HISTORY AND POLITICS

HISTORY

The VDB has a long and rich history, starting with the settling of the Navajo to the erection of the new Presidential Palace last year.

The Navajo moved into Arizona sometime between 16,000 BC and 10,000 BC. They settled there happily, building structures inbetween Blanca Peak in Colorado, Mount Taylor in New Mexico, the San Francisco Peaks in Arizona, and Hesperus Mountain in Colorado. Then, in the 1600s, the Spanish made a standing army along the Rio Grande river. Then, after a Native American revolt, the Spanish built forts separating tribes. Skirmishes happened until 1846.

In 1846 the American military moved into the area. They attacked Santa Fe. In September, they sent two detachments to raid and subdue the Navajo. But a treaty occurred in November with the US government.

In 1864 the Navajo were forced to go to the Long Walk to a huge reservation in New Mexico that failed. Then the US let them go to another reservation that worked. Lots of skirmishes occured, but nothing big, until 1915.

In 1915 resentment occured over the way the Navajo were treated. White citizens felt it too. In 1917, during World War l, the state Capitol was attacked and Arizona declared a free country, under the name of the Allied States of Vanek Drury Brieres. Vanek, Drury, Briere, and Getzlaf were the leaders of the revolution. Then, a huge war ensued between the US and newly-declared VDB. The VDB won only because of the resentment in the military. The Briereians declared themselves "the patriots of the new generation".

The Great Depression barely hit the VDB, and the economy continued functioning as normal, except for the trade from the US.

In World War ll, the VDB decided to support it's ally, Britain, in the Battle of Britain. They rarely made decisive forces, until 1944-the Battle of Normandy, when Briereians were praised by the Queen herself. "Thank goodness the VDB was free," she said. But, later in the war the former states of the US, Nevada and Utah, urged on by Nazis, attacked the VDB. It was a valiant effort by the two states, but the VDB managed to get their troops from Europe home in time to defeat them and return for the Battle of Normandy.

The VDB never turned Communist, despite many Soviet spies meant to do that during the Cold War. They joined the UN in 1951.

The 60s hit hard. Almost 2% of the population became hippies, and the VDB was one of Elvis's favorite spots.

But, in the 70's, the rest of the US split apart, with many new countries going into the red. But, the VDB grew, as they knew how to handle this.

Nothing happened since then, except for the erection of major corporations and the new electronics trade, that now takes up most of the VDB's economy. However, in 2006, they made a new Presidential Palace for their rulers, the Princes, which decended from the brave heroes who saved them from the USA.

Ever since the WWll incident with Nevada and Utah, the VDB has been attacked by terrorists, supposedly sponsored by the government. Growing resentment is happening in the VDB, and a breaking point is forcast. A particularily vicious attack was committed on December 25, Christmas Day for about half of Briereians. The Presidential Palace was down by a trio of suicide bombers, killing 1,000. Luckily, the Princes were out to watch the FC Phoenix-Real Tucson soccer game.
