Nueve Italia
07-08-2007, 05:03
As promised, here is the thread where you will post which fighters, zeppelins, and such your nation/milita/pirate group/character uses.
Do not make additional posts: Post once and then edit as necessary: this will save time and space. As of now, I'm just posting the names of these aircraft: stats and such will come later. Feel free to do the same.

The Atlantic Republic of Nueve Italia

Fighters:
Gervasio Air Works A2 Guerriero Mk. III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloster_Gladiator#Specifications_.28Gloster_Gladiator_Mk_I.29)
- Produced extensively, though now in declining use, the A2 Guerriero was the last true Bi-Plane to be used by Nueve Italia. Built with a, at the time, brand-new all-metal structure and with a closed cockpit, the A2 gave Nueve Italia a small advantage early on, but as new designs took precedent, the A2 began to lose its edge. It still has bite, and since so many were created they are frequently used as training planes, but in actual combat service, the Guerriero is losing favor. Militia and Pirates in the nation are still being reported as using it, and it is a well-built, servicable aircraft, but is invariably eclipsed by better options.
Gervasio Air Works A3 Difensore Mk.I (http://crimsonskiesuniverse.com/universe/planes/defender.htm)
- The A3 was Gervasio Air Works' first tirade into the all-metal monoplane with mediocre results. The Difensore is extremely light, can only hit 250 mph at level flight, cannot fulfill a Ground-Attack or Anti-Zeppelin role, and cannot carry any extra heavy ordanance. However, many pilots underestimate these short comings and deem the A3 to be an obsolete fighter. Atlantic Republic pilots have shown those now-deceased airmen why they were so very wrong. The A3 has an extremely tight turning radius, and its agility (due to its light-weight) is nearly unsurpassed in the skies, making a small Difensore a nightmare to get a bead on. While a pilot is trying to shoot down an A3, it is constantly running circles around its opposition until it can get into an attack position, where its pair of .50-cal. cannons and single .30-cal. machine gun shred enemy fighters apart. Those that underestimated this plane at the beginning of the Atlantic Republic's formation now learn to stay clear when a squad of these small warbirds are found in the sky. Nitalian militia frequently use the A3, and it is still in service with the regular military as an Air-Superiority fighter.
Gervasio Air Works A4 Furia Mk. II (http://crimsonskiesuniverse.com/universe/planes/fury.htm)
- Classified as a true Multi-Role aircraft, the Furia is the current mass-produced fighter of Nueve Italia. It's armament of light .30- and .40-Caliber machine guns and the large, .70-Caliber "Goliath" cannon allow it to both destroy enemy fighters with ease and also tangle with Zeppelins with relatively little problems. Certain versions are known to be stripped of the .70-Caliber Gun, increasing the speed and manueverability of the already-nimble plane, but this can be a short-sighted solution if heavy weapons are needed. Commonly seen flying with H1 Falco Heavy Fighters, the two planes compliment eachother well: a common tactic shows the A4s distracting and destroying enemy fighters whilst the H1s attack key heavy targets in the area.
Heavy Fighters:
Gervasio Air Works H1 Falco Mk. IV (http://crimsonskiesuniverse.com/universe/planes/warhawk.htm)
- The Falco is classified as a Heavy Fighter, and normally flies in support roles of the lighter, more agile A4s and A3s. Considered a main-stay aircraft of the Atlantic Republic, the H1 is used as a Zepp-Killer, pounding enemy Airships with its .60 cal heavy cannon, and it has been known to be fitted with rockets and other such weapons for the quicker destruction of Zeppelins. Not as great a dogfighter as the A2, the A3, and especially the A4, the H1 Falco is, nonetheless, a dangerous opponent: if it happens to get behind any enemy fighter, and can get a long enough lock, that plane is usually blown out of the sky rather quickly.
Franco Manufacturers S2C Corvino (http://crimsonskiesuniverse.com/universe/planes/vampire.htm)
- A new plane produced by the also new Franco Manufacturers, the S2C is more akin to an aerial bomber than a fighter. It's massive payload and sheer weight allow it both to receive and dish out serious damage, while its long-range capabilities allow it to be a Spearhead unit when lots of firepower is needed quickly. The mix of machine guns and cannon allow the Corvino to tear apart anything that crosses its gunsights, and it has been particularly succesful in becoming the Atlantic Republic's first reliable Ground-Strafer. Gun-trucks, Patrol Boats, anything is vulnerable to the Heavy Fighter. The down-side? It's propellers are extremely vulnerable, and the S2C isn't exactly the quickest thing in the sky. This Fighter-Bomber is more suited to long, straight, head-on attack runs than quick-and-nimble dogfighting, and so it relies on the A2s, A3s, and A4s to support it in most operations.
