in view they noticed Firehelper soldiers picking up bodies and scalvaging whatever weapons and equipment they could. After two minutes of observing the squad leader looked to the closest man and gave him the signal for retreat. That man then turned and gave the same signal to another. Soon, all of the rebels had received the order for retreat. They managed to get a few feet without incident, but then one man tripped over a large rock and accidentally cursed out loud, catching the attention of a Firehelper infantrymen, who immediately turned around and began firing blindly in the direction of the rebels. Despite their disadvantage in regards to their weapons, the rebel soldiers returned fire. Somebody managed to shoot the soldier who began firing at them. But their problems didn't end there: other Firehelper soldiers had heard the shooting and came running there way. The squad leader pulled out his radio and yelled, "Get your stinkin' asses over here NOW!" And with that Charlie Branson blew his whistle and in less than a minute his brigade and the Firehelper Army began exchanging fire.

Two thousand rebels attacked from the south, while nearly two thousand more went around to attack from the west and north, in case any Firehelper troops should try to retreat to the beach. A squad of snipers and a platoon of rebels with MK-48 light machine guns headed towards the beach to try to at least slow the advance of any more Firehelper troops.

The firehelper troops were caught offguard by the attack and the relatively thin perimiter was punctured in several areas by the masses of troops. Now three groups stood separated from the main group. The main group was slowly regaining cohesiveness as they fell back. However, they were in no way ready for a counter assault to free the almost thousand men in each group.

Bai da jing has taken to one captive to the ship designated the POW holding center. While these people were not soldiers and the geneva conventions did not apply to them, the firehelper government believed them to be just misguided citizens that must be re educated in order to once again make them useful once again to society.
As he led him to his cell he spoke to him.
"What is your name?" he asked.
The prisoner replied "Lee Hon, captain , 155A2412"
Bai Da Jing just replied "well you aren't a soldier any longer and no rules apply to your treatment." He hit him in the back just for emphasis. "Your life is in the hands of the firehelper government, the government which you are fighting, you would do best to remember that as we re educate you later."
"Be quiet you know that "re education" is just another name for brainwashing."
"Does it matter? It was your life, and you decided to go and join rebels." with that he left him alone except for the few sleeping inmates in the other cells.

As Bai Da Jing left a officer approached him. "Sargent!" he called out. Bai Da Jing turned.
He replied "yes, sir?"
"I have been given permission to give you a field commission of Second lieutenant." He gave a salute that was returned and then left. Bai Da Wei then left into the madness that had not yet come.
For a while the beach was quiet with troops gathering to support the rescue operation of the encircled troops. Then everyone scattered as men began falling and cries of "SNIPER" went up. Many people just ducked as it was a beach with almost no cover. These people shot back firing into the trees hopefully hitting something before. Soon counter sniper teams were set up and looked for the enemy snipers as they shot at the unprotected Firehelper Troops.
