ANN 1 - Breaking News!!

Scientists working for the government Ministry of Progress, carrying out tests on newly discovered plants in the Alfegos Rainforest, have found that one of the plants will kill cancerous cells!

The plant, which has been classified, contains a special substance that turns on a gene in cancerous cells only. This results in the cancer commiting suicide, and has been shown in tests on rats to completely eliminate all traces of Bowel, Lung and Prostate cancer.

The government plans to immediately put this drug into production.

However, the shortage of the plant in the rainforest means that, for the near future, the drug will be very expensive: about Æ 210 000 for every course.

The government plans to start creating the active chemical synthetically within the next 3 months.

This drug will bring hope to sufferers of cancers incurable by other methods.

We would like to congratulate Alfegos on their breakthrough. However, had they asked, many nations would gladly have provided such treatments to them.

What would be a lot more believable is if this plant had a very high pH rating. As it stands, one can simply take caesium chloride (one of the most basic chemicals on Earth; other high-pH substances could conceivably be used, I suppose), to eliminate the cancer cells' ability to ferment glucose. The only problem is getting it so that it (the caesium chloride) is actually able to enter the cancerous cells; unlike tablets or powders, which are not very water-soluble, one needs to 'merge' it with water by making the caesium atoms able to enter the cell wall (ie don't pack them together), but not so small that one accidentally destroys the atomic structure.

I seem to have ranted on a little. But anyway, expect this to be lauded by some and decried as a conspiracy by others. :p ]

We hear that the government is offering to sell the drug to foreign nations, for an undisclosed price.