Light Bombers
Gervasio Air Works B3 Martello Mk. II (http://crimsonskiesuniverse.com/universe/planes/balmoral.htm)
- The Martello (Italian for "Hammer") is the only pure Ground-Attack plane in service with the Aviazione Repubblica. Slow, heavily armed and armored, the Martello had to meet exact design specifications, the biggest of them being that it can be stored within a Zeppelin. This was accomplished, but with such a short range and weighing so much, only a few B3s can be in any one Zeppelin. It was given the name "Hammer" because that's what its job is: to hammer a specific target over and over until it is either destroyed or submits. Flights of Martellos can be extremely damaging to ground forces, and the B3 can be equipped for Sea-Attack as well, making it perfect for strikes needed over the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Coastline. Sporting a pair of .60 cal and another pair of .70 cal machine guns as main weapons, the B3 also carries 2 .30 cal machine guns in a dual turret at the rear, and a forward turret is armed with a single .30 cal machine gun. Flying at a top speed of 150 mph, the Martello needs that extra protection to ensure it can get to its target. Up to 10 rocket hardpoints allow the B3 to carry an impressive payload for such a small aircraft, and it has served well so far in the attacking of airbases, ground defenses, and, one time, even a Zeppelin by dropping its payload on it from above.
Prototype Fighters:
Franco Manufacturers F7A Folgore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macchi_C.202)
- The F7A is still being tested thoroughly for service, and is not yet deemed ready to enter full military service. However, protoypes of the F7A have made their way into the hands of the Atlantic Republic's Ace fighter group: the 107th Fighter Wing, also known as the "Italian Stallions". At this time, at least 8 of these deadly dogfighters have been known to be seen in Nitalian Airspace.
Zeppelins/Airships
Legion-Class Airship (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a8/Uss_los_angeles_airship_over_Manhattan.jpg)
- The Legion-Class airships are the mainstay, destroyer-type airships of the Nitalian Air Force. 680 feet long, the Legions can hit maximum speeds of 70 mph with the use of their 6 propellers while still weighing 36 tons. Being extremely light (considering the way the Drago diCielo-Class and Garibaldi-Class are built and used), the Legion-Class can only store 2 fighters in its internal bay. Its armament is also somewhat lacking: only eight .30 cal machine guns cover the Zeppelin: four spread out on the top, and four more spread out on the bottom. To compliment this, a .70 cal "Goliath" cannon was added to the underside to give the Legion a fighting chance against other Zeppelins. The Legion is frequently seen used by Militia and Police Forces, and is a prime target for pirates who want their own Zep'.
Drago diCielo-Class Airship (http://www.spacewar.com/images/uss-macon-1935-navy-zeppelin-bg.jpg)
- The Drago diCielo (literally: Sky Dragon)- class Airships can be construed as the heavy escorts of the Nitalian Air Force. Powered by 8 large propellers (each with its own engine), the 700-foot long airship can hit speeds of 80 mph (max.), even when fully loaded at 200 tons. This weight also includes 10 fighters stored within the zeppelin that can be deployed and retrieved in mid-air by using a special skyhook-trapeze mechanism. In terms of weaponry, four .50 cal dual-turret machine guns protect the propellers (one gun for every two), while four .20 cal and .30 cal guns each dot the ship to provide covering fire for fighters in the area. On the underside of the Zeppelin, 2 spread out .70 cal "Goliath" cannons (the same attached on the underside of the A4, but smaller) provide means for ground attack and also another way to down enemy airships.
Garibaldi-Class Airship (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/59/Zrs-4.jpg)
- Where the Drago diCielo can be considered a powerhouse, the Garibaldi-Class is a monster: over 785 feet in length, carrying eight 560 hp gasoline-powered engines (internally mounted), able to hit 55 mph at cruising speeds (80 mph maximum), and carrying 20 aircraft internally, the Garibaldi is considered an Aerial Battleship. Its armaments include 9 dual-turret .50 cal machine guns dotted along the spine (1 at the bow directly on the spine of the ship, and the rest paired across from one another on opposite sides of the spine), 2 .30 cal turrets and 4. 20 cal turrets to protect the engines, an additional 4 more .20 cal turrets on the underside, and 3 .70 cal "Goliath" cannons on the underside to provide ground fire and anti-Zep' fire. The Garibaldi-Class Airship, though not as fast as some, is certaintly the largest and the most powerful of the Atlantic Republic's Air Fleet.
