The occupation is over! [open, celebration thread]

The Far Echo Islands

“O from the tundra
to the forests,
to the oceans,
O beautiful, O BEAUTIFUL,
the Echo Islands,
I’ll stand with you,
and fight for her at war,
and celebrate her in peace!”

That song was sung so loudly tonight that the very streets shook with the energy from the audio vibrations. Especially in Neo Savannah were 4 million people took to the streets in a massive unauthorized parade. The full moon shone bright on the beaches and fireworks shot off in the background, and out in the ocean dolphins leaped over the waves.

The celebration was in honor of the withdraw of British Londinium troops from the major cities and military bases. People waved flags and patriotic banners and signs. In their view, despite having officially surrendered the people of the Far Echo Islands had won. The beloved Grand Arbiter had avoided the death sentence, British Londinium had said that dolphin rights and citizenship was cultural, and they were led now by Grant Norse, the former Arbiter and now Grand Arbiter.

The Far Echo Islands were free again!

Kensington, British Londinium

Consul Sir Alistair Davidson sat in his office, gazing out at Kensington Bay from the glass wall behind his desk. The warm, cerulean waves gently ebbed and flowed in a near-mechanical pattern - just the way Sir Alistair liked it. His peace, though, was interrupted by the knell of a door chime.

"Come in," he said pensively. The door swung open, and a slender young woman, the Consul's secretary, entered the room.

"Sir, I'm not sure if you, er, knew already, but the Far Echo Islanders seem to be having some sort of celebration," she said timidly.

"Yes, yes, I read the news report, Liz," the Consul replied brusquely. "This is what I get for being nice for a change. I said to myself, 'No, Alistair, let's not ravage their tiny little tropical paradise and enslave their people. That just isn't socially acceptable these days.' I spare their nation, Liz, and I get this embarrassing affair."

"Well, sir, does it really matter what they think?" she replied in an attempt to placate the Consul. "We still won. It was a smackdown domestically - approval ratings soared, or so the LBG says."

"True, true. That's why I hired you, Liz - your incessant optimism never fails to cast light on that silver lining," Sir Alistair said in a random outburst of genuine kindness.

"Very well, sir," the secretary said as she left the room smiling.

A man in his early 40s sits at a rich dark colored desk in a leather chair, reading the reports on his desk. He grins at the news that the crisis in Echo Islands was over. There was a knock at the door, but even without a window the man could tell who it was.

"Come in." He spoke without raising his head.

Another man at least in his 60s walked in with a lit cigarette between his fingers. His face bore marks of age and several scars. His hair was gray-black. He walked over and sat in the chair across from the man at the desk. He took a long drag on his smoke. "So," He declared. "I see that you saw the news of the Islands."

The man at the desk glared at the smoker. "Yeah," He scowled. "and no damn thanks to you did we get anything done. The least we could have done is try and send a relief force to give supplies."

The cigarette man just chuckled, than almost instantly coughed loudly. He cleared his throat and spoke, carefully choosing his words. "We still have...work to do, you know. We need our soldiers to keep the subjects under guard."

The man at the desk sighed and wrote his signature on a piece of paper that was probably an requsition for supplies. "Next time, we are sending some men to keep the peace, got it?"

The smoker took a long drag, and letting it loose he spoke while getting up. "Ok. You got a deal, comrade."

The man at the desk said. "Yeah, whatever..." He looked up grinning. "...Erik?" He guessed.

The smoker stopped suddenly. And laughed. "Swing and a miss."

"Damn"

As he opened the door and walked out, he spoke. "Goodbye, Mr. President." And closed the door.

OOC: This is a Celebration thread. Someone Celebrate for God's sake.

IC:

Kiravians celebrated the withdrawl of British Londinium from the Echo Islands. An impromptu street-fest was held in Kartika, and there were small celebrations in Valëka, Forestgreen, Pelagica, and other major cities. A flame was lit in the Tenthland Monument, a major honour. The Emperor ordered the construction of the Delphinics Iorca'a, or Testament of Dolphins to commemorate the recognition of delphine sentience, liberation of the CFEI, and sparing of the Grand Arbiter.

Still, as always, the Senate was active. In addition to discussing Dolphin Rights abroad and the events surrounding the CFEI, they now had to worry about the sudden influx of 20 million Indo-Aryans from Tartarystan, the Empire's slowing acquisition of vassal states, and whether or not to grant Vorcumbia independance.
